WINC/Winchester, VA
Hey APK, how have you been? Hope you are doing well during this crazy time. :) Not sure if you are still snapping pictures and what not, but I was hoping you could help me take one more set (at least a couple, not a set) of pictures of the WINC studios in Winchester before they are sold off. Unfortunately, the owners are about to sell off the building, which means this is the last chance to get the pictures (as this could happen at any time, just learned this today). So, I'm hoping you could help. Just a heads up, we are having the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival (no parades) over the weekend, so if you think about doing this weekend, just be weary of traffic and annoying people in Downtown Winchester. :D
WINC's address is still 520 North Pleasant Valley Road in Winchester if you are GPS'ing it. Much appreciated. :D Since you are taking a special trip, let me know if you need something for gas (ie: Venmo, PayPal, whatever). - Neutralhomer • Talk • 01:21 on May 1, 2021 (UTC)
- @Neutralhomer: Howdy, I'm back to my semi-retired status on here. Maybe I'll start up again in a few months which means more photos as well. Regarding WINC, I took this photo in 2015. Will that work? APK whisper in my ear 03:48, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
- Ah, this I did not know. :) That's actually the one we use on the WINC (AM) article. :) I was hoping to get something a tad bit more up-to-date (and a little more professional looking) but it's OK. :) I can always run Downtown Winchester and snap some shots with my cellphone. They won't be the best, but they will be better than nothing (that's where the "professional looking" comes in).
- Hope you are doing well. :) Take Care, Neutralhomer • Talk • 03:54 on May 3, 2021 (UTC)
- I'll try to get some additional photos this week. APK whisper in my ear 06:12, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

Every time I’ve had free time in the past week to take a photo it’s been raining or very cloudy. Here you go. This was the only angle I could get this morning since the sun is facing me right now. I’m doing this on my phone so hopefully this message format isn’t weird. APK whisper in my ear 12:18, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
Ok finally a perfect afternoon for photos. 1, 2, 3 APK whisper in my ear
- @APK: You freakin' rock, dude! Yeah, the weather here has been stupid! I love this one the best, since it had the tower in the picture and this one since it actually shows the door to the main studios and the "520" above the building. Amazing work! Thank you! :D

- I lived in DC until 2013 when we moved out here. I get back to the city when I can. BTW, WINC was very kind to me through the years. We've won concert tickets to Ariana Grande, Matchbox 20, Counting Crows, and at least 25 gift cards to various restaurants and stores. Sad to see what's happened to it. - Ohh, gotcha! I worked on the article in 2014 and bought it to GA and FA, so that makes sense. :) I'm in Stephens City, so I'm not too far away. :) Yeah, it's sad. We (my parents and I) got here in 1992 when Dad got out of the Navy (I was just 11 at the time) and WINC-FM was the massive powerhouse that it was for years. Full staff (5a to 12a and weekends), a full news department, the Lewis family had it stacked. Things went slowly downhill when Centennial came around. They had a good thing with Active Rock on 104.9/105.5 and "The Bone", but they weren't smart enough to keep it. They were actually beating 99.3. That Classic Country format they hung onto for a couple years on 104.9 and later 105.5 had a 1.0 in the ratings. It was dead in the water and had ZERO advertisers. It never played any commercials. It was no wonder they had to sell WINC-FM. :( I wish I had some money to LMA either 104.9 or 105.5 from Metro Radio. I could make soooo much money, even with piddly 105.5's signal. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 21:56 on May 12, 2021 (UTC)

Washington, Virginia (again)
Dear APK, You have helped me in the recent past, and I am hoping that you can help me once again. If you recall, on 14 October 2020 you reinstated the text that I had created for the wikipedia page on the town of Washington, Virginia. Now another editor (Doncram) is demanding that the page I wrote on the Washington, Virginia, Historic District be eliminated and the text merged into the Washington, Virginia page. His justification for this is that the historic district encompasses the whole town. I and others have argued against this, but our arguments have had no effect on Doncram. I feel like I am at the mercy of an editor yet again. I believe that the two pages deal with very separate subjects, i.e., one with a description of the town and the other with the town as a National Register Historic District. Could you possibly find the time to read our arguments and the comments of Doncram; these can be found on the Washington, Virginia wikipedia page. If you believe that Doncram is correct, I will regrettably withdraw my objections to the merger, but I hope you can see some virtue in retaining two separate wikipedia pages. Many thanks to you.Harriswoodville (talk) 20:34, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

515 North Washington Street Images
Hi,
You've uploaded File:515 N Washington Street.jpg on the English Wikipedia as non-free content, but you also previously uploaded the image to Commons as c:File:Express Spark Plug Company Alexandria.jpg as public domain. Obviously it can't be both. As non-free content used only for identification, WP:NFCC#1 isn't met because you also uploaded c:File:515 North Washington Street.jpg which you put under a free license. Do you have original publication or copyright registration information that establishes the PD status? The only publication information provided is the 2010 Alexandria Times newspaper article. As an aside, I really like the picture you took of the building. It mirrors the composition of the old photo. Was that deliberate? Whpq (talk) 15:04, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Whpq: I thought it was public domain since, according to the 2010 article, the photo was taken around 1918, but in the Good Article review the editor said there's a difference between when it was taken and when it was published. I learn something new every day. So should I tag the Commons for speedy deletion? Thanks for the compliment. That building wasn't even on my list of things to photograph. I just happened to take that one photo which happened to match the older pic. APK whisper in my ear 01:56, 9 September 2022 (UTC)
- If you didn't plan the picture, then it is serendipitous coincidence! I just read through the GA thread, and agree that publication date is what matters. If you can find evidence of publication before 1927, then the image would be public domain. Otherwise, yes, you should tag it for speedy deletion on Commons. I sort of disagree with the GA reviewer on the non-free image. It's not okay as it stands. The non-free rationale used looks like boilerplate text. The stated purpose of visual identification fails WP:NFCC#1. For the purposes of visual identification, the photo you took and released under a free license serves as visual identification so a non-free image for that purpose cannot be used. Looking at the article, the image is actually being used to support material about the look of the building at the time it was used by the Express Spark Plug Company. You need revise the purpose in the non-free use rationale to state that. And on replaceability, you should state why a free image of the building cannot be used for the stated purpose. Given that the building was used by the Express Sparkplug company in 1918, it is quite reasonable that there may be other images that are the public domain. You will need to explain what searches you've done to find a free image. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 02:51, 9 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Whpq: I searched through newspaper archives from that time period and didn't find the photo. I'll go ahead and do the necessary tagging. APK whisper in my ear 03:17, 12 September 2022 (UTC)

Faith Ringgold
Hi, just flagging that I removed the fair use image you added to the Faith Ringgold article. A fair use image of that quilt painting already exists on English Wikipedia, currently in use at the article for The American Collection. 19h00s (talk) 11:39, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Also, love that other people are invested in sharing visual representations of art, even if we have to reduce everything in size per Wikipedia policy. But I would gently suggest that when you upload images, you add visual descriptions to the image descriptions. One of the main uses of these images, from my perspective, is to give readers a visual reference to aid in their understanding of the artist or artist's style. But blind and low-vision readers cannot experience the images without a description to aid their screen-reader. Even a really simple stylistic description is more useful than just a title and author, as it gives blind readers more of a chance to understand the information provided. Again, love that you're contributing images to Wikipedia, always grateful to see others doing that work. Thank you! 19h00s (talk) 11:50, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
The file File:American Collection -4- Jo Baker's Bananas.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Duplicate image - fair use image of this painting already exists on English Wikipedia, for use in the American Collection article: File:Jo Baker's Bananas, 1997, Ringgold at NMWA 2023.jpeg
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 19h00s (talk) 11:43, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Good Article review feedback
Hi APK, thanks for the recent interest in reviewing Good Articles. Your reviews have helpfully pointed out areas articles can expand, which is great attention to GACR3. For those looking at the reviews in the future, it would also be helpful if the reviews clearly stated how the article meets (or does not meet) each GACR, and which sources were spotchecked to evaluate 2c (OR) and 2d (plagiarism). Please feel free to ask if you have any questions. Best, CMD (talk) 02:37, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Chipmunkdavis: Thanks for the compliment and advice. It wasn't until this past week or so that I started reviewing. Do you have a link to one of those GA review templates? I've seen them on my own GAs. APK hi :-) (talk) 03:10, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- There are some templates in Wikipedia:Good article nominations/templates you can use, although it is not needed. The risk of templates is that people can up just giving checkmarks instead of explaining the reasoning behind the assessment.
