Women in Red

[edit]

Hi there, SapientSquid, and welcome to Women in Red. You'll see in my welcome message above that there are a number of links to sites which provide guidance on Wikipedia editing. When you feel you are ready to create a biography, you should look through our Ten Simple Rules. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 11:35, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ipigott, thank you for reaching out.
I've created a short biography of Álof árbót Haraldsdottir and am ready to submit it for publishing. I see this section in Women in Red's "Primer for creating women's biographies" page:
"The article is basically complete and you can move it to main space or ask an editor you trust to review it and move it to main space. It is not recommended that you submit drafts to Wikipedia:Articles for creation. If you do not have the ability to move an article, or have no relationship with an editor you trust, post a review request on the Women in Red Talk Page."
Do you recommend that I do this, and can you advise me how I can make the draft available to an individual editor rather than submitting it into the general pool?
Thank you. SapientSquid (talk) 12:16, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comment

[edit]

Welcome! Just a couple of minor comments. I see that you use ibid in your refs. While that's common in print, there is no "final version" on Wikipedia, and if another editor inserts an intervening ref, the ibid becomes confusing. Better to cite your text at the bottom and use the "author (year) page number(s)" format for the ref. Also note that page ranges should use an endash –, not a hyphen. Keep up the good work Jimfbleak - talk to me? 08:55, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Biographies of English women

[edit]

Hi there, SapientSquid. I've just been looking through your articles, reviewing and assessing those requiring attention. You have certainly been making many useful contributions. Keep up the good work. I see from the above messages that you have been trying to create articles with the Q reference from Wikidata. This often appears in redlists when the entry coincides with a name which already exists as a title of an article. When you create such articles, you should change the Q reference to something else, e.g. Jean Doe (painter).--Ipigott (talk) 07:14, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi , I noticed that an article you started, Winifred Blatchford, had been tagged as a Wikipedia:Orphan because no other articles linked to it. Where possible and appropriate, it is a good idea to mention and link the subject of a new article in other related articles. For WB, I added links at Robert Blatchford, National Federation of Women Workers#The Woman Worker newspaper and Blatchford. The article was few months old, so this may be old news to you.

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:55, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
