note re your helpful post

[edit]

thanks for your great post at the Miscellaneous tab for Village Pump! I have left you a question there. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 17:45, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the kind invitation, but I'm afraid it would be impossible for me.
Also, re the following "mobile view" entry, I don't even know what source code or visual editor are. I just type, and preview to make sure it looks like I intended. WP is far too complicated for me to try to learn much about it. In the "Hannover" section immediately above yours at Village Pump Misc, I describe what I limit myself to here.
This handy autopreview on your page is great. Milkunderwood (talk) 04:07, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
[this is just a formatting test, replying to myself] Milkunderwood (talk) 04:28, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK, reply automatically indents with a colon. But this is not always working properly. Look at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ukraine#Far-right politics in Ukraine toward the last few entries that are all confusingly aligned. I'm guessing that autoindent inserts a maximum of seven colons. You will also need to set up an automatic left-align, whatever that's called, following your chosen maximum number of colons. Milkunderwood (talk) 04:42, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've been typing four tildes - I wonder if I don't, my username will be automatically entered. Yes, Preview does display it. Good. Milkunderwood (talk) 04:56, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
colon indent: 5 Milkunderwood (talk) 05:00, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
colon indent: 6 Milkunderwood (talk) 05:00, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
colon indent: 7 Milkunderwood (talk) 05:01, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Colon indent: ? Milkunderwood (talk) 05:01, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, that was eight colons - and then this should be nine?
In that case, the mess at the bottom of Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ukraine#Far-right politics in Ukraine is all user errors, nothing automatic built in. Sorry to run my experiment on your page. Milkunderwood (talk) 05:07, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ah! User:Sonicyouth86 figured it out, and is able to count past seven. Milkunderwood (talk) 09:33, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. Where can suggest issues/improvements regarding editin through mobile version of wikipedia? Kindly ping me while replying. Regards, —usernamekiran (talk) 18:27, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi usernamekiran! You can put your feedback on mw:Talk:VisualEditor on mobile. SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 21:22, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for the quick response Szymon. I always use source code mode, and not visual editor. But I will drop a note there someday soon (or related venue). Thanks again. See you around —usernamekiran (talk) 21:39, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A beer for you!

FAs with level 3+ sections

[edit]

Hi Szymon! Following up from the office hours, a PetScan search finds only 31 FAs out of 6000 that use level-3 sections, and only 7 that use level 4+. The numbers change on refresh, though, so I'm not sure if they're at all accurate or if the search tool is just funky. If it is less than 50, though, we can safely assume that they're a fairly rare occurrence in high-quality articles, so it's not too much of an issue if they don't look the best in the new ToC. Please pass along my thanks to the folks who have worked on the Vector skin option to allow maximum width

[edit]

I was one of the earliest editors to respond to the RfC about adopting the 2022 Vector skin in English Wikipedia opposing it with the fixed width as my primary concern. I really appreciate that the team took this feedback to heart and has already implemented an option to address it. Please along my thanks! ElKevbo (talk) 01:37, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you @ElKevbo, I'm happy to see your appreciation. I'll pass along your thanks. SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 02:37, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bug reports for Vector 2022

[edit]

Where do we report problems with functionality? Please ping with reply. Cheers, · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 19:34, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Pbsouthwood. The best places are mw:Talk:Reading/Web/Desktop Improvements and Phabricator with the Desktop Improvements (Vector 2022) tag. SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 21:00, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, SGrabarczuk. Not only in appreciation for great work on the years-long Vector 2022, but for suffering slings, arrows, incivility, and personal attacks because of it. — Fourthords | =Λ= | 23:14, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Horizontal scroll bar

[edit]

As per instructions at Wikipedia:Vector 2022 § What if I see a bug?, I created a section at the technical village pump regarding an issue I observed with the Vector 2022 skin on a non-mobile device (see Wikipedia:Village_pump (technical)#horizontal scroll bar in diff view with vector2022 when there is a long word). I was wondering if anyone from the Vector 2022 team had looked into this problem? Thanks for any help you can provide. isaacl (talk) 17:15, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! My colleagues say this problem should be fixed by now. Do you still experience it? SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 18:10, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the update. I no longer experience this issue—the behaviour is the same as with the original vector: in visual diff mode, there is a horizontal scrollbar to view the rest of the long URL, but the width of the main text flow is restricted by the width of the viewport. Text diff mode has no scroll bar. I appreciate your rapid response. isaacl (talk) 21:41, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Arbitration notification

[edit]

You are involved in a recently filed request for arbitration. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case#WikiMedia Foundation involvement in software deployment on the English Wikipedia and, if you wish to do so, enter your statement and any other material you wish to submit to the Arbitration Committee. As threaded discussion is not permitted on most arbitration pages, please ensure that you make all comments in your own section only. Additionally, the guide to arbitration and the Arbitration Committee's procedures may be of use.

Thanks, TomStar81 (Talk) 01:34, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello SGrabarczuk (WMF),

The case request about WikiMedia Foundation involvement in software deployment on the English Wikipedia has been declined by a majority of Wikipedia's arbitrators.

The request had been explicitly created as an "Ignore All Rules" request, but the Arbitration Committee disagrees about a need for ignoring its policies, which exclude "official actions of the Wikimedia Foundation or its staff" from its jurisdiction and define it as "as a final binding decision-maker primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve" in the "Scope and responsibilities" section. Its procedures describe an "expectation of prior dispute resolution" that hasn't been fulfilled yet.

For the Arbitration Committee,

Update on the user survey

[edit]

On the 14th of February, OVasileva said the WMF were looking into publishing the results of user survey in response to our request and would update us when you know more. Do you have an update for us? BilledMammal (talk) 15:47, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @BilledMammal. Right now, we don't have any update on this. I think this was our latest statement on this topic. Personally, I think it'd be good to put the inquiries about the details of the (misdesigned) sentiment survey in the context on why and how we use surveys. But it's just my opinion, not consulted with anyone. I'll ask the team if there's anything more we could share. Thanks for your patience. SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 17:29, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
