Shades of Death Editor

[edit]

Daniel, I just created an account. Thought I could reach you more easily. I'm a nerd, but unfortunately my expertise is most definately not in computers... I'd add the citation.. but I have not a clue how to even read the form... The 'Book' I'm refering too isnt even an actual book. It is an NJDEP- NJGS report from 1917. Bulletin 18 (Geologic Series), compiled by Max Schrabisch. MacCrellish and Quigly Co. State Printers, Trenton 1917. Cool huh? I'm planning on adding a Mount Mohepinoke article once my information is compiled. I happen to live at the summit. CONCERN- since I created an account AFTER I wrote The Fairy Hole addition to Shades of Death, the edit is not attributed to this account. Is there anyway to change that? - Povalaguna Povalaguna (talk)

Better Courts for Missouri

[edit]

Hey. A few months ago, I believe you protected the page Better Courts for Missouri without quotation marks. I understand that you protected the page after some unsavory comments, but I would like to ask that you unprotect the page. "Better Courts for Missouri" is currently under review at WP:DRV but I would like to move the page while the review is still pending. I've added more sources, and worked hard at proving the notablility of the group at hand. Thank you for your time. (Twooclockjazz (talk) 15:00, 20 March 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Hi Daniel, I see that you put a temp block on that ip. I understand that it is a shared IP, but we have been getting a lot of vandalism from 165.21.15*.** of late. Even tonight we had to place a block on .16. I suggest that we put a short range block .155.** of 24 hours in hopes of the vandels deciding to give up. We have tried everything else with no hope. Re:Thank you for the compliments!

[edit]

No problem, you've done a great job on those articles. As for the HV tags, I adjusted the template to include categories, and I added it to maybe 60 or so articles (I'm sure there are at least 100 more). also, I have a bunch of images of just about everything from the state museum, so I'll look through them and see if I have one of Springside for you. Very well then, I'll look for them and see if I can upload them. Juliancolton The storm still blows... 13:34, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for those links, I'm sure they will come in useful. I requested a map, as you suggested. As for the pictures of the creek, I'm heading over there tomorrow to go trout fishing, so I may be able to get some pictures looking upstream. (Although I agree that a summertime picture would be better). Juliancolton The storm still blows... 13:57, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Meeker's Hardware Pepsi ad.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Meeker's Hardware Pepsi ad.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Can you review

[edit]

Ok, I know you're an administrator, so I've got a situation I think you should look into. This page 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment (United States) is a clear copyright violation of [1]. I have removed the copyvio portions three times now ([2], [3], [4]). Each time it has been re-inserted by the article creator Daniel Eger. Then, said user posted a rather incendiary message on my talk page saying that 1) the page isn't a copyright (however, if you look at the global security page it clearly shows at the bottom that the information on the page is copyrighted) and that it was 2) written by a person in his battalion. Then he quite incorrectly says that it wasn't taken from any one page, when it clearly is directly copy and pasted from the global security page. I warned the user on his talk page, which he promptly deleted [5]. As you can see, this is a clear copyright violation. Apparently I have been unable to get through to the user that he is breaking policy, perhaps you can assist? Batman2005 (talk) 17:10, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Additionally, he then claims that information covered in the Units section, is stuff that he wrote. At this point, all of that qualifies as original research, which is also not allowed. Batman2005 (talk) 17:14, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD

[edit]

Hi Daniel, I want to thank you for the suggestion that you made on the AfD regarding New Haven school Skittles incident. I hope that you won't mind me contacting you on your Talk page; I didn't want this conversation to take over the AfD. I appreciate your creative thinking about following the model you used with Tri-Valley Central School. However, I would like to raise a couple of concerns for your consideration.

  1. We have a policy Not to give undue weight to specific events. I'm afraid that some critic might come along and say, "We have to remove all this 2007 stuff from Tri-Valley Central School. It makes it look like this is the only thing the school has ever done. The school has been around since x and it has been the home of.... etc. We have to rip all this stuff out or maybe pair it down to just one sentence. That is all it deserves in an article about the whole school."
  2. From a standpoint of presenting, organizing, and finding information, it seems that if an article is primarily about topic Y then we should name the article topic Y. That also allows us to categorize it into categories that fit for Y. For instance, in the case of the New Haven Skittle article, this topic deserves to be categorized under Nutrition and Wellness; it would not really make sense to put the school into such categories.

Therefore, while I think that your approach is a creative way to maintain information on historical events such as this, I submit for your consideration that there are advantages to the more straight-forward approach of just having the article be about the incident. I look forward to your thoughts. Best, Johntex\talk 17:22, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You So Much

[edit]

Thank you for your recent note. I greatly appreciate your approval of my efforts so far. I have expanded the Town of Newburgh article greatly and also made some contributions to the Balmville, Orange Lake and Chadwick Lake articles. I am very careful not to delete anything you or anyone else contributed, with the exception of those very rare instances where there is an obvious typo (i.e. east side of the lake when you obviously mean west side). As time goes by I will be able to slim down much of what was written. One thing I want to stay away from is unnecessary repetition. I am also making some minor corrections (example: if you click on "Newburgh" in the East Coldenham Elementary School Disaster article you get referred to the City of Newburgh not the Town. I corrected that.) Something I am wondering also: in seeking citations, is a cross-reference considered the equivlent of a citation? Or does a foot note have to be added, also? I habe been very busy with work and am not going to have the time to put in that I have in the past, but so far I think basically my work is done. (Well, I guess it is really NEVER done, but at least I have gotten my feet wet.) As always, I welcome your comments, criticisms, and suggestions. Thank you! ~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nghtownclerk (talkcontribs) 15:52, 18 March 2008 (UTC) I keep forgetting to sign these things. Hi. I'm contacting you because you salted Better courts for missouri (which cascades to related caps) as a result of multiple recreations on February 3rd, but there is a new version of the article that survived AfD at "Better Courts for Missouri" which needs to be moved to Better Courts for Missouri per naming conventions. I presume that the unprotection of the page would be uncontroversial under the circumstances, but delaying to confirm that won't hurt anything. :) I've watchlisted your page. Just let me know please, if you've any objection, when you're on wiki. (As letting me know when you're off wiki would be more difficult.) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:01, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not trying to rush you, but if you have a chance to reply, I'd like to check this AfD off my to-do list. :) Do you have any objections to my unprotecting the page so I can move the article to its proper location? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:57, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Book Info

[edit]

Thanks for the heads up on the book. I hope you like what I have done with Newburgh (town), New York. Unfortunately, I have to force myself to stay away from it for awhile. It is like peanuts; you have to force yourself to give it up, and I have been spending far too much time with it. While laying in bed at night, I will think of something I should change, or add, or make clearer. That's not healthy. So the time has come to let someone else chip in. I wanted you to know that one of our Town Councilmen added a "direct link" between the Town's official web site and the article. I was rather taken aback when I heard that, because I don't know if that is acceptable to wikipedia or not. I have never seen that done with any other web site. Is it OK? Hope to hear from you soon.Nghtownclerk (talk) 00:05, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Great stuff!

[edit]

Dan, that really looks good. The Danbury historic district picture looked especially good, and you were able to get a good look at the buildings now that the leaves are off the trees. You've done great work in building up several articles, I see. I've got a list of things near Stamford and Norwalk I plan to get to before the leaves grow back on the trees. Another editor has done some great work on List of museums in Connecticut, which could point you to some interesting spots. If railroad museums interest you, there are two or three more in the state. For my picture-taking, I've tended to stick around southern Fairfield County so far, but I think I'll be taking occasional forays here and there. Have you seen Metacomet Ridge and all its 40 associated articles? I think that's the first Connecticut-area featured article. I learned from it that there are cactuses native to Connecticut. Your pictures are fantastic, please keep taking them. Noroton (talk) 15:25, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Years ago I remember taking a little antique train somewhere between Kingston and Woodstock. The Acela whizzes along the New Haven Line so often that I barely notice it when it passes by. Stamford and New Haven are both stops. There is a tiny museum in South Norwalk run by die-hard train enthusiasts called the Sono Switchtower Museum (picture). They'll talk your ear off about how workers would wait, then get notice that a train was coming, and start moving gears so that the train would either continue on the New Haven Line or go up the Danbury Line. The small Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk is a few blocks away and has an IMAX theater. Boats leave from a dock at the aquarium for harbor tours to the lighthouse, but I wouldn't bother with it unless the idea really interests you. South Norwalk (Metro-North station) is about a 10-minute walk to the Switchtower museum, with the aquarium another 10 minutes or so beyond that. This section of Norwalk is noted for its preserved buildings. I should write some of this up in a "Within walking distance" section of the South Norwalk station article. Re:Giving The Office project a boost

[edit]

I think getting it on the main page would be a great idea, but it would have to be cleared through the FAR that it's currently in. The best idea would be to have some of the original users who worked to promote it to FA class, as well as those of us who are involved in the Project to do some sweeps over it, and make sure it's at a sure FA class. Once we get that, then I think that getting it on the main page would be a great idea. As always, have a great day! Mastrchf91 (t/c) 18:33, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. Although I'll be gone for the next two days and won't be able to work on it, I'll have a practically free weekend in which I can hopefully implement some of the changes. I don't see recent discussion on WP Lakes/talk page, besides my input, or a listing of such a project...Is it a dead idea? Sincerely, Marcia Wright (talk) 14:19, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello Daniel,

You blocked my IP a while back, due to adding video links on Judoka articles on Wiki.. You told me to take it up with the martial arts wiki to discuss if the links could be allowed as a valuable addition to the written information.

I have added a question here:

http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:WPMA

but have not had any reponse so far, could you help me out a bit and point me in the right direction? What should I do, I truely think that videos of Judoka's in action are an extreme valuable addition to the articles.

Thank you for your time and effort!

Regards,

Evdz (talk) 00:02, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tip Daniel, I'll try that! Evdz (talk) 08:46, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your block on 87.189.65.193

[edit]

I noticed that you blocked me for "edit warring and disruptive behavior". Now I plead guilty on the first charge, so I wonder why you didn't block Collectonian‎? Was his edit warring more your flavor?

You are wrong however on the second charge. I honestly wanted to improve the article, Collectonian‎ didn't understand the changes I made an reverted them for that. If anything, you should chastise him for doing changes he does not understand and for failing to AGF.

So, what do you think? --87.189.110.194 (talk)

Why do you think I care whether some IP I'll probably never use again is unblocked? I asked you for your opinion, and I thinkt he polite thing would be to answer me. --87.189.82.196 (talk)
Ok then, have it your way. --87.189.113.214 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 20:37, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was also reviewing the AIV report and noted that the editor had said they would cease reverting - even though they had violated 3RR - so I left this comment. Under the circumstances, would it be okay to lift the block, per AGF and IAR? I don't think the editor is malicious, and there are people wanting to help him/her. I will do it, if you agree and prefer. LessHeard vanU (talk) 22:46, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Daniel Case. Would you 'revert' the anon's last edits at British Isles and Northern Ireland? I can't as I've reached my 2-revert limit. GoodDay (talk) 23:05, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Daniel Case. Also, I've just opened discussions with the anon. GoodDay (talk) 23:20, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You've blocked this for 1 month (at my request), but less is probably appropriate here - the AOL IPs the UPN vandal uses change frequently, I've seen him use 3 in one day. A 48 hour block would be enough. I'll ask for that next time - and there's bound to be a next time, he's been pushing this tired hoax for over a year now. Thanks for the block, btw. Block of IAmPwnSizzle

[edit]

Hello. My account IAmPwnSizzle was banned because you thought the name was inappropriate. However, I have examined the rules carefully, and I don't see what is wrong with such a moniker, and found it to be legitimate by the sites standards. if you could let me know of your reasoning that would be much appreciated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.80.150.19 (talk) 21:50, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

IP 123.116.225.244, 123.115.151.72, and the range 123.112.0.0 - 123.127.255.255

[edit]

Hey Daniel, I saw you blocked 123.116.225.244, there was also another IP with similar activity, 123.115.151.72. Just pointing it out. Also, I did a WHOIS, and it comes from quite a large range. As I pointed out here, it's a Chinese IP, which may cause some issues if we rangeblock it, but, would there be a way to keep an eye on those IPs? They probably could start IP hopping, but, like I said, it may be too far a range to block. What would you suggest here? And I hope I'm not stepping on your toes, so to speak, just trying to help out. Regards, Steve Crossin (talk to me) 06:57, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not going to change anything, but I just wanted to comment that you might have been a little harsh to block this user. Insulting isn't the same as offensive, and it was probably meant ironically. I would have let them edit for a bit. But what's done is done. DJ Clayworth (talk) 14:14, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I think maybe I've been too hard on some vandal-only accounts. I noticed that this user was only vandalizing, and yet you only blocked him for 24 hours. I was under the impression that vandalism-only accounts should always be indefblocked. If you could explain your thinking process on this, it would help me alot with my new mop. Hulked Up

[edit]

I could be wrong, but it seems like the IP editors who were vandalizing Powers and abilities of the Hulk have returned with a couple of aged socks to defeat the semi-protection. Check out User talk:Jupiterjoey31 and User talk:Rufus367. I notified User talk:Lord Sesshomaru since he filed the report for protection, and he suggested I let you know also. Thanks! Block of Sixpencentr

[edit]

I disagree with your block of User:Sixpencentr. That user was almost certainly not a promoter for Sixpence None the Richer, but a fan, and he was making constructive edits to that article (and some edits that were only unconstructive because our image policy is confusing). In other words, I think you've blocked a good-faith user. rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 18:34, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is one of those cases where discussion would be a lot more beneficial than blocking. I don't put any faith in arguments that we should block someone because otherwise something undesirable or confusing might happen later. I rarely think unblocking helps the situation once a newbie is blocked, but I will try it. They're a good-faith editor, so what is the "risk" you're talking about? rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 18:56, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The risk of other editors assuming an inability to follow NPOV due to the name and edit wars or such arising. No, really, why are we blocking newbies based on hypothetical mild risks? I have warned the user about this possibility, and that's the most that needed to happen. rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 19:21, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Long Cat Is Loooong ---bad name

[edit]

You banned an account: "Long Cat Is Loooong" for among other things a username violation saying: "Your account has been blocked indefinitely because it is a blatant violation of our username".

I'm curious as to how you think this name actually violates the username policy. It isn't profane, it's not attacking anyone, near as I can tell it isn't imperinating anyone, and it makes no suggestion that it's intention is not to make constructive edits. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.30.97.144 (talk) 18:24, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm actually going to support this block. The relevant block was for vandalism. I would say that Daniel weakened his justification for the block somewhat by making it a username block at the same time. rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 19:31, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The username in question had been noted as being tied to a 4chan meme. I added the username block just to make clear that similar usernames would not be tolerated. Daniel Case (talk) 20:34, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Membership Reconfirmation

[edit]

Hello there! If you're receiving this message, it means that you are currently in the Participants category of The Office WikiProject. A message involving reconfirmation was included in the current newsletter, but it was a bit buried, and I wanted to make sure that everyone received notice of this so we can get as accurate of a count as we can. The WikiProject is currently trying to find how many users listed in the Participants section are active members, and if you have a spare moment later, it would be a big help if you noted your reconfirmation by simply signing your signature here. And if you're a non-member reading this, feel free to drop by and add your name to the reconfirmation category; you'll be added into the list once it's finished. Thanks, and have a great day! Help with a potential DYK

[edit]

Hi again. I've created an entry for the Decker Building which the more I look into it, the more interesting it is. I'm planning on taking it's picture tomorrow, and further fleshing out the Warhol connection.

I feel there's a DYK in there, but have never done one before. Can you give a hand or a pointer? Thanks dm (talk) 06:55, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article has potential, but it will need more text. The guideline is 1500 characters, minimum, not counting infoboxes and references. (Not actually counting), I'd estimate that it's at about 700 now.--Appraiser (talk) 12:57, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It appears to be around 2000 characters now. I'm thinking the DYK would be "the Decker building, an 1892 Moorish influenced design, is where Andy Warhol had his Factory from 1967-1973, started his time capsule series, and was shot in 1968." Or is that too much? dm (talk) 05:17, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I like it.--Appraiser (talk) 12:01, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's in, now I just cross my fingers. Thanks for your help dm (talk) 04:15, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

a new article for DYK

Hello, Daniel Case, there is a new article on a Chinese athlete Jin Jing. We want to push this article onto the "Did you know" on the main page. Could you give us some comments on the talk page of that article? How should we improve that article? If it's a good one, could you please help us put this article onto the "Did you know"? Adirondacks

[edit]

Hi, Daniel, how are you? Word on the street (actually, Ruhrfisch tipped me off) is that you're an aspiring Adirondack Forty-Sixer (if you're not one already). I've recently written the biography for Bob Marshall (wilderness activist), who you might be aware of; he was one of the three original 46ers. I was wondering if you would be willing to look it over and perhaps comment at the peer review? I'm hoping to take the article to FAC in the next few weeks, but I would love to know how it stands from the POV of someone with experience not only with Marshall's favorite region, but with hiking, camping, etc. I don't like to climb hills, let alone mountains, so I'm not an expert by any means. :) If you don't have the time, no worries. I don't want it to be too wordy, but I think it should include information about it being a military hospital for Confederate soldiers and as offices for the Freedmen's Bureau before it was used as an educational building. Do you think it needs to include all of that? Thanks. (P.S. Although the edit history shows April 12th as the first edit, it's because it was is in my sandbox until last night.) PT boats, RI and MA

[edit]

Hi Daniel -- Have fun this weekend. I'm going to upload some historic pics to illustrate the PT 617 article, I'm glad it will benefit sometime from your better ones. PT 796 also at the PT Boat Museum awaits you, as far as i am concerned, like the RI NHLs do, and I don't expect to get into the MA NHL list either for awhile. I am mostly working with others on the VA NHL list now. We have about 300 NHLs elsewhere to finish, then your backyard is getting saturated, too. :) doncram (talk) 17:20, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome news about scoring all the remaining 44 NHLs in the state of Rhode Island! Yikes about a $44.00 tab to get into the PT Boat Museum. Sounds like a great activity for u + son, if he doesn't mind so much. :) FYI, Altairisfar completed out pics for Alabama's 36 NHLs recently, and Elkman and perhaps Appraiser and others finished out Minnesota's 22, but RI would be the biggest yet. Since states with undisclosed archeological sites would be harder to finish out, perchance that's the biggest state possible to complete out, too. (Oh, related to that, I never succeeded in contacting u off-record, would u mind sending me an email via red wikipedia email box on my userpage?) If u'r still on-line, check the main page right now to see my first DYK, which is a leading one with pic, for Carter Hall (Millwood, Virginia). I am v. proud. :) doncram (talk) 04:30, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I give up: which is firehouse #3?

[edit]

I was looking at Lady Washington Hose Company and wanted to add mentions of the two other firehouses that are on the NRHP. The second one is obviously O. H. Booth Hose Company, but I couldn't find the third. Nothing matches either in Category:Poughkeepsie, New York (so it hasn't been created) or on List of Registered Historic Places in Dutchess County, New York (so if it's there, it's under a name that is not recognizable). Can you help me? Circeus (talk) 20:46, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jahar Dasgupta

[edit]

Hi Daniel! Sorry to bother you, but I was just curious - you blocked User talk:Jahar.dasgupta for an inappropriate username, but as I understand it the accusation was that he shared the same name as the article Jahar Dasgupta. I presume from that he wasn't really Jahar Dasgupta? Or is there another issue at play? No hassles either way - I'm just curious, more than anything. - Bilby (talk) 05:44, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No hassles - I figured that either you had a good reason, or that you would know what to do (presuming it hadn't already been done). Thanks heaps for letting me know. - Bilby (talk) 14:32, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have you had a look at his edit history? [7] Every single edit has to do with his wikispamming himself into articles. How can it be argued that he isn't "using it [his account] solely for promotional purposes"? I believe your original block was correct. Now that you've looked at his diffs, do you think it should be reinstated? Thanks again for your continued attention to this! Qworty (talk) 17:27, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe I see what you're saying. Am I wrong in assuming that one blockable problem with usernames is COI? Isn't that why corporate usernames are blocked? If you now agree that he should be blocked for COI/spam, would you care to do so, or is there somewhere specific I should go to request that, such as the COI Noticeboard? Thanks again. WP:UAA comments

[edit]

Hey -- just FYI, I've noticed you have often left a note like "Discussing with user" or such on the WP:UAA board. Whenever I see those comments, I simply remove the entry: I know that a lot of these users won't ever respond, so it does little good to leave the report up. If there's a reason I'm not seeing why you don't just remove the entries yourself, it might be helpful if it was made a bit more explicit. Thanks! Mangojuicetalk 17:43, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It also wouldn't make sense to me to leave "left concern" on the noticeboard. Either way, that's you processing the report as far as I can understand. What should we check on later, exactly? Mangojuicetalk 18:47, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hm. When I leave messages for these users, I just stick their talk page on my watchlist, and then I never hear from them, but I would if they responded there. Mangojuicetalk 18:51, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

expansion

[edit]

How can I tell how much an article has been expanded to qualify for DYK? I see comments that an article has been expand 5x or more. I'm sure there's a simple way to check, but can you tell me how to see the number of characters in an article? I want to expand the Christ Episcopal Church (Raleigh, North Carolina) article. Thanks. APK yada yada 16:20, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification - It won't be difficult to see if there's a 5x expansion on the article I mentioned because it's so short, but I was asking about other articles in general. APK yada yada 18:24, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Daniel Case. I have been creating some articles from your neck of the woods, in Catskill. Just want to be sure you don't have a backlog of pics you didn't get to yet from there. If you do, please let me know and I'll stop with the Catskill articles. My cousin lives there, and I took the pics when visiting. I'm fairly new to Wikipedia, and don't want to invade anyones territory! I have noted how much work you've done in the Hudson Valley, and lately in RI and I'm very impressed. I'm trying to start doing an article a day. My favorite part is the pics...feel free to add any text you like to anything I've done. BTW, I see from your user page that you went to UB and SU. I started my college career at UB in '80 (didn't end up graduating from there), and I am currently one class away from a Masters in Accounting at SU. New Project

[edit]

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. Daniel, you're not so bad yourself there, your output is right up there with anyone's. Yep, had my preferences set to watch pages I edited, and wa-bam! huge watchlist, it just became addictive after that. Re:We Lost

[edit]

Yes, we lost, but it was a valiant fight. Although the article is no longer featured, it has undoubtedly benefited greatly from the process. As you said, of the concerns that were raised, some were valid, and some weren't, but many of those valid ones can be incorporated relatively easy into the article. As for the nomination/Main Page idea/dates, I think that they all look great and are easily achievable. I'll add your plans to the next newsletter, and most likely keep a small section in every newsletter about them, as well as the current status of the article. The article will soon hold it's featured star once again. -Mastrchf (t/c) 21:06, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I noticed that Dunder Mifflin was saved from AfD, but I hadn't noticed the great work that you've been doing on the article. It'll be good to have at least one non-episode/episode list article that has been recognized, now that the main page is de-featured. When placing UAA templates...

...could you indent them so the show up more or less inline with the name they're discussing? It makes viewing the UAA board a bit easier. Thanks! EVula // talk // // 17:38, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, turns out the problem was that there were two noinclude tags back to back, causing a return to be transcluded every time the template was used.[15] Indentation is fixed now.
I'll make sure to only yell at you in the future for stuff that is actually your fault. My bad. ;) EVula // talk // // 19:31, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Daniel, I started this AfD soI'm not opposed to deletion, but the article was twice speedy deleted, never through an AfD (at least not with this title, if it had one under another name I apologize). G4 should only be used for pages that were deleted in an AfD or DRV, not through a speedy. I would urge you to repoen the AfD and to restore the articlke, so that due process can be followed. Daniel Case/Archive 3/13/2008-6/29/2008, just a note of appreciation for your recent support of my request for adminship, which ended successfully with 112 supports, 2 opposes, and 1 neutral. If there's something I've realized during my RFA process this last week, it's that adminship is primarily about trust. I will strive to honour that trust in my future interactions with the community. Many thanks! Gatoclass (talk) 06:26, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou kindly Daniel :) And while I have the opportunity, I'd also just like to say thanks for all the hard work you do on the suggestions page, it's a great assistance to those trying to prepare updates, and I'm sure I speak on behalf of all the DYK regulars when I say that. NYSR participants list

[edit]

As discussed at WT:USRD, the participants list at WP:USRD is being split by state. Since your name has multiple states listed next to it, the designation "NY" has been removed from the large USRD-wide table, and your name has been added to the NY-specific table. This is part of the lengthy process. If this is in error, please let me know immediately. Regards, Rschen7754 (T C) 04:53, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your participation in my recent request for adminship. Could you look into this...

[edit]

User:Angela2109 ran into some trouble with image uploads. You unblocked her. It appears that User:Die Profis - Die nächste Generation is now indiscriminately tagging ALL of the images she uploaded for deletion, without checking them and without regard for whether or not they are copyright infringements. Since you are familiar with this situation, and you pledged to help her out, perhaps you could look into this. User:Die Profis - Die nächste Generation is largely an SPA whose sole purpose appears to be to get Angela2109's images all deleted. I can't make heads or tails of what is going on, but since you seemed to be on top of this situation already, I thought I could see what you thought and how we should proceed... --Jayron32.talk.contribs 16:53, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image taggings

[edit]

Hi. I just noticed that one of the photos that the person uploaded I have seen somewhere else before and checked to see if there were any more problematic images. I asked what to do here [17] and just followed instructions after presenting evidence. I have had no malice towards the person who did them, but there is something fundamentally wrong about taking images and passing them off as their own. Especially the most blatant one of a photo of New York in the 1970s which they claimed was self-made, but they on their user page claim to be a "20 something photgrapher" - so unless they have a time machine, they could not have taken a photo of New York City then. The evidence was a pattern of behaviour, something that hopefully will change in future. I had no malice or no desire to have anyone banned, just wanted to make things right. I did not take unilateral action, I asked what was the proper thing to do after finding a problem. Die Profis - Die nächste Generation (talk) 03:04, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you expressed concern about Die Profis - Die nächste Generation. I recently had an ordeal with some socks and had no choice but to bow out of a wiki project. This individual should have been smart and stopped placing my name here and there. So I am will express my concern that the above may be this individual who is in fact connected to a throng of other socks. He also deleted every image I have put up to the now abandoned project. I don't think it is fair for other users to have to suffer. The irony is this individual can potentially be an outstanding editor. He has made legit contibutions and is very committed. However it is clear that communication, collaboration, and compromise are foreign concepts to him. He should have his own personal site to do with what he pleases. Hi. Libro0 accused me above of being a sockpuppet. I replied to him on his talk page and he seems to think my taking him to task was " worst thing you could have done" then goes to insult me. Libr0

[edit]

Hi. As best I can figure out he suspects that I am a sockpuppet because I edited two articles about trading cards I found randomly, just adding the metric measurements, and then tagged images for deletion that were copyvios. He apparently has badgered users who edited the trading card articles. He aeems like a bit of a crackpot since he seemed to propose that editors give their credit card info to prevent sockpuppets. [18] So he really has a bee in his bonnet about that issue. Die Profis - Die nächste Generation (talk) 23:22, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dunder Mifflin

[edit]

It's long past now, but I just wanted to let you know that I don't hold any grudges over the Dunder Mifflin deletion discussion. I was in your position once; I mounted some deletion drives (my little crusade once summer was the many unsourced, likely nn articles on drinking games. I got about half of them deleted) but since then I've backed off. Your nomination did result in considerable improvements to a then-rather disorganized and poorly-sourced article; exactly the sort of collaborative dialectic by which Wikipedia works. I understand and accept that you have the best interests of the project in mind. Daniel Case (talk) 14:03, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I completely understand and am on the same page. There was certainly no acrimony meant in my 'crusade', as it were. If anything I actually have a personal prejudice towards being a fan of the show, I just make a sincere effort never to allow subjective motivation enter into the editing I do on Wikipedia. Even though I did not prevail in my efforts I am glad it acted as a catalyst for improvement in the article. Looking back I garnered quite a bit of useful knowledge from the experience that I hope I am putting to good use in the Vandalism Patrol. I just wanted to thank you for your gracious reply and I apologize for the delay in a response (my life has been a tad hectic lately). I know the core motivation in both our minds was the success of the project. Be well. LeilaniLad (talk) 13:58, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was recently speaking to a prospective new editor, recounting the interesting experiences had while editing Wikipedia and mentioned the debate we were involved in over this article. I hadn't looked at it in ages, but when I read it today I was very impressed. The article is concise, well cited and certainly deserving of the GA status it has been given. You are a credit to the project sir. LeilaniLad (talk) 21:46, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Could you please explain why you blocked this user?

As far as I can see, it was a new user trying to make a valid contribution. I see absolutely no sign of vandelism - just a poorly-worded new article, and overwriting of a redirect (which I would presume to be a genuine mistake; AGF).

I'm afraid you might've just killed off a user who may have been a useful contributor - a far worse crime than any vandalism, I think.

Thanks for followup. Do hope that you can follow interesting detours to those NHLs on the way up to Albany. I am afraid pretty soon we will look back fondly at $4.00 gasoline. I am delaying FL nomination for a few days, in case Ruhrfisch can come through with a copy-editor to do a review, anyhow, so while the extra pics aren't necessary for the nomination, you may end up getting them in beforehand. Neat about the RI list now being fully illustrated, i think i hadn't noticed its final completion that way. If the NY NHL list, having been peer reviewed already, gets through FL, it may streamline the way for the List of NHLs in RI. But also, if you put the RI list up for wp:PR, we would get feedback helpful for the NY NHL list too. The NRHP/NHL/NMON/etc. color scheme and other features common to both were developed after NY NHL's PR. So i hope you will put it up for PR, if you are ready. doncram (talk) 18:21, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Daniel. I'm not sure who to ask, but I was wondering why the DYK hook for Restoration of the Everglades wasn't chosen from May 25. It seems the articles above and below this one were verified or checked, but this one wasn't. I appreciate your response. Thank you. --Moni3 (talk) 02:10, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Daniel, thanks for the tips. If you look at some of my other contributions to the area NHL lists like the St Peters Episcopal Church in Albany, the General Electric Research Laboratory in Schenectady or the John Trumball House in Connecticut, you'll see I generally try to get an oblique angle for buildings as well. Unfortunately, what the NHS site doesn't show is that the smaller building directly up the road is contiguous with the building and the road Eighth Street intersects -- Route 7 -- is a four lane highway and the busiest thoroughfare in Troy. The NHS must have hit it at a really slow time (or maybe when the road was closed?) to get some of those shots. It's also located in a less than savory neighborhood. There was a domestic disturbance playing out with police down the road at the time I took the pictures, so I didn't really want to linger. -Cg-realms (talkcontribs) 22:23, 30 May 2008 (EDT)

Good luck! If you do manage to get a better photo, please move my photo to the article's existing gallery rather than deleting it outright. -Cg-realms (talkcontribs) 22:45, 30 May 2008 (EDT)

Thanks and a question

[edit]

First of all, thanks for all your work at DYK – I know it's a laborious task, and I doubt the DYK folks get the appreciation they deserve. Have a donut.

You mentioned in response to the proposed hooks for La Peau de chagrin that the section heads in French should not be in French. I disagree with this; only two of the section are titled in French, and for specific reasons (they're not easily translated, and they're both direct quotes). Perhaps you can clarify? Maybe we should discuss on the article's talk page? – Scartol • Tok 11:19, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers for the fix, and thanks again for all your hard work at DYK. – Scartol • Tok 14:14, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Things visible from New York State Route 32

[edit]

Hi Daniel. The WP:NOR questions surrounding text supported by accompanying images is interesting and something I have wondered about. I often do my own photography for pages I create or substantially add to, and I realized early on that the photographs themselves constituted a kind of original research and that, furthermore, the original photos seemed to be encouraged on Wikipedia. I had never read WP:OI before this morning, but I had figured out its essence by looking at other Wikipedia articles. I think it's perfectly OK to use non-judgmental descriptions in the photo captions. However, I think it's best to avoid possible OR statements in the main text. I see what you are saying about the New Paltz instance, but I noticed a larger pattern of description of variations in the scenery that seemed unsupported by anything. An example would be: "... at the junction with Malden Turnpike (Ulster County 34), Route 32 turns westward, apparently toward the escarpment, and starts climbing through some rock cuts." I don't know for sure that this is OR, but I am raising the question. "Apparent" to whom? How does the author know the road is "climbing"? How can the "rock cuts" at this point be verified? I am unsure how this level of detail could be accumulated without personal research. Finetooth (talk) 17:19, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One of the nice aspects of peer review from the reviewer's perspective is that the review comments can take the form of observations or questions rather than anything resembling marching orders. I find interesting the question of to what extent an original image can be used to verify a point in the text. I don't really know the answer to the question. I don't think you've gone over the line so far as to cause an editorial uproar, and you might not be over the line at all. The article, by the way, is quite good, and I like the photos. Your GA nomination of Dunder Mifflin

The article Dunder Mifflin you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold. It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. Hi Daniel; I note that you have given this user a {{usernameconcern}} message. Obviously there is no argument as to the unsuitability of the name - it is specifically prohibited in Wiki policy. I think it is fair to say that you and I have slightly different tolerance levels; I would have given an immediate {{usernameblock}}. But I would not argue, and you may well have consensus view with you. My question - how long would you wait for an answer before action, given that the name must ultimately go? --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 19:07, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Office WikiProject Newsletter
Issue V - June 2008
Around the watercooler
  • The Office (U.S. season 2) failed as a Featured List Candidate on May 2.
  • The Office (U.S. TV series) was delisted as a Featured Article on May 4. User:Daniel Case is currently in working to run the article through the entire gauntlet:Peer review, Good article nomination, and once again Featured Article Candidacy. Any help with the article through the next few months approaching the season 5 premiere would be greatly appreciated.
  • Dunder Mifflin was nominated for GA-status on May 8. It is currently on-hold after a review. Please visit the article and help improve it.
  • Survivor Man was nominated for GA-status on May 18, but has not yet been reviewed.
  • Please continue to keep a look-out for anyone who has substantial experience in editing articles pertaining to The Office. If they're not already in the project, informing them about it would be a great idea.
  • The WikiProject page itself is still in need of some help. If anyone could spruce it up, that would be a great help.
From the desk of Mastrchf91

Thanks for taking the time to read this fifth edition of the project's newsletter. As always, thanks to anyone who made any type of edit that improved an article relating to The Office. The size of the edit or edits does not matter, as any help ultimately helped out that article, and thus the entire Project. As always, don't forget to check into the project main page every once and a while, where I will periodically post announcements that are related to different events. Have a great month everybody, and happy editing!

If you would like to offer any suggestions on the creation, appearance, or any other matter of the newsletter, please message me at my talk page. I'm bound to miss something that's happened with the project, so if I miss anything, please inform me of the error.

Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. If you have another method, you can use that, too. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Useight (talk) 17:51, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Block of Pixelsmart

[edit]

I don't have any strong feeling either way about changing Pixelsmart's block from a hardblock to a softblock, allowing him to choose a new username, but he certainly can't use his company name as a username, especially since he used it to create an article promoting his own commercial research. I also note that Jpgordon neither unblocked him nor contacted me, so I'm not sure how much to make of his comments. Best, MCB (talk) 06:58, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Weird NJ cover.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Weird NJ cover.jpg.

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 11:27, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

forking Devil Wears Prada production

[edit]

I noticed that you were in the process of forking this content off, and I'd like to recommend that you not do this at the moment. I think that the section, though large, is not yet excessively so to the degree that it requires a separate section at this point, largely because it still has a fair bit of cruft and PR-ish-ness left in it. I believe that with some considered pruning and consolidation, there is no reason why it cannot remain an intact part of the main film article, and in the process more strongly conform to the style guidelines for film articles - thus making it a stronger candidate for higher assessment levels. Thanks, Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 18:30, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm mainly referring to the lists towards the end which verge on trivia, but also to the excessive - IMHO - quote-picking where summarization of the essential ideas being conveyed would be more efficient and professional. Either way, I'm not convinced that this needs splitting, as we do have a healthy number FAs with dense sections regarding production, themes, or legacy. (And I'm not aware of any of them having split their production information off.) More pressing, however, is that I do firmly believe that if you divorce the bulk of the content about the creation of the film away from the film's article, then whatever is left will be too insubstantial to make it possible for the film article itself to ever reach FA status. Again, I would strongly advise against a course of splitting. Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 18:47, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Recent stuff

[edit]

Hey, glad you like the portal. I figured, given the Hudson Valley is a fairly important region, it deserves its own portal. I had fun making it, as well. I actually had no idea that those articles are yours, but now that I look at it, only one or two of all the selections weren't created by you. Sorry about that incorrect change I made to US 9 in NY. I thouth it was against the MoS, but I learned something new. About NY 32, I figured it would look better with the pictures spread out, but now it looks great with the new ones you've added. Yea, that'd be great if you could get some photos of NY 28 if you get a chance. I live not too far off, but I don't go up there too often. I'm pretty busy with some current projects, but more articles to work on are always welcome.

I have a question related to the WP:HVNY. According to this list I had someone put together, there are almost 4,300 articles in Category:Hudson Valley and all it's subcategories and subsubcategories and so on. As only about 300 or so have the {{Hudson Valley}} tag, do you know of an efficient way to tag and assess them all? Thanks, Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 01:40, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, I see you're busy, and yes, the heat really isn't conducive to sitting down and editing much. About the article tagging, it'd be great if you could help out with some of the articles you didn't create. I was planning on waiting until the proposal to add C-Class is closed before starting, though.
Yeah, I know pictures taken from inside a car aren't nearly as high quality as taken from outside. Whenever I can, I try to park and get out of the car, but that's easier said than done on the more major routes with a line of traffic behing me.
That would be good to have some pictures of I-84. I have several from the Fishkill/Beacon area but they're not very scenic. Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 17:46, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're gaming the system as using too transparent sockpuppetry, and the checkuser never declined the case. I've written over 400 articles step by step along with getting articles to have 7 WP:DYK and helped anyone who needs my help for articles related to Korean culture. That is quite opposite to that you only have edited 9 times in 3 years and then appeared to blank the same content just as the OCN user did after your 8 month break? That is highly unlikely that you spot the article very soon after your long break. I've followed the every rule to resolve the issue, and among them what have you done? Nothing but just blanking the Korean mention and their job as manhwa artist along with several vandalism on other manhwa related articles from your possible sock IP. Keeping block

[edit]

Just wanted to thank you for not unblocking 로그인 계정 만들기‎. IMHO in our efforts to be welcoming to new contributors, we've tended to be too lenient with trolls and other time wasters which unfortunately just encourages them, and I'm glad at least some admins are being stricter with people who obviously have no intention to contribute constructively. BTW, a little research shows their username means "Create an account or login" so was likely taken from the Korean wikipedia as it obviously appears at the top of every page for anons, e.g. take a look at ko:Main Page. At the very least, it's an inappropriate username. Nil Einne (talk) 14:46, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps I went a bit far in saying it was clearly inappropriate but it seems to me that someone apparently blindly copying a phrase which is pretty meaningless in the context doesn't really have an appropriate username (I'm not sure but I suspect if I called myself "Encyclopedic content must be verifiable" I would at least receive a request to change my username). In any case, I suspect you could argue this is misleading, as a Korean speaking person with limited command of English may click on the username in a signature or edit history in an attempt to log on or create an account and be mystified when they end up on a user page. The community generally agrees on the use of Tourism template and the use of continent-specific templates like {{Tourism in Africa}} is common. He just keeps reverting it over and over again for several months. Thanks a lot. - Darwinek (talk) 18:12, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Obvious Sockpuppets

[edit]

A fellow contributor, Sesshomaru recommended to me that I bring this up to you. I would like to point out that there's some obvious sockpuppets of Wiki-star floating around. I am extremely sick and tired of this person and I feel that by now, he would have quit, after more than four or so years of causing chaos on the same wikipedia pages over and over and over again, adding gibberish, and causing mayhem by reverting with a slew of sockpuppets. As if it weren't enough that he used my user name along with the user names of a slew of other wikipedia members and administrators to create sockpuppets, he has still not stopped this behavior. I had to bring this up to you, since many people find that ignoring him is the best thing to do. However, he recently came to my user page with an anonymous ip address and vandalized. He also recently posted a message on a forum of mine saying that he will incessantly continue to vandalize every wikipedia page he can just so he can have me banned through causing a revert war. Basically, it's what he did to have me banned in the first place approximately 2 years ago. I am still annoyed over that affair. I don't know how to put an end to this person's stupidity. He's been showcasing this same behavior right now at wikiquote, with a slew of sockpuppets, somewhere around 60 sockpuppets. However, I do think that this calls for some protection against his relentless vandalism. I have adhered to wikipedia standard and I find myself agreeing with TTN and others when it comes to trimming the current profiles on the pages. This person has however promised to continue causing chaos just for the sake of doing it. I find this in itself moronic. I'm sure that as someone who wants these vandalizers stopped, you're as sick of this garbage as I am, and that is why I am bringing it up. Here are two recent names I can easily attribute to his stupidity: Frieza and Vegeta Forever and Count Magnus Lee. I know that it is wrong to assume the worst of anyone, but when all things point in the same direction, there is only one thing we can do which is wrong...and to do nothing is the worst of all. Maybe the pages should be protected from edits by new users, in order to prevent further escalating problems in the future, which at this rate, is bound to happen again. In order to prevent further problems, one must deal with them before they become greater. I hope you understand the situation as a fellow contributor and I hope that you will help put a stop to this menace. I have tied the following ip addresses with his recent activity: 71.61.116.66 and 71.236.93.96. Please see to it that his most recent user names as well as ip's are dealt with, and furthermore, if I find more obvious sockpuppets, I will bring them up for your review. Zarbon (talk) 22:59, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recently, it appears he created another sockpuppet, King Zarbon to try and frame me. He has been following my contributions around and pretty much causing havoc and chaos everywhere. Please help put a stop to this vandal. Zarbon (talk) 23:04, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another name that seems to be tied to his vandalism is ShadowFrieza. I will further add more highly suspicious names I can locate for your checks. Zarbon (talk) 23:08, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Account created automatically ‎

[edit]

Hi Daniel, I want to know further about above matter. As I noticed number of account created automatically in this process:

Some of them may be offensive term (anus bleeding, butt-hurt, Gräwp rāpes, cǒck). Once I reported an User:Vipbot, but it declined as an account of another wiki created by automatically. But as far as I know "Bot" could only be approved via Bot Approvals Group. BTW, I have found another account similar to your account (User:Daniel case). It might make confusion (though the the letter "c" is in small case.

I have not reported or discussed with them yet. As an experienced admin, could please clarify the above concerns? Thank you--NAHID 09:02, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rockland County

[edit]

Daniel, absolutely. I probably have a good number of these already just from living in Rockland for so long. One, however, is going to be a problem unless we have a time-traveler in our midst. Tappan Zee Playhouse was torn down and gutted. It stood as a vacant lot for a few years until it began to be rebuilt as subsidized housing and a market. See here. was the proposed discussion, I can't find the "oh no they didn't" article from once it occured. Then again it shouldn't surprise me. I know I have Hopper House and some of the others, will easily gathers those I don't. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 18:27, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh that story is sad. When I was doing a course in cultural heritage tourism in Prague last summer, I was drawn into the story of Dresden's potential loss of its world heritage listing and became even more interested in preservation issues. It's sad that more people don't recognize the value in these places. Living history tells far more then signs about where something used to be. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 19:18, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hyatt-Livingston House. That sounds familiar. I may have something on it in my father's papers. I'll have a look for it. His family was in Rockland County for a long time and he may have some good clippings we can use. Tarrytown, yes, I love the photos and that's a reminder to me to look on the wall at the station for the article title and date as to when they tried to get it landmarked. I haven't been able to find it online yet. Working on Tarrytown was fun, I pass through there most days :) I want to work on the Playhouse as well as the Hopper House, both of which I should be able to do fairly quickly and easily given that they're a ~10 minute walk from my mom's place. Re Citations

[edit]

I absolutely do not have a problem with cite templates, it is the case that I prefer not to use them in the articles that I expand, but the format of that particular citation in the Anna Wintour article seemed out of place in comparison with how the 100 other citations were formatted. I simply thought it would look neater if I rearranged the citation to match the others. I hope this wasn't a problem? Eagle Owl (talk) 17:07, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello & a question

[edit]

Hi,

I'm a graduate student at Cornell University who's interested in studying how editors collaborate on Wikipedia. I noticed that you were listed as a maintaining editor on several articles and I was hoping that you might be willing to talk to me briefly about your involvement on those pages and Wikipedia more generally.

Thanks, Jthomsant (talk) 03:42, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another Question

[edit]

Reviewing my watchlist, I noticed that you reviewed the unblock request for User: Mtracy9. In your denial you listed that perhaps the "email list" would be a better way for him to go in getting his block reviewed. My question is would I be contacted, as the complaining editor so to speak, if this avenue was taken, or will it be based solely on the Arbcom case, and the AE report? I'm not familiar with this process, and would want to be prepared if I am needed.

FTR-- I am not the only one who strongly believe that RPJ and Mtracy9 are the same. Three neutral admins came to the same conclusion, as well as most of the editors on the relevant articles. However, if I am shown that I was wrong, I'd have no problem with the block being lifted and apologizing to Mtracy9 personally. Ramsquire (throw me a line) 23:16, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Seal of Summit, NJ.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Seal of Summit, NJ.jpg.

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:16, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Chytridiomycosis

[edit]

Hi, You blocked me after I put up this link on the [chytridiomycosis] page: http://www.savethefrogs.com/threats_to_frogs/index.html?tab=2#chytrid I attempted to put up a request for that to be reviewed as I think it is unfair, but I am not sure if I correctly entered the request. Could you please see that it is reviewed. The external link in question is a thorough review of chytridiomycosis and is an invaluable resource to anyone interested in chytridiomycosis. The page exists on the website of a nonprofit organization, on a page where nothing is being sold. There is no reason why the external link should not be allowed. Rubendesh (talk) 04:42, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! You put the DYK nom of Ulrik Frederik Cappelen on "maybe", citing that "I can't find either Finnmark or Westvold on the page (yes, it's in Norwegian, I know) cited for footnote 5". Well, if we agree that footnote 5 is "Norwegian Counties - World Statesmen.org", then indeed both Finnmark and Vestfold (note the spelling) feature on the page (which is even written in English). Alternatively, you could search for Cappelen and his name comes up twice. A misunderstanding here, or..? Punkmorten (talk) 08:29, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That Chytridiomycosis article

[edit]

You stated that the link http://www.savethefrogs.com/threats-to-frogs/index.html?tab=2#chytrid would not provide good info beyond what would be contained if the chytridiomycosis article became a featured article. This is completely incorrect. The URL in question has far more detail than the Wikipedia page. Secondly, the other links I posted are irrelevant as they are to a completely different page. The abovestated URL was placed only on the [chytridiomycosis] page, which is where it belongs. Rubendesh (talk) 21:29, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"If you're only going to bother checking articles where you know something about the subject, go find something else to do." You clearly weren't aware, but User:Blechnic had already retired in disgust over this, so your comment sounds particularly unfortunate.
