Barnstar!

The Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
Thanks for your swift action against vandalism on the Template:2020 Democratic Party presidential primaries infobox. I’ve been working to undo vandalism on pages related to the election, and it can sometimes feel like an uphill battle. We need all the help we can get! Tartan357 (talk) 23:50, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

Bug or coincidence?

Did you edit the 2020 Green Party presidential primaries to change a section close tag from withdrawn to withdrew? I'm only asking because I had added a couple close brackets and made that change as well, so I was/am very confused about the edit history. I'm just hoping it's a coincidence that we made the same edit at the same time (and I either just didn't hit publish, or closed the window before I realized there was an edit conflict), and not that somehow an edit that I made (that you might know nothing about) somehow shows as you having made it. Orville1974 (talk) 05:09, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

I was on the 2020 United States presidential election article and saw there was an issue with the Green Party section so that instead of just the candidates being transcluded from the 2020 Green Party presidential primaries article, the candidates, debates, timeline, and perhaps the rest of the article were all being included on the the 2020 U.S. presidential election page. I noticed this, went to the Green Party primary article, and saw that the the section start tag said withdrew while the section close tag said withdrawn, so I switched it to match. If you were making that same exact edit at the same exact time then that is quite funny lol. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 06:27, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
Haha, I was, in response to a request on the WP:HD by another editor trying to get the 2020 Presidential article to look right. I hopped over to the Presidential article, took a look under the hood, made a few tweaks, realized the issue, popped open a new window to edit the Green party article, and thought I saved my changes. So I was very confused when I went back to the Green Party history and didn't see my edit, even though the problem was fixed. Then I saw the most recent edit was exactly what I did, but it was your name, and panicked a little, thinking there might be a bug (with horrible implications). So I am very happy (and relieved) that WP is attributing edits correctly. Whew. Thank you! Orville1974 (talk) 07:09, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
No worries! { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 07:40, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

you are using spoilers wrong. What you describes on The Bachelorette (season 15) are not spoilers at all, they pure unconfirmed speculations (see WP:NOTCRYSTALBALL). Wikipedia contains spoilers, but speculations are not permitted on Wikipedia. — YoungForever(talk) 20:54, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

About Sofía Aragón

Hi Sofía request me to edit his info, the changes that i have made in her page are the information that she give me, i dont know much about wikipedia editors usage, could you please help me? thank you

That is not allowed on Wikipedia. Ms. Aragón cannot play a part in editing her article as this violates WP:COI, and you also cannot edit if you were instructed by her to. Additionally, every piece of information added on Wikipedia must be contributed to a published reliable source, which you cited none of. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 19:19, 26 July 2019 (UTC)

Anton Vaino and state of birth

Given that Anton Vaino is a Russian diplomat and civil servant, it does seem important that his article mentions that he was born in the predecessor state to the state he now serves. Although Estonia continued to de iure exist, the de facto regime, that is, Soviet Union, was not only firmly in place, but Vaino's grandfather was Estonia's communist leader at around the time Vaino was born (!!). Obscuring this fact for legal matters makes the article prone to misunderstanding by someone not familiar with the topic. (Such as, why would someone from a Western style democracy, which one learns after clicking the link that Estonia is, "defect" to Russia? If you want to popularise the fact that Estonian SSR was not legally recognized, then it's the article on Estonian SSR that details that, not the article on Estonia.) Eykeklos Omnia (talk) 15:01, 28 July 2019 (UTC)

This is not a conversation for here. It is WikiProject Estonia policy, and I am just going along with what the WikiProject prefers. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 14:55, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
Technically speaking, the Anton Vaino article shouldn't even be in the Estonia project, since he is a Russian civil servant. Anyway, díky za péči o Wikipedii, pěknou neděli! Eykeklos Omnia (talk) 15:01, 28 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Hispanic and Latino Americans, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Antonio Delgado (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Camila and her mother were both born in Cuba; but, her mom marry Alejandro who's from Mexico. Camila and her mother are Cubans. That edit and explanation makes nonsense. EditorsHelp101 (talk) 18:55, 10 August 2019 (UTC)

People keep editing her "personal life" section and making it look like a gossip section. Hi. I have reverted your edit (https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Kevin_Lilliana&oldid=922240390) because you have deleted that she is Chinese-Indonesian, not Indonesian as is. Her parents are Chinese immigrants. Thus, she is Chinese-Indonesian. These are duly provided with sources and references. You also tagged your edit as "minor fixes" yet you have changed her nationality, without providing sources and references to refute the already established one backed with sources and references? Does that constitute only a "minor" edit?

I agree with some of your edits, but not on this one. And certainly I don't agree with your edit tagged as "minor" when you changed her nationality without any reason and further references, from the already duly established one backed by sources and references.

I acknowledge that you have been quite a seasoned contributor on Wikipedia, thus I am quite puzzled why you right away changed an already established information backed with sources and references, an important detail such as nationality, and then tag it as "minor fix?"

Bizarre and quite puzzling. Certainly not a "minor fix."

Migsmigss (talk) 23:44, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

@Migsmigss: Please understand that nationality and ethnicity are not the same thing. The lede should not include their ethnicity unless they are notable for something having to do with that specific ethnic group (Section 3 of lead section in a biography: Context (location or nationality)not ethnicity, Indonesian is Lilliana's nationality, Chinese is her ethnicity). To give you an example, Selena Gomez is an American musician, she just happens to be of Mexican descent. She is not a Mexican-American musician because her contributions to music have not had anything to do with her Mexican ancestry, and she does not have an established career specifically in Mexico. It is the same thing with Lilliana. She is an Indonesian of Chinese descent. Her modeling/pageant career has nothing to do with her Chinese ancestry, and she does not have an established career specifically in China. Her Chinese heritage should be referenced in the article, but not as her nationality. I hope this helps your confusion. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 23:52, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for replying, Jjj1238. I take your reply but it does not resolve the issue, which you have commenced. Her nationality, as defined by jus sanguinis and her birthplace, is Chinese-Indonesian, not simply Indonesian. The sources and references provided also support said information. Now:

1. You have tagged your edit as "minor fix" but you right away deleted information on nationality, an important detail on any Wikipedia page/article on people, without any valid reason and/or any credible sources/references to support your action, and refute the previously provided information backed by legitimate sources and references? Please explain.

2. Besides deleting the nationality, you tagged your specific edit as "minor fix" but you did not indicate that it is a minor edit. There is a confusion there. Which is it? Why describe it as "minor fix" when you did not tag it as "minor edit;" otherwise, if you wanted to tag it as minor edit, why described it (redundantly) as "minor fix" -- but well, it wouldn't be minor in my opinion since again, you deleted and changed the subject's nationality without any valid reason backed by sources and references to refute the previously already established information?

3. Why not "Chinese-Indonesian" when we allow other people who have careers in one specific country or region to be established, for example, as "Spanish-Filipino" Enrique Iglesias, or "Timothee Chalamet" who is French-American (still a debate over there), and other subjects of note?

If this is the case, then should we require more sources/references on the legitimate nationalities of subjects, for example their birth certificates, passport(s), etc?

4 Following this, should we establish a difference between, for example, a. French-American and b. of both French and American citizenship?

For example, Catriona Gray, she is established to be "Filipino-Australian," should we then be more specific and establish that she is of dual Filipino and Australian citizenship? We can do that. I think it would be more specific. As, even the definition of "Filipino-Australian" on Wikipedia does not describe Catriona:

"Filipino Australians (Filipino: Pilipino-Australyano) are Australians of Filipino ancestry. Filipino-Australians are the fifth-largest subgroup of the Overseas Filipinos. According to the 2016 census, there are over 232,386 Filipino Australians."

They can be interpreted as Australians who live in Australia but can be full Filipino in ancestry, which is not Catriona, of course.

5. Thus, coming from these discussions, should we, finally, be more specific and include nationality or nationalities, and ethnicity or ethnicities?

Thanks.Migsmigss (talk) 00:07, 21 October 2019 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Helena Meraai

Hello, Jjj1238

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Onel5969 and it's nice to meet you :-)

I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Helena Meraai, should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Helena Meraai.

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not ballot-polls. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Jae-yoon Lee

Help me, User:MigsMigss have accuse me of vandalism for the Jae-yoon Lee article. User: MigsMigss have restored Category:Canadian Male actors and Category:South Korean Male actors because they are both container categories and Container categories cannot be used for articles only subcategories. I did explain my edit and User:MigsMigss have restored them and my explanation is invalid. The user has warned me for a possible block. I know I am not making vandalism nor my disruptive edits. So could go to article titled Jae-yoon Lee and restore my edit to my version and talk to User:MigsMigss to please do not use Category:Canadian Male actors and Category:South Korean Male actors because they are both container categories but not for articles. Talk to User:MigsMigss for more details on container categories. Thanks. 2001:569:7C07:2600:34C3:F496:71FB:7EC3 (talk) 08:52, 5 November 2019 (UTC)

This has been resolved. The edits are there. Please provide description for your non-minor edits, or tag them as minor if you think they are minor. You have also made changes to my talk page [here] and reverted my edits on my own talk page [here], when I already told you that I have moved our discussion, more aptly, to the Lee Jae-yoon talk page [here].

Your edits are welcome but please observe propriety and respectful practices in contributing. You have also asked for this user's help, but can't reply amiably to our discussion? What is it that you want to achieve? I have responded to you in a well-meaning manner and have understood your points, but continue with these unnecessary actions, like not resolving the issue directly with me and instead resorting to discussing it on another user's talk page, and I will deem it unacceptable and an attack on my right as contributor and editor. Discuss and resolve things with me properly, as the editorial issue is between us. Thanks.

Also, I am not quite sure how to proceed with his, but as I've looked into this contributor, users [23.16.167.50] and [2001:569:7c07:2600:34c3:f496:71fb:7ec3] as shown on the article's [Edit history] may likely be one and the same, as they have both responded to my edit queries, like one single person? Should we look into this as possible sock puppetry? I am quite unsure how to proceed.

Thanks.

They are now adding Antigua & Barbuda and Bonaire to the list of delegates with no sources. I tried undoing the edits, but she keeps reverting them back. This user has vandalized the page numerous times. Perhaps they need to be blocked? You know better than I do of what should be done. Thanks. Rahu22 (talk) 20:09, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

@Rahu22: Have you warned them? I recommend you begin using Twinkle. It will allow you to send users prewritten warnings with just the click of a button. Every time this user vandalizes the page, send them a higher level warning (I believe there are five levels, and I already gave them a level one warning a few days ago), once they vandalize the article past the final warning, I would submit a report to the administrators' noticeboard so administrators can look at the case. If the user has been committing vandalism and continued after the final warning, they will likely be blocked by an admin. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 20:32, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
@Jjj1238: They won't heed any warnings. It's not worth it. I'm actually considering leaving Wikipedia, as it's just becoming too stressful for me. I trust that you and the other editors have this well in hand. Thanks anyway. Rahu22 (talk) 20:53, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
@Rahu22: Well if that's your decision I can't stop you, but just saying that if a user doesn't listen to warnings that is what blocking is used for. Most vandals do not listen to warnings, which is when you resort to blocks. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 22:11, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

RESOLVED: December 2019

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize pages by deliberately introducing incorrect information, as you did at Eleni Foureira, you may be blocked from editing. Please provide reliable sources (RS) if you wish to change/edit the nationality and/or citizenship of subjects in articles. Thanks. Migsmigss (talk) 16:16, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

@Migsmigss: Excuse me? Please don't act like you know more about this issue than I do. This page has been protected NUMEROUS times because of Greek nationalist trolls who refuse to accept her as Greek. Foureira has said numerous times she solely sees herself as Greek, and there is a whole section regarding her Greek nationality yet Albanian ethnicity. Not to mention, being born in one country yet raised in another does not mean your nationality will be your birth country for your entire life. Additionally, Wikipedia's sole criteria is not citizenship, especially considering Foureira's career is entirely in Greece and has never existed in Albania. She is a Greek of Albanian descent. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 18:11, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
Per WP:MOS/BIO: Ethnicity, religion, or sexuality should generally not be in the lead unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, previous nationalities or the place of birth should not be mentioned in the lead unless they are relevant to the subject's notability. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 18:18, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
"Excuse me? Please don't act like you know more about this issue than I do." — Wow, such words. You may please refer to the Albanian nationality law:

"Albanian nationality law is based on a mixture of the principles of Jus sanguinis and Jus soli. In other words, both place of birth and Albanian parentage are relevant for determining whether a person is an Albanian citizen."

Also, please respond with propriety. We do not need unnecessary and unbecoming condescension here on Wikipedia. Continue doing so and I would be required to seek escalation on this on your uncivility. Thanks.

Migsmigss (talk) 18:20, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

@Migsmigss: You are ignoring the Wikipedia policy. Albanian nationality law has NOTHING to do with this. Once again, per WP:MOS/BIO: Ethnicity, religion, or sexuality should generally not be in the lead unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, previous nationalities or the place of birth should not be mentioned in the lead unless they are relevant to the subject's notability. Any previous nationalities Foureira may have held are completely irrelevant. She is a Greek singer with her career entirely in Greece. I hope you are aware that right now you are protecting the edits of vandals. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 18:21, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
"Ethnicity, religion, or sexuality..." —Yes, have read and am in agreement. But we are not talking about any of these (ethnicity, religion, or sexuality), but her nationality. She is born in Albania and grew up in Greece, thus she is Greek-Albanian. Who is talking about ethnicity? Not myself. Thanks.

Migsmigss (talk) 18:26, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

@Migsmigss: So would you have preferred it if I left that part out and just included Previous nationalities or the place of birth should not be mentioned in the lead unless they are relevant to the subject's notability? You are blatantly ignoring policy here. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 18:28, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
"Previous nationalities..." —Are there reliable sources that can confirm she did let go of her right as a natural-born Albanian, legally, under international and citizenship laws? Thanks.

Migsmigss (talk) 18:30, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

@Migsmigss: The opening paragraph should usually provide context for the activities that made the person notable. In most modern-day cases this will be the country of which the person is a citizen, national or permanent resident. Please refer to activities that made the person notable and most cases (not all). She is notable for her career in the Greek music industry, is a naturalized Greek citizen, has no connection to the Albanian music industry, and refused to even admit she was born in Albania for years into her career until the press dug it up and exposed her. I'm honestly shocked that you're even debating this issue. As has been said, the article was protected numerous times because of nationalist trolls with numerous seasoned editors having to constantly revert these Albanian edits, and I expect this from them, but you are a Wikipedia editor who I expect to follow policy. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 18:40, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
The clarification is noted, and the edit will be reverted. Again, I am all for open discussion, with propriety and civility, not with such words as "Excuse me? Please don't act like you know more about this issue than I do" which is truly unbecoming of a Wikipedia editor. Thanks.

Migsmigss (talk) 18:45, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

@Migsmigss: Sorry if that was rude, but I don't take kindly to receiving a level three disruptive editing warning from an editor I've worked with before simply because I was undoing vandalism that they didn't realize was vandalism. A simple "hey what was this edit?" would have sufficed fine. I'm happy we could clear this issue up though. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 18:48, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
Noted, and apology accepted. Would also be more cautious in effecting warnings moving forward. I am all for open discussion, and am quite sensitive to nationality and citizenship topics, as I don't want anyone misrepresented, especially those from the minorities. I am always, and all ways, for equality.

All right, enough of my rant. Thank you for clearing this up with me; looking forward to more open-minded discussions and collaborative work in the future. Have a good day.

Starting Wikipedia page aerial artist Tjaša Dobravec

Hello,

I am new on Wikipedia and I am searching somebody that could make the Wikipedia page of my partner, professional aerial artist Tjaša Dobravec. I have already written most of the text and listed up the references, and now I am searching a Wikipedia volunteer that could check and publish it. Can you or do you know somebody that could help me?

Thanks in advance and kind regards from Slovenia, Roel

You appear to have been around long enough to know better than to add an unsourced DOB for a living person with a vague comment in the edit summary about sourcing. Please take WP:BLP much more seriously. Toddst1 (talk) 20:27, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

@Toddst1: As I said, the article did source the birthdate. The URL included in the source was just outdated and needed to be replaced. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 20:31, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
We don't cite our sources by inserting hidden comments in an article. You really should know better and you are expected to be editing better. Consider a this a final warning. Toddst1 (talk) 20:51, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
We also should not put references in infoboxes when the information is readily available elsewhere. I don't appreciate this tone that you are using, please remain civil and respect other editors. You removed a birthdate because you believed it was unsourced but the issue was that the URL was broken (and I fixed it), that is all that happened here. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 21:01, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
