WEE-GEE

Hearbeat

I don not know what I can do, I feel really bullied on this site!!! I feel excluded I have submitted and revised my Heartbeat article 5 times as not to offend anyone removing emotive language, and Ever Heard of Freedom of Speech? I have thoroughly checked everything put forward making sure with at least 10 people first who do have different opinions on this matter if they are happy and unoffended by the article. I am becoming fustrated with it keep being removed adam —Preceding unsigned comment added by Adamthescout (talkcontribs) 17:12, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Undoing revisions to Linux article

I left a clear edit summary as to why I made that edit. It was POV-pushing for Linux, and contained innacurate information. I noticed you have some anti-anonymous propaganda on your user page. Please don't allow your prejudism towards anonymous editors to drive your edit decisions. My edit had thought behind it, and if you had taken a second to read the edit summary, you would've seen that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.105.121.125 (talk) 22:31, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Kondratuk

I'm the user that keeps deleting the play house 22 section of the East Brunswick, NJ article. It was a relevant and necessary edit because I live in East Brunswick and the it's been announced that the project for rebuilding playhouse 22 has been stopped and the playhouse will no longer be an attraction to our town. So please do not block me for making important edits. If you have any questions or comments please email me @ paulkondratuk@hotmail.com. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.46.70.48 (talkcontribs)

Re: edit to SRI International

My edit was constructive. You should put it back, or act on it. Or do something else, if that's the officially preferred way to handle a case like this. Nothing in the rest of the paragraph says anything about the subject of the heading which is correctly defined in the first sentence; it's all about clairvoyance and telepathy, nothing about psychokinesis. I for one prefer having some notation inline with the text I'm reading to point out that there's a problem with it.

As you can see, I'm not in the mood to be diplomatic, but I'm not argumentative or aggressive either. I am getting a little tired of the bureaucracy on Wikipedia, and the really bad grammar on most of the article pages. I guess that's one of the places where a professionally reviewed encyclopedia like Britannica has an advantage. On the upside, I like that if I find something wrong I can correct it. . . or at least tag it. Right?? OK, so I guess I am a little annoyed. I wonder if you're annoyed by some of the human-but-not-productive entanglements around here, too. Like, say, vandalism, which it appears is what you were going after; and that's good. Anyway, I won't be back at SRI International, so do what you think is best. Thanks for reading this. 71.242.43.9 (talk) 01:53, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also the OVA has now been released and in the Opening credits, the title song, sung by "Eiko Shimamiya" is listed as "Super scription of data" NOT "Chikai". I have searched for sources and found none, nor have you added any of the require reliable sources required by Wikipedia policy. Providing these sources will address my concerns. Alansohn (talk) 12:50, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You participated very productively in the AfD for this back in January of 2008; but it's still a puling mass of self-serving publicist's swill, a hagiography of a minor figure. Could you have a hack at the weasel-words and fluff? I've reached my overdose limit for treacle. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:39, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mike asked me also--shall I let you continue first? my own feeling is for a much more drastic cut? DGG (talk) 18:27, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
While I wouldn't go as far as Orangemike, I do agree that this needs a lot of work. DGG, if you're willing to hack away, I will accede to your approach and look over your shoulder to follow along. There is an encyclopedic article hidden inside what seems to be a tremendous amount of puffery. Leaving it unchanged is probably the wrong approach. Alansohn (talk) 18:33, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I recently received a warning for an edit (I didn't do it, of course). I wanted to make sure you know that this IP address is a high school IP and so anyone from students to off-duty teachers could be doing the editing. Capitalization

Hi Alansohn. I noticed you uncapitalized the "The"s from "The Associated Press" and "The New York Herald Tribune" in the article on William Jorden. Wikipedia's own manual of style is silent on this (I think), and this article (which uses a reasonable style guide itself—The New York Time's own) uses capital "The"s mid-sentence for both organizations. What is your reasoning? Bongomatic 00:40, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DYKs

Hi Alansohn

I wasn't going to mention it, but you continue systematically not to cite me as the creator of articles you nominate for DKYs. While I may not expand the articles as much as you do, I spend time writing stubs, adding nicely formatted references, and frequently putting the germ of the sense of the person (when I don't actually write a full article, which I sometimes do). So, since there is a place for the creator, not just the expander, of an article in the DYK template, it would be appreciated if you would put my username there when you nominate an article I created, even if the creation has just slipped out of the five day window (I don't think the window applies to who is listed in the nomination, anyway).

It's the least I can do for another editor. Unfortunately, it's like your house being robbed while your gone and then someone else replacing everything before you get home. The net is that your back where you started, but you still feel violated. Alansohn (talk) 21:59, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
True, but at least this time the vandal only added some irrelevant snippet from an article and wiped everything else. The last time it happened, it was a profanity-laden tirade along with the vandal announcing that he hoped I would die. I think I'll take the former! Under the career section of the Judy Blume page, the controversial issues listed for Deenie/Then Again Maybe I Won't and Forever were listed as "ion" and, well, nothing respectively. Odd vandalism/reversion/vandalism/ editing pattern?

There have been a few odd revisions to Christian Dior today all from one user - I've reversed them all, but looking in the edit history, they were bizarre. The page was vandalised, reverted, then vandalised again and left for someone to deal with. Anyway it seemed like it should be drawn to someone more in charge's attention and I didn't want to assume a role that probably wasn't mine, I'd likely have done the wrong thing anyway. But maybe a friendly heads-up about correct editing from a mod/mod-type on the disruptive editor's Me Page would be in order? Sorry if I've done this incorrectly, wasn't sure who to ask or how to ask. Thanks. Mabalu (talk) 22:11, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

COngradulations "Alansohn," I'm sure the Seventh Day Arrogance church appreciates your protection from anyone knowing what their cult actually preaches....that they are the only ones who are right, that anyone outside of their church (or at least that does anything on Saturday's) has lost their salvation, that by working on Saturdays you are more likely to get sick etc. All the while having members that build 7,000 sq/ft houses for single people and lie to the courts and then turn around and claim “The Bible, and the Bible alone.” But wait, even the Bible can't get it's own stories straight, so why should we expect anything different from a cult that has it's own self-proclaimed profit!?! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.93.10.78 (talk) 13:57, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mark Beers

Hi Alansohn

As you can see from the history of the Mark Beers page and the history of the Mark H. Beers page, you elected to create a new article rather than expand a stub (a stub which, in fact, had a talk page with additional resources and a number of key biographical details to be added to the articles) that was clearly in existence. Even if you believe (in this case, I don't see any support for the idea) that per Wikipedia naming convention, "Mark H. Beers" is the appropriate name, a page move and/or redirect is a better way to address such a view than to duplicate an entry.

Regards, Bongomatic 00:57, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I so rarely create articles with middle initials, but the medical references I had found used it so I createdMark H. Beers never realizing that you had created Mark Beers an hour earlier. Given that you had done all the research on Beers, why didn't you create the full-fledged DYK-eligible article instead of a bare stub?Alansohn (talk) 01:34, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the article was created seven hours earlier, not one. As is frequently the case, I didn't have the time or inclination to create a full article, but was sufficiently interested by the subject to leave (at the same time) a detailed list of key items and several references. Sorry I didn't realize that connecting a common intrest was considered vandalism. Also I didn't see your warnings before I made more edits. Thats the ONLY reason I kept doing it Kingrattus (talk) 16:04, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I should have also listed Crib & Bib (I did on some but forgot on others).. So it should be infant, crib, bib, baby monitor & SIDS. 2 are very important when it comes to SIDS, and well SIDS is important all on its own as so many people aren't even aware of it.. baby sling is an accessory (also a safty thing) & so are bibs. Everything goes with Baby Showers, as the people who are buying something for a gift should be informed on the best/safest product. As a bad buy can cause harm or possibly SIDS (baby crib mattress for example)...

I'm not trying to cause harm. Just trying to make it easier to find things (more so the important one that are related)... When I was finished with Babies (saftey for the most part), I was going to start on Security Cameras as they need updating & then onto pets.

I have a list of all the pages I did change so I could go back & tweek them as needed. If you want me to undo what I did, I will, or tweek them so its a better fit (maybe I should just use infant, baby shower, & SIDS), I can do that too.

I honestly mean no harm

Vandalism?

Really, just because you don't like an edit, you're going to call it vandalism? Because I very much doubt you can prove, from an objective point of view, that the change I made had made that page any worse. Sure, maybe to your point of view, but I don't think it had that much more merit before my edit, than after.

In that case, wouldn't you just call it another pointless edit, to an already pointless page?

Unless you can find some specific guideline that spells out exactly why my change was vandalism, I think you really should stop that kind of thing. It's annoying as hell to have small changes labeled like that. 24.23.32.249 (talk) 22:51, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am amazed by the ability to rationalize away vandalism, but your edit wasn't even a close call. Alansohn (talk) 23:01, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Once again, maybe to your point of view, but are you really so sure that all other points of view would agree? I do not think so. I think my edit had merit, even if you don't see it. 98.238.188.211 (talk) 00:47, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shelby, NC

I'm somewhat baffled that my reference to Kenny Powers, a fictional character from HBO's "Eastbound and Down", was removed from the Shelby, NC homepage. In the program, Powers is, indeed, supposed to be a product and resident of Shelby. What would make such a reference appropriate? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.206.40.48 (talk) 20:22, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Quite frankly sir, it is not my fault that you have such a low grasp on Norse mythology. I myself am from Oslo, Norway, and I'm sure I know more about my homeland than you do. As a mere resident of New Jersey, having reviewed the edit in question, my lack of in-depth knowledge of Norse mythology was no impediment to identifying your edit as vandalism, in all its epicness. Alansohn (talk) 02:47, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Notable alumni" of minor league teams

Hi. Another editor, NatureBoyMD, has come up with what I think is a good and thoughtful template and conditions for a "notable alumni" list for a minor league team that interests him. See [4]. I thought that before he finalizes it, it/he might benefit from you taking a glance at it, and giving him any comments that you may have, since I could see it being used for other minor league teams (its better than anything I've seen), and you are a baseball editor whose views I respect. Feel free to leave your comments on it for him on my home talk page at the above url, as that is where he and I have been discussing it. Thanks.--Epeefleche (talk) 05:34, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DYK help?

Hello! By any chance can you help with making this a DYK? I am not sure how to add these things, but I think this referenced fact would be a good one to include. Best, --A NobodyMy talk 17:55, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This would have been a great candidate for a hook, but the article doesn't meet the qualifications for DYK. Per WP:DYK, an article must be new or have been expanded fivefold within the past five days. As this article is a rather old one, and has not met the expansion requirement, it would not be eligible. I'll be happy to take a look at any new / newly-expanded articles. Alansohn (talk) 18:09, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, what about with this? As you can see I expanded the article considerably? Could we ask, "Did you know that Will Kane's was Gary Cooper's second Academy Award winning role?" or "Did you know that Will Kane is ranked fourteenth on Entertainment Weeklys list of Top 20 Heroes of all time?" Best, --A NobodyMy talk 19:31, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You needn't worry

You needn't worry that I'm seriously plotting to assassinate troublesome categories. For one, I'm not a bureaucrat, nor would I want to be one, so I can't satisfy my own stated pre-requisites for perpetration. Secondly, it would of course be an affront to the principle of "consensus", which (at least until further notice) is foundational. Thirdly, it would surely result in the perpetrators getting banned; nobody wants to be banned. Fourthly, I couldn't handle the media attention. Fifthly, what would my auntie Kay think? Lastly, there are not enough knives in all the world to properly finish the job on the category tree. Good Ol’factory (talk) 21:21, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm worried. I'm very worried. I've already seen the damage that can and will be done to those who dare to disagree, even without all the knives sharpened. Trivializing the Holocaust and child molestation, and now turning the Night of the Long Knives into a sick joke, is a rather disturbing precedent for any administrator, even one whose not a bureaucrat. Alansohn (talk) 21:27, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Relax, Alansohn. It was a passing joke—whether or not it's "sick" or not, I'm unsure—I'll have to get a fecal sample from it to know for sure. :) Just to clarify, I don't have a problem with users disagreeing with me on issues as opinion-dependent as the existence of a particular category. You can choose be "very worried" about all of this if you want—don't misunderstand me as being bossy or ordering you not to—but my suggestion would be that life is too short and for most people there are probably more important and relevant things to spend your "worry time" on. Good Ol’factory (talk) 21:47, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly of concern to you

I was looking at a user's contributions and quite by accident I saw that the user had edited User talk:Alansohn2. Is User:Alansohn2 anything to do with you? If not, we might want to take further steps, as there's a possible risk of impersonation due to the similarity of your names. (The new account edited a page on NJ and also posted a warning on a user talk page, which is why I thought it might be you experimenting with another account, but if not this increases the potential confusion problems of a user using this name.) Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:23, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fort Lee is about 5 miles away, but it's not me. There is a genuine possibility that its could be someone else with the same name, which would be quite a coincidence but far from impossible. I'd keep an eye on the account. It doesn't appear to be someone trying to spoof my edits, but the person could be close enough that some of our edits might overlap. Alansohn (talk) 02:20, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Let me know if you run into any trouble from it and I'll help if I can. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:48, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You are so sneaky, Alansohn, selecting such an unguessable name for your sock. Good sleuthing, Good Olfactory! Keep up the vigilance! Bongomatic 02:56, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Huh, wha? I never thought of this as a "sock" problem at all. Had this been the "real" Alansohn's other account I would have assumed, based on the accounts edits, that he was simply experimenting with using another account. My concern was actually that another user was trying to impersonate our fine editor here. If you're just mocking me for the sake of doing so, Bongo, I'm now going to laugh along .... (ha ha ha cough cough gurgle...) Good Ol’factory (talk) 04:53, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think that Bongo was joking here, as was I. No gurgling necessary. Alansohn (talk) 20:39, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I thought probably that was the case—I tried to laugh along and then it got stuck in my throat ... I can dish it out but I can't take it ... Good Ol’factory (talk) 20:51, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DRV of the Wrangler categories

I'm unhappy with your comment about my "concocting an excuse" to close the Second Wrangler category as "delete" because I put my personal views above process. You may have missed my comment that I closed the 2008 discussion as "keep", so I don't know why you think my views accord with the outcome. Please retract your remarks. I had been trying to word my response and hadn't had a chance to stop by DRV.
