Modern Warfare 2 - Safehouse

Why do you insist on leaving incorrect information in the plot summary. If you disagree with my revision then revise it yourself, but don't just put wrong information to make up for the lack of information. I don't feel it is noteworthy to include that. If you do feel that way then make the edit yourself. --Austin de Rossi (talk) 18:13, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

I did rewrite it. Read the text itself. I simply "undid" your edit so that it would catch your eye and you'd check to see if it was accurate enough. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 18:17, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Don't worry in the least.

Believe me, I have completely blown gaskets in far worse ways than you just did. Besides, the guy was a troll, pure and simple. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 03:54, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Absolutely, positively certain. We're only human. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 03:56, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
You bet. This project needs more good editors like you. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 04:01, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
I've taken a few walks from the computer this evening, the IP really got nasty after a bit. My suggestion is to just simply ignore him right now, and clear his page tomorrow or the next day. Always good to starve the WP:TROLL when they're growling for attention! Ravensfire (talk) 05:05, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
(ec)My two cents - I share your contempt for purposefully obnoxious editors such as this collection of IPs, and am impressed by your courtesy in "self-reporting". I started out believing, no matter how hard its behavior made it, that the IP meant well but was frustrated by the WP process. After his holiday-eve meltdown, I've concluded that it is just a troll out for "lulz!", as they say. I suspect he'll end up being blocked from editing his Talk page soon, for his continued, incredibly offense invective. I'd let him finish flaming out there on his own - he's hanging himself, so to speak. Best regards, and Happy Thanksgiving (assuming you're in the western hemisphere). Must set the alarm to get up to start the cooking - doing a Turducken again this season - tasty but oodles of work. Kindest & sincerest regards, --4wajzkd02 (talk) 05:11, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Star Trek: Elite Force II (Unlock-able content)

Could you please state how it could be made more "encyclopaedic". And I quite disagree with "Unneeded in it's current form.", perhaps it is unsuitable to wikipedia standards but "Unneeded" sounds so unpleasant and wasted :( . Help me improve it :) Chrissstrahl (talk) 23:41, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

My apologies for the wording. I think I struggled to get the edit summary to fit. The hidden starships should be mentioned in the article and, after looking to see where the best place would be, I noticed that they already are at the bottom of the gameplay section. The numbers of starships required to unlock each level, however, is not fitting for an encyclopaedia (unless somehow contained within prose unintrusively). I can't remember what the hidden levels are, but I do think that they deserve a mention, especially the top-down one. If you would like, we could try to collaborate on adding that in by working on it within our userspaces and editing it together until it's ready to go into the article. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 00:47, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Jadefalcon, I just wanted to thank you for helping out answering questions on my talk page. These sometimes build up, so it's very useful to have an extra (knowledgeable) pair of eyes checking up on it and replying. It's much appreciated. Cheers :-) Marek.69 talk 00:10, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Why are you in mourning? :( Malke 2010 (talk) 04:13, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Frankly, why do you think? A close friend of my girlfriend died and it hit me too because it hurt her. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 04:16, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Err... thanks? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 12:55, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Uh, well, it's like this, if you care about someone to the point that you can feel their pain, that means you have an understanding on the same level they're on, and when we connect with each other that way, it gives us comfort like no other thing on the earth can do. . .it's called empathy and for some people, it's a rare gift. And I quote (though from whom, I know not):
We ply blue skies with flashing eyes--
Look up all foes and watch us soar!
And when you hear our piercing cries,
Know that death has come to your door!
Huddle in the shadows and tremble with fear;
Your day of reckoning is so very near!
See us descend in brilliant sunlight?
Emeralds--all, so deadly in flight!
And battle though you surely will,
your defeat is not in doubt;
Your weak resistance spurs us on--
hear our victorious shout!
Was that song enough? There's a few more I can do... --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 21:13, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

LOL, I'll pass on the message at dinner. But considering how the Obamas regard the British, I wouldn't count on surrender from this administration. In the meantime, please accept the apologies of all Americans for the cheesy gifts the Obamas gave to the Browns, for touching the Queen, for sticking it to the British in Afghanistan, and for the all around dissing the Obamas are giving our beloved British cousins. We do still love of all of you. Oh, no, please don't throw away our Special Relationship over Gordon. We don't really care for him. . .it's the embarrassment of the cheap marine helicopters from the cheesy WH gift shop Michelle gave the Brown children, especially after Mrs. Brown cleared out Topshop for the Obama girls. OMG, pretend we don't know Michelle. And btw, just why did all of you elect Mr. Brown anyway?"Malke 2010 (talk) 19:33, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
We didn't elect him, that's the whole bloody problem. When Tony Blair left his position, Brown simply took over. Thank god he wasn't smart enough to call a general election when things were still on Labour's side. If he had, he'd be in power for even longer. And before you ask why we elected Tony Blair, I don't know that either. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 19:56, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Ah the vagaries of a parlimentary government. . .well, everybody here (Santa Monica) was out of their minds on election night when Charles Gibson said, "Barack Obama is officially the president-elect." Yes, it is virtually certain that these are all the same (stupid) editor. But he gets blocked as soon as he creates another account, and all of them are autoblocked as well. This is, in my opinion, trolling. As he has not, as far as I can see, actually vandalised anywhere, to ask for a checkuser analysis with a view to a range block would, in my personal view, be an over-reaction. But please feel free to consult the other admin who has blocked the other accounts, or indeed to discuss it with a checkuser yourself. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 22:14, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Please do not feel that I am minimising your opinion; you are quite right in your comment regarding the likelihood of this guy starting all the accounts you mention. I was marely saying that he opens an account, we block it, nothing else happens. If he were to edit from the accounts he opens, then further action would certainly be necessary. But he seems to get his fix just be opening the account - and OK, I get mine by blocking it. As far as the thread title is concerned, the only obvious comment to make is that I can spell the name of the male genitalia, whereas he apparently cannot. This may give some insight into his psyche. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 22:26, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Look at the thread title. There should be a little grey line underneath that, spanning the screen. Follow that to the right edge and there should be a little link saying [edit]. Your recent edits to User_talk:68.28.155.122 could give Wikipedia contributors the impression that you may consider legal or other "off-wiki" action against them, or against Wikipedia itself. Please note that this is strictly prohibited under Wikipedia's policies on legal threats and civility. Users who make such threats may be blocked. Not really, IP. Thejade's comment, while perhaps inappropriate, does not constitute a legal threat. @Kate (talk) 06:07, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
Hmm... after re-reading my comment, I guess I can see how it would be inappropriate, but I take cases of stalking, whether in real life or on Wikipedia, very seriously. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 06:19, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
Understandable, but speaking as someone who has received several death threats on Wikipedia, what you said was quite mild. ;) It might, however, be prudent to refactor your comment. Though I'll leave that up to you. @Kate (talk) 06:22, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
As I said on my editor review, I don't alter my comments if I've made a mistake. Makes me feel like I've got something to hide... which I suppose I do, but hiding it would make it worse in my opinion. However, since they will be blocked if they continue, I was only restating what the warning said, if in a more sarcastic manner (and now that I think about it, probably exaggerating a bit, since it may be a dynamic IP), and therefore wouldn't be anywhere near the top of my list entitled "stupid comments to undo" when measured against the incoherent rage I mentioned in my editor review. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 06:34, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Re: Vandalism

Replied on my talk page. *Pepperpiggle**Sign!* 22:22, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for replying to my message contesting deletion under the category of "unambiguous advertising". I have read the guidelines you referred to and was very careful to follow correct formatting and refrain from any opinions negative or positive, in order to remain neutral and informative. I've actually read them through because this must be my third attempt at publishing the article (I'm really trying and am confident that this latest submission is within the guidelines and spirit of Wikipedia).

To be honest, I'm honestly sad to say that I'm losing faith in Wikipedia. I thought it was for everyone, for anyone, to share any neutral information that allowed people to find out more (about more stuff), in one place.

Well, there is so much unwarranted negativity and red tape that it feels like it's just not worth it. I feel that I should be telling everyone how contributing within the guidelines of Wikipedia (as I have done) is a big waste of time (I don't want to... but that's how I feel).

This is very frustrating. Could you please actually tell me how that page qualified as unambiguous advertising? Because if not, then shouldn't it be undeleted?

When someone has put hard work into creating a totally neutral and informative page, I don't understand how an admin can delete it without providing even a single specific and referenced reason. And without a chance for meangingful discussion. How can we possibly help the community to grow within the guidelines and spirit of Wikipedia and keep in check anyone who might otherwise impede it's growth and good nature (making unwarranted claims and imposing unfair penalties on honest contributors).

I feel that I'm trying to make an honest and valuable contribution and that at present I'm surrounded by bullies who answer to no-one. Is that the spirit under which Wikipedia was created or is supposed to be administered?

Wikipedia:CSD#G11 "Note that simply having a company or product as its subject does not qualify an article for this criterion."

--Aj robo (talk) 00:48, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

I understand how you feel. It's something I'm seeing more and more often on Wikipedia (and recent news states that forty-nine thousand editors are leaving a year). I think one thing that might be an idea to enforce is to force editors to make X amount of edits to articles before they create their own. That would help to facilitate a better understanding of policy and less antagonism when articles are deleted for violating it (as well as the obvious lack of vandals). The reason is it classed as advertising at the moment is due to a lack of sources saying how it is notable (generally, the official website of a company is not a good idea for a source due to bias). As I said, search Google for reliable sources mentioning the company (mostly newpapers, as far as I know (I don't generally go in for business-related articles)). I believe I spotted a few likely sources you could use and, with a better knowledge of the company, you should be able to find some more yourself. Finally, we are not trying to bully you as a whole. While some editors have become jaded by the amount of vandalism they see and never assume good faith, the majority of us recognise that editors may simply be new and unlearned rather than attempting to cause trouble. Wikipedia needs to have reliable sources on everything it says, otherwise we're nothing in the eyes of the world. Therefore, we can be overly concerned about it sometimes (though it is almost never to abuse new users (and if it is, the abuser is punished for it), but to protect Wikipedia as a whole). It can be a difficult starting process, but keep with it. Try to edit other articles first, learn from mistakes there. Good luck. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 01:03, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Why does it keep getting undeleted and then deleted again? I have added additional references and assigned it a category, etc. The other pages I've seen on ERP Packages don't have any references to sources other than themselves. I have put other sources / references on the article as suggested, but it got deleted after I did what you said. Why? --Aj robo (talk) 01:25, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you're talking about here, sorry. Clear Objective hasn't yet been deleted and Clear Enterprise is only in the deletion log once. As for the other ERP articles, could you give me some links to them? I'll check them out and see if there's anything you haven't done or, if it comes to that, tag them for advertising as well. Sorry, but, as I said, I don't normally tread into this sort of article. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 01:32, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
I'm talking about the Clear Enterprise page. It keeps getting deleted and undeleted. Can you please take a look who might be doing this? Note: Additional references were added. Page loaded less than a minute ago with cleared cache: "Clear Enterprise

That's the deletion log you saw. The link you gave me on Clear Objective... umm... (scratches head) Let me get back to you on that one. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 02:05, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
I see now. You recreated it under "Clear enterprise," with no capital 'e'. That's likely what's confusing the server. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 02:06, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
I didn't mean to. Is there an easy way to fix that up, so all links for that page go to that page? --Aj robo (talk) 03:00, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
You can ask someone (probably an admin) to move the pages, but I wouldn't know how to. I'd concentrate on getting it up to scratch for now. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 03:01, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
I've posted a reply for you on the discussion page of Clear Objective. Basically, you can see that the company and software product are notable, so why is it so hard to approve the company and product information pages? Also I've listed pages from other companies in the same field who have articles linking and referencing only to themselves, but which have been left without contest. Is it a different rule for one person, to the next person, to the next person? What's going on? --Aj robo (talk) 03:34, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Jade, at the very least you were the only admin replying to me and giving me anything constructive to work with, please don't give up on me yet, I really want to get this thing nailed. --Aj robo (talk) 04:51, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Sorry for taking so long to reply. It was two in the morning, I hadn't slept for over a day and I wanted to get my sleep cycle sorted out. And I'm not an admin, just a nosy person who gets involved in things I have no business with. :) Some editors don't like new articles by new users and rate them more harshly than others (there was an experiment run a while back, and you can read the results here). It is important to note, however, that it all depends on the editor who tagged the article (most probably don't even check to see who created the article. I don't if I feel that the article needs to be gotten rid of). I'll give the Clear Objective reply a read and respond there. It may be a short while, since I'm about to have lunch. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 15:22, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

An easier way to find your IP would be to log out, and then click this link, which will take you to the userpage for your IP address. Prodego talk 02:11, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

The Wikipedia Signpost: 30 November 2009

Hey jade. I've noticed your posts on several video game articles I frequently edit. I just wanted to say thanks for all the work you do to L4D and L4D2, along with every other article you edit. If possible, I was thinking about nomination you for adminship. That is, assuming that I'm able to as a non-admin. --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 other crap 22:10, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Haha nevermind. I looked at your review page and noticed that being an admin is "something [you're] nowhere near ready for." Scratch the admin part of that last comment. --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 other crap 22:29, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Phew, thank god for that. I was going to link you there so you could see my epic failure at keeping cool in a dispute, which is just one reason why I'm not ready (others would be my recent lack of article edits that haven't been reverting vandalism and my sheer lack of edits full stop. With only four and a half thousand and not even a year on Wikipedia, I doubt that's enough). I appreciate the thought, but I really don't think I'm ready right now. But seriously, three people have now talked to me about adminship. This is getting creepy now... >.> --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 22:41, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Haha my apologies. And I only have 3,200+ edits and I've been on Wikipedia since March. However, I made 4 edits in March and zero in both April and May. And sorry about making you feel creeped out haha. As I said (explicitly), I'm kind of new. I'm quite surprised that you've only been on Wikipedia for under a year: it seems like you are quite an established member with a lot of knowledge of the site. Then again, who said that isn't true? Haha. Again, sorry about the adminship mention, I'll be sure to remember that it freaks you out. --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 other crap 22:45, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
I like the idea of adminship, I'll admit. It's just the timing of it. I spend my life trying to be ignored and now people decide one after the other "let's see if he can wield these tools effectively." Little overwhelming. I've noticed you around every so often and I think you have a good head on your shoulders. As xeno said to me, that's really all you need for adminship. I agree, but I still don't feel ready for that kind of responsibility (yet oddly I want children as soon as possible. My brain is a weird brain). --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 22:51, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Can't lie: I'd say children are a responsibility that takes adminship on Wikipedia and kicks it's ass out of it's mouth (what the hell did I just say?). So I completely agree with the fact that you're brain works in interesting ways haha. Luckily for me, I haven't been pressured with adminship in the slightest. Which is good. For similar reasons to you. However, I'm not rushing for kids whatsoever (I'm 13). --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 other crap 23:00, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Heh. I have no idea what you just said either. xD And I knew I wanted children when I was twelve I think (and I'm a man on top of that). --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 23:13, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Well I'm thinking about kids, but it seems to far in the future. And I just noticed that we got ridiculously off topic. That's great. Out of curiosity, why do you have a Fable III subpage when a Fable III page already exists? Or did you make it before the real article was made? --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 other crap 23:16, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Because I'm a moron. xD I had to work mostly offline for a long time because my only internet access was at a library. When Fable III got an article in OXM, after I'd finished drooling, I wrote a Fable III article, intending it to be my first article (last I'd heard, the page had been deleted). Then I found out it had been up for about two months. (facepalm) I put the page I'd made there and asked xeno's opinion on it. He told me to copy-paste it over the original, so I did. Since then, I've kept the page as a) a reference for anyone if they want the original before any alterations and b) out of laziness stopping me from making two clicks on Twinkle. :P --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 23:34, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Notification

You know I can't post in multiple places and read threads simultaneously. I posted a thread and soon afterwards notified a party that might not have been aware of the broader discussion. If you look at that that editor's talk page you will see that John Carter posted notifying them AFTER I had already done so, yet repeated his accusation that I hadn't informed them. It's an especially outrageous claim as it came after he had accused me of not informing him of a thread that he had informed me of and was an active participant in. If that's not an absurd and abusive accusation to make I don't know what is. But it's the type of thing that I've seen repeatedly from John Carter. I feel for the other editors who suffer that kind of abuse, but for myself I'd ask that he just steer clear of me so I don't have to put up with that sort of nonsense. Cheers. I hope this helps clear things up. Please let me know if you have any questions. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:07, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

This guy seems to be giving you hell. I'll try to help you get rid of his repeatedly added, and unsourced, material. If not, I think we need to get him blocked. --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 other crap 02:19, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Actually, no, I'm fine with him. He found a source and I'm trying to help him rewrite it. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 02:20, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Oh. Then I'll remove that last warning. Or should I? He seems very stubborn and not willing to listen to your reasoning. I don't know. --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 other crap 02:25, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Might I ask who Aj robo is? I don't see him anywhere. Then again, I don't look very thoroughly. However, I can't say that I can completely relate. No Russian

Can you really do No Russian without firing on the police? On any difficulty level? I own the game but someone's borrowing it at the moment... Evercat (talk) 20:46, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Pretty sure I can do it. It'll take a long time with those damn shields and you may have to act as bait a bit, but you can hypothetically get through all of the game (barring the level where Roach and Ghost die, door breaches or any other sections I may have forgotten) with no enemies killed yourself. I'll have a go tomorrow (on Recruit, obviously :P). --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 20:52, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Well. I'd like to mention in the article that abstaining from attacking civilians is sensible in a way that abstaining from attacking the police isn't... Evercat (talk) 21:04, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
I don't know... I'm still unconvinced. It may be sensible, but it's possible with a lot of games. I don't think it's notable. I'd say it'd be best to bring it up on the talk page for consensus (giving them this thread and my diff as a reference). I've reverted edits like that quite a few times before and was planning on asking for consensus next time it appeared. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 21:08, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
I think it's relevant that the player gets no penalty at all, not even a time cost, for not firing on civilians, but this can't be said for the police. I'm not sure what you mean when you say it's possible in a lot of games - most games don't put you on the side of people who are firing on civilians. P.S. I don't mind reverts as a way of initiating a discussion. :) Evercat (talk) 21:13, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
By "lots" of games, I mean that I can run through most of Halo without expending a round (343 Guilty Spark and The Library being the major, major exceptions). It may not have any civilian shooting, but you can potentially make it into a First-Person Marathon with Guns game with some patience. As for the time cost... hmm... more willing to let if be put it when you say it that way, but I'd still say you should ask for talk page consensus. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 21:21, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
I believe it's possible, but you need to be a speedrunner (and a lucky one too). If you go too long without killing someone, Makarov says "I have no patience for cowards" and they all turn on you. It's possible to get past all the cops though and, with skill and a bit of luck, you can turn the cops around so Makarov's men can fire onto their unprotected bodies. However, I lacked the patience to try harder when there are more interesting things to do (like shooting back). --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 00:51, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Why do IPs hate you?

This guy is the second IP in two days that has been a total dick to you. You try to tell them about rules, and they respond, in this case, with: "Well fuck you. Wikipedia is a service to the public, free and unassuming and only there to provide information. Not to spoil the end of games you ignorant proletariat fool. Reconsider your rather silly revert." What a douche. He doesn't know what he's talking about. --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 other crap 22:49, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

you should check it out, no installing! it's fun WP:Igloo A8UDI 12:54, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
I've come to the same conclusion, but it's very cathartic reverting everything someone's ever done and only seconds after they've done it (for major vandals, I keep an eye on their contributions for about half an hour and obsessively refresh). Couldn't do that last night though. Twelve and a half minutes of server lag? o.O Does Huggle automatically warn people? And I may try out Igloo, but Twinkle and my rollback privileges keep me reasonably content. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 12:57, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
OH MY GOD! I know! what the hell was up with that? It was lagging like hell and the Blade Runner article was being, almost literally, slaughtered with vandalism, like it just would not stop. Yes huggle, warns people automatically to-- and reports them after the 4th warning. It's a lot faster :) A8UDI 12:59, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
Wow... that article really was under heavy fire. Yay for page protection? My theory is that a server kitten died and the others were in mourning. :P Either that or someone pushed the button. I may give Huggle/igloo a try one day. Which do you prefer so far? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 13:05, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
Nevr used huggle, theres the crazy process for macs with all this installing and downloading nonsense. So I like Igloo-- it'll take you 1 minute to set up but you need to request access from User: Aje... something like that haha you'll see on the page. A8UDI 13:07, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

That (admittedly ever-so-slightly 'off') warning is to the IP. I had a think about it and would say it's (only just) the right side of policy given his previous antics. I was literally just reading through the history of his previous IP talk and was thinking how calmly you dealt with him there. Let's just hope he isn't the copyright owner or we'd look like WP:DICKS. Regards, raseaCtalk to me 22:32, 4 December 2009 (UTC).
(laughs) No worries, I just had to check that one. :P And if he is the copyright owner, I'm losing patience. Phantomsteve and I dealt with the last time he appeared (if he's identical) and I began to lose patience with him by the end (and almost called him out on stalking. Somehow he got his mitts on a forum post that from a thread I don't even think exists anymore. It was creepy). --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 22:39, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
Wow, that's not cool. Although I guess it's a bit more interesting than the usual 'JOHNNY WAS HERE' vandalism they usually throw up, it's always fun to have something new to deal with. I must admit that on the way down to this section I noticed you do seem to attract the vandals! No hard feelings, warm regards raseaCtalk to me 22:44, 4 December 2009 (UTC).

Aromachologist Entry Clarification

Hi, there,

Thank you so much for your quick reply on Aromachologist. I really don't know how I got to the wikipedia:aromachologist page - as a newbie, I am working with the help of a manual and thought I was creating my own personal subpage. The steps I took were: 1. logging in 2. at personal user page, I clicked 'edit this page" 3. created a link to the subpage I was going to create. I did a brief edit summary and saved it. Perhaps I mangled steps 2 & 3. Could you tell me how I can avoid this problem for future entries? I am using Wikipedia The Missing Manual which was pretty good in guiding me through the more intricate steps. Thank you so much again. Kealani11 (talk) 22:42, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for explaining what you did. I've just created a personal user page for you here. What you do is go to your userpage and, in the address bar type in after your username "/[page name here]" (i.e. "/sandbox"). I've saved you the trouble this time, but a sandbox is a useful thing to have. It's your own personal page for editing tests and no-one (or very few people) will see it if you mess something up. If you don't want to create a sandbox yourself, feel free to use mine here (don't worry about deleting the mess of test signatures. Their usefulness is long gone). --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 23:02, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
Great! Thank you so much for your help! I guess all newbies get lost - but I shall from now on be happily shoveling in my sandbox!Kealani11 (talk) 23:10, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

But I don't wanna get into a whole WP:3RR thing with him. Since you're like totally clueful, I wonder if you might offer advice here. :) Crafty (talk) 04:21, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Great Green Bird. I could get used to that. :P Honestly, I'm not certain. I think there should be a photo of a real white person (or many white people) on the page (compare to Black people). However, as you said in one edit summary, it seems a vanity picture, possibly just to show his friends "hey, look, I'm on Wikipedia!" I'd continue to revert, to be honest, and start warning him for image-related vandalism if he continues. Report him to AIV if it becomes too bad or you believe that none of his edits are in good faith (you caught me right when I was about to quit and sleep, so I haven't checked his other edits yet). I'll have a better look tomorrow if he's still around. In the meantime, night night. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 04:29, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

I certainly understand the impulse that led you to tag the above-captioned article for speedy deletion, but I couldn't in conscience find that it met the "spam" criteria; I've replaced it with a prod tag and I will keep an eye on it for potential AfD in case the prod tag is removed. My apologies for substituting my judgment; if you have any questions or problems, I'm at your service. Accounting4Taste:talk 18:13, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Oh, damn. I thought I already had prodded it. I'd noticed his other articles get prodded and I thought I'd changed mine to match. Obviously not and thanks for correcting my mistake. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 18:17, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Glad we're both on the same page here that it warrants deletion; we'll share the responsibility to keep an eye on the article, I trust. I didn't think it was worth a redirect since I can't imagine that someone would logically type "Guide To Earthquakes" into the "Find" field. Accounting4Taste:talk 18:57, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
You wouldn't think a lot of things would happen but... (shrugs) Any page I nominate for deletion is put on my watchlist until it a) is deleted or b) isn't deleted. So I'll help keep an eye on things. What happens if they remove the prod? Do we nominate it for AfD? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 19:03, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I think AfD would be the way to go. I noticed in the edit history that someone had changed it to a redirect early in its history (which same was reverted by the creator), but that just didn't seem logical to me. I'll also have it on my watchlist and will AfD it if the prod tag gets removed, or whichever of us notices it first can do the honours. Accounting4Taste:talk 19:07, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Uploading Screenshots

{{helpme}} Can someone help explain step-by-step (as you would to a five-year-old) what the heck I need to do to upload screenshots of games, so I can help out with this request? Also, how do I take a low-resolution screenshot as this page tells me to do? Usually, I just press the Print Screen button, so I don't have any choice about the quality. So, someone help? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 01:42, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

I may not be much help, but I press print screen, paste into paint, save, then upload to photobucket or GIMP and crop/ edit as needed.  IShadowed  ✰  01:56, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Well im using a mac, so i might not be able to help you. but here is what i have for you:
  1. hit print screen
  2. Open Microsoft Paint. To do this, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint. Click inside the white part of the screen.
  3. Go to the Edit menu and click Paste or you can press and hold "Ctrl" and tap V. Then you may crop if you like.
  4. Click File > Save As. In the box that pops up, change the "Save As Type" to PNG or JPG. Type in a filename for your image. Choose a place to save, like the Desktop, and click save.
and to resize, well, if its easier I could just do it for you. Leave me a link on my talk page. For more help, you can either;
Okay thanks, I... wait a second, Macs can use Microsoft software? Huh. Didn't know that. Anyway, thanks. I'll start to take my screenshot army in the morning. Then I'll put the template back and wait for info on how to upload them. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 02:10, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Continuation

{{helpme}} Okay, I've now grabbed a picture and learnt that resizing was more obvious than I presumed it would be (see the thread this is a sub-thread of). Now to copy-paste the unanswered question from above: Can someone help explain step-by-step (as you would to a five-year-old) what the heck I need to do to upload screenshots of games, so I can help out with this request? Thank you. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 15:52, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Depends on whether the game is free or not. Let's say it's not free, then...
Tim Song (talk) 16:17, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
I presume by "whether the game is free or not," you mean is it a game like Halo 3 or a free flash game I found on an obscure site, correct? The picture I took was of Dragon Age: Origins. That's not free, as far as I know. Anyway, thank you. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 16:33, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
"Free" as in whether the game is licensed under a free license. Tim Song (talk) 16:36, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Sorry. Responded before I'd checked the links out. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 16:39, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Go to Wikipedia:Upload. Click "screenshot" in the sentence "A screenshot taken of a movie, TV program, computer game, web site, computer program, music video, or other such source". Press "Browse" to select the file on your computer that you want to upload. Next to Destination filename, type a clear, descriptive name to use for the file. Next to Summary, fill in appropriate information. This is what I suggest. Put the article name next to "Article = ". Put a clear description next to "Description = ". Next to "Source = ", put "Screenshot taken by uploader." Next to "Portion = ", put "Screenshot only, a small portion of the commercial product." If the screenshot is a lower resolution than the original game, put "Yes" next to "Low_resolution = ". Write the specific purpose of the screenshot next to "Purpose =", or something generic like "To identify and illustrate the game or program in its own article or a closely related article." Put "There is no free equivalent." next to "Replaceability" because there can't be a free equivalent of a copyrighted image like a video game screenshot. If there's other information you want to add, put it next to "other_information = ". Choose "Computer game or video game screenshot" in the box below where it says Licensing. Finally, press Upload, and you're done. Please let me know if there are any more questions. Thanks! --Mysdaao talk 16:19, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Thank you, both of you. I'll let you know how it goes. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 16:33, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks again. The image is now visible here. I'm slightly uncertain about it though. Since it is detailing a character creation tool, should I replace this with a non-resized version (which I still have) so that it is possible to read some of the customisation options? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 16:49, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
I think you should keep the image the way you uploaded it. In order to meet Wikipedia's non-free content criteria, the image must be low resolution. Also, when the image is added to Dragon Age: Origins, it will have to be a thumbnail, so the small text won't be readable in the article anyway. Please let me know if there are any more questions. Thanks! --Mysdaao talk 17:01, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Halo: Reach

The announcement trailer shows the colony Reach under attack by Covenant battleships orbiting the planet. Not a single ship is seen. I know that there are ship attacking the planet, but this sentence is false as they are not in the trailer. I won't revert again.Mikerooney (talk) 19:46, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

I actually meant the Reach talk page, but nevermind. I know that they don't show the battleships but it's definitely the "them," as the trailer said. Hmm... I can see where you're coming from, however. Perhaps a mere rewrite of the sentence rather than deleting it? Work on it here until both of us can agree? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 19:58, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Sure, maybe just saying it shows the planet under attack would be better.Mikerooney (talk) 20:03, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
What about this? "The announcement trailer shows the colony Reach, humanity's largest military production and command planet, under attack by an unknown force, referred to in the trailer as "them." In the backstory of Halo: Combat Evolved and the novels, Reach was destroyed by a Covenant fleet." --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 20:20, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

You got blocked because it's clear to everyone that you are not interested in contributing to Wikipedia. If you can find a reason for me to be blocked, by all means, tell me. Find a good enough reason and I'll report myself. However, I find it unlikely you'll find that proof. I blanked your page because of a ton of garbage on it. You, Craftyminion and myself then went into an edit war over you adding this gibberish onto your page. Then, when you got unblocked and you were allowed to edit your talk page again, you added this which the blocking admin promptly undid. Explain to me what I did wrong please? I welcome your superior judgement of the situation (if not your superior spelling). --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 15:57, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

A little feedback.

Heya, since your still on editor review, and an edit to Dragon Age: Origins caught my eye, I just thought I would give you a little poke over this diff: [3].

I wouldn't really jump to the conclusion it was vandalism, as users who do not know about the consensus on spoiler tags are usually acting in good faith in this area. Personally I wouldn't use automated tools for such borderline things, as I think a more personal non-templatey message to the user, along with a more gentle edit summary, could avoid any accidental biting. Hope this helps, thanks for your continuous efforts around Wikipedia! --Taelus (talk) 18:46, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

I know. I realised I'd clicked the wrong button but it went through and Twinkle worked a hell of a lot faster than usual so I couldn't stop it in time. As you can see on the user's talk page, I left only a Level One warning. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 18:50, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Editing My Own User Page is Not Vandalism

Please explain to me why you think it is ok for you to dictate how my user page should look...if it is not offensive and I am not vandalizing articles?

I can report your abuse of power to an admin.--71.80.121.0 (talk) 22:46, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

I am sorry for calling you a bitch. I maintain that I have the right to select which material I want on my OWN user page. If I were vandalizing articles then I could understand notes about it on my talk page. But I am NOT vandalizing articles. I am only trying to clean some junk off my user page. If and when I vandalize an article ban me. Otherwise mind your own business and let me deal with my own user page as I see fit.
I note you deleted my first message on your user page. How is that any different from what I did? I think it is every user's right to create and maintain his user page as he sees fit so long as he is not vandalizing articles, not incorporating offensive or copyright material, etc.
Please leave me alone and chase some one actually defacing an article.
Thanks,

However, reverting the warnings and the whois template on your talk page made me assume that you were the same person as the guy who posted this. However, you are not allowed to remove whois templates. You are allowed to remove warnings, but since you were removing both at the same time, I couldn't be bothered to selectively undo the edit. However, I'll assume good faith and accept that you are different. I'll be watching you, just in case, but I'll let you remove the stale warnings. Deal?

Want to adopt me? I figured I already talk to you, and you're the only person (other than Loshgoobii) that I could call a "wiki-friend". --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 23:05, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

(looks up at other three adoptees) It depends. I'm new at this and I wasn't planning on taking on any more. What exactly would you be asking about? There are some things I'm not greatly familiar with, but if I think I can manage, I'll adopt you too. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 23:19, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Mainly, how to use Twinkle. I downloaded it, and I don't get how to use it whatsoever. I guess adoption isn't really necessary. Any way you could just post a link to some guide video or explanation? I try to open it on my computer and it doesn't work. Thanks. --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13' 17:27, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
How did you instally Twinkle? Did you place the coding manually, or did you use the easy, one-button installation? And is this page on your watchlist? I don't want to bother you with useless Talkbacks. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 17:31, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Just watched it. And I did the one button installation. Should I do the manual coding? --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13' 17:35, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Nah, the manual one merely allows for a bit of customisation, but it's too complex for me. Let me set a few tests up for you. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 17:44, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Okay. Go here. I've vandalised it. Go into the history and view the diff for the IP address. You'll see three buttons above the diff: "[rollback (AGF)]," "[rollback]" and "[rollback (VANDAL)]". Click the first and you're assuming a good faith edit. The second, you're still assuming good faith, but they haven't gotten the message yet that they need to stop. The third is for clearcut cases of vandalism. First, revert the vandalism with one of the first two. You'll need to type in a message saying what they did wrong. Then, a window will appear to the IP's talk page. At the very top of the screen, you will see a button labelled "warn." Click it. Next, use the first drop-down menu to select whatever warning level you believe is suitable (for what I did, I'd usually assign a Level Two warning). Then use the second drop-down menu to select what you think is the appropriate warning (I'd say stick with vandalism, though editing tests is also possible). Since Twinkle opened the window for you, the linked article section is already filled in for you. If it isn't, type the page name in there. If you want to leave a personalised message, explaining what they did wrong in more detail, then use the big box. That's your first task. Don't worry. It's a lot simpler than it sounds. xD --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 18:07, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Ok. I installed it, and those buttons aren't appearing. Is it because I have Internet Explorer? Or do I need to download Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome or something? --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 20:38, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

← (facepalm) Yeah, I suppose that should have been my first question. xD Yes, you need Mozilla Firefox, Camino, Safari, Google Chrome or Opera for Twinkle to work. My personal preference is Firefox. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 20:46, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

(facepalm repeated to self) I had Firefox installed on my bedroom's computer, and then it crashed. Ugh. Stupid "family computer." I need a laptop. --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 20:53, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
No problem. If you can't get it running, simply request universal rollback permission. xeno is generally more than happy to give it out. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 20:58, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I have universal rollback permission :/. I just don't like it that I can't type a comment with the rollback, or identify as good faith/vandalism, without typing every internal link manually. And I've talked to xeno. He's pretty nice. --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 21:03, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Oh. Well, you can try this. Copy this coding to your equivalent page (this is presuming you're using the default monobook skin). That's supposed to let you change your rollback edit summary, but I never got time to experiment with it before I installed Twinkle, so I have no idea how it works (though it does install a "rollback summary" icon at the top of your watchlist). --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 21:48, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

← Err... whatever happened to asking me if I wanted to adopt you? O.o --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 20:22, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

I asked someone else because you said that you "weren't planning on taking on any more (adoptees)". I just left my name in the adoption list, and I got a message from Twilight Helryx offering me adoption. Don't take it personally; I just didn't think you needed another burden. --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 20:26, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Oh. Haha my bad. Well, this means less work for you, eh? But really, don't take it personally. --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 20:33, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
Don't worry, I won't. Like I said, glad you got someone to help you. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 20:34, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
On another note, how am I supposed to copy your coding again? I tried to copy/paste by editing, but it wouldn't let me. --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 20:40, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
Hmm. You should have been able to just view the source. Nevertheless copy this onto your equivalant page: "importScript('User:Mr.Z-man/rollbackSummary.js'); // allows tweaking of rollback edit summary" (without the speech marks). As I said, I haven't experimented with it. You'll have to figure it out yourself (or ask xeno, who gave it to me). --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 20:45, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

{{adminhelp}} I'm moving a ton of pages right now and I've just hit an anti-spam measure (I've moved something like 50 pages in the last half an hour). I've still got quite a few to go. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 00:26, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

I can't give you a userright, but if you tell me what pages need to be moved and why, I'll be glad to help. @Kate (parlez) 00:30, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
It's nothing major. Just moving some episodes of Star Trek: Voyager to have that in the page title to fit with the others. With respect, can no-one help out? Well, if you're sure, I have no problems helping. I'm not really doing anything productive at the moment. ;) @Kate (parlez) 00:33, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

The only thing that would work for this would be to make you an admin (in which case, WP:RFA is that way) or you can program a bot and make it do the moves (in which case, WP:BRFA is down the hall on your left). There's no userright an admin can grant you to override this limit, nor is there any a crat would give you without prior community discussion. Sorry. Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:31, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
Damn. Have to do it the slow way then (just hit the limit again). Well, I am considering RfA. Thanks anyway. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 01:34, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

May I ask why you moved "Yesterday's Enterprise"? Considering there's no reason to disambig, it seems like a bit of a waste and all. Certainly not needed by WP:DAB (and considering a lot of those Star Trek episodes should be merged anyway, if someone had the time to waste on that task...) Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 04:06, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Ditto, but re. the whole slew of page moves. Parenthetical dab text (e.g. "(Star Trek: The Next Generation)") is only necessary if there are same-named subjects also covered at Wikipedia. I'm going to start undoing your movies; it'd be great if you can lend a hand. Thanks! --EEMIV (talk) 04:09, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
... O.o... crap... I just felt that it would make a hell of a lot more sense for them all to be named "Blah (series name here)" rather than just "blah (stick a series name here if you feel like it)" Regardless of whether there is another article near the episode title, it's done now and now they all match up (thereby making it easier if someone is typing them into the search bar rather than going through the episode list). Is it really worth it to undo them all? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 04:15, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, I only particularly care about the ones I've edited (I only saw "Yesterday's Enterprise" move and assumed that you had done the same to others.) It's not that hard to undo, I just think it's unnecessary formality (which, as far as I know, isn't practiced by anybody.) Off to bed now, I'll berate you later :) Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 04:19, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
It's just I... err... I did about two hundred of them. o.O All of the TNG and VOY ones that didn't match up. Coldplay Expert did a few VOY ones too... oh, boy... I look like a considerable idiot now... --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 04:22, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Dragon Age article assessment.

Just thought I would draw your attention to this: Talk:Dragon_Age:_Origins#Article_Assessment.

George Ross

There's another George Ross (footballer) hence why I moved the original article I created to ...1943. I intend to create a new article for the older George Ross (I guess George Ross (footballer born 19th century)). I realised that the George Ross (f'baller) redirect needed to be moved as well. Eldumpo (talk) 21:54, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

There is? I didn't see one on the disambiguation page. Hmm... when did the 1943 one start playing? When did the 19th century one start playing? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 21:56, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, the 2 George Ross footballers don't appear on the general George Ross dab page, last I saw. How about you creating the article I referred to above - I can then help. Starting points are 1900 FA Cup Final, 1903 FA Cup Final and [4]. Cheers Eldumpo (talk) 22:00, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Oh, good God, no! XD! I don't touch sports at all, least of all football. I just noticed the discussion and butted in, before moving the article to a more suitable place. That's the limit of my involvement. :P Hmm... the current article on Ross... he started playing in 1960, right? Did the other Ross play at all in the 20th century? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 22:07, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
What does XD mean. Yes, the older Ross did play in 20th C (and 19th C). Do you think the proposed article name is reasonable. Sure you don't want a first crack at it - you can do a Save As based on the younger G Ross! Eldumpo (talk) 22:17, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
XD is an emoticon, used for (extreme) amusement. Hmm... when did the older Ross play their first game (outside of schoolboy stuff, obviously)? And yes, I'm sure. :P --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 22:25, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

(outdent) Not sure - probably about 1893. I will look to create the article now. Can you move the younger Ross back to 1943 and look to add hatnotes? Eldumpo (talk) 22:30, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

I'm already fiddling with it. I just wanted confirmation first. If it turns out the older Ross played before 1893, contact me and I'll fix it up. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 22:32, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
article now created, is a stub will try and find a bit more. Can you watch it against CSD!! Eldumpo (talk) 22:39, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, perhaps I wasn't too clear and appreciate you probably don't deal with football articles but the dab for 2 or more of same name is normally based on year of birth, so younger should be George Ross (footballer born 1943) and the older maybe what I said above - in the absence of me finding his year of birth. Eldumpo (talk) 22:48, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Will do. I've moved both pages again and added disambiguation notices to both them and the true disambiguation page. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 22:49, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Aww, damn. When you find his date of birth, tell me and I'll move them... again... (though I think it'd be more logical to list by the start of career). As I said, I don't generally touch sports. Yours is the first article I've edited. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 22:51, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

(outdent) sorry for any inconvenience - I'm not great with hatnotes and the like. It would be useful if I can find his birth date. Congrats on your 1st sports edit then - please keep on your watchlist for now Eldumpo (talk) 22:54, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

It is. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 23:00, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

I've found the older Ross's birth date (1869) and think I have successfully sorted all the moving and hatnotes etc. The only thing is that George Ross (footballer) is redirecting to the younger when I'm not sure if either of them enjoys primary usage, so is it best that the redirect is deleted? Eldumpo (talk) 15:39, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

In this sort of case, it links to the most notable, which I believe would be the younger one. The disambiguation notice at the top of the page will clear up any confusion. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 15:42, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

WP:ANI Conversation - Follow Up

If I understand that thread you linked to we're using an email from a voice actor as a reference for voicing a character in a video game? Assuming I'm understanding correctly points are

  1. The email unless specifically released under GFDL or Creative Commons license by the writer cannot be reproduced on wikipedia
  2. It's in no way a reliable source

It would seem to me that information cannot be included based on that reference. You need a reliable secondary source. Exxolon (talk) 20:56, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

Oh, curses. What do I do about the e-mail? And we are aware that the source is barely reliable. However, it is the only one we have. The article in question, Dragon Age: Origins, has a hidden note in the relevant section, saying, "Shale's voice actor is Geraldine Blecker, this is confirmed in the official credits, and the actor has verified this in an e-mail, (visible at User talk:Thejadefalcon/Archive 1#Dragon Age article- Shale voiceactor.). imbd does list Barry Ellis as the voice actor, but this is a mistake. In the official credits, Barry Ellis is listed under "Additional Voices"." Another source is constantly being searched for, but the coverage of the game has been a bit schizophrenic. There are at least three reliable versions of the system requirements and there's this confusion over the voice actor, as well as a few other things I believe. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 21:02, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
I removed the hidden tag from the article, since we are citing the in-game credits anyway until a good secondary source comes up. I suggest you just request the sub-page with the e-mail on it is deleted per your own request, quickest way to handle it. Since we don't really need that e-mail, deletion of it seems the best way to clean this situation up, and we can continue the waiting game for a proper list to come out. Thanks for contacting me about it, hope this helps. --Taelus (talk) 21:17, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Or just blank the segment, or have it deleted and repost the entire archive minus the e-mail in order to re-create it. I'm not a GDFL expert though. --Taelus (talk) 21:20, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

Maybe so, but I would still appreciate an answer. Especially, say... what is wrong with my signature? That was a comment very specific to me. This is an online encyclopedia - even if it is not enforced policy - to have the time and energy to create clutter is something that I disagree with - there is too much energy expended in chatter and fluff - and the there projects and part of the encyclopedia crumbling because of lack of simple slog work - have a look at overall project statistics and you will understand what I mean.
Hey also we are a few decades apart in age ( I am probably old enough to be your grandfather) and also culturally from different planets - I have a very different way of looking at the world anyways - vive la difference - you get on with your bit and ill get on with mine. ciao SatuSuro 00:45, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
So... you disagree with all custom signatures? Well, I hate to break it to you but... yours is custom too. It took a few days to create mine, but I didn't sacrifice any time I could have better used to improve Wikipedia and my signature has stayed constant since it's inception. It's not flashy or anything. It's nice, simple, unintrusive, kind of pretty to me and helps to identify me. Probably. Hence my not leaving a talkback on their page this time. I felt the need to reply in case they expect it, but not to place a talkback in case it escalated into something. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 01:14, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

A newbie question about sending message notification

Hi the jade Falcon, I have some (probably) silly questions. When I write a message for somebody (for example you, like this), do you automatically receive a notification or not? What about when I am commenting on your message by editing in the same section in my talk page (or other's, or discussion page of an article), do you automatically get the notification? Thanks! Wikislemur (talk) 14:51, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Whenever anyone other than you (or an archive bot doing its job) makes any sort of edit to your talk page, you get a message. However, you don't get one for your userpage, so put it on your watchlist, just in case it gets vandalised. And no, my comment here won't alert you. That's why we have the {{talkback}} templates, which I'll be putting on your talk page in a moment. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 14:55, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
I see :) thanks! Wikislemur (talk) 15:03, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Just in the end of the page like this? to place the notification I mean.. Wikislemur (talk) 15:16, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Obviously I did it wrong! I think this time is better Wikislemur (talk) 15:19, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
Ha! I did it! Sorry I messed up your page a bit. Wikislemur (talk) 15:20, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

F.A.G.S.

The line from CoD: MW2 you deleted was actually talking about the F.A.G.S video, not the Don't Ask, Don't Tell stuff. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 01:22, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

In that case, the line makes more sense, but in any case the whole section is fairly vague. Try to be a little more specific in the future for those of us who are slower. :) Also, I'm going to work on editing the article so that instead of having a controversy section, each controversy is mentioned in the Plot or Multiplayer section, which is the optimal format (though by no means does every article do this). XenocideTalk|Contributions 01:29, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Don't bother. There's already an article specifically for the controversies, because there's so bloody many of them. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 01:31, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Indeed, that is why the CoD 6 page itself does not need a controversies section. What I mean is that I'm going to distribute the various controversies over the article based on where they occur in the game, and then link it to the appropriate section of the main article. For example, in the portion of the plot section that talks about the "No Russian" mission, I'll insert the line, "This mission has caused some controversy over its portrayal of the massacring of innocent civilians." That way, there will be no need for the 'Controversy' section. XenocideTalk|Contributions 01:38, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Actually, this is the standard if a page has to be split. It gives an overview section and a main article for it. For instance, Characters of Halo has a separate article for the Master Chief, so they give him a quick overview on the characters page in one section and provide a link to the main article at the top of the section. I'm almost certain I've seen this done with another controversy section as well, but the name of that article eludes me right now. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 01:41, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Take a look at Q6 of the Barack Obama talk page. This is just one good article in which this method is supported. Also, take a look at the policy itself, and further the section on 'Controversy' sections. The founder of Wikipedia states that they are often the sign of poor writing. XenocideTalk|Contributions 01:51, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
In that case, my apologies. Never encountered that policy before. Go right ahead, though I'd suggest leaving a note on the talk page for the article linking to this discussion for reference and an edit summary when you change things of "See talk page". --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 01:54, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
No worries. Once I get around to actually editing it I'll include a note on the talk page as well. On most articles I wouldn't consider doing this, but as it already has its own page for controversies, and many of them are mentioned multiple times throughout the article, I felt the need to take action. XenocideTalk|Contributions 01:59, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
No problem. I learnt something new from all this and that's always good. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 02:14, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Possible vandalism

What do you think about the multiple edition by 68.33.62.20 on the page titled Fingerboard (skateboard)? I think it's pretty much bad edit and required reversion, but... am I too harsh? Thanks! Wikislemur (talk) 02:58, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Good faith, though perhaps misguided, edits. @Kate (parlez) 03:00, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
If you're not sure, best thing is to check their other contributions. Though in this case, I rollbacked (though didn't mark as vandalism) as nonsense. As Katerenka said though, misguided but possibly in good faith. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 03:02, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

I like the statement "If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make the edit, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices." Is it from a template? Wikislemur (talk) 03:10, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Twinkle adds it automatically if you use it to template warning. It's fairly simple to use when you've got the hang of it. Just, for the love of God, don't mark your own talk page for speedy deletion as nonsense, undoing it with a very understated "oops" and then doing it again ten minutes later. I sucked with Twinkle back then. :P If you want to use it, go to the "My Preferences" tab at the top of your screen and go to the Gadgets tab. Click Twinkle, then save and you're done. You may want to read through the documentation for the basics, but to be honest, I learnt through trail and error, logging out to be an IP and vandalising my own page (making it clear in my edit summary that it was me) and then logging in to undo it. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 03:19, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
That's funny :D ! I already activated Twinkle, but rollback related function is pretty much the function I've ever used so far. Good idea to experiment using our own user page :) I'll check out the Twinkle page too. Wikislemur (talk) 03:25, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Dead Rising 2

dude i changed that dead Rising 2 thing becuase on a GT interview Keiji Inafune was saying that Campcom was still gonna do some of the devlopment themself he said the company in canada thats helping he said capcom is leading the devlopment is just when they are they are using blue castle games technology to devlop it. sorry if i messed up the dead rising 2 page but i think it was best to let it know that part of the game will be devloped in japan. i will say i dont 100% know how Wikpedia really works. but whatever capcom or blue castle games it dont matter im sure its gonna be a good game one way or another im getting it for PS3.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Samuraicop (talkcontribs)

ok but i just wanted to let you know about the japanese still working with devlopment but im sure its gonna be a great games im gonna preorder it for PS3 and thats it i just wanted everyone to know about the japanese still doing some devlopment —Preceding unsigned comment added by Samuraicop (talkcontribs) 10:25, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

"Far too much info?"

Oh really? Define "far too much info."—Preceding unsigned comment added by Dkendr (talkcontribs)

Okay, let's begin, with your changes in bold and italics.
  • "Narada's captain, Nero, demands to meet with Captain Robau of the Kelvin aboard his ship. Aboard the Narada Robau is questioned by Nero." The second sentence already made it clear where it was.
  • "Robau is shown a holograph of the Vulcan Ambassador Spock..." Imagine someone who's never seen any Star Trek film ever. "What's a 'holograph?'"
  • "After Robau states it, without further comment, Nero then kills him and orders the Kelvin's destruction." That is merely a horrible way to say it, mutilating grammar.
  • "Spock's father Sarek tells the young Spock that he must choose his own path... Instead he joins Starfleet, fulfilling his parents' wish that he follow his own path." Purple prose, doesn't have that much impact on the film.
  • "As Vulcan is consumed by this black hole..." Keep it simple. The original "destroyed" works better.
  • "The travel back in time, Spock explains, alters the path of history. For example, in Ambassador Spock's history, George Kirk lived to see his son take command of the Enterprise." For a start, that's out of place in the paragraph for what it says, though earlier in the paragraph would have been wrong too. Hmm... "Spock explains that travelling back in time altered the normal course of events, resulting in an alternate reality." At the end of the paragraph, you could have put "Kirk asks Ambassador Spock if he knew his father in the original timeline and is told that George Kirk lived to see James become captain of the Enterprise."
  • "Kirk deliberately enrages Commander Spock, absorbing a near-strangulation in the process, forcing Spock to acknowledge that he is emotionally compromised..." What? Just... what?
I agree that the entire section needs re-writing but I didn't think yours was the best way to do that. If you wish, bring it up on the article's talk page, giving them a link to this thread as a reference, so others can attempt to form a consensus. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 20:43, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the review of my edits - you don't usually see a thought-out note. First, "holograph" is not a Trek-specific term - I probably should have Wiki'ed the word up. "Consumed" by the black hole is a) more accurate than destroyed and b) is a word used in the actual film. And I agree, some of the wording I used was clunky. But I vehemently disagree about "follow your own path" being a minor point in the film; it defines Spock's motivation. Just my two cents, which I wanted to bounce off you first.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Dkendr (talkcontribs)
I agree that Spock's conflict between his human and Vulcan selves takes up a good portion of the film, but the line itself is purple prose, even in the film, let alone an encyclopaedia. There are better ways of stating it. However, I don't think holograph means what you think it means. :P Consumed... hmm... I'm willing to concede that, but I feel only "consumed" should replace "destroyed," without adding the rest of your previous edit in (though I'm willing to discuss this too). --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 16:35, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Mass Effect move

It was my impression that consensus had already been reached on the page, and things needed to be ironed out in terms of general policy. WP:VG has agreed that series articles would take the main namespace if the series had minimum 3 games and 1 related media item. Unless you want to start the debate again, but I personally think the current policy is a good compromise.--ZXCVBNM (TALK) 21:22, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

At this point, I think I'd prefer to remain neutral, watch things unfold and lurk. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 22:18, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

There is NO attack

Hi Jadefalcon!

I did NOT attack McGeddon, I made it very clear in my statement that "I mean no disrespect"...... all I want is for the information to remain accurate. So if you are not from Special Operations please refrain from editing inaccurate information. Please read the following article from Dean Rostar, Croatian Police Special Forces

http://www.specwog.bujinkan.hr/tekst-en.php?subaction=showfull&id=1084266135&archive=&start_from=&ucat=1&

Again, I make it very clear that I mean no disrespect to anyone, regardless of whether or not they are civilians.

Peace!—Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.222.236.154 (talk)

Wrong page. This is my talk page. And regardless of the "I mean no disrespect," you still said it. And yes, I want information to be accurate too. However, Wikipedia needs reliable sources and verifiability. That is my concern. On top of that, editors need to be civil to each other when doing it. If you aren't civil, you may find people mistaking your edits for vandalism and that isn't good for you or Wikipedia. Also, exactly what proof do you have that you're SpecOps? I mean, I'm the Queen of England. For all I know, you're just the next breed of strange vandal. And vandals of Wikipedia shall meet my wrath and be hanged for treason. Just saying. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 23:11, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
I agree with Jade. Even if you said "I mean no disrespect." Calling someone, or even a general group of people (Wikipedians and civilians, in this case) is far from civil, and is often considered a dick move. --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 00:01, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Your comments

Hello... I'm certain your intentions were good, and I do appreciate you letting me know if I've accidentally reverted something to an incorrect version. However, I would ask that in the future, you would please consider the context of an edit before composing a message about it as you did on my talk page. With respect to "died" versus "passed away", you are correct in that Wikipedia encourages the use of the former over the latter. However, the tone of your note to me suggests that you think it was an intentional choice, whereas an examination of my edit summary clearly shows that the change was an unintentional byproduct of addressing an actual problem with the article. FYI, the "Words to avoid" page is a guideline not a policy, and doesn't "forbid" anything. --Ckatzchatspy 00:12, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I did assume it was intentional. I simply presumed that you'd either run out of room in the edit summary to mention it or simply didn't think it was worth noting. While I will believe that it was unintentional, I'm not too sure how it managed to happen if you didn't mean it. And I suppose I should clarify that I meant "forbids" in that it forbids it as much as a guideline can. Forgive me for not clarifying that in my original message. Things have been hectic lately. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 00:58, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation... I can certainly appreciate "hectic"! If you look at the article history, you'll see that the "died" change was sandwiched between seven other edits that needed to be removed, hence my oversight. Aargh... --Ckatzchatspy 01:07, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I see now! I was assuming you'd removed that section manually rather than simply going back to the last good version. My mistake and I apologise. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 01:11, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Input

That was quite helpful. But the source of my latest uncertainty is a number of the comments here. Of course, you've done nothing more than confuse me, as your comments matched my prior understandings ... which I gather other editors think were grossly incorrect.--Epeefleche (talk) 02:38, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Hmm... I will agree with them that the five consecutive warnings was a bit much. Since they were all in a row and Twinkle rollbacks edits, then one warning is enough for that sort of situation. Also, though I'm not familiar with this sort of article (nor do I wish to be), only the first alteration and the alterations directly above and below the Line 95 heading appear to be vandalism (and I'd likely mark as good faith in that instance unless the IP had a recent history of vandalism). Honestly, right now, I skimmed through both the IPs talk page and the AN/I thread. It's three in the morning, not exactly awake right now, so don't expect an in-depth analysis. For that IP, I believe you did make a bit of a mistake, but don't worry about it. Everyone does it (for a remarkably bad mistake on my part, see the answer to question two in my editor review) and even I've made mistakes with Twinkle. As Bwilkins said, "Twinkle is a useful tool - it allows you to do valid things quickly and easily. However, it also allows you to make mistakes quickly and easily." However, despite all of this, my responses to you are, as far as I can remember, correct in general usage. That IP was just your bad day by the looks of things. Though, as I said, sleepy, so I may be gibbering without realising. Goodnight, all. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 03:14, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Having read your moment of fury, I actually do have some words of wisdom for you. 1) While I assume that you run for admin one day (I could of course be wrong -- just a guess here), I would suggest that you allow some time between that edit and your RfA date. Otherwise, you will be roasted there. 2) Now, here's the good news. Actually, great news. Once you become an admin, if you play your cards right, you will be able to tell multiple people to go fuck themselves, have 21 people notify you about your conduct within 11 months, and still have friendly admins think you're just a solid character who doesn't even deserve a disapproving glance. Don't believe me? Check this out.--Epeefleche (talk) 03:26, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
(chuckling) Yeah, I'd flicked through the thread a while ago. And yes, I had a feeling that I shouldn't run for Prime Minister after that rant. And being a Wikipedia admin is a far more demanding job. ;) --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 03:31, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Are you retiring from Wikipedia? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 16:50, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Quite frankly, I am. You see, Wikipedia shouldn't really be used as a personal networking site, but more as a place to get information from. It seems silly to speak to people about articles and editing should only be done by special staff workers. Agree?--Doughnuthead (talk) 17:03, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
I wasn't aware you were using it as a personal networking site. And talking about articles, even if you don't edit them directly, can be extremely useful as you can point out things that others might like to discuss, whether potential mistakes in the article or a source for some new bit of info. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 17:06, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

"retired in a huff"

(See these diffs for previous conversation - ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds)

I didn't want to jam up RPP with a long conversation of this, but that was intended more as a comment on the essay than on Katerenka. I don't even know what happened there, I don't see anything obvious in her recent contribs that could have led to this... Beeblebrox (talk) 04:15, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

I didn't want to clutter it up either, hence my refusal to comment further. Kate was getting slowly fed up with pretty much every aspect of Wikipedia, from the misuse of policies to the hypocritical users. Part of me can really see where she's coming from and she hasn't totally abandoned Wikipedia, just this one (she's still active on the French, Simple and Meta Wikipedias). It's been building up for, best guess from my point of view, at least three months. She'd been editing as an IP since early 2004 and watched the English Wikipedia turn "an ugly, disgusting, spiteful game" during that time period. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 04:26, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, that's a shame. While I have certainly seen the "dark side" of wiki-politics, I just try to limit my exposure to it, especially when it's getting on my nerves. Things are always darkest before the dawn, Wikipedia will have to implement some major changes at some point as it continues to grow, and it may be a little bit ugly when it happens, but such is the way of the world. I've noticed a lot of old-timers lately waxing nostalgic over Wikipedia as it was before 2007 or so, when there weren't so many millions of users and thousands of policies, but those days are gone, never to return. In a way I'm not sorry I missed out on it, because I don't really know how much "worse" things are now. Beeblebrox (talk) 04:41, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
As do I, but I've seen the signs starting to emerge here and there like the [insert crude, risqué metaphor that Yahtzee might say here]. Wikipedia does seem like, one day in the next few years, it's going to reach a make or break point where it will either shatter into irreparable shards or finally manage to cope with the sudden growth. Really not looking forward to that... --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 04:48, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Will do ASAP. Sorry for the wait. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 03:09, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Please stop the disruption, otherwise you may be blocked from editing. Crake333 (talk) 02:55, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

According to Geoff B, this may not count as edit warring. If a passing user (especially an admin) happens to notice this, can you look through the 28 Weeks Later revision history and the above link to the talk page thread. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 03:52, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Policy

Why would you want to live by the rules of Wikipedia so much? Who cares if someone interested in a subject asks a question. Such people are always treated with contempt. I just can't stand that. Mallerd (talk) 01:18, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

...? Look. You were asking a question. I answered. If you read my comment, you would have seen this: "If [you're] expecting it to be in the article, then it's original research without a reliable source asking the same question. If [you're] not expecting it to be in the article, then [you're] using the talk page as a forum. Both are against policy." If you want a forum, then FileFront is that way. They were a friendly bunch last time I saw them. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 03:09, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
Okay I've been harsh on you, but I hope you understand a little more. Mallerd (talk) 10:19, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Your questions on SatuSuro's talk page

I managed to grab the replies on SatuSuro (talk · contribs)'s talk page, and found this. It appears that he is attempting to hide the issue by archiving the reply. What do you think this is? And is it appropriate? 7107Lecker Tischgespräch, außerdem... 07:59, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

What issue? I was confused when jade falcon arrived on my page with an odd redirect message template - and considering that delicious has had socks in the past - I thought it was delicious's sock. Really - a pointless exercise in scare mongering.
I do not think talking about other editors on third parties talk pages is particularly of any use - or particularly tactful - and as jade is doing some review - of which I am not interested in being party - i saw no need to actually get involved. Editors are not required to keep their talk pages open for great length - although courtesy by some is to leave current issues for a week.
If I choose to archive - I have no problem about delicious or jade facon - for either of you coming to my talk page - but really - I dont think there is anything to talk about - you both seem on very different planets - editing or comprehension wise - and seem to have little understanding of what I have said to either of you. If either of you have issue - please dont actually send me those banners -come to my talk page if you have a grievance - or otherwise leave it alone.
Jade - best of luck with your review - I think you really need to understand that there are editors that you might not be on the same plane with in wikipedia - do not always expect replies or responses - and do not take that the wrong way. I have found some 100,000 edit plus admins who say as little as possible in response to anything - you have to understand it is a strange place at times - and do not always expect the best - expect that at times - regardless of how kind people are at the review - there can be some difficult bits - that need quite some skill to keep your head above water. cheers SatuSuro 11:55, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
Actually, SatuSuro, you haven't said anything substantial to me, despite my requests. I did go to your talk page with a grievance and you archived it with nary a decent response. Honestly, I'm not sure if I care or not any more. However, I like your comment about "scare mongering". That's my costume for next Halloween sorted: a giant sock. My sincere apologies for being a talk page stalker. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 19:30, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
All of it was much more pointed towards the other user - not you. I honestly did not want to get involved with long drawn out conversations at the point when you asked me - due to real life issues and other things I was trying to do. I understand completely why the question was happening - as I could see you were on review. I did not want to get involved - simple as that.
As for you apologizing - that is not needed - I should be - many editor have other editors on their watch list for a whole range of reasons - most of them with good faith and cooperative - I should have been more specific about why I slipped away from responding to your questions, and stated as such. The risk you take when intervening in other talk pages is that sometimes it works - other times, well we have to wear that as part of being on here anyways. Keep other talk pages on watch, and intervene - and take the risk of being ignored or bitten - at least that will sort something out - in the end. Safe christmas ok? SatuSuro 00:33, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
That's a better response. Thank you. However, I was genuinely curious. My editor review barely even crosses my mind unless something's happening on it (which, I'll admit, is usually the case, given that it's by far the longest editor review I've ever seen). I would have asked regardless of if I was on review or not. Blessed Yule. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 00:50, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I based it on Tiptoety's user page and, in a subpage of mine, fiddled with it to suit me. I think Tiptoety was the first with the user page, but the coding did take a bit of working out, so it is partially done by me, but mostly by Tiptoety. Anyway, thanks. I think it makes me look more professional. :) --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 19:30, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Nope! It's a Wikipedia in-joke. I asked xeno about the userboxen thing once. His answer? "What is the plural of ox?" ... get it now? (thinks "Who's Brian Regan?") --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 22:10, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
That is from Brian Regan's standup! Haha! "Brian, What's the plural of moose?" - "Moosen! I saw a flock of moosen! There were many of them, many much moosen!" OMG, that's awesome! --Austin de Rossi (talk) 22:22, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Original Pictures

{{helpme}}

One of my friends outside of Wikipedia created a small, original picture for me the other day to help snazz up my user page during my revamp of it. While I am triple-checking with her to make sure, what are the rules about uploading her image and using it on my user page? Is it possible and, if so, how would I go about it? Also, if she wishes it (from what I know of her, she's very protective of her works), is it possible to restrict its use only to my page? Thanks in advance. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 01:20, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

No, it must be released under the CC-BY-SA-3.0, into the public domain, or (I assume) under the GFDL, which basically mean that anybody can use it for any purpose, provided attribution is given (except the third), and it is not sold or anything. This is the only way it can be used on a userpage; fair-use images can never appear on userpages. Intelligentsium 01:26, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. I'll raise that point with her. If she agrees to that, how would I/we/she go about doing it? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 01:29, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, remember that Wikipedia is not MySpace, so you'll probably have to avoid drawing attention. You probably need evidence of the work being under an appropriate licence as well; as all works are by default copyrighted, you need proof that it was released under such a licence. Normally, you would have to go through OTRS for that (see also: WP:COPYREQ). Of course, if you get her to create an account, she could release it herself, but again, Wikipedia is not MySpace. Intelligentsium 01:36, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
And I'm not intending it to be MySpacey either. Just to make my page slightly more interesting and friendly to readers but without resorting to changing colours (and potentially making it unreadable for, say, a colour-blind person). Never mind though. I doubt she'd want to hang around long enough to be autoconfirmed to upload a picture. Thanks for the help anyway. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 01:43, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Comment

Hi Thejadefalcon, I was wondering about your recent edit to the page Talk:Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. You have twice removed comments from an ip regarding the development of the game, specifically that the game was originally intended for release only on certain systems but was subsequently released on more systems than originally intended. What was your reason for treating this as vandalism? Thanks. Weakopedia (talk) 07:00, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

It was less what they said, more how they said it. They were just ranting at LucasArts in my opinion, whining about how it took so long to reach the PC. That was the impression I got, anyway. Maybe the fact that LucasArts have done what they said they wouldn't is worthy of note (I remember them saying that myself) even if it's only a brief sentence, but the way they said it was utterly wrong in my opinion. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 19:30, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
Looking at the ips contributions it seems obvious that they are not well versed in what Wikipedia actually is. Perhaps the way the said it wasn't to your liking, but since the ip has only so far made a few edits to Wikipedia it seems a little harsh to call it vandalism, they weren't being overly offensive in my opinion and raised a point not included in the text of the article, but raised the point on it's talk page. Perhaps at this point it is a good idea to specify in the edit summary just what type of vandalism you think it to be, as a new user may not get the full benefit of just being told their questions are vandalism.
I feel that whenever the ip reverted your reversion and added the text that the comment was valid and could be reworded to make it more acceptable if necessary that a chance for discussion had appeared, yet you closed this avenue with a template informing the ip that whining was not acceptable on Wiki. I have seen quite a lot of whining on Wiki to be honest and while unproductive it can often be made by users with valid points, and is rarely treated so quickly as vandalism.
I see you came close to violating 3RR, saved perhaps by the ips entirely out of place comments on your editor review (which is where I picked up on the situation). I would encourage you in future to more fully explain in your edit summaries what type of vandalism has taken place, especially for newer users who may not quite get the style of Wikipedia yet, and avoid catch-all terms like "whining" which generally tend to inflame situations! Regards. Weakopedia (talk) 07:29, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Urgh, you're probably right. I let something that was happening in my personal life waltz on into Wikipedia once again. I'm going to force myself to double- and triple-check an edit before marking it for vandalism for now because, right now, I'm clearly still a bit too distressed to be able to tell easily. I'm going to go apologise to the IP now, hope it's the same guy. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 13:49, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
It's only because your short reply is out of character that it caught my attention, and the ip didn't help themselves. Hope your real world stuff comes good, happy holidays. Weakopedia (talk) 17:49, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
It was out of character? Is that good or bad? O.o --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 17:52, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Oops, I mean to say that overwhelmingly your contribution has been positive, the short edit summary being unusual enough to warrant comment. Looking at it and thinking of the reasoned manner in which you have approached our limited contact it just didn't sit right, so I thought I would say something. Possibly we are both assuming too much good faith on the ips part but better safe than sorry, a consistent approach keeps you in the right. Weakopedia (talk) 20:11, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Ah, right, I see now. However, I used Twinkle to revert, using the "revert as vandalism" button, which has no pop-up asking for an edit summary. The only thing added to the default Twinkle stuff was the additional notes in this warning and the original one as you saw. So far, I've held off reverting as vandals today. All I did was nominate fifteen AfDs in one catch-all massacre. X.X --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 22:58, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

When I ask another user to stop using my user name as a plaything - the last thing I would expect is to see yet another intrusion. SatuSuro 03:44, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Wait, what? Since when did I use your username as a plaything? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 03:46, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
Come on - since when making a reply on 7107 talk page in relation to a simple request really need your comment? This is in some parts an online encyclopedia - and others it is a 'game' for some, I am just another editor tired of anothers behaviour which I find disruptive - i fail to see what it has to do with you SatuSuro 03:51, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
All I was doing was asking a simple question to which I wanted to know the answer. I fail to see how that requires biting my face off. I responded there because I've grown to dislike forking threads when unnecessary. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 03:59, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
Asking a question like that can be answered simply by reading the page - there are items that you can read yourself - I do not need to showtalk page items that are self evident.
There are very different editors in this place - some who spend their lives defending the overall project - who fight vandalism and engage in a lot with the people who cause problems on wikipedia - then there are the GA and FA editors who hardly have time for anything but getting articles together - then there are other editors who tend to be more interested in working on the structure - fixing categories and projects - some others who spend so much time on talk pages they hardly see beyond the talk page.
I do not like for one to be dragged into the myre of others games - which have little to do with actually getting on with creating a good encyclopedia. Just remember that every edit in this place is googleable - just try querying it - so when I see my username being used as a joke item by other editors - its there on google as a searchable item. I object to that. Simple and plain as that. SatuSuro 04:05, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Man you have to smarten up - specially if you wanna become one of the rfa candidates - I am polite in comparison to some - at least I come back and explain - you really have to realise that all the love in stuff at the review is nothing like the real stuff when it gets bad. Then you will need shoulders to cry on - or one thing you do not seem to have developed (and which at times I forget http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:HORSEMEAT ) - sometimes it is better to walk away than to stay around for any of the rubbish that some want to drop on you :0 SatuSuro 04:54, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
