Writing for pay

[edit]

See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure and conflict of interest policy. I believe you have failed to disclose payment in respect of the draft article you are working on. Guy (Help!) 22:58, 13 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. How/where do I do that? For the record, I am a working journalist and adjunct college professor who has been writing about technical subjects like this for 30+ years, and I was retained to use these skills in drafting some pages. But of course they are no good unless they are published, so I will take whatever advice and action is needed to achieve that goal.

Bobby, Thank you for your feedback, and I understand the need for reliable sources. This article's sources include the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Wired and other business press, and a published book, in addition to solar industry press. I'm not sure I understand why those are not "reliable."
I would like to edit this to make it acceptable. Should I shorten it and use only the MOST well known publications? Any other suggestions?
Thank you.

Having trouble with a source in the InfoBox

[edit]

I am having trouble with the source I've provided for the Infobox for the Canadian Solar article. I'm citing a source for the company's financial results. In the reference section, I get this message: Cite error: The named reference "Canadian Solar Full Year 2023 Earnings: In Line With Expectations" was defined multiple times with different content (see the help page).

When I go in to edit the info box, this reference disappears in the reference section. I have read the Help page on this topic, searched around for solutions and tried multiple ways to fix the problem, but have not had any luck. Can someone please provide me some direction? Thank you very, very much. Mary Bufe (talk) 23:13, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Mary Bufe, just to let you know for the future, if you have general questions, your talk page isn't watched by the general community. You can always {{ping}} someone to send them a notification (the full requirements are described in the documentation there) or use the @ when using the Reply discussion tools. You can also get generic help at the Wikipedia:Teahouse or by using the {{help me}} template when starting a new thread on your own talk page.
To answer the above question, I've also fixed the footnote now that it is in the mainspace as well. All the best, Bobby Cohn (talk) 15:58, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Courtesy notice: {{increase}} on Nextracker

[edit]

Hi @Mary Bufe, copngratulations on having the draft accepted.

I'm leaving a quick note here, just letting you know here because I presume the following could be a quick fix. I've removed the {{increase}} and similar templates from the infobox on Nextracker; their proper usage is described in Template:Infobox company § Examples, the arrows should be included with the previous year's fiscal numbers. This is the most respectful to our readers and doesn't just show something colourful, but also gives real information as well.

In addition, it's best to use consistent notation throughout, so I've changed the figures that used billions to something with four figures in the millions. This is also described on the infobox documentation. There's no change here required on your part, just letting you know.

As always, let me know if you have any questions. Kindly, Bobby Cohn (talk) 15:54, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for this information, Bobby. I have reviewed the template for Infoboxes and tried 10 different ways to get it to work. I appreciate your efforts here and will "copy and paste" them in the future. Happy Holidays. Mary Bufe (talk) 16:01, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I had a heck of a time trying to get the source information from the Infobox into the footnotes for the article. It would work when I viewed it, but then show an error when I published it. I will study how this with done and will try to replicate it in the future. Thanks again. Mary Bufe (talk) 16:04, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem. Don't worry about formatting them as templates can get tricky very fast. If you'd like to make a new section in the talk page at Talk:Nextracker and just list them out, I can format them and put them in. Bobby Cohn (talk) 17:05, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh my goodness.Thank you. I do plan to make further additions and updates to improve this article. But step one was to get the draft accepted. Mary Bufe (talk) 17:13, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent. Make sure to propose substantial changes using the {{edit coi}} request template, that queue is normally watched quite closely. Alternatively you can use the WP:ERW which is an easier point-and-click interface. Thanks, Bobby Cohn (talk) 20:56, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for this great advice. I will follow it! Mary Bufe (talk) 14:18, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
