RfA
Hi Cassiopeia. I've been considering throwing my hat in the ring for adminship... I even left an entry at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Optional RfA candidate poll to evaluate my chances. I've also been looking through past RfA noms, and saw your name. I've seen your contributions in multiple area, so I was surprised that you withdrew your nomination. I didn't look through it extensively, but I was disappointed to see a lot of criticism that I believe was unnecessarily harsh.
I know and appreciate that candidates have to be properly vetted, and need to have a good grasp of multiple policies. I think I have a decent handle on the important ones, but I'll be the first to admit I don't understand all of them thoroughly and every nuance in their application. I've made errors in the past and hopefully I've become a better editor because of them.
From your RfA experience, would my entire edit history be picked apart and criticized for every mistake, large or small? I'm not sure that I want to face the firing squad if that's my probable fate. Thanks for your insight. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 13:55, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- Drm310 Thank you for the message above. I dont remember we have crossed paths before. I dont vote RfA often and for those I have seen, some candidates went thought them smoothly and other don't. It is all depends on your past edits (understating the guidelines and your behavior) and editors who comments on your edits and your answers of the questions. Some comments could be very encouraging but some are extremely harsh. Some candidates felt their experiences of their RfAs was the more stressful than any interviews they had been but others found went through tehm comfortably. One thing for sure is that during the first 10 years of RfA, the RfAs were a lot easier but now RfAs are a lot harder and feel more stressful. Mine was unfortunate, I made a comment 'talking to you like talking to a child", which was my mistake of not being polite, instead of dealing with issue I commented on the editor, even thought I had been provoked by the involved editor who had commented with the word "Fxxk" and shirting around the issues and didnt really answer or dealt issues many times prior. I made the edit when I was new to Wikipedia and after more than 100k edits and years later, my comment was brought up in the RfA. One thing to note: after the 5/6 initial questions and when the editors stated to vote, you can NOT make further comment even if some editors/admins misunderstand or claim faultily of certain issues/guidelines and that is the hard part. From the comments of Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Optional RfA candidate poll, the admins scored you well. Go for it and wish you all the best. Stay safe. Cassiopeia(talk) 08:27, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks so much, I appreciate your sharing your experience with me. I'm not sure if I'm ready quite yet... it seems my content creation tally is on the low side. But perhaps in the near future, I will take the plunge. All the best and stay safe! --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 20:49, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

Hello. It appears that you inadvertently restored some vandalism in here: Special:Diff/1020809364. It has now been removed. Dr. Swag Lord (talk) 04:55, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
- Dr.Swag Lord, Ph.d Thank you for the message. I had notice prior you message and have appologies to the editor - see here]. Once again, thank you for let me know. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia(talk) 05:00, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
Paulo Costa Edit
I removed the entry on the Costa page because it didn't seem relevant for inclusion. The section is about Costa's career, not Adesanya's. There aren't digressions about his opponents prior to that, so why should this statement be included? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.37.84.49 (talk) 14:51, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- 152.37.84.49 Good day. Your edit was reverted because you delete sourced content without explanation - see here which I have explained to you. If want to remov the content again then pls state a brief explanation on the "edit summary" field before saving/publish your edit. Hey Cassiopeia, I'm letting you know I reported the user above over at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, just so you know, and thanks for your assistance as always. PabloLikesToWrestle (talk) 16:45, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- PabloLikesToWrestle Thank you for letting me know. Cassiopeia(talk) 06:59, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- Sure, I don't know why it wasn't reviewed though, it's the only section that was left unresolved in the whole article :/ PabloLikesToWrestle (talk) 16:26, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
- PabloLikesToWrestle There are a lot of ANI, and sometimes it takes awhile before anyone comment/action and sometimes, no action is taken. You can ask an uninvolved admin to look at it. Admin Materialscientist who work on WP:AIV is currently online, you can ask if they would help. Cassiopeia(talk) 16:36, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

Request for training for the CVUA
I would like to be trained for the CVUA. I am heavily interested, and agree with the goals. I already remove vandalism, but I would like to learn more about it.

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- Twinkle is a gadget on English Wikipedia. It can help with maintenance and patrolling. It can now be used on other wikis. You can get Twinkle on your wiki using the twinkle-starter GitHub repository.
Problems
- The content translation tool did not work for many articles for a little while. This was because of a bug. [1]
- Some things will not work for about a minute on 5 May. This will happen around 06:00 UTC. This will affect the content translation tool and notifications among other things. This is because of an upgrade to avoid crashes. [2]
Changes later this week
- Reference Previews will become a default feature on a number of wikis on 5 May. This is later than planned because of some changes. You can use it without using Page Previews if you want to. The earlier plan was to have the preference to use both or none. [3][4]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 4 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 5 May. It will be on all wikis from 6 May (calendar).
Future changes
- The CSS classes
.error
,.warning
and.success
do not work for mobile readers if they have not been specifically defined on your wiki. From June they will not work for desktop readers. This can affect gadgets and templates. The classes can be defined in MediaWiki:Common.css or template styles instead. [5]

Question
Hey,
So I have been granted new page reviewer and Articles for Creation reviewer priviledges, so I am just curious if I create an article and publish it, can I then review it with the page triage? I created Janay Harding but I don't see the option to review it, is that only for pages that I don't create?
HeinzMaster (talk) 01:51, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
- HeinzMaster Both the new page and AfC user right is for the editor who holds the right to review other editors' articles who they created either via new page or AfC. If a new page or AfC user create an article via AfC, just like other confirmed editors, they can move it to new page; however, they can not review their own articles. I have review Harding page. Recent changes
- There is a new toolbar in the Reply tool. It works in the wikitext source mode. You can enable it in your preferences. [6] [7] [8]
- Wikimedia mailing lists are being moved to Mailman 3. This is a newer version. For the character encoding to work it will change from
UTF-8
toutf8mb3
. [9][10] - An earlier issue of Tech News said that the citoid API would handle dates with a month but no days in a new way. This has been reverted for now. There needs to be more discussion of how it affects different wikis first. [11]
Changes later this week
-
MediaWiki:Pageimages-blacklist
will be renamedMediaWiki:Pageimages-denylist
. The list can be copied to the new name. It will happen on 19 May for some wikis and 20 May for some wikis. Most wikis don't use it. It lists images that should never be used as thumbnails for articles. [12] - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 18 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 19 May. It will be on all wikis from 20 May (calendar).
