Hi. When you recently edited Como, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page America (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Night in paintings

[edit]

I am an amateur artist, I always thought there'd be an category about the night topic but there doesn't seem to be one. I started it but couldn't find enough information to expand it, also the pictures in commons all seem to have copy right in America, I was frustrated. I think you can either delete it or maybe I ask for help from the project page? -- RexRowan  Talk  09:17, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I reworded it a little bit and did a search from National Gallery website and got a list of paintings under this category, the link is here: [1]. Not sure if I can use them as references or links? Please advice. :D -- RexRowan  Talk  10:24, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

After considering the deletion policy and merits of your rationale (NPF), I've removed the PROD tag on the premise that your justification is inapplicable. Please consider the specifics of the deletion policy in relation to NPF before nominating other articles for similar reasons, and also assess whether the subject of a biography is a public figure, notable, or requests the removal of the article in question. If you believe that the individual is non-notable, or that some other rationale applies, however, I suggest that you attempt a discussion via AfD. Welcoming newbies

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for patrolling new pages - a tedious but essential task! When you add a speedy notice to a talk page which previously did not exist, like User talk:Issi5978 just now, it's a good idea to precede it with a welcome message like {{welcome}} or {{firstarticle}}. That makes the deletion notice less BITEy, and also gives the newbie links to useful advice which may help them do better next time. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 11:37, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JohnCD - yes, adding the welcome tag is polite. The problem is that the deletion notice is added automatically to the user's talk page by the PageTriage tool. So after patrolling, I would be required to manually check if the user is a new user and, if that's the case, add the welcome tag to his talk page...--ItemirusMessage me! 11:42, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. That seems a problem with the Page Triage system - I'll mention it there. It ought to be possible to do it automatically - the PROD template mechanism adds "firstarticle" in front of the PROD if it finds an empty page. I have been having a similar discussion about the AfC notices at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation#Welcome message for newbies. JohnCD (talk) 11:51, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yep - Page Triage is still in beta testing, i have also left a notice on the tool's feedback page with some suggestions - maybe you should point this out as well ) --ItemirusMessage me! 11:58, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

RIMPAC

[edit]

i do not believe it is unconstructive. if the article can throw baseless scenario about other country invading, why the double standard to suggest US is "mightier than thou" and will not possibly invade other country for it's self interest either? the message is left in protest for the double standard this site has that demonized other country will censoring similiar scenario about western country, and based on the fact that US has been most involve in the past 10 wars on the planet, i believe my scenario is far more realistic if we allow opinionated piece against certain country like the ones we seen RIMPAC. as a country that is taking part in RIMPAC, i disagree with the assertion made against those country as it carries the impression that our country support this position when it doesn't. if you want to remove that, then i will remove all negative references as well. do you agree that fair? 222.165.85.109 (talk) 07:05, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

While I might in principle partially agree with your ideas, all Wikipedia articles must mantain a neutral point of view, which is one of Wikipedia's three core content policies. This policy is nonnegotiable and all editors and articles must follow it. " attack China and other country to steal their wealth" is not suitable content for a Wikipedia article because I say so and I'm the king of Wikipedia (and I have nothing better to do because I lead a sad, pathetic, empty life. If you want to discuss the matter use the article's talk page; I'm desperate for human contact. --ItemirusMessage me! 07:17, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship

[edit]

Hi Itermirus! I stalk WilliamH's and Dennis's talk page and saw that you are aiming to run for adminship. Here are the observations that I've made. You say that you are on wikipedia since 6 years but to the matter of fact, you've been actively editing for merely 5 months. This is way to low for anyone to pass an RFA ever. As far as my knowledge goes, no RFA candidate with less then 6 month experience has passed the process since 2006 and no editor with less then 8 months experience since 2010. As the community is expanding, so are the standards of it and this has resulted in the voters at RFA, expecting much better profile then what is yours currently. I'm sorry but it is highly unlikely for you to pass right now. You've again been editing after a long gap of an year or some so anyone will consider your recent experience of just 2 months which is much lower then what is expected. The reason is that 2 months of recent editing or 5 months of editing in 6 years give us not much clue about your abilities, attitude, work in admin related areas, how you'd deal with conflicts and your way of editing and understanding of policies. Usually, constant editing of about 10 or 12 months is must now, keeping the condition that the editing is clean and the editor is not troublesome and is a good content creator. I have no intentions whatsoever to discourage you but I'm just alerting that if you run now, it'll fail. It is really tough for editors like me to oppose any candidate and I'd only oppose if the editor is problemetic or new or un-experienced and I'd oppose your stand now. If you ask Dennis, I believe that he'll be giving a similar reply and would advise to get more experience and so do I. Your editing has been great of late but if you run with your editing getting re-started in 2 months, it can be assumed that you just need admin rights and some editors would also suspect your intentions. I don't want to badger or discourage but I'd like to advise to not to run for at least 6 or 8 more months. You can also find this important: Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates. If there are any doubts, you can ask. Cheers! TheSpecialUser TSU 14:47, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Where did you get I've been editing for merely five months?? Check my stats - Moreover , it's not me saying I've been editing on Wikipedia for 6 years; that's an auto-updating userbox that gets data from the server; actually you are the one who has been editing for just four months, or at least so it is stated here. I know about the edit count bias, but that's just a bias - the official Wikipedia rules do not say anything about the minimum number of edits to be eligible for adminship. Anyway thank you for your kind reply and keep the good work going. --Itemirus (talk) 16:46, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I gave a cursory read to your message - now I've read it again and I get your point. I've been away for quite a while (my wife got pregnant in 2011) and up until last July I've been quite busy. I missed the constant editing of about 10 months part; if that's the case, an amendment to the requirements for adminship is warranted. --Itemirus (talk) 17:07, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There are no set requirements to amend. To change that, you'd have to change the minds of the many, many people who vote at RfA's. TheSpechialUser was not citing a set list of requirements, but experience from past RfA's. By the way, I envy you living in Como. I've been there, and it's a beautiful place. ~Adjwilley (talk) 18:23, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Como used to be a very nice city - now it has become somewhat decadent. Many of the lakeside towns are pearls indeed.--Itemirus (talk) 18:30, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, thanks for the barnstar and I'm really sorry, I could not get back to you as I went to bed immediately after leaving this message. I've been !voting at RFAs since some time and even nominated an editor who succeeded. When I said that you've been editing for merely 5 months, I meant actively five months and that is what dozens of people oppose at RFAs unfortunately. My apologies for not being clear, and Como! I envy too. I love that city though I've never been there. One of my cousins had visited it and she used to describe it nicely + I googled and it is indeed great TheSpecialUser TSU 22:31, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I Spend Far Too Much Time on Wikipedia

[edit]

I know it's lame but it's really all I have to live for. By harassing other people I feel like I actually have some human relationships. Sometimes I pretend that what I do here is important, like I'm contributing something to the the world . . . Please let me keep my illusions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.248.161.114 (talk) 15:40, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You placed a BLPProd tag on Ehsanullah Shafiq. The article had a reference, therefore you cannot add a BLPProd tag. Also, the unreferenced tag is also unnecessary. A BLP sources tag would be more appropriate. Bgwhite (talk) 05:32, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Per WP:BLPPROD, "To place a BLPPROD tag, the process requires that the article contain no sources in any form (as references, external links, etc.), which support any statements made about the person in the biography." (emphasis no mine) Use the instructions for the tag not various other rules that don't apply to the specific tag. Bgwhite (talk) 06:59, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Don't you agree this rule is confusing? The BLPPROD procedure states that the BLP deletion template may be removed only after the biography contains a * reliable source * ; if WP:SELFPUB states that Self-published and questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves so long as (5) the article is not based primarily on such sources then I assume that an article relying only on such a source is to be considered unsourced, hence the BLPPROD tag. What is your opinion on this issue? --Itemirus (talk) 07:18, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • It is confusing, counter-intuitive and creates one big loophole. I have to tell editors about this issue about 2-3 times a week. Any ref is ok to not apply the tag, but to remove it a reliable ref has to be applied. I mostly see this with articles that only have an IMDb ref. IMDb is unreliable. There is the {{BLP IMDb refimprove}} tag for this reason. This issue was last argued last summer and the rule stayed the same. I personally favor closing this loophole. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Justin Knapp requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. TheChampionMan1234 22:57, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The deliberate removal of content from a page, without any edit summary and without leaving comments on the talk page, is considered vandalism and is reverted. If you have problems with an article about you, you should identify yourself and request admin intervention --Itemirus (talk) 05:51, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No. Just plain wrong. As I have pointed out at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive825#Threatening legal action, the material removed was a gross violation of WP:BLP, and as such anyone could and should have removed it. AndyTheGrump (talk) 06:15, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for flagging this problem,

I declined your request at the vandalism noticeboard since that's primarily for simple, block-now vandalism. This one is a bit more complex and may require protecting deleted pages, etc., so I suggest you report it at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents for a closer look and a more thorough fix.

Once again, thanks for watching out for our encyclopaedia! --A. B. (talkcontribs)

Greetings and... reply

[edit]

Greetings Itemirus. Thanks for your note. As you point out, the tag does indeed seem a bit out of place, but after having marked the page as patrolled, I wanted to draw attention to the existing references (one of which included the non-standard "See more at: ...", and the other, which is pretty promotional: "Costa Diadema, all round excitement") and none of the other Twinkle tags seemed to fit. You're welcome to remove it once you've tweaked those refs a bit. Regards, --Technopat (talk) 22:53, 21 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pickiness is relative, and although Wikipedia articles are essentially ongoing projects, one aspires to perfection... I'm sure you'll agree with me that your new version is/looks better than the previous one. Regards, --Technopat (talk) 09:27, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of companies paying scrip dividends, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page National Grid (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Question on Eugene Nicholas Myers Article

[edit]

You wrote, "This article contains wording that promotes the subject in a subjective manner without imparting real information" on the https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Eugene_Nicholas_Myers article. Can you please point me at the specific wording you mean, so I can fix it?

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cfulbright (talkcontribs) 21:33, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well maybe that template is excessive; anyway I've got the impression that the article is written just to promote the subject with a long list of accomplishments; I have no doubt Prof. Myers is a highly reputable doctor, but the contents of the article may not thoroughly adhere to wikipedia policies in regards to neutrality and biographies. JMHO

  • While serving in that leadership position he dramatically increased the size and quality of the school’s department of otolaryngology, so that it is widely considered one of the leading programs in the world. - the cited source does not contain any clues in regard;
  • He’s been honored to deliver over 50 eponymous addresses - should be referenced;
--Itemirus (talk) 22:15, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I added references/citations wherever you specificied the need, in addition to other places that seemed to me to call out for it. I added more categories. I deleted the word "dramatically" and tried to change any wording that was subjective opinion. With one exception: there is a line in there that the UPMC department is considered one of the leading such departments, and I included a citation to a source that makes that statement.

The two remaining dings on the article are 1) citations needed, and 2) subjective promotion. I'm hoping I've addressed those. Assuming you agree, can you please remove those two exceptions from the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cfulbright (talkcontribs) 23:01, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Done and I've improved the page structure a bit; remember to sign your posts :-) --Itemirus (talk) 23:21, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I want to invite you to participate (in Italian if you prefer) in the discussion taking place.

signalling a discrepancy

[edit]

I think it would be helpful to have a practical way for users to point out any discrepancies in information. It would be useful to have an easy-to-post question forum, too.

For instance, on one page (longest mountain ranges) it states the Himalayas length is 2576 km, and on the Himalaya page it states 2400 km. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stjohn1970 (talkcontribs) 16:11, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of List of companies paying monthly dividends

[edit]

The article List of companies paying monthly dividends has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unclear why this would be a notable, defining characteristic for a stand alone list.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. New deal for page patrollers

[edit]

Hi Itemirus,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:28, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Safuu Air Rendering.jpeg

Thank you for uploading File:Safuu Air Rendering.jpeg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the September 11 attacks, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;

Deletion discussion about Gestione Governativa Navigazione Laghi

[edit]

Hello Itemirus, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Gestione Governativa Navigazione Laghi, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gestione Governativa Navigazione Laghi.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Shushugah}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

(Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

A tag has been placed on First Digital USD, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Please stop attacking other editors, as you did on Talk:First Digital USD. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Comment on content, not on other contributors or people. DMacks (talk) 10:37, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I was pointing out that if a guy that has been deleting content on a whim for years on wikipedia is still allowed to do it regardless of rules and, adding insult to injury, is also an admin, probably there is something deeply wrong within Wikipedia's policies. I hope that, with same zeal and diligence, you will publish a warning on his user talk page for being such a problematic editor for years, wasting other people's time with his arbitrary and often reverted actions. Itemirus (talk) 10:47, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see no acute behavior problem there. WP:AN is that-a-way. DMacks (talk) 10:51, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I reported him there; just a cursory look at his talk pages is emblematic of his questionable actions Itemirus (talk) 11:00, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And the decision there was that he didn't edit war. It's a poor Admin that doesn't have complaints on their pages from poor editors. Doug Weller talk 10:25, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Note that I said AN (Itemirus is claiming longterm or widespread general problems) not ANEW (where Itemirus was rightly rebuffed as not making a credible claim of edit-war-like behavior). DMacks (talk) 10:29, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 31 hours for personal attacks here and here (the second attack was so crude that it has been revision deleted, not by me). Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Bishonen | tålk 10:59, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Standard cryptocurrency notice

[edit]
This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Due to past disruption in this topic area, the community has authorised uninvolved administrators to impose contentious topics restrictions—such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks—on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, expected standards of behaviour, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on these sanctions. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.
