2nd Annual GA Cup - Round 4
GA Cup competitors and observers: Happy Fall! Get ready, we're about to move into the finals of the second-ever GA Cup! Monday saw the end of Round 3. Out of the 8 contestants in the semi-finals, 5 have moved to the finals. The semi-finals were competitive. Our semi-finalists reviewed a total of 61 articles, or a grand total of 1,151 points. If you were to lump the top winners from each of the three pools together, it'd be a close horse race; they were within 35 points of each other, which can only mean that the finals will be an exciting race. Tomandjerry211, our top scorer in Round 2, again earned the most points in the semi-finals, with 288 points and 16 articles reviewed. Johanna came in second overall, with 251 points and 13 articles reviewed; Sturmvogel 66 came in third overall, with 221 points and 16 articles. Rounding out our wildcard slots are Zwerg Nase and The Rambling Man. These contestants were very strategic in how they reviewed articles. Like every other round in the history of the GA Cup, success depended upon reviewing oldest-nominated articles. For example, Johanna reviewed 5 articles that were worth the highest possible points. Congrats to all our finalists, and good luck! Stay tuned to this space for more information about the 2nd GA Cup, including overall statistics and how this competition has affected Wikipedia. We regret to inform you that Dom497, one of our original judges and co-creator of the GA Cup, has stepped down as a judge. Dom, a longtime member of WP:WikiProject Good articles, is responsible for the look of the GA Cup and has been instrumental in its upkeep. We wish him the best as he starts his university education, and are certain that he'll make an impact there as he has in Wikipedia. The finals started on October 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and will end on Ocober 29 at 23:59:59 UTC with a winner being crowned. Information about the Final can be found here. Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6 and Jaguar, and MrWooHoo. To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Your GA nomination of Battletoads (video game)
Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Battletoads (video game) you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of AdrianGamer -- AdrianGamer (talk) 08:40, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
Hi, can you please perform a minor copy-edit to this article, which is currently at FAC? I know, it can be a boring job, but being a short article it won't take much time. Your help in this regard would be much appreciated. Thanks, —Vensatry (ping) 06:26, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
- Sure, at a first glance the article looks well written as it is. I'll give it a copyedit later today JAGUAR 11:23, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
- Hey Vensatry, I've finished my copyedit of the article. It's compact and well written. Please let me know if I can help out in any other way? JAGUAR 18:58, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks Jaguar, I'll have a look at it shortly. I've opened up a PR to ensure that the second FAC is hassle free. Would you like to offer some comments? —Vensatry (ping) 06:36, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
- Sure, I can list down a couple of minor things that could be expanded upon shortly JAGUAR 09:31, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

This list has been promoted to FL status yesterday and is my first FL success. Thanks for reviewing/commenting/supporting the list's promotion at its FLC. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 01:44, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
- Well done, Pavan! I hope you are feeling better. JAGUAR 18:59, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
- Yes. To an extent. I've been too reserved, calm and composed since then and a few assumed me to be a recluse. BTW did you watch Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu? If you lost the link, here it is. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 02:05, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
- I haven't watched it yet, but now I have the link in front of me I'll be sure to watch it today as I have nothing to do. Don't worry about it Pavan, it sounds like you're handling it much better than I did. When it happened to me both in 2012 and earlier this year, I didn't even go outside for a long time. I think it's only natural - I was a recluse for a while as it affected me deeply. JAGUAR 09:31, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
- Many say that we tend to forget such losses when we try to divert our focus on many things and avoiding free time. That works only to a limited extent. The moment you are stressed, the memories begin to haunt you. Since the loss, i barely slept till date, even now. So many dreams, hallucinations and what not! I plan to visit some other place in India this late November to sooth myself. Anyways, i hope you'll like the film. Let me know your feedback once you're done watching! Pavanjandhyala (talk) 09:37, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
- I understand that it is very difficult to keep your mind off things. Visiting new and different places will definitely do good, it helped me through a similar experience. I hope you get better soon. I'll begin watching the film shortly and I'll let you know what I think of it! JAGUAR 09:56, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

My progress has been smooth, Jaguar. I feel a lot better. The pain and memories do continue to haunt, but i am able to divert my mind. Except for obligations (including studies), i am mostly reclusive towards all other interests of mine. It was of such an extent that i said straightaway on Ssven2's face that i'm not in a mood to listen to his suggestions at the moment and will do so when i have some peace of mind (and that really hurts me, considering his friendly nature). Hope he doesn't feel bad about that. Anyways, what about you? Did you complete watching the film? Pavanjandhyala (talk) 16:04, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
- That's good, Pavan. I know how hard it is when you lose someone, and it's definitely not an easy process to get through. You seem to be doing much better than I was! The reclusive part is natural - I can assure I didn't leave my house for almost two weeks in 2012. I then started getting very bad panic attacks that summer, but I managed to overcome it when I started college in September that year. I did finish the film a couple of days ago, and I loved it. The subtitles in the latter half weren't accurate at all LOL! I did have some trouble making out the plot in the second half, but it was the emotions and cinematography that mattered for me. I really enjoyed the film, it was beautiful. The actors knew how to portray a family relationship. That's what I love about Telugu cinema so far; it's real! Anyway, I'm sure Ssven would understand what has happened. It's completely natural. I hope you're doing well. Regards JAGUAR 19:15, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kind words Jaguar. Well, what i loved in this film was also its simplicity, acting and cinematography. Also i find it very strange that except for the female leads, none of the characters have names. The moments between the brothers (esp. 59:57 to 01:03:38 and 1:24:32 to 1:27:00) were heartwarming. But above all, the brothers' father's character managed to impress me a lot. The conversation with his sons (2:26:15 to 2:28:47) and the succesive parts of the film till the end are the ones i consider the finest moments of the film. Do you find any particular sequence heart tugging? Pavanjandhyala (talk) 01:48, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- Me too! I was about to praise the acting of the brother's father as he was mentioned a lot in the comments section of the YouTube video. I'm glad you mentioned that most of the characters didn't have names, as I thought I wasn't following the plot well enough or the subtitles weren't that inaccurate! I agree that the 2:26:15 to 2:28:47 points and beyond are the most engaging and heartwarming. That was my personal favourite. Amazing film, thank you so much for sharing it with me. JAGUAR 21:20, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- Welcome Jaguar. As a reviewer said, this film may or may not inspire one and all, but it will definitely send everybody back home with a smile. It did it to me and Ssven2 back then, and now to you i suppose. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 01:04, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

Frank Jenner
Hi Jaguar,
Thank you very much for your review and support at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant FAC. The article has been promoted and I have nominated it to go up on the main page here. My new FAC is for the Frank Jenner article. If you have time to contribute to the discussion, your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

- Hi Neelix. Congratulations on another FA! Jenner sounds like an interesting fellow. I'll be happy to leave some comments shortly. JAGUAR 16:19, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
I see you have listed this film as the top favourite in the film section of your 90s kid userpage. Any plans on taking it to GA? — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 10:54, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- I'd love to, Ssven! Unfortunately for the question though, I've never actually contributed to a film GA before and would be lost. I'll need to find some production notes and more info on development before I start expanding it, but hell yes, that would be the first film article I'll ever take to GAN. Space Jam is the culmination of all things 90s - the music, style, characters, actors, and Michael Jordan for crying out loud! It's just one massive trip down memory lane. It means something special to me as well because it was released the year I was born. The Wind in the Willows (1995 film) comes at a close second for being my favourite childhood film, honestly every frame of the film is a beautiful masterpiece. Sadly it got taken down from YouTube recently... JAGUAR 16:24, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- No need to worry. You have a worthy friend in the form of Ssven2 to help. Also your experience in reviewing film articles may come in handy. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 16:26, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- That would be great, some guidance would really help me! I suppose that the question of reliable sources for films are more lenient than they are for video games, so I'll start searching. JAGUAR 16:43, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- You can ask Dr. Blofeld to help. He is very experienced in film-related articles. Though i believe in your skills, i suggest you to get the article c/ed as it is your first film-related attempt. BTW did you watch Seethamma Vakitlo...? Don't mind if i'm being too repetitive, as it is something close to my heart in the recent times and i want the associated ones in its attaining of GA status except Miniapolis to watch it. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 16:50, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- I'm three-quarters of the way through the film at the moment (about 1:44). For me my favourite part of the film so far is the acting. The actors are so natural and it feels like a real-life family! The subtitles weren't accurate but it really isn't a problem as I can still understand the dialogue (and more importantly the emotions). Beautiful countryside by the way! I'll have to tell you more once I've finished watching it. I might ask Dr. Blofeld when I get to it, even though I really don't see Space Jam being on his great films list (though Roger Ebert liked it)! JAGUAR 22:03, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Ebert usually lists films with 4/4 ratings to his great films list. Space Jam is 3.5/4, so it just about misses the cut. I really don't blame for being on the minority side of the Rotten Tomatoes rating. Space Jam's one of my favourites too. Damn, that opening sequence with the "I believe I can fly" song and the boy playing little Michael, classic! Looks like he really loved to Slam Jam. It would be ideal to purchase an autobiography of Michael Jordan that explains how WB picked him for the role. Sources on the VFX and animation too could be great. There's even an official website on your userpage. You can use that. — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 23:54, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
You can add info/references about the film here. — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 06:31, 9 October 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, the whole movie is a classic! I love almost every scene. It's essentially a time machine and the pinnacle of all things "cool". Nowadays children don't have an attention span, which is sad. Thank you for you help, Ssven! I'm going to get writing the article this week. The 1996 website has the distinction of being one of the oldest untouched websites on the internet (I had the list somewhere, but I can't find it). JAGUAR 22:33, 9 October 2015 (UTC)

Thiruvilaiyadal Copy Edit
As a member of the Guild of Copy Editors, I am currently editing this article as requested by Kailash29792. I note that you too are editing the text. If you intend to continue with your edits - many of which simply reverted what I have done and are grammatically incorrect, I will advise the GOCE that I am discontinuing my edit. Please let me know your intentions. Thank you.Twofingered Typist (talk) 20:41, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry about that Twofingered Typist, I didn't realise. I thought I'd pick up editing the article tonight as this my first time I've logged on since yesterday. You can continue with the copyediting, it's fine! I'll let Kailash know that I was late to the show and I'll still offer help once you've finished editing the article. Regards JAGUAR 21:06, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- By the way I didn't make grammatical errors. I edit in large bursts and when I clicked "save" to see that it was an edit conflict, I thought it got wiped so I gave up for the time being. JAGUAR 21:14, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- Got your message, I guess what you did somehow wiped out everything I had done. I "reverted" what the article shows were your edits, and mine have now been restored. I'll carry on with the edit tomorrow. These edit "conflicts" can be very confusing! RegardsTwofingered Typist (talk) 21:17, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- Twofingered Typist and Jaguar, both your edits are fine and can stay. But remember, I hold no responsibility as I legitimately put a GOCE request, not knowing who will edit, and did not even request anyone personally to edit it. Kailash29792 (talk) 02:47, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thamizhan1994 actually asked that I edit it ... not that it matters. I'll carry on as time allows.Twofingered Typist (talk) 13:04, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir
Can I interest you in another Bach cantata, Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir, BWV 38? The infobox is on the talk, the references are scattered all over the article, sorry for the inconvenience. I would like to see it on DYK on 25 October. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:56, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- I'll be happy to take it. Hope you are well. JAGUAR 19:07, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- Good question. The choice of cantata title doesn't suggest wellness, but is only due to the sequence. When I wrote the article on the underlying hymn I chose it intentionally, to cry out for distress about an editor driven away by people thinking he was a sock. A bit of that sadness is still there. I managed then (with help) to have the hymn appear in the same DYK set as his lead hook, see Wikipedia:Recent additions/2011/July#14 July 2011 ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:24, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
What??
I never even posted on Blofeld's talk page [1] so what are you talking about?? Blofeld was attacking me again on his talk page and an admin warned him to stop or he would be blocked. I had no part in any of that on Blofelds page. Caden cool 20:10, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- I was referring to the ANI discussion. It seems that it will only do more bad than good (as with all ANI discussions), and Dr. Blofeld is quite happy to let this go, so I think the best option would be to leave this be. Chillum (HighInBC) seems to be happy to let this go too. JAGUAR 20:12, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- Here is where Blofeld continued to attack me [2] and you will see the admin warning him to stop. Caden cool 20:15, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- I read it, but shortly after that he said he was willing to let it go. I'm only trying to help diffuse the situation. I'm sure Blofeld only wants to continue working with content and other involved admins would be sure to disengage. JAGUAR 20:18, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

Please go back and modify your post on blofelds page because it is misleading towards me and gives a false impression. Caden cool 20:20, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- I don't understand how it created a false impression, but I tweaked it slightly to say I was referring to the ANI discussion. I thought it was already clear, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt. JAGUAR 20:22, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- Your original post was made to look like you were referring to blofelds talk page, which was both misleading and false, since i never even posted on his talk page. Caden cool 20:26, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- OK, I've altered my comment. Now we can let this all go. JAGUAR 20:29, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for altering your post but next time please be more careful with your posts, because you can cause great damage to an innocent editor without realizing it. Caden cool 20:45, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- Sigh. JAGUAR 20:49, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- I gave you good advice and you reply with "sigh"?. Wow!!! Caden cool 20:53, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I shouldn't have replied. I'm very happy that we're all getting along and that everybody is willing to let this go. It's just that I wouldn't proclaim innocence as everyone knows the intention of the ANI discussion was to give both sides ammunition to attack each other, and I stand by my decision of closing it before it got out of hand. There are a dozen WP policies for this. It could have ended up with you or Blofeld getting blocked. Caden, I trust you to let this go and bid you good day. It happens to the best of us. JAGUAR 20:58, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

- I was talking about your misleading false post about me and not ANI. You chose to write a misleading false post about me and I was trying to point it out to you that misleading false posts can be very damaging. If you can't see that then I dont know what else to say. Since you are obessed with ANI, all i have to say is that i was trying to get the long time abuse of blofeld to stop. You closing it did not help because i have been the victim of blofeld and schrocat and their friends for close to a year now. If you think they're are just going to suddenly stop attacking me, well then you're dreaming. Caden cool 21:19, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- Stop shit-stirring!! I detest anything to do with ANI. I have been trying to help you with this situation and I've wrote nothing misleading. Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Pssst you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. - Hi Jaguar. I've noticed you have a few GA nominations. I have three current nominations myself. Just throwing it out there, if you take a look at mine i'd be happy to review the rest of yours. By all means if my nominations are not up to scratch please point out anything wrong with them as I will be doing likewise. But no pressure if you don't have the time or otherwise aren't interested. Btw I was looking over some of your articles i've reviewed in the past and I couldn't help but notice that Jungle Strike has a problem in the reference section – two references have the same name. Cheers. Freikorp (talk) 14:54, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Freikorp, long time no see! Thanks for pointing out the ref error in Jungle Strile, I've just fixed it. I'll be happy to take your reviews and I'm glad that somebody would finally be willing to at least review some of mine. I think I've gone overboard with nominating various 80s games at GAN, but once you have the sources in front of you it actually becomes satisfying to write. JAGUAR 15:01, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
- Haha I know exactly what you mean. I've written several articles purely because I bought source for a different article then found enough information in said source to write a different article. I wrote Mya (program) from scratch after buying a book that I initially used as a source for the article The Fifth Element. Anyway i'm glad we are trading reviews. If you get to Isabelle Eberhardt just wanted to say I am aware the 'Life in north Africa' section is undesirably long, the issue is I can't figure out a way to divide it into sub-sections. Looking forward to reviewing your next nomination. :) Freikorp (talk) 23:13, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

Edit notice at Zimbabwe
Hi Jaguar, I saw you changed the edit notice at Template:Editnotices/Page/Zimbabwe from SA English to British English today. Under what basis do you say the English used in Zim has more ties to British English than South African English? Britain only granted independence in 1980, but Rhodesia was never run directly from London (apart from during an interim period in 1979–80) and so far as I know the closer cultural and linguistic relation, so far as the English language in Zimbabwe goes, has always been South Africa. A quick look on Google books reveals a few sources apparently backing that impression up.
- Accents of English: Volume 3: Beyond the British Isles (1982): "The accent of local-born native speakers of English in Zimbabwe (formerly Rhodesia) appears to be generally similar to South African. As far as I am aware, it has not been systematically studied."
- So Far and No Further!: Rhodesia's Bid for Independence During the Retreat from Empire 1959–1965 (2005): "Not surprisingly, the accent of the whites, with its flat vowel sounds, was that of the Cape not England."
- World Englishes: Critical Concepts in Linguistics, Volume 2 (2006): "The historical dependence of Zambia and Zimbabwe on South African entrepreneurship ... can still be felt in the form of the long language-political shadow of South Africa; the emphasis on English in Zambia and Zimbabwe, in contrast to its macro-sociolinguistic potential, can be explained as a backwash effect of apartheid (language) policy in South Africa."
- International English: A guide to the varieties of Standard English (2013): "The Zimbabwean English of the native anglophone population resembles South African English very closely. Native English-speakers make up less than 1 per cent of the total population of 11 million."
Do you think we could possibly look at perhaps changing the edit notice back to South African English? Cheers, — Cliftonian (talk) 18:12, 25 October 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Cliftonian, upon looking at it again I think it's best to revert to the South African spelling template. The reason why I reverted the template to the British English editnotice is because I was aware that Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) gained independence in 1980, and I considered anything post-1980 to be 'contemporary'. I (mistakenly) thought that it had more ties to the UK due to it being a former colony, but I now realise that South Africa has more ties to the country now, rendering it irrelevant. I think that no matter what the ties are to the country, the native anglophone population is more important. I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused - I did have a look at the 2013 discussion but I think I acted too hastily. I've reverted the template back to the South African editnotice. Regards JAGUAR 18:19, 25 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick and polite reply and the swift action, Jaguar, I appreciate it. Cheers and I hope you have a great end to the weekend. — Cliftonian (talk) 18:26, 25 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi, not sure if you're on a break as you said but can you review this one for GA? It looks a very good article and has been in the queue since September.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:25, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
