Sister cities

I liked the recent comment at Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/Bilateral international relations; there must be many instances of sister cities as effective conduits for relations of political entities; are there examples, or references to relevant examples of such? Thanks again. --Mr Accountable (talk) 22:42, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Gerontocracy

Can't find anything with more than 5 hits with the "presbyteros" root; gerontocracy is the closest I can find. Btw, I happened to see your WP:ROBO ad; I'm in that wikiproject too, what's your interest? (Watchlisting) - Dank (formerly Dank55) (push to talk) 18:49, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Of course! How could I have forgotten about gerontocracy‽ I KNEW that one. Thanks for bringing it up. As for WP:Robotics, I am actually not a part of it (though I did take a cool robotics class back in high school). I run Template:Wikipedia ads on my page which displays a random ad for various wikiprojects, robotics is in that random list. Valley2city 19:10, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Indefinite block on user Cytowic

I'd like you to reconsider this. I was trying to familiarize this with Wikipedia policies and I believe any sock-puppetry here may be more of a misunderstanding, and we should heed the advice from WP:DONTBITE. -- Scarpy (talk) 20:27, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

After looking at all the evidence and consulting with other members of SPI (who have agreed with me that indef block was indeed merited), I've decided, considering your request and with their consultation, to reduce the block to 72 hours with the understanding that Cytowic familiarizes himself with the WP:SOCK policy and you should definitely keep helping him. I don't necessarilly see any malice in his actions but due to the seriousness of sockpuppetry a three day block is still merited.Valley2city 23:44, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. A three day block sounds reasonable. -- Scarpy (talk) 01:39, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

GA Sweeps invitation

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are listed as a GA reviewer. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, therunning total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Hi Valley2city. I noticed on one or two RfA's you added " (Ctrl-click)"> " before links in other users comments.[1] and[2]. I was just wondering why you were editing other editors comments to add that, as it seems like an odd thing to do. ∗ \ / {talk} 12:05, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

That was ME that did that That is quite bizarre because I was looking at those trying to figure out what those things were doing there and what they meant. Yeah, I don't even know what that means. I just started using Google Chrome. Maybe that's what's happening. I am at a loss for words. Thanks for bringing it up, I have no idea what is going on. Those were definitely my edits because I was !voting on both of them but I have no idea where those control-click thingies came from. Weird.Valley2city 17:00, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
FYI it's a widespread problem right now and is possibly caused by WikiED or Google Chrome or a combination of the two, as seenin this thread. Valley2city 21:48, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I thought it seemed like an odd thing to be doing! :) Hope it gets sorted without too much hassle. ∗\ / {talk} 21:52, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

brett frana deletion

Hi my name is brett frana i was working on my bio and it then became an issue where people though i was entering false untrue information. is it possible to have things undone? i was told i had a few days to get the thrill kill kult webmaster to update the website.. it will be dont by friday afternoon.. i was told i had a few days and that if my information was put up it wouldnt of been deleted —Preceding unsigned comment added by Brettfrana(talkcontribs) 16:01, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Brett, welcome. Unfortunately, the community's consensus was to delete. Articles for Deletion lasts for 7 days, following which, if the consensus of the community is clear, I as an administrator act on it. The reason we give it seven days is that by the end of a full week we can usually gauge what the community feels and make a decision on the fate of the article. We also give it seven days so that anyone who thinks the article can be salvaged can revise it in order to make it up to snuff so that it would be acceptable as an article enough to swing the !vote, though, looking at the edit history, no revisions had been made to the page the entire week. As it stands there are multiple problems pointed out in the debate, each of which would automatically cause the article to be speedily deleted, such as Notability and Verifiability. Additionally it was completely unsourced. Also, writing an autobiography is discouraged. User:Astronaut proposed that we temporarilly put your article into user space so you can work on it, though he too also asked for it to be deleted. If you want and have e-mail set up on wikipedia, I can e-mail the article to you as it was and you can create a userpage atUser:Brettfrana/Brett Frana. Let me know. If you want to, set up your e-mail address by going to Special:Preferences.Valley2city 17:04, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

i would love to have my bio put back up. if the thrill kill page pute my name and stuff up by tomorrow can it be done? i had a hard tome locating the webmaster and i was only updateing my bio because it had lacked in info and had info that wasnt necessary.. i am a musician and a production designer and all of the information was true i am a former member of bile in which i was in for 6 yeard then i had been playing keyboards and guitar for thrill kill.. both bands are notabe and my name isnt on the bile page because im not a current member i only do behind the scenes now... i would like to have my bio placed back online because i do feel it was wrongfully deleted and not fair. —Preceding unsigned comment added by71.224.28.34 (talk) 17:26, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

If we are talking about an official band website, I would say it still doesn't satisfy verifiablity or notability. You need news articles, etc, in order for it to satisfy either. Please see Wikipedia:Third-party sources for what the article requires. What is the URL though, and I'll check it out, even though I realize it hasn't been changed yet. And as I mentioned the consensus of the community was that the article should still be deleted, so that's the bottom line for now. Consider taking Astronaut's suggestion and write it on your userpage, because it cannot currently stand as an actual article for the reasons discussed in theAfD. I wouldn't say it was wrongfully deleted, but part of the process that is Wikipedia. Valley2city 18:01, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

these links are some links and articles that mention me playing with bile and by another alias Brett Piranha that thrill kill kult gave me because when i met them for thew first time in 2002 thwy were drunk and couldnt pronounce my name so i got stuck with that.. also if you go to the bile page and look at their pics they still have promo shots and love shots with me on the page with my name under it.. i quit in 2008 bile when i moved to los angelas for thrill kill kult..

Unfortunately, the last two links did not direct to articles. Garradam seems to be an official site (and therefore first party) a fansite, Mininova is a torrent site, reverbnation seems to be like myspace. As far as I can tell none of these sites can be used to satisfy verifiabilty nor notability. It's the burden on the editor to prove those two things and as far as the AfD is concerned, those who weighed in unanimously did not see that in this article. Valley2city 07:40, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

FlyingToaster

She doesn't actually have the mop and bucket anymore. She was found to be plagiarizing, most likely without being aware of it, and she resigned the tools as it was likely the community wouldn't have faith in an administrator who made such serious mistakes.AniMatedraw 08:00, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Rfp/Rollback

Thanks for responding. Do you have any other suggestions as well? How many edits/how long of a duration working with anti vandalism would you suggest? Jared555 (talk) 06:00, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey Jared, thank you for understanding. I would suggest to first of all keep doing what you're doing. I would also suggest manually reverting edits or using the "undo" function and manually posting the appropriate warning template to a vandal's userpage (along with a welcome for new users). Sometimes we get too comfortable with the semi-automated Twinkle and I often manually warn to keep me on my toes. This is especially important when you are beginning to fight vandalism. Learn how to manually send reports to WP:AIV (Administrator intervention against vandalism) for vandals who have exhausted their warnings. As for time/edits, there is no fixed threshold and each administrator might have different standards, but I think that you're on the right track so give it maybe a week or two and a couple dozen more proper reversions. Though I will be on a semi-break for the next nine weeks, I should be on a couple of times a week so you can just ask for rollback here on my talk page. Alternatively you can post again to Requests for Permissions. Either way, it shouldn't be an issue at that point. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Valley2city 06:25, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. I hope you enjoy your break. The main reason I currently use Twinkle is by the time I undo revisions (especially multiple vandalisms) someone has already done a full reversion.Jared555 (talk) 07:00, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

I apologize in advance if this sounds nitpicky... When there are some delete !votes on the board, we can't really close something as "nomination withdrawn". It implies that the AfD is fully in the hands of the nominator, which it is not once the AfD is set in motion. In this case, it could seem a little dismissing of User:JJL who was still recommending deletion. The exception, as perWP:SPEEDYKEEP, is in cases where the nominator withdraws the nomination and there are no "delete" !votes in the discussion at all. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 03:53, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Don't apologize, you were right to call me on it. My reasoning for this particular close was because the reason for the AfD was no longer valid and was thus the reason given for the withdraw. I didn't mean to disenfranchise anyone by closing it as such, but in my opinion the reasons no longer existed for the AfD to remain valid and thus I ruled the way I did. Valley2city 07:38, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay, fair enough, though it seemed to me that JJL believed that the AfD was still valid (and had a valid point of view about it), as he or she appears to take a stricter reading of WP:NALBUMS than some of us do, believing that articles about albums generally ought not to exist prior to an album's release. Paul Erik(talk)(contribs) 14:52, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas

The above English footballer was the subject of an AfD in March 2009, the result of which was to delete due to him not at that time having played a pro game. Tomorrow evening he is likely to make his pro debut for Blackpool F.C. and so I have created the article in my sandbox in readiness for when he eventually plays, which if not tomorrow should be within the next four weeks. I was told that an Admin could userfy a copy of the original article in case there is anything in it which can be used for a new article. I've no idea what was in that article, however it might have something that can be used, so as you were the Admin involved in the closure of the AfD, would it be possible for you to do this? Thank you. ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 17:52, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Done. Sure. I have cut-and-paste userfied the article at User:Tangerines/sandbox/Jay Emmanuel-Thomas (your other version exists still at User:Tangerines/sandbox). If you prefer a history of the article I can also do that, but I don't know if this is an option at the low-tech computer I cam currently posting from at camp. Valley2city 03:04, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for the above (I forgot to say thanks before) and as the article has now been created shouldthis sandbox now be deleted? Thanks.--♦Tangerines♦·Talk 22:48, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
You're welcome. I've taken care of deleting that sandbox for you. Valley2city 03:47, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Blocking of 203.10.224.94

Hi,

The above IP is shared by many thousands of users. It belongs to the Australian Government Would you please unblock

Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added byRegistered59 (talkcontribs) 02:35, September 17, 2009

Unfortunately, there was so much vandalism coming from this shared IP address that blocking was the only option. I only blocked for a short period of time and people with already existing user accounts from this address should still be able to log in without any problem. Valley2city 02:53, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

Blocking of 203.10.224.94

This IP is share by thousands of users.....I can see no evidence of valdalism from that IP. Removal of uncited material does not constitute vandalism.

I appreciate that blocking people gives you a great feeling of power, however, in this case that authority has been abused.—Preceding unsigned comment added byRegistered59 (talkcontribs) 03:12, September 17, 2009

There are other edits in the recent history besides the removal of material, some of which was general vandalism, some of which was engaging in an edit-war, some of which was down-right defamation. The challenges of having an IP address, particularly a shared one, are that people might ruin it for others as is the case here. People who have previously created accounts can still login. Anyone who has not, however, will need to wait 23 hours for the block to expire. Valley2city 03:25, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel

Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel is a target of prolific sockpuppeteer Brexx (WP:Sockpuppet investigations/Brexx/Archive). If I had seen the request for unprotection, I would have strenuously objected. Brexx is known to use anonymous proxies, so the odds are good that the unprotection request came from Brexx. Please reconsider. Please note that parallel requests came in for two of his targets: this and Jennifer Lopez.—Kww(talk) 15:54, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

Wow, I didn't even notice that. I also didn't notice anything suspect on the talk page. I saw indeed the approved unprotect for JLo . Please feel free to reprotect if you think necessary. Thanks, Valley2city 16:03, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm not an admin, so I cannot reprotect.—Kww(talk) 16:05, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
Alright. I took a look at the sock report. Could you possibly submit a report to WP:SPI with your evidence? I'm not sure if it's a DUCK yet. I think we should leave it unprotected for now but let's keep a close eye on it and it will be reprotected in the case an edit war breaks out. Valley2city 16:13, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
I've asked a checkuser to look things over. Just to let you know, User:Kww/Brexx contains the list of articles that I use to keep track of Brexx. Requests on those articles need to be scrutinized a little bit harder than most: they may be legitimate, but they need to be looked at.—Kww(talk) 16:19, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Lil-unique1. I actually had suggested to Kww to issue the SPI report. If the Checkuser, which has been endorsed, turns out a sock OR anything unusual happens to the article then we can reprotect. For now let's see what happens Valley2city 01:57, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Copy of an article in indef-blocked user space

User:ISKapoor/Bhapa - is the source of the just-deleted article in mainspace of similar name. In the discussion, it was mentioned that this should probably be killed off. I don't know if that is an OK thing to do, but this article just-keeps-coming-back. Might you kill that copy off?- Sinneed 21:34, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Sorry about all the requests, but please could you block the user Trainreq as they have vandalised several pages and been given a final warning. Thanks again. Liverpoolfan567 (talk) 16:38, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Hey, sorry I've been away for over two days due to the Jewish holidays of Shabbat, Shemini Atzeret, and Simchat Torah. In the future you can submit pages for speedy deletion and report vandals who have been sufficiently warned toWP:AIV. For something general like this it tends to go faster if all admins are notified at once, as we can easily check these pages which are centralized. Keep up the good work fighting against vandalism. Valley2city 06:04, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice. I will do that in future. Liverpoolfan567 (talk) 12:55, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Block of Joebobtwoshi

Hello, I noticed you recently blocked my account, Joebobtwoshi, citing it as a vandalism-only account (I changed routers so I can continue editing from a different IP). Perhaps you did not notice a few of the constructive edits made by Joebobtwoshi to various small articles and one to a larger article's talk page. It's true that while many of these small edits were to new and poorly-created articles, almost all were constuctive, providing accurate Wiki links and formatting. Based on this, I ask you to unblock Joebobtwoshi, I don't find it fair at all that it was blocked (at least a warning would have been nice). 71.231.93.28 (talk) 04:31, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

The edits were not constructive but instead were attacks against wikipedia and its editors. You also admitted to being a sockpuppet; sockpuppetry is a violation of wikipedia policy and merits an instant block. The block is therefore justified. Evading a block by jumping IPs is also not allowed. Do you think you would actually be able to contribute constructively to Wikipedia? As it stands I do not see anything constructive. Valley2city 04:50, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
Do you know about the contributions page? I assume you do because you are apparently an administrator. Please look at it. None of the edits were attacks against Wikipedia, and only a few were attacks against an editor (my sockpuppet, so that doesn't really count, I don't think) (they weren't really attacks, either, merely unconstructive edits). You are making assumptions without checking the facts. I know I'm editing a bunch of pages that are marked for speedy deletion anyways, but I did not create any of those articles and almost all my edits were merely adding Wikilinks and fixing formatting. I'm not sure how that's unconstructive, let alone an attack on Wikipedia. If you don't like my edits, then fine, you can advise me against them, but suddenly blocking me without warning and without just cause seems too harsh. At the very least, that's all I'm asking.71.231.93.28 (talk) 05:07, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
I'm aware of your contributions. The various signatures you gave to your username, as can be found in thehistory, reflect your negative view of wikipedia and constitute an attack. You also make a false claim of being an administrator and having other rights that you don't haveon your userpage. Nothing can justify that. If you hate Wikipedia so much, why do you want to be editing? And I suggest you take a look at Wikipedia:Sock puppetry to see the reasons why there is no justification for you to use a sockpuppet for an account that has been blocked (Joebobaboba. Hi Valley2city. I've restored the {{openproxy}} block on User:117.198.129.155 after granting User:EkabhishekIP block exempt rights. Hope that's ok with you. -FASTILY (TALK) 06:49, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

That's fine, thanks. That was actually my first thought but I got talked out of doing ipexempt. I've never granted ipexempt but if anyone deserves it, it's Ekabhishek. Thanks, Valley2city 07:03, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
