Thank you today for Donkey Kong Country, introduced as one of those rare (ba-dum-chiss) video games where it's impossible to overstate its influence. It transformed Donkey Kong from a dusty, archaic product of the olden days into a multimillion-dollar franchising juggernaut, turned the tide of the 16-bit console wars by giving players a taste of 3D graphics well before they could actually play next-generation hardware, and elevated Rare from a tiny, unknown studio into one of the video game industry's premier developers. I uploaded pics of a trip that was a 10-day celebration of a 16 November event, but the day was also when a dear friend died. We sang Hevenu shalom aleichem at his funeral yesterday, and it was good. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:06, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Thank you today for PlayStation (console), introduced (in 2021): "The PlayStation is a Faustian story of trust and betrayal, animosity and friendship, and strive to power. It is one of the most important video game consoles and also among the most recognisable. I started work on this back in 2014, left it for six years, and picked it up again last year. Since then its length has been tripled and much needed comprehensibility added. It has recently come out of a GA review which has improved the article even more. My thanks goes to Indrian for his invaluable knowledge and support, and TheJoebro64 for picking up where the review left off. Seeing this as a Featured Article along with the Sega Saturn would do both consoles of the electrifying 1990s great justice."! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:02, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations! What a great one! Your work is never short of a monumental achievement. Panini! 🥪 07:29, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both! ♦ JAGUAR  13:04, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Today's story comes from a DYK about a concert that fascinated me, and you can listen! For my taste, the hook has too little music - I miss the unusual scoring and the specific dedication - but it comes instead with a name good for viewcount. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:16, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On the Main page today Jean Sibelius on his birthday. Listening to Beethoven's Fifth from the opening of Notre-Dame de Paris. We sang in choirs today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:54, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Listen today to Beethoven's 3rd cello sonata, on his birthday - it was a hook in the 2020 DYK set when his 250th birthday was remembered. I picked a recording with Antonio Meneses, because he was on my sad list this year, and I was in Brazil (see places), and I love his playing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:38, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Seasons Greetings!
