AIV Reports

Be sure when reporting editors to WP:AIV that they have the proper warnings. In most cases they need to receive a level 4 warning before being reported/blocked. Keep up the vandal fighting! -- pb30< talk> 19:44, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey

164.116.237.27 has been vandalizing your user page and my talk page (this user is vandalizing the pages of users who are telling him/her to stop vandalizing pages). Please give him another warning, thanks! Devrit 20:08, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Addition to SWAT page

I recently attempted to add another use of SWAT to the page, and was tld by you tat my edit had been 'reverted'. I do not wish to offend r mis-direct people, simply to inform readers of this other use. Please could you let me know what I am doing wrong, and guide me appropriately as to how I may do this? Many thanks, R Hall (on behalf of Tricia Lichfield, tricia@swat.tv) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.131.0.34 (talk) 21:24, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

history for the page. The edits you are reverting are not clearly vandalism, and the editor introducing them is not a vandal. Both you and the IP editor have exceeded the three revert rule. Edit warring isn't acceptable, and it is better for the article and the encyclopedia to let the "bad revision" remain and seek some resolution on the talk page. I'm not sure if it is fair to block either account (as the edit war appears to be stale), not am I sure that protecting the article will solve this. So I need you and the IP editor to start a dialogue on the talk page or back away from the article for a while. Is that ok with you? Protonk (talk) 22:40, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Only followed this edit so if it was wrong I'm sorry. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 22:44, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Not a problem at all. I've given a 3RR warning to the IP editor, so hopefully that will be the end of this. Thanks for the quick response. Protonk (talk) 22:58, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Signing and Welcome and Thanks

Well, I thank you for your note, and certainly I do wind up with sign-bot-supplied signatures from time to time... But... I don't see that one that I missed. On an unrelated subject, I see your name on a lot of Vandalfighting. Thank you. The sheer VOLUME of the spam, vilification and, silliness, is staggering. :) Erm.. I have scrolled back through the last 50 edits and I can't see a missed sig (other than this one, but I caught it before sign-bot. Just curious. ;)sinneed (talk) 17:35, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Reverts

I never really complain. (I'm not complaining, actually, lol) I read this: Reverted 3 edits by ESanchez013 and 99.255.71.201 to last version by Reinyday (HG). Only one undoing was mine. The anon IP did two vandalism edits and I did one undoing. So it's only one edit by me, two by the anon (over at the Family article). Please tell me this is just Huggle's default edit summary. I wasn't vandalizing. Thx! ←Signed:→Mr. E. Sánchez Get to know me! / Talk to me!←at≈:→ 21:33, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Whew. You've relieved me. Thx!! ←Signed:→Mr. E. Sánchez Get to know me! / Talk to me!←at≈:→ 21:37, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

I've noticed something peculiar you were doing regarding reverts of pages that were about to be deleted. You do not have to revert every single edit made by a person who has created a page that's about to be speedied. It is only appropriate to revert them if they remove the speedy tag. Please be mindful of this when you use Huggle. You unnecessarily reverted some users several times on such pages. Just wanted to let you know. Keep up the great anti-vandal work.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 22:14, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism reversion

I essentially reverted a recent vandalism reversion that you made to Donovan McNabb. You reverted to an earlier version by Xcrunnner2828, but that itself was vandalism. This user has been vandalizing various articles with references to the so-called “church of Broan.” I have reverted all of those that I found. Also, I think that Xcrunner2828 and 68.81.120.242 are the same person. You might keep an eye on them. •Life of Riley (talk) 22:52, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Ok, thx. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 22:55, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

You must be joking

You just posted a warning on an IP talk page for the IP I was just using to edit for an NPOV violation. I edited a *talk page* giving someone a message. You can't be NPOV on a talk page!!! Did you even read the message? You just completely proved the point I was making. Please think before you post things like that. Thanks. Jwkpiano1 (talk) 23:52, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

What are you talking about? Do you a link? --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 23:55, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, sorry. Here: User_talk:130.126.76.118 Jwkpiano1 (talk) 23:58, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
As you might see it's four different people contacting you for bad edits/habits. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 23:59, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Dude, look at them. The first one was me being angry at a guy who was making unsubstantiated edits on something ON A TALK PAGE. Then I responded to that warning, and the response was also reverted, and I got warned again. Then it happened TWO MORE TIMES! It's freaking ridiculous. It was ONE EDIT. Look at my past edits. Do I appear to be a disruptive editor to you? Give me a break. This is the most egregious violation of Do Not Bite the Newcomers I've ever seen, even though I'm actually not a newcomer. Jwkpiano1 (talk) 00:20, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
1. Why do you disguise contributions as an IP when you already have a registered account? 2. Even on a talk page there is no place to attack other people. 3. No, I am NOT joking. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 00:34, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
1. Perhaps I forgot to sign in. Did you think of that? 2. You don't know the context of what happened, and warning me for NPOV makes no sense at all. You used a template that you shouldn't have used. In fact, you had no right to intervene at all. You are not an administrator, though you seem to think you are. 3. Give me a break, you screwed up by warning someone for little to no reason whatsoever. Imagine if I were a newcomer. How do you think that would make me feel? Please use more discretion when deciding to warn someone; that's all I ask, OK? Thank you. Jwkpiano1 (talk) 03:18, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Block requested

User:HexaChord, I am requesting that you not only follow through on your threat to have anonymous editor 68.218.222.8, blocked, but that you make that block permanent. The IP is my home IP, and I have an adolescent who decided that it would be fun to edit Wikipedia today, and you see the result. My biggest fear is having my own reputation maligned, and so I want him to be forced to stop this behaviour. I would love to see him edit properly, but when he showed me what he was doing and thought it was funny, I was mortified. I'm hoping that he now understands how serious I take this, but there is absolutely no reason for my IP to be available for anonymous edits, and I would like it permanently blocked. Can you help me get this done? Unschool (talk) 02:39, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

By the way, I really don't have time to be online these days, but I will sign back on and check for your response when I finish working in a couple of hours. Thanks for your help. Unschool (talk) 02:41, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

My edit to Mormonism

How was my edit to Mormonism biased? If you are familiar with LDS beliefs you know the accuracy of my information. I'll make it less colloquial but I'm going to add it again because it is a vital difference between Evangelical Christianity and Mormonism. With respect, I don't think you're generalized excuse of dubious unsourced material and non-neutrality is reason to revert my post, which expresses actual doctrine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thebestlaidplans (talkcontribs) 19:59, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Dr Robotnik/ Dr Eggman

Hello. Sorry about the revert war going on over the Robotnik/Eggman issue. I would really like us to come to a constructive conclusion over this. I believe the charicters name is Robotnik though of course I know that recent games call him Eggman. I do feel that in references to the older games he should be refered to as Robotnik or Eggman/Robotnik. I know when I play the games I battle Dr Ivo Robotnik at the end of a level. I have been a Sonic superfan for over 10 years collecting everything Sonic so I do know my stuff.

Know you disagree with my changes. Personally I would want to see the article split into 2 seperate ones that use different names. Hope we can resolve this.

Yeah, I saw that inappropriately high level warning when I declined the AIV report [11]. That warning combined with your mistaken reverts led another admin to block the IP for 31 hours. Luckily the other admin reversed the block after I requested that he review the edits in question more closely. Party of Animals

Hi, this is Gregory Feeley. The entry on Party of Animals is full of bizarre, disparaging misinformation. I rewrote it, explaining in the Discussion page why I did so, and am now being threatened with expulsion or something.

The book's author, Harold Brodkey, was a contentious figure, and lots of people have hostile feelings about him. The author of that post seems to be one of them. I have no dog in any fight over Harold Brodkey; I simply corrected some errors of fact. If you want to delete my corrections and throw me out, go ahead. I write books and reference works for a living and, really, don't have to donate my efforts here.

I've got nothing to do with Mr. Brodkey or his works, I just see that you have been warned several times before and still remove content from the article. I would get rid of the "say headcheese" in your signature. While it is entirely your choice, I think it looks a bit odd when tacked on to your template warnings when you are using Huggle. J.delanoygabsadds 00:08, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

:O Did I really come across that I was attacking you? Oh my god, I'm sorry. I didn't intend anything close to that. I am not in the least offended by your signature, not even close, I was only giving you a suggestion. I didn't even expect you to reply at all, (more than maybe an "OK" or "I'd rather not change it") much less read my note as an attack, so I went to fill out a request for checkuser, and neglected to add your talk page to my watchlist.
Geez, why did you think I wanted you to stop using Huggle? You are one of the best, most accurate people using that tool, from what I have seen. I have seen utterly no reason why you should not use the tool.
I'm not really sure what I have done in the past that involved you, that would make you think I did not like you, but I give you my word of honor that I have harbored nothing but positive thoughts regarding you or your contributions. Wow, I cannot fully express how much of a misunderstanding this is. God, I'm sorry. :/ J.delanoygabsadds 02:29, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

I was just dropping by to make a similar comment - your automated messages on this guy's talk page lack the leading double-hyphen (which I assume is what J.delanoy was trying to say), so it looks like "Say Headcheese!" is an emphatic end to the paragraph, rather than part of your signature. Given that the word 'headcheese' has another, more offensive meaning, I read it as a cheerily unpleasant "gotcha!", which might not be your intention. All credit to you for fighting the good fight against vandalism, though. --McGeddon (talk) 20:17, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

I won't use Huggle anymore. This should calm down most of you. I'm sorry for hurting you. Plus, I will give back my rollback rights because it'll be the only way to prevent me from using the tool. Additionally I will overthink my presence here, what may take a few days I guess. I will not do much contributions in the meanwhile though. I really hope it won't disturb you too much. --Say Headcheese!-hexaChord2 18:21, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Why did you undo my edit to the Perils of Pauline page?

Why did you undo my edit to the The Perils of Pauline (1914 serial) page? You said it was "vandalism" and that I provided no information as to why I made the update. I did in fact try my best to provide an explanation within the 200 word limit.

There are several longstanding rumors about this film which go back to the 1930's-1940's time frame. There is no reason for rumors or "urban legends" about films to be repeated on wikipedia. In this particular case, a private company has been claiming a "famous" scene from this film was made along their rail line. That info along with links for this company were on this wikipedia page. The problem is that the scene they are alluding to was ever in this film.

I have made several attempts to delete bogus information on this and another old film, only to have people not knowledgable of the subject matter revert the pages back and accuse me of vanadlism.

I am not angry, just a bit frustrated that sincere attemps to improve the accuracy of this resource have been so quickly slapped down.

98.169.176.69 (talk) 21:20, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

The problem is: You don't have a source for your statement. I don't know if you're right or not but the section in the article has a source. Find a good source or ask for one on the article's talkpage. ----Say Headcheese!-hexaChord2 21:25, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

I am not adding info into the body of the article itself which would need a cited source. I thought the best way to deal with a rumor is to just not mention them at all. The problem is that this company has made a false claim on a website which is then cited as a source.

Surely there must be a wikipedia method to handle this? Otherwise every false claim on the internet on any subject could be added to wikipedia and there would be no possible method to remove it. There can't be "correction" sources to cite for every rumor that can be cited on the internet on any subject. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.169.176.69 (talk) 21:50, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Contribute equals Vandalism

I guess you're an overworked and probably upaid volunteer wanting to protect the wiki community, and I appreciate that. Occasionally I contribute something to a wiki, and most times it just ends up summarily deleted by someone who doesn't follow the recommendation on this talk page to "assume good faith." I'm sad about that, because to me it means wiki still hasn't grown into a mature tool for collaborative information sharing. Just in case you actually read this, and are interested in feedback, please convey to your team my refreshed disappointment in and fading hope for wiki. I have no interest in advertising or selling anything, nor in adding inaccurate info to wiki. If you have some sort of Detested Contributor List, feel free to add me so as to save us all some time by immediately and automatically deleting anything I'm moved to share. That way I can move from inspired to discouraged more quickly. :) Jw4nvc (talk) 04:59, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

I don't know your problems but you still can upload your copyrighted photos to Wikimedia Commons. BTW: I've got nothing to do with Upaid.----Happy new Headcheese!-hexaChord2 05:14, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

My problem is wanting ease in contributing to wiki, and you presumably want ease in maintaining it. It's much easier for me to put in external links to those of my photos others might enjoy, than to dig into posting them directly in wiki and sorting out the legalities of that. If my adding them as external links is a problem for you, no worries. While they're copyrighted, that's only for my ease in preventing others from making money on them. I make nothing (zero) when someone follows a link to freely view and download them for Fair Use.

Deleted from my Talk page (still there in History naturally):

Of course this single edit does not constitute vandalism but since our friend did several similiar edits without reacting it was the only way to stop him.----Happy new Headcheese!-hexaChord2 05:16, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm glad to have clarity on this being the way wiki responds to a "friend" trying to contribute. I might get hopeful again sometime and try contributing to see if it's gotten any easier, but meanwhile consider me stopped. Hope the coming year brings us all much happiness and many welcome challenges. :) Jw4nvc (talk) 05:30, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, if you want it that easy of course you can have it that easy. As mentioned before you might have a look on pages like WP:EL, WP:COI, MOS:LINK etc. It will ease your wiki life, be sure! ----Happy new Headcheese!-hexaChord2 05:50, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

As "unconstructive" as the particular edit I made to the Here documents page was, there was no need to revert it. Humor is how people stay awake while reading about such things as computer programming. Since the part that I edited was merely an example, it did no harm to the article itself and the subtle joke might have made someone laugh at some point in the future. If you'd like to explain to me how how changing the occupation of an example character (who happened to already be named Joe) from a programmer to a plumber would hinder someone's learning about here docs then please, share. The example is poorly written anyway... It has Joe first learning about the topic then being the "go-to guy" on the subject a line later. If you want to do something useful then fix the example but don't ruin other's fun simply because you lack the basic art of humor. Danman111111 (talk) 12:45, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

I thank you for the effort, and I know that reverting vandalism is hard work, but it doesn't justify stupidity. The very last sentence of the page is: "On occasion, Barry will eat a random assortment of berries. Never in color order" This is completely random. But I guess you, Mr. Administrator, don't want any help in editing. So I'm done with Wikipedia. --67.84.207.247 (talk) 00:25, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, if you're editing for years why are you destroying my talk page then?[18] A pro like you should know where to hit the "new section" button, shouldn't he? Next, I'm no Admin and don't want to be one. There's yet enough neurotics around on Wikipedia. I guess these are very important statements [19] [20] [21] But again, what exactly is your disorder?--Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 00:36, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello. Sorry to interrupt your Huggling, but I just wanted to make you aware of a recent edit, here, which you identified as vandalism. I'm not sure whether this was a case of vandalism - the users intention isn't to mess things up. (What he is here for is a different story.) I know it was probably a simple mistake, I just wanted to keep you informed. Cheers! » \ / () 13:32, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

It was vandalism since he removed the tag by CorenSearchBot.[22][23]--Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 13:37, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Pages getting deleted

I'm trying in good faith to add information to the wiki and before I have the chance to hit save I'm getting pages deleted. I believe I need a disambiguation page for Richard Lynch as THERE ARE MORE THAN ONE. I set up the disambiguation page, moved the current content to Richard Lynch (Actor) and added a second link to Richard Lynch (Photoshop Author). Everything was reverted/deleted within about a minute.

If you don't allow contributions, there is no way the wiki can grow and be accurate. A little patience between creating the page and deletions might also be useful as there may need to be updates...

Please let me know what is going on: thebookdoc@aol.com

Thebookdoc (talk) 15:23, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Actually, you should have moved Richard Lynch to Richard Lynch (actor) to save the article's edit history. I fixed that for you. Another possibility would have been a short tag on top of the article like the one on Brian Carroll. Edit summaries are welcomed, too.--Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 15:38, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

I am pretty sure that this, and similar edits like it, were entirely constructive. Whether they were a good idea is open to debate, but the correct course of action is not to revert their edits and issue a vandalism warning. I removed some of the content in your newsletter as it is not important and not to the point, and the image is way too large. I've been reversed twinkled

Thanks - actually, I was just about to head over to TW help as I'm not seeing any new tabs. The my monobook seems ok:

.mw-plusminus-pos {display: none;}
.mw-plusminus-neg {display: none;}
.mw-plusminus-null {display: none;}
.history-size {display: none;}
importScript('User:AzaToth/twinkle.js');

I did the full refresh, and exited/restarted FireFox (ver 3.0.6) but still nothing. I need to work on another project for a while and so will leave your "present" on my home page for now. When I have time I'll dig around to see where TW is. I also did a view-source and there are no references to AzaToth or twinkle. --Marc Kupper|talk 00:23, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

February 2009

Welcome, and thank you for your attempt to lighten up Wikipedia. However, this is an encyclopedia and the articles are intended to be serious, so please don't make joke edits, as you did to User:Marc_Kupper. Readers looking for accurate information will not find them amusing. If you'd like to experiment with editing, try the sandbox, where you can write (almost) whatever you want. There is no "Use of proper humor option". I could not get TW working via the monobook method but Preferences / Gadgets works. Now I need to figure out enabling FireFox pop-ups. It tried to pop-up your talk page and before I could hit the options button something timed out and so I went here manually. Thank you - TW certainly speeds up the process. --Marc Kupper|talk 06:07, 27 February 2009 (UTC) --Marc Kupper|talk 06:07, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Could you please play your puzzles on other editors' talkpages, e.g. your own? --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 13:09, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
I received some sort of warning (from somebody) about two things (me writing personal analysis and me putting up promotional material). Both of these make little sense to me. This is what I'm pointing to: if you want to warn me (i.e. telling me not to do something that violates or breaches some policies), go ahead, but please explain specifically what I should or should not do (i.e. which sentences that I wrote were not appropriate). Pamarro251 (talk) 04:14, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
On second thoughts, my apologies for the above tone as I am not too sure who was the one sending me the two messages on my talkpage. Anyway, a user on the Jones Lang LaSalle's talkpage (which appears to be the same as the user 121.44.27.172 above but I'm not too sure -- my apologies if I'm wrong) has violated several Wikipedia guidelines, including assuming good faith and positive tone, as well as making false allegations (i.e. vandalism). I suggest a warning be issued to this user. Pamarro251 (talk) 06:32, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Reversion on Guns N' Roses

You reverted a valid edit on this article here and you labeled it as vandalism. You clearly do not understand what WP:Vandalism is. I strongly suggest you read it. You actually reverted valid information. See this magazine article. You could probably find a better source if you tried. I suggest you apologize to 69.127.134.121 (talk · contribs) and strike the warning from the talk page. Toddst1 (talk) 01:44, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Welll, that is the point. The list is about "hard rock" and not "heavy metal". Note that GNR related articles get filled with unsourced "heavy metal" claims all the time. Also see this edit. --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 01:50, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
The editor clearly has a problem with the difference between hard rock and heavy metal, but it was not vandalism. You're free to undo the edit, but labeling it vandalism isn't right at all. Toddst1 (talk) 02:08, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
This list is based upon internet votes [28], thus clearly failing WP:RS. I can withdraw my claim for "improper humour" and change it to "factual error" or, if a source is provided, "spam" - as you wish. I like "improper humour", though. It does not sound as harsh. --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 02:15, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
You should know what vandalism is. The fact that VH1 ranked it #1 based on votes does not mean facts about the event aren't from WP:RS at all - you have to look at the source cited. You should know that too.
I have not seen a reliable source for that claim. The best thing I've seen so far was the VH1 site itself, where one can still vote.--Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 03:23, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
That being said, this good revert of yours was definitely vandalism and also a WP:BLP violation and could have easily warranted a uw-4im for defamation instead of improper humor.
I'm really not trying to bust your chops here, but these are important points - especially since you're a rollbacker. Toddst1 (talk) 03:11, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Just have a look at the history of Axl Rose (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) - you could block about half of the world for calling him a douchebag. But at least I do not warn the wrong editor as you did - if you want to play that kind of game... --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 03:23, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
We all make mistakes. I will make more. Some of us take responsibility for them. Based on the above discussion - specifically your reactions and lack of responsibility, I have removed rollback from this account. Toddst1 (talk) 03:35, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes, we all make mistakes, but if this is the only answer you can give... Thank you. --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 03:39, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Well, this is a sorry situation. I have come across HexaChord whilst monitoring AIV and always found their reports to be 100% accurate and appropriate, so if this is just an argument about a misplaced warning/edit summary which has resulted in their rollback rights being revoked, I think it is more of a loss to the community than a fitting "punishment". If you would like me to ask Toddst1 to reconsider, please let me know, HexaChord. – B.hoteptalk16:00, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
