A tag has been placed on The Queen's Awards for Enterprise (2009) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Note from Claire

[edit]

Hi Rich, I am really sorry as I'm very new to Wikipedia and know I am probably doing this completely wrong! My name is Claire and I'm a graphic design student. I am currently working on a film project and am making my film about the subject of Wikipedia and the people behind it. I was wondering if you could help me by answering a few questions? I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for reading this and sorry again for my poor wikipedia talk page etiquette - I have a lot of learning to do!

FAC

[edit]

Rich, it has been quite awhile since we spoke for the last time. I hope you're doing well. I recently nominated Juan Manuel de Rosas for FAC, but the article is often ignored because of its obscure topic. If you have time and interest, could you review it? I'd be truly grateful. Hello Rich Farmbrough, there is an ongoing discussion about professional boxing record tables and I would appreciate if you could share your opinion or at least voice you support or opposition. It would be great if you could voice your opinion here in the "RfC: Flag icons in professional boxing record tables" and "MoS:Boxing Final call" section. Cheers!--Fallengrademan (talk) 19:38, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! This has been languishing at WP:SCV for a while now. I've just looked at it, and I find the amount of direct copy-pasting from the single source to the initial version to be quite unacceptable. I've blanked the page and listed it at WP:CP for review. Sorry about that, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:12, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you both! I was pleased to get (that we both got) a positive score - but somewhat relieved not to be appointed. I felt I had to offer. Nine worthies of different types were appointed, so we can hope they will do better, but I'm not holding my breath. My main concern is that the same pressures will result in the same results as previously.
All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 16:37, 10 December 2015 (UTC).[reply]
  • Yes, Rich, I was surprised you had received so many opposes, after all the extensive help you have provided to Wikipedia (1 million real edits!), plus promoting the fast-cite templates which would have made large pages format 2x faster (4 years ago!). So I am stunned by the way some people think; however, I have seen many other intelligent people frustrated in committee work, so I am actually glad your talents would not be wasted in that manner. Meanwhile, we need smarter templates, and I see people want a type of Template:Inflation to handle larger expenditures, such as capital investments, so we need to see if our templates can be improved or expanded (and not deleted by a small core of opposes). -Wikid77 (talk) 16:42, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I also just want to say that within my general voting I supported you. We didn't talk before but I saw some cases-discussions, I noticed you with giving professional comments - knowledgeable and pleasant. I think you would have been great for this committee, hope you may want to try again in the future. Best wishes. אומנות (talk) 15:36, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of 2100

[edit]

Hello Rich Farmbrough,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged 2100 for deletion, because it's too short to identify the subject of the article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Joel.Miles925 (talk) 16:11, 18 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't know that it was vandalized... it came through the new page feed, and so naturally I thought that was a new page. I apologize.

Complete list

[edit]

Long time, no post on your talk page — hope you're doing well. Just wanted to drop in quickly to ask a question about an edit you made recently, to {{Complete list}}. The edit was the inclusion of the Articles containing potentially dated statements category. This category tree is built at the year and month level, however some uses of the template went right down to the day because that level of accuracy was possible, which broke the categorization when that was included.

Wondering if you had any thoughts on how that could be resolved without losing the specificity, short of creating sub-categories for every day of every month going forward? Mlaffs (talk) 13:31, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it did. Can you give an example? All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 14:24, 21 December 2015 (UTC).[reply]

Technical Help

[edit]

Hey, I need your help with this Template:Quote_Quran_translation. Can you please edit this template and make the text begins from the left side instead of the center? Also, it would be better if you remove this site: http://www.usc.edu/org/cmje/religious-texts/quran/ and add this site: http://www.islamawakened.com/index.php/qur-an because this website has much more translations. And there's another thing – the template gives the "Translatornumber" for a specific number of translators, and when I replace the number with name of translator it shows "translated by error", for example:

The Quran, chapter 2 (Al-Baqara), verse 164:[1]

Surely in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day (with their periods shortening and lengthening), and the vessels sailing in the sea with profit to people, and the water that God sends down from the sky, therewith reviving the earth after its death and dispersing therein all kinds of living creatures, and His disposal of the winds, and the clouds subservient between sky and earth – surely there are signs (demonstrating that He is the One God deserving worship, and the sole Refuge and Helper) for a people who reason and understand.
— translated by Ali Ünal

I really hope that you can help me with this. Thanks in advance!--65.111.173.161 (talk) 22:22, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Most of this is overstyled for Wikipedia. I have made some of the changes you suggest, and replaced the "pull quotes" with "block quote". The translator number seems to be based on a table now long gone, I can't see that it has any academic or reference basis. I have provided {{{translator}}} to override this.
I will look at this again presently in more detail. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 21:05, 22 December 2015 (UTC).[reply]

Thanks! Here's three useful tips:
  1. Often you can undo edits that are not the most recent, using the "undo" function.
  2. If AnomieBot (or one day Helpful Pixie Bot) are dating tags, you can undo that with no worries, the bot will reapply its edit after a decent interval.
  3. You are quite competent enough to have fixed this yourself.
