Update from official adoptee! (noob question)
Just through I'd cross-post this question here in case you knew the answer! Basically -- where do clueless Wikipedians go to request a pic be added to a highly-viewed page? LaceyUF (talk) 00:56, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

WikiCup 2021 September newsletter
The fourth round of the competition has finished with over 500 points being required to qualify for the final round. It was a hotly competitive round with two contestants, The Rambling Man and Epicgenius, each scoring over 3000 points, and six contestants scoring over 1000. All but one of the finalists achieved one or more FAs during the round, the exception being Bloom6132 who demonstrated that 61 "in the news" items produces an impressive number of points. Other contestants who made it to the final are Gog the Mild, Lee Vilenski, BennyOnTheLoose, Amakuru and Hog Farm. However, all their points are now swept away and everyone starts afresh in the final round.
Round 4 saw the achievement of 18 featured articles and 157 good articles. Bilorv scored for a 25-article good topic on Black Mirror but narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final round. There was enthusiasm for FARs, with 89 being performed, and there were 63 GARs and around 100 DYKs during the round. As we start round 5, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it to the final round; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. For other contestants, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.
If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Question from Gaylord Du Bois (01:37, 27 September 2021)
Hi, Dave Porta here. I had an account 20 years ago, but... You know.
How do I change the title of the Gaylord DuBois to Gaylord Du Bois on my Android?
Every time I see someone refer to him as Gaylord DuBois, I say to myself, It's because of that damned Wikipedia entry. People Google and the Wikipedia entry influences the Google results. If they type gaylord dubois, Google doesn't ask them Did you mean Gaylord Du Bois. I asked about doing this after the page was first created, back in the day, but was told then that it would involve changing links in Wikipedia.
But that no longer seems to be an issue. Links on other Wikipedia pages with either spelling take one to the page.
Since Du Bois was the preferred (albeit not consistent) spelling by Du Bois... And because his transcribed Account Books, copyrighted under his name, are titled Gaylord Du Bois's Account Books Sorted by Title compiled from the original account books by Randall W. Scott (Michigan State University Libraries 1985) 203 leaves ; 28 cm. -- Photocopy of computer printout. -- Call no.: PN6727.D77 A2S35 1985. Copyright 1985 Gaylord Du Bois.
See the inconsistency between the Heritage Auctions' listing, and the actual document?
It's the influence of the damned Wikipedia title.
Now look at all the entries at comics.org - correct.
There's plenty of examples works he wrote credited to him. It's not always consistent, is written both ways (during his lifetime) but in later life his small publisher (Eyrie) limited print run works were with the the Du Bois spelling.
A walk around Whallons Bay, New York with Gaylord Du Bois
Walk Among the Poems of Gaylord Du Bois (1982, Eyrie)
And go back to his first published fiction, the first printing of the first Lone Ranger novel:

September 2021 Guild of Copy Editors newsletter
Guild of Copy Editors September 2021 Newsletter
Hello and welcome to the September GOCE newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since June 2021. Current and upcoming events
September Drive: Our current backlog-elimination drive is open until 23:59 on 30 September (UTC) and is open to all copy editors. Sign up today! Drive and Blitz reports
June Blitz: From 20 to 26 June, 6 participating editors claimed 16 copy edits, focusing on requests and articles tagged in March and April. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. July Drive: Almost 575,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event. Of the 24 people who signed up, 18 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here. August Blitz: From 15 to 21 August, we copy edited articles tagged in April and May 2021 and requests. 9 participating editors completed 17 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Other news
June election: Jonesey95 was chosen to continue as lead coordinator, assisted by Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis. New maintenance template added to our project scope: After a short discussion in June, we added {{cleanup tense}} to the list of maintenance templates that adds articles to the Guild's copy editing backlog categories. This change added 198 articles, spread over 97 months of backlog, to our queue. We processed all of those articles except for those from the three or four most recent months during the July backlog elimination drive (Here's a link to a "tense" discussion during the drive). Progress report: As of 18:26, 24 September 2021 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have processed 468 requests since 1 January and there were 60 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog of articles tagged for copy-editing stood at 433 (see monthly progress graph above). Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis. To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

Question from MrVyousee (15:59, 5 October 2021)
Thanks for the offer. I am a teacher trying to guide students through the required steps and skills to contribute to Wikipedia. We started to practice by developing our school entry. We made edits in good faith, though perhaps not up to standard, but they were quickly and entirely deleted, going so far as to reduce the page substantially below how we found it.
I don't want any easing of the standard, but I want to know if there is a better way, more respectful to Wikipedia, to go about training them? Any advice on this, or is it just trial and error, which is fine, but I don't want our efforts confused with vandalism.
MrVyousee (talk) 15:59, 5 October 2021 (UTC)Thanks
- Hi MrVyousee, thanks for trying to bring Wikipedia into more education institutes, you might find https://wikiedu.org/ extremely useful.
- Wikipedia definitely encourages trial and error, but it's equally important that you are familiar with some basic policies first, here's some pages that might be useful:
- As a general rule, do not directly edit articles you have a conflict of interest with.
- pinging Ian (Wiki Ed) (Guettarda) who is definitely more qualified than me to answer this. Justiyaya 19:49, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Question from RebeccaAgnesS (00:25, 7 November 2021)
Hi EricPupper, thanks for being my mentor. I have written an article for Wikipedia and I'm having a bit of trouble getting started. I'm hoping you might help. I don't seem to be figuring out how to submit this article for review. I thought I was following the directions and it was published awaiting review. Then the next day it was gone. I tried again and the first one reappeared.
I think I now have one. On the top line, I clicked on my user name: RebeccaAgnesS. On the left hand tab. I have Talk and the right hand tab is Read. The page is called User:RebeccaAgnesS. The first line says, "I hope I'm doing this correctly."
I also submitted the same article with a different intro paragraph. I clicked on Sandbox on the top line. On the next line, the tabs are User page and also Read. It starts out by saying, "I don't know how to link . . . . " Would you mind telling me if either of these submissions is done correctly. And what would you suggest I do next. Thanks, RebeccaAgnesS --RebeccaAgnesS (talk) 00:25, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @RebeccaAgnesS, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your grammatical contributions in existing articles. As for your draft article on Dr. Michael E. Kerr, it looks like you created a draft in your user sandbox, and on your user talk page. Your user talk page is where other users can leave messages for you, usually, it is not intended for drafts :). I would remove the content on your user talk page.
- Your draft on the user sandbox looks appropriate, however, it was not submitted for review. If you'd like to submit the article for review, click on the big blue button at the top of the page that says "Submit your draft for review!" and follow the instructions.
- It also looks like you were wondering about linking to external websites. I highly recommend you use the VisualEditor. It's a more visual way to edit pages instead of having to use a complex language called "wikitext" (which is what you were using when you created the original draft). To enable VisualEditor, click here, and uncheck "Temporarily disable the visual editor while it is in beta". When on your sandbox, you should now see two tabs, "edit" and "edit source". You can click on "edit" to edit visually. Here's some helpful instructions on how to add links in VisualEditor. Let me know if anything doesn't work!
- Have a great day,

Question from Henry Flowers (21:00, 17 November 2021)
Hello EpicPupper: I am a member of a rock band called The Spelvins, formed in the 1980's. I have added text to the George Spelvin page, indicating that the band took its name from George. However, there is no page for The Spelvins, which was part of the New York City scene from the 1980's into the 90's. BMG released an album in 1993, and the band reformed to release a self-produced album in 2020. Both albums are available via Spotify, iTunes, etc. I have a draft of a short blurb on the band. What do I do now? Many thanks for your help.-Henry --Henry Flowers (talk) 21:00, 17 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Henry Flowers, you expressed intent on creating a page for "The Spelvins", however, "The Spelvins" does not appear to be a notable topic. Conflict of interest editing, or editing about things which you have a conflict of interest to, is strongly discouraged. December 2021 GOCE Newsletter
Guild of Copy Editors December 2021 Newsletter
Hello and welcome to the December GOCE newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since September 2021. Current and upcoming events
Election time: Our end-of-year election of coordinators opened for nominations on 1 December and will close on 15 December at 23:59 (UTC). Voting opens at 00:01 the following day and will continue until 31 December at 23:59, just before "Auld Lang Syne". Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought of helping out at the Guild, or know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here. December Blitz: We have scheduled a week-long copy-editing blitz for 12 to 18 December. Sign up now! Drive and Blitz reports
September Drive: Almost 400,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event. Of the 27 people who signed up, 21 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here. October Blitz: From 17 to 23 October, we copy edited articles tagged in May and June 2021 and requests. 8 participating editors completed 26 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. November Drive: Over 350,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event. Of the 21 people who signed up, 14 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here. Other news
It is with great sadness that we report the death on 19 November of Twofingered Typist, who was active with the Guild almost daily for the past several years. His contributions long exceeded the thresholds for the Guild's highest awards, and he had a hand in innumerable good and featured article promotions as a willing collaborator. Twofingered Typist also served as a Guild coordinator from July 2019 to June 2021. He is sorely missed by the Wikipedia community. Progress report: As of 30 November, GOCE copyeditors have completed 619 requests in 2021 and there were 51 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog stood at 946 articles tagged for copy-editing (see monthly progress graph above).

Question from BostonCardSharks (09:33, 22 December 2021)
Hi, EpicPupper. I have just submitted a new page for review of a card game that we have created. Do you know roughly how long this would take to be approved and available to search online?
Thank you --BostonCardSharks (talk) 09:33, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hi BostonCardSharks, it appears that you have a conflict of interest regarding the draft, please disclose it, thanks! Justiyaya 10:43, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
Hi @justiyaya, the latest edit has the edit summary confirming that I fixed a mistake in the rules of the final round of the card game that we created. It was a personal error on my part in the initial publication. Thanks BostonCardSharks (talk) 11:48, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- @BostonCardSharks No... I don't think you understood my request correctly, so let me rephrase:
- I believe that you are employed by the organization that created Gary In A Box, the subject of your draft, or is, at the very least, closely related off-wiki (outside of Wikipedia) to the organization. This constitutes a conflict of interest (COI), and in accordance to our guidelines, you are expected to disclose it via the templates below on the talk page of the effected draft:
- Paid contributor
{{Connected contributor (paid)|User1=Username of the paid editor|U1-employer=Name of person/organization that is paying for the edits|U1-client= Name of client|U1-otherlinks=Insert diff to disclosure on your User page.}}
- Other COIs
{{Connected contributor|User1=Your username |U1-declared=yes| U1-otherlinks=(Optional) Insert relevant affiliations, disclosures, article drafts or diffs showing COI contributions.}}
- Alternatively posting
{{UserboxCOI|1=Wikipedia article name}}
on your userpage would also be sufficient- If this is too complicated, feel free to ask me to do it for you Justiyaya 12:50, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for the clarification. There is no organisation and I am not employed or paid regarding this post. This game was created by my group of friends and we wanted to share it on your platform.
However if this still requires a disclosure of some sort please would you help me with it to make sure the draft is compliant for submission?
Thank you BostonCardSharks (talk) 15:04, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- @BostonCardSharks Thanks for adding the disclosure to your userpage, now, regarding the draft, please make sure that it meets our WP:General notability guidelines and you inserted references to back up all of your claims, be sure to use reliable sources and have a neutral tone while writing. If you want me to help with improving the draft, please first demonstrate (by providing links to two or three reliable, independent sources that provide significant coverage to the topic) that the topic meets our notability guidelines, if you want to improve Wikipedia through other means, try to complete some tasks or check out this useful introduction. If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask them here or on my talk page, thanks! Justiyaya 15:58, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- Fully agree with Justiyaya! Have a great day BostonCardSharks! 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 23:26, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

WikiCup & the Good Article Nomination Backlog Drive
Hi there, you're receiving this note because you're currently signed up for the 2022 WikiCup and don't yet have any points in the competition. As you may know, scoring any points in the first round is traditionally sufficient to advance to the second, and a fast way to get 5 points is to complete a good article review. Given that the January 2022 Good Article Nomination Backlog Drive is active for another 10 days, you might be interested in pitching in. Complete one review, and you'll be on to the next round in WikiCup; complete two or three, and you'll also be eligible to win some barnstars. As always, quality reviews with attention to detail are expected. Cheers, --Usernameunique (talk) 19:43, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Page mover granted
Hello, EpicPupper. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.
Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect
is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.
Useful links:
- Wikipedia:Requested moves
- Category:Requested moves, for article renaming requests awaiting action.
If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! – Muboshgu (talk) 17:34, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

They are difficult to prove for sure, but if they are from the living person one is writing about, and that person is a public figure are they ok as a last resort? Thanks for guidance. Thanks for volunteering to help with Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/DoggoBot 5. If there's a way to "withdraw" the request, this would be a good time to do so, since I did all those changes with JWB already. It's weird to me that Primefac decided to take on the request, given that he has explicitly said he disagrees with MOS:CAPS at a recent RM discussion; he slow-walked it until another anti-MOS guy showed up. Weird process, after all the work I went through to get a clear consensus for these changes. No matter, now that it's done. Dicklyon (talk) 05:07, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
WikiCup 2022 March newsletter
And so ends the first round of the WikiCup. Last year anyone who scored more than zero points moved on to Round 2, but this was not the case this year, and a score of 13 or more was required to proceed. The top scorers in Round 1 were:
- Epicgenius, a finalist last year, who led the field with 1906 points, gained from 32 GAs and 19 DYKs, all on the topic of New York buildings.
- AryKun, new to the contest, was second with 1588 points, having achieved 2 FAs, 11 GAs and various other submissions, mostly on the subject of birds.
- Bloom6132, a WikiCup veteran, was in third place with 682 points, garnered from 51 In the news items and several DYKs.
- GhostRiver was close behind with 679 points, gained from achieving 12 GAs, mostly on ice hockey players, and 35 GARs.
- Kavyansh.Singh was in fifth place with 551 points, with an FA, a FL, and many reviews.
- SounderBruce was next with 454 points, gained from an FA and various other submissions, mostly on United States highways.
- Ktin, another WikiCup veteran, was in seventh place with 412 points, mostly gained from In the news items.
These contestants, like all the others who qualified for Round 2, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews of a large number of good articles as the contest ran concurrently with a GAN backlog drive. Well done all! To qualify for Round 3, contestants will need to finish Round 2 among the top thirty-two participants.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Anything that should have been claimed for in Round 1 is no longer eligible for points. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.
Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. I'm trying to find Wikipedia's rules about adding a short audio clip of a song which was written about the topic in the article. The song is copyrighted but from what I understand "fair use" rules legally allow usage like this. --Ashleedawg (talk) 11:57, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Ashleedawg! Yep, fair use content is allowed on Wikipedia. Just navigate to the File Upload Wizard and click on "Upload a non-free file"! Make sure to select the correct copyright option. Cheers, 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 19:15, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
Surprising close
Hi there,
Regarding this very recent close, did you maybe press the wrong button? The turn-out was low but pretty emphatically against the move.
Best regards, Favonian (talk) 20:05, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Favonian, yeah, I accidentally pressed the wrong button! Thanks so much for leaving a note. I've corrected the close. Cheers, 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 20:12, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
Hello, EpicPupper,
I'm not exactly sure what happened here but somehow you moved this page and yet left an identical copy of the page, minus its page history, at the original talk page title. I do a search for orphaned talk pages and this one popped up and I deleted it. But it trying to see why it was orphaned, I saw that you moved it, without leaving a redirect, and yet there was an edit from you recreating it. Unfortunately, you can't see the page history as it is a deleted edit, but I thought I'd let you know.
If this happens again with any of your page moves, we should probably seek advice from the more technically-minded editors at WP:VPT to see if there is a problem with our page moving tools. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 23:40, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Liz, thanks for letting me know. I'm not quite sure what happened their either. If it occurs again I'll be sure to request assistance. Thanks, 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 23:45, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
New Technology report
Hello! First of all, thanks for your tweaks in the text about the Community Wishlist Survey. As Community Tech, we have a lot to do to make sure people are aware of this change. We'll work on that.
I'd like to ask about something else, though. Within a few months, the Web team, the other team I work with, would like to ask the English Wikipedia community to adopt the Desktop Improvements. Almost all features are ready. We only need to move the article tools menu ("What links here" etc.) from the sidebar and make tweaks here and there.
Would you be interested in writing something about this project, obviously with my support whenever needed? @Evad37:? SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 17:10, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @SGrabarczuk (WMF)! I'd be happy to write a piece about Desktop Improvements in the next Technology Report. I had actually planned to write it for last issue, but decided to hold off. I'll start it this week. Cheers, 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 18:38, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
File mover granted
Hello EpicPupper. Your account has been granted the "filemover" user right, either following a request for it or due to a clear need for the ability to move files. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:File mover for more information on this user right and under what circumstances it is okay to move files. When you move a file please remember to update any links to the new name as well! If you do not want the file mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! -- TNT (talk • she/her) 00:02, 9 March 2022 (UTC)

I don't know how to enter footnotes onto text copy. Could you advise? --Mary Llewellyn McNeil (talk) 17:37, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Mary Llewellyn McNeil! This page has some helpful information. I also recommend you use VisualEditor; it's much easier to use. Happy editing! 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 20:55, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

On your sandbox, can people edit it, or only you? --TheAutoRecorderAlt (talk) 20:48, 10 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @TheAutoRecorderAlt, and welcome to Wikipedia! Others can edit your sandbox, but it is generally considered impolite to do so without permission. Happy editing! 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 20:52, 10 March 2022 (UTC)
Hi, thank you for your RM close at this article. It appears that the close was left incomplete, though; the article still needs to be moved to Panda (song). 162 etc. (talk) 16:26, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

POSTMOVE cleanup
Hello, EpicPupper,
Just dropping a note that in your WP:POSTMOVE cleanup for King (song), you created a circular link at King (disambiguation). Just letting you know. Sometimes dabs need some post-move love, too. Happy editing! -2pou (talk) 04:08, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

Why Mixed doubles?
I noticed a bunch of changes you are making to the term "Mixed" in tennis articles. There is no Mixed Singles so why do we need Mixed Doubles? I don't think this has any kind of consensus to change to a longer format. Fyunck(click) (talk) 22:36, 13 March 2022 (UTC)

A barnstar for you
The Original Barnstar | ||
Hi EpicPupper, I guess you may be surprised to get a barnstar from me right now. But I really do want to thank you for the exceptional civility and openness with which you have responded to my complaints about your Signpost editorial on Ukraine. I know from experience that it is very tough being under pressure as you have been in the last few hours, but you have have shown exceptional grace under pressure. I think we still disagree on the substance, but your willingness to openly explain how this situation arose has been thoroughly admirable and enormously helpful. It not only helps to calm things now, but builds understanding which is likely to help the community find ways forward and build consensus. Thank you, and best wishes. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 01:18, 28 March 2022 (UTC) |
- Hi @BrownHairedGirl, thank you for the barnstar. I really appreciate the energy you bring to Wikipedia and your advocacy for the project. I strongly believe in open, civil communication, and hope that we can resolve this concern together satisfactorily. Best wishes, 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 01:57, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, Epic.
- And huge thanks for your excellent revised editorial. It is a very fine and succinct expression of the values which underpin Wikipedia. You have handled the situation exceptionally well, as well as I have seen any editor handle such difficulty in the 16 years I have been involved. I have left a longer comment on the talk page.
- With you onboard, the Signpost is in good hands. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:36, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Humor for next month's Signpost?
Hi! I saw you've already created a Humor column for April's Signpost - a Wordle-like game sounds fun! I had also thought that Wikipedia:Huge message boxes might be a fun one to share, but if you are working on something already, it can easily wait until May or June. Let me know if the Wordle wiki game is going ahead this month! Ganesha811 (talk) 18:28, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Ganesha811! I'm quite busy this month, so I could use some more time to perfect the Wordle game. The huge message boxes idea sounds great for this issue! Cheers!
- P.S., I'd like to thank you for reviewing the GAN at Doukhobors two years ago (ish). The GAN was one of my first contributions (back when I was named DoggieTimesTwo), and the advice provided there was quite helpful. Thanks a ton! 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 18:35, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
- Alright, good to know, I'll usurp the Humor space for this month. As to Doukhobors, of course, I remember the review well! It was a very interesting article, even if we couldn't get it to GA standard then, and I'm sure it'll get there eventually. It's definitely looking improved from how I remember it. DYK for Elendil
On 7 April 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Elendil, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that J. R. R. Tolkien invented Elendil for a time-travel story, but ultimately included the character in his main Middle-earth mythology? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Elendil. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Elendil), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Closing of Uitenhage Move Request
Hello EpicPupper, would you be willing to reopen the move request for Uitenhage? Only two users had voiced their opinion and I believe more input would be helpful. Local media seems to almost exclusively use the name "Kariega" and the sources I cited support that claim. I believe more input would present a clearer picture. I know that i havent asked you anything in 2 months, but, how come War crimes in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine only have Russian war crimes? Where are the Ukrainian war crimes? Not to mention the other articles say that the Russian kills are "claimed" and all the Ukraine kills aren't. I say the whole tree of articles in the 2022 Russian Invasion of Ukraine section is biased toward Ukraine when Ukraine is actually worse, forcing all men from 18-65 to fight and having legitimate Nazis on their side. --KingAviationKid (talk) 13:42, 15 April 2022 (UTC)

- Hi @Adam Cuerden! Still working on an article, but the info you provided is great. Will finish it before publication deadline (on Sunday PST). 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 18:06, 21 April 2022 (UTC)
- by the way, this was reported in 2014. https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T68606 Which is just ridiculous. The arguments against fixing it in that but report have to rank as the stupidest and most infuriating I've ever seen. If they can't do it right, if they admit they can't do it right, then there's absolutely nothing forcing them to not just put a "See file description page". What I honestly suspect is going to happen is they'll carry on until someone sues them for breaking Creative Commons with Media Viewer by failing to credit one of the authors of a multi-author work. Does any people go to the IP? --Koqkpa (talk) 15:47, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Koqkpa! I'm not quite sure I understand your question. Could you perhaps rephrase it to clarify? Thanks so much! 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 16:42, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
I mean that when you sign into a guest account it reveals your IP, so does someone acutally go to the IP? Koqkpa (talk) 03:33, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hello @Koqkpa! Your IP address will be revealed for everyone to see if you edit while logged out. I can't answer the question of how many people will see it, though; but it most likely will remain in the archives forever, unless you request it to be removed after registering an account. Question from Koqkpa (09:26, 1 May 2022)
Make me a AfC reviewer pls --Koqkpa (talk) 09:26, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Koqkpa! As noted on the Articles for Creation participants page, AfC reviewers must have an account at least 90 days old and have at least 500 undeleted edits to articles. Once you meet this criteria, you can follow the instructions here, although I would highly recommend getting well-versed in other areas of the encyclopedia first. Hope that helped! 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 10:04, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

- @Koqkpa, did you mean editing with an IP? Unfortunately that doesn't count for the criteria :) If you had previously registered an account, you should disclose it on your user page. 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 10:32, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
Why do all my pages get canceled? Koqkpa (talk) 11:01, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hiya @Koqkpa! You can find the rationale for declined AfC submissions in the decline message. It looks like some of your submissions were declined because they were not backed up by reliable sources; perhaps that page would be of note. Cheers, 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 12:10, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

Question from Koqkpa (04:40, 3 May 2022)
How'd you become a mentor? Is Fandom good? --Koqkpa (talk) 04:40, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Koqkpa! The mentorship system is built on the Wikimedia Foundation's Wikipedia:Growth Team features. To sign up, mentors place their name on this list. You need to have at least 500 edits and an account that is at least 30 days old to sign up. I would recommenced you gain some further experience with Wikipedia before signing up, however
- Fandom is a wiki farm founded by the same creator as Wikipedia. It's evolved to become a completely different system, though. I personally dislike it due to the gamey-like interface, difficulty of technical customization and toxic culture, but some are active contributors to projects there, and I respect that. If you'd like to host your own wiki on a platform, I recommend Miraheze. Cheers! 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 04:45, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

WikiCup 2022 May newsletter
The second round of the 2022 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 115 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top seven contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 11 featured articles and the 79 good articles achieved in total by contestants.
Our top scorers in round 2 were:
- Epicgenius, with 1264 points from 2 featured article, 4 good articles and 18 DYKs. Epicgenius was a finalist last year but has now withdrawn from the contest as he pursues a new career path.
- AryKun, with 1172 points from two featured articles, one good article and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews.
- Bloom6132, with 605 points from 44 in the news items and 4 DYKs.
- Sammi Brie, with 573 points from 8 GAs and 21 DYKs.
- Ealdgyth, with 567 points from 11 GAs and 34 good and featured article reviews.
- Panini!, with 549 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and several other sources.
- Lee Vilenski, with 545 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and a number of reviews.
The rules for featured and good article reviews require the review to be of sufficient length; brief quick fails and very short reviews will generally not be awarded points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. "Maybe" is a single from American band N*E*R*D's second studio album, Fly or Die (2004). The song features Lenny Kravitz on guitar and Questlove on drums. It peaked at number 25 in the United Kingdom, number 31 in Ireland, and number 34 in the Netherlands. The song was featured in an iPod commercial that also promoted the song.
A "Maybe" remix was released a year later in 2005 on rap duo Clipse's "We Got It 4 Cheap, Volume 2" mixtape. The song is a stylistic departure from the original song. The remix features Pharrell rapping over Outkast's "Elevators (Me & You)" instrumental.[1] Koqkpa (talk) 08:33, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
