Wendover Ave. taken over by US 70
[edit]Now that Wendover Avenue is US 70 in its entirety, this page and its contents should be merged into U.S. Route 70 in North Carolina. Greggens (talk) 04:32, 13 April 2024 (UTC)
- Support - Do not see the need of the Wendover article anymore. --WashuOtaku (talk) 06:07, 13 April 2024 (UTC)
- Clarification needed - The article does not say that, so I want to clarify whether or not this is actually the case. ChessEric 01:35, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
History
[edit]I went to the Greensboro library and saw some newspaper articles yesterday. I wish I had made notes about more of them. I saw maps showing a gap in the road so I have an idea of when the gap was completed. Then I saw articles saying the road would be extended. Those were dated 1969, but I didn't see anything happen.
When I first moved to the area in 1969, the road was completed from the east side of the city to where the extension started. I lived in the area again starting in 1987 and spent a lot of time traveling on the extension.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 18:43, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
Why Wendover Avenue should stay
[edit]While U.S. 70 has indeed took over Wendover (I even saw it on Interstate 40 when visiting family recently on the exit signs),
Wendover Avenue is still an important route in the Greensboro area.
It serves as not only a major boulevard, but also an expressway, which serves as a vital connector to the heart of the city, and for those exiting out the city.
It is just as important as other expressway and lower-grade freeways in the Triad (O'Henry Boulevard, Bryan Boulevard, Silas Creek Parkway, NC 68 between 40 to 73 near Colfax, and others). Beejayhelper (talk) 17:32, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
