Population density error?

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/107.0.0.0 Safari/537.36

Hello, I noticed that the population density conversion from square miles to square kilometers is actually inverse. The current conversion shows that 1 square kilometer equates to 0.386102 square miles, when the correct conversion would show 1 square mile is equal to 2.589 (repeating) square kilometers. This infographic shows that 469.5 square miles is equal to 181.3 square kilometers.

The correct data for this instance would be 181.3 square miles for the 2010 census; however, I will be updating this number to reflect the 2020 census which is 189.4 according to US Census Bureau "quick fact" section.

Currently setting the population density to 189.4 square miles shows that that number equates to 73.1 square kilometers which is incorrect. It should actually be 490.54375 square kilometers.

SpaceX achievements

I'm trying to add the line below to SpaceX's achievements list.

30 December 2022 SpaceX's Falcon 9 became the world-record holder for the "most launches of a single vehicle type in a single year." 60 Falcon 9 rocket flights

It is underneath, not inside, the list.

Will you fix it? And also tell me know how to do it?

Thank you! Cowgirl1985 (talk) 04:53, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

Don Iveson

Don Iveson (Edmonton Mayor) was not the initial winner for the 1st election listed. For a brief moment, it was a female, South-Indian origin, by the name of Sharon Varghese (also known as, #2). Don Iveson himself and his office at the time is aware of the consolidation that occurred prior to him being later announced as the winner. Media outlets and others were requested to remove sources. If we are to learn the various forms of mislead or oppression in hopes to change for better, it begins by taking accountability and telling the truth - not abusing controls within a system and rewriting history whenever convenient. 2001:56A:F473:6500:A5C0:A183:6ECD:701A (talk) 21:39, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

Bing Search Issue

URL: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Diabetes&action=edit

I turned off search engines using it as a sidebar because Bing does not use the correct form of this wiki. When looking up "diabetes", it uses false information stating "Diabetes, also known as diabetes mellitus, is a fake disease created by Hilda Vangugenhiem as a folklore tale to scare children. Hilda was known in her village as a dessert queen and wanted all the Ha…" under the Wikipedia sidebar. This is incorrect and must be addressed. I didn't know how to fix it - I tried reporting it to Bing but nothing has changed - so I hope my comment can flag someone who can fix it.

Editing news 2023 #1

Read this in another languageSubscription list for this newsletter

This newsletter includes two key updates about the Editing team's work:

  1. The Editing team will finish adding new features to the Talk pages project and deploy it.
  2. They are beginning a new project, Edit check.

Talk pages project

Screenshot showing the talk page design changes that are currently available as beta features at all Wikimedia wikis. These features include information about the number of people and comments within each discussion.
Some of the upcoming changes

The Editing team is nearly finished with this first phase of the Talk pages project. Nearly all new features are available now in the Beta Feature for Discussion tools.

It will show information about how active a discussion is, such as the date of the most recent comment. There will soon be a new "Add topic" button. You will be able to turn them off at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion. Please tell them what you think.

Daily edit completion rate by test group: DiscussionTools (test group) and MobileFrontend overlay (control group)

An A/B test for Discussion tools on the mobile site has finished. Editors were more successful with Discussion tools. The Editing team is enabling these features for all editors on the mobile site.

New Project: Edit Check

The Editing team is beginning a project to help new editors of Wikipedia. It will help people identify some problems before they click "Publish changes". The first tool will encourage people to add references when they add new content. Please watch that page for more information. You can join a conference call on 3 March 2023 to learn more.

Template:Short description is a local template that isn't used at any other wiki. Use Insert > Template to add it.
"Italic title" (DISPLAYTITLE) is available through the Advanced Settings item. Just add the wikitext around the page title shown in the dialog box. If you want to use Template:Italic title instead, then Insert > Template.
"Sort" is in the Categories item ("Options Sort this page by default as"). Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 23:37, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

Color

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/112.0.0.0 Safari/537.36

The visual editor (and the source editor, honestly) should have some method to control the color of the text, like literally any other program that resembles a word processor. Some mediawiki sites would really benefit from being able to color-code information.

2600:1700:6E30:30B0:3DCF:CC9B:BFAB:FF90 (talk) 05:26, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

Color coding information is not accessible to people with vision problems. This is the primary reason it is not in VE. If you use colors, you likely should wrap that in a dedicated template, where you can ensure that accessible color contrast is enforced for that one specific situation. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 11:26, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

I've now noticed the cite button is also gone when I edit on a desktop. Is this something being done sitewide? Thanks

I am trying to remove a series of blank lines from an article. Normally I would do this by double-clicking to select the current line, and then dragging up or down to select subsequent lines. This does not work in this editor, the single line is selected but dragging does not work.

Dialog boxes in this editor are terrible

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/16.5 Safari/605.1.15

URL: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Fusion_energy_gain_factor&action=edit

For some reason, the dialog boxes, like the one I am typing into now, have their buttons strewn across the window. In this particular. box, Submit is in the upper right, Cancel in the upper left, and whatever "File a technical task" is in the lower left.

All action buttons should be grouped together. Normally at the bottom. I am not clear why this convention, which has existed for 40 years now, is not being followed in this UI.

Maury Markowitz (talk) 13:27, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

When the text in this box is a few lines long the cursor is no longer in the right location

URL: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Fusion_energy_gain_factor&action=edit

I have a film of this, but it appears there is no way to upload it.

When typing into this box, eventually a limit is reached and suddenly the cursor jumps "forward" about a third of a line. It just did it now. So when I type THIS for instance, the cursor is about three words to the right and that distance increases as every line is added. Now I can't even see it because it is on the next line.

Safari 16.5, macOS 12.6.5.

@Jgwhutchinson Infobox cricket team does not support a "president" parameter. It appears the template doccumentation was subject to some disruptive editing a while back, with an editor adding a load of parameters that do not actually exist [1]. 163.1.15.238 (talk) 12:02, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

If you are editing wikipedia but you can't, or can't be bothered to find a source for what you are saying, there should be a way to show a "citation needed" thing more easily (I'm aware that this is a thing you can do because I've seen it on other pages, but I don't know how to do it on the visual editor so it'd be nice if this was one of the options in the citation tab, if this does exist already, make it more obvious, cause I couldn't easily find it)

Welololol (talk) 11:06, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

I understand that you might this this will just make people lazy and expect people to make citations for them, but people are still doing that anyways. Please help. I am trying to publish updates to this wikipedia article, and I am getting this message. What does it mean, and how can I fix it so I can publish the updates? Thank you.

Mary Bufe (talk) 14:44, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

This is probably too late to help with your issue, but I just experienced the same "No stashed content found for ..." error. It seems to happen when the Visual editor is left open for an extended period of time (multiple days/multiple sleep cycles in my case), and apparently means that the local cached Edit content is no longer available to Wikipedia even when it is visible in the browser.
Annoyingly, there doesn't seem to be a way to force Wikipedia to "reload" the edits from a local computer. The only way I fixed this issue was to open the page I was editing in a new browser tab, open the Visual Editor again, and copy and paste all my edits from the first Visual Editor window to the new one. This can be time-consuming, but I found that clicking the "Review your changes" button in the "Publish changes..." window in the first (broken) Visual Editor window helped me to find all the edits I made. VERY difficult to save sandbox drafts as I couldn't find the :Save Changes buttom. Also how do I change fonts? And finally, how do I adjust space between paragraphs, etc. I'm a writer by trade and found it missing many of the most important formatting tools...at least I couldn't find them.

Possible issue with Visual Editor

Using: Chrome: 112.0.5615.50, Windows 10 (64-bit), Vector legacy (2010)

I know that there are limitations with Visual Editor and templates but I've started to notice it acting weird on a few specifically. If you edit certain templates with Visual Editor, it will most of time, mess up the parameter spacing and hidden comments that may also be in the template. Below are the templates I've seen the most effected by VE; I would surmise there are a lot of other templates which can get messed up regarding the hidden comments and parameter spacing in them.

Template:Infobox settlement: Removes parameter spacing; messes up hidden comments (Example).

Template:Infobox U.S. county: Doesn't create a new line for each new parameter added (Example)

Template:US Census population: May mess up the parameter spacing (Example).

Template:Jct: How the template is viewed in VE mode means the parameter order get reversed (Example).

Other: If imputing bullet points manually, user can create multiple different bullet "charts" which don't merge into a single "chart" (Example).

To my best knowledge, these issues don't hurt the contents of the template if in "Read" mode (expect for the bullet point issue), but it does mess up the template layout which could be a problem for other users. I'm concerned that, due to the nature of the issue and amount of bytes it add/removes, Wikipedia might incorrectly ping newer users edits as vandalism and led to edit reverts or bans (which is unfair since many don't know). I've tried to minimize using VE with templates now but I've seen many others who use VE and unintentionally mess up the template(s). All in all, not an immediate concern, but it might be good to investigate the issue in the future. Thank you for your time; have a good day.
