TedderBot

Hello, Tedder. May I ask if TedderBot can keep User:AlexNewArtBot/GoodSearchResult refreshed, please? The bot is active, but has somehow ignored this page lately. Please have a look. Thank you. --PFHLai (talk) 20:24, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Your recent fix doesn't seem to have reactivated AlexNewArtBot/ArchitectureSearchResult. Any chance of revival? - Ipigott (talk) 20:29, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
It actually just hit 'Architecture'. It'll hit 'Good' later today or tomorrow. Don't worry! tedder (talk) 21:47, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
'Good' is now good. Thank you, Tedder. --PFHLai (talk) 03:30, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

Edit war - help please?

I somehow got in the middle of an edit war on Not Your Kind of People. A third party would be appreciated. Thanks a million! --Manway 22:23, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, looked at it and it was clear-cut. Sigh. tedder (talk) 22:35, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, amigo. --Manway 22:39, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
No problem. But- curses, I had to buy a bunch of tracks, I'd forgotten about that release. tedder (talk) 22:41, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

User:AlexNewArtBot/Canada

Hi! I have found the list generated by the above Bot quite helpful for tracking new Canadian content. Any chance that it will run on a more regular basis? Thanks! I'll watch here. Stormbay (talk) 22:25, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Hey, it will generally run daily, but was broken for the past ~8 days. So.. sure, it can run regularly, just do nothing and these results will start updating. tedder (talk) 22:28, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Missed it by that much...

It just took me longer to find the COI and the username templates, but I was right behind ya, chief! --Esprqii (talk) 21:41, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

I had to google to find the right template, but I was pretty sure that one was it. I expect they'll want to clean up "their" page significantly, so we'll see more of it. I actually like how lukewarm their page is now. tedder (talk) 21:50, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
I have to agree, though, that the last two sections are pretty pointless. --Esprqii (talk) 21:59, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
...which is not to say that the guy who added one of those sections is not a great guy and all. (Long block quotes in sections tend to do that to me...) --Esprqii (talk) 22:03, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
(no worries on the foot thing). I dislike blockquotes, it could be rewritten, but is a fairly effective commentary on the warts of OHS. The Vaughan era reflects on that too. tedder (talk) 22:06, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
It is. I just think it needs some context written at my third-grade reading level so I understands it better--though the recent editing is a perfect example. --Esprqii (talk) 22:13, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

New Airline Article

My first. Just published it yesterday. I left a note on the bottom of the Aviation Project Talk page too, but then I found this. So, here it is. Regional Airline Association --XB70Valyrie (talk) 06:07, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Congrats on your first article! tedder (talk) 10:13, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Bot

It removed the template http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=David_Rath&diff=494890094&oldid=494788978 why? The template is supposed to stay there, the bot removed it within few hours when I inserted it in article, is that task even approved? What's the point of doing that. I would understand if it removed the template after several days, not hours. Petrb (talk) 12:06, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Hey Petrb, yes, it removes them after 12 hours with an edit summary giving an indication. It's an approved task; as WP:CET says, "The current event template may be used optionally to warn the editor or reader about the great flux of edits and the fast-changing state of the article, due to the fact that current events tend to get the most attention from editors. In such a case, the template is subject to removal when the event described is no longer receiving massive editing attention." tedder (talk) 15:01, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi Tedder,

I want to use the image File:Motorcycle_camping_in_Virginia.jpg. The licensing says it is CC-BY. What name to you prefer to be attributed under?

Help needed

Can you help me with this, for WP:BGD? Thanks in advance! --WhiteWriterspeaks 22:46, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi WhiteWriter- you need to first create the rules page, which means finding search phrases. (e.g., belgrade, serbian, grocka, Čukarica and Cukarica, etc). Once you put them there, put it back on this list. Within a day or so you'll start getting results. This section explains how to create the rules. Let me know if I can lend technical help; I can't help much with search phrases. tedder (talk) 00:03, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

I don't know if this is important, except for people who are doing a new listing on this page and using an existing listing as an example. The individual links to "log" go to the old Alex log links that haven't been updated in a year. I corrected Texas and Hawaii to point to the TedderBot/NewPageSearch/*errors. The rest of them are pointing to the old Alex pages. Perhaps a bot can correct those? Maile66 (talk) 13:52, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Can you give me links as examples? I mean, a before/after? tedder (talk) 14:26, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
I just corrected the Sociology one. The Women's History was one I corrected a couple of weeks ago. Although new, when Rich listed it on the AlexNewArtBot page, he must have copied another listing as an example. If you just go to the AlexNewArtBot page, and click on just about any Log, you'll see it points to the old logs before you took over the process. Maile66 (talk) 14:47, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
Ahhh. That page is problematic anyhow- people add projects there instead of to User:AlexNewArtBot/Master. Perhaps I should remove all the text and have the bot generate the list. OTOH, that won't give categorization. Hmm. tedder (talk) 14:49, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
I see. And possibly adding to that are the pages like WH History/New_articles, where right in the first sentence there is a link to that old page. And people just copy as needed for their projects. Maile66 (talk) 15:02, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Keep Portland Weird

Howdy. I'm anxiously awaiting your input at Talk:Keep Portland Weird. — Bdb484 (talk) 03:23, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey- I have it on the top of my todo list. I promise I'll do it by tomorrow at this time- been working nonstop in my RealLife, so I just have time for trivial edits. tedder (talk) 03:40, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Help if you can, Tedder

User:AlexNewArtBot/TexasSearchResult On June 7, the bot picked up an additional 250 articles for the Texas project. And about 130 for the next. The hundreds of one-line articles being created by Thine Antique Pen and by Dipankan001 have absolutely nothing to do with Texas. The phenomenon is happening because they use Texas A & M as a source. It defeats the purpose of having that list if these kinds of edits are crowding the rest out. Is there a tweak you can do to the rules to cut down on this? Can you do something so the bot doesn't pick up the citation sourcing? Your help is appreciated. Maile66 (talk) 17:46, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Another editor added some coding to help. Let's see how the next run is. Maybe this fixed it. Maile66 (talk) 22:44, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
I added another exclusion. I'm generally not great at setting up the rules, but I remembered seeing a similar exclusion. tedder (talk) 01:05, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for trying. I noticed today when I was looking at Special:NewPages, that the above-mentioned phenomenon has spread to a couple of other editors who are creating oodles of one-line articles that use Texas A & M as the source. Maile66 (talk) 01:35, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
Cool. Hopefully it'll help. Those exclusions are a great way to go. tedder (talk) 02:05, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
The Texas search results look like they're back to normal. Thanks for your help. Maile66 (talk) 13:38, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Bot is stopped

Tedderbot went as far as Russia and stopped. Maile66 (talk) 19:12, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

There were API issues last night. It'll start up in the R and S next time it runs. It's designed to be a good Wikibotpedian, so it may not run every day if there are database or API problems. tedder (talk) 01:05, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Eye

Tbanks. It was a lens replacement. I've also had two laser surgeries in the other eye, both to repair a retinal tear. The lasered eye works quite well, and I think this one will be fine too. What doctors can do is truly amazing. With no treatment for either problem, I'd probably be close to blind in the first eye and heading that way in the second. With new glasses, I hope to be close to 20/20 again by August (knock on wood). I hope your transplants have solved the problem. Finetooth (talk) 21:06, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Ah, retinal tears and lens replacements. Good times. Apropos of lenses, I was just researching the new multifocal lenses- turns out, hardly any of the studies even test for independence from wearing glasses. But they are amazingly good for improving vision! My cornea is doing fairly well with the replacement. Here's to vision. tedder (talk) 21:10, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Windward School page

I tried to add some additional information on the two alumni you removed (without making them mini-bios). A high MLB draft pick and major award finalist (who's currently playing in the College WS) and a multi-time national gymnastics champion who was on the national team for six years both seem notable to me (so I made those things explicit). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.84.97.221 (talk) 02:41, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi- I only removed one. I'm not disputing Samantha Shapiro. She has an article and appears to qualify. If not, WP:AFD is the forum for discussion on that. Heineman is another matter. The eighth round of MLB isn't a "high" draft pick, and not many university level players are considered notable. Please see WP:BASEBALL/N for very specific guidelines for notability (the general guidelines are at WP:BIO and WP:GNG. "Notable to me" is an arbitrary standard; see WP:PPOV for comments on how the personal yardstick can be difficult. This is why I mentioned creating an article on Heineman. If you do, it can be individually judged for merit, rather than leading to edit warring. tedder (talk) 04:47, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
For some reason it looked like you removed Shapiro as well - Looking back at the history, it's got it highlighted but it wasn't removed. My error. As for Heineman, I was looking at the criteria, specifically #3 under Amateur athletes. Heineman's been covered in ESPN, a national media source, but not to the degree that he seemed to deserve his own article. I can see how it's borderline though, so I've no further objection. (Also, I created a username, if it wasn't already clear that I'm the same as the IP) King Kashue (talk) 12:16, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Undoing changes at Pulte Homes

Hi, I see you undid my changes on Pulte Homes for sources not being reliable. Although I do follow you fully for that on Freerepublic.com I do have my doubts on the Youtube video (without any other comments made by 3rd parties that include this video embedded on their own website: didn't use those for that reason). Also their (small) fine and consent-agreement in South Carolina seems sound to me.(reference to that was already made inline in the article; just re-used it)

And as I'm not knowing the ins-and-outs I do want your opinion on the report http://poorlybuiltbypulte.info/20090309_PBBP.pdf which I wanted to add but then had a edit-conflict with you.

As I really don't want to start an edit-war with you, or anyone else, would like your opinion on this PDF report from Building Justitce/Poorly Built by Pulte. The website itself is not "neutral": that's what I can see; but the report seems quite sound.

Your reaction is very welcome and I don't intend to edit the page before hearing from you, Thanks, Tonkie (talk) 20:00, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi- first, be really careful of using the minor tag. It's probably enabled on your profile by default. See WP:MINOR.
Second, yes, I'm not claiming Pulte is a great company. It's just that sources need to be very reliable, especially in a case like this. "poorly built" might be usable as an external link, but it isn't a reliable source that can be used for a reference. Here's a discussion on using youtube: WP:NOYT.
I suspect if you search news archives and other very reliable sources you can find things- the South Carolina agreement is a good example. Note the "key stats" section needs major revamping to remove unsupported information from both sides- and to keep from using links to "poorly built" as a reference. tedder (talk) 20:14, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Astoria–Megler Bridge

If you looked closer, whoever wrote 14 miles is clearly the one who is incorrect. The original editor cited source number 3 which states 4.1 miles. I simply fixed the typo. Jonah Mowry salted?

Is Jonah Mowry (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) salted? I guess that's the reason the option to create the page isn't available. Seeing that this person remains a steady focus of mainstream media attention I would like you to open this title up for editing. I'm not planning to edit it myself, but I'm sure others will have a go at it, people who might not know how to address the salt situation. __meco (talk) 18:09, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi- yes, it's salted, as it was being created and was well in violation of WP:BLP. The best thing to do is to create it in userspace or WP:AFC, it can be moved to mainspace if it passes BLP. tedder (talk) 18:15, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
I just figured it might be a more flexible solution to simply unsalt it. There are so many mainstream sources at this time for this YouTube celebrity that the BLP issues are less likely to be a major problem. __meco (talk) 20:51, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
Sure, I'll unsalt and watch. The issue wasn't sources, it was more about negative information. tedder (talk) 21:06, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Kevin James minor edit

I accidentally added information and considered it to be a minor edit. However, I included a link and added information of which is considered a standard edit. The reason for the edit was to further clarify Mr. James' definition of (political) transperancy, which occured at LAMC (wiki link provided for further user research as to actual events). Tedderbot not archiving

I'm not sure if the archive feature was turned off, but in the archives to the new articles alert for the Canada Roads Wikiproject, there is nothing beyond mid-July 2011... - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 13:08, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

You've been active but haven't responded. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 14:02, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I've been doing minimal watchlist work and forgot about this. Archives are definitely problematic; I haven't ever dug into it to see what is failing. I swear someone posted the problem with my code, I guess I could take the time to troll my archives and see if I'm right. tedder (talk) 19:27, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, it will help me catch up with articles that I missed on lazy weeks :) - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 19:31, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
BTW, you can always use the 'point in time' history for things. For instance: here's the beginning of May. Articles stay for (7-10?) days, so you can look at a few every month and catch most of them. The sparkline sorta helps with that too. tedder (talk) 19:40, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Architecture

No results for AlexNewArtBot/ArchitectureSearchResult since 27 June. Could you check it out? - Ipigott (talk) 13:02, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

You are talking about User:AlexNewArtBot/ArchitectureSearchResult. It updated on 28 june and then missed a couple of days, but updated today (july 3). Missing a few days is normal- nothing to worry about. It's designed to avoid placing excess load on the Wikimedia servers, so it'll fail when things are going wrong. tedder (talk) 19:26, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. I'll be more patient in future but I must say it produces results virtually every day and is very useful. - Ipigott (talk) 07:09, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Holy Land Rewrite

I included the original sources in the rewrite. They were incorporated in to the rewrite. The original article was very dated and originally poorly constructed. I did attempt to follow wiki guidelines for NPOV, but just added new copy, updated info on the park and a few new sources. If the article needs more improvement, please advise. Happy to discuss and have consensus. Thanks.72.64.105.56 (talk) 18:24, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

It appears you've removed content- the Jewish reaction is most noticeable. And there is inclusion of information that isn't encyclopedic like the park hours and information in the lede, which makes me suspect you have a conflict of interest with the park. That's backed up by your primary interest in TBN and Holy Land Experience. tedder (talk) 19:29, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Yes, the park hours aren't very encyclopedic. The intro seems to be though? I will read thru again and edit any copy that isn't facts only. Thanks for your direction72.64.105.56 (talk) 03:45, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Tedderbot and Connecticut

Minor, but ironic. Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame, created on July 5 and which could not be more blatantly about Connecticut, never shows up on Tedderbot's runs under Connecticut. It has showed up elsewhere, the bot's run on Women's History and Good articles, for instance. I realize this is about the User:AlexNewArtBot/Connecticut that was written years ago. But isn't this the irony of ironies? Maile66 (talk) 11:41, 6 July 2012 (UTC).

Yeah, agree, that's too bad. tedder (talk) 16:17, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Cambro Manufacturing

Hi Tedder, I was working on improving new Cambro Manufacturing article that another editor had started, but it looks like you just deleted it. Is there any chance of you restoring it and giving me a chance to determine if it is notable and remove the copyrighted content? If I can't fix it in a few days, feel free to delete it then. Thanks, 72Dino (talk) 16:10, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Hey 72Dino. It was completely copyvio of this page. So there's little value in restoring it for the content. I'm not arguing notability or lack of- just saying there was no original content to build upon. tedder (talk) 16:13, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
OK. If I get some time in the future I'll look into creating the article myself so there won't be an issue with copyvio. 72Dino (talk) 16:16, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

I noticed that you recently reverted User:86.140.76.122's edits to the Oregon article, and I wanted to let you know that this user has made similar edits to other U.S. state articles which have shown up on my WatchList including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Pennsylvania. Culver High

Thanks, Tedder. I have zero interest in self-promoting at Culver High. A bunch of Culver High alumni were with me and wondered why "their" Olympian was not listed on the page; I was with some wiki editing experience; they wanted me to advance the page with "their" Olympian. So, would you please perhaps review the matter and perhaps improve the article with Culver High's Olympian, as you see fit. Joefaust (talk) 04:29, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Adding yourself with the link is self promotion enough, I'd think. Schools usually have an interesting idea about what "notable alumni" means to them, which differs from Wikipedia's policy. tedder (talk) 04:33, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
Forget the link; that was for verification. A link to Rome 1960, the book, would do; the high school has many times over noted their Olympian. My personal online work is hard set simply to advance others. You might use: http://www.culverhighalumni.org/this-n-that.html Up to you. Joefaust (talk) 05:00, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

I have a question

I am not disagreeing with your action of removing a recent death tag from the Sister Boom Boom page, but since he only died Monday, two days ago - how can it be "stale?" I did read the instructions and since I placed the tag within hours of his death and the obituaries are only being published in major papers today, I still don't see how the tag got outdated. I'm not attacking you, please don't get upset, just I am curious what part of "recent" I missed out on when the event is within the same week? Ellin Beltz (talk) 18:57, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi- it was my bot that removes them under consensus from WP:CET. Basically, "recent" on Wikipedia means "frequently being edited". It isn't for anything that's ongoing (there are many ongoing events, fewer that are receiving massive edits at Wikipedia). By keeping the usage down, the list can be monitored. Hope that helps- let me know if you have further questions. Cheers, tedder (talk) 20:11, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. The page isn't getting massive edits, but I put the tag before when Mr. Fertig's death wasn't public to stop the edit war that was starting. Thank you for telling me what it is all about, I thought "recent death" was for anyone who was recently demised, to stop edit wars. My bad. I did read the instructions, honest! Ellin Beltz (talk) 19:04, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
No worries at all. I promise that you have not been reported to the cabal. tedder (talk) 19:07, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

"Not notable"?!?

I don't mean to be a pain, but how is it that someone who runs a world-renowned program at an Ivy League institution "not notable"? Tim Vasen is very well-known, not only for his work at Princeton but also as a director in theatre. My understanding is that outright deletions of material are a violation of WP policy. If one wants something changed, should it not be put up for discussion first? SUNY Boy (talk) 15:50, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi. The lists of individuals on Wikipedia (such as on city and school articles) are described using WP:NLIST. Specifically, the general consensus is that individuals listed as notable should meet Wikipedia's standards of encyclopedic notability. The easiest way to do this is to create the page for the individual. That page, of course, must meet the encyclopedic standards, but it provides a way to discuss the notability of the individual.
Second, "outright deletions of material are a violation of WP policy" has nothing to do with Wikipedia policy. It's the burden on the contributor to include reliable sources, and Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Naturally, sourced data should not be removed. tedder (talk) 17:45, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

No talking to a bot :)

Hello. I appreciate the value of bots but it's kind of hard to discuss their edits with them. Could your bot be configured to not revisit pages (or at least for a long time) or to use a whitelist, where other editors can list pages to be skipped? Otherwise it edit wars without comment or discussion, and without respecting any guidelines (e.g., 3RR). I know the bot only has the best of intentions, but it's just not very good at collaborating. Thanks! guanxi (talk) 16:32, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

The "current" bot is aware of edit warring. What page are you talking about? tedder (talk) 18:53, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund. The issue about the header isn't very important to me; I just noticed that the bot and I were effectively in a revert war and it struck me: How does one resolve disagreements with a bot? A whitelist seemed like the simplest solution. guanxi (talk) 19:13, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Aha. The bot won't continue reverting (I don't remember the exact backoff). But that's not what the current template is designed for; feel free to discuss it at WT:CET, but it isn't meant for all current events, just those that are receiving large numbers of edits from many editors. tedder (talk) 21:21, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Tedder. I wasn't aware of the 'backoff'. guanxi (talk) 02:57, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

BellaMontagnaHomeowner

I apologize by responding here to your edit of my edit of the Meritage Homes page. I'm a novice and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to respond to you on my own talk page. It's probably an age/early onset thing. :-)

First, thanks for your welcome and guidance. I have a couple of comments/questions.

It's not clear to me why The Ripoff Report and ConsumeAffairs.com are not legitimate sources while newspapers are. These independent websites contain many complaints about Meritage's building quality and business practices, and they form a pattern. Of course, newspapers will never cover one-off complaints of this type since they're spread across multiple newspaper-markets and are not considered "newsworthy". You seem to have more faith in the accuracy of newspaper coverage than I do. Nevertheless, I will follow your advice and look for newspaper articles, but I'd appreciate it if you would reconsider your decision that the web sites I've cited are not legitimate sources.

Second, I want to bring to your attention that, without an addition like mine, the Meritage Homes page is nothing more than an advertisement. The only citation in the text is to its own web page, and that link is out-of-date. All other links are either to web pages that "document" that and there is such a thing as "real estate development" and there is a city called "Scottsdale, AZ". Other links describe what the Forbes 1000 and the S&P SmallCap Index are without documenting Meritage's claim that they are included in either. Trust them.

The link to the "All-Star Miracle Homes" Wikipedia page is just another advertisement for Meritage. None of the links on this page document that there is, in fact, such an entity, though I agree these Miracle Homes probably exist. The links on the Miracle Homes page, in turn, either go to touts of Meritage's local-market All-Star Miracle Homes or various institutions' and organizations' web pages that do not document Meritage's claims about the All-Star Miracle Homes. Note that this page cites no independent websites that verify Meritage's claims, much less any newspaper articles, apparently your gold standard of verification.

Finally, among the External Links, two are to Meritage's web and Twitter pages, hardly independent verification of anything; HousingNewsNetwork.com, simply a search engine which didn't turn up anything on Meritage when I tired it today; and financial information on Google and Yahoo.

Meritage has done nothing more than pile link on to link to make it APPEAR they've provided independent verification supporting their page. In fact, there's nothing there.

What can be done about this ?

Best,

BMO — Preceding unsigned comment added by BellaMontagniaHomeowner (talkcontribs) 15:09, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi BMO, generally it's good to keep replies on the same page, but we can work from here now. That's fine.
The Meritage Homes article is in poor shape, but that's not an excuse to make it worse. Absent reliable sources, the primary source (company's website) is the only thing we have to use. See WP:EL for what should be on external links- just the official page, really. References should be verifiable, which means not self-published (like blogs), and from a source that is known for having editorial standards. Ripoff Report is basically a blog with user-generated content, so it isn't allowed (nor are reviews from Yelp allowed, for the same reason). Consumer Affairs appears to be the same thing- user-generated content. A good summary of the issue is here: Wikipedia:The answer to life, the universe, and everything. This is why a source such as a newspaper or very well-regarded online news source is considered acceptable. Again, the article needs cleanup, but that's not an argument for using poor sources. tedder (talk) 18:11, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for you quick response. I suppose my point about the Meritage article is the same as yours: articles should be verifiable and not from self-published sources. Meritage's article is based solely on self-published sources such as its website, Twitter page and self-generated Miracle Homes promotional pages on Wikipedia; links to websites that provide no verification whatsoever to Meritage's claims, and two links to Meritage's stock data, also promotional by the way. It's hard to reconcile this with the article needing some "cleanup". Can you tell me why you believe the article is more than an unverified promotion for Maeritage?
In the meantime, I am finding the legal citation for a lawsuit filed against Meritage in the District Court of Travis County, Texas, that documents the allegations against them and articles that verify them as well.
Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BellaMontagniaHomeowner (talkcontribs) 20:19, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
Hi, yes, "Meritage" and a district court are primary sources, so they are better than nothing. It's better to have something like a newspaper article but that would help. Yes, You are right, the Meritage article is based on Meritage, nothing outside of their sources. I agree with you, it's promotional from their point of view. I never said I didn't agree with that. What I disagree with is how to improve it- as I've said, Ripoff Report doesn't count as improvement. Add some sources and I'll help improve it. This google search may help- there are a ton of press releases, but it looks like there might be a few interesting bits in there: "Meritage Homes ranks poorly in sustainability survey", talk of their profitability/sales, maybe more? tedder (talk) 21:07, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

I agree that I must come up with sources that meet Wikipedia standards in order to get my edit approved. No Issue there.

My question is this: Do articles that are purely promotional in nature with no verification other than sources that are self-generated meet Wikipedia standards? If so, wow. If not, are they removed, and shouldn't this one be removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by BellaMontagniaHomeowner (talkcontribs) 00:08, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

I'm glad you understand how the standards apply even if the page doesn't seem to meet the standards . Sometimes that's hard to explain. The page may be deleted, but it's better with someone who has more experience to do it. In other words, I'll do some research and perhaps delete it. Simply being in terrible shape isn't a reason to delete, as it can be improved. But I think there's a decent case here. tedder (talk) 01:21, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for considering deletion

I have no problem with seeing the article deleted and then Meritage coming back with a new one that cites verifiable sources, is less flagrantly promotional, and removes the links that on the surface appear to provide support for their claims but in fact do not. Cheers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BellaMontagniaHomeowner (talkcontribs) 04:42, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

TedderBot annotations

I remember inquiring a while back about whether or not the bot could leave the front or back of each line alone so that I could mark items as unrelated. I think another user was marking items checked as well. Just wondering if that was coming along or stalled. Thanks!--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 19:35, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

Blinking colloidal nanocrystals

Hello. I am not sure if I should post here or over at User:AlexNewArtBot. In any case, I notice that "Blinking colloidal nanocrystals" was not picked up and posted by the User:AlexNewArtBot/PhysicsSearchResult‎ for artcle alerts. FYI this article did start out as "Colloidal nanocrystals" but was moved to its present title. Would it be possible to post Blinking colloidal nanocrystals to the relevant search bot? In this case it would be physics and engineering. I also notice there are no links to this article from any project. Do you know what this is about? ---- Steve Quinn (talk) 04:56, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

P.S. thanks in advance for looking into this matter. In addition, your bots do a great job and are very helpful for the Wikipedia project. ---- Steve Quinn (talk) 05:02, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi- it is curious that it didn't show up anywhere. There is plenty of content, so presumably it should have. I really need to modify the code so it can be run against a given page, as this comes up occasionally. But I can't ask the code to give me the scores for projects at this time. tedder (talk) 15:35, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

New feed for TedderBot / AlexNewArtBot

Can a new feed for the bot be made (if it doesn't already exist) to show new articles relating to Christian music (in all its forms/genres)? This includes Contemporary Christian music, Christian rock, Christian rap, etc. I would do it myself, but I don't understand how. If you could, could you also put easier-to-understand instructions on your page? Thanks. Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 14:55, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi- did you see the instructions here? If they aren't clear, feel free to be bold and clarify it. I'd be glad to help on the sticky bits. Basically, you want to choose a feed name (User:AlexNewArtBot/Christian music), add your rules to it, and then add "Christian music" to User:AlexNewArtBot/Master. You should be able to come up with approximate search phrases and exclusions for the User:AlexNewArtBot/Christian music page; do your best attempt at it, then post back here and I'll help you make it perfect. tedder (talk) 19:30, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
Sorry I didn't answer sooner. I never saw your reply on my watchlist. Anyhow, what rules would I use? How do I format them? Where do I put them? No offense, but the instructions are clear as mud (at least to me, that is). I am almost totally confused as to how to do this (or how to clarify the instructions), else, I would do this stuff myself. Thank you for answering, and for your help. Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 22:42, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
Put them at User:AlexNewArtBot/Christian music. Just create that page, and add keyword searches, one per line. You can try to make them match the format seen at other pages (User:AlexNewArtBot/Oregon, for example), and I'll try to help. The first /search/ (slashes denote them) is what you are giving points for. The searches after the comma "inhibit" the search. For instance, the Oregon folks like Portland, Oregon but don't want to see pages dealing with Portland Maine. That's the fourth line on that page. Don't worry about the fancy symbols ("\W" and "\w") for now. Once you start the page, ping me here and I'll help get it right. When it's in reasonable shape we'll add it to User:AlexNewArtBot/Master, and the bot start searching for it. tedder (talk) 22:53, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, but I don't mean to be a pain. I started the page, but I still have no idea what to put on it. The Oregon page didn't help me at all. Just to let you know, I enjoy groups like dc Talk, Audio Adrenaline, newsboys, Avalon, etc. Thank you for your help. If necessary, I may need to have you edit the page for me, and I can give you any information that would be needed. Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 00:17, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
What can be done to get this "project" up and running? Thank you for your help. Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 21:26, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
So the trick is that you need to come up with search keywords that would find articles related to christian music. I can't come up with that list. tedder (talk) 20:54, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
Sorry for not replying sooner. I was out of town, so I wasn't online. Please don't think that I am wanting you to do this for me. I just don't know what would be good search keywords for this. Also, what is the correct code for designing the feed page? If you could make the instructions as "simple as pie", that would be great for people like me. Thank you for bearing with me and helping me through this!  :-) Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 03:26, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Is FFRF an atheist group?

Hi Tedder. First, thanks for comments and helping me understand the wiki-verse. I think the atheist group label for FFRF is incorrect. The group has two purposes A) to keep church and state separate (B) to "educate the public on matters of nontheism." I understand that Wikipedia should not just accept any group's self-identification, but atheist is a pretty narrow term. It also suggests that the members and employees are all atheists which is not true. The rejection of religion and religious dogma as a way of thinking is simply not atheism. Atheism is a lack of belief in god. Freethought on the other hand is a positive (as in standing for something and not the absence of something) definition that encompasses atheism, agnosticism, nontheism, and even state/church separation. "Freethought group" is a broader term that encompasses all of FFRF's stated goals and purposes whereas "atheist group" doesn't really encompass any. I'd love to hear your thoughts.Constitutional Scholar (talk) 18:54, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi CS. I completely understand that FFRF wants to be seen as more, as they are more than strong atheists. However, FFRF doesn't own their Wikipedia article, and Wikipedia articles are more about the common view of a term/organization/object/thing. Wikipedia's policy on neutral point of view explains how pages should be worded fairly well; I'd encourage you to also read this essay: Wikipedia:Verifiability, not truth. If you want to go further than this, we should move this discussion to Talk:FFRF and then you can also post to Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view/Noticeboard. I'll move this discussion, please give me your okay to refactor your message slightly to fit the different context. And a disclaimer I'm a member of FFRF and listen to Penn Jillette's weekly Penn's Sunday School. tedder (talk) 19:30, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Tedder. You can move the discussion and just start my comment at "I think the atheist group label... doesn't really encompass any." I've been trying to discuss a lot on the FFRF talk page but don't get many responses. If you get some time to respond to the other comments on there I'd appreciate it. Constitutional Scholar (talk) 19:51, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
I put it at Talk:Freedom_From_Religion_Foundation#Is_FFRF_an_atheist_group.3F. If I have time I'll read the others. tedder (talk) 20:09, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, please see discussions at WP:CET; the current template is for articles receiving large numbers of edits. tedder (talk) 13:59, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
That is exactly what is happening. The article has had around 50 edits since this hit the news a few days ago. It had exactly zero in the preceding month. I have put it back for now, but only as a section template. SpinningSpark 16:09, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

article for creation backlog

Hi there, have you had a chance to consider if or how the tedderbot could be used to sort the articles for creation pending articles list, following DGG's request? There is a huge backlog at the moment, so anything that would help identify what articles are out there would be very useful. Regards, The-Pope (talk) 17:05, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the reminder. I'm crazy-busy, not even enough time to follow my watchlist, and I'm headed on vacation. There are two ways I can see to handle this- include AFC pages on each search feed, or to have a single page for AFC, with sections for category. I think the former would work better, as it integrates AFC pages into the main workflow. The negative is that it's harder for AFC folks to see all categories, as there are what, 100 searches? How do the AFC folks feel about that? tedder (talk) 22:18, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi Tedder, I noted you deleted an attempt to setup a "Satellite Direct" article in March of 2011, and I commend you for that. Since I'm not an administrator, I haven't been able to see whatever "ad" was attempted by them back then, but I have no doubt that this "somewhat scuzzy" company was attempting to use Wikipedia as one of their advertising platforms for what I see as their very heavily "hyped up" and somewhat misleading advertising campaign.
Having said that, I have recently become a subscriber of theirs, and I do believe that their company isn't "total scuz". There is a certain element of value in their product, even though the value of their product is not very well represented by their hyped-up ad campaign. They've now been around for a couple of years, and a Google search on their name now yields nearly 2 million hits. Also, there is currently much confusion on the internet where their name gets mixed up with a magazine that goes by that same name, as well as the dish satellite company "DirecTV". Therefor, I think that it may be time to restart an article about them, to be vigilant to prevent any of their minions from commandeering their article for their own advert. purposes (as I'm sure they will attempt at least once or twice), and to set up a good disambiguation page to clarify which company is what.

What do you think?

Thanks,

Scott P. (talk) 15:11, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Looks like there was sockpuppetry associated with that article. I'd suggest creating an article on them under Wikipedia:Articles for creation. If you don't get feedback, drop me a line (I might not respond for a week or three, but I'm sort of around). tedder (talk) 11:01, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

TedderBot has been down since Dec 25

TedderBot made an attempt to run on December 25, and broke down. It has not run since then. As of this posting, it's been five days. — Maile (talk) 01:33, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Running it by hand now. I know why. I'll try to get it figured out. tedder (talk) 11:01, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
Tedder, you're still with us! I guess your having to hand-crank it might explain why the format looks different. Maybe I just have revised memory - but I thought the article titles used to be in bold. — Maile (talk) 14:59, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
They might have been bold in the ancient past, but they weren't recently- I looked in the article history to verify. tedder (talk) 16:23, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
Go back to November 9 on that. The article and the editor were in bold. That was about the time it quit running while you were on vacation. Maybe something happened elsewhere since then. — Maile (talk) 20:46, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

I just realized you are much younger than I thought! Happy New Year! DocOfSocTalk 07:39, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Question on AlexNewArtBot/Chile

Ahoy there! Since your bot has superseded the AlexNewArtBot, I'm directing this question to you. I notice that in the current rules for AlexNewArtBot/Chile, the ruleset does not flag new Chile articles that have a Chile project template on their talk pages (unless I missed something), and the bot should probably do that. Since the bot creator is banned but the bot appears to still be working, do you know to whom this query should be directed, or can/would you fix it? Thanks. — Sctechlaw (talk) 21:18, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

TedderBot

Looks like it's been on a smoke break for a few days now... --Esprqii (talk) 15:34, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

Oh, sorry, didn't see someone let you know about this back on Christmas. If you're still hand-running it, no worries. --Esprqii (talk) 15:35, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
No worries. It is dying from a java7 bug. I need to sort it out- hopefully soon. In other words, I'm aware it isn't running. tedder (talk) 19:17, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for all your work on this bot Tedder, I rely on it and use its results every day, so I really miss it when it's not working. Good luck in getting it back into good shape again. I am sure all the projects will be really happy to see some new results from Tedderbot. I Know I will. Thanks again, Invertzoo (talk) 14:06, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, I know it's still dead. I've gotta fix it. The bug is annoying. tedder (talk) 20:37, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
Good luck with fixing the bot. I really miss it, hope it will be alive soon. You are doing a great job, thanks for all the effort. - Darwinek (talk) 22:20, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Ditto for me. In the meantime, would it cause any problems if I manually added some post-December-28-tagged Oregon-related articles to the list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Oregon/Admin? I'm just thinking of manually adding the ones I'm aware of (at least 10, I think), and manual additions to that list wouldn't have to be comprehensive, as the bot will fill in any missed by me (or anyone else who'd manually added some) after it's fixed.  At least then, those new articles would begin showing up in the WP:ORE "recent changes" list when edited.  However, would it cause problems if I added articles there, but did not add the associated talk pages or other non-article pages (recently tagged for WP:ORE) to Wikipedia:WikiProject Oregon/Admin2? If it wouldn't cause any technical problems later, then the only downside I see is that my manually adding some might take some pressure off of you to fix the bot soon! <kidding/> :) SJ Morg (talk) 08:14, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
Ohhhhhh, /Admin. I thought you were talking about /Oregon. I better find that code, I think it's on a machine I turned off. tedder (talk) 17:12, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Looks like TedderBot is back on the job, hopefully on its own...cool! Either that or it has become sentient in which case we're all in trouble. --Esprqii (talk) 18:50, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

I fixed the "searchbot" part of TedderBot by hacking around the idempotency issue with comparators in Java7. The /admin bot is still MIA. But it should be an easier fix. I just need to turn on the little machine and remember how it gets run. tedder (talk) 19:53, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Wisconsin

Hi-I was looking at the new articles at WikiProject Wisconsin and there are two articles entries that are scramble, not complete. Would you please look at this. The bot lists new articles about Wisconsin and Milwaukee there. Thank you-RFD (talk) 19:55, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

I notice that the Cheshire search archive stopped displaying new items properly in November last year, but on investigation it looks as if the problem might just be a limit to the number of entries per page that the la & user templates will expand. Would it be ok to move old entries to a subpage, to get around this problem? Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 17:00, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks!

The bot was so nice to have back again! Thanks for your work on it. But did it stop again? Sorry it is hard for you to fix. Invertzoo (talk) 23:51, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

User:AlexNewArtBot/EducationSearchResult

User:AlexNewArtBot/EducationSearchResult contains many articles that are only indirectly related to education. This list would be more useful to me if all the articles related to sports were listed separately, perhaps in User:AlexNewArtBot/SportsSearchResult.

Van Allen radiation belt

Hello, Tedder,

About the following webpage: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Van_Allen_radiation_belt

The last part of the first paragraph reads: "There are three distinct belts, with energetic electrons forming the outer belt and a combination of protons and electrons forming the inner belt. In addition, the radiation belts contain lesser amounts of other nuclei, such as alpha particles. The belts pose a hazard to satellites, which must protect their sensitive components with adequate shielding if their orbit spends significant time in the radiation belts."

Well, it seems to me that there are two belts. If you read carefully the last part of the first paragraph, and then see the draw in the right side of the webpage...

A part of the Spanish section of the Wikipedia

http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinturones_de_Van_Allen

reads: "Hay dos cinturones de Van Allen:...". (There are two Van Allen belts:...").

Frankly, I do not know who is right and who is wrong.

TedderBot/NewPageSearch

I recently reviewed User:TedderBot/NewPageSearch/Good/errors and noticed that the entry for National colours of Canada received a score of -50 for containing the pattern "\{\{or". Perhaps the pattern should be amended, as it catches {{or}} (rightfully so) but also {{orphan}} (perhaps unintentionally). I don't think the latter affects page quality to the same extent as the former, so should be re-weighted or eliminated. The bot also mistakenly catches the pattern "\Wlist" within the URL of a ref ("/list" in this case). Mindmatrix 13:32, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Malcolm Thomas at Pepperdine

I saw your revert of my edit on Malcolm Thomas at the Pepperdine University page. I kept his name on the list of alumni but removed the photo, since it seems silly to show him playing for another school. How that's an acceptable compromisePrincetoniac (talk) 21:33, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

It's isn't really about compromise- I don't care what photos are shown, but the user attended the school. tedder (talk) 20:04, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Edits at Cal Poly Talk pages

Please be aware that you're restoring comments of blocked/de facto banned editor Mangoeater1000 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · logs · block log · arb · rfc · lta · SPI · cuwiki). He or she has been disrupting those articles for quite some time now and has proven quite adept at dodging blocks. You really shouldn't be supporting or enabling him or her by allowing him or her to participate in a discussion that is specifically aimed at protecting the articles from his or her block-evading editing. ElKevbo (talk) 19:17, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for making me aware of that, but keep in mind the context of banned editors isn't immediately apparent from edit summaries like this. Next time can you WP:AGF, please? tedder (talk) 20:04, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Noted the same. The last new articles were added on 24 March, and were from 23 March, after that the bot has progressively been gobbling up the newest articles in the list. Since the new article function is very useful and much appreciated, it would be very appreciated if you could have a look at this. Regards, Tomas e (talk) 12:08, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Since the bot is so important to a number of projects, and breaks down every few months, could you make the code available for others to fix? Piotrus- it's already available on Github. I'd be thrilled if someone read through and figured out what was wrong. Otherwise I'll try to get to it later this week. tedder (talk) 14:53, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
A change was made in MediaWiki 1.21/wmf12 (installed on en.wiki March 11, 2013) that affects how the QueryContinue functionality works in the Java class WMFWiki11.parseQueryContinue(). They changed the attribute name from "rcstart" to "rccontinue" and added an additional value to the end of the timestamp to make it unique. I noticed that TedderBot is using the legacy QueryContinue. There is a new version mw:API:Query#Continuing_queries. Tedderbot enhancement

I don't know if it is viable for Tedderbot to tag the talkpages of the NewArticles with appropriate Wikiprojects, as in most cases it return perfect results. I guess using the same dataset and codes (I am not from a computer background) after some modifications, it will be able to add those tags very easily. Please consider adding this functionality to the code. Amartyabag TALK2ME 03:29, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi, is tedderbot still working? The pages I usually follow no longer get any updates. --Soman (talk) 22:21, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
It's disabled for a short time because it's using an API that was changed underneath it. I need to update the code and put it on a different machine before restarting it. I'd hoped to do so this weekend but so far I've had no weekends (where weekend = "not working long days") recently. It'll be soon- I saw the underlying code was updated, so getting it running should be easyish. tedder (talk) 22:32, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

To Mr. Tedder

Dear Mr. Tedder,

I am writing to you this letter, as there is a major problem and I believe that you are the best person to talk to about it.

First of all I would like to make a few comments on the profile that you have in wikipedia, telling you that I find it very smart.

In fact I chose to write to you out of a large number of administrators, as it seems that we have a lot of things in common. Unfortunately you are not mentioning anything about your motorcycles, but I would like you to know, that I am a great fun of them too, that's why I have an old collective BMW and a Honda of 1988 (both of them are in absolutely perfect condition).

The reason that I am communicating you, is because someone that was using the name : "Panagiotis Xenos-Kokoletsis" appears in a number of pages in wikipedia and this is a major problem for me, as it is creating a confusion that turned out whenever I have applied for a job, because all of the employers are asking me whether this person is me.

I would like to tell you, that this name is extremely rare, as we are only four people in the whole planet with this name (me and three cousins of mine) .

The problem though, is that I am keep on loosing job positions, as the employers can not know whether this person is me, or not. As you can understand this has as a consequence that I can not cope with the financial obligations that I have towards my family.

I will kindly ask you to delete these pages from wikipedia, as can not do it myself.

The links for two of them, that I found just now are the following :

Salting of The Stunners, and a new article at The Stunners (group)

Hi,

You salted The Stunners, after it was repeatedly deleted. Another editor has created a new article at The Stunners (group), and there's a request to move it to The Stunners.

I've not checked thoroughly, but from my quick glance, I think the new article is suitable for Wikipedia (or at least none of the previous reasons for deletion apply now). I've gone into a little more detail at Talk:The Stunners (group)#Requested move.

I wanted to point this discussion out to you, as you're the person who salted the article, and performed two of the deletions.

me_and 16:20, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

It would appear that the salted versions are the same group as The Stunners (group). Please restore the deleted content whilst at it; there may be useful content there. Thank you.--Launchballer 16:40, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

Fingers crossed

And good luck with fixing the bot; I hope you are able to. We all appreciate your hard work very much! Invertzoo (talk) 17:20, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Annapolis High School requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. TedderBot

Someone notified us botops at WP:BON that you have difficulties with TedderBot. Can I help in someway. What language is it written in?—cyberpower ChatOnline 11:25, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

Cyberpower- it's written in Java. I just haven't had time to get it all installed on Eclipse, update the wikijava dependency, and find a new machine to run it on. (I have the machine, this is just a few hours of work and I haven't had a few hours). Here's the repo. I have a lot of failures in Eclipse that I don't have time to deal with, but I suspect the real problem is on this line. I should have time to deal with it soon- the joys of startup life. tedder (talk) 18:31, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
Followup- I did a couple of fixes in WMFWiki11 (locally) and the only missing bits are "rvnew" and "size". If I saw the raw API output of "get revisions for page" I could probably blindly fix that, but it's going to take me a while to figure out how to see that output. tedder (talk) 18:49, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
Followup x2: fixed the two WMFWiki11* files, five more to fix, but they should be easier. tedder (talk) 04:45, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
Oooh, Java. I took advanced classes in high school. Last I touched it was in 10th grade though. I just finished as a college freshman. :p—cyberpower ChatOnline 12:18, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

A suggestion

Dear Tedder:

I'm writing with regard to the "Alex new art bot". I've noticed that for many of the articles I've written, clicking on the "What links here" utility yields a large number pages created by your bot. Obviously, these cannot serve to provide readers with any further information about the topics of the articles. Also, after a certain point the articles are no longer "new".

It occurred to me that the "What links here" utility, which I use a great deal, could be made more useful if, after some decent interval, you removed the pages created by your bot. (I'm fully aware that I could alter my Preferences to keep these pages from popping up, but I suspect that the average Wikipedia reader does not know this.)

So, what would you think of taking the older pages down?

Yours sincerely, Opus33 (talk) 19:03, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

You can filter by namespace, right? But yeah, I actually really dislike having the archive/history pages. I'll probably do away with them next time I'm modifying the bot, as they are fairly painful to maintain. tedder (talk) 19:16, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
That would be great -- thank you. Opus33 (talk) 03:01, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Tedderbot multiple projects

Tedder, I'm seeing here you're having trouble with the bot. Just want to confirm. It looks to me like Women's History Project and Wikiproject Texas have not been updated since March, and WikiProject Hawaii has not been updated since early April. It's OK if they haven't because of the issues you've had with the bot. But I just want to confirm if those time periods seem about right to you. Thanks for your time. — Maile (talk) 00:05, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

Yep, they'll update. When I restart the bot it always begins at the top of the list and fails before it hits H, let alone T or W. At least I can work on it now! tedder (talk) 02:28, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
OK. Well, good luck on this. — Maile (talk) 11:32, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
Found the bug that was causing it to start from the top, it's steaming through entries now. Hopefully it'll process everything this weekend, and then I can get it back into a schedule. I also sent the updates to GitHub so the code can be used if I go MIA :) tedder (talk) 17:57, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
Glad to hear you are making some progress with fixing this invaluable bot. Best wishes, Invertzoo (talk) 14:42, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
Excellent to see some progress and keep up the good work! Is the current rate of progress representantive of what to expect for the days and weeks ahead? I notice that the bot was on A* projects until 12 May, that it took 13 May for the B* projects and that the C* projects have been worked on 14 May and continue to be worked on today, 15 May. At that rate I suppose it will take at least until mid-June to reach the end of the project list? Since I'm mostly involved in one S* project and one W* project, I'm sort of curious. :-) Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
No, the problem is that there is a *lot* of data to search and process. Once it does this processing it'll have a shorter timerange to process, eventually we'll be back to running the search daily. But it's going to take a wile since it was down for so long. Right now I'm just monitoring it to make sure it doesn't stay crashed for long- it seems to take about an hour per search topic, so if it appears to be dead for several hours feel free to ping me here. tedder (talk) 17:37, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

What happened to project Biomes? I see a large time gap on May 13 between Belgium (01:28) and Birds (13:35). --Bamyers99 (talk) 20:13, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

If it dies on a project and I restart it, it will skip that project and go to the next one. That's so it doesn't get stuck in the same place. Unfortunately that means you have to wait for it to circle back around. I may put it on a big server for the short-term, maybe that'll help it get through this stuff sooner. tedder (talk) 20:46, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Glad to see you're working on this again. Just thought I would let you know that in regard to Architecture, apart from the big one on 11 May, there have been no further updates. Hope you can get around to it soon.--Ipigott (talk) 08:13, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, but Architecture needs to wait its turn in line. It's been almost a week for Architecture but it's been 6 weeks for WomensHistory and Wyoming. However, I put the code on a bigger server and it is processing searches in 10-30 minutes instead of 50+ minutes (and crashing, which loses many hours until I see it). tedder (talk) 22:01, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks so much for the new listings for Project Gastropods that are emanating from your bot! It is so great to have it up and running again! Many sincere thanks! Invertzoo (talk) 20:51, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Cheers! tedder (talk) 21:58, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
Thanks on behalf of a couple of non-gastropod projects as well, the lists are really useful. :-) Tomas e (talk) 09:44, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Wisconsin new articles-

Many thanks for getting your bot up and running. I put the Wisconsin WikiProject template on the new articles relating to Wisconsin and Milwaukee and add categories as need be so we can keep track of he articles. Your bot is very important to the project. Thanks again-RFD (talk) 15:14, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Indeed! I was glad to see Wisconsin run, since it's at the lexicographic end of the search run. tedder (talk) 16:29, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Project Gastropod results

We now have no results more recent than 12 May, 8 days ago. Hope this is a temporary glitch? Best wishes to you Tedder and to your valuable bot. Invertzoo (talk) 12:36, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, but it's running now! Generally you should get results every 1-4 days, but things are still bumpy. tedder (talk) 16:41, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Early april results lost?

Glad to see the bot is up and running. Looking at the history of WP:POLAND updates ([3]), I see that the results from first half of April where never reported - was that intentional? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:39, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

I tried to get the bot to go as far back as possible, but the time gap was too great :( If you look at the edit summary you can see a big period of blanks in there. tedder (talk) 03:49, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
Fair enough, I was just wondering. Thanks again for getting it up and running again! Now I am going to start working on the backlog :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 11:39, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

Tedderbot resting?

Is the Tedderbot resting? --Bamyers99 (talk) 01:31, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm running it manually every 3-4 days right now. I should switch it around a little bit so it runs more cheaply, but at this point I'm happy that I can run it again! tedder (talk) 03:13, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Add bot?

Hi. Thanks for these bots. How does one start a similar bot run as Wikipedia:WikiProject Czech Republic/New article announcements for Slovakia? In ictu oculi (talk) 14:35, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

Slovakia is already included in the bot run. I added the results to Wikipedia:WikiProject Slovakia/New article announcements. --Bamyers99 (talk) 23:36, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Oregon Admin page

Hi, tedder. I've been reading the previous posts here (and your replies) over the past month, and more than once I decided there was no need for me to leave a message about tedderbot, because it appeared that if I just remained patient, eventually the bot would get back to updating the following WikiProject Oregon page: Wikipedia:WikiProject Oregon/Admin — which is the page that logs all new or renamed articles to enable them to appear in the various "recent changes" lists for the project. However, from the most recent posts here, I'm starting to wonder if that page got overlooked; it was last updated on April 28. If the bot isn't ready to get back to automatic (daily) updates, at least a manual update once every week or two would be welcome, if practical. As everyone else here often says (but it's true), the bot is very useful. Thanks. SJ Morg (talk) 11:12, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Second the motion. It's been too quiet around WP:ORE... --Esprqii (talk) 19:44, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
I concur as well, and also move that we clone Ted. -Pete (talk) 19:53, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
Yes, we've been working hard on the tedder cloning technology. --Esprqii (talk)
It's a bad idea. I want to be on the record as saying that. But getting the oregon /admin should be pretty easy, unfortunately it's a different bot and code than the others I've resurrected. Soon. tedder (talk) 22:51, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
It's been another two weeks since the last post here (and a month since my original post). Is this still on your radar? SJ Morg (talk) 10:29, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

Tedderbot stopped

It looks like Tedderbot stopped after the 'Good' rules. --Bamyers99 (talk) 19:47, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

It's scheduled, runs every day, during a specific time window. So it shuts down at 1000 UTC. tedder (talk) 01:01, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
BTW, I just moved the schedule to "~12 hours 3x/week" instead of "8 hours every day". It'll be a little more efficient for me- about $4/week instead of $7/week and should still meet my goal of every search getting executed twice per week. tedder (talk) 07:47, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
When you say $4/week, do you mean cash you are paying or time spent monitoring the bot that you could be earning real money? --Bamyers99 (talk) 14:20, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
Cash paying the bot- 12c/hour on an AWS medium. I can't use spot instances because it's configured through opsworks, and the instance size is because the bot is written in Java, which is a memory pig. tedder (talk) 14:41, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
When you said earlier that you were switching servers, I assumed that you were moving from Toolserver to Tool Labs. --Bamyers99 (talk) 21:35, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
The drama involved with the toolserver/toollabs is.. excessive. And the freedom to develop it myself. I'm just finishing a couple months working ~100hr/week, I can reduce the costs by an order of magnitude by using spot instances. So that's about $2/month and I still have my independence. tedder (talk) 22:15, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Cool. I just worked on the monster Cycling ruleset that took 30 minutes to run. Removed 100k. --Bamyers99 (talk) 01:34, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Sweet. I suspect there are many rulesets that aren't viewed at all- I've always thought a good project would be to put a banner on top of the rule results and ask for people to link a project in the ruleset. Then after 60 days I could just skip any rulesets that haven't been updated. tedder (talk) 19:06, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi. I wanted to let you know that Charles Hines, which is linked to in your userspace page User:TedderBot/NewPageSearch/URBLPNT/errors, has now been created. It is a DAB page that includes a link to Major General Charles A. Hines (Ret), past President of PVAMU, also newly created. Update your link if necessary. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 13:50, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

That page is automagically generated by a bot- it reruns a few times per week. tedder (talk) 14:58, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Tedderbot Unicode script character class support

Java 7 includes support for Unicode script character classes, ie. \p{Cyrillic}, although they specify it as \p{IsCyrillic}. User:AlexNewArtBot/Bulgaria is a ruleset that uses it. Does AWS support Java 7? --Bamyers99 (talk) 23:14, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Hmm. I'm using a freely-licensed version of Java. Let's see.. here's the installation package, it's OpenJDK 7 which is the ref implementation of Java7, so.. it should work. Have you tried some "obvious matches" to see if it works? tedder (talk) 01:49, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
Hey Bamyers99 I put your patch in and just uploaded it. So next time it runs it should support classes. Let me know! tedder (talk) 20:49, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
Still getting the skipped pattern error on Greece which ran on the 16 July. --Bamyers99 (talk) 00:26, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
I'll wait for it to run again and then I'll dig back into the jar. Clearly I built it wrong or put it in the wrong place.. or built it without your patch. tedder (talk) 14:57, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

hey talk page stalkers- can someone fix this?

the table of contents on Catherine_McCord's page goes full-page-width. I couldn't figure out why and it bothers me. tedder (talk) 01:53, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

TOC appears fine for me. Sure it isn't like a script issue or something?--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 03:54, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
Huh, thanks. Must be a script/CSS issue. So weird. tedder (talk) 04:25, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

a beautiful weekend for bots

Just a semi-regular plea for resurrection of the bot that updates the Wikipedia:WikiProject Oregon/Admin page. See here for cosigners. --Esprqii (talk) 19:50, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Yes, please. The last update was almost four months ago (on April 28). And don't forget /Admin2 also, the list of non-article pages. Thanks. SJ Morg (talk) 08:36, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
Who are you people and what have you done with tedder? Valfontis (talk) 23:33, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
Heck, we thought he was with you! --Esprqii (talk) 23:39, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
I think I know what happened to him: he is being consumed by a high tech startup, a type of company which doesn't let its employees go home for months at a time. —EncMstr (talk) 23:43, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello nice Tedder, any chance that you can make the bot work again for WikiProject Gastropods and WikiProject Bivalves? I really rely on the bot results to help me recruit new members and polish up new articles. Many thanks, Invertzoo (talk) 20:25, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

I have posted a request at WP:BOTREQ to see if another bot operator can pickup the source code and run it. Ganeshk (talk) 00:36, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

I have created a WikiProject Page List bot that determines which pages have a WikiProject banner on their talk pages. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Oregon/Admin for a trial run. I am running it manually on my laptop at the moment. Hope to submit a bot approval request shortly. --Bamyers99 (talk) 01:46, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello Tedder: I'm interested in the prospect of updating the Wikipedia:New articles by topic page to include food and beverage articles. It would be a great improvement to update WikiProject Food and drink with bot-assisted entries. I've been updating the WP F&D new articles page manually, but it is very time-consuming and tedious, both to find the articles and in updating the page. Upon discovering the New articles by topic page, I'm hoping to automate the process to make things easier for everyone. Please respond at your convenience, and thank you for your consideration. Northamerica1000(talk) 02:27, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

I have created a set of bot rules for WikiProject Food and Drink. The initial set of rules will look for new articles with categories that have food or beverage or drink in the name. It will also look for new articles with stub templates with food or drink in the name. Let me know if you would like more categories or stubs to be search for, ie. Category:Food stub templates, Category:Foods. Once the bot starts operating again, you should see new articles about twice a week. I don't know when the bot will start operating again. It last ran on Aug 22, 2013. --Bamyers99 (talk) 01:51, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
Hello User:Bamyers99: Thanks very much for setting this up. It would be a great addition for the Category:Foods and Category:Food stub templates to be included. I've tried my hand at adding them to the User:AlexNewArtBot/FoodDrink page, but I'm unsure if there are other procedures that need to be taken. Northamerica1000(talk) 05:04, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
Sorry for the confusion, each stub or subcategory must be entered individually. The rule /\[\[Category:[^\]]*food/ will match any category with 'food' anywhere in the name including Category:Foods. The rule is equivalent to [[Category:*food*]], where * matches any number of characters. The matching is case insensitive. I have added a bunch of rules to User:AlexNewArtBot/FoodDrink. --Bamyers99 (talk) 15:30, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
Hello User:Bamyers99: Thanks for the significant update to the User:AlexNewArtBot/FoodDrink page; it's greatly appreciated! Northamerica1000(talk) 23:10, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
I deleted 100's of false positive results from the SearchResult page. I need to analyze the Match log to fine tune the rules. --Bamyers99 (talk) 00:14, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
BA- thanks for the fix. I'll get it up and reply to you privately too. tedder (talk) 05:39, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

Bot down

Not active since the 22nd :( --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:55, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

Have noticed the same. Since these new article lists are very useful for the projects, and highly appreciate, it would be good to see the bot up to speed again, or at least to hear some news about if or when we can expect it to be running again. Best regards, Tomas e (talk) 12:40, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
Yes I am definitely interested in what is going on, I am sure a lot of articles that should have been speeded are sneaking by now that the new article lists are not being updated. I need User:AlexNewArtBot/HipHopSearchResult back D: STATic message me! 04:40, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
Argh :/ I don't know why it's not running, I'm paying for it to run on a server. tedder (talk) 15:23, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello, Great to see these listings running again. Thank you! Regarding the 'Forestry' new articles search, I note that the listings have not been particularly useful. Looking at the search terms, I think it might, in part, be because of the inclusion of the term 'wood' in the search terms. It simply turns up too many things! E.g. 'Woodlawn' 'wood structure' etc. Could you please remove that particular search term from future 'Forestry' new article searches? Then perhaps we'll see if there are any other problematic search terms, too. Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 18:31, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

You saw the search terms, right? Feel free to make any changes necessary. Those keyword search pages should be owned by subject experts, not me. If you are worried about breaking it, link the page here when you are done modifying it. I'll help or someone else will, and it tries to catch poorly-formatted lines and give a log entry about it, so you won't break the whole engine. (though apparently I'm good at breaking the whole engine) tedder (talk) 18:36, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Yup, thanks. Cool, will do... Kind regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 21:36, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

The new article by topic bot...

This page seems to have a lot of false detection... like the page i craeated, LeWa OS, which is a variant of Android mobile operating system, seems like as it's mentioned jelly bean which is a version code of android in the article, this bot included the page falsefully...C933103 (talk) 16:42, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the note, I have turned off the jelly and bean keyword detection if android is found in the article. --Bamyers99 (talk) 17:13, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

Newly created articles

Hi, just wondering why is List of Demon lords (Dungeons & Dragons) listed as a newly created article at Wikipedia:WikiProject Astronomy. False detection? Regards. Gaba (talk) 14:51, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

Yep, it's a false positive. It scored 35 points, which is the point threshold for reporting articles for the Astronomy project. Here is the article scoring: User:TedderBot/NewPageSearch/Astro/errors. If Dungeons and Dragons articles are frequently showing up, I can exclude them. --Bamyers99 (talk) 17:28, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, I thought so. I'll remove it from the article then. Cheers. Gaba (talk) 21:15, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
Just realized I can't remove it apparently. Nevermind, it's not such a big deal anyway. Gaba (talk) 21:16, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

Bot down again?

Hello, I just noticed that it's six days ago since TedderBot did its most recent edit. Before, it was running at >1 edits per project new page list per day, so I was just wondering if it is down again? Greetings, Tomas e (talk) 15:41, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

The backup bot operator (Cyberpower678) is on a wikibreak. I am doing a manual run on my laptop and updating the new page lists on Tuesdays and Fridays for the following projects: Architecture, Astronomy, Biomes, Bivalves, Cuisine, Cycling, FoodDrink, Forestry, Gastropods, Michigan, Oregon. Would you like me to add your project(s) to the list? --Bamyers99 (talk) 20:20, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

Hey bamyers99 (talk · contribs) should I turn the keys to TedderBot over to you? I don't know what the rule is, but .. yeah. tedder (talk) 23:36, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Tedder, good to hear from you. I have been debating what to do. I don't want to step on your or Cyberpower678s toes. If you are terminating TedderBot, then I will create a BRFA for a new bot account to replace it. --Bamyers99 (talk) 00:54, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
I think it's best for me to retire the bot. Please step on my toes as necessary, ping me here (or best, by email) if you need assistance or endorsement. tedder (talk) 21:04, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
I have created a BRFA for InceptionBot. --Bamyers99 (talk) 00:45, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

InceptionBot has been approved and is running daily. Thank you Tedder for running TedderBot all of these years. --Bamyers99 (talk) 00:31, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

problems with the Disabled Veterans National Foundation article and a conflicted editor about 2 years ago? You seemed to have a very constructive and professional response to that person. If you're still interested in working on fixing what is clearly a problematic article, pls see my note "Paid Editor requesting assistance" at Talk:Disabled Veterans National Foundation and let me know if you're willing to review my suggestions. I'll probably begin posting the suggestions tomorrow. TransparencyServices (talk) 15:41, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Just to let you know TS, the only reason Tedder took an interest in that article is because I asked him to take a look at it because of my slight COI, and I know he is very busy right now. (You will notice he hasn't edited much for months.) I'd suggest taking your request to a larger forum as I suggested on your talk page, in case he doesn't have time to work on this. Good luck, Valfontis (talk) 17:17, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
Thank you Valfontis! I did check it out, but I saw there were 107 pending requests for assistance, so it seemed like targeted requests might work better. But, I'll take your advice now. TransparencyServices (talk) 17:29, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Photo in Willamette Week

FYI, Willamette Week used your photo of Central Catholic High School, and not only in its web edition of the article but also in the print edition. The latter occurred a week later, which is where I discovered it, reading the paper yesterday. I left details and links on the image's talk page at Commons. For the print version, the photo was cropped to approximately square. Both were credited – to "Tedder / CC" – and I don't know whether anyone at WW read the note you left at your Commons user page. Because the headline and date of the print edition's use differed from the online use, I placed some of the details (such as page number) in a hidden note, viewable only in edit mode. Thanks! I got a boop when you hit the talk page. It's amusing to see where my photos turn up. I'm fine with name or 'tedder'. tedder (talk) 13:43, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Museum hacks and museum edits

Hello there!

Upcoming events:

  • February 6–8: The third annual ArtBytes Hackathon at the Walters Art Museum! This year Wikimedia DC is partnering with the Walters for a hack-a-thon at the intersection of art and technology, and I would like to see Wikimedia well represented.
  • February 11: The monthly WikiSalon, same place as usual. RSVP on Meetup or just show up!
  • February 15: Wiki Loves Small Museums in Ocean City. Mary Mark Ockerbloom, with support from Wikimedia DC, will be leading a workshop at the Small Museum Association Conference on how they can contribute to Wikipedia. Tons of representatives from GLAM institutions will be present, and we are looking for volunteers. If you would like to help out, check out "Information for Volunteers".

I am also pleased to announce events for Wikimedia DC Black History Month with Howard University and NPR. Details on those events soon.

If you have any questions or have any requests, please email me at james.hare@wikimediadc.org.

See you there! – James Hare

West Adams HS

As part of the ongoing Wikipedia pedophile-enabling conspiracy, some other editors and I deleted your edit about West Adams Preparatory High School. The head of our cell posted a request for dissenting opinions on the talk page. Dingsuntil (talk) 02:05, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. I'm not really opposed to its removal, though the whole talk page thread *is* interesting. tedder (talk) 16:03, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

Copyvio on Doernbecher photo

Looks like yours with no attribution. They even kept the file name. Aboutmovies (talk) 14:55, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

Maybe they thought it was Doernbecher's (even is it's on the OHSU website). The Daily Mail say the copyright is "unknown", kinda like the source of lots of their "facts". Valfontis (talk) 23:29, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
Just sent a couple of bitchy tweets. Valf- the OHSU version has a different filename, but it's clearly the Wikimedia version. I'm mildly tempted to send a DMCA takedown to several sources. tedder (talk) 23:39, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
Four grumpygrams so far. tedder (talk) 23:53, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Half the ones listed here are unattributed. Is there a point in complaining? I've mostly been tracking them and forgetting about it. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 02:00, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
If you just send the author of the story an email they usually take care of it quickly by adding proper attribution. I've sent like three to O-live in the last month or so, and one to the Portland Tribune people. Aboutmovies (talk) 06:54, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
Dennis Bratland (talk · contribs) I write/complain so perhaps people use better behavior/attribution in the future. tedder (talk) 17:59, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

Complaints/attribution

Failwhale pings

Hey Tedder. I got a ping here, but don't see myself mentioned anywhere. Let me know if there was something I should look at. Cheers. CorporateM (Talk) 18:07, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

Ditto. Probably a messed up tech thingee again. Let me know if I was really needed. GregJackP Boomer! 18:08, 28
Ditto. No big deal. Brianhe (talk) 19:05, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

June 2015 (UTC) +1 Victuallers (talk) 18:21, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

I was pinged but I like seeing these things. Right now the Wikimedia community promises attribution to contributors but has no infrastructure whatsoever to support contributors whose content is reused without attribution. I am not sure what the community should provide to assist such users, but there should be something more than nothing. Good places to start might be documentation explaining the issue and form letters to send out. I wish that there could be an on-wiki transparent process and tool for sending and timestamping copyright violation emails to off-wiki organizations, as in this case, so that this is a burden shared by the Wikimedia community rather than an individual dispute between contributor and copyright violator. Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:22, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
I accidentally transcluded Dennis's page instead of using the User template to link to it, and apparently that will provoke the notifications. So, I'm sorry to whoever got it. Feel free to sign the above post like Victuallers did just so I can see the scope of the damage. tedder (talk) 18:50, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
I hope you all liked my user page. Sorry the place is such a mess. If I'd known company was coming I'd have cleaned up. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 19:13, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
Me too No idea why. —Justin (koavf)TCM 03:21, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Floccinaucinihilipilification

Please unprotect Floccinaucinihilipilification. There is no need for this null article to have full protection. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:22, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Did you see the page history? tedder (talk) 16:11, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Vegavairbob/Barnstarbob

Hi, Tedder. Via a circuitous route, I just came to see the edit history of Chevrolet Vega. Looks like it's being monopolized by an anonymous editor who makes tons of sequential small, tendentious edits and claims to have a monopoly on what is "correct", and rejects any input at all from other editors. And oh, hey, look at that, his IP resolves to the very same area of New York as that of User:Vegavairbob and his many socks, who was busted and blocked (repeatedly and finally permanently by you) for exactly that behavior on exactly that article. Looks like it's time to take out the trash...again. Pogorrhœa (talk) 02:07, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

The IP edits stopped in late June- that's five or six weeks ago. tedder (talk) 16:06, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
