MSU Interview
Dear WhisperToMe,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC) Young June Sah --Yjune.sah (talk) 22:08, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Redirects Allison Ambrose and others
I just discovered the Category: Survivors of aviation accidents or incidents and learned most of the persons there are actually redirects and I saw you created the redirects. Were these ever actual articles on people or were they redirects all along? The reason I'm asking is me and another aviation editor the redirects should be deleted. See this talk page.[1] If you have comments, please write there or here. I'll keep an eye out. WhisperToMe (talk) 18:10, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
- Ah, ok.
I think the consensus is that if the passengers were not mentioned in the article, then their redirects should be deleted. So if they aren't mentioned in the article, I will have no objections to their deletion WhisperToMe (talk) 17:53, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
- I brought your reply over here to keep this conversation running together. Actually I mentioned that on the end of my first post here.
- Here's the thing, Allison Ambrose, is a very brief mention in the 2001 near mid-air Japan incident. Does that make her notable enough for a redirect? I don't think so, but probably all the redirects need to be nominated for deletion so editors can debate whether any should be saved.
- BTW I am in favor of saving the category. Just get the redirects cleaned up, cleared out.- WhisperToMe (talk) 18:10, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
- I think it's fine to nominate them all together. Since Ambrose is mentioned, it could be debatable. Her friend Meggan Wesche actually was interviewed about it, so I think her case is stronger. WhisperToMe (talk) 18:10, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

- As I said, I still feel a mere mention in prose should be enough. Unless ofcourse as you said the local community has benefited by, say for eg. a public garden being made or maintained by the company in the area. As for a schools list, the it clutters up a neighbourhood article, I would think another article, List of schools and colleges in Andheri would be a better way of dealing with it (backed up with relevant references, like you mentioned). Cheers, Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 06:35, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- Andheri is divided into east and west (east and west sides of a railway line). According to this source (I know its not RS, but it gives a rough guide), as of 2001, Andheri East had a population of 800k aprox and Andheri West of 700k aprox, totally about 1.5m aprox, hence comparing with a municipality of 15k is miniscule. If you see my edit in April 2011, you will find a massive number of school names, Im not even sure thats a complete list. Cheers, Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 06:57, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- 800k is just one side, the total is about 1.5m! Andheri, like the rest of Mumbai is extremely dense (aprox 80k people per sq mile), one of the most populated cities in the world, though its not very large. Mumbai is an island city and is only about 233 sq miles (with a 20m+ population), of which 169 sq miles is under the municipality and the rest is forest/port/naval property. You can call Mumbai the financial nerve centre of India - it contributes about 40% of federal direct taxes. The major financial centres, where a bulk of Indias major companies are headquartered in the city, historically in Fort and Nariman Point in the city are where these companies had their headquarters. In recent years, these areas have comanded a very heavy premium due to high demand and shortage of space, hence Bandra Kurla Complex in the suburbs has come up with several companies moving their headquarters there. As BKC too has started becoming pricey, companies now increasingly opt for relatively cheaper locations like Andheri. Another point is, with South Mumbai being extremely expensive to live in, a bulk of the population now lives in the suburbs, which means they find it more convienient to work at BKC or Andheri. As for companies, more than 5k are listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange - again a majority of them are Mumbai based, imo. Hope this helps, Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 07:21, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Inline citations
You said:
- "(No, no, no. You need to use inline citations, always)"
Two things:
1. You don't have to use inline citations on Wikipedia. It's best practice and recommended, but there are plenty of articles that use References at the end with no inline. In fact for the first 3 or 4 years of Wikipedia, inline cites were almost non existent.
2. When you delete key information like the above, you effectively unreferenced the entire article without noting it anywhere, such as on the talk page, or putting the inlines in yourself. That is not good practice. I realize you are passionate about having inlines and believe the only response is to immediately delete it and move on - but think through the consequence and think about how you can inform future editors of this information so they can take steps to correct it. Don't assume the article is on someones watchlist. You just deleted it without taking any positive steps to correct it or note that information anywhere, and now the article is a unreferenced article that future editors will have no idea it once actually had information about the source used in writing it.

articles are afd
The documentaries of star wars are afd for now but an editor at the moment having a editor that is borderline WP:OWN. It would be great if this was announced to a group or wikiproject. I'm not so sure where to put it in ther than Wp:film.Lucia Black (talk) 03:59, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
- Simply disagreeing with you is not a sign of WP:OWN, nor is adding sources to an article on the basis of an AfD filed with questionable reasons. Your initial rationale ("appears to have no hope of improvement") may be your opinion, but that doesn't make it true. MikeWazowski (talk) 04:48, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi-I notice you redirected the Parchman, Mississippi article with the Mississippi State Peniteniary article. Both have separate GNIS ids. JAL ticketing office on Ishigaki Island
In July 2011, you added something about a ticketing office on Ishigaki Island. I removed it since it seems rather irrelevant. If we start listing every single place like an airline ticketing office, where does it end? I really don't see why this is noteworthy. However, since you added it, I felt I should notify you - maybe there is something special I don't know that justifies including this information? Thanks. --Piz d'Es-Cha (talk) 20:08, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

French Air and Space Museum
Hi, thanks for your message. The move is now done, together with many associated links. I agree that the English translation of the full title is as above, but I don't believe either full title is in common usage in France, UK, or elsewhere. I did have some stats about internet hits, misplaced them now, but I think it was at least two to one in favour of the summary French version.PeterWD (talk) 13:45, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Your HighBeam account is ready!
Good news! You now have access to 80 million articles in 6500 publications through HighBeam Research. Here's what you need to know:
- Your account activation code has been emailed to your Wikipedia email address.

- If you did not receive a code but were on the approved list, add your name to this section and we'll try again.
- The 1-year, free period begins when you enter the code.
- To activate your account: 1) Go to http://www.highbeam.com/prof1; 2) You’ll see the first page of a two-page registration. 3) Put in an email address and set up a password. Great American Wiknic for Houston in June
Howdy! My advice for you is, "If you build it, they will come!"
I would siggest just making a public park and date choice at Wikipedia:Meetup/Houston, and adding any preliminary details at Wikipedia:Wiknic#2012 Wiknic.
If Evansville, Indiana can do it then certainly Houston is metropolis enough :)--Pharos (talk) 00:20, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- Sometimes wikiproject discussion pages can be a bit of a dead zone, but you should really be bold and just put some preliminary info on Wikipedia:Meetup/Houston to get the ball rolling. When June comes around, this will all be getting plenty of sitenotice visibility.--Pharos (talk) 21:09, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
- At this point you should just unilaterally and boldly pick a time and place of your preference for the Houston Wiknic at Wikipedia:Meetup/Houston. The main thing we need is a definite location and date nailed down for this, when we will start advertising it nationally on sitenotice quite soon.--Pharos (talk) 16:33, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
- Alright, and feel free to hold the Houston Wiknic at a later or earlier date if that's better for you personally. Also, the main thing Wikipedians tend to lack is decisiveness, so even if you can't be there in person, setting a solid suggestion for time/place would be a great boon.--Pharos (talk) 17:45, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of GIH 141
A tag has been placed on GIH 141, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, file description page, file talk page, MediaWiki page, MediaWiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, user talk or special page from the main/article space.
If you can fix the redirect to point to a mainspace page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you are fixing the redirect. If you think the redirect should be retained as is for some reason, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the article's talk page directly to give your reasons. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. DASHBot (talk) 18:12, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

Removing Speedy at United Transit Flight 141
Hi WhisperToMe, you recently removed a deletion tag from United Transit Flight 141. Because Wikipedia policy does not allow the creator of the page to remove speedy deletion tags, an automated program has replaced the tag. Although the deletion proposal may be incorrect, removing the tag is not the correct way for you to contest the deletion, even if you are more experienced than the nominator. Instead, please use the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. Remember to be patient, there is no harm in waiting for another experienced user to review the deletion and judge what the right course of action is. As you are involved, and therefore potentially biased, you should refrain from doing this yourself. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 00:29, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with United Transit Flight 141. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Click here to contest this speedy deletion, which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. I notice you have not "officially" sign up at Wikipedia:Meetup/Houston yet! Also, I suggest that you adopt Hourick's suggestion of the small rise near the corner of McKinney @ Crawford streets, because a more specific meeting point is always good.--Pharos (talk) 16:05, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

- You can do it a week or so earlier than June 23 too, or 2 weeks after if that works (our NYC one is July 7). Houston GLAM thing
I found what the Houston GLAM situation was. It was a not-fun thing, though. The University of Houston Digital Library was adding content and had their account deleted. Interestingly, their username was misspelled. It was UHDigitlalLibrary. If you'd like to reach out to them via email and let them know of the resources available at GLAM US portal and the Libraries FAQ, you certainly can, though! Let me know what you think. (Also there will always be an open door for wiki at the Dallas Museum of Art, but that's of course not Houston.) LoriLee (talk) 01:19, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Video as a ref
Hi
In Air France Flight 8969 you have used a video as a ref, but you have omitted to put the times of the quotes. You need to add those to help people check and differentiate between the refs you have used it on; it is a little much to ask them to watch the whole video to check one ref after all.
WP:REF says:
"Film, TV, or video recordings"
Citations for films, TV episodes, or video recordings typically include:
- approximate time at which event or point of interest occurs, where appropriate"
Wikipedia:CITE#Audio and video sources says:
"Audio and video sources
Specify the time at which the event or other point of interest occurs. Be as precise as possible about the version of the source that you are citing; for example, movies are often released in different editions or "cuts". Due to variations between formats and playback equipment, precision may not be accurate in some cases"
It would be appropriate here as the ref is used so many times. (48 I believe)
You can use the Template:Cite video (which has a time= parameter), or use Template:rp, or other such templates. Chaosdruid (talk) 05:51, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
- No problem. I cannot understand what you mean by "personal copy" though, rather than commercial copy? If you are saying that you recorded it on VHS/DVD-RW/Hard-disk recorder, and it is chopped up, there are other ways to get the timings. For example, there is a full copy of it here :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 02:17, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
Non-free rationale for File:YugiMutou.PNG
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:YugiMutou.PNG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Being harsh.
I'm really sorry for using such a "harsh" word, but honestly, the way he edits stuff is just insane/wrong/lame. Someone had to stop him, really. I'm sure he's a good guy but not for editing Wikipedia like that. What's the difference between a vandal and a "professional Wikipedia editor" who tend to add false information... frequently? What the hell is wrong with him?!? And I'm not even talking about the "developers" and other "small" things. He writes about stuff he doesn't know about. etc, etc, ETC. WhisperToMe, you have no idea about the things (added by him) I corrected for the last 2 years. You have no idea. I say: ENOUGH! (...) Which one is the worst? A vandal or a editor like that? --Hydao (talk) 19:58, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- Well, you don't want to see those edits because many are extremely lame... (hilarious though). I think he was blocked few times from editing Wikipedia, and I remember the last time I was on his side (silly me....). Anyway, case closed (I hope!). o/ --Hydao (talk) 00:46, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Harmony Public Schools
Hi, thanks for message. Your sandboxed version looks excellent, could I just make two comments?
- Is there any way of making the "Miracle School" external link into a ref?
- I don't get any sense of why the Turkish involvement is controversial — language problems? Less qualified/trained? Muslim (although that seems unlikely given the secularism of the country)?
Please go ahead and move to article space and restore the history (unless you think it's better that I restore the history because I'm not an editor??) Do you think the article needs protecting, or is that getting the retaliation in first? Good luck Jimfbleak - talk to me? 05:43, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Re: Photo requests of Shanghai
Hi WhisperToMe: Thanks for contact me. : ) But unfortunately I'm afraid that I'm not able to take photos in Shanghai city as I was living on campus in suburb Shanghai and I don't know much about photography. I suggest that some local Chinese uploaders on Category:Buildings_in_Shanghai may help as some of them are still active on Chinese Wikipedia.

It might be a little bit difficult for me to get there as I lived to the south suburb of Shanghai and as my next semester will begin soon I'm afraid that I got a tight schedule to travel there. -- Ericmetro (talk) 09:23, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Sorry to say I didn't take a photo of that particular building. I didn't know that was turned into a club. Most interesting.

- Oh yes, I was bummed when I realized I wasn't able to get a proper photo before its modifications. I will see what I can do as far as that building goes. It is going to be a bit of a struggle to get a good angle on it, but I will see what I can do. --Hourick (talk) 17:32, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Udojin-e.PNG)
Thanks for uploading File:Udojin-e.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. As a heads up, you do know that The Pig Stand, 2412 Washington Ave (6th Ward) is now a series of bars, right? - Well, I went by during the day while taking the other shots and I couldn't find an angle that I was satisfied with. I'll try to take an overhead shot, I think that should work better then a street level shot. --Hourick (talk) 19:15, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Wawa
No, I do not have a source that explicitly says, "Wawa is not a Lenape word", any more than I have a source that says "Bismarck, North Dakota is not named for a Frenchman". At some point, perhaps in the 1990s, Wawa, Inc., seems to have shifted from saying that Wawa is a word for "goose" in an "American Indian" language to explicitly claiming that it is Lenape. In light of the misinformation put out by Wawa, Inc., I depend to some extent on editors being savvy enough to look at the discussion on the talk page rather than uncritically regurgitating "reliable sources". University of Houston–Downtown
"UHD is the last public university in the state of Texas which has no admission criteria for prospective students."
- Fact: The University of Houston–Downtown and the University of Texas at Brownsville have open admissions, as of 2012. New admission standards for both UHD and UTB will go into effect for the fall 2013 admission. As such, anyone who apply for fall 2013 admission right now, would have to meet the new standards at both universities. Monica Rhor was wrong in her article. UT System was the first to approve admission standards for UTB, and then UH System followed for UHD. However, admission standards for both universities will not go into effect until fall 2013 admissions. As such UHD and UTB are still open admission universities. Click here for current and new admission standards for fall 2013 admissions. As you can see, the current admission standard is open admission at UTB. Not everything you read in the newspaper contain correct information.
"UHD has a six year graduation rate of 15%."
- Fact: UHD's six year graduation rate is 18.1%.[4] Go there and select UHD in the drop down menu. Monica Rhor was wrong in her assertion. She was probably guessing and/or didn't do her due dilegence in reporting.
"The University of Houston System Board of Regents is considering establishing admissions requirements" for UHD.
- Fact: It had been approved, and will go into effect for everyone seeking fall 2013 admissions.
"In 2011, of the incoming students, excluding transfers, 62% required remedial courses."
- Comment: How did Monica Rhor account for this? I don't think she had the exact numbers, and was most likely guessing/rounding. I don't see this kind of assertion in any other university's article on Wikipedia. I have not been able to find the data for this. I don't think this should be in the article; Monica Rhor's claims have been incorrect, or outdated, so far. Not everything you read in the newspaper is correct.

I am following up on my series regarding Dental Management Service Organizations.
Are you taking money from the Moriarty-Leyendecker Law Firm? French language in Morocco
Hello,
Of course French is largely used in Morocco and is de facto a kind of "second official language" (since the real second one, Berber, is not (yet) as widely used as French) but that doesn't fit the definition of "national language". By the way, maybe a RfC can be made for this?
And thank you very much for your contributions on the article Languages of Morocco. I will, however, put all French, Spanish and English in a first level sections since Spanish isn't totally a foreign language (it has been spoken as a native language by Moriscos until the 19th century and is still spoken by some hundreds in its Haketia variant) and we'll not let English as the sole foreign language!

Mayday/Air Crash Investigation as a source
It was discussed here.[5] Mayday's producers have in at least one show made up things out of whole cloth namely the show on PSA Flight 182 stating the crew of the 727 that crashed had violated sterile cockpit rules. The NTSB report says nothing on that subject. I've watched many of the episodes, and there were other factual mistakes. So what I said earlier still applies- Mayday isn't a WP:RS....William 16:50, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

That's fine with me. I actually changed it to a first person perspective because early on people were saying the caption was backwards and would alter it. I finally made it clear that, "no, as the photographer that's what happened". --Bobak (talk) 22:49, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Corrections
If you're going to list the corrections facilities for downtown Detroit, you should probably list the city facilities, as well. This is not to mention that things are currently in transition. The new city jail is being moved, and Wayne County is constructing a new jail to replace the old Wayne County Jail, I believe. --Criticalthinker (talk) 03:28, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

Articles in Bengali Wikipedia
Thank you for the message. Yes I do translate for Bengali Wikipedia. I have translated many articles for Bengali Wiki since I joined as a contributor. Some of the recent works include Xi Jinping, Mohamed Mursi, Elevator Pitch, Hu Jintao, Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, Salar Kamangar, Comilla City Corporation, 2012 Mali Coup and Special Warfare Diving and Salvage. Translating articles of my interest and research from English Wiki to Bengali Wiki is certainly one of the things I like to do as a Wikipedian.
Also thank you for the suggestions. I am going to go through the articles and I am hopeful that I will find them interesting to translate to Bengali Wiki. I will let you know about a time frame shortly. --M. Tawsif Salam 04:08, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
Wikipedia requested photographs in Occitania
So this I have to hear the explanation for this. I have over the years corrected many of your photo requests and have taken this on good faith that you just have not checked what locations are available already as categories. But why did you for Groupe Latécoère, an aircraft company in Toulouse, create a request and the category for the location Occitania a 1200 historical region? --Traveler100 (talk) 12:45, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Creating duplicate categories
I understand why you wanted to create Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Detroit, Michigan but could you have not requested a move of Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Detroit instead of creating a new category. Also now that there are now two are you intending to move the requests from the older one? --Traveler100 (talk) 13:29, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
What is with the sign you requested a photograph of? And in other articles. There is no mention in the articles of noteworthy signs. (Please reply here)--Traveler100 (talk) 13:41, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
- From the Google Map preview it reads "Welcome to Ferndale" - with U.S. suburban cities and smaller cities typically one photographs entrance signs or monuments to use in the "skyline" field instead of a skyline. It is equivalent to File:BellaireSigna.JPG - Because it is a sign that identifies Ferndale, it is automatically noteworthy. Consider the introductory image to Bay City, Texas. Even if the editors decide that, say, such a sign is not the best image to use at the top of the article, it would still be of value to the Commons. WhisperToMe (talk) 13:47, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
Please note that the Wikipedia requested photographs in categories are to organise requests for images to make it easier for people to address these requests. It is not a classification structure as you would use a category for in an article. Creating a category with only one or two requests in it when the parent category only has a couple of hundred requests does not help anyone. The location categories have map requests to google map and bing map. Splitting into categories with only a few requests in each just means more clinking though structures for people. If there are over a thousand requests, or a county/city has more than say 50 requests, then splitting into more categories make sense but not for such relatively small numbers. --Traveler100 (talk) 05:35, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I understand that it's not a mere classification structure. However a lot of the reasons why these categories are underpopulated is because the vast majority of users are not aware that they can do it, not because the category can't naturally support it. In theory a Catalonia category can be full of photo requests; it is a major, influential region of Spain encompassing many areas. If one challenges me "make a list of photo requests for X" I can probably do it
- So while I understand you don't want "empty" categories think hard about the scope of the category. If it was a category just for "Nowheresville, Kansas" I can understand why one would feel a concern for an empty category - But "Catalonia" should provide ample support for multiple photo requests.
WhisperToMe (talk) 05:39, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- If there were 100s of request then totally agree. I am constantly creating and delete these categories based on the number of requests. US counties is a good example. I have over the last year addressed lots of requests for photos in Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Georgia (U.S. state) to the point where the 150 counties makes little sense. I plan to remove the ones with less than 10 requests in them. California, has a large number of requests so makes sense to have the counties. Nevada has over a thousand requests so I have created a sub-category for people which I plan to move requests into and will create a category for roads as there is a WIkiProject for this grouping. --Traveler100 (talk) 05:50, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- In terms of major cities or metropolitan areas hundreds are possible. You brought up counties, and so in cases of rural counties I can see why they are underpopulated and you want them deleted. Most Wikipedian "user" categories only extend up to major metro areas. One trick for metro areas may be to combine into one category for photo requests, i.e. I have put many requests for metro Detroit under "Detroit, Michigan" and have redirects from each county into a metro area category WhisperToMe (talk) 11:46, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Ways to improve Bethel Christian School (Ruston, Louisiana)
Hi, I'm DanielRigal. WhisperToMe, thanks for creating Bethel Christian School (Ruston, Louisiana)!
I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Hi. I am afraid that elementary schools are not normally considered notable unless there is a special reason (unlike high schools). Is there anything special about Bethel that you can reference which demonstrates notability?
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.
Waffle House, Norcross, Georgia, et cetera
I've seen your "page notice" about the location of the Waffle House chain.
You clearly want the rest of us to avoid saying that the headquarters is in Norcross – because that piece of real estate is situated outside the city limits of Norcross.
What useful purpose do you hope or purport to serve by making that distinction?
That appears to be a distinction without a practical or realistic difference.
As you know, I suppose, that place is on Financial Drive, just off the Jimmy Carter Boulevard.
If anyone around Atlanta – or if anyone else even slightly familiar with that area – answers the question "Where is that?" or "Where are we?" by saying "Norcross" – rather than Duluth, Lilburn, or Doraville.
Do you know a better answer?
Do you prefer to answer by saying "in an unincorporated area outside the city limits of Norcross but with a postal address in Norcross"?
I grew up in Nashville, Tennessee.
However, I did so several blocks outside the city limits.
All my life – almost 73 years of it – have I given a wrong answer by saying that I grew up in Nashville?
Should I have said instead "in an unincorporated area several blocks outside the city limits of Nashville but with a postal address in Nashville"?
That would be absurd in informal conversation, and it's likewise absurd in a formal article in the Wikipedia or elsewhere.
If we follow your rule about the city limits, is it necessary for the community of users to begin reviewing every article here to identify and correct any wrong reference to any location in the USA -- so that we can substitute the words "in an unincorporated area outside ..."?
What shall we do about those designations – such as Buford, Wyoming, or Bugscuffle, Tennessee – which are not even near any incorporated municipality?
If I'm wrong about this, please show me – please educate me – please straighten me out – but please show me recognized sources.
Second item: By what authority do you presume to issue a peremptory or dictatorial order to the world – or at least to the Wikipedia world – by saying "Do NOT change ..."?
New subject: How did you learn about the Middle Kingdom and its language?
In 1968-69, while serving as a Naval officer, I attended an intense one-year course in Mandarin at the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, California.
Oh, dear ... oh, rats ... oh, my ....
I just made a mistake.
The campus of the DLI is on the Presidio of Monterey, a federal reservation astride the boundary between the cities of Monterey and Pacific Grove.
Ever since, when asked where I learned Chinese, I've consistently answered "Monterey, California".
All those years I've been wrong, I guess.
All the other students, along with all the residents of that area, also have said "Monterey, California".
What do you think that we should say instead?
Here's some food for thought: Is it possible that maybe the location of the city limits in question may not be the determining factor on which such questions turn?
Hmmm ....
Cordially and sincerely,
Doc.

Hi,
- I uploaded File:Alstom_HQ_(Levallois).jpg onto en wikipedia and fr wikipedia (very recent bulding). Please check the fair use templates.
- The HQ of Carrefour is not 26 quai Michelet Levallois, but 33, avenue Emile Zola Boulogne Billancourt (92 100). I updated my talk page with that.
- In the 15th arrondissement, 246 rue Lecourbe, supposed to be former BEA HQ doesnt exist. #244 is an appartment block building.

- About the 17 rue Godefroy, there is already File:Plaque Chou En-Laï, 17 rue Godefroy, Paris 13.jpg on Commons. But it was Chou en Lai, not Den Xiao Ping. I have an image of the building at the number 17 (recent and very ordinary building, not an hotel) and an image of the 15 rue Godefroy (hotel Neptune, ordinary building). I will upload them only if you ask me for it, because these buildings are very ordinary. If Den Xiao Ping lived in an hotel at the 17 rue Godefroy, this hotel has been destroyed. And there is no interest to upload image of the new building. Or perhaps, it was at the number 15 in the hotel Neptune ? --Tangopaso (talk) 20:00, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- I uploaded File:Rue_Godefroy,_15.jpg. This is really an hotel. Den Xiao Ping cannot have lived in the building of the number 17. It is obviously a recent building, built in the 1970's according to my opinion. Renumbering steet numbers is unusual in France. The hotel Neptune at the 15 seems to be an old one (look the photo). I doubt that there were two hotels side by side at the #17 and #15. I think that Den Xiao Ping live rather at the #15. I have a photo of this #15, but it is a so ugly and ordinary building that I should prefer not to upload it. --Tangopaso (talk) 19:41, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
One more : File:Rue_Armand_Carrel,_28_(Montreuil).jpg for the Ubisoft head offices. Regards, I hope see you back soon. --Tangopaso (talk) 19:01, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Two more : File:Quai_Marcel_Boyer,_26.jpg for E. Leclerc head offices and File:Quai_Marcel_Boyer,_16.jpg for Fnac head offices. Recent buildings uploaded in fair use to fr and en wikipedia. Please check fair use templates. Regards. --Tangopaso (talk) 20:09, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Image of en:Charlie Hebdo head office uploaded. There was still a bus with policemen near it. I spoke with one of them. No problem. __Tangopaso (talk) 19:44, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
Two more : I uploaded onto Commons (old buildings) File:Rue_de_Prony,_101.jpg and File:Rue_Guénégaud,_2bis.jpg.
- I let you add these images on the pages of the articles. There is actually a shop of Cabo Verde on the photo of 101 rue de Prony. But I did not see anything at the 2bis rue Guénégaud but lawyers offices. The street is narrow. It was impossible to take a photo of the whole building. --Tangopaso (talk) 23:04, 29 November 2012 (UTC)
simple-fr
Hello,
I commented the following pages about simple-fr:
- meta:Requests for new languages/Wikipedia French Simple 3
- incubator:Incubator:Community Portal#Simple_world_languages
My plan is to:
- see if there is an active group of min. 3 people willing to create a test on incubator;
- see if they act effectively to get this test, and help them if they have some technical or social obstacles;
If this is not possible, I will conider to request a snowball closure of the proposal.
I would like to stress than other projects proposal, before to create such request page, had an active test on incubator, beta wikiversity or on the multilanguage wikisource. This is a requirement of the LangCom (which I'm not a member).
My feeling and I hope being wrong is you don't care about the simple-fr creation but would only find nice to have it. This is based on the fact you didn't move during one long month to get a wiki test working. --Dereckson (talk) 22:25, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- Hello, I am still concerned about the viability of the language for "scientific writing". Therefore I proposed that either simple:Color blindness or simple:Mimicry be among the first articles created in the test wiki. The respective French pages are fr:Daltonisme and fr:Mimétisme. My problem is that if the language cannot be used for such writing, the project will be doomed in the long run. --Eptalon (talk) 12:45, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

Personally if I found a lengthy article being recreated only a short while after deletion at AfD, I would speedy delete it, reason G4. I'm not going to spend an hour looking through all the sources at AfC if that is likely to happen! Sionk (talk) 23:46, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

What 'new information' has come to light in the week between the closure of the AfD and your creation of this duplicate article? I don't believe anything new has been published in that period. Much of the press coverage about Pollack is repeated verbatim on his website. If you're unhappy about the AfD decision, or think the sources already in the article were misinterpreted, I'm quite sure you should open a DRV.
- Out of interest, what 'new' coverage are you referring to? Sionk (talk) 11:35, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
- BTW I'm inclined to agree that calling The Houston Chronicle or The Arizona Republic 'trivial coverage in a local paper' seems a bit far fetched (as happened in the AfD). They seem to have a greater catchment area than many countries! Sionk (talk) 11:47, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
- I'm happy to discuss the issues specific to this article on this page. On the talk page on the speedy I opened it in general about using G4 for that rationale in general. I believe that AFD is best when in doubt, and speedy should be used sparingly (only in obvious cases). If I can establish that G4 can't be used in this instance, I'll tell editors at "Articles for creation" that they shouldn't worry about G4 being used in that instance.
- In regards to new coverage, it is demonstrated by comparing the number and quantity of sources in User:WhisperToMe/Michael_Pollack#References to the number of sources presented in the AFD (The article that was deleted was sourced mainly to Pollack's website) and the failure in that AFD to assess that the sources that were presented do count as significant coverage - Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Pollack - The "new" sources include the articles on EBSCOHost from The Business Journal and copious Arizona articles (Arizona Republic, Phoenix Business Journal, East Valley Tribune) as well as a few in the Houston Chronicle - If you agree that the Chronicle/Arizona Republic then maybe there are enough sources to warrant creation? Maybe Karanacs's analysis is flawed, and so his viewpoint on this matter runs against notability practices?
- Remember that it should be assessed by what sources the AFD discovered not necessarily what sources exist. If the AFD only considered X sources, but I find a larger number, even if those sources existed anyway, then it's still okay to say "that AFD is flawed - people who want to delete need to start a new AFD"

- Well, that seems to be a general reply, rather than a specific one. You're free to re-submit the article for AfC review or, because you're auto-confirmed, move it to the main article space yourself and run the consequences. Sionk (talk) 13:01, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
SNCF
Hello WhisperToMe, quite some time ago you were very involved in the article about the French train company, SNCF. Since then, the article was the subject of an extensive edit war, long since quieted down, though some sections of the article remained problematic. I am a consultant to SNCF in the U.S. and I have been discussing changes to the page with volunteer editors over the course of the past few months (link). I have not made any direct changes to the article and I do not intend to do so. Currently the discussion has focused on whether to move extensive commentary about a court case and political controversies in the 2000s to a related article (link). Another editor proposed this, and I have agreed. Is this a subject you would be willing to comment on? Thanks in advance, Jerry M. Ray (talk) 16:29, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Dear, Guoyu Software's Chinese name is 国聿软件, it's on their Chinese website www.bangzhutai.com
Dear WhisperToMe, I am following up on my series regarding Dental Management Service Organizations.
Are you taking money from the Moriarty-Leyendecker Law Firm? Is this money coming in the form of kickbacks for referrals, flat compensation, commissions, or percentages of any settlements, or any other form, tangible or intangible? I ask because you have several links to their websites, Facebook pages, and a "free case analysis".
Your response is kindly appreciated.
