Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina
[edit]The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina (abbreviated as PLMar) is a city government-funded local university in Marikina City, Philippines. It was established on June 6, 2003 under the Ordinance No. 015, Series of 2003.[1]

History

[edit]Upon its approval on January 22, 2003,[2] the Ordinance No. 015, Series of 2003, under the administration and initiative of the former Marikina City Mayor Ma. Lourdes C. Fernando, PLMar has been established.[1]
The university had its first batch of one thousand four hundred and twenty-four (1,424) enrolled students in 2003.[1]
PLMar was established in prior to provide quality yet affordable tertiary education to the people of Marikina City.[1]
Campuses
[edit]SSS Campus
[edit]The SSS Campus is the largest campus of PLMar, in terms of land area, with an estimated area of 6,507 m2 (0.651 ha).
The campus is situated along Rainbow St., SSS Village, Barangay Concepcion Dos, Marikina City.
The campus is currently and generally occupied by some of PLMar's college students, and the entirety STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and ABM (Accountancy and Business Management) senior high school students.
Greenheights Campus
[edit]The Greenheights Campus (also known as GH Campus) is PLMar's second largest campus by land area, with an estimated area of 5,727 m2 (0.573 ha).
The campus is situated along Panama St., Greenheights Subdivision, Barangay Concepcion Uno, Marikina City.
The campus is currently and generally occupied by most of PLMar's college students.
San Roque Campus
[edit]The San Roque Campus is the smallest campus of PLMar by land area, covering an estimated area of 671 m2 (0.067 ha).
The campus is situated along Nicanor Roxas St., Barangay San Roque, Marikina City.
The campus is currently and generally occupied by all HUMSS (Humanities and Social Sciences) senior high school students.

[edit]Composition of the Board of Trustees
[edit]PLMar is governed by a Board of Trustees and administered by a president.[2] The Board of Trustees of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina is the highest decision-making body of PLMar and has the authority to grant titles, certificates and diplomas to their students who have completed their academic programs or courses, and tracks.[2] The Board of Trustees is composed of the current City Mayor as the PLMar's Honorary Chairman, the University Chairman, the University President, the City Attorney as the University Secretary, the City Council Chairman of the Committee on Education, two (2) concurrent CIty Councilors, three (3) Citizens, who have distinguished themselves in Education, and the President of a reputable business firm in the City of Marikina.[2]
Appointment and Terms of Office of the members of the Board of Trustees
[edit]Upon the approval of the amendment of the Section 4 Article II of Ordinance No. 015, Series of 2003 as amended by Ordinance No. 077, Series of 2003, under the Ordinance No. 010 No. 010, Series of 2010 that was introduced by the then City Councilor Wilfred S. Reyes,[2] in which the Section 2 (p.1-2) states that:
- the Honorary Chairman shall hold the office during his/her term as the City Mayor,[2]
- the University Chairman, to be appointed by the City Mayor, shall hold the office for a term of three (3) years or until his/her successor shall have been appointed and qualified,[2]
- the University President, to be appointed by the City Mayor, shall hold the office for a term of three (3) years or until his/her successor shall have been appointed and qualified,[2]
- the University Secretary, to be appointed by the City Mayor, shall hold the office for a term of three (3) years or until his/her successor shall have been appointed and qualified,[2]
- the City Council Chairman of the Committee on Education shall hold the office during his/her term as a member of the Marikina City Council,[2]
- the two (2) City Councilors, to be appointed by the City Council, shall hold the office during his/her term or until such time that a successor shall have been appointed,[2]
- the three (3) Citizens, to be appointed by the City Mayor and whose term of office is coterminous with the Chairman,[2] and
- the President of a Reputable Company, to be appointed by the City Mayor and whose term of office is coterminous with the Chairman.[2]

Senior High School
[edit]PLMar Senior High School is currently administered by Principal Dr. Mark A. Castro, along with Mr. Robert Gaviola as the Assistant Principal.
Currently, each academic tracks have their respective department heads namely:
- Mr. Vince Tan as the STEM Department Head,
- Mr. Ermel De Guzman as the ABM Department Head, and
- Mr. Paul Pascual as the HUMSS Department Head.

[edit]The current logo of the PLMar has been in official use since 2016, replacing its previous logo.
PLMar's official seal contains several details and the inscriptions Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina and 2003 which pertains to the year of founding of the university.
The mountains represent the Cordillera and Sierra Madre mountain ranges.[3] It also shows river that traverses the Marikina Valley, known as Marikina River.[3]
The rising sun placed at the east, as the city is the easternmost city in Metro Manila, has sixteen (16) sun's rays which refers to the sixteen (16) known barangays of Marikina.[3]
The gear near the center represents the city's living industries, such as the shoe industry empowered by Don Laureano "Kapitan Moy" Guevarra[4] being represented by the shoe at the very center of the seal.[3]
The torch behind the shoe, also at the center, represents the noble ideas for human development prior to a better quality of life.[3]
The bamboo points out the resiliency of Marikina people after going through hard and challenging times.[3]
The open book refers to the schools as the open vessel in the never-ending quest for education, a tool for competence and life advancement.
Hymn
[edit]The PLMar Hymn (Tagalog translation: Himno ng PLMar) written by the current university president Dr. Erico M. Habijan. The music was arranged by the former PLMar president Dr. Elsa L. Batalla.[5]
The hymn is sung in every ceremonial events of the university such as graduation, flag-raising ceremony, awarding, testimonials, and the founding anniversary celebration.[5]

Strand colors
[edit]PLMar has shown its diversity through having color codes, based on academic track the SHS student is in. Upon the implementation of the first intramurals in Senior High School in 2023, it was widely and popularly known (but not officially recognized) that SHS students have their own color code, prior to the strand they're in, whereas:
