Question from Rufinsky (09:54, 18 June 2024)
Hey, I wanted to add a portrait of someone named Hans Westenberg, recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award. But unfortunately I only found two of his portraits. The first image has complete information such as who the photographer is, but it is a little blurry and has a watermark, while the second image comes from Ramon Magdaysay's official website and the portrait is clearer, but it is clear that the background has been photoshopped, so there is only a portrait of Hans and the background is a room. So the question is; Can I remove the watermark from the first image (without make the image clearer from the blur), or secondly can I still upload the second image which is clearer but has a photoshopped background. --Rufinsky (talk) 09:54, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hiya @Rufinsky, I'm not the best with media copyright here as I don't really handle files, you might be better asking at the Teahouse. If in doubt, I wouldn't upload it but ask there, as copyright is one of the trickiest aspects of Wikipedia. Feel free to come back here if you need any other help with this matter or other issues :) Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 10:30, 18 June 2024 (UTC)

I edited/updated my son Ty Kelly's Wikipedia info and it got rejected. Why am I not able to update it? --SweetKell (talk) 22:39, 23 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from Rizky Translation (15:05, 25 June 2024)
Hello, Zippybonzo Nice to meet you
Honestly, I came here not for editing the articles, I want it, but I think I am not the suitable person to do that. My major reason is to translate some articles to and from Arabic, English, and Indonesian because I am loving to do that, and I need some projects so I can apply freelance jobs.
I am happy if you help me in relying that. Thank you! --Rizky Translation (talk) 15:05, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hiya, please see the policy on undisclosed paid editing. Offering a service such as Wikipedia editing in return for money or other valuable items is against the Terms of Use of WIkipedia and results in you being blocked, as such I discourage this. Growth News, July 2024
Community Configuration
The Growth team released Community Configuration at all Wikipedias. You can access it at Special:CommunityConfiguration
.
This new special page replaces Special:EditGrowthConfig
. For now, all Growth features can be configured using Community Configuration. Configuration for AutoModerator (T365046) and other features will be available in the future.
You can help with translations. The interface translation is done at Translatewiki.net. You can also help translate the documentation.
If you attend Wikimania 2024, please join us for the session about Community configuration's future!
Current work
Newcomer Homepage Community Updates module
We will add a new Community Configurable module to the Newcomer Homepage that will allow communities to highlight specific events, projects, campaigns, and initiatives. We have released a simple version available to beta wikis. We will conduct an A/B test at our pilot wikis using the new Metrics Platform. We still welcome community feedback on initial designs and plans, in any language at our project talk page.
Future work
Increase constructive activation on mobile
As part of the Growth team 2024/2025 Annual Plan, the Growth team will explore various ways to increase the percentage of newcomers who successfully start editing.
Editing a Wikipedia page requires too much context and patience. It means many trial and error for newcomers to contribute, meaning a steeper learning curve and potential discouraging reverts. To support a new generation of volunteers, we will increase the number and availability of smaller, structured, and more task-specific editing workflows (E.g. Edit Check and Structured Tasks). The Growth team will primarily focus on Structured Tasks, while working closely with the Editing team to ensure our work integrates well with Edit Check.
Stay informed
Growth team weekly updates are available on wiki (in English) if you want to know more about our day-to-day work. If you want to receive more general updates about technical activity happening across the Wikimedia movement (including Growth work), we encourage you to subscribe to Tech News.

Scripts++ Newsletter – Issue 25
Hey there, welcome to the 25th issue of the Wikipedia Scripts++ Newsletter, covering all our favorite new and updated user scripts since 1 March 2024. We've got a ton of wonderful editors taking back their pitchforks today. Don't worry, for they come in peace, to forcibly fix and extend existing scripts you use with sheer passion. There's so many, them forks have got what's basically their own column now! gift us with some rows before it's too late Aaron Liu (talk) 04:01, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
Got anything good? Tell us about your new, improved, old, or messed-up script here!
- inline-diff-inline-patrol by Ponor is this edition's featured script. By loading diffs inline on every page that shows a list of changes, it implements the 2023 community wish m:Community Wishlist Survey 2023/Admins and patrollers/Inline diffs and inline patrol. Hopefully we won't need this script anymore soon, with the WMF's focus on the backlog...
- Many of our favorite scripts such as Fred Gandt/userResourceManager, Guarapiranga/search-shortcuts and Bradv/Superlinks haven't been updated for Vector 2022. You could be the one to change that!
- Elominius/media timer works, but its UI looks alien. Someone could improve it...
- To a lesser extent, the same goes for PrimeHunter/Search sort. I wish someone would integrate the sorts into the sort menu instead of adding 11 portlet links.
- We want...
- ...watchlist notices support for Aaron Liu/Watchlyst Greybar Unsin
- ...a tool to automatically fix CAT:BROKENREFs, preferably a fork/addition to TheJJJunk/ARA
- ...a fix/fork of DannyS712/SectionRemover to make it work
- Automatically delink all duplicate links within the same section per MOS:LINKONCE.
- Collapsible parentheses in body text, which had a ridiculously long original request title and was accidentally moved to WP:US/L by me. Oops!
- An easily configurable script to add a link to the #p-vector-user-menu-overflow portlet with a name, target, and icon. This one should be a relatively easier one. I would do it myself, but I'm too busy rotting away on Celeste (video game).
- Preview an edit under the mobile viewport on desktop, with perhaps MediaWiki:Gadget-mobile-sidebar.js used for inspiration.
- ...and many more, all available at Wikipedia:User scripts/Requests. Jeeputer and Nardog have been the most active on the page in the past five months.
- After the RIIJ update, Aaron Liu: Watchlyst Greybar Unsin has a dismiss button that allows you to mark an item as read in one click and cycle to the next Watchlist item.
- Lordseriouspig/StatusChangerImproved is just like Enterprisey's script, except you select your status from a dropdown instead of cycling through them with a button. The WMF operates out of car-centric infrastructure anyway. Shame!
- Aaron Liu has created Duplinks from Evad37/duplinks-alt; his fork adds a config variable to automatically highlight duplicate links on the loading of any page where the portlet link would've appeared.
- BilledMammal/Move+ expands the powers of User:TheTVExpert/rmCloser to include common procedures done with the art of moving pages.
- On a holiday? Somewhere? Gotta learn ye ABCs? CanonNi/StatusSetter puts the fun into Enterprisey/StatusChanger with a quadruple more statuses. That starts with a C!
- In our continuing trend(s?), DaxServer/DiscussionCloser forks DannyS712/DiscussionCloser to make it work. Sadly, this is the end of our lexicographic combo.
- Andrybak:
- user-tabs-on-contribs is a fork of User:Enterprisey/user-tabs-on-contribs for Vector 2022.
- Archiver is a fork of User:Enterprisey/archiver with automatic calculation of the destination archive subpage and with support for non-Vector skins.
- Quite coincidentally, Elli/OneClickArchiver has been forked from User:Equazcion/OneClickArchiver to work with the mw:Heading HTML changes.
- FlightTime/OneClickArchiver forks the same thing but also no longer nonsensically prepends {{clear}} to page archives.
- Aaron Liu: MoveTop adds a different padlock topicon for each level of move-protection.
- Andrybak/Not around can help you mark talk pages of inactive users with {{not around}}.
- BrandonXLF/AddCopied automatically tags talk pages of pages you've copied between with {{copied}}.
- Bugghost/UserRoleIndicator adds text labels (which default to emoji) to user links that label the user's usergroups. Wow, that's a mouthful
- CanonNi/AlertAssistant adds a Twinkle-style dialog for alerting users about contentious topics.
- CFA/AttributeTranslation automatically tags articles translated from other places with appropriate attribution.
- In the defense of the 'pedia, the humble Jeeputer/defconIndicator adds the WP:WIKIDEFCON status to the toolbar.
- Tired of staring at a bunch of filtering text and waiting for darn filter logs to load? Msz2001/AbuseFilter analyzer can parse abuse filters into a visual syntax tree and evaluate locally on-demand!
- Polygnotus/DuplicateReferences finds references with the same link and displays the number of them along with a button to add the {{duplicated citations}} tag under the references section. Being lazy has never been easier!
- fastest gun on the net Ponor/really-quick-block really quick add to contribution lists three buttons awesome
- TheTechie/Help Me Tool is a quick and easy way of responding to {{help me}} requests.
- Per MOS:CONFORM, ZKang123/TitleCaseConverter converts all citation titles to... title case, unfortunately.

Question from Cal-batman (21:51, 30 August 2024)
Hi Zippybonzo. I've been asked to work on creating a Wikipedia page for my company. We don't have a page on Wikipedia currently, although drafts have been submitted previously. I think normally I would submit a page via the Articles for Creation feature and make the appropriate conflict of interest disclosure. But given there is an existing draft, should I modify the existing draft? If so, how would I disclose the conflict of interest? And if I use the Articles for Creation feature to create a "new" page, what would happen to the existing draft? Could it be removed? I'd appreciate your guidance as I want to make sure I do this properly. Thanks. --Cal-batman (talk) 21:51, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Cal-batman, please see WP:COI and WP:UPE. Editing for payment without properly disclosing your employer is prohibited under the terms of use. Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 09:29, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for responding. Yes, understood, I have no intention of not disclosing that I am an employee of the subject of the article. But I'm uncertain of whether to create the article via the Articles for Creation feature and make the disclosure there, or whether I can edit the existing draft I came across and make the disclosure there and/or my talk page. What would you recommend? Thanks. Cal-batman (talk) 00:25, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Cal-batman, first, disclose on your user page per WP:UPE, then use the existing draft. Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 08:58, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- Great, thanks for the guidance, it's much appreciated! Cal-batman (talk) 14:08, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from Ramzan77 (06:48, 1 September 2024)
Hello Zippybonzo, I made one edit on https://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D8%AE%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AF_%D8%B1%D8%A7%D8%B4%D8%AF_%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B2%D9%8A%D8%A7%D9%86%D9%8A
In this page, it is mentioned that Khalid Rashid Alzayani was the Honorary Chairman, so I added the Alzayani website link as a reference where it is actually mentioned he is a "Honorary Chairman". But my edit still not approved.
Please guide me on this.
Thanks --Ramzan77 (talk) 06:48, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from Christopher J Angel (15:45, 25 September 2024)
How do I create a new page. Reid Lake hiking trail, Michigan
The Reid Lake Area is a little over 3,000 acres in size.
The forest in the area is primarily hardwoods and creates a small, remote, lake environment. The lake is a small, 13-acres, with a variety of fish.
There are 13 miles of gently rolling trail leading you around Reid and Little Trout Lakes, the shoreline of Big Marsh, and offers views of Fannys Marsh and Mossy Bog. You can enjoy a day hike or backpacking with 9 designated first-come first-serve campsites available. Difficulty on the trails ranges from easy to more difficult.
The trails are open for back-country skiing in the winter, and are not groomed. --Christopher J Angel (talk) 15:45, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Heya @Christopher J Angel, everything you'll want to know is detailed in Help:Your first article, I'd advise you use the WP:AFC articles for creation process as it's a good way to get someone to look at your article to ensure it meets the guidelines.

Administrator Elections: Call for Candidates
Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates
The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/Call for candidates.
Here is the schedule:
- October 8–14 - Candidate sign-up (we are here)
- October 22–24 - Discussion phase
- October 25–31 - SecurePoll voting phase
Please note the following:
- The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
- Prospective candidates are advised to become familar with the community's expectations of adminstrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
- The process will have a one week call for candidates phase, a one week pause to set up SecurePoll, a three-day period of public discussion, followed by 7 days of no public discussion and a private vote using SecurePoll.
- The outcomes of this process are identical to making requests for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA or administrator elections.
- Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.
Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. A separate user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.
To avoid sending too many messages, this will be the last mass message sent about administrator elections. If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

Please be careful
Hi, Zippy. We spoke a bit on the NPP discord server earlier today. It's great that you're enthusiastic about cleaning up copyright issues. But I was looking at the CCI case you've been working, and I'm worried that you're only putting the articles through earwig and accepting the results at face value. For example, you cleared the article Varmahlíð. However, the article contains copyright violations from the cited web source. I'll clear them up tomorrow, if I can. I don't have the right to ask you to stay away from copyright cleanup, and nor do I want to, but please move slowly. I gave you the link to WP:NOTEARWIG earlier, but I really need to know now that you've read it. And if you'd like an easier CCI, let me know. There's one I'm working on that basically seems to involve rewriting like 500 disambiguation pages. Stuff like that might be easier for you to start with. I'm one of the newer CCI editors, so I've been in your shoes- this area can take quite a lot of getting used to! Don't feel the need to rush things, especially when you're just starting out. GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 07:56, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- @GreenLipstickLesbian - thanks for the message, could you direct me to the easier ones that would be a better starting point for me to learn the status quo's etc. I do intend to become a more active contributor in that area, but I'm not super confident with CCI atp so an easier starting point would be nice :) Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 08:30, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- Learning the status quo is much less important than learning how to do the job, and learning how to do the job properly.
- Right now, if you just wants a lot of experience, go to page 7 or 8 of Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Werldwayd, look for edits they made to disambiguation pages, and then rewrite the disambiguation pages to be policy compliant. Werldwayd created disambiguation pages by copy pasting the first sentence from a subject's article into the entry, but without following the CWW rules. You can solve this in two ways: by WP:RIA, or by treating them as any other copyright violation and removing the text. Due to the fact that disambiguation pages are meant to list the bare minimum about of information needed to identify a subject, go for the latter.
- I'd also advise not marking any diffs as clean for your first few months. It's what I did, and it worked well for me. In fact, I still don't mark articles as clean until I am intimately familiar with a given case. I just make a note, then ask for a second opinion or come back at the end of a case and re-evaluate. GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 19:43, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- Still reading through this but just noting that by status quo I meant the general procedure. Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 19:51, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- Utstein Abbey was also marked as okay, but contained copyvio from Store norske leksikon on a page that didn't have its free license. There is very very few CCIs that are doable through sending every page through a google search and I would not advise looking for them. I also presumptively deleted Hjelme when you marked it as fine, because the content did not even remotely resemble any of the citations. Same with Delaware Colony. We cannot actually verify if something is free of infringement when there is no mention of the added content in the sources provided or found, so content that blatantly fails verification is usually presumptively removed. I've overwritten your checks with my own actions due to these errors.
- I jumped straight into copyright as a brand new user practically, and I would've been much worse off if I didn't ask questions and go slow. Please go slow, and ask questions. The process is much more involved than shoving things into the copyvio detector. We want contributions, but rechecking is time consuming. If you're brand new to copyright cleanup, I highly recommend doing meta:CopyPatrol because it is a very streamlined form of cleanup that is mostly straightforward internet copypasting. However, not all of it is, so reviewing there gives you practice on nuance. There are also more eyes on CopyPatrol in general. Sennecaster (Chat) 14:05, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
Admin election advice
Hi Zippybonzo, while looking through the admin election candidates, I saw your name. Your work reverting vandalism, copy-edting, and patrolling new pages is truly appreciated, so I am inclined to support later this month. However, it is my understanding that you have never created a mainspace article besides reverting an undiscussed move and draftifying unready articles. Similarly, you have never edited a mainspace article at least 10 times and mostly focus on minor copyediting. While these are valued efforts, I agree with User:Ritchie333/Why admins should create content that all candidates should have first-hand experience with content creation. I am not a stickler to the idea that admins should have at least 10K edits, but without significant article writing, this issue may sink your candidacy.
You are probably a specialist in at least one area that could have new articles created or existing articles improved, but if you want topic ideas, consider WP:WikiProject Women in Red/Redlist index, which lists redlinks for women deserving of articles sorted by various characteristics. Given the time between now and the start of discussion/voting, I think you still have an opportunity to really strengthen your candidacy! ViridianPenguin 🐧 ( 💬 ) 18:13, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- @ViridianPenguin, thanks for the message, I'll take a look at the women in red list because I didn't know the index existed, and it's something that might help me find topics to write about. Thanks for the heads up :) Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 19:57, 11 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Autoimmune support club (11:18, 13 October 2024)
Can I create my own page? --Autoimmune support club (talk) 11:18, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Deuxde (18:20, 15 October 2024)
Hello Zippybonzo! I have a quick question regarding the infobox -- is there any guides showing how to correctly edit and/or create an infobox? That's all, thanks!
Deuxde --Deuxde (talk) 18:20, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Deuxde, Help:Infobox may have some useful information. The VisualEditor is also quite helpful for seeing how an infobox will turn out as you are editing it. Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 18:22, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

Hello! How do I create a draft to create an article about Rush E? BTW: Would that be a good Wiki article? --CoolDude2024 (talk) 15:32, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- Heya @CoolDude2024,
- I'm not 100% sure that it would classify as notable. While it is quite a popular internet meme, it's not supported by the most reliable sources. If you're interested in checking it's notable, I would advise you read up on Wikipedia:Notability and Wikipedia:Reliable sources.

Administrator Elections: Candidate instructions
Thank you for choosing to run in the October 2024 administrator elections. This bulletin contains some important information about the next stages of the election process.
As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:
- October 15–21: SecurePoll setup phase
- October 22–24: Discussion phase
- October 25–31: SecurePoll voting phase
- November 1–?: Scrutineering phase
We are currently in the SecurePoll setup phase. Your candidate subpage will remain closed to questions and discussion. However, this is an excellent opportunity for you to recruit nominators (if you want them) and have them place their nomination statements, and a good time for you to answer the standard three questions, if you have not done so already. We recommend you spend the SecurePoll setup phase from October 15–21 getting your candidate page polished and ready for the next phase.
The discussion phase will take place from October 22–24. Your candidate subpage will open to the public and they will be permitted to discuss you and ask you formal questions, in the same style as a request for adminship (RfA). Please make sure you are around on those dates to answer the formal questions in a timely manner.
On October 25, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. Anyone can see who has voted, but not who they voted for. You are permitted and encouraged to vote in the election, including voting for yourself. Please note that the vote tallies cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see your tally during the election. The suffrage requirements are different from those at RfA.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for an indeterminate amount of time, perhaps a week or two. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, you must have received at least 70% support, calculated as support ÷ (support + oppose). As this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("'crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation as a candidate, and best of luck.

Incorrect removal
Had changed back as you removed my edit where I corrected the hundred restaurant from the incorrect statement that they won a Michelin guide award to show the actual award won as I feel it is constructive to have the correct information on the page. Sharnadd (talk) 10:37, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Sharnadd ok, but in my opinion, you can't say that it's the same level as a Michelin guide award without any source to support that claim. Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 10:39, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yes that was just that article. You can link in articles about the award they won that show where it is considered to be prestigious. It's definitely not a michelin award Sharnadd (talk) 06:20, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Igbawse (20:10, 17 October 2024)
Thanks But can i creat an article about anybody? --Igbawse (talk) 20:10, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- Heya @Igbawse,
- You can create an article about anybody, though it will likely be deleted if they aren't notable. You also have to adhere to the biographies of living people policy, ensuring any claims are verified by reliable sources, and preferably inline citations. You can read about the notability policy here. Let me know if you have any more questions regarding this.
- Thanks, Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 10:03, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hey. I wanted to talk about my article about asspixel. You removed it because of it not being "important in an encyclopedia". You do realize that many servers in Minecraft such as Hypixel are also in Wikipedia? Asspixel is just one of them and there is no reason for any deletion. The term "Ass" means donkey since the donkey is the mascot of the server. I request you to take the speedy deletion down as we are also still working on this article. Thanks. I want a dad (talk) 16:11, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I'm guessing 'asspixel' was deleted for not being notable. I.E. You didn't give us reliable source that prove 'asspixel' (what the fuck) should be worth our time in Wikipedia. Babysharkboss2!! (I spread pro-Weezer propaganda) 16:14, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- @I want a dad, firstly, you should create a new topic with the button at the top of the page, however two things, "we" implies you're using a shared account which is prohibited by policy, and there is a notability guideline, which proves the subject is notable of a Wikipedia account. As babysharkboss just said as I was writing this, there's no reliable sources that show it's worth the time. If you still want to work on it, you might be better off using draftspace. Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 16:15, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- First of all, I am not using shared accounts. They are my team trying to enter since the original link won't work. Secondly, if this article isn't important for you, don't read it. The other 200 or new people might want to check out what asspixel even is,and I was one of them. I want a dad (talk) 16:17, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- "my team" implies meatpuppetry, which is also not permitted. I do check if there are sources about a subject before tagging under A7, and the only ones are minecraft server lists, or generally unreliable sources. Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 16:19, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

- its called asspixel ( stop acting like you don't say ass everyday kid)
- It's not covered because most sources are only in the official website. we can add more sources and links to the article but thats all we can do. I want a dad (talk) 16:56, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

Our Admin Election Test
Hello there. As we're preparing to move from one stage to the next, this is just a quick note from one member of the test group to another, wishing you well in the process of this new alternative to RfA. It seems that there are more of us in this group than some in the community anticipated, so i hope that doesn't make the experience any the worse for all of us. Whatever our individual results, i thank you, along with the rest, for stepping up and testing this process; happy days, ~ LindsayHello 07:12, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- @LindsayH thanks for the note, I primarily put myself forward to test the process, I'm not expecting a landslide support, I just wanted to see how it works, potentially write an essay afterwards, and so far, I think it's an improvement on RfA. Best of luck :) Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 07:31, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

I want a dad, your draft is entirely unreferenced and that violates Verifiability, a core content policy. It cannot possibly be accepted until it contains several references to reliable, independent sources that devote significant coverage to the topic. Administrator Elections: Discussion phase
The discussion phase of the October 2024 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:
- October 22–24 - Discussion phase
- October 25–31 - SecurePoll voting phase
- November 1–? - Scrutineering phase
During October 22–24, we will be in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages will open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/Discussion phase.
On October 25, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote tallies cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's tally during the election. The suffrage requirements are different from those at RFA.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for an indeterminate amount of time, perhaps a week or two. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose). As this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Growth News, October 2024
Current work
Newcomer Homepage Community Updates module
We will add a new module to the Newcomer Homepage that will allow communities to highlight specific events, projects, campaigns, and initiatives. We have released a simple version on beta wikis and we will soon start an A/B test on our pilot wikis. This module will only display on the Newcomer Homepage if communities decide to utilize it, so learn how to configure the Community Updates module, or share your thoughts on the project's talk page.
Constructive activation experimentation
After showcasing early design ideas at Wikimania, we conducted user testing of design prototypes. We now aim to engage communities in further discussions and plan to run a targeted experiment, presenting a structured task within the reading view to logged-in new account holders with zero edits.
This Community Configuration extension was developed to help communities customize wiki features to meet their unique needs. The Growth team is now helping other Wikimedia Foundation teams make their products configurable:
- The Moderation Tools team now provides Community Configuration for Automoderator. (T365046)
- Certain Babel extension settings will be configurable soon. (T328171)
Future work
As part of the Growth team annual plan, we will continue to investigate ways to increase constructive activation on mobile, while also working with Data Products to move forward A/B testing functionality via the Metrics Platform.
Community events
- Growth team members presented Community Configuration: Shaping On-Wiki Functionality Together at Wikimania (slides). The session recording is available to watch on YouTube. This session provided an update on the Community Configuration project and introduced details about the upcoming features that communities will soon be able to configure. Representatives from the Moderator Tools, Editing, Web, and Campaigns teams shared their plans for utilizing Community Configuration in the future. Following these presentations, the WMF Growth team's Benoît Evellin and Martin Urbanec answered audience questions.
- Habib Mhenni gave a presentation of how mentorship works at WikiIndaba 2024. The recording is available.

- @Armeniagrow2025, just click edit on a page! Is there something more specific you'd like help with about correcting information? Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 21:09, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
And how to create an article?
How to create an article to reference to existing article? Armeniagrow2025 (talk) 21:27, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Armeniagrow2025 what do you mean by that? Do you mean using another article as a source for an article? If so, because Wikipedia isn't a reliable source, it shouldn't really be used in articles as a source. Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 09:54, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Deuxde (12:47, 8 November 2024)
Hello! Recently, I reversed a case of vandalism in 'Modern liberalism in the United States' (here: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?diff=1256141499). What is meant to happen now? Do I have to report it to someone afterwards, and if so, where? --Deuxde (talk) 12:47, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Deuxde, you should warn them using {{uw-vandalism1}} :) Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 13:21, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry to bother again, but where do I use that? I don't know if I'm being unintentionally clueless here, but I'm confused a bit. Deuxde (talk) 13:28, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- On their talk page, in a new heading called == November 2024 == (see cleaning up vandalism for more info 🙃). Thanks :) - Zippybonzo | talk | contribs (they/them) 15:50, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
