Re: Garageland (song)
[edit]Hi Ben, I think it is a good idea, and that was my intention when I created/started that page. And, as you wrote in my talk page, there is not much material about this [GREAT] song. Maybe we could add something to the introduction, eg: "Garageland" is a song by English punk rock band... written by Joe... and composed by Mick... featured on their first album.... ...and to deepen the story about the relation between Charles Shaar Murray, The Clash, and that gig and that song. ... and etcetera. "Garageland" has been performed live many times. It is the name of a tribute (to The Clash) band from New Zealend, and it has been covered by many, and it is also featured on two tribute albums: City Rockers a Tribute to The Clash (1999) performed by The Sick, and Charlie Does Surf (A Tribute to The Clash) (2004) performed by The Glasgow Tiki Shakers, and probably on some films and electronic games (I must investigate). We have formed a (not so active) wikiproject related to The Clash (and also a portal). There you can find a big container where I've collected some informations about them (and one of my goals is to create an article that covers all their tours, and then one for each tour, but I had not the time to do it). [Just search that page for "Murray" (Later, Murray became a huge fan of the band) and then "Garageland" and see if there is something that could help]. Thank you for your message (I really appreciated) and, please, do not hesitate to contact me (and keep me informed). Cheers. –pjoef (talk • contribs) 07:28, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
- Update #1
I have collected some info about "Garageland". There is a list of bands and artists who covered the song (most of them are unknown, and there are many Clash tribute/cover bands); a link to a periodical with the same name; song's appearances on varius albums and DVDs; more about the The Midnight Special gig and the Charles Shaar Murray affair (with references); and, a 1977 article, "The New Wave Punk Rock Explosion", by Caroline Coon, which also talks about "Garageland". You can find this material here (feel free to copy, move, use and whatever...). I hope this helps (and [I hope that] more will come out; for example, its live debut [date and location]). - Update #2
You are more than welcome.
I took a look at the new version, and I like the new structure and how it is evolving. Maybe you could use Extra album cover for the album cover (directly within the Infobox song after the | Misc =
field, instead of
.
Code:

In the above example I used both Upper and Lower caption fields, you can use the one you prefer, of course, just see how it looks.
REF tags (
) go after punctuations (,.;:
); the External links section goes after References (section) and I generally prefer to use Refbegin and Refend (the first before and the second after the list of external links) to make the text ca. 90% in size (same size of the References section).
From time to time or just before it is ready for the mainspace (and if you want), I could take a look at your page and make some minor edits such as those described above. All the best. –pjoef (talk • contribs) 07:52, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
- Once again, you are more than welcome! Take a look at the following links (when you have some spare time) (the last link is considered to be spam and is blacklisted at MediaWiki):

Garageland was written as a result of Charles Shaar Murray's New Musical Express review of The Clash at Screen On The Green :
" The kind of garage band who should be speedily returned to their garage, preferably with the motor running, which would undoubtedly be more of a loss to their friends and families than to either rock'n'roll."
The riff's debt is to Mott The Hoople's "All The Way From Memphis."
In the Uncut magazine February 2003, original band members tell the inside story of the group's early days and the making of their debut album with superb photographs by Kate Simon.......
Tony Fletcher's " the Clash.....the Complete Guide to their Music (2005) " features an album by album, track by track analysis & information on when and where the music was recorded.

- Charles Shaar Murray and the Clash go back a long way - back to the beginning, in fact. He recalls his first encounter with the band, and talks to Mick Jones and Paul Simonon about reunions, rebellion, and the death of Joe Strummer

It's a bit complicated to explain, but no, I'm not Joe, and there is and there'll always be ONE and only ONE (COMANDANTE) JOE! "pjoe" sounds (in English) like my nickname, and it is in part a tribute (my humble tribute) to Joe Strummer. I am using it on the www since 1996 when I opened my first email account.
Well, I added a couple of notes to that page and I hope I was clear enough. We need to know which of them (which of those albums and bands/artists listed there) we should add to that article by following the guidelines. and verifiability and notability criteria for musicians/ensembles, albums, and songs.
Thanks for joining the The Clash and MOTD WikiProjects, it is much appreciated. We really need help. Thank you!

- Update 2011-09-30
I added two paragraphs to the Writing and recording section with some verses of the song. I do not think that the two paragraphs in question are already okay, and they still need more work, but I think this is the only way we have to put part of the lyrics of the songs into the article. I also think that we can remove the quote box for Caroline Coon. Cheers. –pjoef (talk • contribs) 10:17, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

Wikification drive
[edit]Hey there Benzband, I'm Nolelover, assistant coordinator of Project Wikify, and I'd like to welcome you to the October Wikfication drive. However, I've had to remove some of your entries since today is only September 23, and the drive doesn't begin until October 1st. Thanks, and I hope to see you again. :) I'll be watching this page, BTW. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 21:31, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for the information. I'll only start logging from october 1st; so i think you'll be seeing me then. BTW : this won't stop me from wikifying pages in the meantime (logs don't really matter anyway :) Benzband (talk) 06:07, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
