Grand Theft Auto V controversies
Hey Rhain. I was bored today and created a draft for a purported split of the GTA V controversies. Please have a look and tell me what you think. I don't have time to work on it anymore today, but if you have a moment, feel free to see if you can expand out any of the sections with more reliable sources. I didn't really do a proper lead section yet, and I thought that input from Steven Ogg on the torture sequence would be an important addition but didn't have time to get into it today. Feel free to go nuts and edit away. CR4ZE (t • c) 03:27, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
- CR4ZE, you finally started it! I'll see what I can do. I like what you've got so far. -- Rhain1999 (talk to me) 06:18, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
- Also, I'm not sure if it's helpful, but Carolyn Petit has actually written a bit of a response to the criticisms about her review over on her blog. I don't know if there's anything there that can be included in the article, but I thought I should mention it nonetheless. -- Rhain1999 (talk to me) 11:20, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for that Rhain. I put Petit's blog in because I think her sentiments are a nice way to finish up that section. I think there's more to be said about the torture controversy, so I'm inviting you to help me out with that if you have the time. If you see any good sources for inclusion, let me know. I'll try to work more on this section. CR4ZE (t • c) 03:26, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- I really like the way that the page is coming together, CR4ZE. I've been meaning to see if I can work on it at all, but I've just been busy with some other articles. I'll try and help out in the future, in any way I can. Keep up the fantastic work! -- Rhain1999 (talk to me) 07:30, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

FYI what I found out about Notifications, and question
Hi Rhain1999, thanks for stopping by my DYK and sorry you couldn't stop by earlier. I thought I had pinged you and thought you were ignoring it, but I just ran a quick test with the help of another editor: the {{u|Rhain1999}} template does not notify the editor as the Ping template (and the manually done [[User:Rhain1999]]) does; my apologies; I will not use the U template anymore. Say, could you let me know more detail about sourcing problems with that article that you mentioned in case I do take it to FA? Cheers. Prhartcom (talk) 15:18, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
- No need to apologise; I usually add my DYK reviews to my watchlist, but I have must forgotten this time. As for the article itself: most of it is brilliantly written. I had a quick skim through Gameplay and Plot (haven't played it yet, so I don't wish to spoil it for myself) and they look pretty good to me. The Development section, while brilliantly written and researched (seriously, good job on that one), feels a little short. Of course, I haven't looked into the development of the game, so maybe there's not much information out there, but I feel as though it could be a little longer. It's also possible that you're not very keen on thorough research into the development, and that's fine too; there's plenty of development articles whose editors I'm sure could help out. Personally, I would also merge Development and Release (which has been done on The Last of Us) but this is in no way required, and is simply a personal preference. You should always do what you feel is right.
- My main concern is the Reception section. If you look at articles like Grand Theft Auto V, Grand Theft Auto IV or Infamous Second Son (among many others), you'll see that they focus on specific elements of the games in separate paragraphs, such as the gameplay, open world, characters, and plot. Also, the review table should be cut down to include about 10–15 reviews. This is basically my only real concern with the article. Other than that, I really like what you've done with it, and could absolutely see it reaching FA one day. Let me know if you need any help, or have any remaining concerns. Thank you! -- Rhain1999 (talk to me) 21:15, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
- Rhain1999, this is so helpful; I took a look at the other game articles you mention and I see what you mean; the reception section of the article I improved summarizes the reviews quite a bit too much, doesn't it. No trouble with the sources, it's just there isn't enough prose expounding on the material from the sources. I would definitely have no trouble expanding that section now that I see a good example of what to shoot for. Perhaps I will look you up then for a quick read-through (hopefully you will have played the game by that time; I hope you enjoy it). Cheers.
- Say, as a test of Wikipedia's notification system, could you please type
{{u|Prhartcom}}
below and save your changes? I just heard from the template developer that there is nothing wrong with the U template after all; let's find out. Prhartcom (talk) 21:31, 10 February 2015 (UTC)- Prhartcom, looking through my notifications, it turns out that I must have actually received a notification from Hafspajen a few days ago, when I was mentioned on the page, but never saw it. Sorry about that; I normally take a thorough look at my notifications. Anyway, I'm glad my feedback is helpful. I'd be happy to take a look at the article whenever you need it; I'm only a message away. I'll try and get around to playing the game sometime in the next few months. -- Rhain1999 (talk to me) 06:34, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
- Don't worry about that. Thanks for testing that, I did receive the notification, but I asked another person to do it and I didn't receive their notification. I think I'll just use the Ping template like you said. Prhartcom (talk) 12:48, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
- Rhain1999, I feel the need to follow-up: The developer says the U template is fixed. (Template talk:User link#Does not notify user) Cheers. Prhartcom (talk) 20:31, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Hey Rhain1999,
I already had a feeling I might've beaten you to the punch! :) Great work on the characters article by the way. --Soetermans. T / C 14:14, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Also, I'll try and work on the Characters article a little more; it's quite difficult to find behind-the-scenes information on some of the other characters. I'll see what I can dig up. -- Rhain1999 (talk to me) 14:18, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Apologies about the new template I implemented and its errors - I realize that I hadn't created it correctly, so documentation was more than likely included. Hello. What is wrong? If article not exist there is red link. Link to other language is nonsense. Please answer me on my discussion page. Eurohunter (talk) 20:43, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for contacting me. As per the guidelines (see WP:REDDEAL), linking to an article from a foreign-language version of Wikipedia is allowed, despite your personal opinions about it. -- Rhain1999 (talk to me)
- It means it must be changed or it is nonsense. In Polish version we have type of "Do not change the red links to blue by the strength." and it is obvious. Eurohunter (talk) 05:43, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean. WP:REDDEAL states that articles may "use a link to the article in the foreign-language version of Wikipedia instead of or next to a red link", so I believe the current use of the link on the Grand Theft Auto Online article is suitable. -- Rhain1999 (talk to me) 08:55, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

Rhain1999, it is up to the person who promotes the nomination to decide which of the reviewed and approved hooks to use, and the promoter's opinion sometimes differs from the reviewer. In this case, the promoter chose a hook that would work well in the final prep slot, which is generally used for quirky hooks.
If you strongly disagree with the hook being used, even though it's one of the three you initially proposed, you can certainly raise the issue at the DYK talk page. However, nominators should not edit their own hooks in prep once they've been promoted, so I've reverted your edit that did just that. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:10, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
- BlueMoonset, thank you for clarifying that for me. Though I would prefer the main hook, I understand why ALT2 was chosen. I apologise for editing the preparation page without further consultation. Thank you for letting me know of the guidelines. -- Rhain1999 (talk to me) 23:20, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

I'll assume you know what I'm talking about. What is "Ignition" then? Is it this? If that is it, it should be linked in the infobox. I don't agree with the caption though because it isn't important. I think it's excessive information. Fez's infobox is fine because the artwork is made by a notable individual. —DangerousJXD (talk) 06:37, 3 June 2015 (UTC)
- Ignition can be found here. I don't think it's too excessive, since it's only a few words in the infobox. -- Rhain1999 (talk to me) 06:40, 3 June 2015 (UTC)
- I don't have a problem with it per se, but how is it notable? Ignition doesn't have an article so if that isn't notable enough to have an article, how is this notable? Yeah they worked on the cover but it isn't, per the last sentence, important. Maybe if this Ignition made it by themselves but the caption is saying that isn't the case. How is the reader supposed to know what Ignition is? —DangerousJXD (talk) 06:50, 3 June 2015 (UTC)
- I guess it's not entirely "notable", as such, but I think it's cool to mention. I guess that's just a personal opinion, though, so I won't revert your edit if you remove it again. -- Rhain1999 (talk to me) 06:52, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

WebCite links
It surprised me seeing that Eddie Murphy clip on loop with the GameSpot link. I don't want to digress while reviewing the page so I'm curious if other GameSpot/Giant Bomb links are like that outside the others. GamerPro64 01:17, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
- GamerPro64, I was surprised to see that too, so I had a look through some of the references on The Last of Us, and they all seem to do the same thing. As far as I can tell, it must be something coded into the sites themselves (perhaps they don't want people archiving their website?). If so, that's very strange. -- Rhain1999 (talk to me) 01:21, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
- That's one possibility. This should be brought up on the project page. GamerPro64 01:24, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
- I agree. It might also be a good idea to contact the GameSpot/Giant Bomb staff, if we can't find a reason/solution ourselves. -- Rhain1999 (talk to me) 01:26, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

A barnstar for you
For your outstanding work on The Last of Us topic: thorough without delving into uninteresting minutiae. The topic's subarticles (Accolades, Development, Music, List of fictional characters, article on Ellie but not Joel) are models for how similar video game articles should be handled in the future (and perhaps more importantly, models for the amount of coverage needed to write a complete subarticle). So here's to getting it right, and somehow mustering the will to finish the topic long after the task becomes a slog. – czar 12:46, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! That means so much to me. It's things like this that make all of my hard work feel worth it. Of course, the examples that editors like you set beforehand helped me out significantly, just as I hope that my work will help other editors in the future. Thank you! -- Rhain1999 (talk to me) 12:53, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
