Block
[edit]Hello. I have blocked editing from this account for Disruption on HTC Wizard. Basically we have resumed edit warring after the protection has expired. Please use the talk page for content disputes rather than reverting each others changes. To contest this block use the {{unblock|your reason here}} template on this page. Regards, Navou banter 04:04, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
{{tl:unblock|Despite several attempts at discussion in the talk page, the other user refuses to participate. Ironically, the anonymous user claims that any revert of his edits should be discussed, however he never participates. The only alternative I have is to revert the edit because this has already been discussed several times and there is a consensus among the other wikipedians that this shouldn't be there. I really want to discuss this, and have done so, but I can't help that the other user refuses to participate. }}

Regarding Third Opinions
[edit]Hi. Wikipedia:Third opinion is probably not the proper avenue for revolving your dispute with 122.160.82.88 regarding HTC Wizard, since more than two editors seem to be involved already and since the primary problem is that one of the involved editors is refusing to discuss the situation. As the page indicates, third opinion "requires good faith and civility on both sides of the dispute", and unfortunately you don't seem to have that. :/ I have left a message for the user at User talk:122.160.82.88 advising of our policies on Wikipedia:consensus and tendentious editing and requesting that he or she discuss these changes on the talk page before implementing them. If he persists without an effort to establish consensus, you may wish to follow the recommended steps at disruptive editing by considering Wikipedia:Wikiquette alerts or Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User conduct. (The requisite steps to follow prior to pursuing that are listed here.) Good luck with resolving this. --Moonriddengirl 15:50, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Help on Windows Mobile needed ...
[edit]Dear Brian, we have some discussions with one wiki moderator and need help from independent Windows Mobile expert. May I ask you one question - what are popular Windows Mobile websites that you know? Thank you, Victor —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shab victor (talk • contribs) 18:12, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- If we're talking about appropriate External links to include, we should look at Wikipedia's guidelines on external links sections. From these guidelines, we know that External links should be kept to a minimum. Thus, just because a site is popular, doesn't mean it should necessarily be included. Where is this discussion taking place? Which links are in question? Thanks! Brianreading 21:10, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:UH Fight Song.ogg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:UH Fight Song.ogg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. RE: WikiProject University of Houston
[edit]Sure, I would be interested in participating. I think the most important thing is to define the scope of this project. Do we want a project for the University of Houston or the University of Houston System. If we decide on just University of Houston, then the project should clearly define that and guidelines should be set to state that other articles related to UH–Clear Lake, UH–Downtown, or UH–Victoria are not part of the scope. I prefer a project just for the University of Houston, but also see that this will be problematic as other editors will argue that three other UH System institutions should be part of the project as well since they bear "University of Houston" in their name.
I guess before moving forward, we need to decide what to call the project in accordance with the scope:
I think you should post on the talk pages of Houston and Texas so other editors will be aware of this proposed project.
I read your userpage and noticed that you went to Clements HS! I went and graduated from there as well.
—RJN 18:06, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
- I'd prefer a University of Houston only project also, but I certainly see your point! However, I'd honestly think it'd be a better idea to deal with those cases of editors trying to include the rest of the UH System in the scope on an individual basis. My reasoning for this stems from the fact that I don't believe we'll get a lot of these editors often because the other UH System school articles are seldom edited. So, with your willingness to join a UH project, I will get started on creating one. However, I will heed your advice and post on the talk pages for UH, Houston, and Texas. This will allow for more exposure of this project to those who would be interested but otherwise wouldn't know.
- Clements was surely a great high school to graduate from. I'm proud to have my diploma from there.
- —Brianreading 19:26, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sounds great! My only concern is that someone will start tagging all UH System articles with the WikiProject University of Houston template. I wouldn't want to get into an edit war over this by removing them and having to explain that other three UH System institutions are not branch/extension campuses of UH.
- When did you graduated from CHS? I graduated in 2002 from CHS and 12/2006 from UH. —RJN 21:26, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
- I guess somewhere on the project page, we'll have to include a little tidbit about the scope for the project. That way, we can always refer back to something that existed before the editor started making changes. It's part of good WikiProject etiquette after all to have a well-defined scope.
- Anyway, yeah. I gradated from Clements in 2003, so it looks like you were a year ahead of me. I'm planning on graduating from UH around late '08 or mid '09. —Brianreading 21:42, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Hi Brian, Thanks for the invitation to join the UH project. At this time I'm not sure I can put a lot of energy into this effort, but I will definitly watch the project page and may jump in to a few articles I spot needing work. Thank you for organizing this and putting time into the UH articles. I used to watch the UH pages closely but was turned off a bit when someone came through and nominated every image for deletion. I'll try to get interested again. --Rgb9000 16:39, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I don't know how much more "sources" you need for alumni like Devin Brown whos jersey is hanging in the convo, how much more do you need for something like that?
- Someone running across a Wikipedia article doesn't know things like that. Putting things up that are contentious based on personal experience constitutes as original research. If these alumni are in fact from UTSA, it should be simple to find that written in an independent source somewhere. Luckily, another user has done this for you, and it has made the article much more credible now. By the way, I'm a UTSA alum too, so I'm not just picking on UTSA. Houston Cougars Football
[edit]Excellent work! You requested an updated assessment, and I'm happy to give it. The highest rating I can offer without a formal review process is a B-class assessment, but I'd strongly suggest adding more in-line citations and submitting this for GA review. It's very good in the prose department, as best as I can tell from a quick look. If you can add those in-line citations, there's absolutely no reason this article couldn't reach good status. Great work! JKBrooks85 (talk) 11:09, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your kind words. Adding in-line citations has been something I've wanted to do more of. It can be difficult finding sources for the early years of the team, if you know of any, feel free to add. Thanks again. Brianreading (talk) 16:01, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- With older items, off-line sources are usually your best bet. If there's a book or two detailing the history of the Cougars, that'd be the best way to go. Just throw the bibliographic citation at the bottom, then use a "Miller, p. 37"-type cite in-line. I've also found that academic databases have been a big help as well, particularly ones like NewsBank; those generally cover from the mid-1980s to the present day, though I'd suggest using clickable online cites for more current items. Good luck with it. JKBrooks85 (talk) 20:09, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- As per other 2008-09 bowl game entries, the full name of the school (such as the University of Houston Cougars) is standardized in all stories such as the 2008 Armed Forces Bowl. After all, they are college football games. In the future, if you wish to avoid editing wars, may i suggest you take it up with moderators. thank you. NoseNuggets (talk) 5:48 AM US EST Dec 26 2008.

Image copyright problem with Image:Yahoo Messenger for Mac.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Yahoo Messenger for Mac.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

2008-09 Houston Cougars men's basketball team
[edit]Brian, you may want to consider redirecting 2008-09 Houston Cougars men's basketball team to 2008–09 Houston Cougars men's basketball team. For example, if you take a look at Template:NBA seasons or "Category:National Basketball Association season by team templates," you will see that each NBA season (and individual team seasons) all now use the long dash opposed to a short dash. I realize that most of the college teams are using the short dash for 2008-09, but there are also a handful using the long dash (e.g. 2008–09 IUPUI Jaguars men's basketball team, 2008–09 Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team, etc.).

windows mobile standard software
[edit]hi, you added this "windows mobile standard software" as a new cat to several watched articles of mine. I removed the deepfish tagged page, but then i noticed there are more pages tagged... what do you mean with STANDARD? standard is (in my opinion) pre-installed software. or what is this cat? This seemed to be a bad cat name... what ever... mabdul 0=* 14:24, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Windows Media Player 10 Mobile.png
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Windows Media Player 10 Mobile.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fleet Command (talk) 05:54, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Appstore?
[edit]Hey the other day you told be about using the logos from the appstore for iphone games. How do you get into sections of the store, im thinking that i need to install itunes but i aint going to do that. Am i doing something wrong here??? Main reasons im asking is because i was going to upload the infobox image for the game Metal Gear Solid Touch, but couldnt get the games page on the appstore. Thanks if you can help. Salavat (talk) 15:42, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- There is no hard and fast way to get the image. It is possible to retrieve a 512x512px '.png' icon from a game '.ipa' file by renaming it a '.zip' file, and then unzipping it. However, the icon that is retrieved this way does not have the rounded corners, nor the gloss given to icons on the App Store. The reason why is that this is all done on the fly by both the iPhone OS and the App Store/iTunes.
- It is possible to manually add these effects to the icon, but just doing the smoothing on the corners is easiest. Basically, what I've done is, in iTunes snap a screenshot of the icon, by clicking the album art in the left side bar, and bringing up a larger view. Right-click the large image, and make sure it says "Actual Size" before taking the screenshot. Next, I import this image with a photo editor like Photoshop into a blank document with a transparent background, and crop the image to just the icon. I then use the smooth selection tool to get the make the rounded corners. You need a radius of 89px.
- If you can find a game icon with transparent background out there on the web to use, it would be even easier. However, this is rare to find.
- It was once possible to browse the App Store from third-party websites that had set up the ability to see that content, but I don't know if they're around anymore, and what their names are. Why so adamant about not installing iTunes? It doesn't contain any spyware or add-ons, nor does it interfere with Windows Media Player or whatever media player you use. Apple's software, in my opinion is some of the cleanest out there for Windows.
- --Brianreading (talk) 17:16, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply, i might consider downloading it sometime, its just the 70mb is a bit much for a program i would never use. Thanks again. Salavat (talk) 14:48, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
James Coney Island: First Houston Hot Dog Vendor?
[edit]You wrote "The original James Coney Island restaurant was the first major hot dog vendor in Houston." However, I can't find this in any of the sources cited, so I tagged it {{fact}}. Have I missed it? Thanks.—C45207 | Talk 07:43, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- Check the source for the sentence previously before it. The article from the Chronicle claims that "the hot dog hit the big time here [in Houston] in 1923, when brothers James and Tom Papadakis opened James Coney Island on downtown's Rusk Street." I took that to mean that it was the first major hot dog vendor in Houston. Brianreading (talk) 07:46, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, I'm wondering why you reverted my edit to the David Dewhurstarticle, it said he was in office "2003-present". I believe that we are both veteran Wikipedians, who know that an an elected official currently in office should not have anything written next to the "term end" space in the info box. --71.235.32.22 (talk) 20:45, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hello there! I'm not aware of any such format described in the template documentation. Can you refer me to this? The combination of a blank edit summary (especially from an anonymous user) and absent documentation on the matter made me think your edit was vandalism. That's why it was reverted. On a side note, upon examining your address, it appears that you've only made a total of 75 edits to Wikipedia all within a 6 month time span. Do you have a dynamic IP address or a registered account with Wikipedia? Not that it really matters, but it just appeared odd. Brian Reading (talk) 21:10, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- If you were to look at other elected official articles, you will see what I mean. I previously had an account, user:bobsmith319. I recently registered to a new account, user:matt319 because I purposely changed my password without looking out of a fit of frustration with another user.
- Sorry, but other articles aren't a definitive standard for how to format an article. It's the agreed upon documentation that is available which dictates that. If Wikipedia were to go by the former standard, then most articles would follow a terrible format as most of Wikipedia is stubs, etc. Basically, I don't follow your logic. - I'm going to copy this conversation to the article talk page, so we can continue there. Brian Reading (talk) 00:44, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for you message. I have actually done a study on this organization for school and wanted to post more information on it for others. I think it's an interesting organization, especially since it's based in Texas and concerns Human Rights. I don't have an relations to the organization other than the research I did on it for school. - I'm glad you are open to help here on Wikipedia. After all, this is a community project. As someone who has been here a little while, I recommend that one of the first things you do with your article is cite reliable sources to establish notability. These are two of the most important concepts here, and most administrators will look for this when they decide an article should be deleted or not. Check out this section of the style guide to determine how to properly cite your sources in the article. As far as you having no connection to the organization, that is actually a very good thing here, as Wikipedia takes conflict of interest concerns seriously. Let me know if you have anymore questions. I'm here to help. Brian Reading (talk) 21:21, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
Anthony Ausgang
[edit]Brianreading,
Thank you for your comment "Delete. Huge COI, fails WP:BIO. Brian Reading (talk) 22:25, 13 July 2009 (UTC" in regards to the entry for Anthony Ausgang. In defense of "conflict of interest" I would just like to say that there was an entry for Anthony Ausgang for several years and it was removed at the beginning of this month for lack of references and copyright violations. That first entry was posted by an unknown agent, and not an employee Anthony Ausgang's or by the artist himself. The new entry has fixed these errors with the help of Anthony Ausgang. There is no hype involved in this entry and Wikipedia is not being used for self promotion. As you can see from the partial bibliography there is public interest in this artist and this is not a vanity entry. Thank you. Ausganger (talk) 07:11, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- I understand, but it was also deleted for a reason, and it's still a conflict of interest. Also, are you speaking in third-person? Brian Reading (talk) 19:20, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Pigeon Poo
[edit]Hi Brianreading, why do you think the article for Pigeon Poo should be deleted? The game is available on the AppStore and has an official page on the software house' website. Thanks in advance for your answer. Billx (talk) 07:08, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- Those two aspects don't qualify it for notability. If it's not verifiable through many reliable sources, then it just doesn't belong on Wikipedia. Thanks. Brian Reading (talk) 19:25, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Windows Mobile 6.5 Article
[edit]I was Reading you comments on the rolback history of WinMo6.5, while i agree with your rollback to the 6.1 home screen i wanted to clear some things up. Winmo 6.5 has reached the RTM phase, however there are two phases labeled as RTM in the windows world. Release To Manufacturers and release to Market. Right Now as it stands WinMo is only in the release to manufactures stage, it is expected to be released in September. I felt i should notify you of this image's status since i am the creator of the screenshot, and it seams as though you are the controlling user the windows mobile article. and no that screenshot dose not contain any major customizations what you see in that image is what will come out in September. Thank you for your time --Koman90 (talk) 01:16, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking the time to leave me this message. I do not control the article any more than any other users, but I've also been discussing the changes in the talk page. My main reasoning for supporting the 6.1 screenshot is that the 6.5 screenshot should contain no customizations. This is to keep the clarity of the topic as much as possible. Please weigh in on the discussion on the talk page if you haven't already. Thanks again. Brian Reading (talk) 14:52, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Copyright
[edit]I suggest you go to law school before you start to dispense copyright legal advice. Since I don't know what the source material you believe is copyrighted, I can't determine whether the source was copyrighted. Next, you must determine who is the copyright holder and the relationship with the person posting to wikipedia. Assuming the source is copyrighted and its author is not posting to wikipedia, you must next perform an analysis to determine whether the use is a "fair use" allowed by the copyright laws. Since you claim that two different literary expressions are both copyrighted, I suspect that you are mistakenly assuming that copyright protects underlying facts — instead of just the literary expression of those facts or ideas. I suggest that the next time you find a passage that you feel is a copyright violation, you rephrase it. I also suggest that you review WP:OWN Racepacket (talk) 16:33, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, but ripping word for word text from a news article for that purpose is a copyright violation whether you like it or not. It wasn't even very good information, as it even simply repeated some of the same facts. I needn't attend law school to understand how copyright policies apply here at Wikipedia, and I recommend that you remain civil. I don't care to own articles, and if I did, I wouldn't be contributing to Wikipedia. I support the goal of the project, hence why I care about enforcing its policies, including those regarding copyrights. Brian Reading (talk) 07:14, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- Facts are not copyrighted, literary expression is copyrighted. Therefore of the two versions, one would not be a copyright infringement, by definition. Racepacket (talk) 19:59, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- I'll discontinue this conversation now. The text has been reworded enough for a common ground. In the future I recommend that you work with the community, or if you have some sort of insight, add it to the WP:Copyrights page. Brian Reading (talk) 02:15, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestions. Again, perhaps it is time for you to do some soul-searching on the WP:OWN front. Racepacket (talk) 15:05, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- What makes you think I claim ownership of the articles I contribute to? I'd do the same regarding copyright violations on any article I see on Wikipedia. Honestly, if I really felt like I should be the sole controller of content for an article, I wouldn't be writing it on Wikipedia. I have a bit more common sense than that. Again, I understand the goals of the project. Honestly, I think it's you who will need to get a better grasp of community skills, particularly WP:CIVIL. If a copyright violation arises, one that is certainly not cut and dry, you'll need to explain your reasoning for adding this back to the article. Copyright violations are to be handled seriously in this project. Brian Reading (talk) 17:58, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- To answer your question, WP:OWN address emotional ownership of articles and states, "If this watchfulness starts to become possessiveness, then you may be overdoing it." I am sorry if I came across in any way as uncivil, but repeated deletion of different literary expressions as each being a copyright violation is not civil either. By the way, my source was another wiki, not the New York Times. Racepacket (talk) 22:31, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Again, I would take the same action regardless of who wrote the content here. I've even done so in the past. Copyright violations certainly deserve to be repeatedly removed. Removing that which is disallowed on Wikipedia is not typically seen as uncivil behavior no matter how many times it is done. Adding such disallowed material back without explanation usually is. So, I'm still not following the logic you're using to claim that I'm being overprotective of the article. Also, Wikis are generally not reliable sources as per WP:SPS. That text was specifically a word for word rip from the New York Times. Brian Reading (talk) 03:06, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- Why did you feel that the subsequent, different versions were word for word? 08:47, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- I honestly don't know what you're talking about. When reposted, it appeared to be the same wording. Brian Reading (talk) 09:09, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- They were different, hence my Aug 3 and 10 comments to you posted above. I have never argued that the material could not be copyrighted because it is factual, I have argued that given different literary expressions of the facts, at least one was not a copyright infringement. But I could not tell because you didn't identify what the alleged copyrighted material was. Racepacket (talk) 12:43, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- Again, it was clear if the lone source was actually read. Honestly, I'm tired of discussing this issue. We've come to a conclusion as far as editing goes. Let's just leave it at that, because we're running in circles. Brian Reading (talk) 02:08, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Mobile IE
[edit]Is there really any serious debate that Mobile IE is remotely comparable to Safari mobile? What source would be acceptable to show this? Eraserhead1 (talk) 20:58, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- If by comparable, you mean there is an encyclopedic reasoning behind comparing the two web browsers, then maybe. However, I don't believe this conversation is altogether appropriate on Wikipedia in the Internet Explorer Mobile or Safari articles, as it is off -topic. That is, there is nothing that makes the two worthwhile to be arbitrarily compared when there are many mobile web browsers out there. I believe it would be much more appropriate to include comparisons in an article such as Comparison of web browsers instead. Reviewer opinions are unnecessary at that point. It allows for much less POV. Brian Reading (talk) 22:49, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- My point in the article wasn't just comparing IE mobile with Safari, it also applies to all the other Webkit based browsers as well as Opera mobile - which together make up most of IE's competition on the mobile platforms. Eraserhead1 (talk) 18:48, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
- To add, comparing IE mobile to all of its competition seems worthy for the article Eraserhead1 (talk) 18:54, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
- I agree that it may be worthy to compare, but think about what it turns into. Making a generalized statement comparing IE Mobile to the majority of its competition (Webkit-based or not) takes some POV because it obscures objective facts. This is what reviewers do, but it's not what encyclopedia editors do. It doesn't tell the whole story, and if it did, it would end up being disproportional to the article's main topic. Hence the necessity for a separate article. I think if the information is relevant, but not altogether appropriate, it should be placed in a "See also" section. What's wrong with putting a link to Comparison of web browsers, and let the information be presented in a full, objective manner? Brian Reading (talk) 19:39, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to 2006 Houston Cougars football team, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 07:22, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
- Seriously? You're giving me this automated-style comment within four minutes of me posting content. Are you a bot? Did you really look at my contributions, and think this was appropriate? Give me a break, I was in the process of adding the references when I got this message. I urge you to patrol new page creation from the bottom, rather than the top next time. Thanks. Your actions regarding my edits and others' edits on University of Houston related articles
[edit]You could have shown some courtesy by notifying me when you tagged File:Renu Khator.jpg for speedy deletion due to "copyright violation." The source to the photo contained the following: "These photographs of University of Houston System Chancellor and UH President Renu Khator are approved for public use. We request that the credit line 'Photo Courtesy of UH' be included, if possible." I did not engage in "copyright violation" per the website's message as you claimed in your tagging. You also did not show any courtesy by commenting in the edit summary instead of leaving me a message of the situation. You cannot expect people to "watch" or "patrol" every article they edit or every image they upload. I no longer engage in major editing projects on Wikipedia, and I do not care or have time to "watch" or "patrol" pages.
Instead of accusing the upload as a "copyright violation" regarding the image, you could have engaged in a dialogue with me and/or apply the correct copyright tagging with fair use rationale. The image in question is available for publicity use and it qualifies for fair use instead of requesting it for speedy deletion.
I do not care if the image is deleted even though it qualifies for fair use. I just wanted UH related articles to look good, and I know you would want the same. Moving forward, I would hope that you engage in a dialogue with me or any other editor first if/when you have concerns about the subject in question prior to taking actions on your own by accusing of "copyright violation" or marking it for "speedy deletion."
I have dismissed many of your past actions regarding my edits and others' edits on University of Houston and UHS related articles, but I will no longer tolerate that going forward. You have reverted a lot of my edits and others edits just because you disagree or do not like it for whatever reason. When you revert my edits, you make them look like they were malicious/vandalism by having the following in edit summaries: "Undid revision XXXXXXX by RJN..." In the future, please engage in a dialogue with me or any other editor when the edits are clearly not vandalism instead of leaving your comments in the edit summary. In addition, please refrain from making condescending and superiority comments/remarks in edit summaries when reverting non-vandalism edits. The dialogue or discussion of disagreements can be at the subject in question's talk page or the editor's talk page, instead of comments/remarks in the edit summary.
You have made significant contributions to UH and UHS related articles, and those contributions are much appreciated. However, this does not mean you own these pages and act condescending toward other editors. Your behaviors and reverts on UH and UHS related articles seem to imply that you take ownership of these articles by preventing others from editing.
—RJN (talk) 00:19, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
- I apologize if I gave the impression of being discourteous. I meant to actually give you some notification, but it slipped my mind. However, the image is not in public domain, and while I understand your argument of fair use, I don't think it's possible for us to use photographs of living persons under fair use with the current terms of Wikipedia's copyright policy because a free equivalent is possible, albeit difficult to obtain. I checked with the university's public relations department to clear this up, and can provide evidence of such from them if it's helpful. I would like to note that I definitely value your work here on Wikipedia, as you are one of the only other major contributors to University of Houston-related articles.
- I also do not intend for my reversions of your content to be considered attempts at reverting vandalism, as I know you are not a vandal. I am simply following my interpretation of Wikipedia's workflow in that performing an undo is a standard practice regardless of intent by the author. This is my purpose for adding comments besides the default ones with each edit summary. I don't mean to imply ownership of these articles. I do understand that they are just as much yours and mine, as anyone else's.
- Again, I apologize for any misunderstandings, and remain willing to discuss any edits in the future.
WIkiProject iPhone OS
[edit]Hello Brianreading,
There hasn't been much activity at WikiProject iPhone OS lately, and I saw your name on the list of active participants. If you are willing to jump in again, please consider helping to revive the project!
- Put {{WikiProject iPhone OS}} on the talk pages of articles involving iPhone OS. This helps to categorize articles!
- Write, cleanup, or expand an article about iPhone OS
- Source a Biography of a living person living in, born in, or otherwise affiliated with iPhone OS
- Help spread the word about the project
- Update the project page or the portal
- Watchlist or check the project talk page for updates
If you know anyone who might be interested in iPhone OS, please pass this message along to them! If you are still interested in the project but aren't currently active, please add yourself to the list of inactive participants at the bottom of this list. Thanks!
On behalf of the project, iBen 21:32, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
- Hello there. If you'll scroll up, and read my discussions, I was actually one of the first to propose the project. I do consider myself an active participant of the WikiProject, and will tag all articles I can, starting now. I really do think we need a more defined system to determine importance-level to the platform though. If you see my user page, you can see the contributions I've made to iPhone OS-related articles. I will make sure to communicate this better on the project page. Thanks for your interest! Brian Reading (talk) 23:19, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
- Update: I've since overhauled the importance scale for the WikiProject. Brian Reading (talk) 01:27, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. iBen 23:47, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, please don't spam my talk page with this. I've been here for five years, and it's obvious that I know this information. I purposely did not sign the talkback template that I used on your talk page because it is already inherently signed in the text. Thanks. Brian Reading (talk) 04:40, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

UH System and UHCLC
[edit]I just uncovered a long-standing misinterpretation regarding the history of the UH System. UHCLC was established by the Texas Legislature in 1971 as a "separate and distinct"[1] degree-granting institution since its creation.[2] So when the UH System was established in 1977, it had two freestanding universities: UH and UHCLC. Only Downtown College and Victoria Center were branch campuses of UH. I have made appropriate changes at respective articles and removed the UH System timeline image that I had uploaded. Hopefully, I can create another one similar since I don't have access to Visio anymore. Anyway, I just thought you'd want to know. —RJN (talk) 13:36, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
- Wow, I can't believe we missed that after all this time! Thanks for clearing that up! Brian Reading (talk) 16:01, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
UHD
[edit]Brian, I don't think the UHD article needs that name change section anymore. This section has become a soapbox recently with deflamatory edits against UH. I don't know if you are aware, but there has been a lot of deflamatory remarks against UH from the UHD community lately. See this,[3] and read everything on the right side of the pane. —RJN (talk) 04:49, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah. I think it may be appropriate to mention that there is an on-going name change measure from the university, but it's almost like a news story on there even after all the POV is taken out. I would support any edit to trim-down, and incorporate the basics of that info into the history section of that article just on the basis of WP:INDISCRIMINATE (See #4.) You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs (talk) 14:20, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Reason for Undoing Editing on Tapulous
[edit]Hi, Brian. I believe the opinions of Tapulous' CEO are pertinent to the company's profile and could prove very useful to educate professionals who seek employment at Tapulous about the CEO's basic requirements for job applicants. The information in that section is solely factual and accurate to the audio recording of the CEO's own words. What's your objection to adding that section? Would you care to explain why you felt it was necessary to delete it? Thanks. 98.195.130.55 (talk) 03:36, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
- Simply because the information is factual or accurate, does not merit inclusion. Every little tidbit a CEO says is not worthy of being added to an encyclopedia article. Sorry to say, but I honestly can't see the significance it makes to understanding the underlying subject matter of the article. Remember, Wikipedia's role is not to be an employment guide. Brian Reading (talk) 06:00, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
- Brian, I am disconcerted by your disregard of the Wikipedia policies regarding the deletion of content, especially when the information added clearly doesn't violate any of the policies and guidelines. Moreover, that company functions in a country where there is a culture of protecting its people from being discriminated against based on their age, race, national origin, religion, health, and so on. The bias of Tapulous' CEO can be perceived as controversial under that light and that is NOT a bit of information that should be considered irrelevant by any means. I would appreciate if you would take some extra time to ponder on this issue before deleting the section again. I urge you to abide by the policies of this community before deleting additions made by other editors—especially when those are verifiable and accurate and of importance to others—without finding consensus or a majority through the talk pages first. If you insist in doing otherwise, I'll be compelled to question your true motivation and I'll request you to disclose any relationship that you may have with that company or any of their staff, to establish that there are no conflict of interest from your part. Thanks for understanding. 98.195.130.55 (talk) 22:08, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
- Brian, you have deleted that section again. This time, according to your reasoning, all mentions to Bart Decrem as head of Tapulous should then be omitted from the article. Your arguments simply don't make sense. I understand that, as a computer developer, you may have ties with the company and that clearly would be a conflict of interest that could be motivating you. Please, stop editing the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.195.130.55 (talk) 06:42, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
- If you're accusing me of some sort of connection to Tapulous, you're flat-out wrong. I have never had any connection with this organization, and only wish to serve the mission of Wikipedia. I do not wish to paint Tapulous in either a positive nor negative light, because that would be antithetical to the concept of Wikipedia. I should also point out that you have no authority to prohibit my editing of the article, and I will not forgo my privileges in the least. It would be advantageous for you to understand that regardless of what content you want Wikipedia to have, it is solely an encyclopedia, and all of its content must be encyclopedic. It is not an employment guide to help prospective employees determine where they choose to work. If Decrem also gave an interview where he noted that McDonald's was his favorite fast food restaurant, would this be relevant? Of course not! Simply because Decrem has said something does not make it encyclopedic. If you are claiming that this information is in fact encyclopedic, then you are attempting to portray a false controversy based on your point of view about the subject. Simply claiming that something can "be perceived as controversial", is your point of view, and does not merit its inclusion. You cannot paint a picture that there is a controversy about Decrem's comments unless there is a documented phenomenon of such. By "documented" I mean, reliable sources must exist that specifically note the controversy caused by Decrem's comments. You must provide these sources with your contribution. If you claim that this information still belongs despite a lack of controversy, then it is still inappropriate to include, as Wikipedia is not your soapbox for political viewpoints. You claim that my arguments "don't make sense", but fail to point out any inconsistencies in logic. As far as your claim that by my reasoning, all of Decrem's comments should not be included, I disagree. For example, Decrem's comments about a major direction of the organization would certainly be appropriate. Other appropriate subject matter for an encyclopedia article would be more information about Tapulous' acquisition by Disney or about the revenue trends of the organization, failing or otherwise. Brian Reading (talk) 09:01, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
- According to the policies you keep alluding to, you are supposed to reach consensus on a talk page such as this before deleting these additions to an article. You've been deleting that section without even trying to reach any consensus first. The controversial aspect of the CEO's comments has been explained above and possible implications could be considered of great important to investors of the company: the CEO has openly displayed his bias against hiring people of a certain age, a practice that is unpopular in the US, and that certainly qualifies as "comments about a major direction of the organization" as you've pointed out. I urge you to abide by the policies and seek consensus on the talk page before making a deletion again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.195.130.55 (talk) 02:18, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

- Not looking for whether or not he said it. You can't create a false controversy. Your sources must specifically claim a controversy was caused by the quote, otherwise you are doing original research, and feel that it is your right to push a political viewpoint on others on Wikipedia. You have to understand that any POV regarding living persons on Wikipedia is a big deal. Brian Reading (talk) 02:31, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and providing your reasons for contesting on the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
You may want to read the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. Bob A (talk) 15:11, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
Wikipedia Ambassador Program in Houston
[edit]Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you're listed as a Wikipedian from Houston. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors from the Houston area, to help with Wikipedia assignments at Texas Southern University. Classes at TSU will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester, and the role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.
Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).
If you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone in Houston who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page. Thanks!--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:12, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Brian. At this point, we don't have any professors signed on at the University of Houston for Spring 2011, but if you're interested in being a Campus Ambassador, I encourage you to apply, and help us expand the program to your university in a future term. And if you know any professors that teach public policy or closely related topics who might be interested for Spring 2011, then it might not be too late to get your university involved for the coming term. (During this pilot project, we're focusing on public policy classes, but in the future it will be open to professors in any field.) Here's the application form, which you can email along with a CV/resume to ambassadors-en@wikimedia.org if you'd like to apply.
Orphaned non-free image File:Excel Mobile.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Excel Mobile.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. University of Houston–Victoria
[edit]A bill was filed (HB2556) in the Texas Legislature to transfer the University of Houston–Victoria into the Texas A&M University System. HB2556 also calls for renaming the institution to Texas A&M University–Victoria. If passed, the effective date of transfer would be September 1, 2011. HB2556.
Let me know what you think. –RJN (talk) 00:11, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Live Search Mobile.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Live Search Mobile.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Coat of arms of the University of Houston System
[edit]Hi, Brian. I have uploaded the coat of arms of the University of Houston System as a replacement to the official seals in the infoboxes of UHS institutions. According to the UH website, the seal is reserved for academic use only by the Office of the President and the Provost's Office.[4] –RJN (talk) 07:07, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hello there! I understand where you're getting at and certainly appreciate it, but it's my understanding that this policy does not apply to the Wikipedia project, and is simply for internal use of the university. In fact most universities have the same policy with their academic seal. I do disagree with the use of this coat of arms for several additional reasons: I have never seen this coat of arms by itself in use anywhere by the university, thus I don't feel that it represents the image (at least not to the extent of its use in infoboxes) of the university. Without its accompaniment as part of the academic seal, it appears to be an unofficial image. For an encyclopedia, this would be antithetical to the spirit of the project. Moreover, the documentation of the University infobox specifically notes that the image should "preferably [be] the university's official seal or logo." Since the official seal exists and is uploaded, I feel that it more closely fits with the official documentation for the infobox. Lastly, since a large part of the project is an effort to standardize our related articles, and other university articles (especially the featured ones) use the academic seals, I think it would be best to follow that example. Would you be receptive to reverting this change back? Brian Reading (talk) 07:41, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your input, Brian. I have restored the official seals of UHS institutions in the infoboxes. –RJN (talk) 10:06, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
- I have seen the coat of arms used by itself in UH, UHCL, and UHD publications—mostly in older publications of the 70s and 80s. You can see the coat of arms used by itself on the UHS homepage at www.uhsa.uh.edu. You have to look very carefully within the middle of the gray box. Let me know if you are not able to see it. –RJN (talk) 10:06, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
- Here is an archive picture showing a signage of the Bayou Building at UH/CLC with the coat of arms used by itself.[5] –RJN (talk) 10:06, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
- That's a nice tidbit of information. I never knew this! Thanks again for your diligence in copyediting. Brian Reading (talk) 17:27, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Windows Media Center logo.png
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Windows Media Center logo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. If you are in fact someone who is interested in C-SPAN, then let me put forward an idea that I have been kicking around for a while. What if we started a C-SPAN WikiProject?
The parameters of this (potential) project are up for discussion, but it could include some or all of the following (as well as things that may occur to you that have not occurred to me):
- Creation, maintenance, and improvement of articles and lists directly related to C-SPAN and its programming.
- Use of C-SPAN programming in citations for various topics
- Inclusion of unique and targeted C-SPAN video links for various articles. (Doing this with respect for established guidelines at Wikipedia:External links.) (Example: If you are interested in the submarine USS Wyoming (SSBN-742), then having easy access to the eight hours of programming taped while a C-SPAN crew were guests on that submarine could also be of interest to you.)
- Inclusion of (and possible further creation of) templated links such as {{C-SPAN|laurabush}}, that will easily take article readers to a link of all C-SPAN Video Library links for the person about whom the article is about.
- What else?
I don't know exactly how far we may want to go, nor in what directions, but I do believe (as I have long noted on my user page) that C-SPAN and Wikipedia are both...
...fantastic vehicles for the free exchange of ideas and information in a non-sound-bite manner, and they both invite the participation of any parties (expert or amateur) who are interested in taking the time to absorb and/or contribute to the ideas and information offered. C-SPAN and Wikipedia go together like peanut butter and jelly, and I want to help give other Wiki users easy access to the great work that C-SPAN has done on a variety of topics.
Now, I should mention that I have never started a WikiProject before, and I do not know the best way to go about it. (Perhaps one of you do?) Let me offer one of my sandbox pages, User:KConWiki/sandbox/Wikiproject C-SPAN?, as a gathering area for comments until such time as we gather enough steam to start our own WikiProject page.
Thanks for reading this far, and I hope that you will give some consideration as to whether this is something we ought to attempt. Please feel free to pass this message on to others you know whom might be interested, and please let me know your thoughts and comments.

A discussion you might be interested in
[edit]Here, with regards to the last few edits made to Todd Whitting. –Kithira (talk) 16:40, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up. I posted a response in that discussion. Brian Reading (talk) 20:34, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
About your revert of my revert. That may be considered edit warring as you still have not attempted to address the change through discussion WP:BRD. The change you made by adding the word "Minor" the header is a point of view not established by section itself. Could you explain why you feel that is accurate?--Mark 19:27, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- Not sure what you mean by "not attempted to address the change", as I have added expanded reasoning in my edit summaries. That type of discussion is typically considered sufficient until it is clear that further discussion is needed. However, to further explain, the section renaming does not change the content of the section, but simply clarifies the content that is already existing. The section consists almost entirely of minor political parties that are affiliated with the Christian Right. Are we in agreement on this? If this were meant to be an all-inclusive section, then what is the reasoning for not including the Republican Party of the United States? It is one of the most prominent examples in western politics. Brian Reading (talk) 07:24, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- I won't revert that as long as it holds but would support a more neutral heading if a discussion began.--Mark 07:36, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'm certainly open to discussion about a neutral section name as well if someone could explain why it is specifically non-neutral and how it could be remedied. If you wanted to initiate that discussion on the article talk page, just let me know, and I'll weigh in there. Thanks for being civil with me. Cheers. Brian Reading (talk) 07:42, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- I won't revert it or challenge it. I'm not a regular there and if the main contributing editors have no issues with it, then it should stand.--Mark 07:50, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

- Of course! I am a bit of a stub starter, which annoys some contributors, but your expansion of the article is exactly why I plant those seeds. Thanks again. Have you written any particularly interesting or high-quality Houston-related articles that I should read? Feel free to contact me if you ever wish to tag-team a Houston article and promote it to Good status. --Another Believer (Talk) 17:16, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
- Something is always better than nothing. Stubs don't bother me at all. Recently, I've been contributing a lot to the Houston Buffaloes article and Houston Football Stadium article. In the past, I've contributed a lot to University of Houston and University of Houston System and related articles. I'll keep that in mind regarding tag teaming. I plan to expand the Union Station article further as well, but probably not to the extent of getting it promoted to good article status. Cheers! Brian Reading (talk) 00:55, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

Hey, I thought you might be interested in helping to expand these two articles: Grand Texas Sports and Entertainment District and Grand Texas Theme Park. I realize it might seem a bit premature to have the theme park article forked off the parent district article, but I predict the district article will become large very quickly due to so many venues and the theme park should have enough info to stand alone. --Another Believer (Talk) 01:32, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for creating James Collinsworth. There may be two issues: was he named Collingsworth or Collinsworth? He may have dropped the g later in life. Also, I found on Newspapers.com that his father was Edward, a veteran of the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, and that his brother-in-law was Mark R. Cockrill, but the Handbook of Texas Online says his father's name was Edmund... Any thoughts please?Zigzig20s (talk) 20:34, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:15, 27 July 2018 (UTC)

The file File:Class of Nuke Em High OST album cover.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Non-free album cover being used in a decorative manner in Class of Nuke 'Em High#Music. Non-free album cover art is generally allowed to be used for primary identification purposes in stand-alone articles about albums, but its use in other articles is generally only allowed when the cover art itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3 and the context for non-free use required by WP:NFCC#8 is evident. There is no such commentary for this particular album cover anywhere in the article, and the use of soundtrack album cover art in articles about films or TV programs is generally not allowed for this reason as explained in WP:FILMSCORE.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. 2019 US Banknote Contest
[edit]US Banknote Contest | ||
---|---|---|
November-December 2019 | ||
There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate. If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here |

[edit]RESF
[edit]Hi, I've already made an article on the subject, but I can't move it to the right namespace, would you do it?
Regarding this: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Rocky_Linux&oldid=1066510911
--Heikkikoskinen (talk) 20:24, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hello! I took a look, and it looks like you've got a great start, but I actually don't think it's ready to be moved to the main namespace yet. The primary reason that it should not be moved yet is because it doesn't demonstrate Wikipedia's concept of Notability. I understand that RESF is notable because of what they do, but that is a different standard than what Wikipedia requires. There is something called the "General Notability Guideline" that we must abide by. The guideline basically states that an article's subject has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. As of right now, Rocky Linux has had significant coverage, but I'm not so sure about RESF in particular. If you can find the sources detailed in the GNG (even just a few), then it should be fine to move into the main namespace, and I can certainly do that for you. Brian Reading (talk) 22:56, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, I think the topic is significant because CentOS was the most used enterprise operating system in the world and Rocky is in full swing to take that place.(1) So the organization that develops it is significant. However, I understand the high standards of Wikipedia and I added sources to the article and improved on more.--Heikkikoskinen (talk) 12:11, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, "significance" on Wikipedia is a different beast. I personally agree that the subject is significant, but we need to see sources about the RESF as its primary subject matter, not simply mentioning their names in a source otherwise primarily covering Rocky Linux. Looks like you changed it to a redirect, and I support that move. Cheers. Brian Reading (talk) 22:26, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

Revision to the Lenovo IdeaPad page
[edit]Hi Brian. My name is Stuart. I work for Lenovo and therefore have a disclosed conflict of interest on the IdeaPad page. The current IdeaPad page is mostly made up of data about each product release, but it's outdated, has many tags, and is poorly formatted. On the Talk page I proposed a product table (see here) similar the one at ThinkPad#Current_model_lines that would help clean-up/consolidate the page.
I was hoping you might be willing to take a look and implement the product table however/wherever you deem appropriate, or provide any feedback/direction, with due regard for the comments @Mckaysalisbury: already made on Talk. StuartGill (talk) 16:07, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
- @StuartGill I have weighed-in on that talk page. Thanks for reaching out and trying to get more consensus on this. We can continue more discussion there. I'll let Mckaysalisbury have a chance to respond, and if there is no further movement. I can definitely try to incorporate this table myself, because I think it is important for us to have more current info. Brian Reading (talk) 22:23, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Brian. I know you said you wanted to give Mckaysalisbury an opportunity to chime in, but it's been three weeks with no response (and I was following up with him for about 2 months before that), so I wanted to check-in regarding the IdeaPad page and the draft product table I proposed as a replacement for most of the page. FYI - after we last spoke, the page was nominated for deletion basically for the same complaints I have regarding the quality of the page. ~~~~

Hi BrianReading. I disclosed a conflict of interest on the IdeaPad page and proposed a product table as a possible replacement for 30+ separate sections on individual products/lines that are filled with tags, out-dated, incomplete, and contain excessive detail for an encyclopedia. You added the proposed product table, but didn't delete any of the content the table was intended to replace. I wasn't clear if you disagreed with proposal to replace the current content (not add to it), or if you just hadn't gotten to it. Let me know what you think is best and any way I can help. Pure Storage page revisions
[edit]My name is Zac and I work for a company called Pure Storage. I disclosed a COI and requested some changes here including correcting that the Purity operating system is used in most, but not all, of the company's products, and correcting/updating the list of major product families.
You'll see there that there's been some back and forth already. @Mckaysalisbury: asked me to make it easier by proposing a draft (linked here), rather than requesting specific edits. @North8000: said he wanted to preserve the summaries of each product family (I had actually thought too much product information might be why the tag at the top).
In any case, I've addressed all the feedback provided and not sure where to go from here in terms of getting the corrections actually implemented. Do you have time to chip in? If there's something else I need to do or some other feedback I need to address, just let me know. ZacBond (talk) 18:18, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Rather than continue our edit war, perhaps we can take it to the Talk Page (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:MS-DOS#MS-DOS_logo_2) and see what the rest of Wikipedia has to say on the matter? King Arthur6687 (talk) 08:02, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
