Please help?

[edit]

Hello. I was doing some editing on the "List of premature professional wrestling deaths" page & am having some trouble. Initially, I added some content, then discovered that what I added was over-written onto some existing content. I tried adding what was deleted back in, only to find more content was unwittingly deleted. I know you are an experienced editor, so I wanted to see if you could possibly help, please? I didn't think re-adding the first part of (accidentally) deleted content was going to lead to more content being accidentally deleted. I don't wanna do anymore because I feel like any further actions on my part will make it worse. Are you able to help @ all? Please get back to me if possible. Thanks. Time Warp at Canada's Wonderland

[edit]

I was so caught up in the hype that I forgot to realize that it is a common tweet. I should have known better as a veteran Wikipedian.

Note that Orion123478 initially added it and I legitimized it, given that Time Warp's removal is now official. Please watch over any edit made by Orion123478 and warn them as necessary as the user often relies on unreliable sources. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 14:30, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The email in the tweet is from wonderland and RCDB marked time warp removed Orion123478 (talk) 15:19, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Orion123478, please read WP:REPUTABLE, WP:SOURCEDEF, WP:PUBLISHED and WP:CONTEXTMATTERS. These are four sections back to back on the same guideline page. The most relevant here is WP:SOURCEDEF which explains:
When editors talk about sources that are being cited on Wikipedia, they might be referring to any one of these three concepts:
  • The piece of work itself (the article, book)
  • The creator of the work (the writer, journalist)
  • The publisher of the work (for example, Random House or Cambridge University Press)
Any of the three can affect reliability.
So even if it can be proven that the "piece of work itself", which in this case is the email response, is in fact real, the author of the tweet sharing the email would still have to be a reputable person with well-known experience in the field. The tweet's author does not qualify and fails that criteria, so this cannot be accepted as a reliable source on Wikipedia. Also read WP:USERG to learn why we typically don't cite "user-generated content", especially from social media networks.
Lastly, there's the email itself. That's a screenshot that has been shared, but as you probably know, text in plain documents like that can be manipulated and faked. So the other dagger that kills this source is the fact that there is no way to really confirm that the email is real. --GoneIn60 (talk) 16:43, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

there’s your source Orion123478 (talk) 20:09, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
https://rcdb.com/2516.htm
and here’s rcdb listing it as removed Orion123478 (talk) 20:12, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Also it was removed from the PARKS WEBSITE and APP Orion123478 (talk) 20:14, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Orion123478 – I see you are trying to locate better sources, and that's a good thing. However, CPFoodBlog (recently rebranded as FUNFoodBlog) is a personal blog website and would fall under the WP:USERG designation on Wikipedia. If you still haven't read that guideline, I ask again that you do. We need rock-solid, reliable sources. That one does not qualify, unfortunately.
RCDB, on the other hand, is generally a reliable source, but it is primarily run by one individual. While we do cite it for many statistics, it is not strong enough to stand on its own for things like this. We prefer a stronger secondary source, or wait until park visitors can see with their own eyes that the ride is, in fact, gone. We should not be in a hurry to update the status on Wikipedia.
And here's the most important thing...
Once you do locate an acceptable source, YOU are expected to include it in the article. Add information about the removal and cite the source. It is not other editors' responsibility to do this for you. Again, if you need help, the Teahouse is an excellent resource. --GoneIn60 (talk) 21:31, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I emailed the park and this is the response I got. “Thank you for contacting Canadas Wonderland.
We can confirm that the Time Warp roller coaster at Canada's Wonderland is being retired and will be removed before the park opens in May.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Warmest regards,
Maria

Email the park yourself and see that it’s being removed!! Orion123478 (talk) 21:06, 12 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry Orion123478, but I still don't think you fully understand the concept of original research. We are not permitted to do that kind of work for Wikipedia. I don't doubt that the information may be true, but we have to wait for it to be published in a reliable source. --GoneIn60 (talk) 14:30, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Fantastic, now re-read my previous comment:

I used that and added citations!! Orion123478 (talk) 23:30, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Just noticed. Great work. That is the process we must use every time. Sometimes we get lucky and those sources are immediately available. Other times, we have to move at a snail's pace and wait for them. --GoneIn60 (talk) 23:34, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have mentioned Time Warp's closure in Canada's Wonderland itself with the ref provided by Orion123478. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 00:48, 14 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
