If you need any help with anything please feel free to let me know, you may find the Wikipedia Cheatsheet a good reference if you don't know something in our "wiki text" format but it looks like you're doing pretty darn well already :) Thanks for all your work! Henry and William and Jane and Marianne
[edit]Dear Friend,
Thank you for editing Henry Williams (missionary). And special thanks for creating Jane and Marianne Williams. As you may have noticed, I edited Jane. Please take a look at my edits. My language skills are bad (as I'm a native Dutchie), but I do have some experience in working at wikipedia. I also want to contribute more to the content of the articles. But I'm quite busy with some other things now, so that may take some time. Perhaps when I'm back in Aotearoa in september, I'll continue working on the Williams-family.
I do have a few remarks that I want to point out to you, just as remarks from a colleague:
- Following the Manual of Style it is not common to put quotations in italics (section: Italics / subsection: Quotations in italics). So I removed the italics again. If you do this kind of editing, I advise you to inspect the MOS first.
- If it is possible, avoid making large numbers of very small edits. The “page history” gets clogged with a great number of very small edits. For instance: Henry Williams is on my watchlist. If I want to see what you have done I have to check all the about 70 different versions you produced within a few days. So if it is the same to you, I want to ask you to do more (related) changes in one go. See also: Wikipedia_talk:Pruning_article_revisions. As far as I could check there is no guideline like MOS concerning this, but to my opinion it is good to keep the number of edits reasonable low. I use my text-processor to do all the editing, and put all the changes in one or a few edits. That keeps the “page-history” short and synoptic. But perhaps I exaggerate to the other extreme.
I hope to see more interesting edits on Aotearoa-issues! Greetings, Dick Bos (talk) 15:50, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
- Hello MozzazzoM, I see that you have an interest in NZ missionaries and that you've had a good go at the Williams family. I thought I draw your attention to Samuel Williams. I set up this stub a few days ago because I was of the believe that it is one of the very few articles missing of persons listed in the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography, but it turns out that there are actually quite a few DNZB listings not on Wikipedia yet. Anyway, I have no interest in turning this article into something more decent, but you might; hence this note. Keep up your good work. Schwede66 02:46, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
Hi MozzazzoM. I have reverted your last edits to Treaty of Waitangi mainly because of what you say in the edit summary: "adding discussion as to the interpretation of the treaty with a comparison to terms used in the declaration of indepencence 1835 with references to primary texts". That just made me wonder whether you are aware of the policy Wikipedia:Original research and what it says about the use of primary, secondary and tertiary sources. I think the main thrust is that we need to quote what reliable sources have written, rather than base our contributions on our own research. Let's know what you think anyway. Kahuroa (talk) 21:22, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
Reply to Kahuroa (talk) 21:22, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi Kahuroa,
My opinion is that what I added to the Treaty of Waitangi does not conflict with the "original research" policy, which as you know is relevant to facts, allegations, and ideas, “for which no reliable, published source exists”. The reliable, published source I used is NZ History online which references Archives New Zealand. http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/media/interactive/the-declaration-of-independence
I would also say that what I have added meets the other Wikipedia core content policies of:
- Neutral point of view – I am not adding my opinion or interpretation of the English and Māori language versions of the Declaration of Independence; I am quoting NZ History online content. Perhaps what I stated in the edit summary - “adding discussion” – was not the best choice of words, as I am not adding my discussion or original research. What I am adding is ‘context’ to the following discussion on the meaning and interpretation of the Treaty of Waitangi that is referenced to the secondary material written by Ruth Ross and Judith Binney. The context I am adding is that that Henry Williams used ‘kāwanatanga’, ‘Kingitanga’ and ‘mana’ in his translation of the Declaration of Independence that was signed 5 years before the treaty of Waitangi.
- Verifiability – is the reference to NZ History online, which readers can click through to and read the full English and Māori language versions of the Declaration of Independence.
In summary I believe that I have quoted reliable sources for what I have written, which is both expressed in a neutral point of view and contains verifiable contents, and I have not carried out “my own research” (in breach of the Wikipedia content policy) in quoting from NZ History Online regarding the use of ‘kāwanatanga’, ‘Kingitanga’ and ‘mana’ in the Declaration of Independence. (MozzazzoM (talk) 00:57, 31 August 2011 (UTC))
- Thanks, that clears it up for me. I will restore your edits. Kahuroa (talk) 01:03, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for your response Kahuroa (talk) 01:03, 31 August 2011 (UTC) I had thought this topic would lead to discussion in the NZ Wikipedian community so I posted a summary of my explanation at Wikipedia:New Zealand Wikipedians' notice board. Your prompt response has probably ended that discussion - unless of course some other Wikipedian may choose to intervene on this topic (MozzazzoM (talk) 01:20, 31 August 2011 (UTC))
Mackenzie Kiritome
[edit]Hi. Thanks for all your work on the Parliament of Tuvalu page. I'm curious, though: You've listed Mackenzie Kiritome as being an Opposition MP. I've been unable to find out what his political alignment is - and thus unable to determine whether the Opposition has three seats, or four. How did you find the information? And while I'm at it, do you know who the Leader of the Opposition is? (I'm guessing it's Ielemia, but I don't know.) Thanks. Aridd (talk) 12:00, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks. It's remarkably difficult to find information on the politics of Tuvalu… The Fenui News bulletin published after the election ("special bulletin 3"), which I can no longer find online but that I saved as a pdf to my computer, says explicitly on page 4 that Samuelu Teo and Puakena Boreham are on the government side. Since the IPU says the government has 11 MPs (which I hadn't seen), that does indeed mean, logically, that Kiritome is sitting with the Opposition. And maybe when Parliament sits, we'll find out who the Leader of the Opposition is… Aridd (talk) 17:13, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
Adam Matthew citations trend in the Church Missionary Society in New Zealand article
[edit]Dear MozzazzoM
Your work on the Church Missionary Society in New Zealand has generated a 300% increase in the Adam Matthew citations and usage since the beginning of 2015 and has come to the attention of both the publisher and Wikipedia Library metrics coordinators.
Are you able to help me with some views and information on your work, and in particular the advantages of being able to access paywalled content via Wikipedia Library?
The team is keen to see more publishers open up resources to editors of Wikipedia and spreading the news of impact like yours is one way to encourage them. Publicity would be a blog entry to start with and some targeting of appropriate outlets to follow.
Yours provides a really interesting case study of how a paywalled set of materials can help one person do amazing work, and perhaps you might throw light on the diffculty of finding well curated materials on any given topic, and how targeted resource access through TWL and Research Exchange has assisted you in your work?
If you reply via my talk page we may be able to set up a more immediate email connection to enable more streamlined discussion.
Best Regards, James sinarau (talk) 00:18, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
Persondata
[edit]Regarding this edit, I thought I'd point out that there is no point adding to the persondata, as their use has been deprecated. I shall add his birth place to the prose as otherwise that info will be lost; I believe all the persondata info has already been transferred to Wikidata, and I wouldn't expect that additions will also make it across to there. Schwede66 06:20, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
Elisala Pita?
[edit]Hi. I've had a look online, but I can't find any reference to Pita's death. Of course, even major news tends to filter out online very slowly from Tuvalu, or not at all… How did you hear about his death? If there any reference (even an offline one) you can add to the article? Aridd (talk) 09:05, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

Someone has confused Titore and Titere who are two different people. See the book TUAI: A TRAVELLER IN TWO WORLDS. The image provided is of Titere, not Titore, and Titore did not go to England. [edit]Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution
[edit] Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Tuvalu into Foreign relations of Tuvalu. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. Benuaroa (a combined name for the islets of Mataboou and Tebuange) village held the least number of the island’s population, with only 84 people or 3% of the total population.", but many more articles, desserving AfD, not respecting WP:GEOLAND have been created in 2008. you commented them in 2015, with no result. May I have some help about the deletion of Tetabakea? Ko rabwa.
Regarding your edits to the table, could you add sources. The dates given were those in the sources used, so now if anyone checks the table in the sources, it will appear to have been falsified/vandalised. Cheers, Number 57 21:57, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

[edit]hello you did not reply to my previous posts. Never. I have thanked you, several times, for the main (or small) improvement you have made to many articles concerning the Gilbert and Ellice Islands, but you have never replied to my aknowledgments. By the way, I still think that you are doing a good job (on the governor, on the census, and so). I am a little perplex with Micronesia navigation, because Micronesia is only a traditional and very racist division of the Pacific. If Polynesians exist, Micronesians do not. it is not a scientific category.--Arorae (talk) 18:22, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
Fanning Island date
[edit]There were two white men employing natives of the Society Islands to collect coconut oil on Fanning as early as 1847. So the date of "about 1857" can't be right. See John Jay, of Sag Harbor, December 26, 1847, Nantucket Historical Association #120. ST1849 (talk) 01:58, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

Inuit navigation
[edit]Nice work on Inuit navigation. I was wondering if you could expand a bit on the map section. It says "Maps were also drawn on skins using available dyes from minerals or vegetable dyes." One thing about the Arctic is that there is a lack of vegetables (it's why I moved here). Does the source explain what vegetables were used and where abouts? Cheers. Subjected to or subject to?
[edit]With regard to your recent edits - which I appreciate - to the article about Tuvalu which answer to my request for clarification, I wonder whether replacing the word “subjected” in:
”however the low-lying atolls and reef islands of Tuvalu are subjected to seawater flooding during storm cyclones and storms.”
by “subject” = “likely to be affected by or to experience something” [1] and “to have or experience a particular thing, especially something unpleasant” [2] would be an improvement. Cf. [3].
My knowledge of English is insufficient to be completely certain, but the wording “subjected to” suggests to me that someone actively and knowingly subjects (Tuvalu) to flooding.Redav (talk) 23:55, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comment. I have changed "are subject to" to be "are susceptable to". I am not sure that "subject to" implies there is "someone actively or knowingly" engaged in the actions being discussed, when talking about the weather and other natural phenomena impacting on a place. Of course there are subtleties of meaning possible. Perhaps a subtlety of meaning is that "subject to" implies something is more "likely" to occur, than when writing something is "susceptible to", but I don't think either implies a precise sense of probability of something occuring. Later sections on the geography of Tuvalu attempt to convey what are the causes of, and consequences of, wave action on the shores of the islands of Tuvalu, including cyclones, storms and equinoctial tides/king tides. Hello Mozzazzo! I wanted to ask about Boe Declaration, which for the last few months existed as a redirect to Tuvalu at the 2023 Pacific Games. It looks like it used to be an article in mainspace for 5 days, before being converted into an article for an entirely different topic (Tuvalu at the Pacific Games); I'm not quite sure why this was done? Ideally I'd like to move the relevant history back to the Boe Declaration redirect because it's material that's now covered over by a completely different topic, although this might not be possible anymore. Utopes (talk / cont) 01:38, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Utopes,
- I had to remind myself what I did on this pages - even though was only a few months since I added the information and reference to Biketawa Declaration. I then decided that Boe Declaration deserved its own page. Some editor clear thought not. I wasn't aware it had been removed as an article.
- As to why Boe Declaration existed as a redirect to Tuvalu at the 2023 Pacific Games, that is a complete mystery to me. I created that page. But I would not have linked to with Boe Declaration.
- I will leave you to make whatever changes you think are appropriate. It there is not separate page for Boe Declaration. I can add information and references to Biketawa Declaration. Regards (MozzazzoM (talk) 10:56, 18 March 2024 (UTC))
