Question about images showing brands.
Copied from User talk:Chaswmsday#Question:
- Hi Chaswmsday. As a recent contributor to discussion on the WP:NOTADVERTISING policy, I was wondering if you could perhaps help clarify a related issue? Does including an image of a particular brand of a given country's main export constitute advertising (i.e. does it breach that policy)? I ask because an editor has suggested that adding this photo of Ethiopian Blessed Coffee brand bags by the Maryland state government as an example of Ethiopia's main export, coffee, is advertising. I believe the situation is little different from the Iran Khodro car photo that's included on the Iran article as an example of one of Iran's main exports, cars (c.f. [1]). The Manual of Style's WP:PERTINENCE sub-policy also seems to support the both commodity pics' relevance. Please advise. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 20:59, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
- As you may have noted from my discussions, I have some serious disagreements about proper content with the seemingly self-appointed "powers that be" within Wikipedia. That being said, your question is not one I've ever considered. My best hunch, at least at en.Wikipedia, is that such an image would probably be OK if it's in the public domain or similarly free (probably contatined in WikiMedia Commons), or licensed, as was the image you cited. I'm certainly no expert in this area. You may wish to enquire at Commons. Other than that, it's anyone's guess what the opinion of the "powers that be" here in en.WP might be... --Chaswmsday (talk) 17:25, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
End copy --Chaswmsday (talk) 17:30, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. That's what I had thought. Cheers, Middayexpress (talk) 17:33, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Do you mind reading WP:OVERLINK and then explaining this edit here? After you do that, a talkback template would be appropriately left on my talk page. Thank you. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:58, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hi. A subject's ethnicity or nationality is commonly linked in the first sentence of blps (c.f. WP:OPENPARA). Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 16:05, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hi. No it's not. It should be listed, but not linked. Also, "Ethnicity ... should not generally be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability." And by "emphasized" it means discussed.
- Against that see WP:OVERLINK in which nations should not be linked. Particularly egregious is when there's a city or province/state linked immediately before it.
- In short, while many articles do link the country of a subject's birth or nationality, it should not be linked. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 16:09, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- WP:OVERLINK doesn't appear to discuss nationality. WP:OPENPARA's Petrarch example is also linked accordingly. But point taken. Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 16:20, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

- Note: By removing the <div> parameters from the template above, new posts are posting correctly here. Again, this is very likely due to the formatting of this page. I'd rather not change the template that all users receive, though, because this is an uncommon problem. Northamerica1000(talk) 16:56, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- Note: Addition of the nowiki markup did not make this new post move to the top of your page. Northamerica1000(talk) 16:57, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- Looks like it was the template coding after all; seems to be all sorted out now. Cheers, Middayexpress (talk) 16:59, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

HI,
How are you doing?
My name is Abdirahim, and I live in Abaarso, Somaliland. I want to make some changes on the Somaliland Armed Force page (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Somaliland_military), which you recently have made some changes in.
I would really appreciate if you could help me with the amendments as I am new in altering articles in Wikipedia.
I would really like to hear from you soon.
Thanks!

I was busy on trying to make a page; I was just practicing. I made a page on my user page, and it somewhat looks fine. It is on here 2. You are more welcomed to make changes on it if you want to. I would like to work with you in a project--anything that you feel happy with will please me too. I want to learn more about using Wikipedia, how to find and use credible source, for instance. I go to a school on day time, but I will hopefully be online for at least an one hour a day.
I am very keen to hear from you and to work with you.
Thank you, Middayexpress
Best Regard,
Abdirahim

Thanks for uploading File:Abdullah Ahmed Irro.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Waraabe
Hi Middayexpress. Faysal Waraabe's son was arrested along with a female companion originally from Wajir in Laascaanood, Sool. The matter is still being investigated but all signs point to them being radicalized by what he calls 'unjust groups'. Faysal Waraabe gave an interview to the BBC Somali Service days after the incident occurred and said that they traveled from Burco to Laascaanood after he previously prevented his son from leaving for Yemen. There are sources and the audio, but they are in Somali.123 26oo (talk) 11:16, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Re:Overlinking
As you did on the French Montana article here. Please see WP:OVERLINK. The city of his birth is linked immediately before, and so if someone says "hey what's that country in norther Africa that's on the coast?" and somehow associate that country with this subject, they'll still be able to find it through his birth city. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:51, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hi. WP:OVERLINK, also known as WP:REPEATLINK, pertains to repetitious links. It does not apply to links that are included once ("A term should be linked, generally, at most once in an article's lead, perhaps once again in the main article body, and perhaps once at first occurrence in each infobox, table, caption, and footnote"). Morocco was not linked to at all prior to that link. Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 15:00, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- No. They are two separate things.
- An overlinked article contains an excessive number of links, making it difficult to identify links likely to aid the reader's understanding significantly.[1] In particular, unless they are particularly relevant to the topic of the article, the following are not usually linked:
- everyday words (expressions, phrases, dialect, etc.) understood by most readers in context;
- names of major geographic features and locations; languages; religions; common occupations; and nominal letters;
- An overlinked article contains an excessive number of links, making it difficult to identify links likely to aid the reader's understanding significantly.[1] In particular, unless they are particularly relevant to the topic of the article, the following are not usually linked:
- whereas repeat link is described below that:
- They are both discussed in the same section and neither should happen. Walter Görlitz (talk) 17:00, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Either way, his place of birth is relevant as he's naturalized. It was also at the time not linked at all, so overlink obviously does not apply. Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 17:16, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- No. They are two separate things.
- It clearly does apply as it's a "major ... location". If you would like to ask if it applies on the talk page of the guideline, feel free to.
- On the other hand WP:MOSBIO, or more specifically WP:OPENPARA, states
- Context (location, nationality, or ethnicity);
- In most modern-day cases this will mean the country of which the person is a citizen, national or permanent resident, or if notable mainly for past events, the country where the person was a citizen, national or permanent resident when the person became notable.
- Ethnicity or sexuality should not generally be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, previous nationalities or the country of birth should not be mentioned in the opening sentence unless they are relevant to the subject's notability.
- Context (location, nationality, or ethnicity);
- Since he's notable as a rapper and not a Moroccan, this MoS implies that his place of birth shouldn't even be mentioned. The MoS has been used to remove place of birth in many, many articles where it's not a relevant fact. As there is some question as to whether he's notable for having been born in Morocco, I have left it for now, but it wouldn't take much to convince me that it should be removed and left only for the personal life section. Walter Görlitz (talk) 17:43, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
- Major geographic locations refers to things like Earth, not to countries of origin. Openpara is also not really relevant here since the link was in the body, not the opening phrase. Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 15:01, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- No. Major geographic locations refers to places like the United States and other countries. And common terms such as Somali people. Feel free to discuss that there but I will have to take this up at ANI if you continue to ad overlinks. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:22, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Cicero Stadium, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page World Cup (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

June 2013
Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Hiriro District may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.
- List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
- Hiriro District Xiriiro District) is a district in the northeastern Bari

Montage
Hello Middayexpress, I love the montage you made for the Black Canadians page. My only concern is that only 3 of the 16 pictures are of women, but I'm also OK with the montage as is. However, if you decide to make changes in the future, a few more women would be great. Good job! Blackjays1 (talk) 16:30, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
