Your VandalProof Application

Dear Lucasbfr,

Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that at this time you do not meet the minimum requirement of 250 edits to mainspace articles (see under main here). Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof.

Re:Rv Spanish profanity

Hi there. I removed the example because it is not representative. It's a made up phrase without any real meaning. It is true that the word is used for agumentatives, it is not used in that way. Already "superlative dominance" gives you a hint of the nonsense. What's more Pito has almost always a negatie connotation such as shitty for objects. I will try to give a much common (and better) example. Mariano(t/c) 07:53, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

No problemo. Again, its not grammatically incorrect, just a made up phrase. The positive side is that I took a second look to the section and decided to arrange it a bit. :o) Good wiking, Mariano(t/c) 08:05, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

On "Coonass" Etymology

Dear Lucasbfr,

I saw that you deleted the previous translation of "connasse" from the entry for the ethnic slur "coonass". I wanted to let you know that I've reinstated the previous translation, but I altered the preceding passage to state that this is the translation that Domengeaux gave to the term. I.e., he may not have been entirely correct in his translation, but it's the translation to which he adhered, and which others in Louisiana have since adhered. Perhaps, however, you could add a more correct translation parenthetically in the "coonass" entry (while retaining Domengeaux's translation)?

Thanks,

--Skb8721 15:21, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

If this really is a duplicate, it can just be redirected to Dark Side of the Rainbow. This will serve to prevent recreation of the duplicate in the future. If it's not entirely duplicated, feel free to merge whatever good and unique information you identify, first and then redirect the page. BigNate37(T) 08:38, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi, it is indeed a (poor) duplicate. I asked for deletion because I don't feel the name of the page is really relevant (and no other pages link here). I'm quite new around here, so what do you think? Is a redirect better? Lucasbfr 08:45, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
correction: there is one page that links here but the change occured 1 hour ago. Lucasbfr 08:47, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Well, according to WP:RFD, When should we delete a redirect?,
However, avoid deleting such redirects if.... They would aid accidental linking and make the creation of duplicate articles less likely, whether by redirecting a plural to a singular, by redirecting a frequent misspelling to a correct spelling, by redirecting a misnomer to a correct term, by redirecting to a synonym, etc...
So I see two advantages to redirecting: it is faster than proposed deletion (and with prods on recently created articles, often times the creator removes it), and it ensures this specific article won't get created again. In the end how you address it is up to you; I'm simply offering a suggestion of what I would do. BigNate37(T) 08:53, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

And it's gone. I shall not miss it.--Anthony.bradbury 23:26, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

But please, take care. I note that, although your history as a registered editor is short, you have been a Wiki user for a long time. Good. But if you are going to revert edits, it is important to be right in doing so. I am easy-going, but some long-serving wikipedians might get annoyed if you take too cavalier an approach. Friendly caution.--Anthony.bradbury 23:35, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

I reverted it. It was junk; on its own as a new article it might have been speedy deleted. It was created by a brand new user. Be bold. I have taken the liberty of removing the entry from the policy RfCs as the issue is resolved and it is not a policy RfC. —Centrxtalk • 03:32, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I reverted the entry too. When I read again, I saw this was not the right place for it at all in fact. I admit I was a bit lost. Is there a place when we can ask someone's opinion about that kind of disputes? -- lucasbfr talk 03:34, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

The talk page of the article or redirect is always the first stop. Note that drive-by junk like usually just gets forgotten by the new user who added it so it can be reverted easily. —Centrxtalk • 03:36, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

What is a "Gat" and what does the derivition come from?

If you can answer these and you still move to delete - Ill respect your request. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Footballbat (talkcontribs) .

Hi, first of all, thanks for taking the time to actually ask instead of directly removing the tag. The problem is not that this term exists or not in slang (I really don't know slang at all, we don't learn that at school in my country ;)). The problem is that there is an official policy here called Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a dictionary which says that Wikipedia is not a hacker/computer usage or other slang and idiom guide. We aren't teaching people how to talk like a hacker or a Cockney chimney-sweep; we're writing an encyclopedia. So this article can't stay on Wikipedia. However, there is a Wiktionary project that would suit more in my opinion. Regards, -- lucasbfr talk 04:27, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
PS: do you know slang site?
I see the page was deleted unter G4, which means that this article was deleted previously. You shouldn't try to recreate deleted article :) For the discussion about the deletion, please see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Footballbat -- lucasbfr talk 04:33, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. I am new here and now its becoming clearer what you guys are excepting.
I am a little disapointed though that a band like Shiny Toy Guns can post and advertise their band here - even with direct links to the site that sells their music, but one cant even post an urban phrase until its seen on a movie - which makes the phrase non-urban at that point
Example would be shizzle - it is listed on your site, and it is urban slang - but for some reason because Snoop dogg quotes it - it now becomes official
I will check out the other site - but disagree with this word being pulled
By the way, mark my words - this phrase will become public mainstream within 2 years, and you will remember that I was the one who tried to post it here first
Word —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Footballbat (talkcontribs) .
Sorry for the harsh welcome ;) I added some basic links at the top of your page in case you wanted to learn more about our rules. Again, the Wiktionary project might be worth a look. -- lucasbfr talk 04:39, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Delete Inter-A as cure for vandalism?

Hi Lucasbfr. You and I have both fixed vandalism on this page. Almost every edit since the thing's creation has been vandalism, though from different 'contributors', and it still awaits sources. I got one anon who was trashing it blocked through AIV. The creator of the page has not come back for any further work (I left him a Talk message). Could it be time for WP:PROD, or even speedy deletion for lack of assertion of notability? It doesn't seem valuable enough for page protection. EdJohnston 04:35, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Spasticity

Can I first say that perhaps it is a little pathetic that I have to write this to you, but it is in no way more pathetic than your ridiculous attempt at censorship. To be forthright, you seem like a wanker. I use the obvious 'mistakes' you 'corrected' as my justification. Seeing as you do not attend the school, know the people in the schools, or have any connection that I deem worthy, it seems to me almost immature and condescending that you have reverted my changes. The changes I made (sauf Ricky Bobby) were in fact correct, and if you had taken some time to research into the school you would have discovered that Emmo is not a vice captain. Adiran Pauley has written a book, with Kevin Ryan. So, next time you deem it consequential to change what is actually the truth, die in a fire instead. For your information, the whole school refers to Aaron Tutt as 'The Godfather', and to Daniel Cooney as 'Rock God'. So stop pretending to have your finger on the pulse, and just get a life.

It also might help if I told you that you are in no way funny, attractive or entertaining.

Hello

I am unsure if I am the person you are saying is guilty of vandalism. I have recently added names to the Reporting Scotland page? I was only trying to put the details in some alphabetical order and display the bureaus and portfolios journalists have north of the border. It was merely a tidy up and I did not insult, swear or make a fool of anyone in the process? If my work is such an offence to Wikipedia users, then please just put it back to what it was a few days ago. I really hope that this was not interpreted as vandalism - that was the last thing I would ever want someone to think! Perhaps I should rethink my involvement with Wikipedia, as I am here to enhance and NOT to destroy this great reference tool. Thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.158.14.24 (talkcontribs) .

Hi, unfortunately I can't really answer you since it seems you changed your IP since I sent you the message. Could you be more specific and give me the time I gave you the warning (or a copy of the warning)? We could check the logs and try to dig up what went wrong. I might have done a mistake. Anyway, it is possible that the message was not intended to you since we track unregistred users by IP. Perhaps you should consider taking an account here? -- lucasbfr talk 22:48, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
I made the changes yesterday evening. I included Morag Kinaburgh, Nina Macleod and Andrew Anderson onto the correspondents list. I can see that there is reference to BBC Scotland in the Anne Mackenzie edit histrory. What was the act of vandalism anyway? I will consider creating a username etc when I see what I am getting myself into. As I say, I am not wanting to join something that I get accused of vandalism for. This is a chill out not a wrist slapping exercise for me.
Thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.158.14.24 (talkcontribs) .
Ok I remember the edit in question: was it this one? When I saw it on the recent changes, you seemed to have removed a merge tag without any explanation, and reverting an edit with "(revert - please do not remove merge tags)" as summary. Since you were an IP I assumed it was some kind of vandalism. Please accept my apologies (but keep in mind that removing a tag on a page without any proper discussion is frowned upon) -- lucasbfr talk 23:13, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

It's such a pity that Children like you are allowed on this site. It could have been good and yet you feel this need to destroy it. Americans are not always right - admittedly history is recorded by the victor - but what do you win? Universal hatred is not a victory, smartarse's often disagree.

Hello again

For some reason, your talk page seems to be littered with unconstructive comments and adverts mostly by IPs. You do know that you can remove these? Also, I'm curious as to why you're a target for such vandalism? Do you edit a controversial area of Wikipedia? I'm just curious. DoomsDay349 02:26, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Yeah I know, I prefer keeping all of them as long as it's not page blanking, that makes me feel important :D
Lol. That's understandable. I do a bit of RC patrolling myself, and I even had my userpage vandalized once. I never did have my talk page vandalized though. You're free to do whatever you want, of course. Just thought I'd leave a friendly tip :). Bye! DoomsDay349 20:14, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Use of helpmes to request unblocking

Just thought you might like to know about {{helpme-unblock}}. :) A few of us on IRC figured it was time to make one, a few weeks back; I don't think it's quite perfect, yet, so feel free to tinker with it if you like. Luna Santin 23:07, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for the info! The template is nice. I used a variation of it, because it seems weird when the user has requested to be unblocked already. What do you think about a second version for that case? I copy paste it there if you want to do something, I don't add it on WP because I can't find a name that would suit it -- lucasbfr talk 00:08, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Hello, you used the {{helpme}} tag to request unblocking, but that tag is generally more appropriate for questions regarding how to use, browse, or edit Wikipedia. Don't worry, the {{unblock}} template is enough to get your block reviewed. Administrators will be able to find your page and review the circumstances of your block, even if it has been reviewed already. You can also discuss the situation with the blocking administrator over email, or find other administrators to email here. You can also join a Wikipedia IRC channel or use the unblock-en-l mailing list to request unblocking. Please bear in mind that most of the users responding to helpme requests are not administrators. Thank you, and good luck.

Ahh, good point. If all else fails, "helpme-unblock2" can't be too horrible a name. Can always move it if anybody thinks of something better. Luna Santin 00:11, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Yeah that was the name I thought about but it seemed confusing, regarding the test templates numbering. I'll be bold and do it then :) Regarding the talk page, I've always been lost. I really never know on which userpage are the conversations supposed to take place -- lucasbfr talk 00:34, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism on Honey

Perhaps you were mistaking me for some other users (maybe the previous user edited before me, 69.142.210.140), but I did not add any additional informations to the article honey at all, just some minor edits (abbreivated China's name). Removing warnings

Hey Lucas. I think the issue is still being discussed here, if you're interested in participating. You asked how a proposal might become policy; there is a brief outline of how policy on Wiki is made at WP:POLICY, but basically, unless Jimbo or the board steps in and creates policy by fiat, so to speak, there needs to be a strong community consensus for a proposal. A strong consensus would also be needed for it to become a guideline. Thanks for your message. Cheers, Sarah Ewart (Talk) 18:23, 30 October 2006 (UTC) P.S. Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Lucasbfr, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact our administrator general Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Wiki Administrator abuses

Hello Lucasbfr,

TheronJ has repeatedly been vandalizing the Clint Curtis page, including the deletion of well cited sentences, paragraphs, the insertion of obvious bias (including the summary of a Wired news article that was completly skewed to slander Curtis's biography). Today he deleted quotes and citations from the Orlando Sentinel.

If you do an intestigation, he is a political activist that vandalizes negativly the profiles of Democrats by deleting information that can be considered positive and adds negative content and does exactly the opposite to Republican profiles. TheronJ insists that this is "balance." If you look on the Curtis page, you will see that Tom Feeney's response to Curtis's allegations has been twice as long as the section that describes the allegations. Under a campaign issues section, he adds Feeney's response to Curtis. It is wrong because the issues do not mention Feeney at all. Not only do these NOT reflect balance, it is a serious violation of Wikipedia's standards that requires action.

TheronJ is abusing his power as a Wiki manager and has had repeated warnings in the discussion page of Clint Curtis and now his user talk page. These flagerant abuses deligitimize Wikipedia and places it in a difficult position of dealing with slander against a living person.

In his last edit, he completly vandalized the "links" section.

Please take whatever action you can to take see that these abuses no longer continue.

Thank you. Rememberkigali 22:52, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Re: Bamf

Discussion of the website Badassmofo.com is a perfectly valid entry for an article discussing the acronym BAMF. Encyclopedic information is useless if it is not complete, and limiting the Bamf article to its relevence in the marvel comic books is insufficient. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.25.213.61 (talkcontribs) .

You have accused me of editing an article, but I have no knowledge of editing any articles at all. I don't edit Wikipedia, I simply come here for information. Editing Article

Wikipedia pretends to be a valuable resource, but the entries are often quite limited and sketchy, usually linking to other similarly limited and sketchy entries elsewhere in Wikipedia and thus creating a large cross-reference with basic content.

It discriminates against external sites that have more/better information on a topic on the basis that they might have opinions or be commercially based. I would say that rather than spend their time excluding people from Wikipedia and enforcing numerous elitist rules, the editors should be looking sympathetically at external sites that might add value to the Wikipedia knowledge base and to Wikipedia users.

It's also elitist in that it says it is looking for content from scientists and doctors and so on. There are lot of very knowledgeable and articulate people who aren't either of the above.—

All I asked for was for someone to look sympathetically at my content and recognise its value and relevance. But as inclusion seems SUCH A CONVOLUTED AND PAINFUL PROCESS I am going to focus on my goals which don't coincide with yours. This experience today has left a bad impression of what Wikipedia is about and how it deals with positive contributions.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Davidjohnbarnes (talkcontribs) .

What are you referring to?

I received a message from you. I'm not sure what you're referring to. Thank you --Migdiachinea 01:03, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

If you're referring to the page on me - please note that entertainment is a difficult profession -- that being said, however, before I came into the picture as a professional screenwriter, there was one (1) Hispanic male writer "associate" member (not enough credits to be a full-fledged current member) of the Writers Guild and no female Hipanics. I was the first Hispanic woman "current" (enough credits) member of the Guild, created the first ever Latino Writers Committee there, and was the first ever to question the Guild on a 1993 discriminatory policy -- as a matter of law -- and also the first ever to testify before Congress at their request in that regard. Out of 100 or so Hispanic Guild members (8000 or so total membership back in 1993, as I helped raise the Hispanic roster), no one else spoke up -- no one. That paltry number of Hispanic Guild members has, in fact, decreased since then and the Guild no longer keeps employment records based on ethnic information because Hispanic membership is so low, it's appalling -- not that I think anyone in entertainment would actually care and those outside of entertainment may not be sophisticated enough in these matters to understand how important and complex the situation really is to all of us. My Congresional material is listed in another encyclopedia and it is part of the congressional record in the Library of Congress. No, I didn't sit in the back of the bus as others did. I don't know what else to say because there's so much more that I wouldn't have the time or space to say it all here. Besides, I have been maltreated and discriminated against quite a bit by all sides, so I'm used to it. Thank you for contacting me, however, you may wish to speak to Evrik on this matter for further clarification, since I was in contact with him earlier. Please inform me as to the criteria and whether they are based on something other than actual civic-minded and creative accomplishments in the face of deliberate discrimination and exclusion, or something else. Please, forgive my numerous attempts at editing this short piece. I've been suffering from allergy-related asthma. It's not fun, but I'm happy to hear your comments.Migdiachinea 01:34, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi, first of all thank you for expressing your concerns. If I remember well I was referring to a page you created that has been deleted since (therefore I don't have any log to check). The page was very short. Since I couldn't help but remark that your username was very similar, I left a message on your talk page explaining the reason of my edits (I reverted your edit on List of Cuban Americans at the same time since it was pointing to the said page). I have no problem with the current state of the pages now. Thanks a lot for your input (and your story is really interesting and I think it has its place on Wikipedia). But this person (65.244.148.222) continues to vandalise this article even though people have given authentic citations. Moreover this person randomly edits this article without giving any kind of citations/ refernces. Could you block this person ? or Could you protect the article from further edit. You could revert back to the version by Dangerous Boy.

Thanks, --Mudaliar 04:27, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi, first of all I wanted to point that I am not an administrator of Wikipedia, even though most of my edits are maintenance tasks. I reverted this user's edit since he was making personal commentaries on the text of the article. Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge to decide which version is the right one. The only advice I can give you is to continue trying to contact this editor on its talk page and on the article talk page, to share your points of view, before going further into the dispute process. Remember to assume good faith, this editor might think he is right and you are wrong ;). Happy Editing! -- lucasbfr talk 05:16, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Now I think I have a headache. - 152.91.9.144 03:20, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Well... There's a small section on my talk but it's a borderline breaching experiment to be frank. The formal benefits (in creating pages and a watchlist) are pretty minor, and the informal drawbacks (in getting treated like dirt) are pretty noticable. So while I could do the easy thing and log in, until we get secure sign-ons validated via email or something I'll keep slogging away with my little numbers and reminding "named" editors that IPs are meant to be respected members of the community, too.

I noticed you recently deleted my edit to the Bowles Hall page. Admittedly, what I wrote was perhaps too harsh. But let me ask you: do you go to Berkeley? Because I do, and I spend a lot of time in Bowles. And they do frequent the sperm bank--it's sort of a joke between the freshmen. It's definitely becoming a tradition, especially after the University limited Bowles to freshmen only. So I am only telling the truth. Also, it's a wonder you caught that so quickly, when the vandalism--true vandalism, I might add--on another page associated with the University went unnoticed for days. --169.229.104.164 03:06, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

So if I did the same thing--sans the drug habit bit, because while it may be true, there's no way I can verify that--would it be okay? --169.229.104.164 03:56, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Hulk Hogan

I did not add nonsense. The Hulk Hogan page said he was an "American rapist," and in the course of editing that I added information on names he went by when he wrestled.

For example, in the WWF and AWA, he went by "Incredible Hulk Hogan" before shortening it to simply "Hulk Hogan." When he originally joined the NWO he became "Hollywood Hulk Hogan" before eventually shortening it to "Hollywood Hogan."

These name changes, although minor, were distinct. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.201.244.25 (talk) 08:16, 15 December 2006 (UTC).

errr... Perhaps you meant raper? Because xxx is an American rapist seems a weird sentence at best. If you are doing such edits, I would urge you to back them up with citations. -- lucasbfr talk 16:36, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Re:Vandalism

No problem. Looking at the recent history of that page, you should definately consider getting semi-protection for your user page. (Wikipedia:Requests for page protection) Cbrown1023 13:50, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi,

You have put yourself as interested in helping out atWikiProject on user warnings. We are now at a stage where we are creating the new templates and are wondering if you are still interested? If so please visit the overview page and choose a warning type you wish to work on. There is a base template available here, which you can copy and use to get you started. Have a look through the redirects and see what old templates are affected and incorporate them into the the new system. Anyway, any questions please don't hesitate to give me a shout. Wabash College change

Stories of the infamous sex-change alum have circled the campus, but few were curious enough to learn his/her name, as evidenced by my removal of (seemingly) a female from the list of of alumni from an all-male school. I do accept your change, but I would suggest you take your own advice, and provide reasoning for your switch back, lest it seem hypocritical. You teaching is about correction, and edification, is it not? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.255.216.178 (talkcontribs).

Non-Aggression Pact

Sorry for the mistake, from looking over the debate it had appeared to have just been POV pushing, but if that is a likely search term, than it does belong as a redirect, and I have restored it. Thanks for pointing that out. Cheers. Canadian-Bacon 07:11, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Lucas -- always happy to learn, but can you be specific about what you mean about what should be changed? Are you speaking of the "hidden comments" with the backward arrow, followed with a !, then several dashes, the comment, then more dashes and the forward arrow? I have used those (tho I accidentally forgot the ! several times earler today. It can be useful to help other editors understand the reasoning behind added material. I have used them to ask for input -- but have since learned about using BANNERS where WP asks for expansion of sections.

I noted the table you have added, but have no notion in the world what it is for or how to use it. Again, can you help me out in understanding? Thanks --Kiwi 08:00, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi again, Lucas. After I finished all my moves and small additions, I went into history and SAW what you trying to tell me, so I used page search and changed all of the banners!!
But I am still clueless about that table. Plus, there are tons more thing I need to learn. I am NOT a "complete" editor, but I guess most of us aren't. WP is, indeed, a team effort, a collaborative task. --Kiwi 10:17, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Please stop reverting the Ocean Beach California page back to its old page. I am deleteing a bunch of information that is not neutral at all. I'm not vandalizing it. I'm correcting it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.136.239.16 (talkcontribs).
