DYK for Don Bragg (basketball)
On 5 November 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Don Bragg (basketball), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Korean War allowed Don Bragg to set a UCLA basketball record for the most rebounds by a varsity freshman, which stood for almost 40 years? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Don Bragg (basketball). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Don Bragg (basketball)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Terrible leads

- @WikiOriginal-9: I give it a point for avoiding

⋅ —Bagumba (talk) 15:52, 7 November 2024 (UTC)- Ickk, I don't like that either. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 15:55, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- @WikiOriginal-9:
He played [[college football]] at [[Michigan]]
[1] —Bagumba (talk) 06:47, 8 November 2024 (UTC)- Randolph Morris, if just "former" wasn't clear enough. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 18:40, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
Bronny James LA Lakers roster status
Hi Bagumba, are we supposed to remove him from {{Los Angeles Lakers roster}} and {{Los Angeles Lakers current roster}} since he's in the G-League? Left guide (talk) 08:02, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- If it makes any difference, I just realized the "roster" template (but not the "current roster" template) has a "(GL)" designation in the legend which says
On assignment to G League affiliate
, but it is not currently being used on Bronny's name there. Left guide (talk) 08:09, 10 November 2024 (UTC)- I'm not very active in updating those templates, but my understanding is that a 2-way player is left on the NBA roster, since they still have a contract with them. Does "assigned" technically apply to 2-way players, or only standard contract players? —Bagumba (talk) 09:26, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Left guide: Ack, I just remembered Bronny is on a reg contract, so I guess he could be marked "assigned". —Bagumba (talk) 09:28, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I don't think I know the answer to that question, hence why I am asking you. Has there ever been a consensus reached in the NBA project for handling this type of situation? I poked through some of the style guides, subpages, and WT:NBA archives but couldn't find anything specific about this. And yeah, I believe he has an NBA contract, don't know if that makes a difference for this issue. Left guide (talk) 09:42, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Left guide: It could be one of those de facto processes. Remember WP is WP:NOTBURO (but I often throw things in WP:NBASTYLE because I hate having to search and shortcuts make handy references). Getting back to Bronny, "assigned" applies here, independent of 2-ways. —Bagumba (talk) 09:55, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- I did find Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Basketball_Association/Archive_33#How_to_reflect_2-way_contracts?, not a consensus per se, but ... —Bagumba (talk) 10:23, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- That discussion link is helpful, thank you. So if I am understanding correctly, the difference is the designation
(TW) Two-way affiliate player
is a player with a G-League contract who sometimes goes back and forth to the NBA team, and the designation(GL) On assignment to G League affiliate
is a player with an NBA contract who sometimes goes back and forth to the G-League team, yes? I hope I'm not confusing you, a lot of these details are new to me and I'm learning as I go. Left guide (talk) 10:38, 10 November 2024 (UTC)- Roughly. Two-way players are special NBA roster designations—they have an NBA contract, but are limited as to how many games they can play at the NBA level. They can spend time in the G League, and cannot play in the NBA playoff. Contrast with a standard NBA contract player, who in their first few years in the NBA can be assigned by their team to spend time in the G League. However, they have no restictions on how many games they can play in the NBA. —Bagumba (talk) 11:27, 10 November 2024 (UTC)

- Possibly more of a note to myself, this T-wolves preview only mentioned "assignment" for non-2-way players:
—Bagumba (talk) 05:00, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Out: Daishen Nix, Jaylen Clark, Leonard Miller & Jesse Edwards
Daishen Nix (G League - Two-Way), Jaylen Clark (G League - Two-Way), Leonard Miller (G League - On Assignment) and Jesse Edwards (G League Two-Way) are out for the Wolves.- Yeah, it's a pretty clear distinction to me by now, after reading up and learning more since starting this thread. Opinion
What's your opinion on the hockey infobox? Examples: Wayne Gretzky, Alexander Ovechkin ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:16, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- I don't really edit hockey. While the big 3 sports can go overboard with highlights, having none is just the other extreme. Not sure if that's what you're asking. —Bagumba (talk) 17:21, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- The hockey infobox doesn't even have year spans for the teams (it's in the table of contents I guess though). Also, Alexander Ovechkin's Stanley Cup win is buried in the 14th row of the honors table. And I can't even tell how many Stanley Cups Wayne Gretzky won. He doesn't even have an honors section, there's only a link to List of career achievements by Wayne Gretzky in the "Legacy" section. I can't blame them for having the infobox like that though, at least when there's nothing in the infobox, you don't have to argue with people. Readers might complain about the infobox on reddit though ([2][3]) ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:35, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- There'd be nothing to argue if there was no articles either. Sometime you just have to live with both the blessing and curse of dealing with a crowdsourced environment. —Bagumba (talk) 17:44, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- "
crowdsourcedsourced-by-the-same-few-people environment" Fixed that for you. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:50, 13 November 2024 (UTC)- I'm not so sure if there's that many more editors in the other projects. —Bagumba (talk) 17:58, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, Bagumba, I'll stop bugging you. I'm just joshing around. I'm not planning to start any discussions anyway. Something as simple as team years was shot down just last month at Template_talk:Infobox_ice_hockey_biography#Team_Years with not one person in support (besides the OP). ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 18:04, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry for being the killjoy. Maybe I'm reading too much Wooden these days: "Do not mistake activity for achievement." Can still get me riled up on former Americans tho. —Bagumba (talk) 18:21, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- If you need more good reading, try the archives at Template talk:Infobox ice hockey biography. It's interesting stuff. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 18:28, 13 November 2024 (UTC)

Image copyright/licensing
Hey Bagumba, I know you coached me a while ago on image copyright and licensing for a couple of basketball images. When possible, would you mind taking a look at File:Backboard shattering.jpeg and providing feedback? I found it on Flickr and uploaded it here (the photo is from a 2009 minor league basketball game) because I believe it qualifies as fair use for backboard shattering, to improve that article. I don't do this type of thing often, so I want to be sure everything in the form is accurate to avoid deletion. A second opinion would really help and provide reassurance, thanks. Left guide (talk) 09:14, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- Someone tagged it as WP:F7 with {{dnfu}} apparently claiming it fails the #1 criteria of no free alternative available, even though I searched for free images and couldn't find any. Left guide (talk) 09:30, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Left guide: Yeah, that tag says to "discuss the matter on the talk page", so that seems the route to go to discuss their concerns. Good luck. —Bagumba (talk) 09:34, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
DYK for Eddie Sheldrake
