Possible Grawp Vandal
Hi, Could you check out User talk:96.246.255.17, with this diff. Thanks LegoKontribsTalkM 05:28, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

I noticed some spam left at the bottom of his user page before it was preserved. It's not a huge deal obviously, but I think all things considered it would be appropriate to remove it. ʄ!•¿talk? 12:38, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Check a drawer for me please?
Hi Alison, I was wondering if you could check to see if there were any other accounts associated with the two that I blocked today? The accounts were:

Return of a BLP vandal
Re your block this diff, I think they're back. See Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2008-06-01 Lynn Conway. Is it possible to see if it's coming from the same place? Dicklyon (talk) 02:41, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Given the serious BLP issues, as well as the same attacks on Andrea James and others, plus the rather obvious sock-puppetry, I can state that BarbaraSue (talk · contribs) is Confirmed to be the indefblocked editor Renamed user 64ye713yjabli5793evkpavoyav53 (talk · contribs), anon editor, etc, etc. There were other accounts last year, but I can't remember now. This editor was also previously blocked for personal attacks on User:Jokestress, aka Andrea James. - Thanks for that - you were quick! :) You, or Dicklyon, might want to put a note into that MEDCAB case that this was a returning sock of a blocked editor. Note that the name is highly problematic and is likely a BLP issue in and of itself - Alison ❤ 04:56, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Done on the MEDCAB, I've left a note on the page and notified the mediator. I'll remove the previous account name since it is still in the diff I've posted. -MBK004 04:59, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Your Ban on IP 69.228.190.230
Your ban on the IP 69.228.190.230 for "multiple accounts" is completely uninformed and unwarranted. Since April 19, you have only succeeded in banning every random person at Red Rock Cafe in Mountain View, CA, USA.. This information is readily accessible on the talk page for User_talk:69.228.190.230, and was on the day of block. Red Rock is a very popular coffee shop in Silicon Valley. It is expected that multiple registered users and multiple unregistered users would originate from this IP. If Silicon Valley doesn't have a high incidence Wikipedians than where else would?
Banning IPs is an incredibly powerful tool and it should be used sparing. Granted, there are some regrettable instances when it is required, but to ban a shared IP is little more than collective punishment, is antisocial, and in direct conflict with the goal of making Wikipedia open to all.
So thanks. You kept me from fixing the atrocious language on David A. Wheeler's page.
67.180.193.93 (talk) 10:12, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Without saying too much on-wiki, this IP address had been used repeatedly by a banned editor to stalk and harass people in RL. Fortunately, that person no longer has internet access right now, so I'll gladly unblock that IP address now. Thanks for letting me know and sorry for all the trouble - Alison ❤ 11:10, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, it's now unblocked :) - Alison ❤ 11:12, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi Alison
Hi Alison, long time since my last post, (don't roll the eyes) its just I need something explained to me? Could you have a look at this for me here. I must be missing something, and you might be able to sort me out. Thats it! Nothing else! And yes, I'm up to my neck in it, never one to be a shrinking violet;) --Domer48 (talk) 19:42, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- If you would rather not, simply reply on my talk page “Barge Pole…not with.” Thanks --Domer48 (talk) 19:47, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Domer, I'd love to help, but it's definitely a barge pole moment for me. I've my own POV on that subject myself (which is why I steer clear) and while I can remain impartial, it would be a struggle. Lots of admins watch this page, so someone completely detached may come forward to opine. Really sorry! - Alison ❤ 00:04, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
No problem at all Alison, I do understand. Who ever dose come along will most certainly need to be detached, from reality. Well I'm off now to shake a few trees, hear, speak, and see no evil, wish me look;). --Domer48 (talk) 14:04, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Sekrit planz!
O hay, here they are:
- Take editors to RFAR;
- Bad-mouth on WR;
- Get UPS to flood their driveway with boxes;
- Challenge them to a children's card game so that you can steal their souls with some freaky-deaky Egyptian artifact, killing some gay clowns in the process.

Thanks. I had to go for a few hours. When I came back and saw that I had been vandalized that many times, I decided that enough was enough. I mean, I have to actually dig deep in the history just to find real comments. *sigh* J.delanoygabsanalyze 01:12, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Sarah's last stand?
I fear the Wiki community is fed up with Sarah's charges of political bias; her tampering with an AfD tag seems to have released alot of previously held back frustrations from others. I wish I could help get her out of trouble, but it seems I can only do so much; the rest is up to her. GoodDay (talk) 16:44, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- I've made one more plea to her. GoodDay (talk) 19:09, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- :( I'm not sure if there's anything I can do, GoodDay. I'm all for giving her another-other-other chance but seems we're in the minority - Alison ❤ 19:50, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I leave that task with you Alison. I wish you (and Sarah) good luck. GoodDay (talk) 20:01, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- I think the ball is very much in Sarah's court now. A sea-change in her way of addressing perceived injustices is required, without that there is little any of can do. I hope she can make that change. By the way, Allie. I was sorry to hear about your recent off-wiki issues. If in the future you need an admin to make a difficult block in relation to this, drop me an email. Rockpocket 20:11, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I am backing out of this conversation before I get charged with bloodthirstiness again. But please consider what you're proposing and whether you actually think it is possible. If you think you can do something here, then more power -- and respect -- to you. - Revolving Bugbear 23:32, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, guys, and thanks, Rocky, for your kind words. All's well in that regard for the near future at least. I've followed up on ANI to the latest responses and will give things another while to see what other folks say. I'm really loath to give up on her :( - Alison ❤ 11:41, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Alison, with all respect, I am not seeing the consensus for unblock. Please review the recent ANI thread. Also, for the record, I am becoming increasingly uncomfortable with this concept of "Irish admin unblocking Irish editor, and saying that people need to check with said Irish admin before the Irish editor can be blocked again." I'm also confused with why you feel that it's necessary to put a fast-track 12-hour deadline on this. You posted your idea about unblocking her, then 4 hours later you're declaring consensus? If you think that unblocking Sarah is that urgent, then please start (another) ANI thread. --Elonka 05:10, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- Elonka - am I reading this right?? Do you have a problem with my nationality? Are you suggesting I'm biased due to where I was born? I do hope not. Frankly, this debacle has gone on for more than long enough. I'm not seeing major dissent - just yours and maybe one or two others. That's all. - Could we talk directly, off-wiki? --Elonka 05:34, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, but I'd rather keep things public and visible on-wiki where possible. Email me if you like, for my Skype and AIM info - Alison ❤ 08:40, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- I am on AIM as "elonka". --Elonka 18:31, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- FYI, I have decided to open up a thread on this at WP:AE, since that is probably a better venue to discuss Sarah's block than just at her talkpage. I am working on a draft now and will let you know when it's posted. --Elonka 19:33, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- Elonka, I am highly disappointed that you have chosen to do this, especially given this is the closest we've got to consensus and resolution yet. I believe this is inappropriate because, 1) Sarah, being blocked, is unable to reply there, 2) This is not an arbitration enforcement issue, IMO, 3) All the major players re. Sarah are already on the page here, from all sides, 4) It smacks of forum shopping and 5) We need to end this nonsense, and soon, in deference to just about everyone and bringing this to WP:AE will prolong the mayhem and drahmaz for weeks, with a bit of effort. None of this is fair to Sarah, and bringing it to AE will just get people involved who have absolutely no idea as to the background to this matter, nor to the efforts that so many other people have put in to having this issue resolved. Please reconsider this action - Alison ❤ 20:12, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm on AIM right now, but you're not on-line - Alison ❤ 20:28, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Krabs checkuser request
Hi Alison. I'm asking you because you may remember 216.83.121.194 and Krabs502. There has been another recent outbreak of hoaxes. I've managed to put together some suspects at User_talk:Zzuuzz#Yet_another_Krabs_sock. and I've blocked some open proxies, but I wonder if you'd mind checkusering for puppets and the like (no real hurry). Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 11:34, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Help Needed
Hey Alison. Sorry for disturbing ,You dont know me. I just saw you on the checkuser request page and I thought you might be able to help me out. I know several users whose editing history are very similar so I thought it might be one person with several different accounts. Could you check the possible connection between user:Kayrat Tuntekov, user:Kesälauantait , and user:Lycander's Aim? One of them even had some disruptive edits on "Asia" page.At least two of them have been editing articles "blond" "Asia" and "Europe " with almost same intervals.I am a new user and I dont knoe how to ckech them or whatever you do.If they are not connected and Im wrong thats OK too. Gaeilge Dúchasach, an ea?
Haigh, a Stifle! I've been meaning to bug you about this one before ach ní raibh aon seans agam.
As a Gaelgóir, I'm wondering if you'd be interested in setting up an account and contributing over at the Irish language Wiktionary? We could use all the help we can get over there, having gone from a dead wiki with 30 words last August to a wiki with almost 1,000 Irish words and counting. It's fun and a peaceful break away from Wikipedia. Pretty-please? - Alison ❤ 21:26, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm pretty rubbish at the layout and formatting of Wiktionaries in general. I also can't understand IPA pronounciation guides. I'll drop over if I can but I don't know if I'll be of a lot of use. Stifle (talk) 09:57, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

could you possibly mark an image as copyvio for me?
[1] is an extreme obvious copyvio of [2]. I've been hopelessly failing to put the templates up properly on here and commons but it's not working as it's late lol and I've not done it before. Right now, I'm trying to discern what's proven and what's not as I'm certain there will be an unban request at a later date. Just not right now! :) I need to run checks as early as I can to ensure the checkuser data doesn't go stale. But yes, he's already got quite a history on here - Alison ❤ 08:16, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Rollback
It's not like I'm a very active rc-patroller at this project, but I do have some rather obscure pages on my watchlist and find I need to revert vandalism every now and then. Would that be sufficient to get access to the rollback function here? (I'm used to having it elsewhere, so I get kind of frustrated without it - however: having it would probably only save me some 6-8 clicks a month or something, so it's really no big deal ;o) Regards, Finn Rindahl (talk) 08:55, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

I am twelve year old Australian user Princess Rebel, and I am an active vandalism-reverter, editor and artice-creator of the English Wikipedia, and the Star Wars wiki, Wookieepedia. I have been researching on Wikipedia for ages, editing for about a year, and i'm finally an official user. I would like to apply for rollback rights. I'm begging! Don't let my age deter you, because, I'm not showing off, honest, I hate obnoxious people, but my English is possibly better than the average population of Australians. Sincerely, Princess Rebel (talk) 11:50, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
I am aiming to nominate this article for GA and to be a FA on 21 June. If you can suggest any improvements to the article please let me know.--Vintagekits (talk) 12:36, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
User:Bennet556, back again
This time he's using his full real-life name: User:Kristopher James Owen Nimbley. By the way, Bennet556 is himself a reincarnation of User:Nimbley6 and User:Nimbley112007.
Do we have any recourse to keep him out more permanently, rather than playing whack-a-mole forever? This kid is just not getting the point. Kevin Forsyth (talk) 14:45, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- Confirmed and blocked again. Whack-a-mole for the moment, I'm afraid. He's awfully easy to spot, though. If it goes on too long, I'll apply a rangeblock - Alison ❤ 22:48, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Message from User:Jc37
Jc37 is having computer issues, but was able to send me an email, and requested I give you the following message:
Please let User:Alison know that thatcher performed the checkuser on PatPeter. He seemed confused, and so I responded and asked follow-up questions, but even though I left notes/questions on his talk page twice, he hasn't answered. Though I note that something similar also happened when thatcher performed the CU on Pastorwayne. So perhaps it's something to do with some process or potocol that the CU doesn't answer questions? Anyway, I don't understand, but I'll presume that Alison would, so please let her know.

Tom Ketchum
Hey - there is a CAT:RFU unblock request from Tom Ketchum (talk · contribs) that needs to be handled by a checkuser. Can you look at it and take care of it? Jayjg blocked this user saying that he is a sock of a particular banned user. (He emailed me the banned user's name and known socks.) I looked at the contributions and, see irreconcilable dissimilarities, which I have commented on at User_talk:Jpgordon#Tom_Ketchum.C2.A0.28talk.C2.A0.C2.B7_contribs.29. Jpgordon said that the only relationship between Tom Ketchum and the banned user is that they both used the same dynamic IP for a two-day period. Jayjg said that there is other evidence of wrongdoing and that I do not have all of the facts. I am assuming that Jpgordon doesn't want to handle this himself since he is an arbiter and needs to remain neutral (my assumption). Can you look into it and make a determination on the unblock request? Thanks. --B (talk) 18:09, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, B. I'll look into it here, and re-run the checkuser, etc. I'll have to contact Josh, however, to get the full picture as there may be evidence I'm not aware of which may not have been disclosed for privacy reasons. I'll get back to you both - Alison ❤ 18:15, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello! This is the same Razorflame from the Simple English Wikipedia. I've been working more over here on the English Wikipedia, and I am also currently undergoing admin coaching, and I respect you a lot here. RE: Usernames
Hello Alison, I have a question for you reguarding Hornetman16. I'm sure you know him as ChristianMan16 on Simple. He was told on Meta to request a name change to fix his unified login, but of course he is blocked from changing anything. Since you're are an Admin here, and you know who he is on Simple, could you see if you possibly could change his username - only for the sake of his unified login. And he is not asking to be unblocked, just to change his username to fix login. Would it be possible? Thanks -- ✰AmericanEagle 21:42, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Checkuser question
Hi Alison. This question is concerning Wikipedia:Abuse_reports/217.87.x.x#Concerning_217.87.x.x. There is an IP hopping vandal on a dynamic IP that has basically forced us to range block a big range of a popular German ISP. A user who edits from that IP said that all or part of this range is a transparent proxy. If (big if) this whole range is transparent proxies, do you have the ability to detect and block the underlying IP? Thanks. --B (talk) 01:45, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Allegedly Compromised Account
I told him to contact you about it, but for some reason he hasn't. My adoptee, User:The SRS, claims that his account has been hacked. Apparently it isn't that big of a deal to him (*o*), so I guess put it on the bottom of your to-do list, but could you please look into it? Cheers Alison, The Hybrid 09:01, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- It's not been hijacked, far as I can see. Not unless someone in his house is doing it - Alison ❤ 09:26, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking on that, Alison. Hmm, so, he was probably lying. Any advice on where to go from here? It would appear that he is doing this to avoid editing the mainspace while still keeping his userspace without suffering the consequences (yes this is a run-on sentence :P). I'm not really sure what to do now. Cheers, The Hybrid 09:35, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- Suggest to him that it's time to start treating Wikipedia like an encyclopedia-building project, and not something like MySpace. People turn a blind eye to a lot of myspacey social-networking on here, but there has to be some kinda work done too. That's why we're here. You could point out that people have been blocked in the past for fooling around in userspace without editing and maybe you could suggest they join a Wikiproject or something, that would get them jump-started into mainspace editing? - Alison ❤ 09:41, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- Well, that's the thing. iMatthew did all of that; the adoption was a last-ditch effort on my part to save him after iMatt explained to him that he could end up blocked, pointed him to WP:PW and the like. Things seemed to be going well, he asked me to write up a curriculum to help him learn the policies, he cleaned up his signature abuse (transclusion to bypass the 255 characters) and the like. However, then he went on a wikibreak, supposedly. He's back to his old ways, but now he's been caught with his hand in the proverbial cookie-jar. While supposedly on break he's been myspacing it up, with a notice on his page about hacking. I didn't notice either of these things, which I have no excuse for, but iMatthew did notice the myspace violations reappearing, and called him on it. He claimed to be hacked, and here we are now. My gut tells me to give him a final warning, but I really don't want to. If you think that I should, I will, but I'm not sure that's the answer. Cheers, The Hybrid 09:52, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ufff. I dunno. It sounds like he's just not into editing the encyclopedia. You could possibly post a request to ANI to ask an admin to give him an ultimatum. It sounds like he needs it, and that multiple people are wasting their time in trying to help him "get with the program" - Alison ❤ 09:58, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'll message him, and give him a week. If he isn't all together by then I'll start the ANI thread. *Sigh* - oh well. Thanks :) The Hybrid 10:01, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

- Heh - thanks, Tiggerjay. Good night to you, too :) And yeah, statusbot has been b0rk'd for ages now. Dunno what's wrong there as sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't - Alison ❤ 09:31, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- It appears that some other bots have popped up in it's place and used the same framework, so it starts to work once in a while, however it looks like the sys admins have finally shutdown all of the status-bot like tools since they're beginning to affect server performance due to the shear number of edits it is performing all the time. A couple of people have suggested some "bug fixes" that would permit it to run on MediaWiki itself and be far more efficient, but they keep getting shot down, oh well. another polscience?
I am not sure, if this is the right place to put this, but I have seen that you have found many sock puppets of user: polscience in the past. I have a suspicion, not really evidence, that a new avatar is with us. I am suspicious, because the new user jumps into polscience's favorite discussion and it is equally difficult to follow his arguments. Also his driving motivation seems to be similar, i.e., rather to criticize status quo than providing constructive propositions. So, if possible check user: TurkeyKnight. My sincere apologies, if my suspicion is wrong. Tomeasytalk 14:26, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi Alison,
See here -- apparently the IP block expired, and Ceauntay quickly created new accounts going up to User:Ceauntay44 with the same nonsense. Could you please restore/extend the IP block? Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 19:10, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

In actual fact, it's Johnny the Vandal / JtV / Italian Vandal - call him what you like - and it looks like he's had some serious fun on that wiki. There are a series of problems right here; those guys are giving out sysop rights with no authentication whatsoever. Secondly, it's ScribbleWiki, and the revision of MediaWiki just isn't capable of handing the sort of vandalism that's going to happen there. Thirdly, the checkuser logs are broken on ScribbleWikis :) Fourthly, accounts cannot be renamed - Alison ❤ 18:22, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Sock advice
Alison, you've been very helpful in the past about sock puppets of community-banned James Salsman (LossIsNotMore et al.). I've had a new user pegged as his latest sock since its creation, but James has vowed to make his socking harder to catch, and my idea that his IP ranges need to be checked monthly is of course difficult to work. My only real evidence is style of language and fixation of edits and knowing it when I see it. The user I have in mind has only edited in relation to Ron Paul, almost always skirting the borders of BLP, with one exception for Bo Diddley. I got him blocked for 3RR but he is retaining familiar single-mindedness. Could you provide me a little guidance on this talk as to how to proceed? Finding really good behavioral matches is very time-consuming and I have succeeded in outing him once or twice before. Every time we get him we flush out a whole nest. Thank you. Your comment; "having faith in other moderators..."
I have tried to argue my case re:http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Domer48#Third_opinion, by asking him directly on his talk page why he has repeatedly removed my addition to the IRA page (which is factual based - the IRA being a "paramilitary" organisation and not "military" one, with the latter being officially sanctioned by a country or government, and the former not), deleted my addition to the IRA talk page asking why (and I assure you I was not in for the personal attacks at this stage). I requested a third opinion (As you saw) but the user deleted my contribution toward it (as it was I who suggested it), said the third opinion wasn't needed, forget about etc, and the other moderated agreed. I mean, what is this a joke? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crieff405 (talk • contribs) 23:56, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello. Per your comment here to Scorpion, I was wondering what your personal opinion is on a topic like this appearing on a project talk page. The talk page guidelines seem sort of broad in that topics should pertain to the subject. In the above example, it pertained to vandalism on a respected project member's page. Thanks. I was really referring to the large amount of material excised from the article's previous Criticism section. At least some of those sources were Fox news subsidiaries. NisarKand
Dear Alison,
You have no idea who NisarKand is. I will soon let you know what type of person he is. I have the things he wrote for which he got banned still on record. You will see soon. By the way, I don't know why you keep mentioning Tajik, he hasn't edited in over a year now and has not made any sockpuppets since he unjustly got banned. Probably NisarKand manipulated you into beleving I am him or something like that. If you check his checkuser page you will see he does not even have one sockpuppet confirmed. Tajik has never made a single sockpuppet, see for yourself his checkuser page. http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Tajik
Only one is likely and the rest were actually Beh-nam.
Either way, he hasn't made any recently so I don't know why you mention him. Probably NisarKand fooled you as he fools others. Or maybe you all just support NisarKand. I suspect that lately since all the admins including you just ignore him and let him get what he wants.
You could easily IP range block him, he is from a small town in Pakistan, not many people from there will be editing the En Wiki.
Beh-nam however is not possible since he lives in one of the largest cities in North America and blocking his IP will block some 6 million people from editing because his ISP is the largest in the region. You don't want to do that because many Wiki editors, including admins are from Beh-nam's area.
NisarKand however is ok since there are no other editors on En Wiki from his area.
- Hi Alison, this anon visited my talk page, so I checked him out and got here. If you take a look at my talk page, he is definitely a sock of Beh-nam (same spelling issues, tone, pov), and it is also obvious that Beh-nam is the person behind the pseudonymous sock-thing that was made some months back (it was carl.blunderson, or something similar). Anywho, to stick my nose into your talk page, I think it would be prudent if you blocked this IP, as well as WikiSockpuppetFinder, as socks of Beh-nam; also, do a check-user on Rodwa4. He doesn't have the sock feeling, he's been very reasonable, but it can't hurt.
- Also, while I have your ear, would you take a look at Survivalism. I've been in an edit-war, both of us violating 3rr, over a disagreement on the EL policy. Three different editors have clearly sided with me in one way or another, and I feel that the user I'm opposing is in violation of EL policy and thus a vandal. Ergo, I am not guilty of 3rr violation for blocking purposes. But no matter what you think, admin intervention is definitely needed...its been quite a headache. Thanks, Alison. Carl.bunderson (talk) 07:08, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hi there. The 70.xx IP is Confirmed as Beh-nam (talk · contribs) again, as is WikiSockpuppetFinder (talk · contribs). Rodwa4 (talk · contribs) is Unrelated to NisarKand, however, and I've rolled back Beh-nam's naughty RFCU request. I'll take a look at the edit-war in the morning here. It's 1:30 am now :) - Alison ❤ 07:38, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you, Alison. And another admin protected the page with the edit-war, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt if you would give your opinion on the issue, to discourage one of us. And it looks like we'ere in the same time-zone, fwiw. I'm off to bed soon too, soon as I tie up all my wiki-loose ends. Carl.bunderson (talk) 07:51, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello Alison, I hope you don't mind me asking, did your checkuser on the IP bring up more than two users? The reason I ask is that I believe Fonez4mii is or has been using multiple socks. A gut feeling, but one I think is correct. Thanks! Jack forbes (talk) 09:11, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- Note, Checkuser is not for fishing, and gut feeling is not generally a good enough reason for checkuser, but I put up no objection if need be. Fone4Me 09:54, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
OTRS favour
Can you check the OTRS of Image:Bird Headshot.JPG, the lack of source information in this free use image is making me wary and I can't see the OTRS filing without an account. –– Lid(Talk) 14:34, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- Just nod if you can hear me. –– Lid(Talk) 05:27, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- *nod* *nod* - yep. I just deleted it for a number of reasons. It's a dupe of the previously-deleted Image:Bird Headshot.jpg (note the case), it's a blatant copyvio from here, the original uploader tagged it with the OTRS template when they were not authorized to, nor did it have any ticket number. Sorry, but it had to be nuked :( - Alison ❤ 05:37, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
It actually wasn't the original uploader who tagged it.[7] And the Guardian link shows it elsewhere in use, but attributed it as a PR photo rather than one the Guardian authored. So it is at least possible that the uploader was the actual author. I don't have any supporting information or information to the contrary, I'm just curious as to your decision making process. Postdlf (talk) 17:53, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry about all the fuss. That was really messed up, and I can see what happened now. I scoured OTRS yesterday looking for the ticket which covers that image, and couldn't find it. It had been previously uploaded twice before, and deleted twice before having had a number of licenses. Basically, the OTRS template was filled out in such a way that the ticket ID was invisible. Once I had the ticket, I was able to find it in the system, restore the image and move it to Commons (where I edit-conflicted with you over the cats :) ). Sorry about all the hassle. I think we're sorted now - Alison ❤ 21:48, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Invite to review a set of articles
Hi there. You participated in this ANI thread. I picked out the names of some editors I recognised, or who had extensive comments there, and I was wondering if you would have time to review the articles mentioned in the thread I've started here, and in particular the concerns I've raised there about how I used the sources. Thanks. Carcharoth (talk) 09:55, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Did you see the decision at the sockpuppet case? The admin said he could not be bothered looking at all the evidence, then decided he was innocent. I'm glad I already resigned due to being sick of sockpuppets and trolls, but this makes wikipedia even worse, I am now glad I resigned to get away from admins like that. Thanks. Hi Alison, another possible User:House1090 sock here: User:Salcan
based on their shared inability to understand copyright plagiarism and tendency to put bogus block notices on the user pages of editors they disagree with, as well as propensity to edit articles in the San Bernardino subject area. Bad grammar is also a match.

Vandalism images on Commons

A vandal
Hello Alison, How are you? I have'nt been making many edits lately, I have'nt been finding anything worth attention, I suppose the other 5,000 editors here are doing there job pretty well. I have been visisting Wikipedia almost every day, and I keep a look out for misspelled words and things like that. And of course, there is a more important reason why I visited. A user, who has'nt even created account, has started putting obvious spam on my talk page, including calling me a word I don't even know. Besides my talk page, he has only made three edits. I have tried to tell him the rules of this site, but I'm begining to lose my patience, and that is last thing I want to do with him. I was hoping that you could come in in case he does anything else. He has already been warned, and has'nt made an edit sinse then, but I fear the worst.Green Kirby (talk) 00:02, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Rossami & Skanger
Hey Alison.. re User:Rossami and Skanger, I wasn't aware Rossami was an administrator, I did look for the usual indicators but s/he appears not to note the fact on his or her user or talk pages. I also haven't before come across an administrator, or any experienced user, who has unilaterally redirected a page like Skanger not once but twice on the grounds of.. well, I haven't quite figured that one out either. "Wikipedia is not a collection of articles whose subjects are words that can also be found in dictionaries" is the new policy I think he was attempting to invoke. As far as your comment about wheel-warring goes, I protected the page once and once only in this case to prevent it being redirected / hidden again without any form of consensus or valid rationale. Had I realized R was an admin I obviously wouldn't have bothered given the inevitable unprotect. Deiz talk 15:47, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Deiz, while I actually agree 100% with your take on the issue here (I've worked extensively on that article in the past), what you did was completely out of order. You were in dispute on an article and, when a number of contentious reverts occurred, you fully protected the article yourself, and at your version to boot. That's a complete no-no from an admin perspective; you should never use the tools on an issue in which you are involved. That Rossami is an admin is neither here nor there, really, although they should not have undone the protect themselves and both of you should have gone to WP:RFPP with the issue when you felt the need arose. Just sayin', is all ... - Alison ❤ 16:38, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
re: notes about administratorhood
Thank you for the suggestion but I would prefer not to because I honestly believe that, for the most part, adminship is no big deal - that it's more like janitorial work than some special status or recognition. I would far rather someone looked at the content of my contributions and comments when deciding whether my edits make sense for the project. If the idea makes sense, if the comments or actions are in keeping with Wikipedia's established policy and traditions, then it doesn't matter whether it came from an ordinary editor, an anon IP or an admin whose been here since day one. (Jimbo gets special consideration but only because he's our benevolent dictator.)
I know that's an ideal and sometimes an unrealistic one. I've toyed with the thought of putting actual biographical detail on my userpage. This has been another datapoint to consider. I will continue to give it thought. Thanks again. Rossami (talk) 16:50, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

- Yeah, I just did a trace on a few and they're all going back to Istanbul. I was discussing it with Luna Santin. He thinks protection is preferable in this case, but I think a soft rangeblock for a few days would take care of the problem, without having to resort to semiprotecting a bunch of pages. If it's not too much trouble, checkuser the ranges and see if the collateral damage is within acceptable limits. Thanks for the attention, Enigma message 07:32, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm inclined to go with Luna's opinion on this one, too. Semi-prot, especially short-term ones, are far less restrictive than rangeblock - even soft rangeblocks. Given the total number of edits involved, and that it's in userspace, I don't feel comfortable in compromising the privacy of a large number of editors for this one issue. Really sorry on that, but the extent of the problem to-date doesn't warrant checkuser - Alison ❤ 08:10, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Prester John
Hi Alison - many thanks for your feedback at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Prester John. You mentioned other accounts but beleived they were unrelated. At least two users (other than myself) at User talk:Timeshift9#Can I just check ... were suspicious of C.Marsh b.Lillee because of his behaviour but couldn't quite put their finger on it. There are a couple of prominent articles that would be a clue - most obvious one is on Kevin Rudd - current Australian PM - the other on John Howard - immediate past PM. It would seem that Prester John was in a dispute about Copra Plantations in New Guinea just before his 3 month block - that was related to the Howard article probably. So sorry to nag but if you are confident the other accounts using the same Ip are unrelated that is fine ... if they are editing Australian political articles they may not be. It would have been hard to pick C.Marsh b.Lillee just on editing behaviour --Matilda talk 07:01, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Checkuser request
Hi Alison, could you possibly run a check user on me against an IP. To says I’m a little pissed off at the minute would be an understatement. The reason I ask is because I’ve been accused of running a sock here. The problem with accusations though, is once their made your forced to defend yourself. This is probably my fifth checkuser at this stage but hey whose counting. If it is at all possible I would be grateful. --Domer48 (talk) 17:05, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- The CheckUser would show nothing - whoever the IP is, they're editing from a cell phone, hence why I'm concerned about it. It would be very easy for an editor to use a phone connection to edit and use a seperate ISP to edit under a normal account - checkuser is inconclusive for this. Ryan Postlethwaite 17:11, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
You remove the comments of an IP’s from a talk page, and then block the page. The IP who had taken part in a discussion, you have now excluded from that discussion. When they went to WP:ANI you closed them down. They encouraged editors to take part in the discussion only to be edited out. You have made an accusation against me, which you are now saying you can’t back up? I file a valid arbitration enforcement and I get blocked. Angus can not answer one simple question, to support their article and talk page ban of me. Now this is going to one of two places, RfC or back to ArbCom. There is a distinct odour starting to emanate from all this, and its not coming from me. Alison, run the check user and then ask Ryan to explaine his accusations. --Domer48 (talk) 18:31, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm saying that it's an inconclusive result - it doesn't prove innocence or guilt, but the fact the IP is a cell phone is highly suspicious. I'm not saying that the IP is you, but I'm not discounting it - there's not much that can be done in a situation like this, except for for protecting the page to make sure that banned editors aren't posting, which is what I did. The fact is, it does look like someones usings different tactics to avoid CU detection - who is it? Well that's the tough one. Ryan Postlethwaite 18:35, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think I could make a good guess, and - considering the history of certain unwelcome editors using IPs to agitate - semi-protecting is a decent idea. I would say, though, that I don't think the IP is anyone who is currently, or has recently, edited the page from another account. In other words, I very much doubt it is Domer (and considering the rather heightened tension at the moment, I think its probably a good idea to make that clear). Rockpocket 00:02, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

- I ran the checkuser, as requested and can state that Domer48 (talk · contribs) is not socking, to the best of my knowledge. However, I cannot comment on the mobile IPs and have no way of connecting or distancing them from Domer in any way. I've just no way of knowing. I can state that Domer48 has never used a mobile IP under his logged-in name and I personally consider it unlikely, from a style and behavioural impression, that the anon editor is Domer - Alison ❤ 00:23, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for that Alison, I really appreciate it. While it is not the clear exoneration I would like, it is I know the very best you could provide. I simply regret the fact it was necessary to put you to the trouble. Rock thanks for that also, unexpected and welcome. --Domer48 (talk) 07:07, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
- Glad to help, Domer. Strictly speaking, I shouldn't really have run it as it's slightly on the edge of policy but under the circumstances, I thought it necessary. Checkuser isn't really an exonerating tool either ... - Alison ❤ 07:14, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Just thought you should be aware of the allegations out there, Metros (talk) 17:52, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Alison, I wasn't "staring a career of this", but after four good years, I wanted people to know what happened. If you would help understand the frustrations of some good users on here, maybe it wouldn't get to the point that it did. You didn't even take the time to read what I wrote. "Why good contributors go bad?" If administrators like you had been more helpful in dealing with those guys, do you think I would have reached the frustration level that I did? 4.240.165.33 (talk) 00:07, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
- I noticed this; you got RMS' real name wrong. I absolutely did read it through in its entirety, which was easy enough given you spammed it everywhere. I can understand your frustration but what you did was totally out of order; you framed another editor in order to ensure that they would be indefinitely blocked. Not only is that a blatant disregard for the rules here, etc, etc - it's also seriously unethical and sleazy. Not good at all. "Administrators like me" are run off our feet, day-in and day-out - you've no idea as to my workload both visible and behind the scenes. Seriously. I'm already spread far too thin, so don't go blaming me for your frustration nor your misdeeds - Alison ❤ 00:12, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
- I didn't "spam" it everywhere, I put it in the case for my blockage, and my three accounts, I didn't even put it on the noticeboard, because it is so big now (thinking of you). I just wanted to let my friends, or Wikipedians who valued my work, to know how I felt. I know that you work hard, but if some of my ideas were put in place, it would make your workload less. That is the point I was trying to make. Users like me wouldn't get so frustrated and do what we do, and I am not the first or last. And, admins like you wouldn't have to work as hard either, and get frustrated. I really know that Allison. I totally understand where you are sitting, and wanted you to know how I felt. I think I worked with you two or three years ago, I did work with an Allison, but I don't think that was their user name, and we got along fine. I just wanted you to know how got to the point that I did. And, I wanted some other contributors on here, that actually like me, to know also.
- Can I put it back without the user names?
- Yeah, go on :) Can I suggest that your indef block is indef and not a ban. You know all this stuff already. Take a break though - hey, go to another wiki like I do - and come back chilled out and maybe appeal the block. You've been great up until recently and just slipped up bigtime. It happens, but honestly, you need to take some timeout and without socking. If you do that - and honestly - I'll certainly support an unblock later - Alison ❤ 00:36, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
- Actually I thought it was a permanent block/ban, and would never be allowed back. I was a good contributor, and I think did some quality work. But, I have been out of work since Feb. 2007, and I think I let the financial stress really get to me the since this past May. I am in a downward spiral. I am so down I am not even looking for work. I shouldn't have let effect me on here, but it did. I let my bigger issues spill over here, maybe something that a person can't help? 4.240.165.59 (talk) 00:43, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
← No, it's not permanent. Just that there's no defined time when the block will be lifted. Take a break, do some other stuff and come back. Nobody should feel anger and frustration from editing WP. Sorry to hear about the job and stuff, too. That sucks :( - Alison ❤ 01:24, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
- PS: What is really sad is, since I have been out of work, I stopped doing other things that I enjoy. With the price of fuel and food, and power bill, etc et al, rising, I don't drive anywhere. I just stay home. Contributing to Wikipedia was the only "positive" thing that I did during the day. I even stopped taking Speck to the park. I felt like that if I could improve articles here, I was doing something positive with my time. I even put my account name with URL on my resume 1) as a since of pride, and 2) to show that I have been doing something semi-positive. Now prospective employers who look at my resume and actually go to my user page will find a different story. I am not the kind of person that they want working for them. It is pretty damn depressing all the way around. Thanks for reading. 4.240.165.59 (talk) 01:24, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
- Owch! Well, let's try fix that, at least. Nobody deserves to be branded like that, to the extent that it can affect their career. That's wrong - Alison ❤ 01:28, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I was trying to get a job at a media outlet editing. Guess I cut that off didn't I? Ever seen a grown man cry? 4.240.165.59 (talk) 01:30, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm so sorry that had to happen. I've changed your userpage and will leave a message over on ANI later today. See how things go. In the meantime, please take a break from all this. Take Speck out for a run - he needs it :) - go dig around and find another wiki which is far less stressful and work on that for a while. Have you thought about Wikiquote or Wikisource? - Alison ❤ 01:38, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

- Yes, I have thought about it. I guess because I have been here four years it is hard to pull away. I took a Wikibreak before, when I got stressed out, and came back without that same since of "ownership" to contributions. You know, you create or radically re-write an article, you take ownership of it, it is you baby. It is hard to divorce yourself of that feeling. When I am feeling good, it doesn't bother me and I can try to help users when they do things. But, when you get down, your patience runs short, and the little things that didn't bother you much before, you let really get to you. I really tried to work with DJQ and the General, at first (if you check the histories). I tried to positively guide them to a better product of mutual work. But, for what ever reason, some of them don't understand the language, some are very young, some of them won't take the time to read the tutorials, what ever it is, they just keep doing the same thing, over and over. It is like beating my head against the wall a concrete wall. Why can't there be a way to put these users on restricting editing until they see the bigger picture of cooperation and that there needs to be some layout rules? DJQ, just kept removing notices and creating new accounts. This user, Marion5900, will not space after punctuation. How do you get this guy to change one simple rule? He won't listen to me, just keeps plowing ahead, doing what he wants to do.
- Poor Speck, he has to put up with my depression and frustrations too. I see a user like the General, and cuss, and he gets off the couch and goes in the other room. Poor baby. I could actually see this whole breakdown coming the past month or so. It is like you are standing on the edge of a hole, and you know that you are going to slip in, but yet you do it anyway. Does that mean it is an addiction? Is the WCA (Wikipedia Contributors Anonymous)? :(
- Alison, thanks for listening to my diatribe and shit. You didn't have to. Other admins just blocked my IPs and moved on. Thanks again. 4.240.165.59 (talk) 01:59, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Based on the current Giano flap, I took a look at this user's contributions. They look like a sockpuppet or new account of a prior editor to me; especially given the first diff. Giano thinks they are related to one of the various The Troubles editors; I don't know that mess well enough to even have a suspicion as to which it might be, much less to tell if it worth a RFCU. But I think you do know the area well enough to figure if it is worth pursuing further. Thanks. GRBerry 20:18, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

checkusership
Alison, I am very interested in gaining Check-User status. I find that the Beh-nam/NisarKand/Tajik sockpuppetry drones on and on with no end in sight. I know their sockpuppets when I see them, and I would like the ability to take quicker action to verify my suspicions. You do terrific work in this regard, but maybe I can help lessen the load.
What is the process for me to take to gain Check-User status? And what advice do you have. Cheers, Kingturtle (talk) 12:36, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

A weird unofficial request for checkuser
I know checkuser is not for fishing, but off of the RFCU page, just as a talk page message outside of public view, I would like you to consider checking this user:
- Newshounddog (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log) · investigate · cuwiki)
Here's what happened: Newshounddog filed Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Rreagan007 alleging that Rreagan007 edited while logged out from an IP address that has recent talk page warnings. I determined that this was, in fact, correct, but that no violation of policy occurred. However, I noticed that Newshounddog's contribution history lasted a grand total of 27 minutes and was exclusively limited to filing this SSP case against Rreagan007. I honestly doubt that this is a legitimate new user. I wonder if it might be someone involved in a content dispute, but I have not found an obvious candidate. I know it's evil to wonder about such things, but still...
I have a real problem allowing any user to throw an accusation against another user without being accountable on his own username. If Newshounddog made this accusation in bad faith - certainly a possibility given the fact that Rreagan007 did not actually violate policy, and explained his actions to my satisfaction - then Newshounddog needs to be held accountable on his main account, and that main account needss to explain why it resorted to such underhanded tactics instead of just flat out making the accusation fairly. I know this is a really unusual request, but it's been bothering me for a couple of days, and I finally decided to come forward and ask. Yechiel (Shalom) 23:01, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi Alison, as the original checkuser would you mind reviewing this case again? The original IP for LL King was included in the 1st case, so if that can be confirmed as User:MichaelQSchmidt, that will confirm that L.L.King is MQS. I appreciate your help in the matter. Cumulus Clouds (talk) 20:26, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
How did you make your signature do that?
For some reason (while I was reviewing WP:RFCU), your username turns my cursor into a HELP cursor, not a HYPERLINK cursor. How do you do that? 64.136.26.230 (talk) 07:09, 27 June 2008 (UTC) PS Nice site architecture!

Checkuser
Hi Alison, sorry to bother you but admin Khoikhoi wrongly blocked User:Intellibeing as being sockpuppet of Nisarkand so can you please check to confirm and unblock that user. Also, please have a quick look at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Beh-nam because admin Kingturtle forgets to add his request to the list everytime. User:RobertJohnstone is another undetected sock of Beh-nam. Finally, User:Inshalla claims he is not sockpuppet of banned User:Anoshirawan so can you reveal to him that it is him. He used IP to revert Ahmad Shah Durrani that is assigned to Verizon Inc., which covers East Coast USA, and telling Kingturtle that he is Canadian. [15] Admin Thatcher explained that Anoshirawan is in USA. [16] I hope you don't block me as you did last week for reporting these things to you, and I'm not editing Wikipedia anymore.--119.30.67.6 (talk) 08:13, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Amish GA Sweeps Review: On Hold
As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria and I'm specifically going over all of the "Culture and Society" articles. I have reviewed Amish and believe the article currently meets the majority of the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. In reviewing the article, I have found there are several issues that need to be addressed, and I'll leave the article on hold for seven days for them to be fixed. I have left this message on your talk page since you have significantly edited the article (based on using this article history tool). Please consider helping address the several points that I listed on the talk page of the article, which shouldn't take too long to fix with the assistance of multiple editors. I have also left messages on the talk pages of a few other editors and several related WikiProjects to spread the workload around some. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 08:30, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

another image copyright thing that's not quite right
Hi you seem to know what you're doing with these things than me, and it might only take you a mo, so could you possibly have a think about [17] ? The tag claims it's self-made but it's not, or even if the person drew this particular one, the symbol itself is under copyright, as is explained here [18] "If anyone wants to legally use our version of the “Sigil of Baphomet,” they may ask for permission, and we have generally been quite liberal in licensing people to use this for various projects and goods—though we usually only allow its use on websites when (and where) they are mentioning the Church of Satan. Otherwise, those wishing to use a public domain version of a goat / pentagram / “Leviathan” symbol must go back to the historically published sources, or they may take the challenge to draw a fresh one." It looks a bit like their one- not the one at the top of page which has the letters filled in, but scroll down to the end near by Peter Gilmore signs it and here's a photo of it in black and red on the left. Re:Vicífhoclóir & Commons
Hi Alison, thanks for the invite and offering to change my Commons username. It would be great if my username in commons was just Blathnaid, if that's possible to do. If I have single user login, I have no excuse for not contributing to Vicífhoclóir and Vicipéid :) I'm not sure if the ga-3 on my userpage is accurate anymore though; my mother is fluent and she sent me off to Irish College every summer, but my ability is rapidly declining since the only practise I get with Irish these days is occasionally watching TG4. It would hurt my pride to put ga-2 on my userpage, though! Anyway, that's a long way of saying I'll see what I can do, but I could do more harm than good on a dictionary project :p All the best, Bláthnaid 09:26, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
New user registration problem
Dear Alison,
Ahh! Your user profile is MUCH more user-friendly than other Admins' profiles! As a newbie, I had no idea these things varied. THANK YOU! You have earned my eternal gratitude. And Jimmy Wales just averted another lost user!
So as not to waste your time, let me get to the point. I need an Admin's help to do this.
I need to register under as many Wiki subdomains as possible under the username 'A.k.a.' I've been given this name for the regular Wikipedia site, but I just discovered that there are other subdomains that require registration as well. What a drag.
The reason I need to ask an Admin for help with registration is that there is a user named 'Aka'. I'm being stubborn about my own username because I want to standardize it across as many forums as I can -- so far, many many! Would you mind lending a hand with the process?
You can email me at alsoknownas at live dot com to get in touch. I'd prefer you erase my email address after you respond, so it's not harvested.
The most immediate need I had was to upload my first image to a Wikipedia talk page. That sent me to the Wikimedia Commons site... http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UserLogin
...which is apparently an entirely separate subdomain that doesn't recognize my login at wikipedia.org.
Are there any other related domains where an account ought also to be created?
Thanks a million, Alison.

Kenworth article copyvio notice.
Hey Alison,
I normally don't leave messages on the talk pages of WikiAdmins, but I feel compelled to do so in this case.
On June 17th, I had been left a rather terse (and what I took as rude) message left on my talk page by User:WikiDon in regards to a copyright concern on the Kenworth page, in regards to the text featured here at the Pacific History section of a website titled GilligCoaches.NET. The copyright concern notice also went up on the Kenworth page itself that day, and was listed two days later on Wikipedia:Copyright problems under the June 19 heading. To help illustrate the problem, I'm posting the text in full that I posted on WP:CP, and you're invited to read the dialog between me and WikiDon as well, if you wish.
The copyright concerns with the Kenworth article stems from a section that was formerly titled "Kenworth's Involvement in the Transit and School Bus industry." The contents of the entire section were of my own writings, which I had published on the world wide web on my website GilligCoaches.NET. The writings in the Kenworth article were a condensed and derivative version of the text featured on the Pacific History section of my website. Upon completion of the writing of the section in the Kenworth article itself, I then uploaded and expanded the text for my own website. Immediately afterwards, I placed a marker on the bottom of the page, reading as follows: " I've authored a condensed and derivative form of this text for the Kenworth article on Wikipedia " (with a backlink to the Kenworth article on Wikipedia) as a courtesy, and to avoid this issue in the first place. User:WikiDon, without even giving that notice on the "Pacific History" page a glance, posted a rather disrespectful remark on my Talk Page also without ever investigating my user page itself - which makes a rather blatant and obvious reference to GilligCoaches.NET and what my hobbies are. While I appreciate the fact that someone would look after my own writings and perceive them to be in violation, they in fact were not in violation at anytime. Furthermore, WikiDon failed to investigate the manner properly, instead outright accusing me of copyright infringement without any knowledge and proper investigation of the situation beforehand. For those in doubt, here's the Network Solutions WHOIS lookup on GilligCoaches.NET as proof that GilligCoaches.NET, and the writings in question on the Kenworth article (section now titled "Bus industry") are of my own, and are technically one in the same. With sincere regards, Steven A. Rosenow.
The reason I'm posting this, is that it appears that the issue is being turned away by a blind eye on WP:CP and it's dragging the integrity of the Kenworth article (which I have been working on rewriting to bring into compliance with WP:MOS) down the drain. Had WikiDon properly investigated all avenues before going on the attack if you will, this wouldn't have developed into the major "shitstorm" that it has grown into (excuse the language). I'm not sure what to do at this point, so I thought I'd try taking the step a bit further. Feel free to contact me on the issue, and I would like to see this resolved.
Sincerely, Srosenow 98 (talk) 10:50, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hey, just following up with you on the KW article copyvio notice discussion I posted here. I was wondering if you had a chance to take a look at it. Nobody seems to be giving it any attention over at WP:COPYVIO, despite me making a case for why it should never have went up in the first place on both the June 19 entry for it there and the Kenworth article's talk page.
- Thanks in advance. Srosenow 98 (talk) 17:03, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Charades and a bal masqué
Much as I enjoy playing games, I prefer to do it during the carnival season. How much longer is this [20] masquerade to be allowed to continue? Is someone in authority planning to sort it, or are they all hoping my patience will expire and I will sort it? I think it's about time this went public, don't you? Giano (talk) 10:30, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- The imposter account referred to above and User:Counter-revolutionary edit from the same ISP, and on the date in question edited from similar but not identical IP addresses. They also share another feature that is unusual among users of that ISP. Alison pointed out in an email to me that Counter-revolutionary had recently edited an article related to the imposter user name; the article seems to be Christopher 'Crip' McWilliams although I do not understand the connection myself, being thoroughly (for better or worse) American (my last Irish ancestor emigrated in 1842). Without stronger technical evidence, I am not sure that direct action can be taken against Counter-revolutionary. You could try reporting the matter to WP:AE and see if one of the patrolling admins would consider a sanction under the Troubles Arbcom remedy. I do think the time is long past to be coy about such matters, and I disagree with Alison's decision to pursue the matter as obliquely as she did (sorry, Allie). Thatcher 15:45, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- What a wise ancestor you had Thatcher, just think, you could have been perched up on a roof today, in all weathers, thatching for ungrateful and revolting peasants. However, I digress, I think we all know what is going on here; I certainly do. I hate to say it - but do we need to actually say it aloud? - Some things are best left unsaid. Can't these accounts not be just vaporised and blocked for the benefit of all, rather like a Wiki MI5. The choice is the Arbcom's: we can be public or we can be discrete. The final result will be the same. What is best for Wikipedia? Giano (talk) 18:11, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- As another American just passing by, I find the apparently Irish/British/European phrase "I don't know what you are on about" quite strange. I've seen it several times by editors from "across the pond". Can someone explain it to me? Is it short for "I don't know what you are going on about"? Sorry for butting in on your page Alison. Tex (talk) 15:55, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

- And Thatcher is absolutely right also, and on a number of levels. I should not have been coy and oblique when I made that comment on C-R's talk page. Rather, I should have stated the facts clearly, in deference to both CR and the community. It was unhelpful and I apologize.
- To the case in hand, both CR and the impostor-troll share a reasonably narrow range of highly dynamic IP addresses. Prior to the edits by the troll having been deleted & oversighted, this tool neatly showed the related editing times and lack of overlap. What Thatcher also points to (the "unique feature") is also quite correct. As a checkuser case, while not "confirmed", is highly Likely that they are one and the same. However, in this case, it would be inappropriate for me to apply any sanction and I would rather an uninvolved admin made a decision here - Alison ❤ 18:11, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

- Giano, it would be bad for me, as checkuser, to play judge, jury and executioner here and none of us need another interminable Lauder case. I will have to defer to another another admin on this one - Alison ❤ 18:17, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- Nothing interminable about my solution, short sharp and to the point. Giano (talk) 18:22, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

- (ec) If, which I'm uncertain of, I am following the bouncing ball, the only evidence remaining visible to the average admin are 4 edits here and here. Given those 4 edits, Alison is right that she shouldn't act. My suggestion would be that Giano should post a RFCU case (note that many/some relevant edits were oversighted, if you are certain of this), referencing this discussion, and let Thatcher and/or another checkuser post his findings there, then an uninvolved admin with experience in RFCU cases can resolve appropriately. (If Thatcher is right about which article it is, the relevant edits were apparently oversighted without a deletion log entry, so I'm also experiencing uncertainty there.) An alternative approach would be to post a WP:AE report with the same data and links. GRBerry 18:23, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- Personally, I don't think it's necessary to file a full-on RFCU case, as we've had two checkuser's opinions here already. Secondly, umm, I think it's moot now, as WJBscribe seems to have indefinitely blocked CR - Alison ❤ 18:28, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Very well, I'll be the uninvolved admin, having been consulted about the account (now Renamed user 20 (talk · contribs)) yesterday. Giving Alison and Thatcher's checkuser findings above, combined with the coincidence of edit times and interest, I am satisfied that this account was operated by the same person as Counter-revolutionary. Given this user's previous harassment and sock use, I think the use of the name of a living person to make threats crosses the point of no return. I have blocked Counter-revolutionary (talk · contribs) indefinitely. WjBscribe 18:30, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for handling this, Will. Much appreciated - Alison ❤ 18:36, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- Bravo! Before I recover from my brusing from headbanging, shall we turn out attention to the "others?" No, Mr Berry, I am certainly not going to instigate anything like an RFC, so I can be acused of drama. It is common knowledge, to Arbs and Admins, what is going on here, so I suggest they get on with it. Giano (talk) 18:39, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- Giano, I'm an admin, and no, this is not common knowledge for me! So don't assume that it is common knowledge for everybody. Most Wikipedians operate in narrow little ranges 90% or more of the time, and generally really don't know what is going on outside their regular range. Don't assume that others know what you know; it is often going to be a false assumption. GRBerry 18:44, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- OK, but many do know, and at least everyone seems finally to be heading in the correct direction at the moment. Giano (talk) 18:46, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know what you are talking about either (well, I might have an idea of one particular case), but if you point me in the right direction, either on-wiki or by email, I will do my best to look into it. Thatcher 18:55, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- I don't have a clue what he is on about either, though I am apparently a integral part of it according to Giano. If there is some grand conspiracy, please enlighten us, because at the moment you (and some unnamed admins) are the only ones aware of it. Rockpocket 20:51, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Doireann
I think I've finally reached the end of the road as far as her article goes, and I am more than happy to proclaim it finished. Whenever you have a free few moments, you can start translating Doireann Ni Bhriain to Irish. :) Mike H. Fierce! 22:29, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

- I'm not ignoring you, Mike :( I'm just crazy-busy right now and I'm just popping in here whenever I get a chance. I will work on the DNíB article in the morning!! - Alison ❤ 06:51, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- Leaving you another note; saw you were on ga and wondered when you would have time to do the translation. Mike H. Fierce! 05:02, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
