Termite FAC

Hello, since the last editor I asked this to about this article did not respond, I thought I'd ask you. First, this has been a side project that I intended on getting to GA since January last year. It was in a terrible state, but now it is at GA status. I was impressed with the GA review I must say. Second, this was professionally copyedited before its nomination, so the article is pretty well written. However, there has been quite a few edits since then, I intend on getting this to FA status but would like your input on the prose. Again, it was copyedited professionally so there should zero major mistakes. Third, it is currently being peer reviewed but there has not been much activity for awhile, so I will close it once an editor believes the article is suitable for nomination. I hope I'm not asking for a lot, but this should be relatively quick owing to the nature of the article itself. Burklemore1 (talk) 10:22, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Greetings Burklemore1. I don't have any experience at FAC, but I'd be happy to comment on the peer review, soon as I've finished the one I'm currently working on. Cheers, Vanamonde93 (talk) 14:32, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! I don't mean to be picky or needy with it, I just want to be absolutely sure no quickfail and such occurs. Take all the time you need. Burklemore1 (talk) 04:51, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
No worries. Couple of days, I think. Vanamonde93 (talk) 05:09, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

DYK for Leela Hazzah

On 17 April 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Leela Hazzah, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that conservation biologist Leela Hazzah began a program teaching Maasai hunters to protect lions instead of hunt them? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Leela Hazzah. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Leela Hazzah), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. "Buenos Aires" tourism section

I've changed a paragraph and you deleted it!. In the article "talks" I wrote this...

Tourism section. HOMOPHOBIA

Who wrote the second paragraph talking about gay life? That's not true. In Buenos Aires the citizens are homophobics and gay relations are not well seen. Discrimination is something very common for gay Argentines and for foreigners could be worst. To lye in an article like this one is worst, in Argentina we know the reality, but lying to people from other parts of the world is not good. They want to have a bad time in the city seems. That paragraph starts with this "Known for its openness and tolerance" Who said that???, that's not bibliographical for Wikipedia, it's an OPINION of who wroted!

If you thought that I did something wrong, it's "strange" that you forgot to "delete" the original paragraph, that doesn't contains Wikipedia standards

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 181.29.159.250 (talk) 05:39, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

IP, if you believe that Buenos Aires is hostile to LGBT folks, you need to find reliable sources that say so, and present the information in them duly weighted. You cannot simply delete information that has been sourced, because you do not like it. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 05:45, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

In a school

hi. i'm in a school and provably there were some pupils editing wikipedia before i came on this computer. sure you know there are some scholars doing stupid things on internet. can happen :):):) 94.80.177.67 (talk) 08:22, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Yes indeed, that is quite common. If you wish to not see messages meant for somebody else editing from that computer, the right thing to do would be to register an account; that way you are only held accountable for your own edits. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 15:26, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Why did you remove my edit?

Hello Vanamonde93!

I am now sitting here for 3 hours, editing and completing my universities page and you just undo my changes?? I hope you saved them because I did not — Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.88.1.29 (talk) 22:22, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

Hmm, I appear to have accidentally reverted very many of your edits, which was not the intention. I've undone my change; the content has not disappeared, never fear. The reason I came there in the first place, though, was this edit of yours, which added extraneous markup, and I'm sure you will agree, looks like a test. Also, while I have reverted my removal, you need to remember that Wikipedia is not a directory, but an encyclopedia. Long lists of departments and professors are not appropriate; I would suggest reading WP:NOTDIR. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 22:34, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
I see. With the first issue you are totally right I accidentially messed that up. Regarding the second parts: I made my changes according to the german page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.88.1.29 (talk) 22:41, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
I am not acquainted with the German Wikipedia, so I'm not sure what the relevant guidelines would be, there. In any case, nobody is accusing you of anything; we were all new, once. What you need to do is to focus on adding information from what reliable sources have said about the university, rather than reproducing its webpages. Oh, and please WP:INDENT and sign your posts on a talk page, to make things easier for those reading them. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 22:46, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

Johannat1974, welcome to Wikipedia. Your situation is not uncommon. You are most welcome to make changes to any article you like; however, your changes need to follow the five pillars of Wikipedia. Third opinion on Peak Oil page

Thanks for your assistance with this issue. The individual has not discussed any of his edits on the article Talk page. I have tried to contact the him twice without success. I will attempt to do so again. I'm concerned that he won't engage but will continue to put the material back repeatedly. I'm trying my best to avoid an edit war but it's difficult. Your advice is most appreciated. Blandx (talk) 21:10, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Blandx, such situations are rather difficult, and there is no magic bullet solution. I would suggest posting on their talk page and/or pinging them to get involved in the talk page discussion. If they continue to not do so but to add original research, then reporting them to WP:AN3 might be appropriate, but really that should not be done until you have made every effort to discuss the issue. Of course, you need to be careful to avoid edit-warring yourself; it is okay to let the "wrong" version remain up (with some exceptions) while you try to discuss something. I would also suggest thoroughly investing what sources the other editor provided. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 21:15, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Closing peer review

Hi, Vanamonde93. I thought about reverting the closure of your peer-review request, but ended up asking about it at the bot's operator's page. Do read our short discussion there; then maybe a discussion with the peer-review project/group should be next. I think 30 days is too short a time, and the template message saying there was a review when there weren't even any comments strikes me as misleading. — Gorthian (talk) 21:32, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Gorthian; I will certainly look in; thanks for raising the issue, and for letting me know. BTW, any comments you have would be appreciated: I would like to take the article to FAC, if I can, and I know you have an interest in it. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 21:35, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

June 2016 Guild of Copy Editors Newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors June 2016 News

Hello everyone, welcome to the June 2016 GOCE newsletter. It's been a few months since we sent one out; we hope y'all haven't forgotten about the Guild! Your coordinators have been busy behind the scenes as usual, though real life has a habit of reducing our personal wiki-time. The May backlog reduction drive, the usual coordinating tasks and preparations for the June election are keeping us on our toes!

May drive: Thanks to everyone who participated in last month's record-setting backlog reduction drive. Of the 29 people who signed up, 16 copyedited at least one article, 197 copyedits were recorded on the drive page, and the copyedit backlog fell below 1,500 for the first time! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

June Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz will occur from 12 June through 18 June; the themes will be video games and Asian geography.

Coordinator elections: It's election time again; how quickly they seem to roll around! Nominations for the next tranche of Guild coordinators, who will serve a six-month term that begins at 00:01 UTC on 1 July and ends at 23:59 UTC on 31 December, opens at 00:01 UTC on 1 June and closes at 23:59 UTC on 15 June. Voting takes place between 00:01 UTC on 16 June and 23:59 UTC on 30 June. If you'd like to assist behind the scenes, please consider stepping forward; self-nominations are welcomed and encouraged. All Wikipedia editors in good standing are eligible; remember it's your Guild, and it doesn't run itself!

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Miniapolis and Baffle gab1978.

To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

Proposed deletion of Keity Souza Santos

The article Keity Souza Santos has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

academic notability disputed.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. fgnievinski (talk) 03:34, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

7&6=thirteen, I intentionally used rather than ; as I understand it, they both mean that an article is ready for DYK, but the former also means that I accept, based on assuming good faith, a source that I do not have access to. In this case, the RS for the hook was an offline source; hence the use of "tick-AGF" rather than "tick." In any case, the hook has been promoted now. Death penalty

Hello. On your express recommendation, I made a list of proposals for the modern-day public opinion section and I am working on a list for contemporary era. But Signedzzz recently wrote in Talk:Capital punishment "Urutine32, you know none of this is going in the article. In fact it is probably enough to get you banned from editing. Please stop wasting my time. zzz (talk) 09:54, 8 July 2016 (UTC)". What do you think of this contention? Thank you. Urutine32 (talk) 10:47, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

Urutine32, I came to that discussion to offer a third opinion, not to get embroiled in a lengthy debate. I think your edits on that page are well intentioned, but you need to carefully read WP:PRIMARY before proceeding. You have repeatedly inserted material (such as was removed [1]) referenced to a primary source; additionally, you have added some commentary of your own. This is not appropriate. Please read the linked guideline, and find some secondary sourced for the information you wish to add. I don't want to get further embroiled here, so if the debate continues, I would suggest trying some other method of dispute resolution, such as an WP:RFC or a post at WP:DRN. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 11:18, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

Recent edits to Joe Eszterhas

My Name is Franz Ressel. I received a message from you regarding an edit I did on the Joe Eszterhas article.

First of all, I would like to thank you for all the great work you are doing on Wikipedia. I have been a user and supporter of Wikipedia for years and I agree with you, that free and open access to knowledge is an incredibly important idea.

As to the Joe Eszterhas article, I am the producer of the official website for Joe Eszterhas and I am working closely with him. We have been reviewing the information listed on Joe's article. We have found a number of errors along with inconsistencies, and we are in the process of updating the information. All the information we are adding or changing has been confirmed either from available sources or from Mr. Eszterhas himself.

I would like to apologize for deleting the section without listing the reason. I will make sure to do that from now on. Our intent is to provide the most accurate information.

I really appreciate that you are looking over what we are doing and I am hoping that you can give us feedback. Please let us know if you have any suggestions on how we can improve or change the article in addition to our current edits.

Franzressel (talk) 18:28, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

Franzressel, leaving an edit summary next time would indeed be helpful, but you also need to have good reasons to remove a large amount of information from an article. Those revisions have been suppressed, so I'm not actually sure what you removed, but just keep that in mind. Additionally, if you are acting in an official capacity on behalf of Eszterhas, then you need to be aware that you have a conflict of interest on that page; you should read WP:COI, and act accordingly. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 04:34, 9 July 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Iryna Zolotarevych

Hi Vanamonde93. You nominated my page Iryna Zolotarevych for speedy deletion - wanted to let you know that I created a contest page Talk:Iryna Zolotarevych and left a message there. Please feel free to explain how "it serves only to promote or publicise an entity, person, product, or idea" and especially how I should re-write to make it more encyclopedic. I already made some changes to make the article more neutral, where possible. Thanks! Rita Sonbahar (talk) 18:31, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

Rita Sonbahar: the page appears to have been deleted now, but don't take it too hard; first creations often are. The problem with the page was that it was essentially a resume, which serves to promote a person. I would suggest reading up on verifiability, notability, [[WP::NPOV|neutrality]], and what Wikipedia is not; and that will stand you in good stead for any future creations. I'm not sure if you have any connection to Iryna Zolotarevych, but if so, you should also take a look at WP:COI. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 04:45, 9 July 2016 (UTC)

DYK

I can see you are an experienced Wikipedian, but I have only recently seen your name around at DYK. The atmosphere at DYK has been somewhat strained recently. For some time earlier in the year, there was much criticism of inaccurate hooks, errors in articles and people being called to account for promoting problematic hooks/articles, with hooks being pulled from the main page. It all culminated in a complaint about a certain editor at ANI which had repercussions and left a rather toxic atmosphere (the DYK discussion page archives will show you what happened}.

Perhaps as a result, or maybe not, people stopped building prep sets and almost the only person still doing so is me, not because I want to, but because somebody needs to do it if DYK is not to grind to a halt. So I was pleased to see you chipping in and building some sets. My current problem is that many of the older approved hooks were reviewed by me, and some are my own articles, neither of which I can promote. So when I build a set now I am promoting newer and newer nominations while the older nominations linger waiting for someone else to deal with them. I hope you can help in this respect. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 11:21, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

Greetings, Cwmhiraeth. It's true that I have only recently started doing more than just reviewing DYK nominations, even though I've wanted to get involved with the back-end for a while now. I plan to spend a while building sets now and again; even in the few I've built, I noticed how many you either reviewed or submitted! My involvement in the months before this has been constrained by real life (just being committed to a whole bunch of other things), and I can't say for certain when those constraints will return. When I'm short on time, I tend to focus on building a couple of articles at a time, and less on more meta-things. As long as I'm able, though, I'll do my best to help. Bajrang Dal is not declared as a Millitant organization by any court of law in India or any government

It would be bad to declare something without having any legal basis just on somebody's whims and fancies Durgeshkumarsingh (talk) 18:02, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

Durgeshkumarsingh, welcome to Wikipedia. Our content is based on what we call "reliable sources," and government sources are not usually considered reliable. Legality or otherwise is quite irrelevant. What matters is that multiple scholarly sources (in this case, virtually all that discuss the Bajrang Dal) refer to it as a militant organization; therefore we do, too. If you still have questions, please read up on WP:V, WP:RS and WP:PRIMARY. Hope this helps. Regards,

Gypsy violin

Just found this.  Mr.choppers | ✎  04:13, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

Mr Choppers, unfortunately I don't speak German, but I will post this to the german-speaking noticeboard, and see if somebody will do a check. I've also already passed the nomination based on good faith, but this won't hurt. Regards, Vanamonde (talk) 04:55, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
Mr Choppers: actually, strike that last. I assumed you were the DYK nominator for a second. Since you're not, I'm curious as to how you came upon this discussion, but in any case your help is appreciated; and you could check the source yourself, since you speak German, right? Vanamonde (talk) 04:57, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
I don't know why I read it, but I thought that maybe the source was available in a local library. Could you give me the quote and the page number, please?  Mr.choppers | ✎  14:11, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
Mr. Choppers, it would seem that in the interim the nomination has been promoted (I didn't feel justified in pulling it), but nonetheless, the source in question was source one here. Page 221, I believe, is the one in question. Regards, Vanamonde (talk) 17:28, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

Alerts for Tabnak

Thanks for quick response. Now I got a second warning in Arabic. I am unable to solve this problem. Maybe you are able to find the reasons for the alerts. Thank you very much.Tabnak (talk) 14:41, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Vanamonde93 Greeting. One reason for the alert "copyright", I believe that I about Rubab (instrument) in the Persian edition of Wiki https://fa.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D8%B1%D8%A8%D8%A7% D8% A8 have also written under Amber86 $. So Tabnak for English and Amer86 $ for Persian is the same person. Also, I'm a fan of classics like Thomas Hyde (Orientalist), Goethe, Ruckert, John Richardson, etc. ThanksTabnak (talk) 15:07, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
Hmm. I am not overly familiar with the username policy, but I would guess that a name conflict needs to be solved by renaming your account. If you share the text of the alert with me, perhaps we could be more certain. Also, these pages may be of use to you : [2], [3]. Regards, Vanamonde (talk) 15:23, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
On my site is a symbol of a bell. There is a short text of alerts was in Arabic. As far as I could read and understand, stood criticism or warning. I think on my next entry, the warning would reappear. Then I'll send you the Arabic text. Perhaps is the author of this page https://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D8%B1%D9%87_%D9%88%D8%A7_%D9%81%D9%88 Regards, Tabnak (talk) 05:14, 9 August 2016 (UTC)
Well, if you're not a regular editor in Arabic, that could be anything, even just a welcome template. Why not try using google translate to figure it out? Vanamonde (talk) 06:02, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

I think the problem seems to have been solved. My ignorance is responsible for my interpretative approach. It habndelt around https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Selective_dissemination_of_information, so probably not any violation of the rights. Thanks for your help and guidance.
