It is a goal of the North Carolina Project to create, tag, grade, rank, and improve all articles relating to North Carolina. The Class=, Importance=, NC=Yes, and NC-importance= parameters used within the Project United States Template on the Talk page.

Class and Importance for the North Carolina Project is entered in the WikiProject:United States template. Thee is only a single class in the template but there can be one or more importances. The following examples shows an article with different United States (importance=low) and North Carolina Project (NC-importance=High) importances:

The North Carolina importance standards are set by the WikiProjet North Carolina members. The North Carolina importance is set using the NC=Yes|NC-importance= parameters within the United States template on the Talk page:

The importance for United States and other projects using the Project United States template can be different, each applies to the respective projects.

Members of this WikiProject should follow the Wikipedia standard quality grading scheme using the Class parameter in the United States Template.

Article importance within the scope of the North Carolina Project

The criteria used for ranking article importance are not meant to be an absolute or canonical view of how significant the perspective of someone from that region. The importance helps the project users in identifying articles for improvement that support the scope of the North Carolina project.

Top Subject is a "core" or "key" topic for North Carolina, or is generally notable to people other than North Carolinians. Provides essential information about North Carolina. They define and determine the subject of the North Carolina WikiProject. State government and key historical events. North Carolina; Raleigh, Geography, Climate, Wildlife, Demographics, Government, History, and Governor, Constitution, Province, and Culture of North Carolina; North Carolina General Assembly, North Carolina Senate, and North Carolina House of Representatives; and Current Governor, and Current U.S. Senators.
High Subject is notable in a significant and important way within the field of North Carolina, but not necessarily outside it. Major state agencies, national parks in North Carolina, major universities in North Carolina, state landmarks, state parks, major geographical features, war hero, general officers, sports hero, major interstate highways in North Carolina, historical events, Counties, large cities[note 1] Charlotte, North Carolina, North Carolina Highway System, President James K. Polk, Sam Ervin, Richard Caswell, Billy Graham, Griffith Rutherford, Jethro Sumner, Michael Jordan, University of North Carolina, Duke University, Interstate 95 in North Carolina, Rowan Resolves, Secretary of State of North Carolina, Iredell County, North Carolina, Wright Brothers, Cape Hatteras, R. Mid Subject contributes to the total subject of the North Carolina WikiProject. Subject may not necessarily be famous. County representative and political officials, small cities, towns, township[note 2], major buildings in NC, major state level sport teams, North Carolina military units in the Revolution and Civil War. Low Subject is not particularly notable or significant even within the overall field of North Carolina, and may have been included primarily to achieve comprehensive coverage of another topic or a special interest area. Lists without referencing or significant commentary; secondary school, sports team, city parks, local musical or other cultural organization articles are in this class.
