DYK for Sayuri Ogawa

[edit]

On 13 September 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sayuri Ogawa, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the assassination of Shinzo Abe motivated a former believer of the Unification Church, Sayuri Ogawa, to become a prominent anti-cult activist? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sayuri Ogawa. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Sayuri Ogawa), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:25, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Maps for the Los Angeles Metro and San Diego Trolley

[edit]

Hello! I’ve noticed the great work that you’ve done with the maps for the Washington Metro and the Chicago "L". I was curious if you would be interested in also making maps for the Los Angeles Metro and the San Diego Trolley by any chance? Thank you! —-OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 17:54, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Self-immolation of Aaron Bushnell, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Al Jazeera. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Your message on my Talk page

[edit]

Hey Sameboat, I'm sorry if you felt accused of synthesis in my edit summary; I was just referring to a policy to simply explain my rationale for removing content from sources unrelated to the article's topic. As for what you said to me: please don't assume bad faith or say that I must have been too determined to run propaganda to notice—we all make mistakes, and I missed the related sources in the mostly synthesized subsection (by the way, while I'm here: please keep the SYNTH policy in mind, especially as you edit contentious topics). In the end, the article is now better: violations of WP:SYNTH are gone, and relevant sources have been restored, so thanks for your edits and for notifying me that I removed relevantly-sourced content. Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Topics related to the Arab-Israel conflict are subject to a WP:1RR restriction, meaning that an editor must not perform more than one revert on a single page—whether involving the same or different material—within a 24-hour period. An edit or a series of consecutive edits that undoes or manually reverses other editors' actions—whether in whole or in part—counts as a revert.

In the past 24 hours, you have made three reverts:

  1. 02:33, 1 March 2024 - Remove repeated "Free Palestine!". Minor, and I wouldn't mention it absent the broader context, but still a revert.
  2. 03:26, 1 March 2024 - Revert from "Israel-Hamas war" to "war in Gaza". Which one to use is highly contentious, and have very different meanings - it was originally implemented in a switch from "Israeli-Palestine conflict".
  3. 10:46, 1 March 2024 and 11:09, 1 March 2024 - Restore lede image and "Media coverage" section

Please self-revert any 1RR violations that you can still revert - specifically, 03:26, 1 March 2024, 10:46, 1 March 2024, and 11:09, 1 March 2024.

In addition, please keep in mind WP:ONUS and WP:STATUSQUO; the onus is on the editor who wishes to move away from the status quo to get consensus, and best practice is to leave the content at the status quo while discussion proceeds- and in a contentious topic like this, particularly once an RfC has been opened, that "best practice" becomes almost "required practice". BilledMammal (talk) 11:32, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, please remember to assume good faith while editing Wikipedia. Saying, for example I suppose you were too determined to protect certain regime while contributing to Wikipedia is an unacceptable personal attack. BilledMammal (talk) 11:36, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@BilledMammal: The first two are clearly not revert at all, and you have clearly violated the 1RR rule regarding the self-immolation image before me restoring the media coverage section. If you think I am the one violated 1RR, bring me to the administrator noticeboard. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 11:37, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just remove the image from the body as I have restored it to the infobox. Also, just vote in the RFC instead of replying to a bunch of comments, it makes it much harder to read later if it is a bunch of comments not about the rfc subject. nableezy - 13:08, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sameboat,
I noticed that your hand drawn c:File:Israel Railway map Hebrew English sb.svg uploaded on Commons and used in the template description is out of date because new stations and routeways were opened since the last time the file was updated, see Template:Israel Railways routemap for details. Could you update the SVG file and its associated PDF version? Thanks. --Arseny1992 (talk) 02:33, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

London overground line colours

[edit]

Hello, I have found information about the London Overground line colours, including the Pantone shades, and I am in the process of creating documentation on the Wikimedia Commons. Your patience is appreciated.

The flag boxes are available here, which uses colours from the design standards at https://content.tfl.gov.uk/tfl-colour-standard.pdf: the colour values in the flag boxes can be used to update your maps. --Minoa (talk) 19:34, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Minoa: Hi. Thanks for providing TfL's Colour Standard doc. While I am all for following the official colour scheme to a tee, unfortunately, this guide raises more questions than giving us a definitive answer. First thing first, the RGB and CYMK values provided in this doc differ a bit. Secondary, the actually color shown in the circle does not even match either RGB or CYMK values by quite a noticeable margin, if Adobe's color picker is to be trusted. The actual colors shown seem to be a bit lighter and less saturated than the color values.
Admittedly my current maps need some updates other than colors, like changing "Tramlink" to "London Trams", but I want to have every thing done in one go. Do you think you can get an answer of the disparity of colour values in this doc? -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 04:19, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Easy. I used Pantone's RGB values. See commons:Template:London transit icons. It's basically a continuation of the old "LUL colour" template documentation (archived here), which used the same colour scheme. --Minoa (talk) 06:27, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Minoa: You probably would want to update the color values in Module:Adjacent stations/London Overground. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 06:52, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
