Your edits to Heartbeat (TV series)

Please do not add commentary or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to Heartbeat (TV series). Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. Thank you.

Petition for Heartbeat (TV series)

Including a petition to keep Heartbeat (TV series) on the air is not appropriate inside an article, and has been removed. If you can find sources that describe viewere efforts to retain the program, it would be appropriate to describe these efforts in a far more abridged form, with a reference listing the source. I don not know what I can do, I feel really bullied on this site!!! I feel excluded I have submitted and revised my Heartbeat article 5 times as not to offend anyone removing emotive language, and Ever Heard of Freedom of Speech? I have thoroughly checked everything put forward making sure with at least 10 people first who do have different opinions on this matter if they are happy and unoffended by the article. As a resident of the US, I will admit that I know nothing about Heartbeat (TV series), other than what I've read in the article. I have seen programs here that were targeted for cancellation, and I understand the urge to protest and petition for retention of the show. However, the article needs to be about the show. There is a statement in the article that "The threat of cancellation has prompted protests from Heartbeat fans around the world, as well as from communities in the Yorkshire region where the series is filmed" and this probably captures what should be included here. Wikipedia content policies trump freedom of speech, as much as I would want to say whatever I want. Please understand that this is not the place to direct people to a protest page. Any additional material needs to include reliable and verifiable sources and be written with a neutral point of view. Alansohn (talk) 17:20, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi Adam, as Alansohn says, Wikipedia articles are supposed to be written in a neutral, balanced, objective and encyclopedic tone. Anything that's written in the style of a personal crusade, or which gives undue prominence to a particular point of view, is very likely to be reverted -- "freedom of speech" is irrelevant. Certainly, anything that canvasses for people to sign a petition will be reverted on sight by any experienced editor here. It can be very annoying when one's edits are reverted, but it's nothing personal and no one's intending to bully you, I'm sure. It's just that the stuff you're adding does not conform to Wikipedia policies. I was the one who added the sentence about the cancellation prompting protests that Alansohn mentions, and I did this partly to try to get across in a more encyclopedic style some of the points that I saw you were trying to air. (Notice that I also gave a media source for these claims.) Sorry your first experience here (if it is your first) has been a frustrating one. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window.
