while we were on the subject are you aware of anything about the ORES replacement at all? The reading of meta official standard version of things seems to say it will be whatevered in the near future - however there seems to be (unless I have been reading the wrong links) little about the process of change and how it will be implemented... JarrahTree 13:16, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry I have no idea about ORES. Perhaps Qwerfjkl knows something? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:49, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
- JarrahTree, as I understand it, ORES itself won't change, it's just how you query it that will change. — Qwerfjkltalk 16:19, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
Hello, MSGJ,
Just wondering if it was okay to tag this article and its contents for CSD C1. I'm not sure what the guideline is with this reorganization on what stays and what's up for review and deletion. Thanks! And happy holidays! Liz Read! Talk! 19:31, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi. In your revert you wrote: "that caused a conflict in the ratings, please choose Start-class or C-class but not both"
But I don't understand: what conflict? what both? Thanks. Johnjbarton (talk) 18:07, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi John. If you study your change you will see that you set
|class=start
in the banner shell, but|class=C
in the physics project. Physics uses the standard assessment scale, so should not have a separte/different rating. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 18:15, 31 December 2023 (UTC)- Ok, thanks. I used Rater, it seems to handle this case poorly. If the two settings are not independent, the UI shouldn't allow separate setting :-( Johnjbarton (talk) 18:53, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry I still don't understand. I looked at the markup
{{Vital article|class=Start|level=5|topic=Science|subpage=Basics}}{{talk header}}{{physics|class=start|importance=high}}
- Are you saying that the two values set to "start" has always to be changed in tandem? Johnjbarton (talk) 18:59, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, per WP:PIQA all ratings should be the same. The best way is to move the rating to the banner shell and then remove it from the separate banners (example). Then if you want to re-assess the article you only need to change it in one place — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:04, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the fix. I'll try to remember this tip. Johnjbarton (talk) 02:32, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

- Ok I'm trying to learn this system, but I've not gotten it yet.
- On Talk:Equivalence principle I updated the WPBS to have class setting, then applied Rater. The result was duplicate lines and a red conflicty thing. I reverted the Rater change.
- Should I avoid the Rater change feature? Something else?
- The other puzzle is that the WPBS on that page and others has "1=" but it not discussed on Template:WikiProjectBannerShell. Or class= for that matter :-( Any hints? Johnjbarton (talk) 02:44, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

Fixed mistake
Hi MSGJ, thank you for correcting my mistake in assessment of the Croatia at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships article. To answer your question in the edit summary, I rated it as stub class due to it's information being 7 years out of date and there not being much content, however upon re-reading the assessment criteria (I am quite new to this), I understand that the article has the requirements for a start class article, and I should have assessed it as start class to remain consistent with the previous assessment. My mistake on Talk:Ding Hao
Really sorry for my mistake, and thanks for helping correct it! Would you suggest Start for this article? It seems quite marginal, and no sections with prose, but content seems sufficient. If yes, please help me remove the stub tag too. Sorry for my inability to judge the assessment! Timothytyy (talk) 12:39, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
- It's borderline but I think it has moved past Stub. There is more than the minimum amount of content and it seems to be well referenced, so Start looks appropriate to me. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:13, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

"Harmonize ratings"
Please STOP doing this. The whole point of the ratings system is to allow different ratings, for importance but also for quality, for different projects. Otherwise there would be no need for each project to have the space for different ratings, would there? Johnbod (talk) 17:24, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

- I created a category to track these (Category:Articles using WikiProject banner shell with empty class parameter) but it's not working yet. Basically it needs to look when the class parameter is empty and then check the rest of the page to see if class is defined in some other banner. I'll try and get that fixed soon. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:52, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- I think I have fixed this in the sandbox. To be clear, the class is not tracked as conflicting unless the PIQA class is actually defined and conflicts with one of the project ratings. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:10, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Do you think Template:WikiProject Linguistics and Template:Etymology section should be merged? There are currently 8 pages that have both templates.
On a related note, it's strange that Template:Etymology section isn't placed in Category:WikiProject banners with non-standard names or that those pages aren't in Category:Pages using WikiProject banner shell with duplicate banner templates. Gonnym (talk) 08:17, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

Tracking categories for articles that require performing WP:PIQA
Is it possible for us to create categories to track articles that need to perform WP:PIQA containing the following types?
- Called Module:WikiProject banner but does not contain {{WPBS}}.
- Contains {{WPBS}} but sets the same class as {{WPBS}}.
- Other types?

How should my bot handle this? See e.g. Special:Diff/1195670166 for how it handles it currently. For now I've modified the code so that it won't modify blp/living if blpo is present, to avoid conflicts. — Qwerfjkltalk 20:56, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

Template:Script doc auto
Hi, I'm thinking of adding some features to to {{Script doc auto}}, eg. showing a note above gadget js pages to indicate which gadget the page belongs to, how many users the gadget has, etc. However, this is full-protected and is also listed on Wikipedia:Cascade-protected items. Wondering if you can lower the protection to TPE? It is used on the interface (MediaWiki:Clearyourcache), but only on top of script pages, so not sure if it counts as widely seen. – SD0001 (talk) 14:34, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Assistance with a new wikiproject
With all your expertise, Martin, you might be able help out with the new Wikipedia:WikiProject Electronic literature. Those who have created the project do not have very much experience with Wikipedia but would like to provide a sound basis for future expansion. As you can see from the project's talk page, there are two items which require attention:
- The automatically created Category:Unknown-importance Electronic literature articles and Category:NA-importance Electronic literature articles need to be populated.
- It would be useful to introduce automatic stats on article quality assessment (i.e. without importance) along the lines of WP Women or WP Norway.
Maybe creating facilities for quality assessment will resolve the category problems and also article alerts. I could try to work on this myself but would like to avoid any unintentional side effects. As up now there are only about 200 articles in the project, it should be easy to cover their quality assessment, in particular by including Class ratings in the banner shell environment. It would really be appreciated if you could help us out with these developments. But just let me know if you are tied up with other priorities.--Ipigott (talk) 10:29, 1 February 2024 (UTC)

Module:Pagetype
FYI, after your changes to Module:Pagetype, we are now getting transclusions of missing sandbox and testcases pages like this one when someone makes an edit request. Probably not a huge deal since these requests should not be permanent, but I thought I would let you know. I fixed a larger problem here by simply flipping the logic of the "ifexist" and "is redirect" checks. Some other ones that just popped up that may be related are here and here which I think are caused by the banners on the archive pages. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:32, 1 February 2024 (UTC)

- Does an exists check also cause a transclusion to be recorded? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:39, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
- no, at least when I tested it this version and tested here. Frietjes (talk) 16:46, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, should be an easy fix then — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:47, 1 February 2024 (UTC)

Women articles with WPBS quality conflicts
I believe that some time ago, Martin, you asked me to help with women articles presenting conflicts. Can you help?--Ipigott (talk) 09:48, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
- At the moment, there is no way of breaking these down into different projects. (I don't think I recall what I asked you.) But that sounds like a good idea, for those projects that wish to help out. I will explore further and update with any progress. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:10, 5 February 2024 (UTC)

I am a trustee of the Wilsons Tale Project, and whilst Wilson has a page, as have some other editors, there is no page dealing with the actual publication. A couple of questions is my draft suitable for publishing? The Project has more information about editions, printers, content and so forth. Much is not available online, for we have become 'the source' for these things by dint of the research. I take it that it will be acceptable to quote the WTP site and material as a reference.
Any help, comments, critique and such would be good. I/we will move on to the existing page about Wilson once the editing shoes have been made to fit. A few clips from his autobiography could shed much light on the man. --DerekMuttley (talk) 21:13, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Derek. Not yet ready for publishing. The main thing missing is to give references which show it has received significant coverage from multiple third-party reliable sources. Please see WP:GNG for more details. Also, a bit more structure to the article (e.g. sections, infobox) would improve it. Good luck — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:48, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
Women in Red
Hi there, Martin, and welcome to Women in Red. After all the time you've spent trying to improve our meetup records, displays, etc., in the BS environment it's certainly about time you became a member. You might also like to add your name to our Technical support page, describing which areas you can help with. It would also be useful if you could add the WIR user box to your MSGJ/User page which will ensure you are listed under Category:WikiProject Women in Red participants. We look forward to your continuing participation, including discussions on our talk pages. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 10:17, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

You might have other ideas on how the page could be improved.--Ipigott (talk) 10:59, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
Question from Dancbmac (08:03, 24 February 2024)
Hello Martin, I am a newby and was wanting to add my name with 2 citations supporting my information on the “List of recipients of the Legion of Merit” Wiki page. One citation is the National Archives Database and the other is “military times Hall of Valor” I haven’t attempted editing yet as I saw on my page to contact my mentor first. Thanks, Dan McKinnon --Dancbmac (talk) 08:03, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Dan. A couple of points:
- You will notice from that page, that every person who has an entry (apart from a couple of instances which probably shouldn't be there) already has an article on Wikipedia. When we say "The following are notable recipients within the award" the word "notable" means that they have been shown to meet the general notability guideline, which the vast majority of people in the world do not.
- In general we ask people not to make edits when they have a conflict of interest. Instead you can make a request on the article's talk page, using the template {{Edit COI}}
- Let me know if you have questions — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:03, 24 February 2024 (UTC)

Translated template inside or outside banner shell?
In reviewing the talk page of Signe Barth, I've just noticed you moved the translated template outside the banner shell. I have consistently completed it inside the shell as it then displays "large" and can be seen more easily than the little box tucked away on the lower right. I've now added "small=n" which actually produces unnecessary additional text but displays correctly for me, even when it is outside the shell. If there are strict rules about this in regard to the banner shell, it would be useful to know where to find them. I would actually prefer to be allowed to include the simple translated template inside the shell. In fact it seems to be an additional extra provided the edit comment on the article's creation refers to the "translation" but I find it useful and recommend it to others. See Help:Translation.--Ipigott (talk) 13:30, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
- My understand is that {{WikiProject banner shell}} is only for WikiProject banners. Other banners can be put inside {{banner holder}} but this is only generally used when there are an extreme number of banners. In this case, it is better outside of any shellk I think. I agree that the
|small=no
version looks better though. I may suggest that becomes the default — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:08, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
- There must already be some mechanism which produces the large text version if the template is inside the banner shell. It is particularly useful when the template has been placed at the top of the page rather than below the wikiproject templates. As it works fine, why can't it simply be permitted? You always seem interested in saving space on talk pages. The best solution would therefore be to facilitate the large text without the unnecessary "Consult the history of the original page to see a list of its authors."--Ipigott (talk) 12:24, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
Wear bridges
Thanks, Martin, for your wonderful expansion of List of crossings of the River Wear. Quite an achievement. Many of the photographs bring back fond memories of my early years in that part of the world. I see there's scope for List of crossings of the River Tyne which is sadly still missing. All I've done myself along these lines is List of castles in Luxembourg - which could probably benefit from a degree of updating. I see nevertheless that it gets almost 30 page views a day---Ipigott (talk) 15:24, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your kind words. We do have a list of crossings at River Tyne#River_crossings but it is lacking detail and photographs, so perhaps I will create List of crossings of the River Tyne one day. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:38, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, I noticed the summary coverage in the River Tyne article but it's no comparison to your Wear listings. I really hope you can soon find time to start on the Tyne. As we now have detailed lists on both the Wear and the Tees, it would be a pity if we could not provide a similar list for the Tyne. Maybe Cakelot1 could also help.--Ipigott (talk) 13:41, 5 March 2024 (UTC)

Question from PhilippTeslyuk (02:19, 7 April 2024)
how to create a article --PhilippTeslyuk (talk) 02:19, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
Women in Red Events page
I realize, MSGJ, that the long list of previous events on the WIR Events page is intended to facilitate searching. But as this page is transcluded on the main WIR page, it makes it difficult to see the sections which follow. I suggest you introduce a show/hide option, defaulting to hide. (It might also be useful to introduce a columns display to save horizontal space.) I would have edited the page myself but am not sufficiently familiar with the approach you have developed. If there is an easy way to undertake edits along these lines, it would be good to know how they can be made. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 08:32, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- I didn't realise that was transcluded on the main project page. I totally agree it is too much to include the whole list there. How about we just list the current, recent and upcoming events there, and leave the whole list at /Events. Please check my recent changes? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:44, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hall also changed it to use a level 3 header instead of level 2, so it fits better on the page now — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:20, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the improvement on the main WiR page. We can now see the other items much more easily. I've looked at the changes you made on Module:Women in Red event/sandbox but would never have been able to make them myself. I really think it's important for us to be able to make changes ourselves. One of these days you might no longer be available and then we would have to find some other expert to take over. As part experience shows, it's not always easy to do so. As for the display on the Events page, I still think it would be useful to use columns as we do on many WIR pages which include long lists. I also think that for completed years, it would be preferable to run from January to December rather than from December to January. It might also be useful to display the events for the past full year (now 2023) but offer a show/hide option for the remainder. That kind of display may be more in line with what other WIR participants would like to see.--Ipigott (talk) 08:59, 6 April 2024 (UTC)
- The sandbox is just where I play around. The live code is at Module:Women in Red event.
- I kind of see where you're coming from, but that would be a reason not to do anything technical, which would be a big loss for the project. While I am planning to stop developing the code further shortly, I will be around indefinitely to maintain it.
- Yes columns might work well. I'll have a play around with that.
- Not sure about Jan-Dec if we are sorting reverse chronological. Then you would have Dec 2023 next to Jan 2022, which is not logical as they differ by nearly two years?
- Do you mean a show/hide for each year (like we had on the navigation template for a short time)? I can have a look into that. Or if you mean a general show/hide for all the other years, I can't really see the benefit on the /Events page because people can just scroll down as far as they wish.

- Thanks, MSGJ, for these comments and explanations. I don't think we are in danger of never doing anything technical. Just look at all those Wikidata-based redlink pages which have proved so popular. I was in fact one of the first to develop them but gave up when more technically competent experts came along. If necessary, I could certainly still create/edit them. The logic is not too difficult to follow. As for your being around "indefinitely", we initially had the same impression with our Project X experts Harej and Isarra but they gradually lost interest and become involved in more exciting innovations. We ran into all kinds of difficulties, perhaps the most important being our inability to maintain our membership lists. As a result we implemented a new, fully accessible approach which seems to be working quite well. As for the show/hide options, they have proved useful in our old navigation template. Now that the Events page is apparently no longer transcluded, it might be interesting to add new sections covering most successful meeetups, contests, events repeated year by year, etc. If so, it would be useful to have a general show/hide option for everything except the past year. (But are we in fact still able to add new sections to the Events page without your help?) So you now have my stand on these matters. Rosiestep might also like to comment on them.--Ipigott (talk) 10:00, 8 April 2024 (UTC)

Possible WikiProject banner optimization
Hey, I was looking at Template:WikiProject Television and was wondering if the module can be updated to handle the code with less boilerplate code being written. So for example, a standard task force there is written like this:
|TF_3_LINK = Wikipedia:WikiProject Television/The Amazing Race task force
|TF_3_NAME = the Amazing Race task force
|TF_3_NESTED = The Amazing Race
I wonder if we can do something like this
|TF_style = task force
|TF_1 = The Amazing Race
|TF_2 = The Apprentice UK
and the LINK and NAME will be handled by the module automatically as it knows the style "task force" and it knows the NESTED name. If a specific task force needs to have a different value, then they can override TF_style with the same current style. This could also potentially work with ASSESSMENT_CAT and MAIN_CAT values.
Another item that can have the same treatment is the image size. Most of the images in this template use "x20px", so instead of repeatedly adding this value, we can use TF_SIZE = x20px and for any image that needs to override it they can specify a different value.
What do you think? Gonnym (talk) 07:14, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, good idea. We already have
|TF_SIZE=
(which is documented) and|TF_TEXT=
(which is not yet documented!) which is possibly along the same lines you were thinking and recognises _NAME_, _LINK_ and _IMPORTANCE_. For example, you can define|TF_TEXT=This _PAGETYPE_ is supported by the [[_LINK_|_NAME_]] task force and assessed as _IMPORTANCE_-importance
. Let's discuss further at the module talk page? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:02, 23 April 2024 (UTC)- Oh nice. I'll check those out and sure. Gonnym (talk) 08:21, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

- Please feel free to revert any of my changes, they are only suggestions. Auto doc
Curious as to how come template documentation is going to auto doc, which can only be edited by admins and TEs? Now there are two open edit requests to edit the documentation. - The only way to achieve autodoc is by using a module, so I don't know what the alternative is? Of course it is possible to not use the autodoc, and create documentation in the usual way. the advantage of creating it automatically is that is doesn't need to be maintained and will update when features are added/removed. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:40, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

- Forgive me Martin because I still haven't wrapped myself around this. The
|DOC=auto
parameter and argument makes it so that the documentation cannot be edited by any user and must be edited by TEs and admins. That seems to go counter to one of the main reasons for having a separate /doc page, doesn't it? I think it makes sense for these project banner templates to be protected, but what exactly is achieved by taking the ability to edit documentation away from all users? - In addition, I looked at the Module:WikiProject banner/templatepage, where the requested edit at Template talk:WikiProject Hinduism#Template-protected edit request on 15 March 2024 seems to require that module to be edited. I found where the section is – line 574, which starts the "Full usage" section, to line 597, which starts "Parameters" section – somewhere in the code between those lines appears to be where we can remove the redundant
|importance=
parameters (there are a total of five redundant (six total) instances of that parameter in the Full usage section of the {{WikiProject Hinduism}} project banner's documentation). My grasp of Lua is very basic and I don't have a clue how to do it. That takes us back to why on Earth would we make it so that all users cannot edit the documentation? and then leave it to only editors who have a good grasp of Lua? P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 02:17, 21 March 2024 (UTC)- I think the auto doc function is useful for project banners where no one has bothered to write any custom documentation. It can still be customised by removing
|DOC=auto
and writing your own instructions, if anyone wishes to. As explained above, it is not restricted to admins or TEs at all - the module is only semi-protected. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:49, 17 April 2024 (UTC) - Regarding the issue of the duplicated importance parameters. This is because the hinduism template uses the same
|importance=
parameter for 6 different purposes (general importance and five separate task force importances) so the module is getting confused. I should be able to sort that by checking that each parameter has not already been displayed. Leave it with me. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:52, 17 April 2024 (UTC)- @Paine Ellsworth I think I've fixed this now, please let me know if you have any other suggestions for improvement — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:28, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

I still hope it says something to you about how difficult it would be for other editors who, unlike you, are not well-versed in Lua and who wouldn't dream of tackling such a problem no matter how much nor how little protection the module has. Sorry Martin, so sorry, but I still think that it should at least be made easier for editors, not more difficult, to get to where an edit needs to be made, and that should come with explicit instructions in each and every instance of auto-documentation. Question from BeacHal1 (09:35, 25 April 2024)
I’ve just had a note about vandalising wiki!!! How exactly have I vandalised anything? I would say the ‘editors’ that objected to the factual info I put up yesterday didn’t in fact edit they just removed my edit completely - which seems more like vandalism to me. I was accused of being paid which I wasn’t. This gallery is a non commercial space that needs help and doesn’t have big marketing teams behind it as most galleries do. I am amazed wiki allows for those publicity rife spaces which do have paid marketing teams etc etc and is going after someone trying to do good instead… It’s a bit depressing, frankly, as I was trying to flesh out the wiki site with people and places that are much more ethical environments --BeacHal1 (talk) 09:35, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

is there an ur document, source of where and how the whole banner shell thing came about? As a long term talk page tagger I find it hard to explain to people why and how the enthusiasm rose. I have been a rater user since it started (I think) and along with a few other issues with talk pages and the very weird array of projects that wikipedia has to offer, I think I might have missed the point where this industry came from. Any clues or links would be appreciated, thanks. JarrahTree 04:34, 27 April 2024 (UTC)

- Intriguing, such coy and quiet beginnings to a wikipedia wide change, the humility is very hard to believe, and not a single extended talk page project tagging editor in sight in the whole discussion. Thanks for the link, there is insufficient broader explanation as to what is/has been going on, and I think for that, you folks (the industry) are your own detriment. There should have been a write up somewhere, as it affects the whole project. In view of the usual wikipedia wide things that get signpost or wider explanations, I think the a decided lack of publicity across the project is a major fault, regardless of the otherwise positive net benefit. Could use some help debugging, the WPBS isn't translating the NA-class through to the various projects, and I'm losing my damn mind over it. I can set the class to Start, C, etc, but "Redirect" and "NA" don't seem to do anything. Primefac (talk) 18:07, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
- That is the intentional behaviour :) All NA-classes should be detected automatically. I'll take a look ... — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 06:42, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- As soon as a redirect is proposed for deletion is stops being a redirect, and so is not automatically detected by the template. I have posted at Module talk:Pagetype to see if we can fix that — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:57, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- Cool, thanks for that. I still think setting
|class=NA
(or redir) should actually do what it says... I wouldn't be surprised if there are pages that a project didn't want to classify. Primefac (talk) 12:10, 3 May 2024 (UTC)- Redirects under discussion should now be detected as redirects — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:54, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- That's great (legitimately, thanks for following up with that), but it still doesn't change the fact that if a page should (for whatever reason) manually be marked as NA, it cannot be. Primefac (talk) 10:01, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- There was a lot of discussion about this when we started implementing PIQA. See Template talk:WikiProject banner shell/Archive 10#Ignore class on non-article pages? for some background. This was mainly about ignoring
|class=redirect
on pages which were not redirects, but it had the consequence that all non-article classes defined in|class=

- Hi there. The reasons for non-acceptance can be seen on the page: This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of music-related topics). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.

A member of less than a week (although his very first post was challenging the status of sources as reliable, making me suspect he has been active under a different identity), entirely unaccepting of the principle of consensus, determined to see a level of coverage of one political party that is disproportionate to that given by mainstream news sources. Highly disruptive, unwilling to accept that his preference is not grounds to change the approach taken by the article. One user told me the WikiProject was deleted due to low number of participants and because it was abandoned but I when I recreated it, I put my everything into it and gathered enough experienced editors to help. Looking WP:WikiProject Sia and WP:SZA, I fail to understand how The Weeknd failed and they are still afloat. This is really not fair sir. — dxneo (talk) 20:54, 24 June 2024 (UTC)

WikiProject merges
This is getting really frustrating. Here you told me it was "fine" to go ahead with these so long as the duplicates will be removed (they will). Now you have decided there's something wrong with the process? So what is the correct process, and why is it different from the clear, long-standing instructions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide/Task forces#Converting existing projects to task forces (Redirect the moved project's banner to the parent project's banner
)? – Joe (talk) 07:25, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

Not sure where to post, because we have four different threads now. Will be monitoring and comment where I can add something — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:43, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

Question about Vehicular Automation
Hi @MSGJ, I saw that you recently edited the Vehicular automation page. I wanted to ask if you could review the 'Autonomy levels' section that talks about the classification of autonomous driving levels, information that is pulled from the Self-driving car page.
There is new classification approach that has been added to the Self-driving car page, that's presented by Mobileye. It offers an alternative to the SAE levels of autonomy by providing new terminology of hands-on/off, eyes-on/off and driver/no-driver.
Would it be possible for you to present both these classification systems on the Vehicular Automation page too?

Your revert
You reverted my edit here [1] with the reason “please stop using the faulty script” I am a WP:AFC reviewer I have no control over what scripts do when I accept a draft. Theroadislong (talk) 15:32, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Theroadislong the responsibility for edits made using an automated tool or script lie with the user making them. In this case the script is making faulty edits, so you either need to manually review and correct every edit that it makes, or you should stop using the tool. But I have heard that a fix is in the pipeline, so hopefully this will be resolved soon — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:43, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- You need to stop now and undo all your reverts of this nature! There is a bot that cleans this up and it can't do its job if you revert. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation#Assigning_WikiProjects_to_Articles. ~Kvng (talk) 14:16, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- Please take responsibility for your edits, otherwise I will continue to revert — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:08, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- Really? I'm not quick to go to ANI with stuff like this but several editors have already identified this as disruptive. ~Kvng (talk) 15:14, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- I think reverting to an incorrect format, which you have already been advised is incorrect, would be seen as disruptive, no? You are welcome to include the banner in the correct place, and I will not touch it — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:17, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- Well yes, I don't want to be disruptive. That's why I've dropped out of this edit war. The bot is working now and the problems will be fixed if you undo your reverts. I could go an fix the talk page where we're warring but I'm not sure where else this situation exists. If you do not undo your reverts, potentially important information added by AFC reviewers will be lost. ~Kvng (talk) 15:30, 23 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from Clovermoss
How did you do this? I'm trying to understand other projects better and I assume this means you connected it with a wikidata item, but the actual process confuses me a bit. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 21:14, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Clovermoss. Unfortunately it is not possible to connect a draft article to a Wikidata item (although I have argued several times that this would be useful). So instead you can add the
|qid=Q113793155
parameter to associate it with item. Once it has been moved to mainspace and a connected properly to the Wikidata item, this parameter is ignored — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 07:04, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

Template:Authority control issue
Hello. One of your changes to Template:Authority control (well, one of the Module pages related to this) has introduced a syntax error. On Template:Authority control, it's claiming it's a stripped li tag, but on the 750+ pages using this template, they are crying about a missing span and a stripped span tag error each. Would you have a second look at your changes related to this? Thanks. Zinnober9 (talk) 02:49, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- I will certainly look into this — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:54, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- I think I have fixed Template:Authority control. Can you give me an example of a page with a missing span tag? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:44, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, thank you. I can confirm the template is clean from the li error now. No other "claimed" syntax errors on the Template:Authority control page. I've purged the template page, and purged a few of the articles, but that hasn't cleared any of the span issues yet, so guessing it's an issue within a conditional statement and that state isn't present on the template page. This list, and this list have some pages to chose from that are reporting the missing/stripped span errors from the use of this template (universities, libraries, museums, and hospitals seem to be common themes). Zinnober9 (talk) 20:28, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

Questions from SanctuaryOnSchoolAve on Stand by Me (film) (17:23, 15 September 2024)
- Please review two citation references for proper Wikipedia house style that document recommended update to Legacy section of Stand By Me (film) entry.
- How does one insert a bracketed superscript reference number and link/tie it to the proper source? Also, do prior successive reference numbers automatically get re-numbered?
--SanctuaryOnSchoolAve (talk) 17:35, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- The refernces look to be are formatted well. We wouldn't generally include facebook as a source because it is not regarded as reliable, so that one should probably be removed. Yes successive references will be renumbered (but it is possible to re-use the same source, in which case it could have the same number as a previous one). Question from Chris M Horwitz (16:47, 22 September 2024)
Hello. I have made two edits recentlly, the more important of which was in Maxwell's Equations where there is a significantly wrong original entry which has been leading people astray for a long time. My correction was however removed without any communication with me. I would think Wikipedia would be using competent members to consider proposed edits but in this case I consider this to be an egregious lack of knowledge of the topic; someone expert in the field should re-consider my edit. At the very least I would expect the editor would communicate with me. For the second edit, on the history of William Shockley, I have had a helpful discussion with the editor who removed my edit - and that is fine, I will work on it and re-submit after I have downloaded the appropriate reference to your Commons. --Chris M Horwitz (talk) 16:47, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- So if your edit is reverted, the next step is usually to open a discussion on the talk page, in this case Talk:Maxwell's equations. There you can present your point of view or ask the other editor to explain why they reverted. I will open a discussion there for you now — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:24, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Chris M Horwitz there is a response on the article's talk page. Please view and reply there — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 06:03, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- I withdraw my proposed edit; after looking over the correct cross-product terms it's apparent that the moving diagram and its attendant field equations are correct as shown. My apologies for trying to spread disinformation! Chris M Horwitz (talk) 14:47, 23 September 2024 (UTC)

I think I found a bug in the Rater tool. It sets the living to no for some reason. Alaney2k (talk) 02:11, 28 October 2024 (UTC)

OK - I see the BLP yes has been put in and when the template is edited, it ignores that and enters the living=no by default, I would in certain circumstances, say that the template/rater doesnt recognise it...(rather than the editor applying it) however, shoot the piano I say..JarrahTree 09:41, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- FYI - Have looked at one of the 12 articles that exists with the issue - and what has had is Tom.Reding has AWB'ed the blp=yes into the template header - and this does extactly the same if living=yes for the template - it creates the BLP banner above the template box. I hadnt checked at the edit history to look at previous edits to see the AWB of blp=yes when editing them, and in fact I will now simply remove the living=no are they are redundant and the result of some default mechanism in rater or the template that I have no understanding of how to suggest to you or other template fidlerers to do something about (ie when blp is entered, living is disallowed, or vice versa).. Thanks for reading this, and trust it makes sense to you. In this case, the piano, the player and the tune require prejudicial adjustment in whatever the best form is considered reasonable.
