    Jewish anarchism in Germany

    [edit]

Hi. I was wondering if you know much about Jewish anarchism in Germany, particularly post-war Germany. I'm trying to improve content relating to the post-war Jewish left in Germany. Thank you for your time. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 11:10, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Bohemian Baltimore, unfortunately not in particular. I have a copy of Carlson's Anarchism in Germany, which doesn't emphasize Jewish participation in the movement. There are a few mentions of Germany in the recent compendium With Freedom in Our Ears: Histories of Jewish Anarchism (pp. 11, 22, 31): that fascist Germany banned Esperanto and of socialism in Berlin in the time of Johann Most. There are a few other mentions in that first chapter on Johann Most that might be interesting but not what you're looking for.
I recommend browsing the WorldCat subject headings su:Anarchism Germany and su:Anarchism Germany History for more. Most likely you'll need to search using Germany words in the German language (Jüdischer Anarchismus Deutschland) to find local histories that have not been translated into English. czar 16:02, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bohemian Baltimore I’m reading through this now. Rudolph Rocker was not Jewish but was very influential in Jewish anarchism in Germany and their nexus of influences ie Buenos Aires, London and New York. I would be happy to collaborate further with you on a task list. Post war Jewish radicals were fewer for obvious reasons but plenty in SED leadership and trade unions ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 16:25, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    citations for list of works/bibliography?

    [edit]

Hi Czar, hope you're doing well. I know it's appropriate to include citations for lists of works on author pages. Is it okay to cite the book itself as evidence for its existence? That seems circular. Thanks, Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 15:47, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! In articles on authors, "Selected works" section style is pretty lax, in my experience. Generally it's fine to use the title and date (and optionally, the publisher and ISBN identifier, or even an external link if open access). Including the ISBN or OCLC number is, to my eyes anyway, tantamount to a primary source citation because anyone can look up the work using the identifier. Sometimes, if it's a list of essays or non-books, it can be fine to just use citation templates directly in the section. I agree that it's duplicative to cite the book itself unless it's truly referencing the book. My personal preference is to cite book reviews so it verifies the bibliographic material while providing helpful context for the reader. Hope you're doing well too! czar 01:59, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the advice, I will pass it along to my student. Actually, my Wikipedia work has become something of a dumpster fire! I'm trying to find ways I can contribute productively. Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 18:37, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you today for the article, introduced: "One of my favorite quotes is from the philosopher John Searle speaking in 2010 on French philosophy, in which he says that two famous French philosophers had confided to him that, in France, philosophical writing has to be at least 10 or 20 percent incomprehensible to be perceived as deep and to be taken seriously. I've yet to read a monograph that tackles obscurantism in academia but until then, we have this article.

I started out writing this article about Paul Goodman's dissertation as part of a project to document his works. And Goodman's academic career is such a small, passed-over pocket of the very wide range of topics he covered (spanning 21 sections of the New York Public Library), that I had not seen previously written, with such singular clarity, a group of writers converging to say about his academic debut what could largely be said of his larger career, that this book was full of psychological insight and incisive asides, but he eclipsed his argument with impenetrable style issues and jargon.

I've been working on this Goodman project for nearly a decade now because sometimes incomprehensible sociological works have real-world impact, and writing clearly about unclear texts can be hard, interesting, and sometimes rewarding." - Amazing! - Another person of literature, with more clarity, is on the same page: Peter Demetz. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:53, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

From "WP:NPP" article was tagged as "No citations" so I understand that tagging not always correct. And that "Further reading" section can be sufficient for notablity. Thanks, JoeNMLC (talk) 00:58, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@JoeNMLC, the various potential problem filters at Special:NewPagesFeed are assigned by algorithm, which is precisely why new page patrollers check the flagged articles in the first place instead of just accepting the computer's judgement and draftifying everything that might be a problem. -- asilvering (talk) 08:10, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    MatthewDalhousie (talk) 00:33, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @MatthewDalhousie, hallmarks of reliable sources include having an editorial policy, a reputation for accuracy/fact-checking, and editor pedigree. https://orthochristian.com doesn't appear to have that. Generally sources should have editorial distance from the topics they're covering, so https://ca.thegospelcoalition.org/about/foundation-documents/ and https://catholicvoiceomaha.com/about/ do not appear to be offering neutral commentary. I would like to talk about you reverting the page back to a redirect. I personally find problem that you reverted the page back to a redirect without any discussion on the matter and think you should have done so. I also think it could not be incorporated into EarthBound as video game article don't tend to include lists of characters.

    9S articles

    [edit]

About the 9S (Nier: Automata) articles you removed, what made them these? I tried to make sure they were cited and published by other sources in order to make them reliable and avoid thesis. Is there another requirement needed to publish scholars? CheersTintor2 (talk) 19:37, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Tintor2, those thesis sources have each been cited once apiece.[1][2] They're generally unreliable sources as bachelor's degree theses, not subjected to any rigor of fact checking. The guidance on theses encourages citing published work, i.e., if these articles have noteworthy commentary, they would be published in a peer reviewed journal or as scholarly monographs. czar 23:08, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Railway stations in Karaikudi

    [edit]

Hi Czar, Thanks for the inputs. I just wanted to create the category as the newly formed LPA for Karaikudi city covers the added stations as in the page. The reason i wanted to create the page because these stations will be the suburban stations for the newly formed karaikudi as like "https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Railway_stations_in_Madurai" for Madurai. I will add the needed details like additional references and news about these stations as i collecting and consolidating the same for future updates. The merger you requested is for the old Karaikudi town which is now a city corporation by including the UA area around which has multiple stations apart from a main city junction station which is already included in that page, this is a separate page created for the UA area which may have new stations in the future. So, keeping this page would help us to add the new changes on the UA/City other than the works going on in the old town limits.

    Thanks, Cvcs84 Cvcs84 (talk) 15:50, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Cvcs84, the consensus from Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Railway stations in Karaikudi was that the list would be better off included in Karaikudi#Transport. I'd recommend assisting with the merge and, if needed, starting a discussion on that article's talk page with the deletion discussion's participants if you want them to consider another alternative. czar 21:07, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @CZAR, I got it from the information link.
If it is going to be Karaikudi#Transport, it would be generic. I want to have the new stations added as a separate page for Karaikudi, like the links given for the cities like Madurai "https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Railway_stations_in_Madurai", Tiruchirappalli "https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/List_of_railway_stations_in_Tiruchirappalli" and Coimbatore "https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Railway_stations_in_Coimbatore". Since the developmental works are going on in the suburb stations around Karaikudi City, it would be great to have the link separately as given for the above cities rather than adding the suburb stations to the Transport category, which will be confused if the people look for separate stations.
    Thanks,
    Cvcs84 Cvcs84 (talk) 23:22, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand what you want but that is not the consensus of the discussion. I gave advice above if you'd like to discuss further with the discussion participants, as I only added a summary of their discussion. After the merge, the article title will redirect to the section, so there will be little confusion. czar 13:32, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Hi Czar,
I got it, i am trying to see what should i do in order to keep the page separately, so that the details about the changes in train routes and for suburb stations will be added for a better clarity. It would be great if you advise the page to be a available separately like the above said places (Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore etc).
    Thanks,
    Cvcs84 Cvcs84 (talk) 14:44, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I recommend following the consensus that I mentioned above and merging the content. If you want the other articles to match, I recommend merging those to their articles as well. We don't keep separate article pages when the standalone topic lacks significant coverage in multiple, reliable, secondary sources. czar 17:53, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Restore Parsian IF Page

    [edit]

Dear Czar and the Wikipedia administrative team,

I am writing to formally request a reconsideration of the decision to delete the Wikipedia page for Parsian IF. While I understand the reasoning behind the comparison with similar clubs that have been deleted, I would like to respectfully highlight several key differences that we believe demonstrate Parsian IF's notability and the reasons why it does meet the General Notability Guidelines (GNG).

Several of the clubs referenced in the discussion, such as Blue Hill, Chile Unido IF, and FC Sparta, have been defunct for some time. Others, like Mjölby Turabdin FC and Kristbergs IF, currently compete two divisions below us. Additionally, clubs such as FK Kozara, BK Saturnus, and FC Giffarna are also defunct. The only club in the list that is somewhat comparable to Parsian IF is FK Bosna 92 Örebro, which plays in Division 4 but in a much smaller city. In contrast, Parsian IF plays in Division 4 Stockholm, the highest regional league in Sweden before entering the national league system. Stockholm is the largest and most competitive region in the country, making our level of play, exposure, and ambition significantly different from the teams mentioned.

Parsian IF is a highly ambitious and actively functioning club, firmly established in the Stockholm area. Unlike the defunct or low-tier "friendship clubs" mentioned, we have built a solid foundation and a clear goal of advancing within the Swedish football pyramid. We are recognized as a serious football organization within Stockholm’s sporting community.

Parsian IF is not just another football club. We are unique in being one of the few clubs outside of Iran with a Swedish-Iranian background, serving as a cultural symbol for over 120,000 Swedish-Iranians in Sweden. We have a dedicated following not just in Sweden, but also internationally, in countries such as Iran, the USA, Germany, and elsewhere where Iranian communities reside. This global connection, combined with our active role within the Swedish-Iranian diaspora, makes us well-known and relevant beyond the typical scope of a regional football club. Our presence in the diaspora and our supporters’ engagement help to emphasize the club's importance in ways that extend far beyond our local matches.

Finally, I would like to point out that the fact that we immediately noticed the deletion of our Wikipedia page and are now actively working to have it restored is itself a testament to our level of engagement and ambition as a club. We care deeply about how we are represented, and this shows our commitment not just to football, but also to the visibility and impact of the club both locally and internationally. In light of these facts, we respectfully protest the decision to delete the Parsian IF Wikipedia page and request a review of this matter. We are fully prepared to provide any additional references or information that may be required to demonstrate our notability.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely, Sia Parsian IF Parsianidrottsforening (talk) 11:09, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Parsianidrottsforening, thanks for your engagement with this topic. Since you mention "we", what is your affiliation with the club? Wikipedia has strong guidelines on disclosing the nature of your conflict of interest. For the topic itself, Wikipedia requires significant coverage in multiple, reliable, independent sources for dedicated articles. If you have additional sources from journalists or scholars with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy, especially in non-English languages that our editors might have missed, please do share them for consideration, as the discussion said the topic lacked this coverage. Note that this excludes blogs, local newspapers, passing mentions, and run-of-the-mill coverage, as the point is to have enough reliable, secondary source coverage to write an article that does justice to the topic. czar 14:01, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Hi Czar!

My affiliation with the club is that I am the chairman. I have declared conflict of interest on my page as you can see. I created the account today to be able to contact you guys. I can share sources as you have requested:

Is there anything in the Parsian IF page that is not verified or that you have questions about? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shahram at parsianidrottsforening (talkcontribs) 16:52, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

SvenskaFans appears to be user-generated content per [3]. Its byline is "Siavash", who perhaps coincidentally is the team manager mentioned in the STFF article. The STFF is an affiliated source, not a journalist with editorial distance. The Mitti article is okay but very short, interview-heavy, and lacking content to be the basis for a dedicated article. There would need to be significantly more sourcing to warrant a dedicated article, per the policies I linked in my previous reply, i.e., longer feature articles and analysis in reliable sources. czar 13:15, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! No it is not the same Siavash. Siavash is a common name in Farsi, like having the name Erik in Sweden.
Here you have a reportage from "Sveriges radio" (Public service in Sweden) about Parsian in persian. It is both an article and an interview you can listen to. https://sverigesradio.se/artikel/%D9%BE%D8%A7%D8%B1%D8%B3%DB%8C%D8%A7%D9%86-%D8%A8%D8%A7%D8%B4%DA%AF%D8%A7%D9%87-%D9%81%D9%88%D8%AA%D8%A8%D8%A7%D9%84-%D9%88%DB%8C%DA%98%D9%87%DB%8C-%D8%A7%DB%8C%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%86%DB%8C%D8%A7%D9%86
Here you have an article from some years ago from a newspaper in Sweden called "Vi i Kista" https://pressreader.com/article/281904477241152
Hope this helps. Shahram at parsianidrottsforening (talk) 13:34, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Do you have any update on this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shahram at parsianidrottsforening (talkcontribs) 18:29, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Those two appear to be both interview sources that rely heavily on interview without independent analysis, thus not being independent of the topic. If you were to have three reliable, independent, secondary sources that discuss the topic in depth ready, I could re-open the discussion to consider those sources, but if what you have shared so far is the best available, that discussion would not be productive. I recommend letting the organization gain more coverage and if it reaches the threshold, letting someone independent of the organization create an article on their own. czar 12:39, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are not consistent at all, I don't understand the hunt after us. There is hundreds of clubs in Wikipedia that are smaller than us, that dont have any sources at all. Very strange. Shahram at parsianidrottsforening (talk) 07:26, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If other clubs similarly do not have in-depth coverage, their articles should go up for discussion as well when someone gets around to it. czar 01:27, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cover art for the 2018 video game Celeste

Celeste is a 2018 platform game developed and published by indie studio Maddy Makes Games. The player controls Madeline, a young woman with anxiety and depression who aims to climb Celeste Mountain. During her climb, she encounters several characters, including Part of You, a personification of her self-doubt who attempts to stop her from climbing the mountain. Development of Celeste began in August 2015, when game developers Maddy Thorson and Noel Berry participated in a game jam, where they created Celeste for the PICO-8. Celeste released as a full game on January 25, 2018, for Linux, macOS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows, before being released on Xbox One the following day, and on Google Stadia in July 2020.
