Gary Lefkowith
[edit]I would like your help regarding the Wikipedia Article on me: Gary Lefkowith / https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Gary_Lefkowith Casey Skinner wrote the Article years ago & Sam DeRose now updates it & made changes when certain requirements were necessary. This link might be a good place to start, because I have supplied 3rd party press & other info, there that I thought added credibility https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Canyouhearmenow#Gary_Lefkowith Stephen Philbrick gave me a ticket ##2016071310006151 & suggested that I reach out to others to help with the examination of the Article in question: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Gary_Lefkowith_(2nd_nomination) Trying not to take this personally but in my mind the situation questions my integrity, legitimacy & career. I feel it's very obvious who I've worked with & especially my relationship with Chubby Checker as a Producer & Record Executive, as well as Performer & Songwriter that have Charted, 1 of them a # 1 Dance Song in Billboard, with Chubby Stephen also suggested that I reach out to other Editors including the one who supports the Article staying up. I really don't know how to do that & the other person's link doesn't seem to have a page. Thank You & All the Best, Gary Hifiadd (talk) 18:19, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
Why histmerge needed
[edit]Re this reversion of yours, the current contents of J. Larry Nichols is actually the pre-July 5 contents of Larry Nichols, done as a copy-and-paste move by someone who wanted the Larry Nichols article to be about a different person. Now the new Larry Nichols has been prodded, but even if it goes away, from the sources shown in the J. Larry Nichols article, that may actually be the more appropriate title for it. In which case the history from the old Larry Nichols article needs to be merged into it. Wasted Time R (talk) 18:54, 17 July 2016 (UTC)
- Oh dear. Well, @Wasted Time R: I must confess I can't follow the machinations. Please do what you think best and I won't interfere again. Sorry. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 18:58, 17 July 2016 (UTC)
Just requesting help
[edit]Hello, Shawn in Montreal. Could I have your opinion on Nate Howard when you get time to look at it? I was reading random articles via the random mod and it came up. I'm new to AFDs but I saw that you are mentioned a lot in them. I appreciate any help with Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Nate_Howard_(nomination), as I would like to nominate another article for deletion but before I do would like help with this one as to not make mistakes. Non-admin closure
[edit]- Hello Shawn in Montreal, you updated talkpage of List of aircraft (0-A) AfD discussion here as "closed as speedy keep" (Old AfD multi update). However, the AfD discussion was not closed and neither was the AfD notice removed from the article main-space. Just wanted to let you know that I have closed this AfD. Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 19:13, 29 July 2016 (UTC)
- @AKS.9955: Hi there. That's because it was reverted without explanation by Richard Norton. And done so out of process, too. Even a non-admin closure should have been taken to deletion review, I think? Anyway, I'd noted it in the Afd thread. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 19:22, 29 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Shawn in Montreal:, I just left a message on his TalkPage. Thanks for letting me know. You are right, every AfD closure, if has to be opened (even if disputed) has to go to DRV. Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 19:30, 29 July 2016 (UTC)
- Yes I saw that, thanks. I still think my closure was the right call, per SKCRIT. The editor didn't do me the basic courtesy of engaging with me when he blanked the close template, so I decided to extend the same. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 19:39, 29 July 2016 (UTC)

Re: Nautical/Maritime science fiction
[edit]I agree with you about the search results, but I would think Maritime Science Fiction is more grammatically correct? I don't have time as I may have to leave Wikipedia for a while, but we could talk to the maritime biologist (who is more than a reliable source on a science fiction subject) if he knows of anything of the term being used elsewhere. Another user on the talk page suggested a re-titling to "List of maritime science fiction works" which is fine with my, but we should not re-publish anything and keep it draft till we can expand on the sources.--Taeyebar 05:13, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
Take a look. Not the usual style ... FWiW Bzuk (talk) 13:18, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
I don't know, wouldn't categorizing it in Category:Colin Low fall under categorizing by content, and not by type of template? (I was only recently informed about WP:CAT#T, so I may be completely wrong here...) Trivialist (talk) 23:26, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
- well, for one thing, because it's a maintenance and not a "content" category, right? WP:CAT#T doesn't make a lick of sense and I've read it several times... Shawn in Montreal (talk) 23:34, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
- but if you're Cfd goes through -- as it should -- it will be a content category. I still can't make it with that policy is saying but I don't think it's saying don't categorize templates? Anyway if you're sure go ahead. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 23:38, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Regarding Reconsideration
[edit]Hi every one Anup [Talk], Shawn in Montreal (talk), David Gerard (talk)
Okay going towards everything yes it's me all behind everything making an article on flo2cash and Ankur Dharmani but as described about Dharmani, before on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ankur Dharmani. I apologize and i'm trying to fix it as i saw a news few days back on Facebook then i Googled and i thought it's a good thing/article to start a page on flo2cash because in New Zealand there was no article on Fintech companies and it's one of best futuristics companies based in New Zealand as concerned towards fin tech (let me tell you i'm not in any relation of the company and person, it's only my reflection and my work).
But later in my absence someone else edited the flo2cash i don't know since i'm bit new on Wikipedia, not a pro so i don't know how to get information about the USER who edited so that i can warn him/her. Yes Live Mint was a mistake as i copy pasted some of my references form my previous article as i forgot to make correction. After making the page on flo2cash i thought it's good to even write an article on his CEO(as described before), yes bit low with the data but yes now i have everything for consideration(it's not for the purpose of advertisement). So pardon me for everything i will fix and would like to request to make a reconsideration for both article for not putting it for deletion, for instance please help in making contribution towards the articles. LGBT bio stubs
[edit]I'd say it probably should be, as stub categories usually are filed as subcategories of their most corresponding article categories. (That said, I didn't know it even existed as I've never seen or used it before, and as the volume of articles in it indicates I'm not sure very many other people know about or use it either.) I am curious as to why you would add it, revert yourself and then ask me if it should be there — I might just be overthinking this, but the tone of your question sort of sounds like you thought I had an objection for some reason. Bearcat (talk) 21:04, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
- Ah, okay, gotcha now. Bearcat (talk) 21:15, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
Lists of Canadian films
[edit]I know we never used to bother including a references column, but Wikipedia actually prefers lists to be referenced whenever possible the same way as articles are — so when I'm creating new lists now, I try to add a reference column accordingly. People have also sometimes directly placed a reference in the "notes" column as well, for the record. Bearcat (talk) 00:28, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
Nancy Ruth
[edit]Just a quick heads-up about Nancy Ruth: the reason she's denoted in the template the way she is, and not piped out as just "Ruth", is that Ruth isn't her surname. Her full legal name is actually Nancy Ruth Rowell Jackman, with Ruth being a middle name, but for reasons which she's never really explained she doesn't publicly use "Rowell Jackman", and just goes by "Nancy Ruth" as a mononym. There have been discussions about it in the past and consensus has been that it would be inappropriate original research for us to treat her name as if Ruth were a conventional surname. I know it looks weird, and I grant that it is kind of weird for a political dignitary to bill herself in a Cher/Madonna/Prince/Beyoncé sort of way, but we just have to treat it as what it is: a compound given name and not a firstname-lastname. Snow theatre AfD
[edit]I've withdrawn my AfD nomination for Snow theatre and wanted to see if you could redirect the page to Outdoor cinema#Examples. Thanks! Meatsgains (talk) 19:04, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
- Done. thanks, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 19:04, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Meatsgains: the nomination close should say redirect rather than keep, though. As it's inappropriate for me to change your closure would you like to revise that? You do state "redirect" in the edit summary, but that doesn't match what's in the closure statement. Shawn in Montreal (talk)
- Well, Bearcat's noted that. All's well. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 19:15, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

New deal for page patrollers
[edit]Hi Shawn à Montréal,
In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.
Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.
Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

DYK for Maxwell M. Kalman
[edit]On 27 November 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Maxwell M. Kalman, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Montreal architect Maxwell M. Kalman designed more than 1,100 buildings, including Canada's first shopping centre? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Maxwell M. Kalman), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Shawn, I need your help! How do I add to the comments on the Victorino Noval Foundation page possible deletion page (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Victorino_Noval_Foundation)? They keep mixing up Victorino Noval Jr. with the Foundation, and he is prohibited from managing the LLC or even serving on the Board in any way. The Foundation has hosted huge charity events for Rihanna, including a benefit for The Clara Lionel Foundation, which was founded by Rihanna in order to grant fund efforts promoting health, education, arts and culture around the world. Since its founding, the Clara Lionel Foundation has also made it its mission to provide quality treatment for cancer patients in Barbados and has officially named The Clara Brathwaite Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where the facility's first modern radiotherapy machine, the Equinox Beam, has been added. (see http://www.vogue.com/6272325/rihanna-first-diamond-ball-clara-lionel-foundation/) Noval Jr. attends the events, as it his celebrity connections which help bring in the stars to donate money, but he is not a member of the LLC and the LLC does not receive ANY donations, only aid in helping other charities attract attention. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sophieregent999 (talk • contribs) 03:16, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

RfA
[edit]Hi Shawn. I've been on the lookout for candidates for administrator user rights and from some investigation have come to the conclusion that you more than fit the bill. You've got a great track record in almost every area that RfA voters look for, and I think you'd make a great administrator at a time when we desperately need to promote more. I notice, though, that you said you weren't interested back in 2012. Is there any chance I could change your mind? I think you could do a lot of good with the tools. Sam Walton (talk) 16:01, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Samwalton9: That's an enormous honour and I truly thank you -- but I fully admit to being temperamentally unsuited to the tools. There's just been way too many cases where I'm going through a bad patch and I have let it affect my behaviour. I'd never survive an RFA. Moreover, I have to add that I don't find myself in need of further tools, really. I really don't want to get more involved in the necessary mop-and-bucket work than I am, now! Plus, there seem to be more and more housekeeping work that non-admins can do. I'm quite proud in my little way of my non-admin closures at Afd, which so far have been uncontested. I have the greatest appreciation for admins -- but I don't deserve to be one. But I really appreciate the gesture, Sam. All the best for 2017. Gonna be an interesting year! Red link, blue link, romper bomper boo
[edit]As usual, the (temporary) problem was that the Academy keeps publicizing the nominees while still leaving the producers' names out of the documentary and short film press releases for some @&*&ing reason, thus forcing obsessive ADHD types like me to have to follow up with a second round of hunting to find them afterward. (Though to be fair, this is still an improvement over last year, when the press release for those categories listed all of the films but completely failed to actually specify which film actually went with which category.) So I just wanted to let you know that all of the film titles you bluelinked to their directors today now actually have their directors' names properly listed in the article, so I've reredlinked the titles themselves since they don't need to reduplicate the same link anymore. I still wish there were an easier way to do all of this (or more people willing to help out), because it's now 3 a.m. Wednesday and I still have 50 more categories to finish and some digital producers to hunt down. Might a Candy by any other name not taste so sweet after all? Bearcat (talk) 08:18, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

- @Bearcat: thank you. There was actually very interesting somewhat catty article, I think, in the Globe and Mail, about how these works don't actually have to be seen to be nominated. I'm sorry I haven't been able to help more, and I will try to, I'm just pretty snowed under in my real life right now. best, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 13:47, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I knew that was a thing sometimes, but I thought it was more of a film thing given that Canadian film is generally much worse off for public visibility than Canadian television is. But then again, I guess I shouldn't put byzantine rules past them, given the eternal mystery of why the qualification period seems to be "next awards" for some films and "next-next awards" for other films that premiered at the same time... - I'm sorry but I don't generally think a lot of these fictional families are notable. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 00:47, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
Fictional? Spanish colonial families are fictional? What is your argument to back up your claim? Not notable? You mean not a highly entitled European royal family? Its is a relevant family in the island of Santo Domingo and the Caribbean region with a notable war hero in the very determining Battle of Cartagena de Indias, a high position politician during Fernando VII reign in Spain and it has who is considered to be the first romantic poet in America with a frekin plaque at the Niagara Falls. What am I missing here? Not anglosaxon or germanic enough for you? --Enion Glas (talk) 18:06, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
- Oh sorry I thought this was in reference to a dispute over fiction families in The Godfather, which I think I also sorted. No, I have no views on the matter, sorry. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 18:08, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
Ok, but earlier you thought this was a case of WP Bite. Is not a fictional family so perhaps the discussion can use your comments since you showed interest in including it on various discussion pages? --Enion Glas (talk) 18:29, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

[edit]It won't help in this case (I already checked), but you actually haven't lost your search access to old Montreal newspapers the way you seem to think you have — it's not fully comprehensive, but the Google News Archive has some Montreal Gazette all the way back to 1878, as well as big chunks of quite a few of the old historic Post and Daily and Herald and others. I think you might have forgotten where your access was, but you still have quite a bit more than you thought. Bearcat (talk) 18:50, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
- I tried that -- but I still wonder if something's changed/declined? I played a key role - I think - in saving the article on Trudeau's dad, Charles Emile, via that very resource. But it seems like I find less now than I did then. Though I might have used a different method at the time, such as browsing to issue dates that corresponded to his death. I just don't recall. Anyway, thanks so much for trying, too. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 19:01, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

Or was it simply the intent to make the article appear healthy and fine (when it is, in fact, very sickly)? Just wondering at what motivates a non-expert to enter an area where they have no experience or expertise, and remove helpful tags, that indicate to those in the field, what aspects of a technical article need attention. Tag-bombing is only tag-bombing if things are fine. If they are not fine, tags are placeholders and pointers to what needs to happen for an article to improve. [edit]Dear Shawn,
No, it was not me who did that, but apparently someone is very upset about the way I wrote the article, and since this person is harrassing me on Facebook currently and things are turning in a way Gerwyn Williams would feel disgusted at, I am decided to withdraw the article myself and rather ask the National Library to make an entry for Gerwyn Williams. He was a driven artist and did not have more time, sadly so. Having been close with him till the end, despite the geographical distance, I felt it was only right to recommend his two short films, they had been critically aknowledged at said Green Man Festival. Not only me, but other musicians too had been looking forward to Gerwyn's possible recovery; he had made plans to return to Berlin and perhaps collaborate a little. All this failed, and now there is this unnecessary conflict about his heritage. You will understand if I am taking down the article as of now, resigning to the offensiveness it caused. - Thanks for getting in touch, and perhaps be so kind as to let other critiques of the Wiki community know as well, so the turmoil get settled and no further discussion be needed. - Nic (relating to the 'Gerwyn Williams, filmmaker, musician' entry)TheNic (talk) 21:15, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
The Ethical Journalism article
[edit]Hi Shawn,
I thank you for your input over at the "Ethical Journalism" Afd discussion. I see that you have a particular interest in journalism, and therefore I'm writing this to you directly. I also promised not to comment further on the discussion page, so also for that reason I am commenting here to you personally. I admit that I probably screwed up royally in my first attempt at creating an "Ethical Journalism" article. Still I hope that the article doesn't get deleted, but instead fixed. The premise with which I created that page, was essentially the premise that very few people, even including a few journalists, have a very clear idea of exactly what "Ethical Journalism" really is. My case in point here is, otherwise the Trump phenomenon could not possibly have succeeded.
Why have so many Americans been so mesmerized by this man? I believe that it may have begun with a certain American "weakness" for conspiracy theories. I would propose that in order for anyone to fall for a conspiracy theory, they would first have to have a very poor understanding of exactly what "Ethical Journalism" really is. Does Wikipedia currently do a very good job of assisting the public in gaining a better understanding of what the term really means?
I believe that by simplifying the concept into a single term, "Ethical Journalism," and by writing a simple, hopefully easily understood article about the subject, treating it as a single concept and not as some kind of a convoluted and complicated mess, that only a PhD could possibly fully understand, that this might greatly assist the public in better comprehending exactly what "Ethical Journalism" really is. Does this make any sense to you at all, or am I just crazy here?
Thanks,
Scott P. (talk) 20:19, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hi there. I actually don't have a particular interest or knowledge of journalism -- it's just that I like to help sort the Afds -- the deletion discussions -- and there sure have been a lot of controversial articles from the U.S., post-election! Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:26, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- I hope you don't mind me asking, but what might be some of the most interesting controversial articles (interesting for yourself) that you've watched go through the AFD process, since our kooky election? Scott P. (talk) 20:33, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- Well, that's it: the election. All the Trump stuff. Trump/Clinton stuff. It's interesting to me how Wikipedia can sort of become a forum or battleground during times of great conflict (witness all the stuff on Israel/Palestine) and suddenly there's been this explosion of articles either for or against Trump, Clinton, etc. Take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/United States of America. I mean, wtf is Suspecion of electronic survalence on Trump Campaign? Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:41, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- Great f'n example! :-) I think I see what you mean. I think WP sometimes acts as a sort of a "global mind" where some thoughts can get deliberated first. Interesting and helpful. Yes, my article was "slightly" biased after the lead. The lead at least seemed to be unbiased. This gives me a thought. I think I might propose over at the Afd that the article be "withdrawn" for the time-being, until a group of editors might be able to compose and present a more "neutrally toned article," and then present that for reconsideration? How does that sound? A good, bad, or ridiculous idea? Scott P. (talk) 21:02, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- ...perhaps ridiculous.... Scott P. (talk) 22:34, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what to tell you. I suppose you'd have to have a "group of editors" ready work on this collectively in draft space? Shawn in Montreal (talk) 22:46, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- ...perhaps ridiculous.... Scott P. (talk) 22:34, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

.... (continued from above)…. Yes, something like that. Obviously not a typical Wikipedia procedure, but in this case, because of the fact that I admittedly have some "personal blind spots," I would probably have to find somebody who could work with me who was "pro Trump", and then we would have to work together on this, and then perhaps a third more neutral editor too. I would certainly be willing to try and put in the "legwork" to try and accomplish something like this. I believe that if a more neutral article could somehow be written here, that it might be a very helpful and good article. Scott P. (talk) 22:54, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- Obviously you're unsure of my proposal at best, and I understand. I will be the first to admit that in my days, I've whipped up more than one crackpot scheme. However, I have occasionally come up with some good ones too. So, if you don't mind, my question for you, since you've obviously watched over far more Afd's than I, is this idea DOA, remotely possible, or "don't know"? Your unvarnished opinion on this would be very much appreciated and helpful. Thanks, Scott P. (talk) 02:56, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

Deleted articles and essays on Takeshi Murata, Thom Andersen, Arthur Lipsett and Harun Farocki.
[edit]Hello Shawn,
I am sorry if I have infringed any Wikipedia laws on publishing bibliographical references on Takeshi Murata, Arthur Lipsett or Harun Farocki´s wikipedia. Honestly, we just wanted to contribute with further scholar and academic writings published in a double-blind peer review journal. The purpose of this message is to try to kindly understand just a little bit some confusing aspects of your actions.
How can these essays and articles be interpreted as advertisements? They have the same nature that many other references already published in these particular wikipedia pages. Are the new introduced references less important than those that link with other film magazines references previously listed (Senses of Cinema´s link in Arthur Lipsett´s page, by instance)? An other example: Why Takeshi Murata´s wikipedia website maintains a link to a page that sells Takeshi Murata´s DVDs and Books meanwhile is delated a reference that links to an essay recently published by a film studies journal? Ours is a extremely modest journal, lacking of economical potential, but created to disseminate and support marginal filmmaking practices.
Thank you Shawn for providing us more useful information that help us to understand this policy.

Pat Stogran living person page update
[edit]Hello Shawn from Montreal. I am contacting you because I saw you participated in a discussion on this page: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Pat_Stogran
Retired Colonel Pat Stogran is currently preparing to run for the leadership of Canada's NDP. In the past, maybe a decade ago, I tried to update another living persons page and it didn't go so well. All my changes got reversed. I think I may have annoyed some people and I accept their judgement. I'm too partisan or something. I thought since maybe you have experience I could forward you information on Pat Stogran situation and other information as suggested by the current citations and leave it to your best judgement on what to edit. Might that work?
I donate $4 per year to wikipedia if that helps.

[edit]Hi Shawn. I think I've finally got it. I added an additional citation to the Hiawatha page. The other citation I was going to use did not add any new information to the page. What are your priorities for the Canadian Film Project? Where can I best be used? Do you consider the Canadian Feature Film Database a legitimate citation? Cheers.Wyndham Paul Wise (talk) 05:39, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hi. A few points:
- I added a sentence about Hiawatha being "the first dramatic narrative film." @Bearcat: short as it is, would you say it's ready for article space at this length? @Wyndham Paul Wise:, is there any other relevant content from the three references that could be added?
- As for priorities for Canadian film in Wikipedia, I would defer to Bearcat. If there is a de facto leader of Canadian film -- or maybe it's official, I don't even know -- it's him.
- If you mean Canadian Feature Film Database -- which I don't think it I have ever so much as looked at before, it would certainly be a legitimate way of WP:Verifying credits. But because it says it "compiles the principal credits of every Canadian feature film from 1913 to 2006," it couldn't be used to establish notability. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 12:51, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, I can add more text to the Hiawatha page, no prob. Thanks for the note on the Database. Credits, but not notability. Got it. A few more questions: (1) In the Evageline page (1913) I removed a bad link and added some good ones. However, the bad link stills appears on the Wiki page, even though I deleted on the edit page. (2) How do you feel about the Shipman films. Back to God's Country is fine, but what about the other ones. I have info on all of them, I would think they are notable. (3) How do you feel about the Quota Quickies, that grouping of American produced films during the early 30s. I notice some of them have a page, some don't. Do you consider those films notable? Personally I don't, except for the two made by Edgar G. Ulmer (one of which has a page, the other doesn't).Wyndham Paul Wise (talk) 15:31, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

Film stub notability checklist
[edit]Hi Shawn, Very glad to see you're still dedicated to WPFilms. I don't see many active hands of the old guard around. I'm just on a ten-years-after spree, checking on some of the project developments doing some gnoming around and also for some unknown reason I'm compiling a work list for film stubs that have been tagged for notability. It's a kind of personal study into what users raise an eyebrow against and tag it and what stuff -of equal notability- goes by in a general sense of acceptability. But also , if any task force is still into doing this sort of thing, I could notify somewhere about its existence, maybe some to-do list somewhere. Any ideas? Cheers. Hoverfish Talk 02:29, 20 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, yes, it's nice to hear from you again after all these years. I'm sorry but I'm not aware of any task force above and beyond WikiProject Film, which I'm not directly involved with. I made a decision some years ago to steer clear of these groups. The one exception is WP Canada, I guess, where I am a little more involved in discussions, etc. In the film and film stub area there are a handful of editors who seem to most of the assessing and I'd ask them. Sorry I can't be more help and welcome back. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 13:28, 20 May 2017 (UTC)

[edit]There are no WP policies against attempting to be funny on an AfD, are there? And Wikipedia:Ignore_all_rules says that sometimes we have to use common sense and ignore policies and say "I just don't think an article about a pool belongs" which is what I did. I'm in the clear minority, but there's no need to take anything I said personally. No need to reply unless you feel like it, cheers. ‡ Єl Cid, Єl Caɱ̩peador ᐁT₳LKᐃ 13:17, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

Reads- 'This is a high level category for deletion sorting. It is strongly recommended you do not add discussions directly to it. Instead, please add them to a more specific category, such as a state and/or relevant subject area.' You should not have entered the AFD for Jeff King consultant there. The proper AFD deletion is Iowa. He is the son of an Iowa Congressman....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 22:15, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
- I do consider these things carefully. It seemed that his claim to notability was running the PAC for Ted Cruz's national candidacy, but if it was the state seat bid only, I'd agree. I actually share the same concerns as you about clogging up the national USA sorting, but in this case I had understood that the article subject was tied to Cruz's national GOP ticket bid, too. In which case it should go in both. But thanks for the advice. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 22:32, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Games
[edit]So when I added four recent additions to the list, I did not place notices on the AfD pages the way you did with A Penny for my Thoughts. Is that a step in the procedure, that I missed? If so, could you do it, or do you need me to rectify my mistake? Thanks. Newimpartial (talk) 13:41, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
- @Newimpartial: Yes the notice should always be placed in the Afd to avoid duplications, I see you've added at least one other games Afd without tagging the Afd. It sounds like you're doing it manually, as opposed to using the delsort tab? You'd need to create a user subpage called User:Newimpartial/monobook.js if you don't already have one -- then copypaste add importScript( 'User:Newimpartial/delsort.js' );// Backlink: User:Newimpartial/delsort.js; That ought to work. I'm afraid I can't be much help if it doesn't. best, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 17:01, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was doing it manually following the instructions on the category page. I'll add the script and try to make the tab work - if not, I'll work out some kind of a kludge, later. The oldest of them, Blades in the Dark, was only posted to AfD two days ago so a few more hours without the template won't hurt anybody. Newimpartial (talk) 17:08, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

Question
[edit]Hello! I am currently identifying and categorizing subjects I photographed during my recent trip to Montreal. If you're generally curious, you can view my photographs here. But my question now is, do you know the subject is this image? I took this photograph in Chinatown, but I am having difficulty learning more about this bust. Would you happen to know? ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:49, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
- Sure, that's Sun Yat Sen. There's a commons category for such images at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Bust_of_Sun_Yat-sen,_Place_Sun_Yat-Sen,_Montreal . Shawn in Montreal (talk) 16:20, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
- Ah! Of course, thank you so much. Would you happen to know the name of this work, or the artist? ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:55, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
- It's the stylized Olympic Flame outside "Olympic House," mentioned here. No idea of its name or artist, and again, I for one am not sure it's independently notable. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 18:04, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, I can't find more than what you found. I was just curious so I could create an appropriate Commons category. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:06, 20 August 2017 (UTC)

To capitalize or not to capitalize
[edit]My apologies, but for some reason I wasn't getting proper notification-queue alerts yesterday — I'm presuming some kind of browser bug at my end, as I'm not seeing any indication that the notifications weren't working on the server side. But I literally got no bell notifications yesterday at all, and suddenly had over a dozen when I checked in this morning. At any rate, yeah, do whatever you need to do — I'm one of those who was taught (wrongly) that the rule was just to lowercase any word shorter than a certain number of letters regardless of its grammatical function, which is neither the real rule nor the one we follow on here, so things like "in" and "it" and "on" and "or" do trip me up sometimes because I have two different instincts competing for primacy in my brain. Bearcat (talk) 13:50, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Bearcat: Thanks. I thought what you did in this case was simply copy someone else's miscapitalization or it was just a keystroke error because in this case your instinct and the grammatical rules coincide -- but it's bloody complicated according to the style guides because "or" is a coordinating rather than subordinating conjunction, per MOS:CT. Oy. Anyway, I'm on it. And I will try to help with some of your TIFF 2017 work if I can. My life is just a bit topsy turvy right now. best, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 14:02, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
- Well, yeah, basically that's what I did do — but I did catch the capitalization error in the second "to" in the process, so I can't entirely handwave the whole thing away as somebody else's error. Bearcat (talk) 14:20, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

Restoration of Rainbow Tribe disambiguation page
[edit]Hi Shawn,
Last spring you opened an aFd discussion which resulted in paring down an older disambiguation page to a redirect. I was available then for the opening of that discussion, but unfortunately not for its closing a month later. I finally had a little time today to address your original question a bit further, which I have attempted to do on that page's Talk page. I will be happy to try to do my best to answer any further questions you may have about this, on that Talk page. Sorry for not being able to participate in the closing of that conversation earlier.
Thanks,

Move articles vs submit articles
[edit]Hi Shawn in Montreal. I'm Heather in Montreal. I've been slowly adding Montreal artists and institutions to Wikipedia, usually about three or four a year, and have noticed your name in a few. I've been using the "Move" to article page rather than "Submit", but I noticed that several have not been reviewed after a year and a half. Previously they were all reviewed within the month and these are Order of Canada or RCA artists so they are uncontroversial. Since I don't understand the process, my questions are: A. Should I use the regular "Submit"? B. Should I find someone to review them myself? C. Would you be interested or can you recommend someone? I've taken the liberty of including one. https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Philip_Surrey Thank you. HeatherBlack (talk) 14:28, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Heather, I see that article review is terribly backlogged. I've never submitted an article for review myself and I'm sorry but I wouldn't have the time to review anything, personally. I don't think it matters how you move the article to articlespace so long as {{New unreviewed article}} appears at the top of the page. Is there a particular reason why you prefer to have your submissions reviewed? Shawn in Montreal (talk) 15:25, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks Shawn. No particular reason for asking – more a concern that, as I sometimes include French references, no one wants to review them. I had one recently that had several references in French, and it was approved by someone in Yorkshire, which got me thinking "Did they read the French text?". I noticed that on your user page there is a WikiMontreal link, so I'll ask there, as they want more Montreal content, if there is a "review club" for articles that include french-media links etc. Thanks again. HeatherBlack (talk) 12:39, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
Hello, I'm Daniel Case. I noticed that you made a comment on the page Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Qatar Airways Flight 962 that didn't seem very civil, so it has been removed.
