My desire to elevation
I really feel that articles on old tamil films (before the 1980's) should develop and receive GA status. Some of my best efforts include Karnan 1964, Pudhiya Paravai, Parasakthi, Uthama Puthiran 1958, Kappalottiya Thamizhan, Kalyana Parisu, Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum and so on. But some articles can never be made as GA, mostly bcoz they lack reliable sources. But seeing these articles, u think they can be elevated? Kailash29792 (talk) 08:06, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- Good work with these articles. I don't think we'll be able to bring these to GA levels. If you have any old Tamil film books like "Theodre Bhaskaran", we can expand these articles. —Vensatry (Ping me) 05:30, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- Why i didnt disambiguate Alibabavum... was bcoz I wanted u to analyze both articles. Pls re-assess if u have seen any improvements. Kailash29792 (talk) 06:38, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Tough reviewer
If you think I'm bad, you should see some other reviewers! It's even worse at FA level. But I think it's best to aim for as high a standard as possible. I'm afraid I don't do lists, as Harrias says, but if you want me to cast an eye over any other cricket articles, I would be happy to (time permitting, of course). Mani Ratnam's Recurring Collaborations
Hi, This is regarding the reversion you made on Mani Ratnam's page of the recurring collaborations table created by me. Similar tables exist on other film director's pages on Wikipedia as well (refer Wes Anderson, Martin Scorsese) and are deemed useful, which is why they have been created in the first place. To completely remove it without discussion is definitely harsh, if not unwarranted. To further push for the table, I'd like to state that the multiple collaborations (especially Art direction, Cinematography and Editing) help in figuring out the technical difference in the works of the director. Also, the 'poor formatting' is based on the template on the Wes Anderson page. Please let me know your views regarding the issue.
Anant Singh (talk) 00:46, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
- First of all, did you ever discuss before adding it to the article. Care to provide an edit summary for your edits? Is the
Wes AndersonMartin Scorsese article a good example? The table looks haphazard without scroll bars. It makes navigation difficult and breaks the structure of the page. Just because other articles have something there doesn't mean that we should have the same here. —Vensatry (Ping me) 05:39, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
- I've added the table with scroll bars. —Vensatry (Ping me) 06:58, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
- First of all I'd like to say that the table looks much better now and would like to thank you for it. As i said earlier, it provides an easy access to the array of technicians Mani Ratnam has worked with. But I'd also like to add that I strongly feel your behaviour borders on violation of Wikipedia:Civility. Here are my points.
- (a) I didn't know one has to 'discuss' before contributing to Wikipedia. It wasn't as if I was vandalizing the page. Do you 'discuss' before making every single contribution to the site? Did you discuss the reversion you made? Wikipedia very clearly states the same point in its very first sentence (Wikipedia:Don't revert due solely to "no consensus")
- (b) If it was just the 'haphazard' look of the table, you could have done what you did now earlier, without reverting. To revert, is to shoot down any contribution made, thereby making way for either Revert wars or WP:Bite
- (c) As I stated earlier, as far as 'discussion' is concerned, you could have started one as well before reverting, considering the amount of time spent on researching each and every IMDb title for the collaborations. This just leads to WP:Bite
- (d) (Just to justify my actions in the first place) I haven't included similar tables for other Indian directors, yet, but the fact that Mani Ratnam has had a long history of working with a handful of people, thereby 'recurring' his 'collaborations', i considered it extremely useful to be placed here.
- Anyhow, all's well that ends well. The new table's format would definitely come in handy in future for editors.
- regards, Anant Singh (talk) 14:51, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
- Delighted to read your brief post. I don't have to start a discussion when my explanations are quite clear in the edit summary. Have you ever made an edit summary for any of your edits, especially when you make a major change? I reverted your unexplained edit because the article is a recently passed GA and major changes needs to be discussed. I don't think I was harsh at any stage or my conduct was violating WP:CIV either. —Vensatry (Ping me) 15:11, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

Your Recent Edits
Hello, I acknowledge that I don't use the edit summary as much as I should, but it does not take too much effort on your behalf to click to see the differences (ie press the diff button). You recently decided to revert two pages to incorrect versions without real care or knowledge of the changes which had been adapted. Here [1] you have re-inserted peacock terms such as "whopping", superlatives for the musician Devi Sri Prasad and an incorrect member of the cast, leading to confusion. Moreover here, [2] you have removed sourced information and once again, re-inserted incorrect information. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Editor 2050 (talk) 20:48, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
- It is considered good practice to provide a summary for every edit especially when you are making major changes. You could have shortly explained this in your edit summary. Busy editors may not have time to review each and every edit of yours. So try providing edit summaries for every major edit as many don't really care to check them while reverting. —Vensatry (Ping me) 04:08, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

I'd like to know what sort of criteria is being used to add places to this list. Initially, I had chosen to add municipalities and MCorps with pop > 100,000 but it appears someone has added smaller places like Tiruvallur as a part of Chennai agglomeration. If the editor has done so with the intention of adding all the constituents of Chennai agglomeration, then we must have places like Maraimalai Nagar, Guduvanchery, Singaperumal Koil, Nazarethpettai, Kundrathur, etc., in the list. And then, I find that Kanchipuram has been included while the more important and closer Chengalpattu has been left out.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 14:37, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
- Kanchipuram was included based on this source. Some anon had included other places like Tiruvallur. The source doesn't clearly mention the constituents of the metropolitan area. Since Kanchipuram is a bit far away from the core city than other places, it finds a special mention. —Vensatry (Ping me) 16:49, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

About Rahul Dravid clean up.
I see that you cleaned up about 4KB of the article. Although you did provide an edit summary, it would have been more helpful if after making such wholesome change to the article, you had summarised the change on the talk page. I tried to check history but it so tedious. I'm just concerned that you didn't lose any important fact or citation/reference from the article. Could you please summarise the nature of your edit on the talk page? Skagrawal4k (talk) 19:14, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- My edit summaries were quite obvious. The article is undergoing many edits from many new users and anons who keep adding repeated facts that too at irrelevant sections. The format of the lead was inconsistent. The External links contained a list of links that shouldn't be included under that. Also there was a "Trivia" section which is nothing but a repetition of the same facts which were already mentioned elsewhere in the article. —Vensatry (Ping me) 10:47, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hmm. I was just concerned that information should not be lost. Btw what was the need to remove the teams Dravid has represented?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Skagrawal4k (talk • contribs) 13:34, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- I feel a separate section for teams (representing a mere table) is unnecessary since the prose part and "infobox" adequately lists out the teams that he played for. —Vensatry (Ping me) 13:39, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
I wish to expand this article. Do you have any books or scholarly articles - English or Tamil on the subject?-RaviMy Tea Kadai 16:53, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
Can you write articles on Chitti and Krithika. Am feeling too lazy to write one.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 17:21, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- I don't have any books right now. As for Chitti and Krithika, I can see if I can create articles on them. —Vensatry (Ping me) 10:42, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- By the way, did you make a subscription for HighBeam Research. —Vensatry (Ping me) 13:50, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, Highbeam isn't that good. I come across much better stuff on Google Books and archive.org. I've applied for JSTOR access and I'm awaiting for the results. Once that comes, digging out stuff from the net will become much easier.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 17:23, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
List of Indian submissions for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film
Thanks for trying to source this article. It looks like you removed the link to filmfed.org, which needs to be in there somewhere. I am hoping that you can find a source for Mughal-e-Azam because I am trying to GA that one now. BollyJeff | talk 13:13, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- I might have probably missed that while cleaning up the reference part. According to this article no Indian film was sent to the Oscars in 1960. —Vensatry (Ping me) 13:28, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- Wow! When you figure it all out, this template will need to be updated as well: Template:Indian_submission_for_Academy_Awards BollyJeff | talk 13:59, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- There are a few more unsourced entries as well. Try finding sources before removing them. —Vensatry (Ping me) 17:02, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
