Disambiguation link notification for March 22
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Thiomargarita magnifica, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Compound. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:06, 22 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. A page you recently created, Power system operations and control, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for new pages, so it has been moved to Draft:Power system operations and control where you can continue to work on it. Please consider using the Article Wizard or the Articles for Creation procedure. For more information about creating articles, you may want to read "Your first article". You may also want to read our introduction page to learn more about contributing. Thank you. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 14:16, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Mhawk10: Good day! Since this is by far not my first article, your actions left me totally confused. I will happily go through the draft route this time, yet it would be really nice in the future to allow few hours' worth of sleep to an editor after him explicitly placing an {{under construction}} tag onto the article. --Викидим (talk) 20:51, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi! The directions for {{under construction}} note that
if this page has not been edited in several hours, please remove this template
. I moved the page to the draftspace after around 4.5 hours had passed since the last edit. I apologize if the template I used to note the shift came off as condescending; it was not my intent to do so and in hindsight I should have removed that portion of the template after leaving my first message. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 21:02, 23 May 2022 (UTC)- No problem, I will from now on cease placing the tag onto the articles while I take a nap. Do I understand correctly that the only other objection was that the text used a single source? I had multiple other sources lined up from the beginning (the subject is important and has multiple monographs dedicated to it), so this will no longer be an issue in few hours. --Викидим (talk) 21:26, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- If other sources are added, that would resolve my concerns, yes. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 21:43, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- OK, I will expand the text based on other sources (just adding the sources makes little sense) and submit the article for a review. --Викидим (talk) 22:03, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution
Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Catullus 2 into Catullus 3. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 13:51, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- I do not understand your request. The {{copied}} attribution, placed by me, was there all along, of course, check the Talk:Catullus 3. Would you like another copy on Talk:Catullus 2? Викидим (talk) 19:38, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

The article Vanity set (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
There are only 2 relevant articles - a hatnote would be sufficient
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Leschnei (talk) 15:05, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
Isaac Adams Jr. moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, Isaac Adams Jr., is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. An apology
Hi Викидим, my apologies for hastily moving Martingale (clothing) to draftspace. I've since reviewed the relevant policies and see where I went wrong. I apologize if I inconvenienced you in any way. (Also, I've learned a new word. Never knew it was called a martingale!) Wracking 💬 02:37, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
- I see no problem here and truly appreciate you keeping the ultra-short pages out of the article space. There was no inconvenience, and this meaning of "martingale" is little-known indeed. Викидим (talk) 03:05, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
- If you add a bit more prose, it would be a great candidate at Did you know?. The article would only need around 400 more characters. (DYK requires 1500 minimum of "readable prose", and the article meets all other qualifications.) Wracking 💬 03:16, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for the suggestion! I have added the Etymology section, now DYK check shows 1663 characters. Note that, as written, the added text is decidedly PG-13. The source used, while originally published (in French) in a serious scientific journal, is actually R-rated in places. My familiarity with DYK in English Wikipedia is quite limited (tens of my articles got into the DYK equivalent in Russian), so feel free to suggest toning it down further. Викидим (talk) 09:04, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
- Copy editing is my game! (But feel free to undo anything I've changed.) Let me know if you need help with the DYK nomination– not sure how different it is than ruwiki, but I have a whopping one (1) successful DYK at enwiki and would be happy to help.
- Also, I wonder if Martingale breeches should eventually get its own article, as its different than the half-belt on a coat? Or the article could be about the use of "martingale" for garments (as the breeches are already mentioned)? Wracking 💬 20:30, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
- I tried to get enough material on the martingale dress (these are actually sold nowadays) and the pants, but failed. Until the material can be discovered, the breeches (and dresses, if I manage to find anything coherent) will be forced to stay in this article. Викидим (talk) 22:29, 14 May 2023 (UTC)

Autopatrolled granted
Hi Викидим, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.
Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.
Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Aoidh (talk) 15:35, 11 October 2023 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted
Hi Викидим. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:
- Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
- If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
- Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
- Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. –Novem Linguae (talk) 07:51, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
Abbreviations in citations
Sounds like a good idea, if you have time to make it reasonably comprehensive. Obviously n.d.
will be the first and most obvious member. My initial plan was to redirect it to APA style but really couldn't see an obvious landing spot. So your idea would do the job. No one will object if you change the redirect from Wiktionary to your new article.
Maybe not really an abbreviation as such but in an example like
- Doe, John. "Party Party Party!". Good Times. 123 (45).
should we explain why 123 is in bold and 45 is in parentheses? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 00:37, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- Few good sources can for sure be found for the "Abbreviations in citations", this subject is frequently treated independently of a particular citation style. I am not so sure about the bold/parenthesis, as these appear to me as style-specific information that can go into articles like APA style, IMHO. Alas, unlike Ibid., N.d. does not appear to have good sources on its own. Викидим (talk) 08:17, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- Not great but here are two I cited in my first attempt:
- Berkeley College Library (n.d.). "Q. What if I don't have a date for my APA citation?".
- "Missing Reference Information". American Psychological Association. July 2022.
- Enjoy! (as our American friends like to say). --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 10:19, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

I have sent you a note about a page you reviewed
Hello, Викидим. Thank you for your work on Long Creek Falls. Cielquiparle, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:
I wasn't sure why you marked this article as "unreviewed", so please let me know what the question is on the article Talk page.
To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Cielquiparle}}
. Please remember to sign your reply with ~~~~

Cielquiparle (talk) 08:18, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Cielquiparle: Sorry for the inconvenience. I think that we clicked the "reviewed" button simultaneously, and, after some thinking, was trying to undo my action (as I have thought) so someone else can mark the article as reviewed. The notability as-is is borderline, and I put too much effort into the article to be unbiased. The current state (reviewed by you) is perfectly fine. Викидим (talk) 08:32, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- Fair enough, it just seems like the NPP backlog is such that we shouldn't keep marking as "unreviewed" just because the articles aren't perfect. In theory, there are enough re-reviewers monitoring the curation log, such that any hasty or poor decisions do get questioned and the article could still land in AfD if another editor decides further discussion is needed. At least the article has some citations now so thanks for that! Cielquiparle (talk) 08:38, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
While I will agree that the article is garbage per 2024 standards, you shouldn't draftify articles more than 90 days old without a consensus per WP:DRAFTIFY. LilianaUwU (talk / contributions) 05:25, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! Викидим (talk) 05:26, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- It’s not a great article, but it’s presumed to be notable as per WP:GEOLAND. It shouldn’t have been draftified in the first place. B3251 (talk) 17:44, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
Hello Викидим,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Pages Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

New page reviewer granted
Hi Викидим, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the new page reviewer user right to your account. This means you now have access to the page curation tools and can start patrolling pages from the new pages feed. If you asked for this at requests for permissions, please check back there to see if your access is time-limited or if there are other comments.
This is a good time to re-acquaint yourself with the guidance at Wikipedia:New pages patrol. Before you get started, please take the time to:
- Add Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers to your watchlist to follow NPP-related discussions
- If you use Twinkle, configure it to log your CSDs and PRODs
- If you can read any languages other than English, add yourself to the list of reviewers with language proficiencies
You can find a list of other useful links and tools for patrollers at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Resources. If you are ever unsure what to do, ask your fellow patrollers or just leave the page for someone else to review – you're not alone! Hey man im josh (talk) 15:48, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

Self-portraiture
Greetings, dear collaborator,
I see that you are experienced in editing articles. I'm trying to develop an article, but I don't have that much experience. Self-portraiture is a new concept, and therefore a bit more difficult to write about. But, I will try to do the best I can. Hugs Dinho Aarão (talk) 18:27, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
- When dealing with the new concepts, there is a problem of WP:original research (OR): while a very laudable activity (say, science is all about OR), it has no place in encyclopedia. We here merely retell other people's long settled research in our own words. Викидим (talk) 18:35, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
- I understood. But, I don't know what to do, because the first theses on self-representation in art historiography began with Jacob Burckhardt, in the nineteenth century, and later developed by various thinkers, such as Erwin Panofsky... Dinho Aarão (talk) 19:43, 12 May 2024 (UTC)

Regarding your commment "I am always genuinely happy whenever my ignorance spurs some action. I am keeping my !vote since it does not matter in this case if the article will be built from scratch or out of an 8-year-old redirect, as the initial author will be the same, but can change it to wait if this can make life simpler for anyone." I guess that you can compliment yourself and I am sure that you have good intentions, but I will say that it is rare that ignorance of a topic really help to advance a discussion.--Smokefoot (talk) 14:46, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Dear colleague: (1) First of all, it is real pleasure to work with an expert. That said, (2) I personally prefer to work on subjects that I am not deeply familiar with as a matter of principle: this is (for me) a place to have fun, and there is little fun (for me) in writing down what I am an expert in, as it involves searching for WP:RS to reference the facts that I know to be true. Looking back at my contributions so far, I cannot say I am ashamed of them, even if (or especially when?) they are on the truly obscure subjects that no one but me seems to care about (cf. Bishop Street, Novgorod Detinets with its views per month that can be counted on fingers of one hand). (3) In this particular case, I have actually searched for the compound name and formula prior to writing my original comment, and still happen to think that it is fairly obscure (not unimportant!), as most niobium-related things are. Wikipedia is lucky to have editors like you, familiar with these (pretty cool) corners of the human knowledge well. (4) IMHO, the net result of our interaction was very positive for the project, as it has another article on an important subject. (5) I did not mean any offense, so if any of my remarks grated upon you, please accept my apologies. Викидим (talk) 20:44, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

Improve, don't remove.
I imagine at the beginning this editor was not the experienced editor they are today and that even today this editor is not immune from mistake making.
Please re-read the following as this newcomer is not enjoying their time on wikipedia currently. You may well say "toughen up snowflake" but I hope you remember what it was like being a newcomer here. https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Please_do_not_bite_the_newcomers Rockycape (talk) 22:37, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- I did not notice a single ad hominem argument in the discussions you were involved in so far. Stating that one needs better sources is part of daily communications here and cannot be interpreted as some kind of a personal attack. Generally the best answer to such input is actually looking for and providing better sources - reacting to critique of one's texts by fixing them always makes Wikipedia better. In general, if few experienced editors independently say that some X is missing in the text, then most likely it is actually missing, and no amount of discussions will fix this deficit of X. If one feels that their opponents are wrong, the common sense would dictate to bring in more editors, not request to continue the said discussions without bringing in fresh sources, arguments, or participants (see WP:EXHAUST). The process of bringing more eyes to look at the issue should be done through neutral channels (like WP:Projects or WP:Noticeboards), mobilizing one's friends is not a good idea, see WP:Sockpuppetry. Викидим (talk) 23:57, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- For the record I support wikipedia anti-sockpuppetry stance fully and specifically "creating an illusion of support". Rockycape (talk) 00:26, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- I read your profile info some time ago about moving to the wiki.riteme.site space after becoming disillusioned with another language wikipedia due impenetrable blocks of editors forming. That does not sound like fun. Rockycape (talk) 00:30, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- I've added a comment just below the top of the AfD questioning whether the AfD is necessary. The AfD was added very soon after the page was created. In line with https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Please_do_not_bite_the_newcomers there is some flexibility that promotes a better wikipedia for all including newcomers. Rockycape (talk) 00:37, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- As of today the Down-ball AfD and Down-ball article has been deleted without warning. There was no consensus reached and the AfD had recently been re-listed to gain consensus. Back to the drawing board I guess. If I create this page as a draft is that acceptable to Викидим ? Rockycape (talk) 02:01, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- (1) You are incorrect in your description of the AfD outcome, so it might make sense to look again at the WP:AfD to understand what's actually happened. (2) It is also not necessary to seek my approval: articles stand on their own feet, especially in such non-controversial subject area as children's games. (3) At this stage, there is no need to write an article text, as the problem was with the WP:RS (essentially, there were none). So effort might be better spent on a search for good sources. Ideal source would be an article in some research journal dedicated to physical education at school that will describe the game in some detail (say, a page of text) and contain a brief discussion on why this down-ball is not one of the other downballs. Such a text does not always exist - although easy to find if the game is indeed popular, see, for example Nutter, June (2003). "Four Square: An Old Game Played New Ways". Strategies:A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators. 16 (3): 29–32. doi:10.1080/08924562.2003.10591016. ISSN 0892-4562.) - but something similar will need to be found for the article to stand a chance to be recreated. Without such a source, the text will go down the same path. (4) For the avoidance of doubt, I personally did spend some time trying to locate a good source before WP:PRODding (I consider myself somewhat of an meta:inclusionist and actually prefer keeping articles), and found none. Wishing you better luck, Викидим (talk) 03:13, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- I was expecting you might suggest that creating the wikipedia page as a draft would be the best option. Why do you not support that? Rockycape (talk) 04:59, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- Speaking about the page that I created, I don't think your role in ensuring that Down-ball page was deleted shows your inclusionist tendencies with one exception. You said you went looking for references and for that I commend you. Rockycape (talk) 05:21, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- (1) No, you actually need to find a good source (or sources). Essentially, during the AfD discussion the consensus was that there are too few (my opinion: none) sources that show WP:N. Attempt to recreate article without finding a new good source will quite probably by futile. (2) As for the sections, the layout does not really matter much. No one would suggest deleting article due to poor layout (or keeping an article for its exceptionally good looks). (3) No, you do not have to have the "Sources" section (I like it, but this is my personal taste that not everyone would agree with). Викидим (talk) 05:35, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- My contention is that different wikipedia articles require different rigor in regards to sources. For example, the rigor of sources for a school yard game should be less than for a contentious historical event.Rockycape (talk) 06:00, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
- How would you recommend a newcomer "bring in more editors"? Rockycape (talk) 07:22, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

Once someone has replied to a comment, changing your comment is discouraged (adding a footnote?!), because it makes it appear that the whole comment was there before it was replied to. - Great. I've replied. But I don't see why you think it is okay to make demands of me. Per WP:BRD, you made a bold edit, I reverted it. I don't have to justify my revert to you. I don't have to justify the content I added to you. My reverting is enough to say I oppose the change. To yammer at me and demand I answer questions is just downright obnoxious. Why are you in such a hurry? If and when there is a consensus on the talk page to remove any particular link, then the link will be removed. But the WP:BURDEN is on the editor who want to remove it to establish that there is a consensus to remove it. That's that. I'm trying to work on other projects, and you need to learn to accept "no" as an answer. Skyerise (talk) 23:57, 11 July 2024 (UTC)

lang-de and langx
When Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2024 September 27 § Replace and delete lang-?? templates began, {{langx}}
was used in one article (Adygea). Since then, other editors have been replacing {{lang-de}}
with {{langx}}
. There is nothing to stop you from doing the same in the articles that you monitor...
—Trappist the monk (talk) 13:15, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- I will definitely personally switch to {{langx}}: there is no learning curve, the overall model from the editor's POV is the same, so savings elsewhere might be justified, and the change is so minor that it certainly does not warrant an opposing stance. Future slip-ups are possible (I type many constructs on autopilot), but unlikely. That said, I fully expect User:Somebody "Notme" Else to run a bot replacing the instances of {{lang-xx}} in the text already in articles automatically, as manual bot-like operations are prone to typos. Invitation to participate in a research
Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
