Extended confirmed protection
Hello, AlexiusHoratius. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins
Hello,
Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers
Hi AlexiusHoratius.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:46, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!
Hello, AlexiusHoratius. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Eurasia?
Eurasia IS NOT a continent. The FIVE continent model is just as the five Olympic rings describe: America, Asia, Africa, Europe and Oceania! The user editing is the one vandalising the site, not me! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Capleri (talk • contribs) 00:55, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
- Please use the article's talk page to discuss the changes you would like to make with other editors. AlexiusHoratius 01:11, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
Sorry to post here again, but these people are simple wrong, Eurasia IS NOT a continent under the 5 continent model, yet they keep reposting this. To top it off they say I am the vandal! They are too ignorant to know otherwise. You need to address this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Capleri (talk • contribs) 06:01, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
PS Another poster is also saying the same thing as I am, which is correct in this case, yet these people keep reposting the same error again and again, yet I am the one being threatened when it is them that are wrong here. They (Chipmunkdavis, BilCat) won't respond on the talk page of the page in question either.
- Keep discussing it on the talk page, and use reliable sources to back up what you're saying. Once you all arrive at a consensus about what belongs in the article, that change can be made in the article. But the talk page should be used first. AlexiusHoratius 14:18, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
Continent
Good day, you semi-protected Continent from a disruptive IP. Now, the same edits are being made by User:Capleri. A brief discussion on the IPs edits is on the article's talk page, but so far neither the IP or username have commented. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 14:29, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
Sorry I missed the discussion above. Yet the edit warring has continued since he posted. Perhaps full protection is best at this point. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 14:32, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
- I am posting the correct information, it is this individual who needs to be blocked. Eurasia IS NOT a continent under the five continent model! Ref. 17, 18 and 21 state so even on the very page. They just want the table to look symetric it appears. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Capleri (talk • contribs) 14:35, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
- There's already a discussion at Talk:Continent#189.216.163.55. Please join the discussion there, and please be civil. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 14:46, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
Wikipedia confirmed user issue
Greetings Alexius,
Before i explain the purpose of this message, let me clarify a few things real quick. I am an active user on a website for an emulator (In development) of Pirates of the Caribbean Online which was created and shut down by Disney called The Legend of Pirates Online (TLOPO for short).
I have noticed a user by the name of "Pearson Wright" who is the head of a different project called Pirates Online Retribution that has been editing the Potco article to include only his project and even going so far as to remove all mention of the project i am with.
Normally this wouldn't be much of a concern, however the aforementioned user while editing the Potco article has included in his description of the changes he has made aggressive and accusatory statements directed at a certain user who was accused by Pearson of vandalism as well as the following i've explained throughout this message.
I.E Accusations that the individual is Mike Wass (A member of the TLOPO team) and telling him to stop vandalizing, that his project has the right to be represented as much as that of TLOPO and that the accused does not own said page.
I have included the proof of his changes relevant to this below:
1. Pearson Wright removed/replaced all info of TLOPO with that of his own project: [1]
^^ The above is relevant to his claim of "Our emulator has every right to be just as represented as yours." even though he removed all mention of TLOPO from the aforementioned article.
2. Pearson Wright as mentioned above makes the following claim in his description of the change he made "(Revert vandalism by Mike Wass. You do not own this page. Our emulator has every right to be just as represented as yours. Quit vandalizing this page.)". Link: [2]
The problem i'm seeing here is that Pearson Wright has shown himself to be aggressive and accusatory to users (Despite this not being in the spirit of Wikipedia) as well as being hypocritical in regards to the aforementioned claim that his project has the right to be represented as much as TLOPO yet proceeded to (Again) remove all mention of TLOPO from the Potco article.
In my opinion, this user is not fit to be on Wikipedia nor does he give a good impression. The decision of course is not mine to make (This being my opinion and nothing more).
Apologies for the long read and thank you, AryaTargaryen (talk) 00:58, 7 December 2016 (UTC)AryaTargaryen
P.S. I've re-added the original info (And removed some of the content from the prior users edit that didn't seem to fall under the neutrality clause) that was removed in a prior edit regarding the other project i am with that is attempting to recreate Potco. The other project (Pirates Online Retribution) has been left untouched on the article.
Please let me know on my talk page if this is a problem, it was not my intent to cause trouble.
Merry, merry!

Johnny Depp
Hello,
I'd like to notify you that there are biased texts in Johnny Depp's biography, including quotes from personal opinions that could be damaging to the actor's image.
I would like to ask that the corrections be made and replaced by snippets of articles that are reliable and totally neutral, since both wikipedia and articles are only informative
And some of the texts are assuming roles of a judge.
I'll show you some examples
It is about family
"She stated that the latest incident of violence had taken place on May 21, and provided statements by two witnesses—her and Depp's mutual friend iO Tillett Wright and neighbor Raquel Pennington—and photographs of her battered face as evidence.[90][94][95] Wright had called the LAPD during the incident,[96] but Heard, wishing to protect Depp, stated to them that it was a "verbal dispute only", and the officers saw "no evidence of a crime at that time".
-Raquel, isn't only a neighbor, she is Amber's friend, so this excerpt can not be used because it is biased, as it does suggest that she is a neutral witness, so it must be added that Raquel is a neighbor and friend of Amber
-"Wishing to protect Depp", is also not an excerpt from a text that can't be considered neutral, since there is the personal expression of who wrote the article
"In response, Depp's lawyers said that Heard was "attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse".[93][98] On May 31, Heard gave a statement to the LAPD on the incident on May 21; her lawyers stated that she had initially been reluctant to involve law enforcement in the case in order to "protect her privacy and Johnny's career", but was forced to do so "to set the record straight as to the true facts, as she cannot continue to leave herself open to the vicious false and malicious allegations [by Depp's team] that have infected the media".[99]"
-"By Depp's team" This is another passage that has the personal opinion as if it were a verified truth, and yet it is not.
and a weird paragraph about Legal problems ?
"In March 2016, Depp cut ties with his management company The Management Group and accused them of improperly managing his money. The Management Group later sued Depp for unpaid fees and countersued him for damages.[119] The lawsuit revealed that Depp was responsible for his own fiscal mismanagement, in opposition to his claim."
The lawsuits are still taking place, there is still no decision of the judges, so nothing has been revealed
I want to ask for guidance to correct these biased passages, since I understood that wikipedia members have concern about how to report in a true, neutral, and reliable manner
thanks

- Sorry for the late response. I went to the article to remove the last statement that you had listed here, but I see you've already done that. As to the others- they may be better dealt with on the talk page first. I agree that many could at least be re-worded if not removed, such as the excessive quoting of Heard's lawyers in the '...malicious allegations' statement, but it might be better to bring these up for discussion on the talk page first, if you haven't already. Semi protection on the article Self-coup
Upon having discussions on the talk page of the article, I have decided to take the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's name out of the list and take the semi-protection down. I wanted to inform you about this since the protection was placed there by you. Please let me know if that is fine for you. Thanks rinduzahid(talk) 14:42, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
- Not a problem. AlexiusHoratius 15:03, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
None of the references there claim or allege the possibility of self-coup. They are just the repercussions of strict ruling after the coup. So, I removed Tayyip Erdoğan from the list. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elasolova (talk • contribs) 18:09, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
Ok. I have came across an Independent.co.uk article that alleges a self-coup possibility. But, personally I think there should be a separate list for alleged self-coups. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elasolova (talk • contribs) 19:11, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

- I shortened the protection period to 3 hours from a week. When I checked it only had 16 watchers and was getting edited once a minute or so, which isn't great for a blp. But I agree that the good ones shouldn't get cut out. AlexiusHoratius 14:46, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

Question
Hi, could you check why, despite auto-confirmed-only permission, Murder of Tupac Shakur is still vandalised by seemingly new account Yall in the south (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)? Thanks. Brandmeistertalk 15:13, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
- The article has pending changes protection, which is different than semiprotection. With semiprotection the article couldn't be edited at all by new users or IPs, but with pending changes the edits can be made (and show up in the article's history) but they won't actually be visible in the article until their edit is reviewed by another user. With obvious vandalism, the edit will be reverted without ever showing up in the article the general public reads. AlexiusHoratius 15:29, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

Turner Broadcasting System Europe
Hi AlexHoratius. You semi-protected Turner Broadcasting System Europe and some related articles a few days ago because of some disruptive editing by some IP hopper inappropriately adding non-free files to the articles. The protection ran out and the IP is back as before. As I posted in my WP:RPP request, this is likely the same person hopping from IP to IP, so I'm not sure if blocking will stop the disruption since a new account is used each time. Leaving user talk page posts has also had no effect. Any suggestions on how to proceed from here? -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:21, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- I semiprotected the article for a month. If he returns after this, we could try a longer period of pending changes (I didn't start with this as the article doesn't have too many watchers/reviewers.) I also went ahead and semiprotected both UK and Mideast for two weeks. AlexiusHoratius 23:51, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking a look. Perhaps protecting the articles for a longer period of time who discourage the IP from continuing as before. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:15, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
- Hi again AlexiusHoratius. The page protection you added expired, and the IP(s) are back as before reinserting non-free content inappropriately. Any suggestions on how to proceed for here on? -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:43, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

Vandalism / personal attacks
User:NapoleonBlownapart is adding unsupported material to Mammoth Lakes, California and Ipswich, South Dakota. You reverted the last edit (thanks!). In addition, he made a personal attack on my user talk page (see diff).
I reverted once on Mammoth Lakes, California, but would strongly prefer to revert only once per day. Thought I would inform you of the situation. Thanks for any help. —hike395 (talk) 01:28, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
- I reverted the addition to the California article as well. I saw you already gave them a couple warnings so if they continue we can take it from there. AlexiusHoratius 01:37, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

Page protection question
Hi AlexiusHoratius. About a month ago you protected TCM Nordic and some other related articles for three days per Special:diff/AlexiusHoratius/805320323. The IP hopper is back re-adding the article, so I am wondering if re-protecting the page can be requested or if there's another possible solution. Thanks for your time. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:49, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
- I'm going to wait for now on protecting it. It has only been edited a few times in the last month and I don't know that a long term protection is really needed right now. Just revert it and if it gets worse let me know or put it back on WP:RFPP. AlexiusHoratius 13:42, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
- Understand. Thanks for taking a look. -- Marchjuly (talk) 14:08, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for keeping an eye on Turner Broadcasting System Europe. Would you consider also protecting Turner Classic Movies (UK and Ireland), Turner Classic Movies (Middle East and Africa) and TCM Nordic? Same IP adding non-free images to the infobox. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:22, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for protecting those other articles. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:36, 25 November 2017 (UTC)

New Mexico
Hi sir! I think in this article, some numbers in the New Mexico Racial Breakdown of Population table in 2000 and 2010 are inaccurate, i.e. the sum of the numbers is not 100. I’ll be glad if you check that. Thanks.Taddah (talk) 13:58, 7 December 2017 (UTC)
- Sometimes the numbers don't add up to 100 because of the way the census bureau defines/doesn't define Hispanics - they aren't counted as a race, so many put 'white' or 'other'. Sometimes it's left blank. Sometimes people put more than one, which results in totals above 100. With a state like NM that has a really high hispanic %, the resulting percentages are more skewed than most other states. AlexiusHoratius 19:16, 7 December 2017 (UTC)

You might want to consider increasing the current duration of protection here. The page history has shown that it might be up for vandalism immediately the protection expires. Compliments of the season, if you celebrate. Regards Mahveotm (talk)

Standard YouTube license
Hi there, what are the rules with Wikipedia and youtubes standard YouTube license? Is using a video from YouTube as a ref a Wikipedia:Copyright violations if it has this kind of licensing? --2001:8003:54DA:E600:E047:90F8:8CB6:ACAD (talk) 14:11, 20 January 2018 (UTC)
- The biggest issue you'll probably have is whether or not it constitutes a reliable source. (In some cases YouTube videos are fine but in many cases they aren't.) You probably don't have to worry as much about it being a copyright violation if it's only being used for a citation. AlexiusHoratius 23:11, 20 January 2018 (UTC)
Hasanaginica and nationalists from former Yugoslavia
Dear administrator, there are some nationalists from former Yugoslav countries who denies the heritage of minorities. The page Hasanaginica was blocked as a result of disruptive edits of Staszek editor associated with another slavic editor. He erased in the first line the Vlach word. The page is about the ballad descovered by Fortis. Fortis is a primary source and he claimed the Vlachs/Morlacs were the authors of Hasanaginica. Supplementary you may see in the article a picture of a page from Hasanaginica with this mark: De Morlacchi. It is an obvious nationalist atack against Vlach minority. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.112.45.135 (talk) 10:27, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
- This seems like a content dispute and there isn't much I'd be able to do in this case. These issues are best discussed with other editors on the article's talk page. AlexiusHoratius 22:01, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
- Dear editor, this is a nationalist approach of Zoupan and Staszek who deny the heritage of Vlach minority. It is a shame that such extremist approaches are permitted in Wikipedia. They act with original research (OR) against all evidences and references. We need to accept only references. Please apply the rules against extremism and against original research. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.112.45.135 (talk) 05:59, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
Today, we already know that the cultural heritage of national, ethnic and religious minorities as well as stateless communities in the 20th century in Europe was doomed in many countries to assimilation, persecution and even oblivion. Such minorities are often faced with the situation in which their heritage is rapidly vanishing, which is caused by a lack of general care. The heritage of minorities, including the one of the Vlachs,is not infrequently passed over in silence in official national discourse.
These issues have to be known by all editors from Wikipedia because the extremism has to be eliminated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.112.45.135 (talk) 06:17, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
Please see recent vandalic edits of Zoupan in the Vlachs page. He is not capable to understand that there are over 15 references about Vlach heritage. 79.112.45.135 (talk) 08:05, 15 March 2018 (UTC)

Page Protection
Hi AlexiusHoratius,
A few users keep vandalizing the page for Christendom College, adding in a section referring to sexual assault allegations that have been heavily disputed. I’m an alumnus and noticed this and tried to edit the page back to normal, but the page just got protected and I can’t fix it again. It says you protected it. Can you help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by FlyPeterPan87 (talk • contribs) 23:21, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not saying that I necessarily agree with the section as it stands (I don't know anything about the issue - just responding to a request that the page be protected) but it does have sources. The article's talk page would be the best place to discuss the issue with other editors and come to a consensus as to what belongs in the article. AlexiusHoratius 23:26, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
Ok, thanks! FlyPeterPan87 (talk) 23:28, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
AlexiusHoratius, people can’t include blogs as sources, right? The section is based off a blog post, and that’s the first source referenced. FlyPeterPan87 (talk) 23:36, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
- They generally aren't the best sources but it usually depends on the circumstances. If the blog were the only source I'd favor removing the material but there are other sources as well and what looks like the school's own statement on the issue. AlexiusHoratius 23:52, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
Some trivia
Hi, just wanted to drop a line and tell you that you've made it into the news by protecting the article about Delyan Peevski. Help needed - March 2018
Hi, could you arrange for Declan Donnelly to be put under semi-protection, the same as you did for Anthony McPartlin? Tower of Babel edits
I am writing in regard to the frequent edits made and unmade on the Tower of Babel article. I am the user who made the last edit (75.148.131.246), which was reverted by Ian.thomson the day after. My question is who decides what revisions stay and what does not? Did anybody bother to read my edit comment? There IS a bias in this article, which I would think runs counter to what Wikipedia stands for.
I could go into more detail, but I think this should suffice for now.

- The content of an article is decided by editors on the talk page after discussing the issue and coming to a WP:Consensus about it. (Read the link for more on the process.) The article's talk page is the best place to discuss the issue with other editors. AlexiusHoratius 18:55, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
