Ratings template
Hi. As I've become a more experienced editor with album articles, I've realized that you were right in your discussion here about subjective labels in the ratings template. Since the template is just a supplement that only seems useful as a place to show scores given by the reviews that are summarized in prose (rather than wasting prose space by describing the score), "favorable" and "unfavorable" are just redundant with the sentiment that is already established in the prose, making it repetitive rather than an illustration (of scores). Disputes like this have made it more irritating. So I'd like to make a request to remove this aspect from the template page more formally with a "support" or "against" kind of vote. Started it here. Invitation for taking a short survey about communication and efficiency of WikiProjects for my research
Hi IllaZilla, I'm working on a project to study the running of WikiProject and possible performance measures for it. I learn from WikiProject Albums talk page that you are an active member of the project. I would like to invite you to take a short survey for my study. If you are available to take our survey, could you please reply an email to me? I'm new to Wikipedia, I can't send too many emails to other editors due to anti-spam measure. Thank you very much for your time. Xiangju (talk) 14:47, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

Hey IllaZilla, it would be great if you could give some input here (for the zillionth time, I know.) Not that I'd blame you if you're sick of dealing with TheMetallican at this point. Cheers. Friginator (talk) 16:07, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
The article Forget the World has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No indication of notability - will happily withdraw proposal if sources can a) be found and b) confirm notability.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Launchballer 14:31, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

Restarting/renaming WP:WikiProject Emo
There's currently a small discussion on revamping WikiProject Emo. I suggested that we move the whole project to something like WikiProject Post-hardcore. Post-hardcore is a significant subgenre of punk that is severely overlooked by WikiProject Punk music, and it can conceivably be used as an umbrella term to include emo (even emo pop and pop punk). Also, this way we can possibly avoid the politics of "this is/isn't punk/emo/etc." Any thoughts? ozhu (talk·contribs) 20:47, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
Invitation to WikiProject Post-hardcore
IllaZilla, I urge you to get acquainted with our notability guidelines. That something could in principle be sourced doesn't mean it should stand as an article. Besides, the Warped Tour business has been a fan-filled walled garden for too long. Drmies (talk) 13:22, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
- I'm well familiar with the guidelines, thank you, having spent about 6 years writing and improving album articles. The rationale you gave for redirecting these articles (without any discussion that I could find) was "unsourced tracklist". That rationale is insufficient given that I was able to find sources for these tracklists in under 30 seconds. Most of those sources also include a review of the album. It demonstrates that you did not make a good faith effort to find sources before unilaterally redirecting these articles. --IllaZilla (talk) 21:05, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
- That demonstration is about as solid as my concluding from your edits that you're on Warped's payroll. Why don't you prove me wrong and improve the articles? Surely you are capable of adding a reference--and then you'll have to accept that one reference does not notability make. Drmies (talk) 21:24, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
- Again, in your edit summaries you made no mention of notability. You merely said "unsourced tracklist", indicating that your issue with the articles was verifiability. I was able to find sources easily, showing that the information is verifiable. If you want to redirect them on the basis of notability, you need to say so, and such a mass redirecting of articles generally requires some kind of discussion. --IllaZilla (talk) 21:31, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
- Come on--you know exactly what I mean: per NALBUMS, these are not albums that require an article. What do you want me to do, revert all your edits with a new summary? Also, I don't see why this would require discussion any more than the creation of such terrible articles requires one. The job here is to improve the project, not to clutter it up. I just saw Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Warped Tour 2010 Tour Compilation--well, AllMusic and a note on PunkNews, that's hardly impressive, if I may say so. More interesting and timely is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Warped Tour 2012: it seems to me that this entire set of Warped articles was more like fancruft than anything else, and all those articles, including the main one are/were in pretty bad shape. So I may just put this one up at AfD, in which case I'll ping you. Drmies (talk) 22:27, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
- If you meant notability, you should have said so. My impression was that you thought they were non-notable, but since that would require discussion to establish you instead redirected them on the claim that they were unsourced (which is an issue of verifiability, not notability). Effectively you used WP:V as a rationale to avoid a discussion of WP:N. An AfD of one of the tour articles does not give you carte blanche to redirect the album article as well, especially when there was already an AfD of one of the album articles that closed as keep. Very little on Wikipedia requires an article; that you think they are terrible or "clutter" doesn't give you license to perform a mass culling. If it did, I'd have redirected hundreds of articles on fictional minutia years ago. The threshold for notability is deliberately low. It's generally easier to find sources for an album than it is for a tour, since live shows don't get many reviews and once they're over, they're over, whereas albums are widely distributed and stick around. I'm willing to add the sources I found to the articles (I'm not active on WP anymore, unless something catches my attention); if you want to AfD them after that, you're welcome to. It's the unilateral redirecting on a claim of "unsourced" when you clearly meant "not notable" that I object to. --IllaZilla (talk) 00:31, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

- Thank you, MelanieN. The acknowledgement is much appreciated :) --IllaZilla (talk) 15:20, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- Just so you know - your work at that article has inspired me to start working on an article about Dr. Fred Baker, something I have been intending to do for years. I'm stealing some of your references. 0;-D --MelanieN (talk) 22:43, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
- By all means, steal away ;) I'm learning about most of these individuals for the first time, and they're pretty interesting! --IllaZilla (talk) 06:34, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
- I also suggest starting an article on Dr. Charles Schroeder, who founded the Wild Animal Park, if you're interested. He also held a number other positions within the zoological world, including the San Diego Zoo and Bronx Zoo, and was president of the San Diego Natural History Society, the AAZPA, and the International Union of Directors of Zoological Gardens. Some sources are in the SDZG article but I'm sure more are available elsewhere. --IllaZilla (talk) 21:05, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
- That's a great idea. I'm surprised he doesn't already have one. I enjoy biography (I wrote the Harry Wegeforth and Belle Benchley articles) and love the Zoo. I'll see what I can do, not right away but soon. Yes, there are some interesting people involved; Kurt Benirschke, founder of CRES and the Frozen Zoo, has had an article for years. I've met him once or twice, he is one of the smartest people I have ever met. --MelanieN (talk) 22:28, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, man - I just took a look at the Benirschke article and it needs a lot of work. So many articles, so little time! --MelanieN (talk) 22:34, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
- Just so you know, I did complete the article about Fred Baker, and it will be on the front page DYK in the next 24 hours. --MelanieN (talk) 16:26, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- Awesome! Great work! I've gotten my hands on It Began with a Roar (bio & memoir of Wegeforth) and Mister Zoo (biography of Schroeder) and intend to use those as sources as I continue. I'd like to get some of Benchley's books as well. Right now I'm trying to sort through the various awards the organization has received. --IllaZilla (talk) 16:40, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- Also, I was at the Zoo last week and took some photos of historically-interesting things (older exhibits, various dedication plaques, etc.) that I intend to add for illustration. I had hoped to get a photo of the plaque honoring Wegeforth that I think is still on the entry of the Wegeforth Bowl, but the whole Bowl was closed and surrounded by construction fences as it's being renovated in preparation for the Zoo's 100th anniversary. There's also a plaque somewhere honoring the founding Society members, but I think it might be on the Bowl as well. Signage indicated the Bowl should re-open sometime this summer. --IllaZilla (talk) 16:56, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the link to the Schroeder book (written, I see, by Doug Myers, his successor as Zoo director). It Began with a Roar is a fun read, partly because Wegeforth himself was such an interesting character (we had some interesting doctors in those days! Have you read the article about Charlotte Baker?), and partly because the co-author Neil Morgan was a very accomplished and popular journalist here. --MelanieN (talk) 17:46, 19 June 2015 (UTC) P.S. My local library had Mister Zoo on the shelf so I have it now. I guess that means I have to write the article within the next three weeks! --MelanieN (talk) 19:05, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- I got the 1991 edition of Roar that has an introduction by Schroeder and a new foreword by Morgan. I hadn't heard of Baker before, but now that I've looked her up she seems interesting. I bought Mister Zoo (at the Zoo, ironically) so I'm happy to get cracking on a bio, without the 3 week window. Unless you're itching to write it, that is. --IllaZilla (talk) 00:41, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
- Be my guest! I have plenty else on my plate. I started assembling a few notes, but I got sidetracked into trying to make a list of the directors of the Zoo; not as easy a task as it sounds! You can see the list I found in my sandbox - at the top under "Draft article" - my sandbox is awfully cluttered. I believe there were multiple short-term directors before Belle Benchley (apparently Dr. Wegeforth was not an easy man to work for) so there are some gaps in the record there. (Back in the 1920s there was a Zoo director named Tom Faulconer, I wonder if he is an ancestor of our mayor! I might ask him!) I was interested to learn that in 2013 (without any publicity) Doug Meyers moved from Zoo Director into the position of President and CEO Of of SDZG, leaving a (subordinate?) Zoo director and a (new?) Safari Park director. --MelanieN (talk) 01:22, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
- Great minds think alike! I also have been thinking of compiling a list of zoo directors, and of presidents of SDZG. You're right; there were a few short-term directors in the early days, Frank Buck briefly among them. I think failure to find a director who could meet Wegeforth's standards may have been why they appointed Benchley as Executive Secretary with authority over the day-to-day ops of the Zoo. Eventually she was the de facto director, so Wegeforth changed her title to that. I believe Faulconer was an ancestor of our mayor, but I don't remember where I read that. You're also right about Meyers' move, though I don't know the details. --IllaZilla (talk) 03:28, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
- Meyers' move might have been even earlier: This indicates that he was CEO/Executive Director of the Zoological Society in 2009. --IllaZilla (talk) 22:59, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
Then was he ALSO director of the San Diego Zoo? Had both titles until recently? Maybe it was part of the recent rebranding, to separate the titles which used to be almost synonymous. --MelanieN (talk) 01:15, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
- That's possible; I have no idea. The SDZG history timeline also mentions him being CEO in 2007: "CEO Douglas Myers is confirmed to the National Museum and Library Services Board." Maybe he held both positions simultaneously, though from the timeline I don't see that anyone else ever did that. It doesn't seem to mention his successor as Zoo Director. --IllaZilla (talk) 01:24, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
AM! songs
Hi Illa,
Hope you are well :) I was wondering if it would be worth making a new article for a comprehensive list of Against Me! songs, both released and unreleased? How would I go about doing this?
Aaron — Preceding unsigned comment added by AarnKrry (talk • contribs) 22:18, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi AarnKrry, nice to hear from you again. I'm glad you're still active (I had a Wikibreak of about 2 years). I don't know about the idea of a list article compiling all of Against Me!'s songs, especially unreleased ones. There are already articles for every one of the band's releases, plus Against Me! discography which includes an "Other appearances" section specifically for songs they released outside of their own catalog (such as on compilations). Every song the band has released is (probably) already listed between those articles. The idea of listing unreleased songs doesn't sit well with me...how would you verify their existence if they're unreleased? That would require careful sourcing. And what's the purpose of listing unreleased songs, other than to pique the interest of AM! superfans? I've seen such lists before, within discography article/sections, and they inevitably turn into an exhaustive fans' listing of every cover song the band ever played live, every song idea they came up with but later scrapped, and every title a member mentioned in passing in some 'zine interview. To me, this doesn't really serve an encyclopedic purpose.
- I don't mean to discourage you, and if you want to start such an article there's certainly precedent for it. Take a look at Category:Lists of songs by recording artists for examples. Some of them have even been rated Featured Lists; I suggest you use one of the ones in Category:FL-Class song articles as a template if you're serious about it (look for the ones titled "List of songs recorded by..."). You could start it in your userspace by creating User:AarnKrry/List of songs recorded by Against Me!, and move it into article space once you think it's ready. --IllaZilla (talk) 15:14, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
It's not about partial lists
You have been chastised for this and I have been reverting it everywhere I've seen it been added. Please stop adding it. It's not necessary. You're trying to bully other editors into doing this your way. Please stop. Please gain consensus at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music or some similar project. Walter Görlitz (talk) 15:29, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Walter, I was actually about to post something to your talk page, but I'll put it here instead. I really don't think the confrontational attitude is necessary. Could you indicate where I've been "chastised for this"? I don't recall ever having been, and I'm certainly not trying to "bully other editors into doing this my way". I don't want to get into an edit war with you about it, but in my experience the standard summary style for discography sections with a link to a main discography article is to have the small header "Studio albums" to indicate to readers what the content of the partial list in the section is. It may be obvious to us, as editors who frequently work on such articles, but readers should have some label to give context to the items in a list. See also this request I made to an editor who's gone around removing this notation from many articles. I didn't put those headers there to begin with (I don't recall ever editing most of the articles in question before), but I do think they ought to be there, and that's the practice I've seen on many good and featured articles. See for example Aaliyah, AC/DC, Alice in Chains, R.E.M, and Radiohead, all at time of FA promotion. --IllaZilla (talk) 15:40, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
Editor of the Week
Editor of the Week | ||
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week for your long-term efforts to improve Wikipedia. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project) |
User:Yash submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:
Allow me to introduce User:IllaZilla. I remember when I first saw this award, his name poped right into my head. IllaZilla is a true, hard working and dedicated content writer. He has been here for 9 long years and has written over 200 articles, started and maintained a WikiProject (Alien), worked extensively with articles related to the Alien films (1 FA and 2 GAs), punk rock (especially Blink-182), emo and has indirectly contributed a lot to a number of articles that are GAs today. Nearly 60% of his 59K edits come from the main space. He has dedicated a great amount of his time to many articles which is evident from the fact that he has an impressive 100+ edits to about 60 articles. Other than that, he has provided more than 70 photographs of a number of bands and musicians. IllaZilla has been an excellent long standing editor and a very valuable asset. It is my pleasure to nominate him; he truly deserves to be rewarded. This nomination was supported by User:Titodutta and User:MelanieN.

Multiple nominations
I've just replied to one of your speedy deletion notices, but rather than reply to them all, I thought I'd just ask instead: why are they being nominated for deletion? It doesn't make sense to me; all of these things are important parts of my life and I don't see why people shouldn't be allowed to know about them. 4TheWynne(talk)(contribs) 07:11, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- Please see WP:NOTWEBHOST. Wikipedia is not a web host for your fiction writings or promotion of your band. These things may be important to you, but they have nothing to do with Wikipedia. If you want people to know about them, I suggest you use another avenue such as a blog; Wikipedia is not the place. See also WP:UPYES. Please delete these pages by placing
{{Db-u1}}
on them, otherwise I will likely nominate them for deletion at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion. --IllaZilla (talk) 07:15, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, I know what you're thinking now... please understand that these pages are by no means a WP:SELFPROMOTION or anything of the sort. Let me talk to a couple of other editors first; if these pages are to be deleted, I don't want to be doing it in a hurry. 4TheWynne(talk)(contribs) 07:25, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- Since you are directing other editors to look here, I'll list the pages in question for reference:
- User:4TheWynne/Aspect – 4TheWynne describing he and his friends' high school band
- User:4TheWynne/Template:Aspect – A navbox for 4TheWynne's band, only linking to articles about bands whose songs they've covered
- User:4TheWynne/The Dragon Hunter Chronicles: Conflict – A page about a fantasy novel 4TheWynne is writing, including descriptions of how he hopes to turn it into a star-studded movie
- User:4TheWynne/The Dragon Hunter Chronicles: Conflict/Plot – A sub-page for the above, describing the plot of 4TheWynne's fantasy novel in detail
- This all seems to be blatant WP:NOTWEBHOST stuff to me. --IllaZilla (talk) 07:45, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- I agree with IllaZilla. FreeKnowledgeCreator (talk) 10:03, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- Since you are directing other editors to look here, I'll list the pages in question for reference:
- All right, all right, I'm going to do it in the morning. But you don't seem to have put much thought into how long these pages have been up and how long other editors have known about these pages, which is the only reason why I'm disappointed that it's come to this point (basically, because I put a lot of work into them). That was the only reason for my hesitation, and that's why I wanted to confirm first. Thank you for your time. 4TheWynne(talk)(contribs) 12:57, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you. I'm not trying to be a buzzkill, it just seems you've got the wrong idea regarding the purpose of userspace and are treating it like a personal website. How long you worked on the pages isn't really relevant if they've got nothing to do with Wikipedia or its goals. I think "how long other editors have known about these pages" is a spurious argument...these pages have only existed for a few months, they're tucked away in userspace (user subpages are seldom visited except by the user who created them), and they have very few page views (what page views they have are probably from you). With respect, I doubt any other editors did know about these pages, or they'd likely have been nominated for deletion sooner. Again, no disrespect intended toward your creative endeavors, but this content doesn't belong on Wikipedia. Best of luck with both the music and the writing. --IllaZilla (talk) 15:22, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- There, now I've nominated them. How long before they are deleted? 4TheWynne(talk)(contribs) 22:10, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
Cleanup good, tone, well...
I wanted to pop by to say that I actually DO appreciate your cleanup efforts on the horse articles, but also have to say that the edit summary "generally, don't use thumbnail *and* force a display size, do one or the other. the point of thumbnails is a uniform default size that users can adjust for themselves in preferences" has sort of a "templating the regulars" tone. You may have noticed that some of these articles haven't had significant work in years, so while it is great that you are getting rid of the forced image sizing and such (which indeed, is so 2008 or so), you really don't need to lecture, as the canned summary like that is more suitable for new edits where the person making the mistake (particularly if en masse) is still around to heed the advice. Also, FWIW, there are a few situations where the upright parameter isn't helpful - it's not mandatory - two situations are 1) when it makes one image be narrower than a group of others, it's bad layout. 2) It also is inadvisable when the point is to have the image be a bit larger - we could also use "upright=1.5" or something, but where the default works, no sense wasting bandwidth. But other than that, I did want to thank you; cleanup of older articles is a neverending task, and your efforts are appreciated - I've agreed with 80-90% of them. Montanabw(talk) 23:51, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks. I came across the issue on one or two articles, and I guess I picked a nit and ran with it. I'm sorry if my edit summaries came off prickly, but when I'm making many of the same types of edits across many articles I tend to just come up with one edit summary and auto-fill it. I've shortened it to just point to WP:THUMBSIZE. As for the situations you mention: 1) I disagree that it's bad layout. IMO it's worse layout to have a portrait-oriented image appear much larger than a landscape-oriented image by default. A portrait image is usually narrower than a landscape image, so when you force its width to be the same as a landscape image's, its height is also multiplied, the end result being that it takes up significantly more screen space than a landscape image, which to me appears very unbalanced/disproportionate. 2) I've advised why the default is not preferable; the defaults for thumbnails are based on landscape-oriented images, so when you don't use
upright
for an upright image, you're confusing the system. Depending on the device and screen you're using to view the article, this can cause display issues. If a wider display is desired for an upright image, better to use a scaling factor as described at THUMBSIZE. Bandwidth isn't really an issue. Anyway, I appreciate your taking the time to comment. --IllaZilla (talk) 06:32, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
- Ah, I've used repeated edit summaries over and over too... it happens. As for the rest, there are times when the upright parameter is a very good idea and times when it is not, it depends on how the image looks on the screen; it isn't always disproportionate, it depends on the layout, the relationship to other images and so on. the defaults simply set width; if the width default works, the system is not confused...a smaller image like the one I posted here looks identical on my browser either way, curious if it appears the same width to you also. Montanabw(talk) 07:47, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
- It does, but only if my thumbnail preference is set to 220 px or larger. Try changing your preference to below 220 px; for me the one without
upright
does not shrink as it should. At smaller settings, the one with the scaling factor shrinks but remains larger than the one with justupright
, which is what I want to achieve. --IllaZilla (talk) 14:57, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Hello!
Just to check in and say hello. It's been a couple of years, but I did want to express my thanks to you for helping me get started at here Wikipedia all those many moons ago. If I was a little bit of a "bronkin' buck" then, I do apologize, but you taught me a lot. I think that my perspective has grown since then. Well, I been up to a bunch of things, lately, one of which has been doing a big expansion on the Garage rock article--you'll notice that it's come a long way. I was thinking about getting it reviewed, maybe first for GA (then maybe later for FA). I've been working on a bunch of other things too. And, best wishes to you in all of your projects. List of zoo associations
I see that you reverted my edit to List of zoo associations. When intentionally linking to a disambiguation page, the link should either be piped through, or link directly to, the (disambiguation) redirect per WP:INTDABLINK. This helps those of us at WP:DPL (and the bots that help us) know that the link is intentional. -Niceguyedc Go Huskies! 06:20, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware of that guideline. I'm still in the process of building the Zoological Society dab page (it involves going through the numerous articles that contain the phrase "zoological society" in order to identify possible search targets). Once finished, it is my intention to go through the pages that link to Zoological Society and repair the unintentional links to the dab page (the title formerly redirected to Zoological Society of London, which is likely the intended destination of most of those links). Once I've done so, there should be few, if any, intentional links to the dab page remaining. --IllaZilla (talk) 07:51, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
- The links from articles that currently go through the Zoological Society (disambiguation) redirect almost all come from the template {{Zoos}}. Removing the link in that template would remove most of the unintentional links. When the page was turned into a disambiguation page, most of the incoming links at that time were intended to point to the London society, as you mentioned, but those were cleaned up within a few hours of the change.
- Looking at the way the page is laid out, it is more of a set index page than a disambiguation page. The guidelines for set indices are a little less restrictive, as you don't have to follow WP:D – images, references and other things not normally found on a disambiguation page are allowed on set index articles. -Niceguyedc Go Huskies! 11:45, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

Editor of the Week : nominations needed!
The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.
The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Is there an editor who does lots of little tasks well, such as cleaning up citations?
Please help us thank editors who display sustained patterns of excellence, working tirelessly in the background out of the spotlight, by submitting your nomination for Editor of the Week today!

Ampersands
IllaZilla, and and "&" are the same meaning. Since it is, should there really be a change?- MACJC — Preceding unsigned comment added by MACJC (talk • contribs) 18:05, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
- As I mentioned on your talk page last week, please see Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Ampersand. "&" may be OK in text messages and on Twitter where you need to use fewer characters, but this is an encyclopedia and we aim for a professional writing style, using whole words rather than symbol abbreviations in article text. Using ampersands and pound signs throughout articles rather than the words "and" and "number" appears amateurish. Would you turn in a research paper for school or submit a book for publishing with ampersands throughout? Likely not. And to use your own argument, if "and" and "&" have the same meaning, why would you go through existing articles changing all the "and"s to ampersands, as you've done to at least two articles? --IllaZilla (talk) 06:37, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Your links on the main page aren't working. I don't think the username was correctly inputted. This is regarding your old username's. by the way, I found your account through some album pages. I'm fixing articles with incorrectly titled "Personnel". Here's one: Red_Alert_(album)#Performers. Please use the ping User
code so I will get a notification of your reply. --Jennica✿Ping Me! 13:50, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hi @Jennica:. I'm unsure what you mean about "links on the main page not working". If you mean the link on my user page to my old account, User:IllaZilla2, it redirects to my current user page. User talk:IllaZilla2 redirects here. I haven't used that old account in almost 10 years and don't ever log into it to check for messages or anything, so if people came across my old activity and wanted to contact me, like you did, I wanted them redirected here. You can see the old account's contribution history here. --IllaZilla (talk) 14:51, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

- @Jennica: Oh, I see what you mean. Those used to link to the search results for my 2 accounts. I guess the site changed. Just type in my username(s) and it will generate a list. --IllaZilla (talk) 00:43, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

dyingscene - thanks!
Hey man — thanks for jumping in over at the spam blacklist page. I have no idea how you saw that, but I appreciate the support! I've been a little worried that folks who aren't familiar with punk at all were going to determine the fate of the site without hearing from anyone else who's more familiar with punk music. Anyhow, thanks! Kyle Barbour 06:56, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
- No problem, @Kyle Barbour:. It was a weird coincidence, actually: I'm rewriting The Fastest Kid Alive, spent a bunch of time on it, got it all ready to go, clicked save, and got the spam warning because I'd used DS as a source for explaining the origin of the album title. When I clicked over to the blacklist discussion page, there was your topic right up top. I've stashed my revision in userspace for now, though it would sure be helpful if the block was lifted. A minor annoyance, I know, but that's the only source I could find for that info. --IllaZilla (talk) 14:51, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
Editor of the Week seeking nominations (and a new facilitator)
In addition, the WikiProject is seeking a new facilitator/coordinator to handle the logistics of the award. Please contact L235 if you are interested in helping with the logistics of running the award in any capacity. Remove your name from here to unsubscribe from further EotW-related messages. Thanks, Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 05:19, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
WP:JR
Hello. Re this edit, WP:JR reflects a (relatively new) community consensus for default omission of this comma as a house style. Hundreds of articles have already been moved and none have been found to clear the high bar of "clearly and consistently preferred for a particular subject in current, reliable sources". I'll take care of moving the Jackson article and doing the related copy edit; I just wanted to let you know. Thanks,―Mandruss ☎ 08:21, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
- Huh. That seems contrary to how I've seen name suffixes appear in nearly everything I've read throughout my life, but I honestly can't say I have a manual of style or writer's guide to back it up. Thanks for the heads up. --IllaZilla (talk) 15:24, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

September 2017
You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Queens of the Stone Age (album). Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Sundayclose (talk) 01:33, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
The article No Stars, Just Talent has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
unreferenced album with no indication of notability
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Jax 0677 (talk) 18:44, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

There's an intruder
Hello. I came here as an aftermath of a discussion I had on it. wiki. There is this image you uploaded that shows all the singers who sang on the Probot project. One of them, however, isn't Trouble's original singer Eric Wagner, but Trouble's second singer Kory Clarke. Is it possible to solve this problem finding an to find an Eric Wagner photo? There is one on his Metal Archives profile but I don't know if it can be used for this.--Gybo 95 (talk) 14:09, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
- Are you sure? I don't know anything about Eric Wagner or Trouble outside of his involvement in the Probot album, and I don't recall how I came to use that photo in the collage. If it's indeed actually of Clarke, I'd be happy to switch it out for one that's verifiably Wagner, but it would have to be one that's available under a free license. I highly doubt the one on Metal Archives is freely-licensed; it's most likely copyrighted. --IllaZilla (talk) 14:23, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
- Excuse me if I've read this message only now: yes, I'm sure about it. Searching the two profiles on Internet, I've noticed they are two different singers, and that in the photo is Kory Clarke. Thanks for the answer.--Gybo 95 (talk) 20:51, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

As you asked about NF sizing.
WP:Image resolution - I agree, not that easy to find. Ronhjones (Talk) 21:26, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Ronhjones Thanks. I did find that after some looking, but it's not a very easy guide to follow. Especially since resolution is different than size...It's easy to have a large image that is low-res. With film posters especially, most original sources found online are already significantly lower-size and lower-res than the originals, since film posters are usually around 2 ft x 3 ft. Like with the Dudes poster, you can see that the versions found on IMDB and elsewhere are photos of an actual poster (you can see the creases where it was folded), so we're already dealing with a significantly lower size and resolution than the original. It's always been my practice to treat an infobox image (like a film poster) like a thumbnail: readers should be able to click over to the image page and see a bit more detail to the image than they see in the infobox. Some Wikiprojects take this into account, for example WP:ALBUMS advises that uploaded versions of non-free album covers should be no larger than 300px on the largest side, but I've never found something that specific regarding film posters. --IllaZilla (talk) 21:35, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

Hey, man! I just thought I would drop by and say thanks for working on The Queers articles, particularly Love Songs for the Retarded! They're looking really good! I had planned to do it for a while but just never got around to it. Thank you so much! BLAguyMONKEY! (talk) 02:55, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
Edit: I see you've been working on a bunch of others Lookout-related articles as well. Not that you really need my help, but I'd gladly help you out! Obviously, I'm a huge fan of that stuff, so I would love to help out! BLAguyMONKEY! (talk) 03:36, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks! I've been on a Lookout kick since reading Larry Livermore's books, and got really into the Queers lately (for some reason I never really caught onto them back in the day), so I'm working on the album articles one at a time. I even saw them play last week, nice coincidence they came through town while I've been really into their music. --IllaZilla (talk) 18:19, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah, Larry Livermore's books are great! I've only read How to Ru(i)n a Record Label so far, but I plan to read Spy Rock Memories soon! I should probably read Punk USA sometime too. Actually, I didn't get into The Queers until recently too. I honestly didn't really think much of them until last Summer, even though I've been a Screeching Weasel fan for nearly a decade. It's really weird. Again, I really appreciate the job you're doing! Instead of me helping you, maybe you could help me edit some of the Lookout-related articles! I'm not real confident in my editing skills. Ha! BLAguyMONKEY! (talk) 11:17, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
- Sure, I can pitch in on some of the Lookout! articles. I started some in my userspace that I'll probably continue working on later. Spy Rock Memories is good; it's less about the record label and more about Larry's time in the mountains, but it has a lot more details on the origins of Lookout! than How to Ru(i)n a Record Label does...his starting Lookout magazine, his band the Lookouts with Tré Cool, helping start 924 Gilman Street, and starting the label with David Hayes. Together the two books kind of give you the whole Larry Livermore story from his own perspective. Punk USA is an oral history and is a lot like American Hardcore: A Tribal History, if you've read that one: it's made up of quotes from various people who Prested interviewed, interspersed with his own paragraphs which serve to introduce or bridge topics and tie the quotes together. It's useful in that it provides other perspectives on the label, especially Chris Appelgren, Cathy Bauer, and musicians like Dr. Frank and Joe Queer, but it's missing key voices like David Hayes, Patrick Hynes, Molly Neuman, Ben Weasel, and Larry. It's not too surprising that Larry didn't participate, since it came out in between Spy Rock Memories and How to Ru(i)n a Record Label so it wouldn't been written around the same time, and he would've been saving his account for his own books. And just based on Ben Weasel's reputation, I'm not too surprised that he's not in it (Jughead, Vapid, and Panic did participate, and he's had falling outs with all of them). It also suffers from some of the same problems that American Hardcore has, in that it glosses over certain important events (like Larry leaving the label, and the financial troubles of the late '90s/early '00s) and really would've benefited from more critical editing. It also would've been improved by the inclusion of a discography of the label, and a section listing all the interviewees like in Please Kill Me and We Got the Neutron Bomb. Anyway, if you put all 3 books together (Livermore's 2 plus Punk USA) you more or less get the whole story of Lookout!, minus a few key people's perspectives. --IllaZilla (talk) 19:09, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

The file File:Dudes soundtrack cover.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Non-free album cover being used in a decorative manner in Dudes (film)#Soundtrack album. Non-free album cover art is generally allowed to be used for primary identification purposes in stand-alone articles about albums, but its use in other articles is generally only allowed when the cover art itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3 and the context for non-free use required by WP:NFCC#8 is evident. There is no such commentary for this particular album cover anywhere in the article, and the use of soundtrack album cover art in articles about films or TV programs is generally not allowed for this reason as explained in WP:FILMSCORE.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:13, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for September 9
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Some Kind of Monster (film), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Heavy metal (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Help?
Hey, it's been a long time! I was wondering if you could help me out with something. I made an article for Sweet Baby's It's a Girl! album, but it got reviewed and there's some issues with the sources. It's been a long time since I've seriously edited Wikipedia, so I'm kind of having to relearn again and I'm sure some of my methods are outdated, so I'm sure I've messed some stuff up. Would you mind terribly taking a look at it and maybe taking a stab at it yourself? One of the sources you're gonna need the Wayback Machine to access, but I'm not sure how exactly to format that into Wikipedia. Thanks in advance! BLAguyMONKEY! (talk) 20:55, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

The file File:What We Do Is Secret soundtrack cover.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Non-free album cover being used in a decorative manner in What We Do Is Secret (film)#Soundtrack album. There is no such commentary for this particular album cover anywhere in the article, and the use of soundtrack album cover art in articles about films or TV programs is generally not allowed for this reason as explained in WP:FILMSCORE and MOS:TVPRODUCTION.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 09:01, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
