Dicte (TV series)

For the record, i created an article about the topic Dicte (TV series), a Danish TV show, and it eventually got fixed with a history merge. I had created it submitted it to AFC. Another editor, unaware of the draft, later created an article in mainspace on the topic, while my AFC submission was pending. Then my AFC submission was denied. I inquired about process, at AFC Help Desk (now archived at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk/Archives/2014 December 24#05:57:03, 24 December 2014 review of submission by Doncram. Then there was an MFD about deleting the draft. The other editor, User:Jbvejle, kindly acknowledged at Talk:Dicte (TV series)#From old Draft Talk that they were not aware of draft, and they then included material from the draft into the article. (Thanks, Jbvejle!). Eventually even my original draft got fully acknowledged by a history merge performed as result of the MFD. --doncram 00:08, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome, Doncram, and I'm glad you were able to merge these pages! Jbvejle (talk) 23:39, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Church of the Creator

What follows is some parts of discussion relating to Church of the Creator, an Oregon-based nice church, which had unfortunate previous Wikipedia treatment of its name being redirected to a not-nice racist White supremacist church organization in Illinois. I saw some of editor Bohemian Gal's good efforts to remedy the situation, without success previously, and was able to help. All settled within Wikipdia now I think, with new article on this Oregon church in mainspace and the unfortunate redirects removed, and other article edited by me to reduce unnecessary usage of Oregon church's name. Google search still shows Wikipedia's article about the racist organization, but I presume and hope the Google search results will update relatively soon. Hopefully all is good. --doncram 00:08, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

CoTC

Thank you thank you thank you!

It would be wonderful if you could get this published.

Not sure if you found this or not, but there is an entry on the church at the Finnish version of Wikipedia: https://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_the_Creator

Let me know if there's anything you need from me.

CotC -- a permanent entry???

Does this mean your article is permanent now and won't be deleted???

If so, I'm literally in tears and grateful beyond words.

Thank you again.

BTW: I have been forwarded another reference citation for the Church, if it's helpful:

Bohemian Gal (talk) 18:45, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi User:Bohemian Gal, I think the article is going to be okay now, yes, it is in mainspace (at Church of the Creator) and I think it is relatively safe now, i.e. not likely to be put up for AFD by anyone (though technically that could happen). My copying the longish just-deleted passage with 8 sources to Talk:Church of the Creator was partly to make it clear there are more sources that support the topic even if not currently in the article, towards heading off trouble. If you could add something more directly about the church rather than the trademark dispute into the article, either a direct quote in quotes or something in your own words, with source being that Walker 2007 source, that would be good, too. The Google selection of samples view that I get to see doesn't happen to show me anything about the Church of the Creator when i searched for it; maybe you have a different view allowed by Google books. It's rough getting started in Wikipedia in terms of gradually learning what is enough, with or without any "opposition"; i think this is enough to stand, any which way.
Well it's your article. :) I'm hardly in the edit history at all now, the way it was created by copy-pasting from Draft:Church of the Creator to the Church of the Creator. No big deal. :) Anyhow you had it to this point previously, which was reasonably good for a start (though would not stand up, sourcing and tone-wise). That version has stuff that I didn't get or sort out, e.g. in its History section by the way, that would be worth working in with sources. And you did a lot right in your explanations of the situation in the various proceedings, which moved me and especially now that I have seen most of them (and itemized most of them at Talk:Church of the Creator). And you got other supporters, including Cullen278. There was help, some, within those proceedings, though you didn't get the all help you deserved, IMHO. I'm happy you're happy. Really. :) --doncram 20:34, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
Given my lack of success with this project, I'm afraid to do anything to the article -- would probably cause it to be deleted (again) ;)

The main goal was just to get that redirect corrected, and you accomplished that. Again, thank you SO much.

Bohemian Gal (talk) 22:06, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

Thank you.

Your support, clarifications, knowledge in directing searches for "Church Of The Creator", to a Wikipedia page, information, that is related to the service and expression of our organization is most appreciated. It took a lot of effort to clarify that we are inclusive of every thinking-thought being on this planet. Bohemian Gal understood the confusion being created and relates that your effort was key to bringing that to closure within Wikipedia, a common goal of more truth for everyone. Thank you and may God Bless you in your service. Sincerely, Rev. Dr. James Germain URI, Vice-President & Director. TE-TA-MA Truth Foundation-Family Of URI, Inc. (talk) 22:09, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Well, thank you very much! I'm happy to have been of assistance. As I noted to Bohemian Gal already, I appreciated that she raised the issue several times, and did a good job expressing the issue and trying to resolve it properly; I'm glad I saw one of those instances and could help fix the situation. I'll comment briefly at your Talk page too. Cheers, --doncram 23:22, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Requested edits

Hello again --

I received a message requesting minor corrections to your Church of the Creator article and, given my "noob-ness" here, am reluctant to try them myself. Would you please review and make the edits as you see appropriate?

This was suggested as an introductory paragraph:

"Church Of The Creator® is a Christian-based faith organization currently headquartered in Ashland, Oregon. It is an operating name, within public ministry, for TE-TA-MA Truth Foundation-Family Of URI, Inc. a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation, first Chartered on July 14, 1975 as Grace House Prayer Ministry Inc., an unincorporated association established in 1969. "The Foundation" is notable for achieving protection of its Registered Trademark, the name Church Of The Creator® through legal proceedings, and its case is cited in intellectual property law."

Also:

If the fact that the name was changed from Grace House Prayer Ministry Inc. to TE-TA-MA Truth Foundation-Family Of URI, Inc. is considered relevant that date is February 23, 1977

(I've been given a .pdf document verifying the 1977 date, but am not sure if that's verifiable online or not.)

Thank you again!

Bohemian Gal (talk) 17:39, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm copying this info to Talk:Church of the Creator, which is now probably the best place to discuss refinements to the article, and I will respond there. --doncram 00:08, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
Once again, thank you for your assistance with this. Will take any further suggestions to the Church talk page. Happy 2015!

Good Morning, My apology for prior noncompliance with user name policy. Intent was to be direct, fully disclose. It appears that that prior user name is now blocked. Following suggestions given, have used a prior user name, to identify me personally, as the representative on subjects previously of record and in support to your efforts and those of Bohemian Gal.

In addition to the requested edits posted today relative first paragraph edits to Church Of The Creator, one other fact may or may not be relevant to Wikipedia, balanced edits.

•Church Of The Creator was first legally established as an ABN-Assumed Business Name, through registration by The Foundation with the State of Oregon, August 3, 1982, "Active," continuously since that date.

If this method or correcting facts is helpful, I can provide small file jpg or other file types of verification documentation as sent Bohemian Gal.

Effort on my part will continue to become more aware of Wikipedia policy. Again thank you. God Bless you in your service. Michael S. Legions (talk) 19:18, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

Okay, good. I do think the opening paragraph could/should be improved, but didn't understand facts and what is documented by sources well enough to do better. Do please discuss improvements at Talk:Church of the Creator. Thanks, --doncram 22:12, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

Doncram - today I noticed two edits by user Maproom, first deleting the ® symbol in the paragraph relative litigation establish Church Of The Creator® as a "descriptive", "distinct" name and within the Opinions of the US Court Of Appeals, the little symbol ® has a huge meaning within law. I do not want to argue with anyone about who recommended that this be deleted, but, it seems to overlook the symbol has legal weight, meaning, especially within an Appeal Court ruling on intellectual property issues. The Other Deletion of a spelling that is incorrect in the source "Mariam" corrected to "Miriam" can be verified in many on line searches of the same case by other sources, or by other Court Orders that established the name. I am writing here because I do not want to stir up anything with anybody at Wikipedia. Do what is best, as wisdom supporting Wikipedia, its policy, truth. Thanks for listening. Michael S. Thanks, User:Michael S. Legions! Okay, I added the image to the article Church of the Creator, so it is now used in an article. Apparently one policy is that non-free images are not wanted if they are not used in at least one article. And I tried refining the fair use statement that you had put into the image uploading, and I removed the complaint there that the file was unused ("orphaned") because now it is used. I wonder if the image should be replaced by a lower-resolution version of the image; that would apparently be better for use of a non-free image. If so, some editor here can probably reduce the resolution. Not sure who/where to ask for help with that right now. Hmm.
By the way, it looks to me like I or anyone else could have taken the image from the church's webpage and uploaded it (preferably a low-resolution version), with "fair use" justification. I feel it was better that you uploaded it though, thanks. I am not very familiar with use of non-free files; I have myself uploaded a lot of pics of historic buildings to commons.wikimedia.org for use in Wikipedia articles, but I uploaded those under a version of a free license, e.g. the Creative Commons license or another. --doncram 03:14, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

redirects/AfDs

Hi! You commented on an AfD to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/North Park Academy with the caption "(Redirect, and try something other than a bunch more AFDs, please.)". As far as the Buffalo Public Schools article is concerned, I am not personally anticipating any more redirects or AfDs as most of the remaining schools are likely notable (there are some leftover blue links that could still use some cleanup), but in future situations what other avenues would you suggest? The article had already been redirected appropriately, and as that redirect was overridden, it seemed appropriate to bring it to AfD for consensus. Discussions about the notability of someone's dear old elementary school very often become irrational, which is why OUTCOMES deals with them as it does. All that aside, I'm interested in other options, it is certainly not my intent to be "hurtful" by bringing articles to AfD. Jacona (talk) 15:33, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Thank you, Jacona, for contacting me; i appreciate your concern not to be hurtful and I appreciate your interest in other options. In general, I think AFDs are by their nature hurtful, as calling for deletion of work. I was not aware until now that you had redirected the article before, and I see now that in this edit you did so with a polite edit summary. Then in the article's history it looks like D-Day might not have noticed that, but returned on December 27 with some update information that they might have come across, about change of principal, and they restored the article and made the update. I think then it might have been better to open discussion at the Talk page of the article or otherwise contact D-Day, perhaps, but I agree it is also okay to open an AFD for fuller discussion. Anyhow then you pretty promptly opened AFD and also about then you opened AFD about a different elementary school, which I had noticed at D-Day's talk page already, which i think has closed as redirect already. One thing about the AFD on North Park Academy, if I recall correctly your nomination was/is calling for deletion, not redirecting to Buffalo Public Schools, while it sounds like you could support redirecting in fact. Calling for redirection rather than outright deletion would have been "nicer" in my view. Also I don't think it is likely that D-Day has irrational view about the one school; they created and/or have maintained numerous Buffalo school articles, not just the one, which I presume was done as a public service, as a volunteer like you and me, serving the public. I was also fearing that there would be a bunch more AFDs, yes. If you view the other elementary school articles as okay, that changes things somewhat, in my view. Is it the case that you reviewed them all and view all but the two as okay for mainspace? What to do now, as alternatives, would depend a bit on that. For one thing, that could be conveyed to D-Day and that would probably change the experience for them. By the way, I have not heard from D-Day (although I invited them at their Talk page to comment in the AFD); my views about what is "nicer" and what matters are informed by other experiences, not from any specific knowledge of D-Day's experience. I could comment more, but could you reply more specifically about the other school articles in that template? Thanks again for your concern. Sincerely, --doncram 19:42, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

While the articles generally don't have good independent sources, most of the remaining k-8 schools date back at least 50 and in some cases well over 100 years (Dr. Antonia Pantoja Community School of Academic Excellence has roots dating to 1848). I'm betting that someone with the inclination to do so can find some reliable sources. I think I wasn't at my best that morning, my procedures were a little different than I would have liked. I would not normally take a school article to AfD unless it had been redirected it at least once. Jacona (talk) 22:01, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

An issue about article deletions and infoboxes

(Though this section contains negativity, I am choosing to keep it here on my Talk page for now. Not calling for or against further discussion, but if there's further discussion please keep a constructive, civil tone. The initial posting is, in my view, an example of a personal attack. I'll delete this if it seems unhelpful. Retitled from "Strong warning" to by me. Don't change the title. --doncram 00:20, 21 January 2015 (UTC))

1) Stop stalking my edits.

2) Edit summaries like "Speedy deletion request with false statement of purpose" and "deletion nominator goal, unstated, is..." are blatant faslehoods, and an egregious breach of the warning given by User:Gatoclass: "you are hereby reminded that comments on contributor rather than content may result in the imposition of sanctions".

Revert the relevant edits immediately. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 07:58, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Andy didn't list all uses of {{infobox}} so that he'd delete all articles containing it. His intention is to replace bare {{infobox}}es with more suitable ones. In going through what is a very long list, he did inevitably stumble on some articles he thought should be deleted. I think it'd be helpful if you were to retract your accusation. Alakzi (talk) 00:10, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Alakzi, I believe you are trying to intervene helpfully. Thanks for constructive interaction at a Talk page about one speedy delete tag removal. Your interpretation of editor Pigsonthewing (P)'s intention is charitable; I think the past record and recent actions are more simply explained as an over-focus on one goal of dubious value, at odds against other better goals, with implementation damaging to content and editors/community.
This relates to an ongoing Administrative Enforcement proceeding, see Statement by Doncram (where I tried to express my concern, with diffs) and some response by Thrydulff
You may have noticed that I replied, partially, to P at his talk page, another editor commented, and the section was removed with an edit summary being a partial response Okay.
"Direct calls to Infobox" section at an uninvolved editor's Talk page
Just noting for the record, in my view there have been two unjustified personally directed negative statements, which I think amount to personal attacks (by P in the opening statement of this sectionas insulting, disparaging, and false statements, and seeking to intimidate me obviously; by T at the uninvolved editor's page, violates "Accusations about personal behavior that lack evidence").
I simply disagree with Pigsonthewing's assertions above. As I noted at P's page, P knows that following anothers' edits is allowed explicitly, when there's reason for concern. I've expressed reason for concern, at the AE with tons of diffs, and then P proceeded to demonstrate more reason for concern.
I may or may not comment further. --doncram 00:20, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
Ok, I'd not realised quite the depth of this veritable rabbit hole. I don't think that Andy, for wanting but being unable to remove the infoboxes, would rather have the articles deleted. It sounds ludicrous. Alakzi (talk) 01:27, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

Doncram: Despite the above warning from me, and clarifications kindly provided by User:Alakzi, you not only refused to revert your edits, but have now repeated your false assertion about my motives, in no less than four further locations:

(At the same time, you canvass discussion, for which you have also been previously warned. In two of the four cases, your statement about the infobox used is also false.) Desist immediately from such unacceptable behaviour. (CC User:Gatoclass). Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:36, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

I disagree with your perspective. Your commenting here is not entirely welcome, but it is better to discuss your view in any detail here (or in a dispute resolution venue) than at the AFDs you link.
About bad faith and personalizing, you posted accusations at 3 AFDs, e.g. this diff,

It seems that you need to be reminded that you were warned "not to approach discussions confrontatively [sic]... not to comment on contributors rather than content, and not to assume bad faith."; and that User:Gatoclass similarly told you: ""you are hereby reminded that comments on contributor rather than content may result in the imposition of sanctions". Yet you continue, despite being told otherwise, repeatedly to falsely assert that I have motives which are alien to me.

That is an obvious violation by you, of what you assert to decry. You are commenting on contributors rather than content, and you are assuming bad faith, and, arguably, I'll say now (not at an AFD) you may be explicitly lying--in any common English understanding of the term--about your interest in removing infoboxes that you don't like. Do you seriously assert that you don't remove infoboxes you don't like? Do you seriously assert that you haven't gone to articles on your worklist of articles having {{Infobox}}, at User:Pigsonthewing/Direct calls to Infobox??? (https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=User:Pigsonthewing/Direct_calls_to_Infobox&oldid=643088112 permalink to current version), in order to remove infoboxes from them? As you know, your doing so, by either editing the articles to remove an infobox you don't like, or by pressing the deletion of the articles, is covered, with diffs, by my statement within "Amendment request: Infoboxes" AE discussion(permalink). Seriously?
Nonetheless, I'll try to consider if you are right about my edits. Looking at the Manning AFD, it looks like what sets you off is the following that I wrote (I don't see anything else that it could be):

*Keep. Note the article appears to be targeted for its using {{Infobox}}. The deletion nomination shows no evidence of performing wp:BEFORE; the nom spends more time/text complaining about removal of the prod, which was by me. It's not "bogus" to point out the apparent purpose of removing infoboxes the nom does not like. The nom was indeed working from this worklist of articles having "direct calls" to infobox template. I note related AFDs above. [continues with more specific discussion of sources and content]

I do not see how that constitutes a violation of commenting overly about editors rather than content. It doesn't name you explicitly. It responds to your alarming, extraordinary assertion of "bogus"-ness in the prod removal, which seems appropriate, while acknowledging I am the party that the nom referred to. It is extremely common in AFDs for editors to comment that it appears wp:BEFORE was not performed by the nominator. Others do, e.g. this comment by another editor agreeing wp:BEFORE appeared not to be complied with, at the Lord Abbett AFD just before it was closed "Keep". If the quality of your nominations is poor, you are not exempt from that being noted, in AFDs, at your Talk page, elsewhere. At the Manning AFD (as at the others), I responded to your personally directed accusations by this edit directing discussion of the accusations to here, instead. I think this is overall appropriate and either entirely non-violating or at least milder, much-less-violating-than-yours. Do let's tone it down in inappropriate forums. Note, it is my belief that I have been courteous and patient with you--definitely milder than you--in some previous interactions where you made overly strong accusations.
About canvassing accusation: Again, it's not canvassing, to provide a note linking between multiple similar AFDs. For a different example, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dudley House (Harvard College) and related 3 other AFDs, linked by notes like this added by me. There's no objection. And I am actually thanked by the nominator of the 4 articles for the notes.
You previously accused me, falsely, of canvassing, last year, archived User talk:Doncram/Archive 24#NRHP & Recent canvassing. It was nonsense, none of the criteria for wp:CANVASS were met. I don't know whether to believe you or not, in terms of whether you yourself believe that no links between AFDs are ever allowed. It is routine practice in all AFDs for editors to add DELSORT links to other AFDs, e.g. this edit adding 3 links to the Clark Manning AFD. Especially when there is not a DELSORT category defined, as with these 4, explicit links between similar AFDs are similarly helpful. --doncram 21:21, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
(Note: I see this new accusation by Pigsonthewing of canvassing against another editor in a TFD and I disagree that is canvassing too. For one, it is not mass notice, criteria 1 of wp:CANVASS. It's simply not prohibited to mention a discussion going on. If one editor believes appropriate mentions are wrong, they may perhaps feel justified in escalating with personal attacks or other means. But the (false) accusations of canvassing seem like personally-directed attacks, to me. Bad cycle? --doncram 00:53, 29 January 2015 (UTC))

Moved comment

Hi Doncram, I moved your comment, I know, a big no-no, but I hope you don't mind in this case; keeping it where it was would place it in the section below, which was procedurally closed, which can't have been the intention. Please do revert if you disagree with my pawing your comments. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 00:53, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks! I wasn't sure where the next comment should go. Thank you for moving it. --doncram 01:16, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, things got real confusing there. This was the best I could make of it. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 01:18, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Do not, under any circumstances, ever, edit my talk page comments again. If you do, I shall revert you. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:34, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

Okay, Pigsonthewing, your objection noted. In general, don't edit mine, either. But do you think it's okay for you to edit others' comments? And restore your edits to others' comments after 2 others object? Seems hypocritical. I ask you to undo your twice-implemented edit (2 and 5 below) of Dirtlawyer's comment, that I undid once.
This has to do with edits at open TFD: Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2015 January 22#Template:Infobox academic division. Selected relevant edits in order there:
User:Pigsonthewing, would you please acknowledge this communication, and either undo your edit of D's comment or reply why you will not? --doncram 17:18, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

Rosa d'Erina

Please let me know when you're finished with this, and I'll be happy to take a look at it. All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 16:07, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi, User:Ssilvers, thanks for noticing, i presume from my edit at W.S.Gilbert's No Cards, and i see you're active in Wikipedia:WikiProject Gilbert and Sullivan. This is way out of any expertise by me; I'd be happy for any contribution you can make at Draft:Rosa D'Erina. Interesting self-styling as her being at command of royalty, though likely royalty did attend No Cards. And I find no support for styling of husband as Vicomte, as asserted in NYT wedding announcement. I think i'm about at dead end, have plowed through Google search options. I was sorta hoping to get a nice DYK-type article, but what's there is all i can find. If you have any sources, imdb.com like, for performances, or could otherwise develop, it would be great. --doncram 16:21, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
Oh, I see you got the full text to the NYT announcement, which supports vicomte claim better than what i could see. And other improvements already. thanks! --doncram 16:38, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Pigsonthewing new objection and Doncram reply

You have just again removed one of my comments. Desist. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:28, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

That's about Wikipedia talk:Wikipedia Signpost/Templates/Quote. Actually, I saw you and another edit were edit warring there, and I sought to stop it by stepping in as a 3rd person, while you each were at 2 reverts. I am surprised you pushed it to 3 reverts by you....you are definitely edit warring. I did not see it as me editing your comment, because in my 1 revert there I restored the page to showing the other editor's preferred display, which happened to leave no comment by you. I certainly did not edit within your comment. But since you object, I can see your point. So I won't revert you in a discussion and I likewise request that you not revert me. And, on my Talk page, you can comment but do not change a discussion section title; i retitled this one. And as you see, I did comment further at Signpost/Quote, not reverting your 3rd revert.
Also I have to say that it's weird seeing you disputing there about where a discussion should take place. Not long ago, with me, you disputed whether and/or where a discussion was taking place. As detailed at location of discussion issue (archived). --doncram 20:15, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

@Pigsonthewing: I note your objection "Do not hat or remove other's comments" there, but you are obviously disrespecting my attempt to manage a discussion section to keep it focussed. You should expect your off-topic comments to be hatted along with others. You seem to be trying to abuse the concept that you and I should not edit each others'm comments. I do not agree that you can do so; i do expect to hat there soon. I am being nice in not hatting already, will do so soon. I hope you will cooperate in trying to make an informal agreement between us work. --doncram 22:02, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

For the avoidance of doubt:

  • Do not edit my comments
  • Do not move my comments
  • Do not remove my comments
  • Do not hat my comments
  • Do not do the above to anyone else, unless they give you permission to do so
  • Do not move, remove, or change comments (even your own) to which I or others have replied
  • Do not complain if your new comments made while doing any of the above are affected by people reverting you.

And you are correct; I have no respect for your ham-fisted attempts to do these things. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:19, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Feb 2015 Warning

Doncram, Andy is correct here. You were told at 21:46 not to edit other's comments.[1] You returned and did so at 21:56.[2].

See: WP:TPO. Specifically: "Never edit or move someone's comment to change its meaning, even on your own talk page. ". You were not elected to be Wikipedia's Chief Discussion Manager, and none of the listed exceptions apply here. If you continue to do this, you may be blocked. — Ched :  ?  22:40, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

@Ched: I DID NOT. Your first diff shows Pigsonthewing's addition of "Do not hat or remove other's comments." Your second diff shows me leaving that in place. I stated an intention to hat the entire off-topic discussion soon, but I did not do so, leaving his comments exactly in place, not changing his meaning at all. This "warning" is off-base. --doncram 22:49, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
There's a second part to that: "...or move". If someone places a comment where they feel it belongs, you are free to request that they move it, or noting that something is wrongly placed in your own comment; but you should not be doing the moving yourself. Your disputes with Andy are well documented, and this can be viewed as an antagonistic approach on your part. I would hope you will be more careful in the future, but the choice is ultimately up to you in the end. — Ched :  ?  23:00, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
@Ched: Huh? You pose as a quote "...or move" when what was said is "...or remove". I did not intentionally move Pigsonthewing's or anybody's comments in any way that would change any meaning. As I already acknowledged, I was incorrect in perceiving that an inserted section moved the "location" section. It was in fact a subsection, not a section inserted out of order, so I should not have moved it, I was mistaken when I attempted to restore the order of sections. I don't need to be warned about that. Pigsonthewing's blatant disrespect for what I think was a decent attempt to have a focussed discussion in the "location" discussion, including edits removing my statements (contrast my care not to remove his) and his hypocritical and over-reaching dictate to me above, should be viewed as antagonistic on his part. I do appreciate your trying to be helpful here, and your tone. But I think you should "warn" Pigsonthewing about his actions, else you yourself are being one-sided, unfairly, and throwing around your admin status improperly, with apparent bias. --doncram 23:24, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Delete-by-stealth

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article National Register of Historic Places listings in Talbot County, Georgia is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/National Register of Historic Places listings in Talbot County, Georgia until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Richard C. Stone (talk) 05:18, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

This nomination appears to be the work of a vandal. See their history for further evidence. --Ebyabe talk - Opposites Attract05:40, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
I see they were stopped and followed. Hey, I'd say they're new at least, not sure i'd label them a vandal, as some/most/all the edits reverting theirs did. I did object at their page first, i think, seeing a spate of AFDs, which did not seem proper. But the Talbot list is actually all red-links, and does seem kinda weird, from point of view of a new editor, i would grant them that. Thanks, anyhow. cheers, --doncram 23:45, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

re problems with redirect

Hi,

I finally saw the complete error message. I get the error because I'm not an AFC participant. I guess the for the subpage to be reached, via the wikispace redirect without an error message, it has to be approved by an AFC participant. EChastain (talk) 02:52, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

This is about soft redirect that I set up, wp:kaffeeklatsch, which is under discussion in an ongoing RFD. Actually, EChasutain, the problem could be that it was I who started the page, and it does need some approval for the message not to show. My account status is deficient in that I don't have "auto-patrolled" right and/or some other right. I'll ask for an AFC person to approve it anyhow, hope it will get fixed. --doncram 03:17, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
I've added the second redirect to the discussion category, as it is listed also at the top of Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion#Wikipedia:KAFFEEKLATSCH along with the first. Also, it's not a project page, so it's incorrectly categorised. EChastain (talk) 03:53, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
Hi EChastain, I asked at User talk:Ivanvector#RFD help for them to remove the tag(s) added to the soft redirect, because it is messing up the use of the example. I'd like for you to accept that too, please see th,at request. Also by the way in this diff at the RFD you slightly miss-state what I said above. You don't need to bother fixing it there, but I do have perfect right/ability to create the redirect. You are perhaps suggesting that I did something wrong, which I did not. --doncram 04:57, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Pioneer Bridge Co.

The article Pioneer Bridge Co. has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ...William 17:29, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi, WilliamJE. I created that article apparently in October 2012 but am under an NRHP-related editing restriction which prevents me from editing the article to improve it (using sources that probably have become available online, since 2012). And it probably prevents me from removing the PROD or participating in discussion at its Talk page. I would appreciate if you or anyone else would remove the PROD and either leave it or take it to a full AFD if necessary, to ensure some wider attention is given. Either way, thanks for the notice. --doncram 17:58, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

Sorry for butting in here, but since user:WilliamJE has not responded I decided to remove the wp:PROD tag from Pioneer Bridge Co.. If someone feels strongly that this page should be purged from Wikipedia they can go ahead and wp:AFD it.

For those curious about my motivation here are a couple:

  • I am an wp:inclusionist
  • I have run into WilliamJE before at Detroit bankruptcy. From what I can tell this editor is convinced that his confrontational approach is bettering Wikipedia. I hope he is interested in feedback.

Apologies to DonCram for using his talk page as a WP:SOAPBOX. Ottawahitech (talk) 16:00, 15 February 2015 (UTC)

Asking for your attn/eyes on the Sageworks company page

Hello Doncram. I'm currently engaged in several back-and-forth edits with a few users on a page that you have reviewed, when it was nominated for AFD. The page in question is Sageworks. My view is that these editors have a clear WP:COI and grudge against this company, and are making uncited, unsubstantiated claims, in violation of several Wiki policies (ED, WORDS, NPOV, etc). I can make a case for why I think I'm right, but I'm also a new editor, and I could be totally off. I was hoping you might be open to taking a few minutes to review the page to ensure that these editors are not in violation, or if I'm doing something incorrectly (I'm certainly open to that possibility as well). Either way I think a senior editor would be beneficial to all involved. Are you willing to take a look? I've reached out, with this same message, to the editor which closed the AFD discussion, Sandstein. Thanks very much -- 77 woodmont (talk) 21:22, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

As a very brief follow up, I think it's worth noting that the editors in question are the same editors who voted to "delete" the company in the AFD discussion. I'm sure you'll find them to be familiar names. Hoping you can find a few minutes to review. Thanks! --77 woodmont (talk) 21:57, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
Okay, yes, will do, and I did just now make a first comment at Talk:Sageworks. I'll participate more there, which is the proper place to discuss issues with the article and its editing. It's fine you contacted me, thanks for doing so. If you have an association with the company, please consult wp:COI if you have not already. I'll comment at your talk page soon. --doncram 22:02, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
I really appreciate your attn on the page, some fresh eyes are much needed. Thanks very much. I've added one additional section to the talk page, which I'm hoping you can take a look at as well. I'm holding on reverting the section in question, to avoid a revert war. Thanks again. --77 woodmont (talk) 22:15, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
I'll get there eventually. Yes, please do stop making edits in the article, that would be best. --doncram 22:20, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
Much appreciated. I see that you have already started commenting (even though I haven't had the chance to give my full attn yet), which is great. I'll be sure to review your comments closely first thing tomorrow. Thanks again for lending your expertise here. --77 woodmont (talk) 22:26, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

Renee Bull

I have used a number of reliable sources to significantly expand and improve the Renee Bull article. I respectfully request that you review the article in its current state and reconsider your !vote in the current discussion. - Dravecky (talk) 03:52, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

Purely for the sake of clarity, could you please strike your superseded delete !vote at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Renee Bull (2nd nomination)? Thanks. - Dravecky (talk) 18:09, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
Followup, much later: I did revisit the article and did revise my vote (from Delete to Redirect) and remove an accidental double-vote, e.g. with comment at 14:35, 21 February 2015 in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Renee Bull (2nd nomination). The AfD was closed Keep. The Renee Bull article, along with others, was recently edited by an I.P. editor who is probably a paid person. I kind of think now that anything touched by promotional editors should be removed in entirety. I do see in Google news search a couple Delaware appearances by Renee Bull though. Dravecky, if you happen to want to comment, I wonder if your opinion about these changes, and whether you're updating the related articles, and if this one putting her with 26-yr-old youngest mayor of NJ is worth mentioning? But mere appearances probably are not to be noted, I suppose. (No problem Dravecky if u visit and don't care to comment, this is just idle musing.) --doncram 00:00, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

I've uploaded for the first time an image to Flickr showing the Gooseneck. I only have a dummy account so that I can research, including non-Wikipedia stuff. I now understand the text used to describe the licensing in the Flickr edit sequence, which will help when making requests to change from copyrighted (as a default setting). I 'borrowed' this image, it appeared (with several other IoM pics) on the Facebook page of the lass shown a few years back (I was directed by someone she knew), but the copyright would stay with the photographer, an IoM resident at the time but no longer. Can't remember his name. This is how the image should be framed, although ideally the camera needs to be placed a few yards to the left which would better-show the road width and get the exit line of the corner. You can also see the notice proclaiming no public access to the inside of the bend. Looking at the bike's angle alone suggests it is far from "Non-notable bend in a road" as the nom annotated (aim for the little hut...).[3] --Rocknrollmancer (talk) 13:31, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Rocknrollmancer, thanks! An awesome pic! I'll add a link to it as an external link, which is all that can be done, in the Gooseneck, Isle of Man article. And even if that article is redirected, if necessary per discussion at its Talk page (i forget which one has to be redirected, between this and Windy Corner and other discussions, and maybe a redirection will even unfortunately be implemented by me), the same link will appear anyhow within Draft:List of named corners of the Snaefell Mountain Course#Table row Gooseneck, the list-article in development for named corners. If i recall correctly, though, the Gooseneck article is safe for now though. I do hope someone can get a pic like that next year, which could be used directly in articles. Thank you for sharing! sincerely, --doncram 00:00, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

No biggie?

No biggie? — it’s a hugie for me! Having an editor of your standing come to my talkpage with this type of proposal is a real feather in my cap. I usually try to ignore my talkpage because most of the time it is a downer, but your post the other day changed all that instantly - so thank you very very much.

Having said this, are you sure you will get something out of the deal? I am not good at wp:AFDs, never have been, and have no interest in getting better at it. I am also not a good writer, you have done wonders with the Companies of the United States with untaxed profits skeleton, and this is the reason it was kept at AFD, in my humble opinion. I am also not a good team player, and on top of it my time on Wikipedia is rather limited. I love being here and contributing and wish I could devote more time to it, but unfortunately, I do have other more pressing real life issues to deal with. I also want to try to keep treating it as a (hopefully pleasurable) hobby and not an obsession which I have a tendency of falling into. Another thing some individuals have difficulty with is the fact that I never communicate via email (and other idiiosyncracies...).

Starting a wiki-project is a commitment I cannot take on right now. How about something less challenging such as trying to revive an existing project, such as wp:WikiProject Business?

Repatriation - what a great find, I’ll have to find the time to look into it.

Another angle on untaxed profits is something I have been looking for in reliable sources, explaining how U.S. law allows corporations can get away with untaxed profits outside the U.S. while U.S. individuals must pay tax no matter where the income is derived and no matter where the individual lives.

Sorry, I am starting to ramble, over and out for now. Ottawahitech (talk) 02:30, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

I realize you are busy with other matters, but thought you may be interested in the 2015 Pulitzer Prize won for explanation of how so many U.S. corporations dodge taxes and why lawmakers and regulators have a hard time stopping them. Thread title at ANI

(posted then self-reverted by Barek, and then restored by doncram with hope to discuss here rather than at ANI)

I won't revert - but seriously, in this case, I have a hard time understanding how someone that was blocked indefinitely in 2008([4]), and who was the subject of a community ban discussion in 2010(Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive215#Proposing community ban of User:Timothy Sheridan), who has repeatedly edit warred with multiple IPs in order to evade blocks([5],[6]) as well as using the multiple IPs to soapbox over their losing in IRS case 7371-13([7]) who also makes repeated unsubstantiated claims to have invented the world-wide-web, search engines, and hyperlinks and who while claiming to have invented the internet also claims that Wikipedia hacked his computer and to make repeated attacks on Jewish peoples([8]) ... how anyone who has done all that, ongoing over the past 7+ years, could be described neutrally as anything other that disruptive. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 22:37, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

That relates to this edit by me at ANI and this 2nd edit by me.
Barek, I'd prefer to discuss here rather than take the ANI section off-content off-topic. I rather assume that you have a legitimate point of view, actually. I just want to help change section titling practice at ANI, which has often unfairly tarred the names of editors. Please see wp:TALKNEW. Happy to discuss further. Note I have nothing against you personally, and even though I would prefer you used a more neutral title, I do not think you are out of line with general practice. I have made other similar retitling edits in last few days (e.g. my next edit in a different section), and I want to help change the general practice, while not unduly disrupting ongoing discussions. Hope this helps. Also, if you do not want this section to exist here, please do erase it again and I will not restore it. sincerely, --doncram 22:58, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
I had actually posted here after seeing the thread name change, but before I saw your comment at ANI; which is why I moved my comment over there after seeing your comment.
I understand the need and reasoning for wp:TALKNEW. My main issue was where the behavior has been so persistent for such a long term. I believe that my reply to you at ANI provides more detailed background on the behavior of the user - but if you like, we could add a comment that the off-topic discussion of the renaming is on your talk page, so as to not muddy the ANI thread.
As I said, I won't revert, and I see the issue as pretty much closed. I will make an effort to better follow the thread-naming in the future. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 23:09, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
Thank you, Barek, for your understanding and your gracious response. Your reply at ANI was fine, IMO. I also replied briefly there, suggesting that anything further on the off-topic point be continued here instead, already. Hopefully that accomplishes what you suggest already, about not muddying the ANI thread. And i won't comment any further there. Thanks, sincerely, --doncram 23:17, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

On reversion of edits to the Transhumanist Party main article

Hi Doncram,

You, Stalwart111, and Dsprc have both done large reversions of versions of the Transhumanist Party article on Wikipedia, removing it to become a redirect to Zoltan Istvan#Transhumanist Party. I know you did this because of the discussion last November at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Transhumanist Party when the resolution was to change the page to a redirect because of the lack of secondary sources, a decision you were arguing for.

To quote the user Philosopher on that particular discussion thread: "it is WP:TOOSOON to know whether the party will become notable and Wikipedia is not a crystal ball." Yet, after over 3 months of the party's publicity and media coverage, as well as work being done to Draft:Transhumanist Party to add those references and new information being made publicly available, you still thought it was appropriate to remove the page and make a redirect to the page for Zoltan Istvan, the party's founder and chairman. It is certainly apparent now—if it wasn't already when the page was created—that the party is a real organization, and not some large orchestrated prank like you seemed to think. You can't say now that it's "too soon" to determine that the party is real unless you didn't look at the changes.

In the deletion discussion, Dsprc said: "It is just Istvan. Is the party registered anywhere? Something like one of these: [1] California (dept state), [2] Florida (dept elections) or New York maybe?? Have they ever gained ballot access anywhere at all? Have they even attempted to do so yet? Who is their Treasurer, Secretary, etc? Or, are there none of these positions because it is just Istvan, and not a political organization at all? Another tell is the lack of a dedicated web resource. Right now, the domain is just a redirect to a subpage on Istvan's site and the domain is assigned to Istvan, and only registered on September 14th (with bogus registration data at that). -- dsprc [talk] 05:40, 23 November 2014 (UTC)" All this information is now on the transhumanist party website at www.transhumanistparty.org (which is functional)—and it is not a redirect to Istvan's own site for that matter. Even so, a political party does not have to be on ballots, acquire votes, or even be registered (which it is) to be notable for Wikipedia. This is not to mention that the complaints voiced by the other users in the Deletion discussion have been settled too, as only more and more news stories have come out in the last three months pertaining to or referencing the US Transhumanist Party and its international affiliates. These references have been added too.

Regardless of all this, Dsprc jumped the gun and removed the page hours after it was restored from the draft with these upgrades. It is questionable whether the page should have been removed in the first place, but the issues that justified that argument in November are no longer applicable to the status of the page how it is now. After being restored a second time by an anonymous user (2600:1003:b11f:127e:0:13:f8ec:af01), it was improved again and then removed similarly a second time by Stalwart111.

Zoltan Istvan is aware of this issue too, and he is currently writing a series of articles that he will publish on national news media challenging Wikipedia and the users involved in keeping down the Transhumanist Party article. Among the subjects of these articles are you, Dsprc, Stalwart111, Philosopher, Wikipedia executive staff, the organization, and its system's failure to support an article on this political party. In the meantime, the page will be properly restored so it can be seen by and improved by users and the public, as there is no doubt that it deserves its page on The Free Encyclopedia for people to see. Nobody is against making the page better, and there will be new additions and references all the time; the party's news coverage is consistently growing, and maybe its Wikipedia page's will soon too.

All the users I mentioned will be additionally be informed so we can let the community understand this issue. It would be appreciated if you could respond within 24 hours of this message being sent—at least before March 10 UST. I hope you can be of help to the page and to Wikipedia by contributing, not by removing this from the main article namespace.

Hi Mechanic1c -- You posted the above at the same time, or approximately, that I was posting at your Talk page, at User talk:Mechanic1c#how to develop/restore a Transhumanist Party article. You'll see I also posted at Draft talk:Transhumanist Party. I am trying to help you by directing you and others to develop Draft:Transhumanist Party. I will follow discussion at Draft talk:Transhumanist Party, please post or continue there. My talk page is not the right place for you and others to communicate general complaints. Hmm, I think i will copy your text above to a section there, to discuss, hope that is okay by you. --doncram 20:08, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

Hello. Thank you for creating Strasburg Historic District (Strasburg, Virginia). I was wondering if some of it could be split. For example, I think the Strasburg Presbyterian Church should be split. There is an interesting article about its history on Jstor and the first pastor was William Henry Foote, whose page I am about to move from userspace to a main article.Zigzig20s (talk) 15:34, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 2

For this month's issue...

Making sense of a lot of data.

Work on our prototype will begin imminently. In the meantime, we have to understand what exactly we're working with. To this end, we generated a list of 71 WikiProjects, based on those brought up on our Stories page and those who had signed up for pilot testing. For those projects where people told stories, we coded statements within those stories to figure out what trends there were in these stories. This approach allowed us to figure out what Wikipedians thought of WikiProjects in a very organic way, with very little by way of a structure. (Compare this to a structured interview, where specific questions are asked and answered.) This analysis was done on 29 stories. Codes were generally classified as "benefits" (positive contributions made by a WikiProject to the editing experience) and "obstacles" (issues posed by WikiProjects, broadly speaking). Codes were generated as I went along, ensuring that codes were as close to the original data as possible. Duplicate appearances of a code for a given WikiProject were removed.

We found 52 "benefit" statements encoded and 34 "obstacle" statements. The most common benefit statement referring to the project's active discussion and participation, followed by statements referring to a project's capacity to guide editor activity, while the most common obstacles made reference to low participation and significant burdens on the part of the project maintainers and leaders. This gives us a sense of WikiProjects' big strength: they bring people together, and can be frustrating to editors when they fail to do so. Meanwhile, it is indeed very difficult to bring editors together on a common interest; in the absence of a highly motivated core of organizers, the technical infrastructure simply isn't there.

We wanted to pair this qualitative study with quantitative analysis of a WikiProject and its "universe" of pages, discussions, templates, and categories. To this end I wrote a script called ProjAnalysis which will, for a given WikiProject page (e.g. Wikipedia:WikiProject Star Trek) and WikiProject talk-page tag (e.g. Template:WikiProject Star Trek), will give you a list of usernames of people who edited within the WikiProject's space (the project page itself, its talk page, and subpages), and within the WikiProject's scope (the pages tagged by that WikiProject, excluding the WikiProject space pages). The output is an exhaustive list of usernames. We ran the script to analyze our test batch of WikiProjects for edits between March 1, 2014 and February 28, 2015, and we subjected them to further analysis to only include those who made 10+ edits to pages in the projects' scope, those who made 4+ edits to the projects' space, and those who made 10+ edits to pages in scope but not 4+ edits to pages in the projects' space. This latter metric gives us an idea of who is active in a certain subject area of Wikipedia, yet who isn't actively engaging on the WikiProject's pages. This information will help us prioritize WikiProjects for pilot testing, and the ProjAnalysis script in general may have future life as an application that can be used by Wikipedians to learn about who is in their community.

Complementing the above two studies are a design analysis, which summarizes the structure of the different WikiProject spaces in our test batch, and the comprehensive census of bots and tools used to maintain WikiProjects, which will be finished soon. With all of this information, we will have a game plan in place! We hope to begin working with specific WikiProjects soon.

As a couple of asides...

  • Database Reports has existed for several years on Wikipedia to the satisfaction of many, but many of the reports stopped running when the Toolserver was shut off in 2014. However, there is good news: the weekly New WikiProjects and WikiProjects by Changes reports are back, with potential future reports in the future.
  • WikiProject X has an outpost on Wikidata! Check it out. It's not widely publicized, but we are interested in using Wikidata as a potential repository for metadata about WikiProjects, especially for WikiProjects that exist on multiple Wikimedia projects and language editions.

That's all for now. Thank you for subscribing! If you have any questions or comments, please share them with us.

Sageworks Saga Again

I see CorporateM is at it again, white washing the Sageworks article. I am convinced this guy must be paid for this what with the insistence on pushing the pro-company angle.

Incidentally, I find your contributions rather amazing given the major dispute that took place. Now the article looks like it belongs to some scientific institution instead of disreputable outfit bent on abusing the customer supplied data.

I desisted from editing this article, but this entire experience has been rather unsavory. To put it mildly, Wikipedia in my view has little credibility as an info source if articles such as this Sageworks are allowed to persist. Shame. --Harald Forkbeard (talk) 06:38, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, agreed. I am torn between ARTSPAM and ADMASQ. I like the spam part, but art makes me think of fine art. Yet ADMASQ seems to me less readable. PAPA won't work, as not all of them are "paid for", and proving it is problematic. SPAMMASQ may be too long, ADSPAM... sigh. MASQAD? One solution is to convert this discussion into a footnote for the op-ed, asking community what's the best term for this problem. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:48, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

Invitation

Calling all WikiProject X members!

Hello fellow member! WikiProject X needs your help!

We studied the various needs that WikiProjects have, and have come up with some ideas for our first round of WikiProject tool development. These include:

  • An automatically updated WikiProject directory that surfaces WikiProject-related metrics and automatically generates a list of active participants and potential members;
  • A lightweight, optional alternative to WikiProject banners, featuring an option to quickly send a message to the named WikiProjects;
  • A tool that bootstraps WikiProjects; and
  • A worklist generation script for WikiProjects

We are now looking for volunteer coders to work on these projects. If you are interested in developing these tools, or if you would to volunteer for other tasks, check out our new volunteers portal. Thank you for your help!

WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 3

Greetings! For this month's issue...

We have demos!

After a lengthy research and design process, we decided for WikiProject X to focus on two things:

  • A WikiProject workflow that focuses on action items: discussions you can participate in and tasks you can perform to improve the encyclopedia; and
  • An automatically updating WikiProject directory that gives you lists of users participating in the WikiProject and editing in that subject area.

We have a live demonstration of the new WikiProject workflow at WikiProject Women in Technology, a brand new WikiProject that was set up as an adjunct to a related edit-a-thon in Washington, DC. The goal is to surface action items for editors, and we intend on doing that through automatically updated working lists. We are looking into using SuggestBot to generate lists of outstanding tasks, and we are looking into additional options for automatic worklist generation. This takes the burden off of WikiProject editors to generate these worklists, though there is also a "requests" section for Wikipedians to make individual requests. (As of writing, these automated lists are not yet live, so you will see a blank space under "edit articles" on the demo WikiProject. Sorry about that!) I invite you to check out the WikiProject and leave feedback on WikiProject X's talk page.

Once the demo is sufficiently developed, we will be working on a limited deployment on our pilot WikiProjects. We have selected five for the first round of testing based on the highest potential for impact and will scale up from there.

While a re-designed WikiProject experience is much needed, that alone isn't enough. A WikiProject isn't any good if people have no way of discovering it. This is why we are also developing an automatically updated WikiProject directory. This directory will surface project-related metrics, including a count of active WikiProject participants and of active editors in that project's subject area. The purpose of these metrics is to highlight how active the WikiProject is at the given point of time, but also to highlight that project's potential for success. The directory is not yet live but there is a demonstration featuring a sampling of WikiProjects.

Each directory entry will link to a WikiProject description page which automatically list the active WikiProject participants and subject-area article editors. This allows Wikipedians to find each other based on the areas they are interested in, and this information can be used to revive a WikiProject, start a new one, or even for some other purpose. These description pages are not online yet, but they will use this template, if you want to get a feel of what they will look like.

We need volunteers!

WikiProject X is a huge undertaking, and we need volunteers to support our efforts, including testers and coders. Check out our volunteer portal and see what you can do to help us!

As an aside...

Wouldn't it be cool if lists of requested articles could not only be integrated directly with WikiProjects, but also shared between WikiProjects? Well, we got the crazy idea of having experimental software feature Flow deployed (on a totally experimental basis) on the new Article Request Workshop, which seeks to be a place where editors can "workshop" article ideas before they get created. It uses Flow because Flow allows, essentially, section-level categorization, and in the future will allow "sections" (known as "topics" within Flow) to be included across different pages. What this means is that you have a recommendation for a new article tagged by multiple WikiProjects, allowing for the recommendation to appear on lists for each WikiProject. This will facilitate inter-WikiProject collaboration and will help to reduce duplicated work. The Article Request Workshop is not entirely ready yet due to some bugs with Flow, but we hope to integrate it into our pilot WikiProjects at some point.

Lightbreather arbitration case: special arangements

Because of the unusual number of participants with interaction bans in the Lightbreather arbitration case, the consensus of the Arbitration Committee is that:

1. All i-bans and associated restrictions are suspended for participation on the /Evidence page. This suspension extends solely and exclusively to the /Evidence page but some tolerance will be given on the /Evidence talk page to link to material on the /Evidence page.

2. For simplicity, and for the purposes of this case only, one-way i-bans are regarded as two-way i-bans.

3. Threaded interactions of any description between participants are prohibited on both the /Evidence and the /Evidence talk pages.

4. Similar arrangements apply to /Workshop page and the /Workshop talk page.

talkpage agljones

Do not make personal attacks anywhere in Wikipedia WP:NA Do not use my talkpages for personal attacks or user my talkpage to converse with another editor. Do not make any threats of taking action on Wikipedia and this has mentioned to you before. Consider this a warning.

The issue has been made very clear to you in respect to fatal accidents to competitors and WP:NOT#MEMORIAL applies. This policy is straight forward to understand.

I do not own any of the Isle of Man TT articles and I have mentioned this previously and it is your actions as a disruptive editor WP:DISRUPT in the Isle of Man TT / motorcycle network that has caused problems and again do not make any further personal attacks on my talkpage. First of all there is the issue of AfD nominations by another editor that has stopped any further development of the pages that you refer too. I should not be referred to as a "hypocrite" because the article has not been developed since 2009 as it is not possible to do so because of further future AfD nominations. A major block to the development of the Isle of Man TT network is your repeated insistence on developing the list article for the Snaefell Mountain Course and all the incorrect information should be removed. It is difficult to develop articles in the knowledge that they are going to be redirected, deleted, misrepresented or criticised because the sources are considered “inconsequential or completely irrelevant.” (nb there is no 2015 Isle of Man TT article). Do not either criticise an article before it has been finished or revert the article before it has been completed.

It is not acceptable to refer to a "right" or "left hand" bend in an article as it is then quite correctly referred to as a non-notable corner and subjected to another AfD deletion. It is not acceptable to "cut and paste" information as your duplicating information and providing alternative meanings (ie Windy Corner) The information that you have written is often quite blatantly incorrect and your editing policy is again disruptive WP:DISRUPT and it is not acceptable.

Again it is disruptive to rely on one editor to walk you through every line of text when you repeatedly break-up, re-post and hat comments WP:TPO on the talkpage and repeatedly try to include other technically information/ plagiarism / synthesis / original research WP:OP that encroaches on other articles in the network which again creates problems of further AfD nominations. Do not contact me about this issue again. In respect to the British-English style, either familiarise yourself with these issues or do not edit articles with British-English. Perhaps you should familiarise with WP:Competence and in particular WP:DISRUPTSIGNS.

In regard to flags Wikipedia states that "Many editors, however, feel that the UK's subnations in particular are an exception in sporting contexts."

Finally, again, do not make any further personal attacks, comments or make any allegations. WP:NA agljones(talk)19:34, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 4

Newsletter • May/June 2015

Hello friends! We have been hard at work these past two months. For this report:

The directory is live!

For the first time, we are happy to bring you an exhaustive, comprehensive WikiProject Directory. This directory endeavors to list every single WikiProject on the English Wikipedia, including those that don't participate in article assessment. In constructing the broadest possible definition, we have come up with a list of approximately 2,600 WikiProjects. The directory tracks activity statistics on the WikiProject's pages, and, for where it's available, statistics on the number of articles tracked by the WikiProject and the number of editors active on those articles. Complementing the directory are description pages for each project, listing usernames of people active on the WikiProject pages and the articles in the WikiProject's scope. This will help Wikipedians interested in a subject find each other, whether to seek feedback on an article or to revive an old project. (There is an opt-out option.) We have also come up with listings of related WikiProjects, listing the ten most relevant WikiProjects based on what articles they have in common. We would like to promote WikiProjects as interconnected systems, rather than isolated silos.

A tremendous amount of work went into preparing this directory. WikiProjects do not consistently categorize their pages, meaning we had to develop our own index to match WikiProjects with the articles in their scope. We also had to make some adjustments to how WikiProjects were categorized; indeed, I personally have racked up a few hundred edits re-categorizing WikiProjects. There remains more work to be done to make the WikiProject directory truly useful. In the meantime, take a look and feel free to leave feedback at the WikiProject X talk page.

Stuff in the works!

What have we been working on?

  • A new design template—This has been in the works for a while, of course. But our goal is to design something that is useful and cleanly presented on all browsers and at all screen resolutions while working within the confines of what MediaWiki has to offer. Additionally, we are working on designs for the sub-components featured on the main project page.
  • A new WikiProject talk page banner in Lua—Work has begun on implementing the WikiProject banner in Lua. The goal is to create a banner template that can be usable by any WikiProject in lieu of having its own template. Work has slowed down for now to focus on higher priority items, but we are interested in your thoughts on how we could go about creating a more useful project banner. We have a draft module on Test Wikipedia, with a demonstration.
  • New discussion reports—We have over 4.8 million articles on the English Wikipedia, and almost as many talk pages as well. But what happens when someone posts on a talk page? What if no one is watching that talk page? We are currently testing out a system for an automatically-updating new discussions list, like RFC for WikiProjects. We currently have five test pages up for the WikiProjects on cannabis, cognitive science, evolutionary biology, and Ghana.
  • SuggestBot for WikiProjects—We have asked the maintainer of SuggestBot to make some minor adjustments to SuggestBot that will allow it to post regular reports to those WikiProjects that ask for them. Stay tuned!
  • Semi-automated article assessment—Using the new revision scoring service and another system currently under development, WikiProjects will be getting a new tool to facilitate the article assessment process by providing article quality/importance predictions for articles yet to be assessed. Aside from helping WikiProjects get through their backlogs, the goal is to help WikiProjects with collecting metrics and triaging their work. Semi-automation of this process will help achieve consistent results and keep the process running smoothly, as automation does on other parts of Wikipedia.

Want us to work on any other tools? Interested in volunteering? Leave a note on our talk page.

The WikiProject watchers report is back!

The database report which lists WikiProjects according to the number of watchers (i.e., people that have the project on their watchlist), is back! The report stopped being updated a year ago, following the deactivation of the Toolserver, but a replacement report has been generated.

Thank you for liking this. I wonder if we could find a picture/portrait anywhere. It would also be helpful to have a Polk family free. If I remember correctly, he was the grandnephew of President James K. Polk, but I am not certain.Zigzig20s (talk) 05:29, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi Zigzig20s, i think they are directly related, per the following. But I am not sure if "grandnephew" is the closest relationship between them, or not. Perhaps I should say first that I was/am not sure what a grandnephew is. I think (Person A's grandfather = Person B's father) implies (Person A is nephew of Person B.). Does (Person C's great-grandfather = Person D's grandfather) imply that (Person C is grandnephew of Person D? I'll assume that. Anyhow, since you suggested the relationship, I browsed around and went up the male ancestry line of each of them in Geni.com. And find that, according to Geni, they are both descended from William Ezekiel Robert Polk, II.
  • Lucius Junius Polk (b. 1802) is son of Lt. Col William Polk is son of Gen Thomas Polk (b. 1730) is son of William Ezekiel Robert Polk, II (b. ca1695, Ireland). (Note: so Wm E R P II was age 35 or so when son Gen T P was born.)
  • James K. Polk, 11th President of the USA (b. 1795) is son of Samuel Ezekiel Polk (b. ca1772) is son of Ezekiel Franklin Polk, I (b. 1747) is son of William Ezekiel Robert Polk, II (b. ca1695, Ireland). (Note: so Wm E R P II was age 54 or so when son E R P I was born.)
  • So it looks like Lucius Junius Polk's great-grandfather is the great-grandfather of President James K Polk. By this relationship, that means they are second cousins (O times removed). One could still be a grandnephew of the other, by other relationships. I noticed one or several of the male ancestors married a woman with last name Polk, i.e. with Polk possibly being a maiden name and with the woman possibly being a cousin once removed. Pres. James K. Polk's great-grandfather on the male line could also be his grandfather by a different line. If so, then Pres. James K. Polk is like "Person D" above, and the grandnephew relationship you suggest could be correct.
Also most of these served as officers in the U.S. military, and maybe/probably all of them are wikipedia-notable. For example Ezekiel Franklin Polk, I should be notable, as per Geni was a colonel in Revolutionary War and signed the 1775 Mecklenburg Declaration. (And he is Ezekiel Polk in Wikipedia.) Wikipedia also gives just "Samuel Polk", rather than "Samuel Ezekiel Polk" as Pres. James K. Knox's father.
There is a family tree at James K. Polk#Ancestors which had no wikilinks, but i just succeeded with wikilinking "Ezekiel Franklin Polk" to the wikipedia Ezekiel Polk article. Perhaps you could make more links?

After some back-and-forth, the table appears at Talk:United States presidential election, 2016/FEC filers, and is a non-mainspace table in a Talk subpage that supports discussion at Talk:United States presidential election, 2016. I myself requested deletion of the mainspace page version, which shows in the deletion edit's edit summary. It was a test page that needed to be in mainspace temporarily to test the "Edit" editor (which I think only works on mainspace pages) as opposed to the "Edit source" editor.
By the way, I eventually figured out an easy way to create a big table from a tabular source, using the "Copy & Paste Excel-to-Wiki Converter", which I didn't know about before. I was able take a 455-row table at this FEC webpage (2016 files by party) as of 07/09/2015 and make it into a wikitable by copy-pasting it into Excel and then copy-pasting from Excel to the Copy & Paste Excel-to-Wiki Converter (at http://excel2wiki.net/wikipedia.php). (I didn't check if the Excel step was necessary.) "Shawn Douglas" provides the tool, and it is a super! --doncram 17:07, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

Wikitable code problems

Could you please advise on the errors/anomalies in the hidden code contained in this message? I have tried to separate the two consecutive rows contained in the existing article-table into two tables for clarity (but leaving close-ish together), because the second entry has the wrong base parameters - it is not a 'fastest lap' award. I did some basic research a couple of weeks back but couldn't get the code to work at the time - it keeps loading the detail to the side, not into the table cells. Wiki-code writing for Dummies.

The first table shown below is as-added in this edit, 6th June 2014, where the pre-existing Susan Jenness prose was split-off and added to a new table. My very cursory research included a Facebook 'congratulations' to the award-winner from the husband of the late Susan Jenness.

Really, the table needs future expansion to accommodate all of the winners - it is awarded yearly but retrospectively, I think. No urgency. If you are satisfied then you could add the new tables, or I will. Think of it as a test-edit, to lure-out the watchers. Thanks and regards, --Rocknrollmancer (talk) 15:13, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi Rocknrollmancer, I would be glad to help. I thought at first you might mean the problem is the shading that appears in just the first row of each of several tables about awards at {[Isle of Man TT]]. I don't see why the first rows should be shaded (or are they highlighted as more important than other rows? if so why are the rows ordered as they are?). So in this edit I just removed the shading. If the first row shading makes sense to you, please explain.
But, you seem to be asking about the following draft tables, which I have to un-comment in order to see them.
  • ORIGINAL TABLE:
Race Trophy Rider(s) Machine Year Average speed Time
Fastest Newcomer Vernon Cooper Trophy Peter Hickman BMW S1000RR 2014 17:32.078 129.104 mph (207.773 km/h)
Fastest Female Susan Jenness Trophy Estelle Leblond SGR 600 cc 2013 22:09.547 102.161 mph (164.412 km/h)
  • ATTEMPT TO SEPARATE INTO TWO TABLES:
Other Special awards
Awarded for Trophy Rider(s) Machine Year Average speed Time
mph km/h
Fastest Newcomer Vernon Cooper Trophy Derek McGee Honda 1000 cc 2015 121.928 196.224 18:33.999
second table
Awarded for Trophy Rider(s) Machine Year
Most Meritorious Female Susan Jenness Trophy Maria Costello Kawasaki 600 cc 2015
I'll look at the above and comment. --16:38, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
Rocknrollmancer, how about the following:
Other Special awards
  • Fastest Newcomer: the Vernon Cooper Trophy
Rider(s) Machine Year Average speed Time
mph km/h
Derek McGee Honda 1000 cc 2015 121.928 196.224 18:33.999
Derek McGee, Jr. Honda 1000 cc 2016 121.928 196.224 18:33.999
  • Most Meritorious Female: the Susan Jeness Trophy
Rider(s) Machine Year
Maria Costello Kawasaki 600 cc 2015
Maria Costello, Jr. Kawasaki 600 cc 2016
It seems the tables can be indented if you like by any number of ":" characters; I indent the two differently just to demonstrate. In the second one, "rowspan=2" is not needed because each of the column titles are just one line tall. Are these okay? --doncram 16:53, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

Embargo'd

  • In response to your comments:
  • You're not wrong the info isn't always on WP, but that's a failure of the nature of the project: finding sources isn't always easy, & people to do the work don't always have the time. (Guilty on both counts.)
  • A link anchor like that isn't a bad idea. What you can also do, if it's sourced there, is just copy & paste here. (Beware of "orphaning" the refs, tho.)
  • I'm not sure there's enough for a separate page on the sanctions alone, just offhand, but I may be underestimating. If it covered the history, the Congressional debate (not in too much detail), the Japanese view, the intended aims, & the outcome (& how it wasn't what was desired), you could build a really valuable page. (Some I've seen are pretty stubby...including a few of mine. :( I dislike pages that aren't but a couple of lines, myself.)
  • As for starting, that's easy: grab a reliable source & put it in. :) I'd start with Wilmott. Toland, & especially Morrison, which should be available at any major university library. (If you can find it close, but not where you live, you can interlibrary loan.) Morrison, you want to get one volume at a time... I tend not to look for online sources; it's an age bias. Google Books would be good. (Just be sure you save the whole link address if you find something good, so you can go back; I downloaded a PDF, once, then couldn't track down the link... :( ). I suggest you put it in your own "draft sandbox" (like this: [[User:doncram/draft page|Embargo]]; you can change "draft page" & the piped title to anything you want). When done, a page move is easy. If you want advice, just ask. :) TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 18:50 & 18:51, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

Masonic buildings in Australia

I will let you finish your initial additions before I review them further (let me know when you are done) ... however, it would help if you would put former masonic buildings in the correct section. Blueboar (talk) 12:20, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Updating the count.

Thanks for your great disambiguation work. Note that when you update the count at Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links/July 2015, there are two places where it needs to be done (one in the template, and one in the description line above). Cheers! bd2412 T 23:34, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Warning

You have now edited Painted Rock Petroglyph Site twice. The first might have been inadvertent so you were quietly reverted and seemed to acknowlege your error at User talk:72.251.35.181. But you have now edited the same article again so it is unlikely a mistake. You have also edited I.O.O.F. Hall (Dunlap, Iowa), Odd Fellows Hall (Cambridge, Massachusetts), Odd Fellows Hall (Sandusky, Ohio) and NRHP listings at St George's Church. Please be careful. If you think these edits are allowed, refer to your warning of 16 November 2013 or check with any administrator familiar with your ARBCOM case. 72.251.34.237 (talk) 04:55, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

I have reverted your edit to the disambiguation page. Katherine Dexel is listed in a list of saints, so therefore the honorific is superfluous. None of the other saints in the list use the honorific on this page so it needs to be dropped for the sake of uniformity. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 22:02, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

Martin of Sheffield Okay, no problem. Or maybe they should all start with "Saint" in the dab page and in their articles because, like Saint Katherine Dexel, they are known that way. But I don't know. I defer to you and other editors in that area. --doncram 01:01, 19 July 2015 (UTC)

Don't mind me asking, but why are you submitting the disambiguation page to go through the AFC procedure? The Average Wikipedian (talk) 03:48, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

The Average Wikipedian. I don't mind your asking at all. I am very experienced, but, oddly, i am banned from creating articles directly. It causes some work for AFC volunteers. Thanks for your attention to it. --doncram 03:51, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

GEORGE operating system

I can't really help with the filing system side of things, I'm afraid. It seems a little arbitrary which operating systems are included in that table of file systems, as I imagine that most if not all distinct families of OSs will have had their own filing system. I haven't used GEORGE 2 since the early 1970s, or GEORGE 3 since about 1980, so my memories of it are fairly hazy. I think the GEORGE article has been updated fairly recently, so if you look at the edit history you may find some Wikipedians who remember more than I do. JH (talk page) 20:25, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
