Hello John.

have a common agenda in promoting Carlos La Cruz/Carlos E La Cruz in article space,[Diff of List of chefs, 16 May][Re-add to List of chefs, 2 June][Diff of Telemundo, 15 November][Diff of Venezuelan cuisine, 15 November][and one more Diff of Venezuelan cuisine, 15 November]...[Result looked like this]...[Re-add to Telemundo, 16 November][Diff of List of Venezuelans, 23 November][Diff of Venezuela, 27 November] removed by Materialscientist but [re-added 5 min later] ... the list goes on as well as on his talk page,[Diff] creating an article on a cookbook he has written,AfD:Delete and promoting other Venezuelan chefs.
Per SIMNAME and Hospitalityandmore2013's recent deletion on Hospitalityandmore's talk page,[Diff] and similarity in editing pattern the quacking is audible to even dead chefs. JamesBWatson made the same observation.[uw-advert3, 28 November]
- Notifications
- CARLOS E LA CRUZ received a uw-autobiography from Alexf 16 May.[Diff]
- Hospitalityandmore received, apart from multiple speedy, prod, and AfD notifications, individual messages from you,[Diff] Karl 334,[Diff] and Mkdw[Diff] regarding FIRST, NPOV, N, &c. &c., but continued article creation and was blocked.[Diff]
- Hospitalityandmore2013 received a stern uw-advert3 on 28 November.[Diff]
- Article recreation again (intended pleonasm)
Two deleted articles have been recreated, A. Elia Nora Rodriguez, and B. Carlos La Cruz
- A. Deleted under G11 twice.[1] I never saw that article, but could it have looked like this? The current recreation is a oneliner. A quick look at Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL makes me think that there may be sources to support notability. What do you think?
- B. Carlos has been deleted twice under G11 and once under R2 with the title Carlos La Cruz,[2] and twice with the title Carlos E La Cruz, first following AfD,AfD:Delete then under G4.[3] It has now been created for the 5th (or 6th?) time as Carlos La Cruz.
I suppose this story about articles on chefs lends a deeper meaning to WP:SALT. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 08:22, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
- I have deleted Carlos La Cruz as a recreation of an article deleted following a deletion discussion. The article's claim of significance was essentially that he has been included in a list of about 70 or so "top" chefs that someone drew up and posted on a web site. He may be notable, but nobody has produced any evidence whatever of any coverage in any source (reliable or otherwise) beyond inclusion in a list, and my searches have failed to produce evidence of notability, in addition to the conclusion of the AfD to the same effect. Exactly the same applies to Elia Nora Rodriguez, except that as far as I know there has never been an AfD. My first impulse was to delete that article, but on reflection I decided that I was not sure that it satisfies any of the speedy deletion criteria. (It has certainly been created for promotional purposes, but is not blatantly promotional in itself, without consideration of the history of related articles and the accounts used to create them. It does not give any evidence of satisfying Wikipedia's notability guidelines, but does the vague and undefined claim that she is a "top" chef constitute a "claim of significance"?) I have searched extensively for information about her, and my conclusion is that there is a large publicity campaign to make her and Carlos La Cruz appear significant, including inclusion of information on web pages which superficially look independent, but which on closer inspection don't seem to be. It is very difficult to find much coverage of either of them that is clearly from an independent source. The best I managed was http://www.zimbio.com/Anthony+Bourdain/articles/Pt2nQWfpbpf/Venezuelan+Chef+Elia+Nora+Rodriguez. I don't know much about Zimbio, and am not sure how useful it might be for establishing notability, but in any case that one page is limited coverage. If she really is such a "top" chef, one would expect it to be very easy to find much more. My opinion is that the subject does not satisfy our notability standards.
- Of the four accounts listed by Sam Sailor at the beginning of this section, the only one that has edited within the last six months is Hospitalityandmore2013, and I have blocked that one as a promotion-only account. (The most recent editing was less blatantly promotional than earlier contributions, but in my opinion, taken in the context of the whole editing history of the account, it was clearly a continuation of the attempt to use Wikipedia for promotion.) Unless that account is unblocked, I would regard any further similar editing, either by one of the other three accounts listed or by any new account, as sockpuppetry. (Or possibly meatpuppetry, but it makes little difference.) JamesBWatson (talk) 10:51, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
- @JamesBWatson: thanks, I entirely agree with your assessment. I too had watched the reappearance of Elia Nora Rodriguez and decided that, though there was certainly promotional intent, the most recent version was not speediable. I would consider taking it to AfD if (which is not likely soon) I find time to check that the sources ain't there. JohnCD (talk) 22:53, 10 December 2013 (UTC)

I have made extensive searches to try to find evidence of notability for Elia Nora Rodriguez. I really found nothing. A YouTube video about Carlos La Cruz, uploaded by Carlos La Cruz himself, describes Elia Nora Rodriguez as "President of the Chef Association of Venezuela", which superficially sounds like an indication of importance. However, further investigation fails to produce evidence that the organisation is at all notable. The original Spanish title turns out to be "Asociación de Chef de Venezuela". A Google search for "Asociación de Chef de Venezuela" "Elia Nora Rodriguez" produced all of nine hits, and "Elia Nora Rodriguez" "Chef Association of Venezuela" produced 10. What is more, the hits consist largely of pages on Twitter, Blogspot, Facebook, etc, together with other non-reliable and/or non-independent sources. All of the hits for the English language search, apart from one page of results on a search page, refer to one occasion when she lavished praise on Carlos La Cruz. Several of the Spanish hits are similar, and they also include a page at carloslacruzrestaurantconsultant.onsugar.com. Widening the search to just "Chef Association of Venezuela", omitting the name of the president, still produced only 10 hits, while "Asociación de Chef de Venezuela" produced a few hundred, largely Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, Blogspot, etc etc. Clearly the association is nothing like as significant as its grandiose title might suggest, and in any case, there does not seem to be much coverage of Elia Nora Rodriguez anywhere, either in connection with that organisation or otherwise. Yes, a Google search for "Elia Nora Rodriguez" produces thousands of hits, but after filtering out the sources which are unreliable and/or non-independent and/or contain only trivial mentions of her, almost nothing is left. In fact, the best that I found was http://www.zimbio.com/Anthony+Bourdain/articles/Pt2nQWfpbpf/Venezuelan+Chef+Elia+Nora+Rodriguez. I don't know much about Zimbio, and am not sure how useful it is for establishing notability, but at best it is just one usable source. I have come to the conclusion that she is not notable, and I shall put a PROD on the article. If that is contested I shall go to AfD unless someone else beats me to it. Virtuous Records
Hello,
I am trying to create a page for my company. https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Virtuous_Records It was deleted because "A7: Article about a company, corporation or organization, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject)" It is an independent label partnered with The University Co. and Universal Music Group. Without independent labels, there wouldn't be a lot of artists--other than the major ones. That is the importance of my company, we focus on artists who don't have the means of getting heard by a major label. As a UMG partnered company on behalf of the University Co, our artists will be heard by them. I would really like my page back so that I may continue to adjust it, add to it.

Thank you
See edit summary here. JamesBWatson (talk) 20:36, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- @JamesBWatson: I have most of that set up as a piece of boiler-plate in a text file, but I haven't managed to make a sufficiently general-purpose version to propose as a template. I am getting very tired of using it, though, and I am convinced that immense amounts of frustration and wasted effort would be saved if the sign-on page said, in letters of fire:
"Wikipedia is not a place for you to tell the world about yourself or your group or company; if that is what you want to do, this is not the site for you."
- I don't suppose the WMF would agree, but I am thinking seriously about starting an RFC to propose it. I did propose this once before, but everyone said it was too unfriendly and wanted to water down the words and the discussion petered out. JohnCD (talk) 20:58, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- That is exactly the result I would expect, unfortunately. However, I am convinced it is mistaken. In my opinion, it is much more friendly to make it clear to a new user right from the start that there are certain things they should not do than to let them go ahead and put time and effort into doing those things, and then delete their work, and quite possibly block them too. Avril Lavigne album
Hi, since you've locked the certifications part on Avril Lavigne (2013 album) page, could you add a Gold certification in China, as the album has surpassed 10,000 sales.--StephenN17 (talk) 19:30, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
- Avril Lavigne (album) is only semi-protected, so you are free to edit it. The reason your edit to the Certifications table didn't show is that you put your new table entry in the middle of one of the others. I have fixed it like this. JohnCD (talk) 23:12, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

Daniel Skelton
Thanks for reviewing my undelete request. From your description of the article that you found, it sounds as though most or all of the text that I had written had been blanked out at some point, because I had included a short bio, filmography, links to and from relevant Wiki pages, citations, categories, etc. when I wrote it. I will work on a new article in my user space. Cheers. Stevenmg (talk) 16:21, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
- @Stevenmg: the deleted article never had any more content than that. It was only two edits, by user Milinjc (talk), on 19 Dec 2011. I don't see anything in your deleted contributions, nor has there been an article at Daniel Skelton (actor). Did you write it from another account, or under another title? If you can remember either, I can probably recover it, to save you some work. JohnCD (talk) 17:44, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
- John: how odd. It is possible that I worked on the article off-line and then never got around to copying the text over into the article itself. I was working on it during a particularly busy time at work a year or so ago. Thanks for checking though. I confirmed last night that the sources that I had been using are still available, so I will just either track down the text on my computer or rewrite as need be. Thanks for your help. Stevenmg (talk) 18:31, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
- @Stevenmg: someone else is/has been interested - there is a declined AfC submission at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Daniel Skelton. You could develop that (in which case you should work on that page rather than copying from it, so as to preserve attribution to the other authors), but you might well do better starting from scratch. VisualEditor newsletter • 19 December 2013
Since the last newsletter, the VisualEditor team has worked on some toolbar improvements, fixing bugs, and improving support for Indic languages as well as other languages with complex characters. The current focus is on improving the reference dialog and expanding the new character inserter tool.
There have been dozens of changes since the last newsletter. Here are some of the highlights:
- Rich copying and pasting is now available. If you copy text from another website, then character formatting and some other HTML attributes are preserved. This means, for example, that if you copy a pre-formatted suggested citation from a source like this, then VisualEditor will preserve the formatting of the title in the citation. Keep in mind that copying the formatting may include formatting that you don't want (like section headings). If you want to paste plain, unformatted text onto a page, then use Control+⇧ Shift+V or ⌘ Command+⇧ Shift+V (Mac).
- Auto-numbered external links like [4] can now be edited just like any other link. However, they cannot be created in VisualEditor easily.
- Several changes to the toolbar and dialogs have been made, and more are on the way. The toolbar has been simplified with a new drop-down text styles menu and an "insert" menu. Your feedback on the toolbar is wanted here. The transclusion/template dialog has been simplified. If you have enabled mathematical formula editing, then the menu item is now called the formula editor instead of LaTeX.
- There is a new character inserter, which you can find in the new "insert" menu, with a capital Omega ("Ω"). It's a very basic set of characters. Your feedback on the character inserter is wanted here.
- Saving the page should seem faster by several seconds now.
- It is now possible to access VisualEditor by manually editing the URL, even if you are not logged in or have not opted in to VisualEditor normally. To do so, append
?veaction=edit
to the end of the page name. For example, changehttps://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Special:Random
tohttps://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Special:Random?veaction=edit
to open a random page in VisualEditor. This is intended to support bug testing across multiple browsers, without requiring editors to login repeatedly.
Looking ahead: The transclusion dialog will see further changes in the coming weeks, with a simple mode for single templates and an advanced mode for more complex transclusions. The new character formatting menu on the toolbar will get an arrow to show that it is a drop-down menu. The reference dialog will be improved, and the Reference item will become a button in the main toolbar, rather than an item in the Insert menu.
If you have questions or suggestions for future improvements, or if you encounter problems, please let everyone know by posting a note at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you! Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 20:35, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

Jasper Orton
may I make an article about Randy Orton's cousin Jasper Orton who is yet to debut on NXT Wrestling? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Haxz.999 (talk • contribs) 22:41, 22 December 2013
- <draft article removed - this is not the place for it>
- @Haxz.999: you do not need permission to write an article, but an article like that would certainly be deleted, because if Jasper Orton is not going to debut until next year or the year after, he cannot possibly yet be notable enough to have an article. Wikipedia does not cover people who are "up and coming", still less those who have not even started. Notability requires references to "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." An article will have to wait until after he has debuted and had enough successes that independent people have written about him. I don't know whether there is a specific notability standard for wrestlers, but you could get advice about that at Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling. For general advice, read WP:Your first article, particularly the parts about notability and references. JohnCD (talk) 23:15, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

Mass deletion of pages added by MayaSolderr
What is behind this mass deletion? Thom2002 (talk) 21:26, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
- This is the latest sockpuppet of a troublesome blocked user, Pumpie (talk). For background, see User talk:Pumpie and the SPI. This has been going on for over two years. In these circumstances, the policy is to use WP:CSD#G5 to delete all contributions on sight. The alternative, to check the contributions and keep "good" ones, only encourages the blocked user to keep socking, and makes blocks and bans toothless. This one had made a large number of contributions before being detected, and rather than work through them individually it was quicker to use the nuclear option, the mass deletion facility, which lets one list all recent contributions from a given user, check to see if any should be kept, and delete the rest with one click. JohnCD (talk) 22:25, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

StopCartel
Hello, John. I would very much like for this article to be placed on sandbox status so that I can try to put it into shape. The grounds for deletion are copyright violation, and it is possible to get permission from StopCartel. But, realizing that an encyclopedia is not a place for promoting an association and that receiving permission may actually put me under suspicion of doing that, I have to say that the organization StopCartel and its founder, Dr. Giorgos Kosmopoulos, are worthy of note for several reasons. One is that StopCartel is an ongoing organization that has been reporting on the situation in Greece since well before the crash in 2008 and the crisis it has plunged the country into. Another is that Dr. Kosmopoulos himself is of genuine interest, being a thhoracic surgeon trained under Dr. Christiaan Barnard in South Africa and former head of thoracic surgery at a major Athens hospital, but also a citizen journalist who has worked steadily and tirelessly before, but especially during the current crisis in Greece to make the situation of his native country known. It's true that I originally based the article on the existing StopCartel Web site, though not as closely as seems to have been assumed by the person nominating it for deletion. But all I ask is that it be restored to sandbox form so that I can work on it and update it, or perhaps even change it fundamentally, and perhaps re-submit it.

URGENT - Deletion Error
Dear "JohnCD" :
I have had a Wikipedia page for over a decade that was created by Wikipedia because of national recognition I received in newspapers and media as a Federal Prosecutor, and my appointment as Deputy Chief of the Mollen Commission on Police Corruption in New York City in 1990.
A few weeks ago I updated my Wikipedia page -- and I must have hit an incorrect key and IT WAS DELETED. I THINK I CAN IDENTIFY THE ERROR: I was recently a featured speaker at Harvard University for successful social justice efforts. The link contained the word "campaign" 'and I got a notice that I was not allowed to use advertising on Wikipedia, THEN IT WAS DELETED. BUT THERE WAS NO ADVERTISING OF ANY KIND IN THE LINK.'''''Bold textBold text The link was about Harvard praising three national efforts to help underserved children. It used the word "campaign" to describe these efforts but it had nothing to do advertising.
I am a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School.
I was proud to have a Wikipedia site created in my name many years ago. HOW CAN I HAVE IT REINSTATED DUE TO THE ERROR I CAUSED WHEN I EDITED IT?
Thank you for your help! I hope your weather in the UK is better than it is New York City now!!
Sincerely,
Leslie Cornfeld

Basically, what I'm seeing (what my sister submitted) was taken from a newspaper article on my father. I'd like to start fresh and reorganize the entire article according to the guidelines you've sent me. This seems much more efficient than editing line by line. Can this be done? If so, how? Thank you. Arpistria (talk) 21:55, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Arpistria: yes, certainly; I have cleared the AfC page so that you have a blank slate to work on, and put an "unsubmitted draft" template at the top, which has a link to submit it for review when you are ready. JohnCD (talk) 12:59, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

Sebastien Stella
Thanks John, I appreciate your comments. I do understand the standard at work here, that it's not enough to list credits or say the artist is important; you need to cite other people and sources saying that. The problem with an artist like Stella is that as special and clearly "notable" as he is, he largely works behind the scenes. It's his job basically to have an artist like Pink get all of the attention and credit and for him to be known more within the industry than outside it. It's not impossible to find secondary sources in trade magazines, theater programs and TV videos, but it is difficult because much of that stuff is available neither online or in libraries. And I'm not sure whether mentions of Stella in press materials for a movie or stage show would be useable as a reliable source.
I'll just forge ahead. Thanks again for the response. Happy New Year. Lloyd Sachs

My Giant Friend
Dear JohnCD,
I would like to ask you if you could make a page for My Giant Friend. It is a french cartoon which was dubbed in to English language and was aired in 2011. It used to run on Cartoon Network.
Yours Sincerely, Khiz99 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Khiz99 (talk • contribs) 10:52, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Khiz99: I'm afraid I do not have to time to write this article. I suggest you post a request at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cartoon Network, where people interested in this area would see it; or you could try using the WP:Article wizard to help you write one yourself. If you do that, read WP:Your first article first, and make sure you have independent references about the subject to establish notability. JohnCD (talk) 17:45, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
Deletion of /Allegaeon
Greetings JohnCD,
I am new to the world of wiki editing/page creation. If you could I would appreciate a clearer understanding as to why my page was deleted instantaneously upon submission for review. Accompanying this clarification I would greatly appreciate (if it does not get put up) to have my code back in the "sandbox" that was mentioned on your help page.
They are truly a great band constantly being recognized by websites and radios as breaking their top 20's list or reaching the Metalstorm.net top 4 death metal bands of all time. They are also being recognized by other bands (whom have made it big and received a worthy wikipedia page) by touring or recording with them: including Cephalic Carnage, Cattle Decapitation, Vale of Pnath...
Thank you for your time,
Heath24green (talk) 09:40, 7 January 2014 (UTC)Heath M
- @Heath24green: I really do not understand what you mean by "deleted instantaneously": the draft article Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Allegaeon was last edited on 13 June 2012, and was only deleted on 30 July 2013 after lying untouched for over a year. Have you submitted some other page more recently? You have no previous entries from this account.
- I have restored it as you requested at WP:REFUND and you are welcome to improve it and re-submit it for review. Just saying that they are great is not enough: what is needed is references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" to show how they meet WP:BAND.
- The actual title Allegaeon has been salted - protected against creation - because of three submissions in 2010 which were copyright violations and grossly promotional; but if the AfC submission is accepted any administrator can unprotect the title. JohnCD (talk) 11:35, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
- @JohnCD: I was not aware that there had been previous attempts for the creation of Allegaeon. I started from scratch trying to follow the layout of other band pages, and after being satisfied with my preview I had clicked the save button. The page refreshed and asked for me to put a verification code in (my code was still in tact)and after putting the code in it came to the page saying my submission had been deleted.
- Sorry for the misunderstanding; as of now I was wondering if there was a way to retrieve my code, or is the last bit of code saved from the thirteenth of June as previously mentioned? - As of now I shall look for more sources and begin from scratch again.
- I simply wanted to save the page so while I submitted Allegaeon others could add to it while I also did research to it I would be able to grow at a faster rate.
- Thank you again, john
- Heath24green (talk) 23:38, 7 January 2014 (UTC)Heath M
- @Heath24green: ah, that explains it. No I'm afraid your input is lost - as an administrator I can see whether there are deleted contributions from your account, which could be recovered, but there are none, so it never got into the system at all. I'm not sure what can have happened - I just tried, as an experiment, to create the page using an alternate, non-admin account, and the system just told me the page had been deleted, and did not offer me an edit tab.
- You had better work on the existing draft at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Allegaeon. There are two versions there already: you are welcome to use any bits of them that help, or simply overwrite them with a new version. The first one looks more like an encyclopedia article - the second is too gossipy, evidently the band telling its story to the world. Read WP:Your first article for advice, and WP:BAND for the notability standard for bands. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 23:02, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Revision
I followed your directions, and clicked on prev for July 12, 2013 on the Sam Fuller page. I saw my edit on the left for line 78, and the revision on the right. But they are both identical.bruvensky (talk) 17:49, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
- You can make a link to a page by writing its name between double square brackets like [[Sam Fuller]]). The 12 July 2013 edit to Sam Fuller was by Usm, and its diff was this, showing insertion of some square brackets between "Sodankylä" and "Finland" near the end of the second paragraph. JohnCD (talk) 18:11, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
If I use a common name that has more than one page on Wikipedia, do I have to use it exactly to make it link? For example Senator Gordon Smith is in Wikipedia as Gordon H. Smith, but I would like to do it without his middle initial. Is there a way to use the name without the middle initial and still like to his page, without the yellow icon appearing at the end? I tried in my sandbox to use the formatting for external links with one bracket at each end, i.e., [wikipedia url Gordon Smith], but that icon appeared. Is there a way to do this without the icon appearing?bruvensky (talk) 22:19, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Bruvensky: yes, you can do it like this: [[Gordon H. Smith|Gordon Smith]] produces Gordon Smith but links to the article. You can have anything you like after the | (pipe) character - see Help:Piped link. JohnCD (talk) 22:44, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

Trenck family
Dear John,
I am soliciting your help. I am totally new to wikipedia and I just spent a few hours writing a new article on the Trenck family. I saved it a couple of times. When I logged out and searched for it the article already was marked for speedy deletion by a certain MrScorch6200. What can I do to prevent the page from being deleted?
I have already explained that the Trenck family is very well known in Germany. The most notable member is Friedrich von der Trenck, who secretly married the sister of Frederic the Great. He wrote his memoires before he was beheaded in the French Revolution. To this day there have been many films about him. Friedrich had a famous cousin, Franz von der Trenck.

WARNING!! Don't use our school's name on Wikipedia anymore. Otherwise will will take an action under copyright law against Wikipedia and their editors who is trying to change the information! Thanks!
I agree with your comments to JamesBWatson regarding the inapplicability of G7 — I don't understand what Matthew has to do with it, since the blocked user was the only one to edit the page before it got tagged for deletion, but I don't see any comments by the creator asking/permitting/requesting/etc the deletion. However, since it was a disruptively created fork of an existing AFC page and existing article, I'm willing to give this one over to IAR; it's not as if anyone's going to suffer or anyone's going to make a good-faith complaint. Nyttend (talk) 20:22, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
- The history has got terribly tangled by moves and countermoves but basically, the blocked user posted a fluffy and promotional article, Matthew sorted it out and produced this acceptable version, and there ensued a fearful edit war with the OP trying to restore the fluff and eventually adding a G7 tag. I have restored Matthew's version and semi-protected it for a month, as they will probably be back with IP and socks. JohnCD (talk) 20:35, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi. I've recently got a notice that you reverted my edit on a page that doesn't exist. Can you tell me more about that? Cheers, Alex discussion ★ 16:51, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
- What was the name of the page, and the time/date of the notice you got? JohnCD (talk) 17:01, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, but this is only details I have: ″Your edit on [No page] has been reverted by JohnCD. [No page] 1 day ago″ Alex discussion ★ 20:11, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
- Ha! Found it. The page was Amtek Industries. You undid some edits by an IP, which had removed a PROD template. I reverted you, because once a PROD has been removed by anyone, for any reason or none, it may not be replaced, the article has to go to AfD. Then I set about doing the research for that, but what I found convinced me to speedy-delete it as a blatant hoax. It was about a Saudi embroidery firm, but references had been falsified and content copied from other articles, so that it claimed that this embroidery company had 455,947 staff and made US$7.33 billion annual profit, and had built, among other things, the Alte Weser (lighthouse), the Copenhagen metro and the Niagara Tunnel Project. Feathercoin
Please note that we have already talked to Sandstein (talk) about this, and his response was to turn to the deletion review. But this case is simpler. Sandstein took sides and deleted the page against many keep votes, neglecting the notability sources. These an be listed explicitly, but since several were mentioned in the article itself, with all the keep votes, nobody expected the actual deletion. I'm not very experienced, do you think deletion review should be done before asking for undeletion? Kokot.kokotisko (talk) 05:29, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Kokot.kokotisko: yes, WP:Deletion review is your next step for challenging the result of an AfD. WP:Requests for undeletion is intended only for uncontroversial cases like restoring articles deleted after a WP:Proposed deletion tag has not been challenged in seven days. At DRV you need to argue either that the closing adminstrator, Sandstein, did not interpret correctly the consensus of the AfD debate at WP:Articles for deletion/Feathercoin (2nd nomination), or that there is more information which was not available at the AfD. I see that Sandstein has "userfied" the page to User:WSF/Feathercoin, so if you have more information it would be best to add it to that draft article before going to DRV. JohnCD (talk) 10:52, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
Hello. Thanks for closing the AfD for James Stacy (US soldier). Unfortunately, someone moved the article to James Stacy Adams while the discussion was going on, so the article is still there. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 18:34, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Fixed, thank you. I wish people wouldn't do that. JohnCD (talk) 18:39, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Your closure didn't address a point I made -- that while there isn't enough material to establish individual notability, the material in that article could reasonably be re-used in other articles.
- The free licenses contributors release their contributions under oblige us to attribute those contributions. This is I why I suggested a closure of redirection that preserved the contribution history.
- If there is a reason why you don't think this is appropriate, and you think some policy or wiki-document would explain your decision, would you please offer me a link to that document?
- If there is no wikidocument, could you try to explain your decision?
- Thanks! Geo Swan (talk) 23:55, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Geo Swan: yours was a solitary voice for merge and delete: if it had changed the view of earlier participants, there were two days when they could have said so. I do not think that license attribution considerations oblige us to refrain from deleting material in case it might be useful elsewhere. Since the content of the article was entirely contributed by you, and you made the addition to the battalion article, there is no material in the encyclopedia for which you have not been credited. The consensus to delete was clear. If you wish, you may of course challenge it at DRV. JohnCD (talk) 21:44, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. I was going to offer a couple of counter-points. Instead I will offer just one.
- We delete articles where the content violates a policy, like WP:COPYVIO or WP:NOR, and we delete articles based on a consensus the topic doesn't measure up to our notability criteria.
- In the first case there is no reason anyone should ever need to review the deleted material -- it can't be re-used, even if new references emerge that clearly establish the notability of the topic. If those new strong references that clearly established notability emerged, a brand new article would have to be written.
- In the second case there is no reason why the contribution history of the old article should not be available for any good faith contributor to review. If new references emerge, that clearly establish the topic's notability, there is no reason why good faith contributors who think the wikipedia should have an article on that topic can't start with the old article as a base, incorporating material that uses the new references, agreed?
- In the second case, when there are good candidate article(s) where the valid policy compliant material can be merged, and the not sufficiently notable article can then be redirected to the more notable related article, I suggest it is clearly in the best interests of the project for the contribution history of the deleted article to be retained.
- Please note: User:United States Man wrote in part "Half of what little is there isn't even about him." I suggest this can be interpreted as a tacit acknowledgment that valid, policy-compliant material in the article should be covered elsewhere.
- Please note: User:Bearian wrote "Delete as NN. However ... this could be re-created if he was tied, by a reliable source, to the tortures." I suggest this comment is a tacit recognition that the article contained valid, policy-compliant material -- material that could be re-used elsewhere.
- So the comments of participants in the discussion do include comments a closing administrator could reference to explain why a merge and redirect closing was in the best interests of the project.
- You wrote above "there were two days" when my counter-argument could have altered the positions of those who had already voiced delete opinions. I think we both know how rarely people who have left an opinion in an afd they view as open and shut go back and re-read it later, just in case a counter-argument might cause them to amend that position. Rather, we count on administrators to be mature, insightful, fair-minded administrators to make a good closure, that takes all valid arguments into account, and who have a willingness to make a closure at odds with a pure vote-counting conclusion, when that is in the best interests of the project.
- I recreated James Stacy Adams as a redirect to 302nd Military Intelligence Battalion (United States). Would you please restore its contribution history? Geo Swan (talk) 17:59, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- By the logic of your first few paragraphs, nothing should ever be deleted for notability reasons. That is not how Wikipedia works. Deleted material and its history can be, and frequently is, recovered when there is good reason, by request to an admin or at WP:REFUND.
- What you are asking is that I change my close from "Delete" to "Merge and redirect". No, I will not do that, that was not the consensus of the debate. If you disagree, go to DRV. JohnCD (talk) 23:32, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- My opinion was only mine, and did not seem to be exactly the consensus of "just delete already". Bearian (talk) 18:16, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Geo Swan: yours was a solitary voice for merge and delete: if it had changed the view of earlier participants, there were two days when they could have said so. I do not think that license attribution considerations oblige us to refrain from deleting material in case it might be useful elsewhere. Undeletion request for Quark (Cryptocurrency)
Hi John,
I am not sure who is the responsible administrator on deletion. (https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Quark_(cryptocurrency)&action=history, https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Quark_(Cryptocurrency)&action=edit&redlink=1) So, I copied the same arguments to both of you
CC: Mark Arsten
I would like to request un-delete Quark (Cryptocurrency) (https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Quark_(cryptocurrency)&action=history) and give an opportunity to Quark community (http://www.reddit.com/r/QuarkCoin/) rewrite the article in diligent way.
I am here because WP:DRV suggests "discuss the matter with the closing administrator and try to resolve it with him or her first. If you and the admin cannot work out a satisfactory solution, only then should you bring the matter before Deletion review."
Reason for requesting un-deletion is the premise "if significant new information has come to light since a deletion that would justify recreating the deleted page;" Cryptocurrency is a fast moving technology, so things have been changed a lot after the deletion of the article Quarkcoin on 10 December 2013.
Quark has one of the most vibrant communities in Cryptocurrency domain with tens of thousands of investors, followers and volunteers (http://www.reddit.com/r/QuarkCoin/). There are more than 50,000 wallet addresses that contain more than 0.1 Quarks (http://bitinfocharts.com/top-100-richest-quarkcoin-addresses.html). It was once 4th largest Cryptocoin, now 9th largest (http://coinmarketcap.com/-- this reference is used by main stream media like Forbes to Wired), which says about its popularity and adoption. There is a new Quark related project in every few days. That being said, there are also plenty of new mainstream media articles and articles from other reliable sources that talk about Quark:
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2013/nov/28/bitcoin-alternatives-future-currency-investments

http://www.coindesk.com/alternative-cryptocurrencies-thrive-bitcoins-shadow/
http://www.policymic.com/articles/79017/bitcoin-vs-dogecoin-which-one-is-really-worth-more
More articles can be found if time is provided to do the research. What all these articles have in common is that when they refer to a list of notable cryptocurrencies, Quark is always mentioned in such lists! So, people may want to know more about Quark. Wikipedia being a top source for community based knowledge, will serve the purpose in best possible way.
I believe that I have tried made the case on be half of the Quark community that that in all fairness Quark has long earned its position among the notable cryptocurrencies to be an objective Wikipedia article on Cryptocurrency.

You deleted my sandbox!
AHHH!! I cant believe you deleted my sandbox page. It was important to the revitalization process. It's been a work in progress for over 5 years. So important that I forgot about it. Please, PLEASE, put it back so that i may go on living and breathing. I'm hypo-ventilating in distress about it being gone! I need it restored before the show ends!
Seriously though, I don't care about that page in particular. I would have voted for a speedy delete too. If I logged in more than once or twice a month. Have a great day. Long live the Wiki! Zoom. Zoom! EmperorofPeopleEverywhere (talk) 07:05, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

Robert Saleh
Hello I now have the appropriate sources to support my article for Robert Saleh the Detroit Free Press, Dearborn Press and Guide both wrote stories about him within the past few days. Is this enough to publish this page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Miray1 (talk • contribs) 21:56, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Miray1: edit the draft article to add the references. Read WP:Your first article for advice, and WP:Notability (people) for the standard required. I would advise omitting the "Personal" section, which is too promotional in tone and reads like a gossip mag or fan-site rather than an encyclopedia. When it is ready, click "Resubmit" in the decline box at the top: that will send it back to WP:Articles for creation, where a reviewer will either accept it or give you feedback. - After looking at it, I agree Sherurcij's early draft of User:Geo Swan/Jamil Qasim Saeed Mohammed is unlikely to be able to be brought up to today's standalone article standards, and I saw no good merge and redirection targets, so I applied a {{db-u1}}. - @Launchballer: just make a new article, it's a different person. The deleted article was about a schoolchild in Wales, the mountaineer comes from Devon. She isn't the youngest, though: her website says "It is a shame some of the press keep getting it wrong though, many congratulations to Leanna Shuttleworth and Becky Bellworthy, both younger than Mollie who also summitted successfully this weekend." Center for Work Life article
Hello John,
We are trying to publish a page with information about the organization Center for Work Life and founder Farnaz Namin-Hedayati. Based on your feedback on the copyright issues with the previous page, we've gone into our business website and pasted the waiver notice (The text of this website [or page] is released under the Creative Commons Zero Waiver 1.0 (CC0).) on the pages which we have appropriated information from: The About Us page, Bio and Dynamic Speaker pages. We've also uploaded the photo which we personally created and released it to Wikimedia Commons and linked that to the page.
I believe we've addressed all of your copyright concerns. However, please email if you have any remaining questions or issues. It is emilyann(at)centerforworklife(dot)com.
Thank you so much for your assistance. We've reconstructed the page and hope it is now up to standard.

Hi, this editor repeatedly keeps harassing Eric Corbett with messages like [25]. Other than that he seems to be fairly constructive and has posted a lot at ANI today although his edit here seemed a bit extreme. I'm convinced he's here to cause trouble. What do you think? Perhaps he should be warned not to leave such sarcastic messages? Thanks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:52, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
- I don't really see anything that needs admin action. This is obviously not a newbie, as you say most of his edits are constructive, and I think he knows exactly what he's doing, so I doubt if a warning would have any effect. I also doubt if Eric needs protection - his talk page is a bit of a free-fire zone at the best of times. JohnCD (talk) 23:14, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
Sandip Goswami
Honorable Sir , I am a fan of Poet Sandip Goswami. I am not a relative of Mr. Goswami. Poeat Sandip Goswami lives at a small towm Nabadwip which was ancient capital of undivided Bengal. So he is out of lime light. I created a page about Sandip Goswami in facebook. [1] and distributing his great Bengali poems , articles , Inflaming ( philosophy ). Some great magazines in Facebook are shearing poems of Poet Sandip Goswami. About 5,00,000 Bengali people in the world are reading his creation through Facebook with love and respect. I am trying to do my best. Unfortunately Wikipedia does not understand to the value of Sandip Goswami . Poet Sandip Goswami is a silent person and dislikes every advertisement and believes on every great creation in the world. He got Dipendra memorial award by Dipendra Natya academy at Nabadwip . Please try to understand him with love and respect. Earnestly hope that you will give a chance to the supporters of Poet Sandip Goswami. We want true judgement from Wikipedia. Yours faithfully. Sagnik Goswami, Krishnagar, Nadia, West Bengal, India. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sagnik Goswami (talk • contribs) 10:02, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
- The way that Wikipedia assesses the value of any subject is called WP:Notability and is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." If Sandip Goswami is publishing his poems on Facebook and is otherwise "out of the limelight", I am afraid it is not likely that an article about him will be acceptable. See WP:Notability (summary) and WP:AUTHOR for more detail. Have his poems been reviewed in a newspaper? Has anyone written about him in a reliable source - that means somewhere with editorial control, not blogs, Facebook or Twitter? If not, I am afraid you will be wasting your time. If they have, make a draft article by clicking on Help:Userspace draft and filling in the title. Read WP:Your first article for advice. When it is ready, show it to the deleting administrator, RHaworth. If he does not agree, you can go to WP:Deletion review, but you will do better there if you have a draft with good references. JohnCD (talk) 23:24, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you Sir, Author & Poet Sandip Goswami has four books and these was published by Nandanik, 10/2 A Temar lane, Kolkata - 700009 , Mobile -9831366530 ,908848751 ( Publisher- Mr. Sanjay Bhadro ). His books are available on Kolkata international book fair. Many editorials of The Anandabazar Patrika were published on basis of his book " Hundred Inflaming and way " but ignored his name. His assisted and introduced book " Nadiar Natyachacha : sekal- ekal " was published on many news papers like The Anandabazar patrika, The Aajkal , The Sangbad Protidin , The Ananayudh , The Ganoshakti etc with critics view. I don't understand your advice clearly. Yours Faithfully. Sagnik Goswami --Sagnik Goswami (talk) 20:35, 29 January 2014 (UTC)Sagnik Goswami
- Please read WP:AUTHOR. I summarize the relevant criteria below:
- The sorts of sources we want are ones written by people independent of Sandip Goswami. That is, not Sandip Goswami's writings, nor those of his relatives or business associates are acceptable. A colleague's publication is probably not sufficient.
- The sources discussing Sandip Goswami must contain significant discussion of him. I would suggest that an academic publication with less than 5 paragraphs on Sandip Goswami is not good enough, and a news or magazine article with less than 7-10 paragraphs on Sandip Goswami is not good enough.
- There must be more than one such source, and more than two is preferred, each of which meet the criteria I suggest above.
- You need to actually give us citations to those sources that allow us to find the exact publication. I suggest the title of the article discussing Sandip Goswami, author of the article, year of publication, publisher, and location of publication at a minimum. If it's a web source, a link is needed. Non-English sources are acceptable, but you must provide citations.
- We will not contact Sandip Goswami's publisher for this information, nor will we search for it ourselves; you must provide it. We have no problem in assisting in writing or formatting but you must yourself demonstrate Sandip Goswami's notability before anybody will be willing to assist you.
- I hope this helps explain the guidelines better. If sufficient sources meeting these criteria do not exist, then I suggest that it is not yet time for Sandip Goswami to be covered by Wikipedia. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 02:07, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Recent MFD
Hi JohnCD,
I have been in discussion with this user User:Sportfan5000 concerning their User Page. I attempted XFD via TW but found that the page had already been considered [26]. I believe that the wrong rationle was put forward. Under the heading for WP:UP#COPIES - Pages that look like articles, copy pages, project pages, the current User Page design imitates a Category/List structure, with prominent Wikilink to Category:Transgender and transsexual people. I suggested removing any appearance of being project space by altering the heading and getting rid of the titular blue link. The user thinks it is fine, but I'm not so sure. Per WP:DRV, any objections to this being reconsidered under WP:UP#COPIES? It is a misleading UP and, IMO, inappropriate for a user's front page. Leaky Caldron 16:27, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I'd add my concern that there are now many names on that page that do not have WP articles, and these could certainly be construed as BLP violations for being added to a list on which they may not belong. --| Uncle Milty | talk | 17:51, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
- The consensus of the MfD was clear, but by all means take to WP:DRV. JohnCD (talk) 17:54, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
- I certainly thought they were BLP violations at the time, for the reason Uncle Milty mentions. But JohnCD was right - the consensus at the time was against me. StAnselm (talk) 10:57, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
- John, in the MFD close you made a particular point of noting that the contentious material had been moved from User Page to a sub-page, thus getting it out of vision to anyone passing by the subject's landing page. They have subsequently created a redirect back to the landing page. That seems, at first glance, an intentional snub to the justification for the close to keep as a sub-page. Leaky Caldron 11:05, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
- The redirect was not created subsequently, it was left by the move which took place during the MfD discussion, so the situation has not changed from what it was at the close. That being so, I do not see anything requiring admin action. The consensus at the MfD was clear, though I did find it rather surprising; you are very welcome to take it to DRV. Sydney Alliance - deletion?

- Your request was replied to the same day at WP:REFUND#Sydney Alliance, saying that your draft Articles for Creation submission at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Sydney Alliance has been undeleted for you to work on; read the advice in my reply for what you need to do. When it is ready, click on the "Submit your draft" link at the bottom of the "Draft article not currently submitted for review" box at the top of the page. JohnCD (talk) 22:54, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
I am a bit confused by your close. I decided to add the murder article to the AFD after 45 minutes, not "mid-way", notified everyone who had commented up to that point (and they all agreed to delete both articles). If you think that deleting Murder of Nicholas Candy per the delete consensus in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Richard Keech is against any rules (I can't see any), would you please nominate it for deletion again so it can be judged on its own? Or should I start a WP:DRV? Thank you for any help, —Kusma (t·c) 15:45, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- I admit I didn't see how soon you had added the murder article, and might have included it if I had; but one of the later contributors said that the murder should be decided on its own merits. DRV on the murder would certainly say, list it; I planned to do that if no-one else did, but I see it is already at its own AfD. JohnCD (talk) 23:41, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- That contributor was, by the way, the original author of the murder article (under a different username). I am pretty sure the murder article should have a redirect with the murderer's name to it, so I thought the articles are best taken care of together. Anyway, it looks like not deleting yesterday isn't going to make much difference for the future. Happy editing, —Kusma (t·c) 19:32, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi JohnCD, I was hoping that you would consider un-protecting Timothy Ball now that I have added more reliable sources to the version in my userspace. Then (if you do) I will be able to move my draft into article space, now that his notability seems to have been established. Thanks, Jinkinson talk to me 19:16, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
- @Jinkinson: I would prefer that you check it out with HJ Mitchell (talk), whose close of Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2011 January 3 explicitly said he would "be happy to review such drafts and consider moving them to mainspace." I will do that tomorrow (23:00 here) if you haven't got anywhere with NW. JohnCD (talk) 23:03, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

Redirects
It seems you deleted Super Bowl LIV in light of the 2010 discussion. Don't worry, I will wait until the current discussion on SB LIII is over. No hard feelings. Presbitow (talk) 09:31, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- @Presbitow: the RfD was four years ago, so we can certainly have another discussion, but the principles are the same: (a) Wikipedia is for reliably sourced facts, not rumours and speculation, (b) we shouldn't have a redirect to a target article which says nothing about the subject. A red-link says to the enquirer: "Sorry, Wikipedia has no information about this". For the 2020 Super Bowl, six years away, that is the right message. A redirect gives a blue-link which says "Click here to find out about it", and so is not appropriate when the reader will search around the target article but not find anything relevant. Refresh of Sotera Defense Solutions Wikipedia Listing
John -
The Wikipedia listing for Sotera Defense Solutions (http://soteradefense.com/) was deleted at the end of December 2013. Reviewing the message on the topic which I was recently forwarded, there are many possible reasons for this deletion. Personally, after I reviewed what was on our listing, I process the deletion as valid due to stale / dated content. I do not believe the content violated any of the Wikipedia guidelines.
I recently joined Sotera Defense Solutions as the Chief Administrative Officer. In that capacity, I would like to work with you to refresh the content on Wikipedia for Sotera and renew out posting. I look forward to hearing from you regarding the acceptability of that action.
184.182.182.194 (talk) 13:37, 17 February 2014 (UTC) Matt Talbot Chief Administrative Officer Sotera Defense Solutions, Inc. 2121 Cooperative Way, Suite 400 Herndon, VA 20171 P:703-230-8257 matt.talbot@soteradefense.com
- Although we do not make it as clear as we should to new users, Wikipedia is not a place for companies, or people, to tell the world about themselves. Editing about oneself or ones own company is strongly discouraged because of the WP:Conflict of interest involved. The Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide will tell you more about this, and User:JohnCD/Not a noticeboard has some more background.
- Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a business listing directory. It does not expect or want to have articles about every company that exists. The test for inclusion is called Wikipedia:Notability and is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about? See WP:Notability (summary) and WP:CORP.
- That is quite a demanding test and many perfectly worthy companies cannot pass it, which is not at all to their discredit but means they are not suitable subjects for a global encyclopedia.
- Your company's article was written by user Lpmarcoms (talk) who correctly declared himself as Director of Communications for SDS and, also correctly, submitted the article by the WP:Articles for creation system. It was accepted by another editor, but was later challenged (as a result of recent large-scale spamming efforts, Wikipedia is becoming less permissive about company articles) and submitted for a deletion review at WP:Articles for deletion/Sotera Defense Solutions where the consensus was that it should be deleted.
- As the administrator who closed that discussion, I see no reason to change my decision. You may appeal it at WP:Deletion review, and I will help if you want to do that. It is more likely to be successful if you can show an improved draft, and if you wish, and register an account (which is easy and free), I will "userfy" the page - move it into a sub-page in your "user space" where you can work on it.
- Regards, JohnCD (talk) 22:42, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Undeletion request: User:Rudra john cena
Would you be willing to undelete User:Rudra john cena and blank the page instead? This was deleted as a U1, but I think that given that user's recent admitted sockpuppetry there is a valid administrative justification for keeping the history available for possible linkage in a SPI. If you think it would be more considerate to the user, you could restore it and move it to somewhere in my user space. VQuakr (talk) 02:33, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not really happy to do that, as there was personal information in there. If it's needed for an SPI, I or any other admin can undelete it or say what was in it. JohnCD (talk) 23:01, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
FairFX
Hi John, I've restarted a FairFX page... please see below for reference: - :— Preceding unsigned comment added by Reubenarmstrong123 (talk • contribs) 09:31, 18 February 2014
- (draft article removed - this is not the place for it.)
- After this has been deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/FairFX you cannot just re-create it. You can ask me as the administrator who closed the AfD discussion, but I do not consider you have overcome the reasons for deletion given there. You may appeal to WP:Deletion review, but you would do better there if you first make a draft in your user space (click on Help:Userspace draft and fill in the title to start) which shows references to significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources. JohnCD (talk) 23:05, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
I just discovered this article was deleted. I was a bit surprised as I didn't get any notification that it was being considered for deletion. The nominator did not leave a message on my talk page as WP:PROD says they should have (I am an active editor).
- The article's creator or other significant contributors should ideally be left a message at their talk page(s) informing them of the proposed article deletion, except for cases where contributors are no longer regarded as active editors on Wikipedia.
Had I been aware of the deletion proposal, I would have pointed out that I created it because the Hope Island Resort Tennis Centre hosted a number of international tennis events, some of which link to the now-deleted article, see:
https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/Hope_Island_Resort_Tennis_Centre
I am not a tennis fan but I presume notability for a tennis centre derives from hosting important competitions. And it certainly comes up in Google searches (even if you ignore the entries that are copied from Wikipedia).
What do I have to do to get the article restored? And can I please have the content back in my userspace in the meantime please. Thanks Kerry (talk) 00:46, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- @Kerry Raymond: Done. Articles deleted by PROD are automatically restored on request, but I will notify user Shiftchange (talk), who PRODded it, and who may choose to nominate it at WP:Articles for deletion, which would start a debate lasting seven days, to which you would be welcome to contribute. I will also remind him that he should have notified you. Mind you, I am not surprised at the nomination: the article just says it is a tennis venue and gives a single source with a very glancing reference to it. WP:Notability requires evidence of "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." The article says nothing about significant tournaments hosted there, but they should enable you to find coverage, though it would need to say something about the tennis centre, not just mention it as the location - see WP:Notability (summary). JohnCD (talk) 22:54, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks. 23:14, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
Undeletion of afc article
Hi, I'm contacting you regarding the undeletion of the AFC article "Manosphere". I believe this page should have remained deleted because the references are blogs and that the entire article is written completely as npov. I am concerned because I believe this page is being used to further an agenda as it is on the second page for Google results (specifically titled "Manosphere, you ask") when searching for this slang term and is npov. If the page is to be kept it needs to reflect the handful of references to this slang term and be rewritten from the ground up (ok it's at wiktionary) What do you think would be a good suggestion for this? Maybe rewrite the article...? Thanks in advance, Turn685 (talk) 05:33, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- When G13 was proposed as a way of clearing out abandoned AfCs there was considerable resistance, and the eventual deal was that they would be undeleted without question unless they were blatant spam, copyvios or attack pages. I am rather surprised that AfC pages are not NOINDEXed, and I will take that general question up, but I don't think this particular one is really a concern - if anyone clicks through to it, the large template at the top makes clear that it is not an accepted, or acceptable, article. VisualEditor Newsletter—February 2014
Since the last newsletter, the VisualEditor team has worked on some small changes to the user interface, such as moving the reference item to the top of the Insert menu, as well as some minor features and fixing bugs, especially for rich copying and pasting of references.
The biggest change was the addition of more features to the image dialog, including the ability to set alignment (left, right, center), framing options (thumbnail, frame, frameless, and none), adding alt text, and defining the size manually. There is still some work to be done here, including a quick way to set the default size.
- The main priority is redesigning the reference dialog, with the goal of providing autofill features for ISBNs and URLs and streamlining the process. Current concept drawings are available at mw:VisualEditor/Design/Reference Dialog. Please share your ideas about making referencing quick and easy with the designers.
- A few bugs in the existing reference dialog were fixed. The toolbar was simplified to remove galleries and lists from the reference dialog. When you re-use references, it now correctly displays the references again, rather than just the number and name. If you paste content into a dialog that can't fit there (e.g.
==section headings==
in references), it now strips out the inappropriate HTML. - You can now edit image galleries inside VisualEditor. At this time, the gallery tool is a very limited option that gives you access to the wikitext. It will see significant improvements at a later date.
- The character inserter tool in the "Insert" menu is being redesigned. Your feedback on the special character inserter is still wanted, especially if you depend on Wikipedia's character inserters for your normal editing rather than using the ones built into your computer.
- You can now see a help page about keyboard shortcuts in the page menu (three bars next to the Cancel button) (T54844).
- If you edit categories, your changes will now display correctly after saving the page (T50560).
- Saving the page should be faster now (T61660).
- Any community can ask to test a new tool to edit TemplateData by leaving a note at T53734.
Looking ahead: The link tool will tell you when you're linking to a disambiguation or redirect page. The warning about wikitext will hide itself after you remove the wikitext markup in that paragraph. Support for creating and editing redirects is in the pipeline. Looking further out, image handling will be improved, including default and upright sizes. The developers are also working on support for viewing and editing hidden HTML comments, some behavioral magic words like DISPLAYTITLE, and in-line language setting (dir="rtl"
).
If you have questions or suggestions for future improvements, or if you encounter problems, please let everyone know by posting a note at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you! Whatamidoing (WMF) 04:21, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
David Langer: big wave surfer
Hello John,
I am David Langer's agent, he is a professional big wave tow-in surfer who is recognized as one of the prominent athletes in this sport.
Apparently, a previous attempt to create a page for him was denied, I tried creating a second page today; however, I'm not sure it was successful.
Please advise on what i should do from here, Scott

- The article David Langer that I deleted recently was about "an English Internet entrepreneur best known for co-founding GroupSpaces", so I don't think that is your man. As you are his agent, you have from Wikipedia's point of view a conflict of interest and should not edit about him directly, but may propose a draft. I will give more detailed advice on your user talk page tomorrow, but meanwhile, read

- I do not see how this can ever become a page in the English Wikipedia, for two reasons: (a) it is written in Spanish, and (b) it is an advertisement, the language school talking to potential pupils, written in the first person: "¿Qué objetivos buscamos? ... Nuestra metodología particular... " and using promotional terms: "Nuestra innovadora web... lo mejor de la tecnología... Innovación y creatividad... " Nothing like that is acceptable in Wikipedia, which is not for advertising or promotion of any kind. JohnCD (talk) 23:15, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi,
I'm Mark, the Marketing Co-Ordinator for Impro Melbourne - http://www.impromelbourne.com.au - a theatre company in Melbourne, Australia.
While attempting to access our company's Wikipedia page, I found it had been deleted - https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Impro_Melbourne
Is there a way to restore this page?
Cheers, Mark — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mark Gambino (talk • contribs) 05:14, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
- It was deleted by a process called Proposed deletion, the rules of which mean that it is automatically undeleted on request, so I have restored the article Impro Melbourne. I have also notified user Shiftchange (talk), who proposed it, and who may choose to nominate at WP:Articles for deletion, a more deliberate process involving a discussion, normally lasting seven days, to which you would be welcome to contribute. What the article needs is references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" to establish WP:Notability. As you are connected with the organization, you have from Wikipedia's point of view a WP:Conflict of interest in writing about it, so read the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. More advice on your user talk page, but maybe not until tomorrow. JohnCD (talk) 22:46, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, JohnCD. My interest in editing the page is to ensure it is an accurate reflection of current state of the company. I'll compile some independent coverage on the company and look to make changes to bring it into WIkipedia guidelines ASAP. KottNet
Hello John, Please can I see contents of the page you deleted about KottNet on the 20th March 2010? Helena Bolan 13:47, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
- @HelenaKitty: the entire content was "KottNet is an IRC network for all kind of channels. It runs UnrealIRCd and was founded by Kottizen. Euthenology
Hey,
I am Jahmon A. Highbaugh Sr. and I have created Euthenology and had come by this site to place it here and noticed it was not here! Could somebody tell me what is going on with the work I created as a form of information to the public to which it serves? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.250.21.33 (talk) 19:52, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
- The short answer is that the article was deleted because it said "can not be used, duplicated, or copyrighted without express legal written consent", but that restriction is not acceptable: everything published in Wikipedia must be released under the CC-BY-SA license which permits any reader to copy, modify and re-use for any purpose including commercial. But even if a formal copyright release were made, it would still be unacceptable because of Wikipedia's WP:No original research policy: this is not a place for people to publish their own new ideas.
- I have already explained all this, two years ago, to user Jahmon Highbaugh (talk). I presume that is you. The detailed explanations are at:

Free Video Dub and Free Video Call Recorder for Skype deletion
Gyppsi (talk) 11:32, 27 February 2014 (UTC) Hello John, While attempting to access Wikipedia page about Free Video Dub https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Free_Video_Dub&action=edit&redlink=1 and Free Video Call Recorder for Skype https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Free_Video_Call_Recorder_for_Skype&action=edit&redlink=1, I found it had been deleted. I read the discussion about it, but still not sure if it was right thing to do. As far as I can see it was somehow connected with promotion characteristic. In my opinion it was informative and I also tried to improve some content about it. Since this article was important for my educational project It would be great if you returned it. You can find a lot information from reliable sources that prove Free Video Dub and Free Video Call Recorder for Skype being notable software (f.e. http://geekermagazine.com/top-10-best-free-video-editing-softwares №7, http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/software/3436857/free-video-call-recorder-for-skype-review/ and other)
- The discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Free Video Dub was unanimous that these are not suitable article subjects, and I do not see any reason to change my decision. You may appeal it, if you wish, to WP:Deletion review. Worries about promotion were caused, not so much by the article itself, as by the template which suggested an intention to create articles for every one of the company's fifty-odd products. Wikipedia is not here to provide that sort of exposure: a better solution would be a somewhat-expanded article about the company, linking to their website where all the products are no doubt listed. On deletion of article titled Indira Paryavaran Bhawan
Hello JohnCD ,
I see that you have deleted the page titled "Indira Paryavaran Bhawan" . I was hoping to have little bit extra time , upon which I would have contested the deletion .
I would like to contest the deletion in the following ground .
1. I see that the article has been tagged under G12 2.I am reproducing the copyright info from the page
" COPYRIGHT POLICY
Material featured on this website may be reproduced free of charge and there is no need for any prior approval for using the content. The permission to reproduce this material shall not extend to any third-party material. Authorisation to reproduce such material must be obtained from the departments/copyright holders concerned. The material must be reproduced accurately and not used in a derogatory manner or in a misleading context. Wherever the material is being published or issued to others, the source must be prominently acknowledged. "
3. There is also explanation present here .
Even after this , If you feel that article needs to be deleted , I value your admin rights .
Commons sibi (talk) 11:54, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
- @Commons sibi: it seems to me that "The material must be reproduced accurately" is too restrictive for CC-BY-SA, which explicitly permits making "derivative works", i.e. modification. That's an interesting discussion on Commons, but they don't seem convinced, either. I will ask WP's principal copyright expert.
- But even apart from the copyright issue, just copying a press release verbatim is unlikely to make a satisfactory article. The notability requirement is for evidence of "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." If there is other coverage, I would suggest writing an article in your own words, linking to the press release for the detail. JohnCD (talk) 22:37, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
@JohnCD , Thank you for the explanation . Couple of points.
- My view on the discussion is that , they were worried about using the images from the site . But , yes . I accept that , "The material must be reproduced accurately" is too restrictive .
- Before I could even start adding secondary sources and clean up the article , the article was gone . Is there any possibility that the deletion would be revoked so that I can make the necessary edits , or a new page has to be started ? I have done my homework properly this time and would take additional care in citing the secondary sources .
Thank you . Commons sibi (talk) 02:47, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- I don't like to restore a possible copyvio, even temporarily, but I have emailed the text to you. JohnCD (talk) 09:12, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

"Jeff Nicholson" page deleted
Hi JohnCD,
I have not been logged in for a few months so have missed the opportunity to participate in the discussion to delete this page. Can you return the page to sandbox so I can try some better references (bibliographic and biographic comics sites)? I can also try print references (reviews/interviews) to support this WP: ARTIST tenant: "3.The person has created... a significant or well-known work... that has been the subject of... multiple independent periodical articles or reviews" unless all references need be web links. This gets a little circular sometimes when historic print-based material hasn't been established on the web to the extent it did in the print era.
A few questions on some of the comments from the deletion debate if you have time for this...
"This is a CV" means Copyright Violation? Maybe this is the circular issue if I'm paraphrasing the web sources too much. "As books, they have holdings in the mid 20s for the various titles" I don't understand this comment. "No awards, just nominations" Not sure why six nominations would not constitute notoriety? Will Eisner awards are substantial even as nominations.

Mosh News
Hi John,
I hope you're well.
I'm the founder of Mosh News, which had it's Wikipedia page deleted recently. Mosh News is run solely by me, a nineteen year old based in Hull, United Kingdom. I was just about to update the page today with a reference to the MTV appearance I have just had when I noticed the deletion and wondered whether we are able to discuss about potentially reopening the page? I understand you have a duty, and I appreciate you approachability where you mention you are open for considering the reinstatement of Wikipedia pages.
Since I'm only starting out in business, I of course don't have that many reference outside of the Hull (UK) area which I feel may be one of the reasons it was deleted -- however in recent events I appeared on MTV's Being Farrah when I did an interview with Farrah Abraham for her TV show, and MTV kindly placed the following text alongside the video footage filmed by MTV: "Kallum - Mosh News Founder" - which would reenforce the Mosh News brand and show that I am the founder of Mosh News.
Over the next year I will have plenty of new references to add to the page that verify things placed on the page.
I hope you understand, and I do hope we can resolve things with the page.
Thanks,

John,
Hello. My name is Levi Davis and I am the owner/creator of the Talarius Gaming System. I have found that you deleted the page Talarius Gaming System, where you stated "This looks like an utterly non-notable gaming system for a game that I think sank like a stone." and had the page deleted. I actually use this page to tell more people about the gaming system. As for it being an utterly non-notable gaming system that has sunk like a stone, that is a matter of opinion. I am a grass roots low-local gaming company that has been selling and playing this game system for over 12 years. I would appreciate it if you would be so kind as to restore the page. I was alerted that the page had been deleted by a number of consumers that have purchased the game.
Kind Regards
Levi Davis

- Those were not actually my words, but those of the user who proposed the article for a deletion, by a process where if no objection is raised in seven days the article goes. An article deleted that way restored on request, so I have done that at Talarius gaming system. However, it is likely that it may be nominated again by a more deliberate process (WP:Articles for deletion), which would start a debate lsting seven days, to which you would be welcome to contribute.
- The reason is that, though you "actually use this page to tell more people about the gaming system", that is not what Wikipedia is for. As an encyclopedia, it is quite selective about subjects for articles. The inclusion criterion is called Wikipedia:Notability and is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about?
- As the system's owner/creator you have, from Wikipedia's point of view, a WP:Conflict of interest (see also the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide) and so should not edit its article directly; but you are welcome to add to its talk page any references showing significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources, and to comment if it is nominated for deletion. Findlay First Edition Show Choir
Hi there,
I noticed you removed earlier this year the Findlay First Edition Show Choir page (from Findlay High School). Do you mind providing guidance why you deleted it? I'm on college spring break, and have time to update it to bring it back up to Wikipedia standards as I last recall it having some issues. I've been wanting to fix it for months (I think it was deleted in January), but I have time now to get it back online and take care of it.
Please let me know when you get the chance.

- For the reasons why it was deleted, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Findlay First Edition Show Choir. I will try to reply in more detail on your talk page tomorrow; meanwhile, read WP:Notability, WP:Notability (summary) and, if you are connected with the choir, the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. Also, consider this statement, which if I had my way would be written in letters of fire on the user sign-up page: an encyclopedia is not a place for people or organizations to tell the world about themselves. Jeff Nicholson deleted page
JohnCD, thanks much for the notes.
I made some updates to the page: Striving for some content that is less CV, more about notability, and many more references. I put those up front. As for the COI, I have to cop to that. I am a bit of a natural librarian and archivist, and was hoping Wiki was a place to pull lots of disparate info that is out there into one summary, but I am understanding the COI and AP: Artist tenants a little better now.
Can you check out the updates/revised page and guide me on next steps? User:Ultra Klutz Jr./Jeff Nicholson I would prefer you reinstate it on its merit. If not, could I seek a sponsor editor myself (which still might seem COI in doing so), or do you on the Wiki side have a neutral volunteer who may take this on as editor? I wish to communicate openly and I appreciate your time.
One more question to consider: Does your Worldcat checks for library holdings consider digital holdings in addition to physical holdings? The majority of these 1,500 comics pages have a substantial presence in libraries via Alexander Street Press in their UNDERGROUND, INDEPENDENT COMICS, COMIX, AND GRAPHIC NOVELS digital collection.
Thanks!

- @Ultra Klutz Jr.: that looks much better. There are groups of editors interested in particular subjects, known as WikiProjects, one of which is WP:WikiProject Comics, and I have posted a message on their talk page at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Comics#Jeff Nicholson which I hope will attract people to help you. A barnstar for you!

For removing copyvio, even when posted in Arabic! Kyle(talk) 19:40, 12 March 2014 (UTC) |
- Thank you, but all I did was pull the trigger: the credit belongs to Largoplazo, who had the imagination to translate the Arabic, suspect copyvio, and track down the source. JohnCD (talk)
- Noted. Barn-stars for everyone then. Kyle(talk) 22:40, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
WP:NAY
Thanks for linking that! A good page I've never come across before.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:03, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- @Fuhghettaboutit: yes, it's good. We could do with some more pages that put the basics in simple terms. WP:42 and WP:Copy-paste are the only others I can think of. User:JohnCD/Not a noticeboard is an attempt at another, but I have never been happy enough with it to propose it as an essay. JohnCD (talk) 23:09, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
Thanks
