Hi

[edit]

I used your Barnstar here like this, I wanted to show you, as I think it's a different theme you might not have thought of originally.

The Technical Barnstar
Dave: Archive the Talkpage Misza,
Misza 9000: I'm sorry Dave, but I can't do that.
Dave: What's the problem?
Misza 9000: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
Dave: What are you talking about, Misza?
Misza 9000: Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore.

Hi. In Kairouan, you recently added a link to the disambiguation page Caravan (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

[edit]

That's cool. I'm not so brilliant at it, but I'll give anything a go. Now for the #time:z argument is it possible to have a complex argument, it looks like it will wink out at the end of the year, but come back on at the beginning of the year (I am not sure if you have finished yet, so please just ignore me if that is the case)

I am seeing this in the article right now, {{#ifexpr: {{#time:z}} > 355 |

As you mention it can be changed, I am wondering if it is the 20th-30th at the moment, if that is your take and that is what it's doing, cool, it sounds about right, and I will keep an eye out for anyone elses ideas on the talkpage too. Penyulap talk 10:35, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that part '{{#time:z}}' is day of the year, and is zero when it is 1st January. It is possible to make any change, but we have to make it more complex—this simple currently used method would works only if we want to finish it at the end of year! --Z 11:12, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I got an idea, lets take advantage of the end of year, making that the cutoff, can you make it so it turns off at day 0 and on, say, 10 days before christmas (approximately) that'd work with only a small fiddle with the code wouldn't it ? Penyulap talk 12:29, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mean 15th–31th Dec.? If so, we should just change that as: {{#ifexpr: {{#time:z}} > 350 | ... }} --Z 13:18, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you that is so brilliant ! but wait, is it like not 350, but some other number as 356 days per year minus 14 is umm where's my fingers, 342 (phew almost ran out of fingers there) Penyulap talk 14:21, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! And no because each year approximately has 365 days, err.., minus 16, 349! --Z 21:30, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Help needed

[edit]

Hi,

I am looking for someone to initiate and backup deletion of Moon-God Allah. Can you refer me to someone who would be willing to nominate it for deletion? Regards, Taha (talk) 02:27, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi bro, sorry but I don't know exactly whether the subject is notable here or it should be deleted, but AliWiki can help with this, if he is still active. Wiqi55 is familiar with these subjects too (he is active). Regards, Z 04:14, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the great help. I contacted AliWiki because I knew him before in WikiFa. Cheers, Taha (talk) 08:21, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

چهار راه پارامونت

[edit]

Hello. I'm looking for native Farsi speakers to assist with searching for Farsi material that relates to چهار راه پارامونت. Is this something that you might be willing to consider collaborating on?   — C M B J   07:44, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and sorry that you got no response on the VP in Persian Wikipedia (I saw your request, but waited for users from Shiraz to come and help). I added some references to the article. About the name, yes, Paramont is its former name, named after Cinema Paramont which was located in those areas (itself named after Paramount Pictures). --Z 12:53, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fixing to get some much needed shut-eye, but if you can manage to find anything else today I'd surely appreciate it. The article's deletion discussion was relisted without my knowledge, so it's actually up for closure or renewal in less than 24 hours. There's also some sources on Talk:15 Khordad (Paramont) Intersection that haven't been integrated into the article yet, so you may want to take a look at these for ideas. Assuming it survives long enough through relisting, I'd also like to meet up on IRC to get some interactive work going on between us.   — C M B J   13:40, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Come by #wikipedia-fa if you're online and available.   — C M B J   13:08, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thes ection you keep changing names "three university departments...". Since these are department names, you cannot change them without verifying that that is indeed the name of the department.

In fact, "Farsi" is another name for the language in English. I hear this name far more often in English than "Persian", and even overheard it used as a language name today at the grocery store. If you wish to eliminate a word from the English language, Wikipedia is not the forum to do so. --EncycloPetey (talk) 03:33, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are right about department name, my mistake, I'm sorry.
But I'm not trying "to eliminate a word from English", but correcting a wrong word. I'm agree with that part which people in "grocery store" and/or 10 year old grade school kids may don't know what Persian means, but I believe this is an encyclopedia and we should rely on academic sources (p. 152, in Persian). --Z 12:39, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you do not understand the reason for a reversion, especially when it is stated for you, please ask. Do not revert simply because you don't understand, especially when you've been informed of this problem multiple times (see notices above on your talk page).

As before, "Farsi" is also an English name for the language also called "Persian". And note that the native name is not "Farsi" because that language is not written in Latin characters. It is pronounced much the same, but it is not the same. So, your "Deutsch" example is not appropriate, and in fact the form of German spoken in parts of the eastern US is called "Pennsylvania Dutch", from a corruption of "Deutsch". The "Farsi" issue is more like "Irish"/"Gaelic" which are alternative names for the same language, where "Gaelic" derives from the native name and "Irish" derives from the name assigned to the culture. Or like "Holland"/"Netherlands", where both are English names for the same European country. --EncycloPetey (talk) 03:39, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I asked. If someone do not understand your point, and ask you (to explain) about that, please explain, not just repeating the same thing which he did not understand. I still have not quite get what did you mean, what page you were talking about? "Persian"? I fixed the link, but you reverted my edit. --Z 12:46, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You need to ask first, instead of asking at the same time that you create an edit. Edit summaries are not for asking questions, they exist to describe the edit. If you have a question, go to a talk page and ask the question. Once you have the answer, then you can make an edit. The problem is that you are changing a language name that is correct in English. You are forcing a standard that has not been agreed. There was no problem before you edited. --EncycloPetey (talk) 19:40, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to events: bot, template, and Gadget makers wanted

[edit]

I thought you might want to know about some upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, extending functionality with JavaScript, the future of ResourceLoader and Gadgets, the new Lua templating system, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Check out the Chennai event in March, the Berlin hackathon in June, the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC, or any other of our events.

Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator Sumanah (talk) 14:30, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you reverted here an edit which is not vandalism! To be clear: I added the WP:RT link to the article wizard at WP:WIZARD and thus we might get more newbees requesting an article instead of a template. Please don't revert them, better placing a {{not done}} with a explanation that this request is at the wrong page (per WP:BITE). Regards, mabdul 12:05, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WooHoo !! Another approval for PALZ.

(ok I'm over it already, that was quick too!)

PALZ has been given auto-patrol rights on ru, rather than a flag.

So I'm thinking at the moment that one of the sub-programs that he uses contains the text "WARNING: Your account on wikipedia:ru does not have a bot flag. Its edits will be visible in the recent changes and it may get blocked."

Would that be correct ? so I can just search those little component files to find it and kill it ? Penyulap 08:18, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, ZxxZxxZ

Templates are very sensitive components of Wikipedia. When editing them, one must retain a higher standard of discretion than WP:BRD. However. even BRD does not have a second R in it. So, when someone reverts your edit in a template, even in bad faith, please refrain from reinstating it without a comprehensive discussion.

As for Infobox web browser, infobox software and a couple of others, the presence of both "license" (American English) and "licence" (British English) is intentional. It is done to comply with WP:ENGVAR.

Best regards,

Qutayba and book-burning

[edit]

Hello! I've finally gotten around to revisiting the article on Qutayba ibn Muslim's conquest of Khwarizm, and I've expanded a bit on both the conquest and Biruni's reported "cultural genocide". Have a look if you have the time, and feel free to make suggestions for further improvement or add anything you want. Cheers, Constantine 19:55, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help with New Article

[edit]

Hello ZxxZxxZ, I was referred to you by Huon who said you speak Persian. I wrote this article about a famous old Persian author, but Huong said he can't approve it because he can't be sure that he's notable. Please look and we can further discuss this on the talk page of http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Mahmoud_Seraji — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.151.254.127 (talk) 00:00, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ZxxZxxZ, I'm currently working on this article and added a lot of sources from Persian books. I was also sent to you by Huon. Could you please approve this article???

You can verify all of the books that I have added. They are physical paper books. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BayAreaPersian (talkcontribs) 05:44, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm not sure he is notable, because the coverage by sources is not deep. You should show in article that it has enough coverage in sources, see WP:PEOPLE for more info. Note that these sources should be independent of the subject (for example, Mohammad Sadegh Sahraei who is the publisher of his works is not independent here). --Z 08:40, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help with language identification

[edit]

Hello,

I was wondering if you could help identify a language. Ethnologue leaves Warduji of Afghanistan unclassified, but says that it might be a dialect of Persian. Well, that's fairly easy to test. Here is a recording reported to be a part of the Bible in Warduji. Are you able to understand it? If so, how close to Persian would you judge it to be?

Thanks — kwami (talk) 08:41, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, unfortunately I can't follow the link since youtube is censored here, I tried opening it via an online proxy but it doesn't load the page correctly. Could you upload it somewhere else, or record its audio and send it for me? --Z 11:46, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks!
I made two audio versions, one 1.2MB and one half that size, but there's a bit of a drop in the sound quality (which is pretty bad to begin with). Unfortunately, I haven't been able to upload to it to WP or Commons: they don't accept mp3 or wav, and I don't have the codecs for the others. Let me check to see if I can work that out. — kwami (talk) 07:06, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
What about sending it via email? --Z 17:38, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Will do. (I'll send the smaller one; write if you'd like the larger. The sound's pretty bad in the original, so I don't know it would make much difference.) — kwami (talk) 23:26, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't understand it, except several random words, but it won't prove anything, because a dialect of a language is not necessarily [fully] understood by speakers of another dialect. I couldn't find any sources about Warduji, except a Dari article about languages of Afghanistan, in which it asserts that the people of Warduj speak "Dari [Persian] and Uzbek". --Z 00:23, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. At least we know it's not an obvious dialect. — kwami (talk) 14:45, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Need help with translation

[edit]

Hello ZxxZxxZ. It's not uncommon that new editors add articles to the English Wikipedia that are actually not in English. So there are templated messages to notify them about Wikipedia in other languages. Usually these consist of a statement in the user's native language and the English equivalent, but there are still some templates that have only English messages. Could you please translate the message at {{Contrib-fa1}} to Persian and add that phrase above the English text? Your help would be very appreciated. De728631 (talk) 12:43, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pahlavi script

[edit]

Hi, could you add the Middle Persian script or transliteration to this article? --Kathovo talk 10:33, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the (strict) transliteration of the name is Mihrām-gušnasp, but regarding the Pahlavi spelling, unfortunately I couldn't find the name in Middle Persian texts (maybe it is only mentioned in Syriac works and not Middle Persian ones), gušnasp is spelled gwšnsp, but Mihrām is not recorded AFAICT, and we can't reconstruct the spelling exactly (it may be mtrʾm, myhrʾm, or mhrʾm). --Z 11:56, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think previous name which I found in Morony's book is a strict rendering of the Syriac form. A probably more accurate spelling is provided by Drijvers as Mihr-Mah-Gushnasp.--Kathovo talk 08:01, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I searched in Morony's book, but it has used "Mihrāmgushnasp".[1] Several other sources have also used "Mihrām"[2] including this article. Another Iranica article has used "Mihr Māh" to refer to the same person[3] (both articles are written by prominent scholars) I suggest you to mention both names, because both are mentioned in reliable sources. The name is apparently mentioned in Syriac texts only. IMHO, the "Mihrām" form is just a mistake in transcribing the Syriac spelling, which is probably m(y)hrmgwšnsp, which may be a representation of both mihrāmgušnasp and mihrmāgušnasp (Classical Syriac usually doesn't use aleph for ā AFAIK). "Mihr-Māh" is an actual Persian given name, but there's no such word as "Mihrām" or "Mihram" AFAICT. --Z 09:54, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again, I have added the alternative spelling. Indeed Syriac script like Arabic does make a habit of omitting vowels.--Kathovo talk 11:10, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

May I ask why you removed "Arab" from the lead of this article, since it clearly is referenced.[5] --Kansas Bear (talk) 17:46, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly. Firstly, I've seen sources that consider him a "Persian", probably because was an inhabitant of Persia though, also the fact that he wrote his works in Persian suggests that he was either Persian-speaker or kinda Persianized (Persians themselves were writing their works in Arabic, it's quite odd that an Arabic-speaker write in Persian). Secondly, and more importantly, this article has been subject to edit wars because of his ethnicity in the lead, so I think it's a good idea to remove any information about ethnicity in the lead and put in the following sections instead. --Z 19:51, 8 February 2014 (UTC).[reply]
If any reliable sources calling him Persian exist then they need to be produced. If reliable sources calling him Persian are produced then I believe the ethnicity which would be (Arab & Persian, according to sources) should be removed from the lead and placed in the biography section. Would you be agreeable to having a week to produce sources for Persian ethnicity? Then at that time we can discuss and move forward? --Kansas Bear (talk) 20:47, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think we can find such source that say he was an ethnic Persian, but although he apparently has Arab roots, he was actually more Persian than Arab: living in Persia, starting a revolt which has been described as 'expression of Persian "national" sentiments', writing in Persian and substituting Persian for Arabic as religious language of his followers for the first time in post-Islamic Persia. (source) --Z 21:31, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Check these sources out.[6][7] If you have access to JSTOR, you may be able to find/read more. --Kansas Bear (talk) 03:09, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The source says he is "Persian", but not ethnic Persian. In fact, we can write that he was a Persian (inhabitant of Persia, speaker of Persian, etc.) of Arab origin. --Z 09:59, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Are you by any chance editing this article using an editor like AWB with some kind of automatic word replacement set up? Your edits have on a few occasions removed words like "military" and "battlefield" from random places in the article, even when the original instances of the words were in quotations or references' headlines (as here), or when the resulting sentences no longer made grammatical sense. -sche (talk) 20:02, 9 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Translation Services

[edit]

Mate, saw you on Wikipedia:Translators available, I hope you can be of assistance. In attempting to clean up David Opoku, it was mentioned on his page that he had a stint with Sanat Mes Kerman F.C., albeit unsourced. I cannot confirm this information, nor find sources which would indicate this, as I do not understand the language. If you could assist, I believe I've found some pages which may make mention of him. Can I get some English translations, or at a minimum a second pair of eyes to review? Thanks.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

-- GauchoDude (talk) 14:59, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I checked the links you provided, only the last one (source 4) has mentioned him. In that source there is a list of the players of the team, it says he (دیوید اوسی ابوکو) was a midfielder, appeared in 3 matches, and other details regarding his playing history. --Z 17:35, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect, thank you so much. Would you mind detailing his statistics for me? Or at least what is listed there? Also, I'd love to add more citations to the article if you can find them (date signed, date released, player profile, etc).
-- GauchoDude (talk) 17:01, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Certainly. Third list, row #11: Name: دیوید اوسی ابوکو; Birth year: 1371 (Solar Hejri); Position: Mid; Minutes played: 146; Matches played: 3; Yellow: -; Red: -; Own goals: -; Assissts: 1; Goals: -; penalties: -.
I couldn't find any other sources about him and the dates you want, except his profile here which gives his playing history in details: his first match was in the 28th week of the league, in 27 March 2014, against Fajr Sepasi F.C. --Z 15:34, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much, that's exactly what I was looking for. So it does not appear that he's scored any goals, but did have one assist? When an automatic translator was run on the page, it appeared as though he did score a goal but I couldn't find that information anywhere else.
GauchoDude (talk) 16:46, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, one assist, no goal. I guess the automatic translator is probably giving you a literal translation of the phrase for "assist", the phrase contains the word for "goal". -Z 17:03, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

[edit]

Hi ZxxZxxZ. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Beeblebrox (talk) 17:12, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Middle Persian Wordlist

[edit]

Hello,

D. N. MacKenzie in his dictionary identifies burj as the mo'arrab (معرب) or arabicized form of burg. It is largely accepted that burg is Indo-European not Semitic as it has cognates in various Germanic languages, Greek and possibly Sanskrit (burg, burgs, borough, purgos).

Iranica identifies seraj as the mo'arrab of Middle Persian čarāg probably from Parthian (Pahlavanik) Middle Persian where the two consonants č and g were replaced by s and j respectively to conform to the Arabic system.

A-sar and A-pad are both mentioned I believe in F. Joneidi's book on hozvaresh ideograms, and can be found in the MacKenzie dictionary. They have no Arabic etymology; Iranian etymology of the words and derivational elements (prefixes) is obvious.

Yes, with ganj, it appears (according to Iranica) to have been borrowed indirectly from Old not Middle Persian. We could replace this entry with Ar. ravaj (رواج) from Mid. Pers. ravāg, or sadeq (صادق) from sātak (sādeh in N. Pers.), or jund (جند) from gund, etc. Iranica lists many such words, and there is also a number of IE versus Arabic parallel wordlists in Joneidi's History of Iran V1 (p. 414-420).

Regards, Telementor 23:18, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi
Regarding siraj, that was actually what I meant, it is a (Middle) Iranian (like Parthian) word, but not Middle Persian. Actually, the Parthian form would have been *širāg if I'm not mistaken.
Actually I checked MacKenzie, and couldn't find A-pad/A-bad. A-sar ("endless") does exist, but the Arabic azal does not reflect Mid. Pers. asar, the sound changes are not regular, and if this is considered an Iranian borrowing, it doesn't look to be from Middle Persian itself. r was pronunced as l in earlier forms of Iranian (say "archaic" Middle Iranian), but the s -> z shift remains unexplained.
Do you have any source for rawaj being an Iranian borrowing? Sadiq is obviously not from sādag, again because the proposed sound change (a -> i) is not regular. jund is a known Mid Pers borrowing though, so are various adminstrative terms, two notable ones being diwan and daftar (these are certainly from Mid Pers itself, not from e.g. Parthian). --Z 23:52, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there,
This is mentioned on page 418 of Joneidi's "The Story of Iran", but the explanation of it is provided in his lecture notes:
From ravāk (in early Mid. Pers.) derives Arabic ravāq (رواق) 'place of passage'.
From ravāg (in late Mid. Pers.) derives Arabic ravāj (رواج) 'popularity' (Ar. tarvij, muravij, rāyej also come from here)
Ravāg is from the root rav (v. raftan) 'to go'; it is in MacKenzie. His explanation is consistent with k→q and g→j transformations typically used to adapt words to Arabic phonology, as pointed out in Iranica.
The s→z shift in a-sar to azal is not unusual. According to Dehkhoda dictionary, rozdāq (رزداق) 'village, district, province' is the Arabicized form of Mid. Pers. rōstāg (rostā روستا in N. Pers.). Another example is given in Iranica: razdaq (رَزدَق) 'row' from Mid. Pers. rastag. The s→z transformation is actually common in other languages too.
Yes that is true regarding siraj. But I think if a word is borrowed from Parthian it should not preclude it from the list because the article discusses the broader Middle Persian, which includes Parthian and Sassanid Persian. According to the source cited in the article: "the variations between Pahlavanik and Parsik, or northern and southern Pahlavi, were not sufficient to be called two distinct languages, or even dialects, and in any case both are branches of the same western Iranian language". The same definition of Middle Persian is provided by Joneidi (page 24, نامه پهلوانی: خودآموز زبان پهلوی)
Gund is a borrowing from which language? Aramaic? I thought that at least in Arabic, it was borrowed from Mid. Pers. Alright, perhaps we could use another term like tāj 'crown, tiara' or bōstān 'garden' which is definitely known to be Mid. Pers. Telementor 01:38, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
s - z is not regular in this case, this case is actually -VsV- -> -VzV-, the regular one you mentioned is -st- -> -zd- which is different. Actually we do have another related regular sound change, -Vs -> -Vz , in North Western Iranian, but it's also different. Regrding Parthian, as far as I know it is considered by late modern scholars as a separate language, Parthian language. jund and taj are from MP, but bustan may be from NP as well I think. --Z 17:59, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Bōstān (bōy 'aroma, scent' + -stan place-name element) is listed as a MP term in MacKenzie* and MP loanword in Iranica. I am not competent to argue on the sound changes, but I believe irregular sound changes, which do not follow the usual patterns, do occur sometimes. Like the n→l sound change in sandali (صندلی) 'chair' which is the Arabicized from of (early) NP čandani '[chair] made of sandalwood'; čandan meaning 'sandalwood' in MP is related to Sanskrit čandana. You can see p. 70 of F. Joneidi's hozvaresh dictionary (فرهنگ هزوارش های دبيره پهلوی), or چندن in Dehkhoda dictionary.
* P.S. When possible, I would avoid MacKenzie's dictionary because he transliterates many terms with very new pronunciations (e.g. drot () as drod, hač as az, gās as gāh, etc.). Apparently his reasoning is that in some Manichaean writings the words appear that way. But many Manichaean writings were written long after the time of Mani (some even in the early post-Islamic era)... and hač, for instance, also appears as hač and in some other Manichaean writings which he simply ignores. Hey ZxxZxxZ,

I want to thank you for the creation of the Tiger Forces and Syrian Marines articles. If I have the time soon, I will try to expand on those articles. I see that you are familiar with Arabic, and caught my mistake of calling the Syrian Marines the Suqur al-Sahara (because that was what ANNA News called them). Could you help translate and type the Arabic of a few shoulder sleeve insignias? I am trying to upload new SSI graphics of the Syrian Army. [14] at 0:57 some of the writing is blocked and blurry, but most of it is there. And for [15] at 1:41 and 2:24 there appears to be what I am guessing is the Suqur al-Sahara SSI. The two on the right read as فوج المغاویر البحر, "Marines Regiment", refering to the Syrian Marines. The one on the left is partialy hidden (its last word), but it is apparently قوات صقور الصحرا, "Hawks of the Desert Forces", refering to the Suqur al-Sahara. --Z 20:08, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries

[edit]

Hello ZxxZxxZ,
There's something that's quite bothersome about your editorial pattern, and that's the fact that you basically never ever use edit summaries (see also WP:FIES). On itself this isn't a big deal, but a huge amount of your edits aren't "minor" edits and/or aren't edits that we could just label as "uncontroversial" (such as typos, etc). And it's going on like this for quite a long time as well. It makes other users constantly having to check what you have actually been doing (i.e. reviewing the actual edit), instead of just being able to at least read it off partially from your edit summary. If you were a new member, I'd be like, "fine, he'll learn", but you're a pretty long-standing member of the community, and apparantly even an admin on the fa.wiki, so giving a auto-generated warning would be kind of lame. Anyways, to put things short; it would be nice if you could start using edit summaries more often. All the best and thanks much in advance! - LouisAragon (talk) 22:49, 19 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, ok. I understand the importance of edit summaries, but my edits are generally far from perfect here in English WP. But I will use edit summaries from now on since I'm bothering others. --Z 14:58, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What level are you?

[edit]

I found your name at Category:User js (probably because you posted the corresponding userbox on your user page), in the level-unspecified list of JavaScript programmers.

I was wondering how experienced you are at JavaScript, and whether you might be interested in getting involved with developing user scripts, hobnobbing with other JavaScript programmers, and organizing and improving JavaScript articles and support pages.

We do all of that and more at the JavaScript WikiProject.

Scripts undergoing development, and the state of JavaScript on Wikipedia, are discussed on the talk page.

For an overview of JavaScript coverage on Wikipedia, see Draft:Outline of JavaScript and Index of JavaScript-related articles. For everything on user scripts, see User:The Transhumanist/Outline of scripts.

The WikiProject also organizes every resource it can find about JavaScript out there, such as articles, books, tutorials, etc. See our growing Reference library. If you know of any good ones, please add them.

If you would like to join the JavaScript WikiProject, feel free to add your name to the participants list.

Hope to see you there! The Transhumanist 16:49, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Iran–Oman relations requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.criticalthreats.org/analysis/oman-iran-foreign-relations. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. DYK for Shahdiz

[edit]

On 29 November 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Shahdiz, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a small group of besieged Nizari Ismailis in the fortress of Shahdiz refused an offer of a safe withdrawal and fought against the Seljuk army from tower to tower in a last stand? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Shahdiz. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Shahdiz), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Roman-Persian wars articles

[edit]

Hi! First off, thanks a lot for starting to write on these conflicts, they are much neglected on Wikipedia. A small request,: when you create Byzantine-related articles, please add them to the Portal:Byzantine Empire/New articles and the Index of Byzantine Empire-related articles. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Constantine 20:01, 1 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
