Rollback granted

[edit]

Hi Kiwiz1338. After reviewing your request, I have temporarily enabled rollback on your account until 2023-04-13. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or RedWarn.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 12:09, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Edit War

[edit]

Simply reverting a reinstatement of a paragraph in the Chris Hipkins article with a bland comment that it's false is not good. Rather than precipitate an edit war, I have done what you should and made the point on the talk page with a citation. Please argue the case there. OrewaTel (talk) 08:51, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I replied to your talk page message on Chris Hipkins. Looking forward to hearing your response. Kiwiz1338 (talk) 20:47, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Luxon

[edit]

Kia ora e hoa, I've left some messages on Luxon's talk page. For what it's worth, I'm sorry about the poll editing debacle from a few weeks ago. I wanted to keep what was there to express polling results across the entire year, but you made a very good argument against this and for keeping it updated. I've made an argument for keeping Luxon's political views in the lead. Cheers. Aubernas (talk) 00:09, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Aubernas kia ora, I appreciate our equal standing on the Hipkins polling. Now the Luxon article, I have left a comment on the Luxon talk page outlining some disparities in sourced references and the content, which can be fixed no problem, but we can't have his political views in the lead, no other NZ politician has their political views in the lead and Luxon already has a nice little subsection for it. I hope we agree on this basis. Kiwiz1338 (talk) 04:20, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Good to hear from you. Aubernas (talk) 10:21, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

On 15 October 2023, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article 2023 New Zealand general election, which you updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. Stephen 00:20, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New page reviewer granted

[edit]

Hi Kiwiz1338. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
  • Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
  • Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. Re: GA nomination of Christchurch article

[edit]

Sorry for any bother, but in my opinion it might be a good idea to hold off on nominating this article until the coroner inquest on the shooting (which is currently ongoing and currently started a few weeks ago) is over. There's already been a decent amount of new information revealed in that week alone. In my opinion starting to review it in the middle of a coroner inquest, when new information is coming out, is a difficult position, for both the nominator and the reviewer. Maybe wait like six months? There are also some factual and coverage issues I have with the article but those can probably be fixed in a review. Thanks! PARAKANYAA (talk) 02:35, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Christchurch mosque shootings is clearly not stable, which means it fails GA criteria 5: Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute. PARAKANYAA's advice seems good; now is not a good time to do a GA review. --Tagishsimon (talk) 03:19, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@PARAKANYAA @Tagishsimon Hello, thanks guys for your time and comments. Yes that is right. Sometime next year the final findings will be out and I'm sure a lot will be updated with those findings. So after that it should be all good right? Anything that can be fixed now? Kiwiz1338 (talk) 07:28, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Kiwiz1338 After the coroner inquest stuff should be all good, yep. When it comes to the now:
The biggest problems this article has are problems that plague a lot of event-based articles that are written primarily right after the event occurs and are never cohesively rewritten (especially mass shootings and terrorist attacks, of which this is both). The information in the article isn't baseless, but it gives disproportionate weight to early news coverage that has since proven incorrect or misleading (instead of the later coverage that is based on the royal commission). I could go through some of the issues I notice but I am a bit busy at the moment. There's also some areas of coverage I think could be expanded/improved but the coroner inquest itself might impact that. PARAKANYAA (talk) 15:13, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your insight. There is still old information in the article for sure. Last week I even changed a section that still said the IDs in the back of his car were IEDs "attached" to his car. 4 years later. It will have to be thoroughly looked through by other people. Kiwiz1338 (talk) 15:22, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ooof D: Thank you for your work on improving it. I'll try to look over it sometime and bring those issues over to discuss on the talk page and tag you there when I do. PARAKANYAA (talk) 15:26, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your help. Kiwiz1338 (talk) 15:36, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Kiwiz1338 Can you withdraw the nomination in the meantime? I could quickfail it per the stable thing but that seems a bit over the top PARAKANYAA (talk) 02:44, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Kiwiz1338 (talk) 02:56, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay

[edit]
Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Debacq & cie

[edit]

I note your immediate message in relation to my editing of the article on Debacq and Cie, which is somehow strange.

Debacq is not a living person but my direct ancestor and he died around 1895. I am a member of the 7th generation of the family and hold many of the archives, notably the illustrations. I am the initial author of the original version of this article on French Wikipedia.

My changes were solely adding the missing elements of information, by translation of this original Wikipedia article : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joaillerie_Debacq

I don't understand what I should do more for having them taken into account. 2001:861:3041:8230:A144:1145:E5B3:11A1 (talk) 15:53, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. As I look at my edits now, you're correct and I had made a mistake on the anti-vandalism program Huggle and didn't quite notice at the time. As with the speed of vandalism mistakes are made but it is not an excuse nor is it allowed to be. My apologies again for the incorrect revert of your work. Hey, just a heads up, changing the target of a link from the redirect (David Seymour (New Zealand politician)) to the new title (David Seymour) is a great chance to use the minor edit option. It’s not a change that anyone would reasonably disagree with, so nobody would be annoyed at you hiding it behind the m, and it saves people’s watchlists from being filled with a bunch of the same notices ;) — HTGS (talk) 22:23, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Yep will do, thanks. Kiwiz1338 (talk) 05:49, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, that's an edit that a lot of people would disagree with, on two grounds. The first that such an edit is probably contrary to a guideline, as described at WP:NOTBROKEN. The second is that using a more specific link like David Seymour (New Zealand politician) can protect against the possibility of some later change, if someone later decides that David Seymour is ambiguous and therefore should have a more specific title. In such a case, if a link is already using David Seymour (New Zealand politician), that link will probably continue functioning just fine with no need to be changed again. (Note that double redirects are updated automatically by a bot.) — BarrelProof (talk) 01:41, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@HTGS: courtesy ping to HTGS. — BarrelProof (talk) 01:46, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks BarrelProof. You’re right, I should have started by pointing out that such changes just aren’t necessary, and although such a change feels like it is cleaning up, or might save server time, those are minor concerns, and link-changing of that sort is better left as is. (I’m like 90% sure server load is unaffected by redirects?)
I do maintain though, that if making such changes, and if such changes are not disagreeable—and I allege these were not—they should be marked minor. But at this point I’m splitting hairs. — HTGS (talk) 03:41, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Did you realise you have created in conflict in ratings with this edit? In the banner shell you assessed as C-class, but in the banners you rated as B-class. The best solution is to remove the ratings from the separate banners. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:57, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

List of Top 100 Racehorses

[edit]

Regarding your closure of Talk:Blood-Horse magazine List of the Top 100 U.S. Racehorses of the 20th Century#Requested move 21 November 2023, I am disappointed that the discussion never got to the point about the use of "U.S." in that title. That was a prime motivation for submission of the RM proposal. I suggest reopening the discussion and relisting it to discuss that aspect in particular. Otherwise, I will probably submit another RM on that question, since it was not addressed. — BarrelProof (talk) 19:19, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BarrelProof. Thanks for your message regarding the title change. I have relisted it per your comments. Thanks again. Kiwiz1338 (talk) 04:14, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much for the relisting. I added a specific suggestion to highlight the remaining question. — BarrelProof (talk) 05:58, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Kiwiz1338Hi Kiwiz1338, you dded tags to the page Simple Simon over using Page Curation (refimprove). I worked on the page a little more. May you have a look and perhabs tell me, what else got to be improved. Thank you and greetings. Der Barbar (talk) 14:34, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Der Barbar. Thank you very much for your message and your time helping to create articles here on Wikipedia. I have checked over the article and made a few improvements. All that I immediately see need doing is to find a reference for the two paragraphs in the lead and to cite them. I also see you have made images and added them to the article, fabulous work on that as well! If you need any help, please don't hesitate to message me here or on the article talk page. Cheers. Kiwiz1338 (talk) 14:50, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have made another edit in the first paragraph. Now it is okay? For the second paragraph I have no citation, but you are able to see the difference in the Comparison of Simple Simon over and Simple Simon under. Greetings Der Barbar (talk) 16:13, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You will have to find two secondary sources. See WP:SECONDARY. This is to demonstrate notability as well. Kiwiz1338 (talk) 07:03, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The other version of the Simple Simon, the Simple Simon under has less references and is less detailled. So this article also demonstrate no notability?
So have I just to find another reference for the Simple Simon Over? Der Barbar (talk) 16:43, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes you'll have to find two more secondary references. Kiwiz1338 (talk) 03:19, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please look another time at the article. I put in two more reliable sources. It is okay now? Could you remove the Notability tag? Or what else I have to do? Der Barbar (talk) 07:51, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi there @Kiwiz1338,

You recently removed the photo from this wiki page on copyright violation grounds, even though the same photo still sits perfectly on wikidata and the page's entry in another language. So, does the item's copyright restrict its usage to, only on one language in wikipedia? and if not, how one must assess a photo's copy vio status in general?

Hello. @Xpander1 Just saw the deletion nomination and thought to remove it until the deletion nomination was concluded. But looking at the photo source it has a Creative Commons 4.0 License. Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. Hi Kiwiz1338. Thank you for your work on Nuke Mars. Another editor, Chaotic Enby, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

Not every single thought by Musk deserves an article. If there isn't a concrete project behind it, it should just get to be a section in Terraforming of Mars.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Chaotic Enby}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:112 Somerville Street, Andersons Bay, Dunedin.jpeg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:112 Somerville Street, Andersons Bay, Dunedin.jpeg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 21:05, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Christopher Luxon

[edit]

Hi. Please first discuss your decision to spin off the premiership section of the Christopher Luxon article. The article is not especially long, and he has been in office for under a year, so I don't think spinning off that section is appropriate (yet). He is most notable as prime minister, so leaving that section empty is not advisable. -- Hazhk (talk) 18:50, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Kiwiz1338. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or draft page you started, "2024 Fort Worth explosion".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 15:41, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Hamburg airport hostage standoff arrest.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file from a commercial source (e.g. Associated Press, Getty Images), where the file itself is not the subject of sourced commentary. If you can explain why the file can be used under the non-free content guidelines, please add the appropriate non-free use tag and rationale.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion".
