Welcome to Wikipedia, and appreciation
[edit]Hello. I responded to a comment you made on WT:WIR and a few other editors pointed out that I might have been somewhat harsh, especially given you were a new editor. I took a look and - you are a new editor, of only three months! And yet - you've done absolutely amazing work in those three months, multiple well written articles, and even getting blocked! (Which may not seem like a desirable achievement, but is certainly an achievement! Especially in surviving it, and continuing to do good work!) Anyway, I would like to show a bit of appreciation for that excellent work, by way of welcome.
- I found and uploaded a free-licensed image for Laura Vanderkam and cropped it; if you believe the uncropped one would be better, please do use that one.

- Per your userpage request, I tried to track down Robert Bruce (actor) from "Ask Me Again", but suspect IMDB may have sent me down the wrong rabbit hole. It links "American Playhouse" Ask Me Again (TV Episode 1989) - Full Cast & Crew - IMDb to Robert Bruce - IMDb, who seems to have been Robert Bruce | NZ On Screen. If this is him, he seems to have been an interesting person: Scot, New Zealander, Actor, Wrestler, Agent, Stuntman, Bodyguard ... if there are enough sources to make an article about him, it will be an amazing article. However, that makes me doubtful if this is him, since Nelson Rodker is supposed to be a nerd, right? Would a huge wrestler type have been cast as a nerd?
Anyway, the image is good, hope you like that one, and even more so hope you keep up the great work writing. Thank you. --GRuban (talk) 01:01, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- @GRuban Many thanks for your kind words and all your help. The actor playing Nelson Rodker didn't sound Scottish, though of course that doesn't mean a thing. There must be some podcaster out there who would like to take on this challenge, right? Someone who loves Scrabble... Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 02:29, 6 October 2024 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Hi Allthemilescombined1 -- You asked for feedback at WiR on this; not sure what aspect you are concerned about? Some quick off-the-cuff thoughts... The subject looks notable to me under WP:AUTHOR but you probably could make this more obvious for a reviewer (whether in AfC or NPP) by linking the book reviews more clearly. I'd divide it slightly differently, esp moving hospital executive into the earlier section -- the Career is best focused on the wiki-notable career as an author, not on other aspects. I'd also take hospital exec out of the lead. Generally op eds in newspapers don't contribute (much) to notability, and can put reviewers off a bit. (It's a common promotional gambit to list tonnes of these.) I'd slim these down to a few of the most prominent examples. The word "speaker" is also loaded with promotional overtones for reviewers and you might like to remove this from the lead too. List the books that have multiple reviews in the lead with dates of publication and co-author. Hope this helps! Good luck! Espresso Addict (talk) 04:15, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- As an aside you do realise that it's completely ok to just move your creations to mainspace yourself? (Obligatory caveat: As long as you are not being paid to write them.) NPP can be harsh but it's generally a lot quicker than AfC. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 04:20, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- And another one... I notice you are the editor who created Carol A. Carter -- I meant to thank the creating edit on that one, but hit the wrong line in the history. Anyway, thanks!, I read it with interest (used to work in the field of HIV). Glad you ignored the unhelpful comment at Teahouse on Carter's notability. Espresso Addict (talk) 04:25, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! I think I'm an approval junkie. I want to make sure everything I move to mainspace is up to standards. But also there's an aspect of "look mom, I made this picture! Oh honey, it's so great!" (In Bossypants, Tina Fey makes her first picture in kindergarten, expecting praise like she gets at home, and the boy next to her rips it in half). I'll work on this latest draft with your comments in mind. Side point - you know who else has a beautiful smile, besides Carol A. Carter? Carol Ann Carter! With cool art stuff in the background. Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 12:01, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- I think you have to run with Silence Equals Approval here or you go mad; there's so much bad content that needs fixing, people often neglect to praise the enormous effort that goes into creating decent content. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 02:50, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- And, oh, now I see what you mean on Carol Ann Carter; pity we can't get that image into the article -- I do think bios especially are greatly enhanced by an image but there are so rarely free ones to be had. Espresso Addict (talk) 02:55, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Here are recent diffs of your additions that fail WP:DUE, WP:WEIGHT, WP:NPOV and WP:RELEVANCE being reverted by various editors: [1], [2], [3], [4] and so on. Instead of addressing these reverts, you have re-added similar content in the same and other articles. Please stop doing this, as it is disruptive editing. If you want a particular piece of content added to a page, and it is challenged, seek consensus for it in talk. You have already been notified about this area being a WP:CTOP, so I won't repeat the earlier warning, but please keep this in mind when editing in future. - Hi, I posted two separate requests on the talk page and pinged you. Hearing no response after a couple of days, and with no discussion for several days after my edits, I re-added the content. I would appreciate if you would start a discussion on talk before reverting my edits without any discussion, or ping me so I can discuss with you. I look forward to discussing the material, since we still haven't. Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 11:37, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, I did not receive a ping for either of these - I believe a ping only happens after an edit (as seems to have happened on those two talk page threads) if you create a new line (WP:PINGFIX). I'll answer on the talk page, but the tl;dr is that neither piece of information has anything to do with the article, which is not about Palestinian views or antisemitic incidents. Sheryl Sandberg
[edit]I reverted your edit to Sheryl Sandberg. Your edit may very well have been correct, but isn't supported as far as I can see in the article. If you have a reliable source indicating specifically that Sandberg is an activist against antisemitism (as per WP:BLP, WP:NOR, WP:RS), feel free to add back your properly cited claim. --Yamla (talk) 23:21, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Calling on Jewish leaders to unify against the rising tide of antisemitism, she urged them to stand resilient and to take action in combating misinformation and bias within educational institutions and society.[1] Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 00:44, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- The article already describes her work producing a documentary of antisemitic sexual crimes. Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 00:46, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- Producing a documentary would not be sufficient; see WP:NOR. Similarly, the article from jpost doesn't describe her as an activist against anti-semitism, though it would certainly be sufficient to indicate she is concerned about rising antisemitism, stnads against antisemitism, etc. etc. The key point is, we can only claim what is directly supported by reliable sources, not come to our own conclusions about what that means. --Yamla (talk) 01:49, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

2025 Update from Women in Green
[edit]Hello Allthemilescombined1:
2024 has wrapped up, and what a full year it was for WikiProject Women in Green! Over the past year, we hosted two edit-a-thons, one themed around women's history and another on women around the world. We also managed to achieve most of our 2024 annual goals, nominating 75 articles for GA, reviewing 64 GA nominations, nominating 8 articles for FAC, peer reviewing 3 articles and reviewing 10 FAC nominations. Excellent work, and thank you to everyone involved!
For 2025 we have a new set of goals for nominations and reviews. In particular, we would like to see more articles on our Hot 100 list being improved and nominated for GA this year. If you take a look at the list and see an article you are interested in contributing to, feel free to add it and yourself to our Hot 100 project discussion. You might even find someone interested in collaborating with you!
This year, as with every year, we hope you will join us in helping improve our coverage of women and women's works on this encyclopedia. Every contribution helps. We'll see you around!
