Episcopal Divinity School Edit

[edit]

Hello, RichardBond. Your recent edit to the Episcopal Divinity School Wikipedia page lacks a citation. Please provide a citation for your claim "As of March 31st 2023 the Episcopal Divinity School still owns a former annex at 7 and 9 Phillips Street in Cambridge." Episcopal.167 (talk) 02:02, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is on the Middlesex County Registry of Deeds website. I saw that the property is listed on the Loopnet Commercial Real Estate Multiple Listing website currently. I then looked it up but did not know how to provide a reference link. RichardBond (talk) 02:27, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Charles Hiram Burnett Sr requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. PMDrive1061 (talk) 22:53, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Daniel Kelleher requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Hi Richard I have removed the copyright tags from the article Erasmus M. Smithers because there is a credible claim that the text is from the public domain as you said. However, please take the time to fundamentally rewrite it and expand it. It is currently not suitable in tone etc for WP, which is not surprising since it was written in 1903 when the guy was still alive. I hope you will be able to get it up to snuff soon! Welcome. Hi Richard

The article Corliss P. Stone was deleted because it was an exact copy of text found elsewhere on the web, and so posting it was in violation of copyright law. If you are sure that this person is notable and you wish to write about him in you own words please feel free to recreate the article. Please have a look at Wikipedia:Manual of style to see what a Wikipedia article should look like. (If you wish to reply to me you can do so here - I will see any edits you make here). DJ Clayworth (talk) 16:54, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have copied two entries on the talk page of the above article to here. Since the article is deleted the talk page will be too, and you may wish to have a record of what was said. DJ Clayworth (talk) 16:57, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The age of the book this text is from puts the text in the public domain. I also intend to add info from other sources. (contributed by User:RichardBond)

You really should rewrite this in your own words, though you are free (indeed, encouraged) to use this text as a reference. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 16:27, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

End of insert

Hi again Richard.

Thanks for your willingness to contribute to Wikipedia. It's true that an old book is probably in the public domain. However there are other reasons why the original article is inappropriate. It is written in the style of a memoir and not an encyclopedia article: it does not conform to the Wikipedia:Manual of style; and it will need very heavy editing to bring it to Wikipedia standards. I strongly recommend that you rewrite the information there in your own words in in a form appropriate for an encyclopedia. However if you insist on reposting the material it will probably not be deleted again, as long as you include a statement that it is in the public domain.

Incidentally there are no 'supervisors' on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is written by a community of volunteers. The policies represent the consensus of the Wikipedia community. DJ Clayworth (talk) 17:05, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Cornelius H. Hanford

[edit]

This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits.
The next time you create an inappropriate page, such as Cornelius H. Hanford, you will be blocked from editing.
Cunard (talk) 02:44, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I take that warning back as I see now that your recent page is a) not a test page and b) not a copyvio. Sorry for the final warning. Keep up the article writing and just ignore my warning. My apologies again, Cunard (talk) 02:54, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Public domain

[edit]

Before anyone blocks you, could provide a link showing how the source for all this is in the public domain? If so, you need to appeal at WP:DRV rather than recreating these. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 02:48, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Better yet

[edit]

rewrite in your own wordd citing the source. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 02:50, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Response

[edit]

I start with public domain material then change the text as I get more information from other sources. Also I have not removed stylistic changes or additional information posted by others here to the articles I started. I welcome doing future collaboration with historians and resent people who delete robotically without having regard for sharing the history involved.

Your message

[edit]

I assume this is about Howard Cranston Potter. 7 people have thought the article should be speedily deleted because it did not assert WHY he was notable. 4 of them tagged it for speedy deletion, the other 3 (including me, most recently) pressed the button to delete it. Instead of blaming others, perhaps improve what you're writing, rather than simply reposting it time after time without addressing the fundamental problem that was leading to it being deleted time after time. Being someone's father-in-law isn't a sufficient assertion of notability, and there's preciously little else in the article about anything apart from his relatives.

If you disagree that the deletions were right, you have two options: (1) write a better article and avoid the problem that way; (2) go to WP:DRV.

As for the articles that I write, they are all to be found in existing biographical dictionaries such as the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography or the Dictionary of Welsh Biography, and are all properly sourced and referenced. I don't accept the comparison, or the charge of favouritism/bias.

In future, please sign your messages with ~~~~ as it makes life easier for people trying to respond. Regards, BencherliteTalk 17:38, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Despite your personal attacks on me, I have reviewed the policies on these matters, and the source you cite. Speedy deletion of James ben Ali Haggin

[edit]

A tag has been placed on James ben Ali Haggin requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

The copyright notice at the bottom of the page says "Copyright 1998-2008". Also the above article is also inappropriate for an encyclopedia. Please rewrite it so as to be appropriate. DJ Clayworth (talk) 17:41, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The website you copied from asserts that they own the copyright to what you copied. You may disagree with them, but we only have your word for it that the original is out of copyright. They say the original was only 'a source', not that they copied it. Wikipedia is not about to get involved in a copyright dispute. Since the article you copied is highly inappropriate for an encyclopedia may I strongly suggest you write an article about James ben Ali Haggin in your own words, using that website as a source, but not copying it. (Incidentally, you can reply on this page - I will see it) DJ Clayworth (talk) 18:17, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Richard...

If you are asking about permission to copy this particular bio at url below... the answer is Yes. Would also be nice on Wikipedia!

http://haggin.org/JBAH_Biography.html

I actually did not edit anything, nor add or subtract from. I just recall retyping it exactly as I found it. Just retyped and posted the original text. As I also found it on the web and with the Source. About 8 years ago tho. Then did add 2 photographs I found elsewhere. I also can't even remember where I did find the article. While I've seen many since, this was and still is the best (to me anyway).

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

BEFORE YOU GO DESTROYING OTHER PEOPLES PAGES FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH AMERICAN COPYRIGHT LAW AND READ BOTH THE RELEVANT DISCUSSION AND TALK PAGES. WHEN I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO CHECK IF THE ARTICLE WAS WRITTEN OR EDITED BY THE OWNER OF HAGGIN.ORG I DID. LINDA HAGGIN PECK'S RESPONSE WAS TO PLEASE PUT IT UP. SINCE THEN A BUNCH OF LAZY INCOMPETENT "EDIT COWBOYS" DELETED IT REPEATEDLY DESPITE REMINDERS REGARDING THE DIFERENCE BETWEEN BRITISH AND AMERICAN COPYRIGHT LAW. IF YOU CAN NOT BE BOTHERED TO RESPECT THE LEGAL DIFFERENCE THEN RECUSE YOURSELF. WHAT DO YOU PLAN ON DOING NEXT? DELETE ARTICLES ON RUBBER TIRES FOR MISSPELLING?

Please be civil, and don't use all caps. We are explaining Wikipedia policies to you, not making things up. Let us explain a few more.
First we can't just take your word for what was said by the copyright owner. It's not that we think you are lying, we just have to be sure for legal reasons. Wikipedia could be prosecuted if we violate copyright law, which is why we are so strict about it. What you need to do is to get the website owner to put a notice on the website saying that the text is in the public domain (this shouldn't be a problem if it is actually a copy of an old document). Alternatively you could tell us how to get in touch with the copyright owner herself. Then we can verify things for ourselves. This would have to be through an email that would clearly identify her as being associated with the website.
Finally this has nothing to do with differences in national copyright laws. The same approach would be taken with a website in any country. DJ Clayworth (talk) 14:11, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Can I also remind you that a person has to be notable to get an article on Wikipedia. It is not clear that James ben Ali Haggin is notable. From reading the website he seems to have been a rich farmer, only significant because of his house. It would be helpful to have a brief summary of his achievements. DJ Clayworth (talk) 14:19, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DJ Only someone who likes making arbitrary rulings out of complete ignorance and laziness would have made the mistakes that you did. All I have to do is look at the subjects that you added to see that half or more are not as well known as James ben Ali Haggin. He is notable on numerous grounds as a lawyer, rancher, miner and horse breeder. He was also notable for being part Turkish among Turkish Americans. Also the page that the public domain text is on has the owners email address. Not contacting her to ask whether her note is a forgery is your omission not mine. I have also found out that it is possible for an edit cowboy to arbitarily remove an article which another editor has negotiated changes into eventual approval but that is another historic profile Pierce.

Thanks for explaining the single line problem

Hi Richard. Please can you make sure that you sign any posts you make on a talk page. Do this by adding four tildes at the end of your edit like this: ~~~~. They will be converted to your name and the date and time automatically.
Can you also please refrain from insulting other editors and accusing them of incompetence or laziness when they are trying to help you out. You will not make any friends here if you continue like this. Wikipedia is a community effort and you need to abide by its rules and conventions if you want to participate. The process of checking copyright assertion takes time, and your impatience is not helping.
Can I also point out that the text that you pasted into Wikipedia is entirely inappropriate for an encyclopedia article and at best will require extensive editing to conform to theWikipedia:Manual of style. Are you going to do that editing, or are you going to leave it to one of the other 'lazy' people who edit this encyclopedia? DJ Clayworth (talk) 18:17, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DJ What you have demonstrated is power, subjective judgement and arbitraryness. You have totally removed an article without even checking with the person whose copyright you not they are claiming that the article is under. Addition of information and stylistic changes can not be made to a void space. Are you going to replace the article when you have bothered to contact Linda Haggin Peck? Most of the historians that I know that I bring up Wikipedia to are either mystified by how to join or are burned out from having done so. There is no reason why I should accept that Caryl Churchill is notable but my knowledge of drama performance in England is limited and I can accept that. In the same situation reversed you use your ignorance as reason for deletion. RichardBond (talk) 18:59, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As you will find when you have been here a bit longer, the burden is on the person adding material to Wikipedia to show that it satisfies the copyright and notability requirements. DJ Clayworth (talk) 19:19, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

By that reasoning DJ most of your articles added would not past muster on notability grounds. Most of my new article additions have been articles from before 75 years ago which I added additional information to. That period is longer in Britain I know but it is not the same law here. Hello. Concerning your contribution, James Pieronnet Pierce, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.santaclararesearch.net/SCBIOS/JJPIERCEbio.html. As a copyright violation, James Pieronnet Pierce appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. James Pieronnet Pierce has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:James Pieronnet Pierce and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:James Pieronnet Pierce with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:James Pieronnet Pierce.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. Thank you. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 23:19, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Vancouver Stock Exchange

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Vancouver Stock Exchange requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Notability of Ibrahim Ben Ali

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Ibrahim Ben Ali, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Ibrahim Ben Ali seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Ibrahim Ben Ali, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. notability is fine

[edit]

As reviewing administrator, I think the notability as a mining pioneer is fine. But, and it is a very big but, it appears that this is also a copyright violation--see the talk page. You are responsible for the content you paste from other sites, and it appears exceedingly likely that the author of that page did not have permission for the material she used from a printed source. Whether she did or did not give you permission under WP:GFDL, which is much more than just permission to use in WP, is irrelevant. If you would like to claim that you did not use more than a small fair use excerpt from that source, please provide exact quotation marks for the material used. Be aware that paraphrase does not meet our policy. The information DJClayworth posted above with respect to another article is perfectly correct. (and the current US copyright date before which material is Public Domain is 95 years for published works, unless you can show it falls under the various exceptions.) DGG (talk) 09:25, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've left some advice for how to rewrite it on its talk page. DGG (talk) 09:54, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The date of the original publication is before the cut off point for copyright protection under United States law and is there for public domain. RichardBond (talk) 23:13, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The source, History of Kentucky, give a publication date of 1928. 1928+95=1923. unless you can demonstrate why that date is wrong, or how it falls under the exceptions, I shall nominate the article for deletion by the appropriate method. DGG (talk) 22:00, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I did not understand the 95 years to extend to a work published that early. I understood it as present and future works. In either case it would be good to have Linda Haggin Peck do the rewrite because she has additional info that is not in the book. Would that put works by someone who died in 1916 back under copyright? That is less than 95 years, if so Jack London's heirs now have a fortune in the royalties coming from US publishers that they no longer thought they had. Would that make them the only producer of Hawaiian rum in the state? Viriditas (talk) 12:07, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think so. There was a Hawaiian Whaler brand for a while which was actually made out of bulk high proof rum from the Virgin Islands. RichardBond (talk) 13:02, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Fredo Arias-King

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Fredo Arias-King, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Not sufficiently notable

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.

Well I added information despite beginning with their self description. Most of the time it has been the confusion of the other Wikipedia editor regarding the difference between American and British copyright law. American copyright lapses into public domain sooner.RichardBond (talk) 09:13, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what that means. How could you possibly think a copyright from 2006 (as the page you copied from was clearly marked) was in the public domain? Well, here's your notice. In the United States, generally if the work was created after January 1, 1978, the work is copyrighted for the life of the author plus seventy years, meaning you would take the date of death of the author of the work and add seventy years to it to find when the copyright lapsed (this is similar to most United Kingdom copyrights). That means that if the author of that web page died back in 2006, the copyright wouldn't lapse until 2076. In some cases the copyright may last longer. There are many arcane rules but essentially, nothing you ever come across that is not a U.S. Federal government work and which doesn't say, expressly, that it is released into the public domain, is out of copyrighted if it dates after 1923. Let me translate further: Do not post any text on Wikipedia whose source doesn't clearly date to December 31, 1922 or earlier unless it says it is in the public domain, is under a free license, or is a work of the U.S. federal government. Note also that we do not agree with plagiarism. In other words, even if a work is out of copyright, you must provide attribution to the work you are taking the text from. For example, see the attirbution statement someone added to your unattributed plagiarism which is the subject of the thread below this one.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 15:21, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the biographies I have found of people I am interested are much older than 1978. The coverage of American copyright law until recently was considerably Also 1922+75=1997 RichardBond (talk) 22:14, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to assume good faith here and I am having trouble at this point. This was copyrighted as of 2006. And again, 70 years plus life of the author is for copyrights starting after 1978. 1923 is the date for before that. And you are guilty of plagiarism multiple times over by failing to attribute where you got pubic domain text, regardless of copyright (though you may not have understood that part, which you can't claim now).--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 15:59, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/E-verify. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 139 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

A tag has been placed on Fighting Gravity(performance artists) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. A tag has been placed on Juan Hernandez (diplomat) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement of http://www.juanhernandez.org/index-1.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

Please note that even if the copyright issue were resolved, the promotional tone of a company or personal website is likely to be unsuitable for an encyclopedia article, which requires a neutral point of view. Article subjects need to have notability, which is not a matter of opinion but must be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." There is more detail at WP:Notability (people), and good advice on how to write an acceptable article at WP:Your first article. JohnCD (talk) 16:59, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Biographical information is going to have overlapping sections regardless of the source. I do not consider myself to be a fan of Hernandez and I am curious to see what the entry you had removed said. In either case what should have been done is clearly different from what you did which was wrong. A person with Ambassadorial status is clearly of sufficient notability. The article might and I only say might have been such that it should have been reduced to a stub.RichardBond (talk) 01:17, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

Hello! I have recently been re-reading Lord Churchill's Coup by Stephen Saunders Webb, which includes a highly detailed section on the Boston revolt. The book describes two times during the course of the revolt when Andros was arrested. First was when he left Fort Mary with his aides and confronted his own rebellious council; the militia officers with the council arrested him and placed him under house arrest. Second was when a band of militia from the countryside marched into Boston and brought him to the jail itself. Unless Bond was an officer of that militia group, I am guessing he was one of those who arrested Andros at the council meeting. I'll see if his name is listed as one of the officers. dci | TALK 21:44, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Dan Rivera (politician) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable local politician, possibly A7-worthy, but "mayor-elect" is just this side of an assertion of notability in my book.

Hello RichardBond. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Anita Thompson Dickinson Reynolds".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Anita Thompson Dickinson Reynolds}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 12:25, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hiram Bithorn

[edit]

You wrote on my talk page the following:

Your attribution of Hiram Bithorn surname as English or Irish origin is actually incorrect the surname was originally van Bithoorn and it is from the Netherlands. The family moved to Puerto Rico from St. Croix and some of his relatives still live there. I may not have put in an online citation but you are just guessing.

For your information, I am not guessing, the information was obtained from a surname website. As you know, I have been in Wikipedia for a very long time and I am not about to make up that kind of s--t. Now, you made a statement in regard to the surname Bithorn being originally van Bithoorn and it is from the Netherlands. Nice, prove your allegations as and cite and provide a reliable source as required by Wikipedia policy. You can start at "Ancestry.com" under "Bithorn Family History". Good luck. Speedy deletion nomination of Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed

[edit]

Hello RichardBond,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. BeowulfBrower (talk) 00:04, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I declined that speedy and the subsequent re-prodding by someone else. An error made is that an article NEVER has to say "this topic is notable because...", as notability is determined through sources (used or not) being available for improvement. Go check the talk page search links and do some expansion, please. As the topic is under many eyes, please source the heck out of everything. Good luck. Nathaniels Prime

[edit]

Hallo, thanks for your recent work in disentangling the two people who had been mixed into one article. Unfortunately, you set about it the wrong way - by deleting the content of Nathaniel Prime to copy it to the two new articles you lost the record of the contributions of all previous editors and made it look as if you had written the pieces yourself. I'm unpicking the muddle. I've left the financier as the Primary Topic, and the other man at (naval officer), and placed the {{copied}} template to acknowledge that the content of the naval officer article came from the other one. If you believe that they are equally likely to be sought in the encyclopedia, please do a formal Move Request to move the financier to Nathaniel Prime (financier). That's the way to do page moves. An article you recently created, Jose Franklin Jurado-Rodriguez, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Notice

The article Exportadora de Sal, S.A., of C.V. has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced since 2009 with no indication of notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A tag has been placed on Louis Whitford Bond requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://books.google.com/books?id=5rk3AAAAMAAJ&dq=%22whitford%20bond%22&pg=PA1136#v=onepage&q=%22whitford%20bond%22&f=false. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. DS Alert

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Your recent editing history at Center for Immigration Studies shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.   • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Conflict of interest policy

[edit]

Information icon Hello, RichardBond. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. --Hipal (talk) 16:50, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have a conflict of interest regarding the article you posted about. I do see that on closer examination the Pakistani officials were meeting about the refinery elsewhere. There has been important news about the Khalifa Point refinery this month and construction steps have begun. I will edit my previous text to the article to make it more accurate. RichardBond (talk) 17:14, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for responding. It's Mahira Khan ‎ (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) that caught my eye. The refinery bit is just more of the same.
Have you looked over WP:SOAP and WP:NOTNEWS? Do you understand what press releases are and why they are very poor references? --Hipal (talk) 17:28, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The information on the refinery is not a press release it is in three different journals. RichardBond (talk) 17:31, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That is your error Hipal you should recognize that and correct your own error. RichardBond (talk) 17:34, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I just checked the Mahira Khan Wikipedia article and that is from an article in the Nation. It turns out that you were wrong on that one too. RichardBond (talk) 17:37, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hipal instead of correcting your errors you removed an update on the status of the Khalifa Point Refinery. That is being malicious rather than your doing appropriate editing when I am just keeping articles current citing journals. RichardBond (talk) 18:09, 23 December 2020

I didn't mean to put you on the defensive. You didn't answer my questions. I consider these NOTNEWS and SOAP situations. The publisher alone doesn't resolve these problems. Yes, I could have made a mistake. Shall we look at the references closely? --Hipal (talk) 18:48, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Hamira Khan's relationship with Eighteen is an ongoing part time job. The Khalifa Point Refinery will be the largest refinery in Pakistan it is already permitted and now it is financed and finally under way. RichardBond (talk) 18:50, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

My point is that in both situations, the references look like press releases to me. I didn't see that there were three versions of the refinery ref. Are they all the same press release? --Hipal (talk) 19:07, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If the citation was from Eighteen .com .pk or the Ministry of Energy .gov.pk I would understand and accept your point but many news stories result from a reporter editorializing and commenting on a press release or a press release may result from a newsworthy event. RichardBond (talk) 19:23, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Quantity rarely makes up for lack of quality. Best if you'd link these other potential refs rather than just state that they exist and you feel they are better. --Hipal (talk) 20:54, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have found the references but knowing you I realize you would remove them too. RichardBond (talk) 20:17, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Look you, the entire paragraph it is in is thematically identical each company earlier in the paragraph is an ambassadorship. Eighteen is just different in that is a real estate development instead of a consumer product. They are all part of an accurate description of Mahira Khan. You are pretending to be a better editor when I am just at a disadvantage for my having turned down advancement. RichardBond (talk) 21:50, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

My word Hipal you are cheesier than I initially thought. I see that you removed the description of Jon Ossoffs father. This section of Kelly Loefflers article is a description of her father's career that there is a description of parents careers is normal. It is usually at the beginning of articles as with Kelly Loeffler than in personal life.

Loeffler was born in Bloomington, Illinois to Don and Lynda (née Munsell) Loeffler, and raised on her family's corn and soybean farm in Stanford, Illinois.

Engaging in following and hounding are discouraged behaviors here on Wikipedia. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Harassment#Wikihounding RichardBond (talk) 22:03, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest you assume good faith and either avoid BLPs altogether or spend the time necessary to work on BLP content in a manner that doesn't violate strictly-enforced content policies. --Hipal (talk) 02:55, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You are clearly creating reasonable doubt that you are acting in good faith nor did my addition violate Wikipedia content policies. If mentioning brand ambassador arrangements violated Wikipedia the content policy large amounts of the existing BLPs of sports and entertainment stars would need to be removed. e.g. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_Woods#Endorsements You also removed descriptive text regarding Jon Ossoff's father Richard Ossoff. The BLPs usually describe parents early in the article and a citation needed would have been more appropriate. Your going to other articles appears to be referenced behavior. RichardBond (talk) 03:28, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you continue to edit as you have, you'll be blocked or banned. That's policy.
If you want to pursue your concerns with my behavior, I encourage it. However, I won't waste my time with someone unable to assume good faith. --Hipal (talk) 17:37, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

When it is possible to see several whole paragraphs on the same subject on the Wikipedia biography of another Living Person Tiger Woods and not write so much as a sentence about the brand ambassador positions of Mahira Khan it obviously has nothing to do with Wikipedia content rules. Nor are you by any means acting in good faith you have some sort of thing for Mahira Khan. Each time I added information about Mahira Khan you also reverted information in other Wikipedia article edits I had made though they had no connection to Mahira Khan. RichardBond (talk) 18:51, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Other stuff exists is a poor excuse at best. High quality references are a requirement for WP:BLP information, and editing such information falls under sanctions. --Hipal (talk) 20:13, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. Premier Group of Companies moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Premier Group of Companies, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. I have seen this sort of problem before you are acting as a judge regarding a company in Pakistan while being an editor from New York. The two references I cite are from major Pakistani news journals. The first describes Premier Group as a major Pakistani business group. You are likely to not be Pakistani if you were you would recognize the journal in the first citation Business Recorder as being authoritative. RichardBond (talk) 18:08, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I had hoped to put the article back up but got discouraged by the thought that the editor who thought the article had inadequate references or notability might be lurking and repeat their error. There were several problems with your attempt to change the Santa Fe Group article into EAC Invest A/S. Your first attempt appear to be a cut-and-paste move, and an informational template message about this is given below. Your second attempt at moving the page was broken, as it moved the page into the Wikipedia: namespace instead. In any case, since EAC Invest A/S is no longer a red link, you'll need to file a WP:Requested move.

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Santa Fe Group. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. I created a project page for a retitling and the project page is now redirecting to the wrongly titled page. RichardBond (talk) 02:08, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Moving the article to a project page is not going to help. If you're that unfamiliar with Wikipedia's mechanism of renaming pages, you should really make a request and wait for others to sort things out. The simplest course of action now, presuming the change is uncontroversial, would be for you to request speedy deletion of the new EAC Invest A/S page that you created by placing the {{db-g7}} tag there. Then, when an admin has deleted the page (might have to wait several hours or up to days), use the Move button to rename the Santa Fe Group article to EAC Invest A/S. --Paul_012 (talk) 02:19, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, RichardBond,
Moving an article that has existed for 15+ years to project space, to Wikipedia:EAC Invest A/ S, demonstrates to me that you do not have the competence to be moving articles around at all. Moving a long-standing article should be proposed on the article talk page. Please do not do any "bold" page moves in the future. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 03:50, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Santa Fe Relocation business was sold as far back as 2019 and the article which is title Santa Fe Group had only been changed to that title shortly before in 2015 yet it has not been appropriately retitled. The corporate changes separating the Santa Fe Relocation business from EAC Invest A/S are also referenced within the article. It seems the editors criticizing me have not read the Wikipedia article or looked for news articles on the companies. Whoever else made changes without noticing the content or searching for other current news articles should have changed it before I found it. RichardBond (talk) 04:09, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No one is criticising you for updating the article with newer sources. You have my thanks for that, and I'm sure others appreciate the work as well. The only problem here is that the attempts to rename the article were not done properly. MB has now helped move the article to EAC Invest A/S. Hopefully, things are now cleared up. --Paul_012 (talk) 05:45, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Thanks for contributing to the article Scottish American Investment Company. However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that contributions must be verifiable through reliable sources, preferably using inline citations. Please help by adding more sources to the article you edited, and/or by clarifying how the sources already given support the claims (see here for how to do inline referencing). If you need further help, you can look at Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia, or ask at the Teahouse, or just ask me. Thank you. Dormskirk (talk) 16:00, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Fonio. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. If it were not possible to add links to the webpages of companies in an industry like Fonio it would not be possible to add links in articles about them. The existence of a fully mechanical process solution for Fonio from CAA should actually be in the article. RichardBond (talk) 21:25, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
