The title

[edit]

Hi, I see that you wrote the article Exchange Students. Where do you have that English title from? Because the Japanese 転校生 is not an "exchange student" (which is 交換留学生), but rather a "transfer student". Anyway, as long as there seems to be no official English title (the movie has not been marketed abroad), I suggest that the title be "Tenkōsei".--Mycomp (talk) 12:26, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adding awarded films

[edit]

Hi Cattus: Thanks for all your work on the Japanese film entries, especially detailing the various awards. I see you have also been adding award information to the Cinema of Japan entry. Work on that quite sad page is much needed and appreciated. I myself have slowly been trying to clean it up. But I wonder if adding award information is the best way to do this. One of the problems I find with that page, and one you don't see on good "Cinema of" pages on Wikipedia, is that it has descended into being a list of films with no narrative or argument. I fear that adding award information will only add to that aspect, even as it does add more information to the page. Some major awards, such as Rashomon's at Venice, that were historically significant, should be mentioned, but I wonder whether most of the award information should not be kept to page for each of the films. There is the danger of the gist of the article getting lost in excess information. I can also imagine this raising problems of selection: many, for instance, have long considered the Japan Academy Prize to be of little value because it is so biased towards the major studios (the Japanese Wikipedia entry details this). To many, the historically longer and more neutral awards such as the KineJun Best One are more valuable. One can argue with that, but that underlines the problem of who decides what to include in the entry and what not. One can't include all of the awards in the Cinema of Japan entry. Again, I wonder if they are not better off on the each film's page. In the article, one could list some of the major awarded films in a decade, but in the end I think the standard on Wikipedia is to mention films in a clear historical narrative. Anyway, this is my feeling. Since I am not someone who feels he can rule over a particular page (as some do with certain pages on Wikipedia), I did want to discuss this with you.--Michitaro (talk) 00:04, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the prompt response. Again, I think it's great that you are inputting the awards information and I agree that the article has to mention some of the top films each each era. And you are definitely right that the narrative such films need to be inserted into does not yet exist. You (and I) are not alone in seeing that. There's discussion about that on the Cinema of Japan talk page. I myself am starting to slowly rewrite the prewar sections (when I have time--and these longer articles take more time). I think your suggestion of putting the awarded films in the Japanese cinema by year pages is a good one--those can then be used later on to insert the important films into the narrative once it gets written. Hopefully, in the end, this will all produce a better piece.--Michitaro (talk) 12:49, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 19:31, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Cattus! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot notifying you on behalf of the the unreferenced biographies team that 1 of the articles that you created is currently tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 3 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Hello. Last week, I nominated the article Akira Kurosawa as a Featured Article. It had previously been a B-class article, but after extensive revisions by me and a team of collaborators, it has improved to the point where it is now a candidate for promotion to FA.

Since you are a member of the Japanese cinema task force, I would be delighted if you would go to the Featured article candidates page and check out the article, and perhaps provide your personal input about it. Thanks.

Hiya. Just checked your edits as you changed an article on my watchlist, without supplying a wp:Edit summary. Disappointed you shun ESs. Mind if I ask why you seem to nearly always shun them? Reply here, if you care, & I'll respond. Trafford09 (talk) 16:59, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No reason, I guess just to save time. I will usualy do an edit summary if I'm making significant changes to an article but if it's just small edits I won't bother.--Cattus talk 17:27, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. So, you use ESs just to explain some edits, but that doesn't help people whose watchlists you affect, does it?

They still have to open and check your edit, whereas if you supplied an ES - no matter how brief - they would guess it's kosher, so they can leave it unchecked.

And after all, consensus is to wp:ES#Always_provide_an_edit_summary.

I see that the 'old you' used to supply ESs. Trafford09 (talk) 17:39, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Friends: Naki on Monster Island has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No assertion of notability. Fails WP:NFILM

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
