WikiCup 2022 May newsletter
The second round of the 2022 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 115 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top seven contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 11 featured articles and the 79 good articles achieved in total by contestants.
Our top scorers in round 2 were:
- Epicgenius, with 1264 points from 2 featured article, 4 good articles and 18 DYKs. Epicgenius was a finalist last year but has now withdrawn from the contest as he pursues a new career path.
- AryKun, with 1172 points from two featured articles, one good article and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews.
- Bloom6132, with 605 points from 44 in the news items and 4 DYKs.
- Sammi Brie, with 573 points from 8 GAs and 21 DYKs.
- Ealdgyth, with 567 points from 11 GAs and 34 good and featured article reviews.
- Panini!, with 549 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and several other sources.
- Lee Vilenski, with 545 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and a number of reviews.
The rules for featured and good article reviews require the review to be of sufficient length; brief quick fails and very short reviews will generally not be awarded points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. DYK for Nutty Narrows Bridge
On 10 April 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Nutty Narrows Bridge, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Nutty Narrows Bridge went unused on its first day, despite attempts to lure traffic with peanuts? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Nutty Narrows Bridge. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Nutty Narrows Bridge), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. GA Reassessment
Hi, you may not have remembered, but you reassessed George Town, Penang's GA status back in 2018. It has been found out that the entire GA process was done via deceptive sockpuppetry. This could have had influenced your judgement, not to mention the sockmaster also commenting on the reassessment you started. Do see this for more information. Paul K. What is your problem?
I am not the first person to come to your talk page to complain about this sort of issue.
You are not the arbiter of what does or does not stand in articles relating to Washington, though you certainly act as if you do hold that role. This is not your encyclopedia, it's not my encyclopedia, it's our encyclopedia. I've gotten used to making edits that improve stubs around Eastern Washington and then waiting for you to come in eliminate them to say nothing more than, effectively, "because I said so."
Next time you make a revert to an edit that I, or anyone, makes, especially those that include legitimate sources, please provide more than, "not a reliable source" when you make the change. Please, do like we do and cite your source as to why it isn't. Then, I'll listen. Otherwise, you're coming across as someone on a power trip saying because I said so. I look forward to continuing to contribute to Wikipedia and unfortunately expect to keep encountering you acting like someone on a power trip.
Sincerely, (full and real name) Will Maupin SpokaneWilly (talk) 05:19, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
- @SpokaneWilly: Just link to proper source (aka the Census's actual website) next time. I'm just here to clean up sources to comply with WP:V, such as those topographic maps you've misused to the point of conducting orignal research. You've been around the project long enough to know these things, so please don't accuse others of ownership without due cause. SounderBruce 05:22, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
- censusreporter.org cites its sources (literally the census bureau). This is far from the first time you've undone an edit of mine (and many others) because it didn't meet your standards. censusreporter.org is cited in many other articles. Why? Because it takes raw census data and makes it public through visualizations. It's not original research to cite a source that cites a direct source. You have two options here, one is to keep things as they were in 2013, and the other is to use real census data from 2020. Which serves the readers of a given article better? I cited my sources, and they're legitimate sources, and I did it better than you did. See ya next edit. SpokaneWilly (talk) 05:30, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
- Do you have any response? It's been a day. You have no response. You are less reliable than the sources you have issue with. Defend yourself the way you want people like me to defend our sources (which we do 1,000 times better than you). You're unreliable. Henceforth, Wikipedia is better without you. SpokaneWilly (talk) 06:53, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

Pickleball article
You recently removed bolding for three individuals mentioned in the Pickleball article in the History section. The reason the three individuals were bolded is because none of them warrant their own article, but they do each have a redirect to the Pickleball#History section. The bolding is to allow anyone being redirected to the Pickleball article to locate the name they had typed in. OvertAnalyzer (talk) 17:28, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
- @OvertAnalyzer: While bolding a redirect is allowed, it's generally only used for when the redirected term/subject has their own standalone section in the article. The three bolded individuals would not be notable enough to have their own article and having overcoverage in the parent Pickleball article would be unnecessary cruft. Want any aerial photos of Seattle places or Olympic National Park area?
Hiya SounderBruce! I'm heading out to the Seattle Area, as well as Olympic National Park. A lot of my amateur photography is on my good ol' DJI Mini 2, and I was wondering if you wanted any places in the Seattle area aerially photographed? I can't legally fly in the national park, but I'm heading to areas such as Forks, Washington and Port Angeles, Washington, which are outside of the NP boundaries, so I can legally fly there. Here's my current list for Seattle: Climate Pledge Arena, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Amazon Spheres, T-Mobile Park, Lumen Field, and a random view of the Port of Seattle. Port Angeles has some weird DJI drone restrictions that make it almost impossible to fly in, so I'm not sure about there. Finally, I have nothing to get a photo of in Forks other than a aerial view of downtown. If you have anyplace in specific you want photographed, just reply! I'd love to help out the Seattle area Wikipedia pages. Cheers! Sea Cow (talk) 23:58, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Sea Cow: I've been thinking about acquiring a drone of my own, so I have a list of places that would fit the bill:
- Either of the floating bridges, especially the west side of the SR 520 bridge over the arboretum (where there's a new approach under construction) and the center of the I-90 bridge (where there's light rail construction)
- The West Seattle Bridge, which is currently under reconstruction for emergency repairs. Fairly close to the Port.
- Colman Dock, the city's main ferry terminal that is also under reconstruction and close to the Port.
- If you're able to get out to the Eastside, there's a few interesting spots I think would be worth the time:
- The Microsoft Redmond campus, which is undergoing a major rebuilding
- Bellevue's Spring District neighborhood, which is a leading example of transit-oriented development
- As for Seqium, depending on the timing of your arrival you might be able to get some good shots of the lavender fields in bloom. There's also Dungeness Spit, famed for its connection to the crab of the same name, but it might be too close to the restricted zone (which is used for submarine testing). Cheers and enjoy the trip. SounderBruce 19:32, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
- Welp, as obvious, I'm back from the trip. Thanks for cleaning up the large amounts of issues and MOS whoopsies I had. Uploading 50 something images in the middle of the night doesn't exactly make me be on point with my editing skills. I got a lot of great photos, but my plans to the photograph Redmond and the Bridges fell through due to good ol' Pacific Northwest rainy weather. You can expect more photos and a lot of video to be uploaded over the next few days (mostly gopro stuff). Brace yourself...???? Anyways, it was a great trip and it was a beautiful area. Thank you again. Cheers! Sea Cow (talk) 05:40, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Sea Cow: The images alone are a great contribution and are much appreciated. I don't mind tidying up, as it's a good warm-up as I return to normal editing after my own long road trip whilst procrastinating on photo editing. Apologies for the rain, this spring has been the wettest since 1948 and is only just letting up. SounderBruce 05:42, 7 June 2022 (UTC)

Feedback request
Hey Bruce! Hope all is well with you. I wanted to get your feedback on a sort of beta test on a new project: Template:American transit ridership.
As you know, trying to keep the daily and annual ridership updated on most agency pages is a game of wack-a-mole. Some pages get a lot of love and are regularly updated, some may go years between updates. My thought is that putting all of that data in one central location will allow for one page to be updated, and have that trickle down to all agency pages at one times.
So... I've added my proposed changes to the Seattle Streetcar and Trolleybuses in Seattle pages because they provide a good idea of the functionality I am trying to include.
I would love to get your thoughts on any changes/features you'd like to see before I start using this on more pages. RickyCourtney (talk) 17:25, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
K-101 (Kansas highway) GA review
SounderBruce, I noticed you opened a new GA review at the beginning of this week. I wanted to remind you that you had previously opened K-101 (Kansas highway) for review, and haven't started it yet. I hope you'll give it priority over the newer one, assuming you still wish to pursue it. (If not, let me know, and I'll be happy to arrange to put the nomination back into the pool of unreviewed nominations.) Thank you very much. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:18, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- @BlueMoonset: I do intend to get to those GA reviews in the order that they were picked up, but real life has thrown some major interruptions in the past few days for me. SounderBruce 07:10, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- Real life has a way of doing that. Hope all is well, and I'm sure the nominators will be happy when the reviews begin. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:23, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- SounderBruce, it's been another four weeks, and this and the other nominations haven't been edited (though you did a quickfail recently). There is a GAN backlog drive ongoing, and an excellent chance that Talk:Letchworth/GA1 would be taken up pretty quickly since it's been over 90 days since the review was opened (and therefore worth 1.5 points to a participant), and reasonable chances for Talk:K-101 (Kansas highway)/GA1 and Talk:Morristown, Tennessee/GA1. I hope you'll consider releasing one or more of these to other reviewers; for Letchworth, the nominator has been waiting since May 1 for a response. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:51, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

Black Diamond - Master Planned Development Section Deletion
Hi SounderBruce,
The updates made to the Black Diamond, WA page outlining the signification of the First Master Planned Development on the City of Black Diamond were removed on the grounds of:
- Try to cut down on information about specific developments unless they are covered by major regional news sources.
- Far too much detail on development and far too many subsections.
I agree history should be neutral, non-bias, fact driven, with factual sources referenced.
Question: Given the below (impact of the Master Planned Development; structure and content used by other cities pages), how do we outline the significance of how the First Master Planned Development has and is reshaping the City of Black Diamond, within the city of Black Diamonds wiki page?
How the First Master Planned Development Is Neutral And Black Diamond's Rebirth
In the late 1800, the City of Black Diamond was originally named due to the coal (black diamonds) the locals mined for a living.
In the mid 1900's, coal mining died off, with the dying off of coal mining, so did the lively hoods, and the future of the City of Black Diamond.
Fast forward to 1990, in 1990 a new Black Diamond City Planner had an opportunity to create something that had never been created before in the state of WA, that being a Master Planned Development (source).
The significance of the first Master Planned Development for the City of Black Diamond has been covered by major news sources such as KUOW (source), Seattle Times (source), and many others.
The First Master Planned Development and has gone on public record to be the largest Master Planned Development in all of King County (the same county Seattle is in)(source).
Due to the sheer size (156 acres; largest Master Planned Development in King County) the Master Planned Development is not only part of Black Diamonds history, it is literally reshaping the city and everything around it; more over, what is odd is most people are not aware this reshaping is part of a master planning going all the back to 1996.
Just like the or coal mining, or the depression, the implementation of a Master Planed Development has and is reshaping the City of Black Diamond into something historically and significantly different -- all by design.
What We Are Trying To Do - Help People Understand Current History, And Reshaping of Black Diamond, likend to Seattle's Wikipedia page
The inspiration we took in crafting the Black Diamond information was from the Seattle and San Francisco pages:

Restating The Question: Given the above (impact of the Master Planned Development; structure and content used by other cities pages), how do we outline the significance of how the First Master Planned Development has and is reshaping the City of Black Diamond, within the city of Black Diamonds wiki page?
Regards,
NateJ.Wiki (talk) 21:07, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
- @NateJ.Wiki: Subsections are only necessary when a main section is long enough to justify a split. As for the rest, please try to keep to summary style and not dive too deep into the details, as they aren't interesting to readers and are not under the scope of a general encyclopedia. Devoting so much prose to each development while neglecting the other elements of the city is a sign of bias. SounderBruce 00:56, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
- Part of what is historic about Black Diamond, is the establishment and birth of a concept called "Master Planned Development".
- There is an assumption made that the "Master Planned Development" does not address all aspects of the city -- of which the Master Planned Development does (impacts all aspect of the city); which is in part why the concept is historic, informative and information residents within the City of Black Diamond are very much interested in understanding more about -- especially newer residents to Black Diamond, and/or those looking to relocate to Black Diamond.
- This Master Planned Development concept is in no way affiliated with a single neighborhood, or commercial organization -- which is part of the point of the Master Planned Development.
- A "Master Planned Development" is not something you buy or sell. It is a thing that has a legal definition and is being used by the City of Black Diamond to rebuild itself into something new.
- In sticking the the non-bias theme is why I created a "Master Planned Developments (MPD)" section to enabling the house of any other MPD the City of Black Diamond may choice to create in the future.
- I am on trying to be obstinate here. What I am trying to do is help to inform people of historic information that has shaped, and is reshaping the City of Black Diamond.
- How do you recommend I proceed forward? NateJ.Wiki (talk) 01:38, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)"how do we outline the significance of how the First Master Planned Development has and is reshaping the City of Black Diamond, within the city of Black Diamonds wiki page?" Who is "we"? --Orange Mike | Talk 01:04, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
- The "we" is a reference to residents of Black Diamond, whom I have spoken with, and include myself in. NateJ.Wiki (talk) 01:40, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
Maple Valley, Washington
I don't mean this in a rude or angry way and I hope it doesn't come off as such, I'm just curious. I hope I didn't break any rules when I added the info, I just thought that it would be interesting to note it on the wiki page with how popular Homestuck is/was and that the address John lived in was actually real and findable on Google Maps. Hope you have a great rest of your day.
--Anethea (talk) 23:45, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) Not answering for SounderBruce, but I noticed your edit and his revert. Anethea, did you see that your source says "Dr. David Brinner" lives in Maple Valley, not John Egbert? And Brinner isn't even important enough of a character to be listed in List of Homestuck characters. Schazjmd (talk) 23:56, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Anethea: All lists of people living in X city must be backed up with a reliable source, of which none was provided. For a fictional character, it needs to be a significant plot point or setting that warrants real-world coverage in a secondary source, not a passing mention that can be brushed off. As far as I can tell, this situation does not meet either of these criteria. SounderBruce 06:16, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

WikiCup 2022 July newsletter
The third round of the 2022 WikiCup has now come to an end. Each of the sixteen contestants who made it into the fourth round had at least 180 points, which is a lower figure than last year when 294 points were needed to progress to round 4. Our top scorers in round 3 were:
- BennyOnTheLoose, with 746 points, a tally built both on snooker and other sports topics, and on more general subjects.
- Bloom6132, with 683 points, garnered mostly from "In the news" items and related DYKs.
- Sammi Brie, with 527, from a variety of submissions related to radio and television stations.
Between them contestants achieved 5 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 51 good articles, 149 DYK entries, 68 ITN entries, and 109 good article reviews. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article nomination, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! I would like to discuss some questions about climate data.
I looked at your home page and your contribution records, you may be well versed in the geography and human environment of the western states of the US. I am updating the climate data for some places in Washington state these days, such as Kent and Aberdeen, but you have withdrawn me A data addition above Bellingham, and you didn't give any reason, and Mean maximum and Mean minimum are available via weather.gov. 迷斯拉10032号 (talk) 08:03, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
- @迷斯拉10032号: Per WP:V, an updated link citation must be included when data is changed; if it's from the same website as the original citation, then the access-date and other parameters need to be updated. For climate data especially, it's critical to know what years are being used to represent the normals. Next time, just include the appropriate link (I'd recommend the Western Regional Climate Center over a generic NOAA webpage) and don't revert without following WP:BRD. Reason for reversion on Millennium Line station pages
Hey there, I just wanted to get some clarity on why the information I included on five of the six future Millennium Line stations was reverted. While I understand the rules surrounding WP:CRYSTALBALL, I don't think the information I included coincided with the ideas of prediction, extrapolation or speculation, since the bus connections currently exist in the exact location where the stations are being constructed. I will concede that the specificities of the bay numbers have not been determined, which is why I left a "?" for the time being. Please let me know if I'm misunderstanding something, or if you think that we can re-revert the information given my further explanation. EnigmaticSigma (talk) 19:56, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- @EnigmaticSigma: Until an announcement from TransLink themselves is published, all of this information is pure speculation. Between CRYSTALBALL and WP:OR, it is not allowed and should not be published so far in advance. Please refer to other GAs/FAs about future services and stations for best practices, such as describing expected services in prose instead of something as authoritative-looking as a table. Thanks for uploading File:Washington State Department of Natural Resources logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Coulee Corridor Scenic Byway
Hello SounderBruce,
I noticed that you undid my additions on Coulee Corridor Scenic Byway, stating that it is an disambiguation page. This must be a misunderstanding. The point is that this article is not a disambiguation page but an article about one of the routes that is part of the National Scenic Byway system. Therefore i've decided to undo your action.
Offcourse you can contact me when you still don't agree.
Regards Weetjesman Weetjesman (talk) 10:55, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Weetjesman: It is literally a disambiguation page. As the byway's details are already covered in the respective highway articles, there's no need to repeat the information there. Its purpose is to redirect readers to the correct article, not to add more bloat in their search. SounderBruce 21:35, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
Hello SounderBruce, now it's clear. I will leave the article like it is.

Hello! Your submission of 2022 U.S. Open Cup Final at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. The file File:Seal of Snohomish County.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Unused. Superseded by File:Seal of Snohomish County, Washington.svg.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 14:33, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
WikiCup 2022 September newsletter
The fourth round of the WikiCup has now finished. 383 points were required to reach the final, and the new round has got off to a flying start with all finalists already scoring. In round 4, Bloom6132 with 939 points was the highest points-scorer, with a combination of DYKs and In the news items, followed by BennyOnTheLoose, Sammi Brie and Lee Vilenski. The points of all contestants are swept away as we start afresh for the final round.
At this stage, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. For the remaining competitors, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them, and importantly, before the deadline on October 31st!
If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Interstate 90 scheduled for TFA
This is to let you know that the Interstate 90 article has been scheduled as today's featured article for October 18, 2022. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/October 18, 2022, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.
For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.
We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:44, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Jimfbleak: Thank you for the blurb, however I have Interstate 90 listed at WP:TFAP a year from today to commemorate the 30th anniversary of its completion. I would rather have it run on a meaningful date. SounderBruce 17:23, 12 September 2022 (UTC)

DYK for 2022 U.S. Open Cup Final
On 4 October 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 2022 U.S. Open Cup Final, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the 2022 U.S. Open Cup Final was the first in 14 years to feature a non-Major League Soccer team? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/2022 U.S. Open Cup Final. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, 2022 U.S. Open Cup Final), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

What is the Problem?
Hi, Sports event article need symbol section like 1998 FIFA World Cup. Only 1998 FIFA World Cup had a symbol section. So I added a sympbol section in 1990 FIFA World Cup, 1994 FIFA World Cup, 2002 FIFA World Cup and I added reliable source from FIFA Official Website.
I don't understand that What Problem is ?
Besides, Inserting a non-free image at 2002 FIFA World Cup article is just a mistake.
